The easiest way to understand silver league.

Week 1:
Matchups are determined by actual glicko rank. So, 7-9, 10-12, 13-15

Week 2:
The winners of each match-up will fight. So if the top ranked server wins, it would be 7, 10, and 13 fighting.

Week 3 and on: Match-ups are determined by their points.

not so sure about your statement regarding match up determined by points. i think it will continue with winners meet winners, losers meet losers ( and of course 2nd place meets all 2nd place).

silver and bronze is pretty straight forward, because we have 3×3 match ups.

they are determined by points. Not the glicko, but the tournament points (like season 1 points). That is how the winners meet the winners, etc.

It is designed to keep the high pop servers playing themselves more and vice versa (which will happen more often as the season goes on, and the point difference between 1st and last widens. So, SoR will not have to face FA, ever. Probably not have to face SBI or HoD as well. They will escape YB at some point too.

Nah, not trying to derail it, but people should know what they are transferring to. In our SBI threads, we mentioned that we lost people recently.

That said, I know you have a stable core group of people, just like we do. And it is great to be fighting against you in silver. It has been a blast this week.

But, don’t forget that One and Agg left too….

For people considering FA, it is a good server, and even with the losses they aren’t going to drop. They fight hard, and defend well.

I wouldn’t tip SBI for second too soon – IoJ beat us squarely over the mid-week days last week in effectively the same matchup (aside from two departed FA guilds), and IoJ had an early deficit to overcome that week too. The population is a little different this week – achievement hunters and all – but it’s the regulars who have the experience in winning fights, so any timezones where we were weak before, we’re still weak now.

I don’t think SBI is likely to finish any lower than fourth though. The latest exodus doesn’t seem to have hit us anywhere near as hard as the one at the beginning of 2013.

Well, I don’t know if you actually read our forums, Ben, or listen to our server meetings, but….we a lot of people actually decided to rest last week, and not go all out. After Mag, Mag, Db, Db, Db, etc, we needed a break before the season started. We have come out strong and without FA’s NA being able to dominate both servers, IoJ can’t keep up in that time. FA and SBI are actually doing well in the overnight hours, and IoJ is not really gaining any ground in that time period. Sunday night, without people putting in crazy overtime like they did on the weekend, SBI was still able to tick well overnight.

HoD might beat us, we shall see, but right now the ball is in our court. We have a 14k lead over IoJ, and we just have to maintain that (but some of our leaders, like Juggs, will continue to push to increase it).

Iol. Well, all I can say is that FA has been putting up some nice numbers overnight, and they have been organizing them. Sure, they don’t have the ocx / sea that SoS has (but how many servers do). What they have is more than adequate, and it is getting the job done.

So basically, at this point, if the weak ended tomorrow, the 2nd round match ups would be

FA (Green), YB (Blue), HoD (Red)
SBI (Green), BP(Blue), NSP (Red)
IoJ (Green), SoR(Blue), CD (Red)

and, IoJ would probably pass us in glicko ranking after they faced SoR….

Not really. The WvW population as a whole is shrinking, and the people that want massive battles are moving up.

Unless you can convince the pve people on your server to actually WvW, then there isn’t much that can be done. Seasons are a way to try to get the pve crowd into WvW, and it is the wvw community’s job to try to keep those players around and playing wvw. Instead, so many people within the community just call them “pve heroes” or “achievement hunters” and do everything they can to make sure those people will not ever play wvw outside of getting their achievements.

Everyone who plays in WvW was a newb to it when they started, and yet, so many act like elitist jerks (who, by the way, die just like the rest of the people in wvw).

Seriously, take some time to try to get these people more involved, and into your realm, and they might actually stay. In the end, if they are having fun, they will come back. If they feel like they belong, they will come back. Quick being kittens.

BTW, the negative portion of this post is not directed at you, OP. I would just recommend that the lower tiers do all they can to get people to play wvw.

It is terrible. Had this crap 2 nights in a row when figthing against FA, and the 2nd night it affected the whole IoJ bl, not just the battle area.

It is already a lot easier to defend than it is to attack. That said, the reason people don’t play defense is because of one thing, it is boring.

Ha. We pushed off about 5 assaults from IoJ (on their bl) at hills earlier this evening. They had 40 to 60 for almost everyone. FA even crashed the party a few times with around 40 of their own.

We probably had around 30 to 40.

I can tell you one thing….It sure the hell wasn’t boring. Maybe the pvd k-train is exciting to you, but attacking keeps that are being defended, and defending keeps, is probably the most fun I have in WvW. It is so much better than open field fighting, where you just run into each other, spam 1, and see who is the last one standing.

Attacking keeps that are being defended, and defending keeps, actually takes strategy. 1 mistake can cost you the whole kitten operation. Supply plays a factor in it as well. It sure isn’t boring.

I transferred to HoD. Your premise that people are “bandwagoning” isn’t true in every case.

In my research I found that I wanted a balance of play at night as well as the day – several servers looked promising but the coverage was lacking after midnight PST.

I started looking at all of the free servers since I don’t have any money (many players don’t…) and then I visited each one and ran with their pvE crowds to see what I was getting into as far as map chat or lack thereof.

HoD seemed “familiar” as did another server that was friendly as well, but the coverage 24/7 sold me. 3am pst and there are still people…. Magic. So far

And, from the person who talked about t2 earlier (FA person), I understand completely. T3 is so much better now that FA destacked, because we have some good fights, and not always running in a 60+ man zerg. Also, Mag loves those golem rushes. Back when they were 8 and we were 7 (right when our exodus started) they would actually golem rush our keeps at night. We would have 10 people on the map defending, they would bring 30 and golem rush. If 30 can’t beat 10, and they need golem rushes to actually take something, then that shows you the skill level they had.

Shonie, you forgot that SoS beat TC right before EoTM, and we used to see a massive EoTM guild from SoS in EoTM that first week (and then they lost to TC).

I know Vx and Lost transfered to SoS. But TC has no idea how strong SoS is now, no one does because t1 hasn’t faced them yet.

SoS just got 2 more guilds from FA right before the season started (like 2 days before).

SoS might actually pull of an upset of the top 3. But this is all speculation. We will see next week, since it looks like TC has a good chance of losing this week, and SoS will easily win this week.

I wouldn’t say that. They sure were organized, in the sense, that they could waypoint a whole map queue in bay while it was contested by our map queue.

They might not be organized guilds, but there are people commanding them, and they are putting up a severe fight.

Where’s the return for all that time wasted? What incentive do I have to spend all that time and money, when I could just as easily go farm them for bags while they flip the keep, then retake it 5 mins later? Defense event “rewards” are pretty non-existent, yet offense rewards are much much higher. When is the last time you got a loot chest from defending?

I do a lot of defensive play in WvW and I generally look at WvW as costing me gold to play. Unless I spend some time taking objectives, my gold goes down when I play.

One way that players could be rewarded for defensive play is to give them karma based on cost in return for upgrades when they get completed (and possibly exempting the merchant upgrades).

The problem is that if the game blindly rewards upgrades and siege building, players could waste supplies on upgrades and siege weapons that are defensively worthless just to get the reward. This complaint was made during the first WvW Season, where one of the achievements involved using supplies on repairs. Starting an upgrade, building siege, and performing repairs is not always the best use of supplies, and giving a reward for them can encourage people to do the wrong thing.

If they required an upgrade to complete before getting a reward, that would give the player a vested interest in making sure the upgrade completed and thinking about whether they’ll complete before starting them. It still may lead to upgrades being done out of order, but that should be mitigated by the karma reward being proportional to the cost of the upgrade (and time to complete it) so that the order doesn’t matter that much to getting a reward.

Who gives a kitten about a loot chest. You can get bags, bags, and more bags by defending. Also, it is a lot of fun to fight over t3 structures.

And, after that week it depends on points. Winner gets 5 points, 2nd place 3, and last place 1, just like season 1. Each week the matches will be based on how many points you have, and the colors will be decided based on who has the highest glicko ranking. I also believe that if servers are tied in points, the tie breaker is the glicko ranking.

Strategy helps you win, whether you have a zerg or not. You can split off an take crap, and reball when you are outnumbered. You have scouts roaming to give you info, so you can plan on where to go.

I guess you guys don’t defend keeps from those zergs, cause strategy can be involved in those battles. A bad plan will almost always lead to failure.

Also, when all maps aren’t queued, tactics are really what will play out if you are actually trying to win the match. You need to have a plan on where to attack, and what to attack, and pay attention to what the enemy is doing.

Don’t wait til the last minute to transfer. Maybe you should’ve abandoned FA when I made the post on these forums about how you were going to be in silver, no matter what (after reset last weekend).

But, no, some of you waited too long, thinking you could beat a glicko rating system, that couldn’t even drop SoR to bronze as fast as it should’ve.

I dunno. FA had 24/7 commander coverage in season 1. They now have a gaping hole during ocx and possible eu.

Their OCX and EU are doing more than fine right now. We will see during the week, but, so far that seems to be their strong point.

lol @ all these people speculating about FA without ever having fought them since Season 1. I’m pretty confident FA will beat HoD. They don’t have any “gaping holes” in their coverage.

That said, if I’ve learned anything from last season, it’s that predicted rankings based on pre-season scores is meaningless. The PvE influx REALLY skews outcomes, especially in offhour time zones. It seems like this is what’s happening to YB, and if they keep the PvE players in, I wouldn’t be surprised if they placed top 3.

IoJ has less of a PvE effect because most of our PvE players already play WvW; we don’t have that much new blood to tap into. Even though I think we’ll place 2nd or 3rd, I wouldn’t be surprised if we placed 4th or 5th. Again, it’s too hard to call with the PvE effect.

trust me mango, it isn’t the pve players boosting yb, it is the fact that they are playing SoR (which you haven’t had that pleasure yet, and let me tell you, the Glicko system is not helping SoR any atm) and BP (which just lost a lot of it’s wvw community).

First will be FA. 2nd is between SBI, IoJ, and HoD. But, that all can change during the season. YB and Ebay double teamed us, and YB put in crazy hours during last season, to pull the upset on SBI. That can happen again.

We do not not need mommy and daddy or in this case anet telling us were or when we can play. Some chose to move others did not. We all are accountable for our own actions.

You can try to hold “the community” accountable, but the fact of the matter is it’s worthless to do so. It’s like holding a tornado accountable for wreaking havoc. No, you hold the folks who have the power to prevent the damage accountable.

If this is something ArenaNet doesn’t want to touch, that’s fine. Just don’t act like you’ve got some greater perspective because you want to prevent any meaningful discussion by shifting blame to an amorphous group of players defined in your head and no where else. I can’t hold the community accountable for transfers. Actually, a lot of people transfer to the higher tiers for “fights” even though they were getting “fights” on the servers they were on. The only difference, is that that server was not winning the “ppt” battle, so they transfered to a server with more population so they woudl have better “coverage” for that “ppt” battle.

Some guilds transfer because the relationship between them and their server has become toxic.

Some transfer because others transfered so they feel that the server will just lose the “ppt” battle because of a lack of “coverage” and likely lose their “glicko ranking”.

It is pretty pathetic, but it is what it is.

And then, you have the bandwagon people, that take a free transfer to get a silly reward. Let me tell you, HoD, the reward will not be worth the drama that is about to ensue. We experienced it on SBI last season, and you will experience it this season.

And, all those guilds that went to FA for their silver league win. You will most likely win, but FA just lost so many people, that you are now stuck in t3 forever. Or until more guilds leave after the season to get into gold, since that is the trend now. Stack the top 6.

Not all transfers are bandwagoners. I know several guilds transfer from FA (top silver) to Dragonbrand (bottom gold) cause they have zero interest in PvDing for the next 9 weeks.

Amen to that. I am on SBI, and season 1 was boring for all but 3 weeks. The first week against FA (was really fun, FA got us by only 50k), the week YB and EBay double teamed us and helped YB get 2nd, and the last week against FA.

So far, season 2 has been a blast. FA and IoJ are putting up some good fights with us. We don’t have the pressure to win silver this time around, and the drama queens have left the server. Sadly, so has some of the people I loved running with. I don’t know if next week will be as fun. It is shaping up to be BP and NSP for us (unless IoJ beats us, then it is SoR and CD).

FA has had EBG queues usualy around 30-50 on primetime, with under 10 or so on the BLs.

SBI and IOJ are putting up a decent fight, but they’re not going to win it.

On reset night, we had over 100 queue for EB, and the lowest bl we had was FA (and it was over 20)

Saturday was different, we queued all the maps at one point, but FA’s was barely queued and only for a short time. Well, until late when we queued their map and put pressure on their bay for 3 hours. Was fun as hell.

HoD, we will see how you far against FA next week. But, if you don’t know how to defend, or keep FA from getting a t3 keep, then you are screwed.

Chris, stay on SoS. Their NA really isn’t doing much wrecking these days. Actually, they have been doing most of their damage in EU (as well as pulling some good numbers in OCX and SEA). The score is closer than they would like, and no one is backing down in this match.

IoJ, SBI, and FA have been having some great fights, and even though someone will win the coverage wars, no one has backed down yet.

Our NA surely wasn’t getting wrecked in the face by FA’s NA. They lost way too many guilds, and now t3 is more balanced. Actually, on reset, we had the lead for most of NA. We actually rolled FA in IoJ BL on Saturday night, and we were ticking up there with them during late NA.

Don’t even think about underestimating SBI. We come out and fight, and I am sure IoJ and FA have noticed that. Even when we are outnumbered, we keep at it. It has been a good start to the season, and I am pretty sure FA and IoJ are enjoying it as well.

Right now, sinking time, money, and painstaking effort in upgrading and defending anything is completely pointless. You spend hours upgrading a keep, only for it to fall in less than 3 mins (well, sometimes it can take hour or more, but THAT part of the fight is usually done in the lord’s room and has nothing to do with actual upgrades). IMHO attacking a properly fortified structure should always be harder than defending it. it should require tactics and planning. Not just blobbing up, throwing 2 pieces of siege down, and mowing over the point. While I’m sure the uppity “leet” players will counter-argue this (mainly because they like easy caps, which only proves my point) saying some fights can last well over an hour to cap something, but consider which parts of that fight are you spending that time in? Most always the lord’s room and all that is, is which blob is biggest and who has the most banners to throw down. There’s just no feel of skilled play in wvw anymore and I think the defense-vs-offense issue is one of the things at the heart of it.

Hmmm, I think you need to actually defend it instead of complaining. SBI was in FA’s BL for over 3 hours, with a queue, trying to take FA’s t3 bay. We came so close, so many times, but they could just waypoint in a whole map queue and no matter how many we dropped, they kept coming every time the waypoint openend. They would banner the lord to by time. They would sacrifice themselves in the circle. And they eventually kept it (since we had to go to bed).

We drained their supply from bay, hills (IoJ was attacking there) and garrison (we kept sending a havok squad there). But, they were able to hold on, because they do DEFEND their stuff. They will even upgrade keeps in other BL’s and defend them just as hard. It is truly viable, you just need to actually defend it.

Now, we eneded up not succeeding because people were going to bed, but we did leave a havok their, and then switched to EB and took their t3 SM from them.

TLDR; Quit complaining about defending and actually do it. FA does, and SBI sometimes does. You just have to get the server to actually commit to the concept of defending. You can farm a crap load of bags, and for me, fighting over a keep that is being defended (or even defending a keep from a zerg) is the most fun that I have in WvW. Much better than open field figthing.

I don’t buy that crap. Why did everyone leave SBI when it was a t1 server, before free transfers ended? It sure wasn’t because they didnt’ find a home there.

Why did FA just lose a lot of guilds right before the season started? Not because they didn’t have a home.

It is easy to be one of the top 3 servers, and talk about people transferring like it is no big deal, but it is for all the servers below you. You have no idea how many communities have been fractured over the past year due to transfers in and out of servers. Because you are in the top 3, you seem to be a destination for a lot of the transfers, and even the people in t1 that transfer are to other t1 servers.

SoR just felt the pain of losing almost everyone, SBI, and several other servers have gone through that before. Ebay was hit hard to. It wasn’t because people didn’t have a home, it’s because when times get rough, people just jump ship. Some days I wish their were sharks in the water.

FA is going to be hurting some this season. SBI isn’t out in full force, and IoJ and SBI were both beating FA from 1pm EST time on. I think FA will be in the top 3 or 4, but they are not a lock for first.

I don’t know what to expect from HoD, but we shall see come the 2nd week of silver, when they have to play the other 2 winners.

Should be a better season experience in silver this time around, with all the transfers that have happened (and with FA losing recently).

I love SBI, it’s my home. I am biased, but then again, something has to have kept me here for so long, and it’s my fellow wvw players that fight along side me, through the good times (when we were tier 1, and when we climbed back up last fall), through the bad times (when we dropped from t1 down to t4, and these past 2 months).

Can’t wait to have some fun in silver league, especially since FA has lost some guilds (Which has helped balance out t3 some).

The transfer price to our server is 2400 gems, but to me, that is cheap. We are worth 4800, easily.

I understand what he is saying. SBI was stacked before season 1, and then almost all those guilds hopped ship the withing 3 months after the season hurting our community. It isn’t healthy. It is going to happen to HoD as well. Some of those guilds that transfer are going to introduce a lot of unneeded drama during and after the season.

Whether HoD wins or loses silver, they have lost a lot because of these bandwagons. HoD has moved up the rankings pretty well over the past few months, and all that hard work is about to be destroyed.

All I know is the bandwagon players who jump just for a new season are really not that good anyways, they need numbers to win which is why they are jumping. The people that jump servers for seasons have zero integrity or else they would stay on their home world and do their own work to make it a good server. Honestly, I would not want those types of folks on my server, as soon as the season ends they will leave and try to take more people with them than they came with.

HoD has no chance to beat FA, Mag, or DB (whichever ends up 7th). They might beat us (SBI) to get 2nd, but, even with the people who transfered there, they have no hope at 1st in silver.

Please put SoR in Bronze. I am on SBI, and I felt bad facing them the last 3 weeks, and watching them get killed by DB and us.

It will be a horrible season for them in silver league, considering they are truly a bronze league server. The glicko system failed them. They got destroyed 2 weeks ago, and the more they were getting beat that week, it didn’t even change the 81 points that they were going to lose.

Nah, Anet is making it to where everyone will be on the top tier servers. It is kind of a forced server merge (if you are a WvW focused player).

How low are you talking about? I don’t consider HoD that low.

I ran with them a few times, and they are friendly and fun to hang with.

If you are on SBI, and in need of a home during those times, I would highly suggest joining up with them.

If you aren’t on SBI, I can assure you that every penny spent to join them would be more than worth it.

Reset night was a blast, and DB couldn’t pull away from us in PPT until oceanic time. There were fights a plenty, and we dominated EB that night.

SBI might get kicked, but we never stay down, we never stop fighting. We are out there, having fun, and figthing for everything we can get in a lopsided match. If you are looking for fun, and a nice respectful community, come our way. Season 2 is gonna be a blast.

Before we wanted even matches so ANet decided to match the servers strictly in triplets, and strangely enough this matchup is 7-9. Now that being said this is because SoR’s rating needs time to adjust, it will drop out of T3 next week or the week after. Now this is the part that creates controversy: should ANet do things like make a judgment call and put SoR in a T4 match this week in anticipation of them losing rating? Seems reasonable but I’m not certain.

A lot of people like that hater from Mag don’t like DB because it has SEA guilds. We also have only 2 EU guilds on weekends and 1 on weekdays. Don’t be kitten just because you don’t outcoverage us in all time zones.

We don’t want DB in T2 for reasons that have nothing to do with your SEA coverage. We all know that DB is nowhere near capable of competing in T2. They’ll be absolutely destroyed. Likewise, if FA gets shoved down to silver for the league because of DB consuming score from SOR, every silver league server is going to wish DB was back, because FA will absolutely dominate, and it won’t be fun for anyone involved.

If you don’t want to fight DB in gold, or worse, be stuck in silver, then you and FA should actually show up this match. Seems SoS came out to play, or You and FA decided to stay home.

So it’s up to DB, in the end. With their good coverage they’d be more valuable than FA in that spot if they came to fight. If they wobble, if their PuGs don’t show; we’ll push them down not out of cruelty, but because it’s the best thing for all involved.

DB has good coverage, but they are no match for SoS/FA/Mag. Maybe their coverage can keep them close on score (kind of doubt it to be honest), but they’ll get slaughtered by the organized guild groups on those 3 servers. Don’t think you’ll even need to double team them — Mag was able to do it by themselves in the DB/SBI/Mag matchup with no double teaming.

DB dies too easily to take on Mag, FA, and SoS. When 20 people run from 2 arrow carts, and 5 people, who are defending SBI garrison, then you have no chance in t2.

Also, you just can’t turn tail and hit another BL in t2, when your karma trains gets beat at NW tower.

DB cannot make gold league. They are going to move up to 6th after this week, and FA will drop to 7th. If the matchups stay, 7 vs 8 vs 9, then FA will gain enough points against SBI and IoJ (or BP if they sneak into 9) and take back their 6th place spot in gold. So, yeah, DB isn’t tanking to stay in silver, they are fighting hard to stay in silver.

Gonna suck to be a t1 server during the first few weeks of season 2. Enjoy that EoTM.

To all suggesting Bronze league servers: no thank you. used to be in Devonas awhile back and those bottom servers are just dead compared to others. looking for something in the 13-16 range

Andrew: why would I stay in SBI? this server is so dead and only people to fight are giant map blobs. that’s the opposite of fun for me.

Yeah, we aren’t in a competitive tier right now, with the t2 wannabe DB in our tier, and the unfortunate SoR still not falling fast enough.

But, the servers below us have just as much, or even less population than we have. So, if you think this is dead, then I feel for you when you get to t5.

Don’t know what to tell you. We’ve had extremely lopsided matches before, either completely outnumbered or completely outnumbered our opponent, and it was boring. Balanced matches are more fun but it just means the same names every day. Also allows good rivalries to develop.

You live in t1, which isn’t even real wvw for most of the servers.

Transfer down to t5, during the free transfer period, and see how the other 75 percent of us live.
