I have been playing another game, primarily, as of late, and they had a big content update today.

For all the hype leading up and excitement by the players after, the actual volume of content was trivial. No new maps, no new events.. Just a few new primary items, one weapon (no functionality change) and a bunch of really low quality clothing skins.

Three months since release on the PC platform,

Oh, and did I mention the items are also significantly more expensive than what was available before

Even when it’s quiet in Tyria, we get showered with content in comparison.

Nothing like some perspective to put expectations in order.

I don’t mind subsidizing the gold to gems people.. as long as I don’t have to listen to how gems are “so expensive!” to buy with gold.

I am guessing this may be to stop pets from drawing aggro from random yellow animals.. but there are yellow elements that I want my pet to attack – such as the catapults at entrance to the temple of Arah – and even when the yellow element is called as a target and the pet is in aggressive, it will never attack the yellow target.

Same strategy as last beta.

I assume that once it’s in regular rotation, the population will be back to more regular PvP players and result in more use of the functionality of the supporting elements in the map.

I’m ArenaNET’s biggest fan.. and I’m down to logins and the quickest possible dailies for my main. I did spend an hour or so wandering around Orr on the weekend (ah, sweet nostalgia) but I’ve missed the last two Wild Wednesday Tequatl – and I think I’ve at most missed one since the event was redesigned.

My angry eyes are staring at the “Xpat or death” club.

Everything is stacking for me now, so I was wondering if it was something I did or something developers corrected. Either way, happy days.

Hi all!

I used to be a weekend warrior of WvW, but these days I barely do much of anything beyond a pvp game and pve mining for dailies.

My inspiration was diverted to another online game, one in which I just managed to purchase the most amazing toy.. an ATTACK HELICOPTER.

After a fun night of flying my friends around the map, I realized that this might be an exciting addition to WvW.

Why? Well, we already have the Charr “helicopters.” We will soon see the gliders, so the tech is (roughly) potentially in scope. Imagine air support for the zerg… and the AA guns from SoD blazing away.

That would definitely ignite a spark in my Tyrian soul.

Now, I’m not saying that “this game is dead, must have air mounts!”.. GW2 is still awesome. But, I don’t recall seeing anyone suggesting it previously, and I had such an amazing experience in the other game, imagining it in the game I have a deeper love for seems … just.. awesome.

I play one game, per day, for dailies, in unranked. It’s the only reason I enter PvP.

Even at this rate, I find my skills have improved a lot in the game mode.

So, I came to the forum today to see what benefit there would be to moving up to Ranked, other than the opportunity to never see Courtyard again.

This thread has given me the answer:

Nothing. Stay in unranked.

I’ll leave ranked to the people who are serious about PvP.

I bought a MSI GT60 2QD DOMINATOR as a secondary machine for my alts. It was the least expensive 15" 970m laptop I could find, and it runs fabulously at decent frame frates and quality settings, for long periods of play. I have never experienced thermal throttling issues either, though the left side air exhaust makes a great drink warmer

I just noticed that when I have control problems in other games, it’s because I find myself instinctively holding down the ctrl key and right mouse button when moving.

At least I can hold back the “nervous tick” of spamming my AOE loot constantly during battles.

Can’t believe I never thoght of mapping to one of the side buttons on my logitech mouse.. So many options that I don’t map currently because I use them to hold it!

I’m either going to tell people it’s my Specialized Guardian or Elite Guardian.

The philosophy hasn’t changed. Mechanics may change, but the game doesn’t.

If you are desparate to find enjoyment in it, put in the time to find friends in the game. I find that who I play with does more for me than what I play, and i’ve played everything in it.

If you’re hoping the game has changed to suit your needs, forget it.

Content wise, since you have ’t played the game to death yet, there is no need to “wait for expansion content because nothing is going on now.” There is plenty for you, if you choose to explore it.

I notice a correlation between standing in an “odd place”, at logout, that may be considered out of bounds (even though it’s not) when you log back in.

The code appears to be in place to deal with the method of relogging to break out of a map.

I have SHIFT binded to toggle the combat mode of my pet and it worked great.. until today. Checked bindings, and it’s still shown there, but the pet doesn’t change mode.

Clipping occurs only when in motion. It does show when I fire, too, but this are from non firing movements.

Stowed (next image) looks almost the same as this, but the animation plays slightly differently.

Thanks for posting this, I think it’s the first time I’ve seen anyone put in a concerted effort to refute the single core fallacy with the correct technical information.

There is one other angle to approach with the choice of the two cores – which of them overclocks better (practically, since the OP has two on hand) … and something that we have all apparently ignored: the motherboard chipset.

I did a quick search to compare Sandy Bridge to Lynnfield and found this interesting chart.. note that the i7 is only a 760, and running 700MHz slower than the i5 2500. The performance lead goes back and forth between the two.

I know there are plenty of other factors involved.. but perhaps the best option, since you have all that hardware on hand, try one setup, then try the other and see which one gives you better performance.

You are not going to spoil your laptop. Buy a Samsung EVO 850 Pro SSD to speed up data access and… reduce heat generation compared to a physical disk unit, which means less thermal throttling of your CPU and GPU.

Recipe:

Ascended Armor set + Gift of XXX (a la weapons)

Result:

Same stat numbers, but stat set changeable out of combat like Legendary weapons have.

Your thoughts on what would be a reasonable recipe to keep it from being trivial but avoid incurring the wrath of gear grind complaints?

I often read that because the game is not heavily multithreaded, that multithreading is irrelevant. These writers are failing to account for the layers of code that run under the top level application – drivers, memory management, etc. which are multithreaded and benefit from the i7’s improved capabilities in this area (plus additional cache).

The game isn’t the only application utilizing the CPU.

Now, that said, the i5 is a perfectly passable option for playing Guild Wars 2, but after hearing a constant stream of complaints that the game is “CPU bound,” I have to shake my head when the same people recommend lower powered CPU’s to run the game.

My primary is an air cooled i7 6 core at 4.325Ghz, 16GB of CL10 DDR3 at 2.333 GHz, two EVGA 980GTX video cards (stock clock) and 2 Samsung EVO Pro 850 in a RAID 0 (1GB/sec sustained read rate). I run it at 4k resolution with fabulously fast load times. That said, I appreciate that this machine is ridiculously expensive for only gaming (for the average user). It’s also Haswell on an X79.. so I’ll need to upgrade it soon

My laptop is an i7-4710 @ 2.5GHz, 1.6GHz 8GB RAM and nVidia 970M with a single EVO pro 850, at 1080p resolution. It also runs the game fabulously.

My third machine is an i5 with a GTX 770 and PCI-X Raid0 256GB SSD, running 1080p. It runs well, too, but the laptop outperforms.

In terms of experience, I’ve been building systems for over 34 years (yes, it’s possible to be a gamer all of your life, your parents are wrong!)

By monitoring a variety of items and watching for dips in demand. Commodities like ingots are too easy to come by.

Speculation by purchasing large quantities of an item before a patch, with the expectation that the item’s value will go up due to increased need or scarcity resulting from the content of the patch.

You can make gold doing world boss farming, but the key is to do the pre events instead of standing around waiting for the main.. where mobs don’t drop anything. To increase your wealth from a global perspective, you need to earn at a faster rate than the average player.

Except people often forget thE 64 bit OS overhead that the i7 takes care of for you….

Guardian has multiple speed boosting skills (check shouts) available, plus 3 skill on staff. They stack in duration, so once you have your rotations down you can keep yourself fairly mobile. Even possible to use a swiftness of weapon swap sigil to go with your staff

Finally, if you are using a greatsword, swap to your staff in the middle of a skill 3 jump, before dropping the staff swiftness aoe.

Now, all that said.. I still use traveler on my ascended heavy just to have every swiftness option covered. Base speed drives me crazy when I’m using a norn.

I’ve been in the “what?” camp since I first watched the trailer, before I checked in here and Reddit. It doesn’t feel like a “vocal majority” issue.

The high concept rationale doesn’t make sense, for me, either. Are you sure it wasn’t more of a “wow, that’s a great elite skill, it looks like a dragon eating the monster. Let’s call it Dragon’s Maw.” “Sounds great! Now, how do we fit it into the character concept? I have an idea!”

There are plenty of worthy alternatives on these many pages. Perhaps there is a place for reassessment?

I have no interest in playing to the lowest common denominator for the game I love, if you truly can’t afford more, it’s your ptoblem to solve, not mine.

Anet didn’t make anyone’s PCs, so why should they get money for that? Should your ISP get a portion of the profits from the games that you buy…? And there’s nothing wrong with having a gaming budget, because some people actually have other priorities in life.

The xpac should be at a reasonable price so more players would be tempted to buy it. If it costs the same as the base game at launch, I’d say that’s too much.

Yes, that’s my point – with all the money spent on services and hardware making other companies a profit, why should Anet not deserve some, as the maker of the game,
