Human Thief- Akari, I always have a character named Akari. No reason beyond liking how it sounds.

Sylvari Guard- Lor Danas, I liked the movie Willow when I was younger and the babies name was Elora Danan…something about the name resonates goodness so I use a variation in MMO’s from time to time.

Mesmer- Sor Danas, as stated above.

Charr 1-Raven Whitepaw….he’s all black w/white paws.
Charr 2-Pax Pain….Dual Wieling pistols like Max Payne.

Norn 1-Ursa is his first name, I know I know…1 thousand of these running about, but hey, it makes sense. Means bear in latin.
Norn 2-Sorenn Loxx is my necro and a name I’ve used in other MMO’s for necrotic/warlock archtypes.

Asuran Ele-Red Blu Blurr….ok, so I watched smallville for 10 seasons. Sue me.

I personally think MF would do better as a non fixed stat upon gear.

Have JC’s create a MF only augment slot that can then be placed on armor, weapons and jewelry. Update with better MF jewels as you find them or buy them from TP.

Hmm, create an augment slot for each crafting ability. You are able to augment with one of each craft. Could be small stat bonuses or abilities.
Or if not one of each for the sake of individuality, everyone gets one choice of augment in addition to the one everyone gets, MF.

lol @ “able to kill some people that are on my own server”.

Wouldn’t we all like to. Maybe down the road somewhere. GvG only though. Meaning, you join a guild marked for open world combat at creation and that guild has beef with another guild and you settle things when you see each other.

Although, with the multiguild thing implemented…that would probably defeat the purpose, it would be like 20 of you nonflagged around 1 opponent then boom, switch to pvp guild (flag yourselves) and explode said opponent. Griefing to some extent I guess.

Even years ago I imagined that was what Anet was going to do with Luxon/Kurzick in an openworld persistant environment, but it didn’t happen.

Could spice things up and bring in a political system too.

2 additional loadouts which can only be swapped to Out of Combat of course. I think it would add some convenience to my gameplay even if it’s only a few seconds. It would prevent me having look in my bag.

Example:
Setting=WvW
Mesmer set 1…….GS
Mesmer set 2…….sword/focus (mainly for temp field speed bonus to travel the map)

What I want equipped tho when I reach My destination is my staff, so before I enter combat I have to open my bag up and equip the staff….it only takes about 2 seconds, but additional swaps would be instant.

I know we had 4 choices in gw1 but they were for different purposes than GW2 which has been balanced for 2wep sets.

Anyhow, not needed as there are bigger things to worry about, just a suggestion.

Armor Preview- No. If I want to preview armor that I may wear I head to the mist and open up my PvP locker, it shows every skin. I have even made the rounds on sites like Dulfy.

As far as gear checking stats, I only care about my own. Success in this game has been fine so far, meaning that I have done pretty much what I’ve wanted to do without even remotely wondering what kind of stats the next man/woman has.

Besides, the only style of gaming in MMO’s where this was a question have been in WoW style themeparks with enrage timers and usually only during raids.

Ranged thowing knives
Blowguns
Scythes, ala dervish gw1
Gauntlets
Martial Bow Staves- for melee
Caster Orbs – different skills than a scepter
Main Hand Shields- can be thrown…winks at Cappy American
2h Axes, 2h maces

I think after that things kinda fall into catergories of skins….
HOWEVER, you could specialize certain skins to have particular skills much like the Elemental weapons and weapons randomly found around the world already currently ingame.

How do you feel about leveling alts

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Akari Storm.6809

Akari Storm.6809

To me, leveling alts in this game isn’t something all that different than alts I leveled in other games. It’s just something I do. I like variety, currently I have one of each class, of which are a few 80’s and one with map completion.

The world is familiar to me as I have atleast 2 of every class in GW1 on 2 accounts
(needed two before they let you buy character slots).

I wouldn’t call myself an altaholic (in denial), but I certainly like to be a jack of all trades and master of one (I gotta master atleast one). Besides, I’m a pvper…what better way to learn your opponent than to roll around in his shoes for a bit to get a feel. I also am a gear collector and I enjoy looking at my toons in certain looks. Something strangely rewarding about that, can’t explain it.

Hmm, from the orders standpoint…none of them trust each other. You being the Commander doesn’t mean the other two orders will pass along ALL of their trade secrets with you. They gave you a few bodies and a few weapons (actual weapons included) to help you defeat a threat because they realized that it was to benefit their own survival.

The Orders recruited you. They have standards. You are now part of a club. They may let you interact with other clubs, but they don’t want you wearing their gear. It’s a respect thing.

Not to nitpick or anything as I feel you wrote the OP to put out a general feeling, but you wrote that many of your players stopped playing PRE 80, one reason being lack of group content.

In all of those other themeparks (I too have played them all and continue to pop my head in from time to time), None of them really have group content until the you hit raids. If your speaking about dungeons, it’s the same thing here. I didn’t even start doing dungeons until I hit 80 here. My 4th character to be 80 just hit 75 and I did his first dungeon last night.

Dungeons I think you start at what, 30? Pretty much the same in most MMO’s that have a LvLing system.

If your talking about WoW or Swtor having non-instanced outside elite or group areas, well….as you level, travel to zones above your level in a group. However, stealth in all three games beats all of this content easily solo anyways.

I’m just wondering what are in those other games that you can do as a group that you can’t do here, besides raiding? (pve wise, pvp is a different animal)

With that said, I do agree group content here needs to rear its head in the form of 10 mans. Even GW1 had 8 as a basic group limit with 12 for Elite missions.

Lack of interesting armor sets below level 40

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Akari Storm.6809

What you really meant to say was, “I didn’t do any research into finding out what I could do armor wise in this game. On the surface there aren’t that many armor sets, but when I look a little deeper, I find that progressing along LIKE IN EVERY FANTASY MMO, (with levels, a class system and armor class system) I get more options on what I can wear.”

I’m not sure what MMO’s you have played in the past, but many kinda don’t have varying armor sets between classes early on.
It’s usually when you are
1. beginning to start dungeons
2. Approaching the last 30% of level cap
That you begin see class appropiate armor.

Hmm, in most games that I’ve played in the past would actually have you looking like a mix matched bag of crayon clowns until you reached higher levels.

GW1, yeah it had class specific armor all the way through…but it wasn’t really an MMO either.

However, if you have done the research and have found that no armor sets really make your class look like how you think a particular class should atleast resemble, then you may be right for now.
My example for that…it took me a long time to figure out how not to make my thief not look like a Jack Sparrow, an Assassins creed knockoff (which 80% of theives I see go for) or some reject extra from the movie Brotherhood of the Wolf.

But you have to remember though, Guardians aren’t WoW Paladins so you’re not going to have alot of holy dress like armor, yet anyways. Think there is like 2 sets of dungeon armor that take on that kind of look.

Use dulfy dot net or even the pvp locker in the heart of the mist to take a look at the majority of gear sets in game thus far.

There are portals to the underworld all over this place and hell, they brought back globs of ecto, obsidian shards and the IDS (Icy Dragon Sword). Honorable mention, hom items….black widow/moa, fellblade and FDS (Flaming Dragon Sword).

I wouldn’t mind armor dyes with particle effects either, however somehow I think Anet is going to reserve that for Armor schemes, I would.

I mean, currently I can’t tell what is what until I spot check name plates, skill animations, boons, signets equipped, virtues for guard. I think the way someone is dressed is the last way I find out what someone is.

Agree with preview of the TP. They must be doing something with preview because prior to Wintersday and the patch around that time I could preview any armor type on my chosen character…now I can only preview medium armor for medium users. Sucks because now I have to take extra steps to get a piece for an alt.

Hope down the road we get something in the form of Alliances from GW1.

LFGtool is the second biggest thing I’ve seen asked for next to culling fixes. The current LFGtool ingame is extrememly lackluster. Totally agree with OP about having to minimize to venture to a website to do the job of what should have been in at launch. MMO=groups usually. GW2 depth of combat discussion?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Akari Storm.6809

Akari Storm.6809

Ya, GW1 didn’t have heroes until 2 years later. It always had henchies though, non customizable.

I feel as many do about the huge contrast between the complexity and depth of GW2 vs many of it’s parents, especially it’s predecessor GW1.

I think GW1 depth came from several different factors.

1. Limited skills tied to specific weapon types…
dagger-about 1/3rd of assassin skills dedicated to daggers
bow- about 1/3 ranger skills dedicated to bows
swords/hammers/sheilds/axes/spears-warrior/paragon
Every other skill in the game didn’t matter what weapon you had.
You could have daggers on your warrior using all spells if you wanted, not saying it’s viable, but an option non the less.

2. Dual Classes- I could be a warrior using all ele skills. You wouldn’t know what you were fighting until I used or began to use skills. You would have an idea of skills I may have by knowing my primary and secondary but not certain until they pop off.

3. Trinity- In pvp you had a designed front line/mid line/back line. Tanks and pressure up front usually, damage and support holding the mid-line and healers defining the backline. Sometimes you would get just 2 lines damage/support with healers. This made for a great feeling of reliance and protection amongst your chosen comrades. Roles. It has worked this way in the majority of MMO’s for a reason, supporting group play. Supporting actual strategy imo. Depth.

4. Conditions/Hexes/Enchantments and Interupting, specific to GW1. Many skills had cast times. You could lock down a player with interupts to weaken a link in the chain. Conditions/Hexes applied pressure to a player to retreat, remove them, have someone remove them but dealing with cd’s and energy you even had to strategize doing that, energy management was a big deal.

Enchantments-you had preventative and reactive enchants. A notable example of preventative were the prot and bonding monks. Enchants used would stop a large amount of damage getting through or atleast redirect it to themselves. Reactive would be those skills like healing breeze which was a regen.

5. Attribute system-Actually, the trait system is kind of the same thing. Perhaps it just needs more skills per class to effect. Think it just had a better understandable format in GW1.

I don’t really see this type of meaningful depth in GW2. I’m trying to use what was given to me and had so much respect for GW1 that I want this version of tyria to be successful and long lasting. I’ll take my breaks when bored and it dawns on me that I’m not really doing anything different no matter how I build my character. The world is pretty. I want to play in it. Just need the attachment in character devolopment.

Hmm, I will say that ranges and armor type will kind of mimick the lines in a trinity system. Range on particular weapon choices will force you to close distance to use them.

From my own personal perspective, all I wanted from GW2 was GW1 in a persistant setting with the ability to jump. For many of the folks I have interacted with over the years said that it being a hugely instanced lobby type game is what either made them not take a chance on it or not staying long. From my own personal perspective, being a diablo type lobby function is what kept it being what many would call a niche game.
From my own personal perspective I thought that the systems in GW1 translated into a persistant world would be like having infinate gold.

Not saying that this game won’t last, just don’t know if it will last for me. Slowly but surely I am starting to see the cracks in the paint. I’m trying to utilize what was given to me but depth is begining to show it’s bottom.

Man, I’m popped and turnt up right now, I have no idea what I typed already or if it made sense. I should stay off the kitten forums. =)

Legendary weapons stats same as exotics

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Akari Storm.6809

Akari Storm.6809

Hmm, somehow down the road I feel that we will encounter true legendaries, weapons and armor. Named pieces that have some actual lore behind them. The current crop has ppl confusing a shiny item quality description with something that is actually legendary because of who wielded it, what it did to garner notable praise or infamy and how it came to be in your hands.

I know the word plays tricks with peoples minds.

Named Exotics suffer the same thing besides the armor pieces named after actual NPC’s from GW1.

I just hope that once ascended armor hits the shelves that they don’t have a million and one stats like some of the accessories, jeez…who wants to track all those stats. What needs to be done is shell out more weapon skills instead of more stats.

I liked the snowball fight the most as it is alot like the snowball fight from GW1. Wish there was a dirty snow skill though.

However, the map design should have been 4 teams instead of 2. Most of the map went unused. I noticed powerups in places that the fight just never took place. 4 teams, different present scoring options located at different parts of the map may have spruced that up a bit.

The dungeon was ok. The minipets were nice. I received the weapon skins I wanted besides the slingshot of which I assume I will get before the 3rd. I only wanted one endless tonic of which I got after 3 tries. All in all, nice event.

I also don’t RP, but am in favor of all the things the RP community want. I respect RPers because they immerse themselves into the world making my immersion deeper when witnessing such things.

A bio page sounds like a good one. I remember City of Heroes having one. I wrote this extensive background for each of my characters even connecting a few of them. How they came to have powers, why they came to liberty city, what ultimately they were searching for in terms of recognition or even belonging and finding themselves.

Book writing sounds great. They could even implement it with how many environmental weapons are left behind are currently.

Emotes I feel are on the way, many slash emote commands that were in GW1 and many other MMO’s simply don’t say anything currently, so I believe they are in work.

Generalization: It’s the themepark EQ/WoW converts that are complaining that there isn’t any progression familiar to them ie power creep cravers, content locust, gear grinders and HC raiders.

Generalization: It’s the sandbox type/skill based crowd that dig lateral progression ie the Guild Wars crowd that are being vocal currently about what was told to them and then hit with the bait and switch or atleast the first step in a baait and switch, more to come no doubt.

I don’t think themepark/sandbox is the right distinction. GW1 was much more of a themepark than EQ. It’s just a question of whether that themepark experience ought to involve a over-eager tourist dad trying to rush you through all the rides.

Yes, but GW1 also had much more of a skill based system with a small level cap and vitually no gear progression. I used the word sandbox because in many of the sandboxes I’ve played, there was usually lateral progression and skill based systems.

This is a FTP game paid expansions are the way to go imo not cobbled together gamebreaking “free” content. (I say 0 because they shouldn’t be used to bring in more exclusion and elitism)

The sad thing is, this game is already full of exclusion and elitism towards players who enjoy vertical progression, and it’s posts like yours which prove it.

elitists go both ways.

But the players who enjoy vertical progression should have known in advance of buying this product that it wouldn’t be here. Instead, they came here, they complained, they received and will still leave while those who came here for the opposite and what was advertised are now leaving or atleast not logging in. Only speaking of what I have seen in my circle. Outside of that I can’t speak on.

Thanks for your replies. But isn’t there something in GW2 that you enjoyed in GW1 as well?

For me, just:

Warrior (both had warriors), Mesmers (like gw1 mesmer better, but still like this one a great deal), chaos storm, eles so far(still early leveling), FDS, centurions dagger, mini-pets, Black Moa/Widow, finding places from old world tyria.

Other than that, I can’t seem to enjoy the necro or ranger enough to make me want to spend a great deal of time with them. I loved my necro and ranger in GW1. I loved the majority of the classes in GW1 so much that I had 2 of every class.

GW2 takes everything you love about GW1...

Many have pointed out the quantity of builds that could be used across pvp and pve, endless in some respect with new ones being created everyday, so this one for me kind of goes without saying.

Anyhow,

1. Classes using any weapons they wanted, not a huge deal I guess, but I liked my casters carrying axes/shields/swords or w/e. Also, the weapon swapping was ok in GW1, if only we could do 4 in GW2.

2. I miss casting times and the real effects of hexes, conditions like dazed, blind, burning, poison and the others. Hexes would punish you for not doing aanything or for doing too much, I loved that. Degeneration builds were so fun and I felt the real panic behind not reacting to them correctly. Interupts, too fun…what more can I say. Disrupting shot on a ranger would make a caster think twice about what skill to pop.

Mesmer interupts could totally shut down the majority of skills in the game.

Not many games actually allow you to see what the enemy is casting at all times.

3. As you pointed out, skill hunting or better yet, Elite skill capturing. In GW1, you had to earn it or when it was later introduced, buy them. In GW2, eventually, just by gaining xp you will have them all per character in no time, no need for skill challenges at all. Then again…roaming from skill point to skill point, you could have the majority of your elites by the time you hit 50.

4. Green weapons dropped by bosses. Liked farming those. In fact, majority of themepark mmo’s out there have this and is something I enjoy, farming for particular items. I remember doing strathholme approx 200 times solo before I got deathchargers reins to drop….and once it did it made me feel like all that time spent was worth it. Same thing for the first green I got to drop solo in GW, the Rotwing Bow.

5. GvG participation and spectating. I liked the idea of having a real front/mid/back line. I kind of see it here when 2 large groups are going at it in WvW. It’s non-existant in spvp. Haven’t really done tpvp so I can’t speak on it.

honorable mentions: Energy management, Guild Halls, one guild/ alliance system, chaos weapons, FA/JQ, Luxons/Kurzicks, Dervish/Ritualist/Monks, spears/scythes and better looking daggers.

What I want: Alliances, GvG , Guild Halls, Housing, LFG tool…something like list of dungeons I que for and others looking for the same dungeon can see me and we contact each other through tells or w/e, 8-10 man dungeons, MORE LEATHER ASSASSIN LOOKING ARMOR, Additional WvW content, some moba style pvp ala Reapers Rumble, more armor looks in general across the 3 types, better looking weapons, more weapon skills and types, gambling (not real cash gambling via BLC)…something like poker or blackjack Tyria style. Many other things come to mind but will probably post those in depth via suggestions board.

Meant to say PvE, but the point stands. You’ll still be able to do all of the old PvE content with exotics (like we already do). But more than that, how are people making estimates before it’s out?
Anyway, if that is true, and it is about a 40% increase in effectiveness, that’s utter insanity—I don’t think ANet would make it that hard.

Lfm dungeon run , ascended geared only, whisper gear or no invite.

“LFM dungeon run, Exotic geared only, whisper gear or no invite.”

Last I checked, that hasn’t taken over the game. Ascended gear won’t either. The sky isn’t falling just yet, Chicken Little.

It has begun! I actually read in chat, “LF1M FoTM 6, if you don’t know what 6 is don’t message me.” and LF2M fractals lvl five only. Good thing everyone has to start over week to week.

I think I get it now.....

I don’t think I’ve logged in and out of game so much in one day. Shame on me for doing that. Had I not dc’d at the last moment in my first attempt after 3hrs of fight I think my complusive demons would have stayed locked down.

After hours of searching, got into one only to have the client crash. Seems I wasn’t the only one. Then get into another and bamm, new build. My luck sucks.
