Yes, i use 5 chars at time. Because REASONS.

@colesy:
I wouldn’t use greatsword to begin with tbh.
But maybe i’m biased – i hate it with passion.
Manly because GS = iZerker then 20 sec on nothing… the skillset looks very lackuster to me.
MH Sword chain > 3rd skill (both for dmg and boon stripping)
IntoTheVoid > 5th skill
2nd skill is passable but the recent changes to bounces logic made it a bit wonky
1st skill is plain bad.
Overall i never use it. 1st cause Sword + offhand of choice blows up all the other options in every terms imo (dmg and can pack utility with focus), 2nd i prefer staff.
The only scenario where i’d use GS is taking away some small trash mobs. Istant aoe ranged it’s good for it. But again – iZerk then sit on those other 4 useless skills.
Even if i know it’s personal preference in the GS vs Staff endless debate.
Surely chaos armor recent change made Staff a bit less desiderable, cause you’d use it for defence weapon set.
All in all: Sword + x / Sword + y will be probably my choice.

About coe you should know that an iwarden can survive 1 or 2 Alpha aoes
That makes them sure to land at least 1 or 2 full Attacks.-snip-
But for bosses, mesmer dps is not bad.
Because as said, the DPS ramps up over time until you get 3 phant out. Boss fights are the only scenario where…well…the mob itself last long enough to reach that point.
Even with IC you’ll need 20-30 sec or more (depending on phant) to reach a decent/top dps with 2/3 phants (of same kind i mean. you can istantly summon 2 phant with the 2 weapon set and then wait 16 sec for recast the first one, thus reaching 3 phant cap quite fast). Ofc, taking in account the scenario where boss plain ignore your phant and they can survive long enough.
About CoE, depends on path, tactic and phant used – but if you spawn a duelist at range on P1 and he get a dragon’s thooth floating on his head, he will simply melt.
Using the right phant is part of being a decent mesmer tho.

The spider has 2 attacks: the cone poison (which is what triggers the debuff for increased dmg. can’t be reflected) and the projectile barrage, which can be reflected.
If you get poisoned by malrona or the champ orrian spiders in arah you do like 6x the damage to them. Also effects projectile reflect damage. You can pretty much instagib malrona with a decent group. This is why I always tell pugs not to cleanse the poison, but they never listen.
That^
Getting the debuff will increase your dmg, if you can combo it with a feedback on the porjectile barrage (has a huge tell so no probs) then you can literally instantgib the boss.
Also, take note that the Champion Spiders in Arah are a carbon copy of Malrona – same debuff mechanic and attack pattern.
So how does the DPS of 3x duelist hold up to say, a guardian with greatsword/sword+focus?
I’m 90% sure that Swordsmen are better than Duelists.
And a Mesmer with 3 fully buffed Swordsmen does more dps than any other profession except ele.But this won’t ever happen, in any common situation mesmer have the lowest dps output.

The only issue: every single update in this year encouraged blobbing over splitting up. Placing new cap points is a start but if the size of map doesn’t grow (and it will not) that might actually worsen the issue, cause map gets more cluttered with a higher density of cap points, thus players.
On paper Mesmer DPS has the potential to be huge.
There are 3 major flaws tho:
- it’s bound to phantasm, thus AI, and their survivability. Very unreliable to plain unviable for some bosses like alpha with costant aoe DMG.
-bound to 1st thing, the phant DPS reach the apex with 3 phant out. This means it ramps up slowly AND it “reset” when your phants get killed. Again, good on paper but unreliable.
-there are some bugs hindering it. Phantasmal haste, which would male a great DPS increase, just do not work sometimes.
WvW is all those things, but the real issue is the balance between the parts.
Controlling as point scoring mechanic, thus victory mechanic, means “who have most coverage wins”.
Siege is a core feature of wvw, and it’s ok, but there’s a difference in having it playing a role on the scene and the current Siege War.
And managing atm is just “where should my zoneblob go?”, not the “let’s split up and hit 3 places at same time”.
All in all, current situation is favouring Siege, Controlling and Managin over the plain PvP.
Some see it just as “It’s WvW that’s how should be played”, some as “I want to smash people bare hands in excting fights, how the hell this laggy blobbing 24/7 running from fights building ACs everywhere is a pvp game mode?”.
That’s it. And so far Anet is going to the route of favouring/changing WvW around the former.
My only issue with this event is it drains every single open world pve player.
Behemot surface and stay alive for 1hr.
Madness!
But i guess it won’t be a problem anymore from 3 Sept on when they’ll remove this LS part and reduce the respawn of invasions.
How to fix scepter:
-Add MH Pistol, make it full power MH ranged weapon
-Turn Scepter in full condition weapon instead of this undetermined an unfinished crap, with bleed or something on a better animated and designed autoattack and few tweaks to 2nd and 3rd skills
-profit
If they really didn’t want peopleto skip they would design DGs filled with doors that will open only by killing all or tot mobs.
It’s the same thing of Gw1 – if they really didn’t want people to speedclear they could just have butchered every single skill used, Shadow Form Obsidian Flesh Shroud of Distress Sliver Armor I Am Unstoppable and so on.
Guess what, they completely left all of them out of any balance patch (aside minor tweaks that didn’t shock the meta so much).
They will never say “We want you to skip/Speedclear”, but as long as they leave alone content or skills in hands of players suited for it, that’s already allowing it.
Might still be that on Gw2 they don’t have the DG team to tweak all the encounters to be unskippable, granted, but Gw1 history is clear to me.
WvW isn’t intented to be PvP. It’s meant to be WvW.
Which is where afterall the 2 positions are different.
WvW is PvP with some sieging, control and whatnot attached
- or
Sieging, controlling, managing and whatnot with PvP attached
?
Horrible design, I agree.
Just like anything regarding 99% of bosses, btw.
Just one consideration for you guys that can’t stand Gvg.
Why do you think that wvw guilds, which spent (and keep spending) a LOT of time in wvw playing it “properly” came out with GvG in first place?
Because played “properly”, in the same amout those guilds paly wvw (always), wvw is boring. Bad. Doesn’t encourage in any shape or form actual Player vs Player over a AC vs Ram or Siege vs Siege in general. It doesn’t encourage to play differently from zoneblobbing 24/7, which is the worst thing – yet, da*nit, the most effective – in wvw bringing lag, frustration, and makes skill of a server fall to sheer number of dumb autoattackers.
Whatever is the reason, the point of making GvGs is that those wouldn’t exists in first place if only Anet delivered/developed/listened over this 12 months.
The options were either quit the game or come up with something to keep the interest alive in wvw. And there is why GvG born.
And come on, you do really think that wvw would be better w/o guilds? Turning in a permanent zergballing of uncoordinated random ppl with random classes with random builds and who has more ppl or more AC wins? That’s really a better wvw in your eyes?
The absolute #1 reason they have not attempted to implement something like “GvG” is because it would kill spvp.
Anything different from current spvp could kill it.
It isn’t easy task to create something worse.
Although I do understand your concerns, I should also add that in GW1 weapons were customized to your character (for +20% damage, but they became soulbound). So I understand ANet’s approach in GW2 concerning the legendaries..
Aside some quest reward or bonus packs, every single weapon in GW1 was tradeable.
I could use a sword for 3 years, use it across different characters and when i get bored of it sell to someone else. Same for every other weapon with, as said, very few exceptions.
The “soulbound 20% dmg” was a totally optional thing. Pay a small fee and bound the weapon in exchange of that buff.
And you can’t play because EB is the map with most q for most hours.
Useless? No.
Have they become a mere Veilbot + bunch of cheesy mechanics as toolbox for zerging and nothing more? Definitely.
Confusion: got killed.
Phantasm: unviable in group play.
Shatter: if only clones weren’t able to be killed before shattering while running to opponent…
Mantra healing: gimmick…can’t really see a place for it.
That’s it.
The only build that mesmer ever had for zerging/wvw group play was glam confusion and got gutted badly due to, as usual for mes, bad players qq’s.
The changes previewed makes you, Anet, looks so much out of touch and deaf to your community it’s not even funny.
Granted, you shouldn’t do what community ask and nothing more. Granted, some things and plans sounds neat.
But…
-Pushing the wxp perks even more and still believe that making it soulbound is a good idea (hint: make it acc bound already instead of making workarounds around it like liquid wxp and faster gain rate)
-BL maps have new objective? sound nice…but the maps are still freaking small. obejctives were already too clustered, ppl asked to have larger maps for spread them more or have some workaround around it (like doubling the number of BL’s and halving the number of players per map). Overall, reducing the player/objective density. Instead, you trow 5 more objectives in the middle of the BLs w/o doing anything else regarding size?
-The system itself for buffs sounds terrible. manly because there is still much to be seen about it, but it opens up to even worse snowballing than orbs at first glance. ah, and if you bring back the orb stat buff, you’re effectively doing the most stupid thing you could. killing off istantly GvG’s and any fair roaming fighting while favouring the most numerous server.
-treb mastery is so OP that makes me cry. Again, siege v siege > player v player? Genius.
-“we will look at achievements for wvw being out of reach” – max rank is 10k – seems legit.
-no mention of some long time needed and asked bugifxes. no mention of fixing commander tags tools for make them worth 100g, or give them a guild perk variant, or make them usable in wvw with some kind of wvw gating for have only real wvwers become wvw commanders. no mention of fighting hackers and AC exploits. no mention, in any shape or form, about the most important topic, aka: kill the current blob 24/7 to win meta.
Kill it. With fire (rams).
Am I missing something or is Trebuchet mastery WAAAAY OP?
Supply drain on cow, new waterfield skill and tower supply drain?
This will lead to huge supply shortage. In larger sieges nobody will have supply because all attackers will be drained by cows and defender will get drained by normal shots. So main force will facerub the gate with a support of trebs from afar. Also with no supply around it will become excessively difficult to upgrade and repair forts. Supplies haven’t been exactly in excess even until now. I am afraid that this might lead to all towers being wooden.PvD on wooden forts and treb vs treb artillery combat. Treb wars?
I am curious how this will actually work out…
Short answer: Yes.
Ppl here is still talking about the name?
jeeez, you can call is GuidSpanking or whatever, it’s named gvg just cause it’s 2 guild teams killing each other, it has nothing to do with Gw1 GvG – is it so hard to understand? Or it’s just a useless argument to take away credit from that fighting?
You talk about skill, but Gw1 PvP (not even GvG) was already better than the top of Gw2 pvp, so that’s not a argument. You don’t like it’s called gvg? Deal with it, that’s the name most used atm. You don’t like that some players wants a pvp based, idk…about actually killing opponents to win instead of sitting on a cap point? Or that 5 is a too small number for have some mechanic to be part of the game? (and before you say that so many ppl makes it too messy, in spvp effects are bad enough already to give the same “wtf is going on”).
I’m the first one to have doubts about gv- oh sorry – “guildteamskillingeachotherinopenfieldcauseAnetdidn’tgaveanytoolstohavesomethingbetter”, and critiques, but as long as everything you can say about it is “It’s not GvG how dare you use that name”, you look silly.
And i do have played Gw1 a lot, yet i’m not so bothered by that. It’s just the freaking name.
Dungeon team doesn’t even exists anymore.
’nuff said.
Spectators: best thing is having them take away their weapons or directly use costume/city clothes. This will take away the “forgot to turn off auto and trow fireballs at guilds”. Spectator sometimes do aggro and kill boars respawning in the middle of the fight tho. Might be a nice idea to have “stranger specators” stay w/o weapons/armor, and the every team field a extra man or two or their guild taking care of those mobs if needed. Same goes for cleaning opponent’s stacks or ressing allies.
In other words, adding a couple of guildies (they wouldn’t be hard to have even for smaller guilds cause they’re not actively needed for the match so can be “random guys”) from both parts to do those couple of jobs done atm by random spectators.
Orbs: surely we’ll have to watch closely the kind of buff it’s going to be attached to them. Also, another issue might be the aquisition now changed from orbs to “something” else.
First: buff to MF/Gold Find/Karma/WXP and such would be the ideal thing – both from a wvw balancing standpoint (snowball the zergiest server moar?) and for gvg’s (no actual stat buffs → no unbalance). Otherwise that would be a real issue. Either both servers gvg’ing leaves orbs to third server (and if you challenge a guild on the third server right after first gvg? And if there are 2 gvg at same time with all the servers involved?), but that would make gvg’s even harder to pull off, cause you have to add “orb management” on top of all the already existing agreement. And also the rest of a given server might not be so nice to hand over a orb for the sake of a balanced gvg for one of their guilds. Other option would be 1 orb each for every server – but the problem is always there, and also action in wvw doesn’t stop so you could actually get orb buff added/removed while gvg is running…not cool.
Second: Devon said that the mechanic of orbs are gonna change. Actually, there aren’t orbs anymore. If the new system makes the “orbs”…untredeable or flippable at will….then even if you could actually agree with other server to manage/hand off orbs for balance the stat buff, it might not be possible to do anymore.
All that said, the request of giving a in-game structure to this mode from Anet still stands.
I don’t think that, despise those updates and quotes, they disagree/ignore gvg. They hold the game, if they really didn’t want you to gvg they could just delete/fill that area behind windmill, at any time. The issue is that at this rate of developing of wvw, by the time we might have something all guild will already have left this game.
2 things a 20v20 GvG will have that 5v5 PvP will never have.
A better chance for every profession to participate.
A better chance for a variety of team composition and builds.I’d add a 3rd:
A monkey can participate and be successful. You mean like a spirit ranger in the current meta?
Epic win, lol

Hoping for a simple ANet response one way or the other on this, so we as players know what to expect.
GvG scene, love it or hate it, is getting larger all the time. In-game guesses are saying that probably around 80% of WvW-specific guilds are either already doing “structured” GvG or are interested in (or training for) starting it.
Orbs could stand to undo the entire GvG community in a truly ugly way, as a team getting a buff for ANY amount of time would destroy the fairness of matches.
What we would like to know is: Does ANet have a plan to allow the continuation of GvG activities along with the orb buffs? Is there any factor, unknown to us as players, that would allow GvG activities to continue despite the incoming orb buffs?
GvG and fair field fighting are what keeps a lot of us playing WvW at the moment. If those concepts get destroyed, people are going to stop playing. That’s not sensationalism, it’s just truth.
Can you please give us a tidbit, a hint, a something so we can set expectations for how this community is going to move forward as these changes come out?
They already answered.
So, in regards to GvG and openfield, I don’t see a lot of “rampant speculation” going on. If nothing else, you chose your words poorly. The complaints about this new system potentially killing the GvG scene is entirely grounded.
This forum and this topic in particular are about WvW. WvW is about sieging and controlling objectives and about open field combat. All our changes are with that totality in mind and will continue to be.
Aka: they don’t give a kitten about GvG while planning updates.
Any impact of orb’s buffs on GvG’s probably hasn’t even been considered.
But SFR primetime is already full – if not overpopulated.
So, it’s not matter of elitism, but additional transfers (bandwagon moar?) WILL be a problem. Period.
Unless it’s off time coverage – a small guild transferred from US, got no problem to find his space if the wasteland of SFR night coverage.
The only reason there haven’t been nerfs (neither major fixes – aside MH Sword 1st skill, yay…) is only cause Anet said they do not want to touch balance prior their beloved PAX tournament.
Where one of the most compelling prof to play (and watch to play) won’t be due to stupid condispam brainless meta, but w/e.
Expect the patch right after it to contain all the nerfs they didn’t in this 2 months.
I don’t think the majority of the playerbase should suffer because a select few decide to play the game on potatoes and toasters.
Nice attitude, if it weren’t for the lil issue that those “potatoes and toasters” ran the game for one year just fine until this patch.
Also, “majority of playerbase” – numbers or don’t make claims.
They’ll run the game just fine right now if you TURN YOUR kittenING CULLING SETTINGS DOWN.
You haven’t tried pre patch culling and lowering to “Lowest” both culling settings, do you?
Pre culling: some players didn’t get renderized at all. Players renderized are accurate.
Postcullig 2x lowest: every player is renderized. every player look like a stickman. or with weapons always drawn out.
It’s not the same thing. And runs (and plays/look) horrible.
if you can’t get down the high stand cause you can afford a new rig every 3 year, then there isn’t much to discuss.

As said, problem of Scarlet is having 0 build-up. No reasons. No hints or evens happening due to her acting behind the scenes – aside Aetherblades attack.
Appears out of thin air, do some crazy talk, smash some stuff and say “I’ll make my minion invade Tyria, cause i can and i like to”.

-Phantasmal Haste-
Cause it would just kitten off both WvWers (they want PvP, not some random mobs and PvE crap running trought the playfield) and PvErs (remember Kite/cache hidden in JP? “QQ i must go in WvW but ppl kill me there”).
I would love LS events in WvW, it wouldn’t even be difficult
Please no.

Actually the invasion are much less zerg based than i expected, or that you might think.
First, events happens scattered across map – if you don’t splint in at least 4-5 groups or more you hardly will be able to complete them fast enough to succeed at it.
Secondly, tied to first point, those events will scale with the number of player doing it. So if you try to zergball the events, you’ll have a much harder time cause they will start spawning a LOT of champions, thus making 5 manning a event easier and faster than zerging it down with brute force.
So, if you’re just trying to farm ok, there is nothing new. But for succeeding, actually, the invasions are much more “small groups friendly” than “zerg based”.
Actually, yday me 5 guildies and a couple of other people almost carried our overflow to succeding invasion, cause they where stuck in 2 huge zergs – with so many people the events scaled HARD and neither of the 2 zergs were able to complete events at decent rate. Instead our 5 man team didn’t face any issue in closing spawns very fast – by the time 2 other zergs (100ish ppl) completed 3 events, we already did other 10 events hopping around the map, bringing down the bars much faster than them and contributing much more.
So, imo, this event is actually a step in right direction about “massive but not braindead zerging”.
Mesmer before the huge rework: manly a PvP class based on countering the opponent.
Mesmer after: best nuker for PvE content.
What did they do? Simply, most Mesmer’s skills were single target. In PvP that was ok, cause locking down more than 1 opponent wasn’t balanced, but for PvE AoE>Single target. Thus, in the update a LOT of skills just became form single target AoE. Plus some new mechanics added or reworked.
They did a very good job on it. In PvP Mesmer retained and even improved their strenghts (lockdown and CC) but didn’t became too powerful – also thanks to oculaded splits like Feverd Dream losing the Daze in pvp – while becoming instead a top tier PvE class thanks to now AoE armor ignoring frontloaded dmg (Esurge, CoP, CoF, Mistrust) being added on top of god tier aoe mass CC (Panic, Fevered Dream, KS).
But the main difference with Gw2 is that mobs used same skills/attack of players in same way and with same mechanics. And there wasn’t any defiant crap. Thus interruptions in PvE weren’t only possible, they were awesome and required to lock down mobs to AoE down.
Especially in high end pve, where your 8 lvl 20 man team must wipe off 15 lvl 32 mob, making them almost unable to use skills (Panic, VoR, Mistrust or FD) while you burst them down was nearly required to make the pressure manageable by your backline.
Here, try using confusion on a player and on a mob. Plus defiant. Plus a craploand of istant cast stuff.
That’s a core issue in giving mesmer that direction.
I’m fine with trading off some dmg to superior CC and shutdown: but as long as the game system is not suited to it, that’s just making of mesmer a mess.
We will be adding more liquid WXP that will be purchasable, likely with badges and some other currency, soon. As in, less than a month. I’ve made it a personal goal to improve the experience for playing alts in WvW. And to cut it off now, we are not making WvW rank account bound.
-Liquid WXP
-Faster gain rate
-WXP booster
When acc bound WXP would make all this work unnecessary…
/idon’teven
What there’s SO wrong it making it acc bound and cut it off? You’re doing everything to work around it while simply changing the WXP to acc bound would resolve all of that…
Just give a reasonable response.
Even “We want you to buy booster to make money” is ok, but give us one.
Faren’s cutscenes, like the one of Logan in the Dead End Bar of Divinity’s Reach for Sky Pirates, is the right direction.
For future, updates, moar of it.
As far as story go…it’s not that bad itself – but – Scarlet is incredibly disappointing.
I expected her to be a already existing character that turns out being a traitor (see all speculation more or less justified around about Anise or whatever other female character already present in the story). And, even in the case of having a new character as villain, there was literally 0 fights and build-up of struggle against it – just popped in ceremony out of nowhere telling you “I’m bad i’ll punch you all cause i want to” – having a couple of releases of Story focusing on stopping some Scarlet undercover actions to have a sense of danger build up, know there’s a enemy, and then, having it show up would have been a much better introduction for this character.
Also, a non-human makes little sense for a “let’s screw up Kryta and Human society”, the reasons beihnd it are just “I’m having fun spreading chaos”, which makes Scarlet even more generic.
Water blast – treb shotting point blank behind gates for defenders, can already see that. Multiple trebs.
Supply drain – this is idiocy made as WXP perk. You’ve zerged enough to get up a treb in sm? Nice, now drain supply from the red keep w/o even touching their dolyaks or getting close to them.
/idon’teven
I think it has to do with Character Quality.
Try putting it on “Highest”.

At least of the 3 major spots, Anchorage/Embers will be slowed down.
2 things:
-split WvW and PvE culling settings. For wvw i might want to have maximum possible FPS, thus sacrificing graphics. In PvE i might prefer to see more fancy and shiny stuff. Re-doing all the setting everytime hopping in and out of wvw is incredibly annoying.
-wasn’t culling a client-side thing? Well, put a check box for “enable – disable culling” – for pve manly. My pc is bad, but i preferred 1000 times seeing only a part of ppl but decently, rather then seeing now a crowd of stickmans (of a horrible pink color, btw).
Inb4 “buy a new rig or GPU” : not everybody is lucky enough to do so. And i played the game fine for 1 year, seeing things changed this way with no option even to keep old settings is incredibly annoying – as long as it’s a client side thing as they always said…
Called it ages ago…
This is plain ridcolous..
Think I’m going to wait for Anet to actually do something good for the game before I start thanking people for promising future changes.
+1
Do not want to seems like a kitten, but as long as there is a pile of “soon” (repeated since launch) and 0 willing to hear community plea’s (wxp is getting faster gain rate + liquid jugs – anything BUT making acc bound that would makes those 2 things unnecessary…WHY?), i’ll hold off my thanks.
I’ll be first in line when things, you know, will actually happen.
Hey! It’s one year already!
Did you remember back in beta where we had only 2 maps for wvw?
Where culling was giving us hell?
Where coverage was already the winner?
Where commander were useless 100g trown away for a tag a supply count and nothing more?
Where Badges of Honor had 0 to little practical use?
Where matchmaking was all messed up?
Where there wasn’t any reason to do not zerg like ants all day?
Where maps were so little you could cover the whole distance in 2 mins and repel any attack from wherever with your zone mighty blob?
Do you remember?
Actually well 2 of those have actually become a memory.
We now take ret on blurred frenzy, plus it has a longer cooldown. IC moved to grandmaster so all illusion-summoning skills have 4 seconds longer on cooldown (or 8 in the case of decoy) unless we stick 25 in illusions, blinds/invulns cancel phantasm summons, iLeap still hasn’t been fixed and there’s rumours of phantasms having a -20% damage nerf.
Sure, mesmers are totally FINE.
I rarely ever get annoyed on this forum, but even thinking about the constant mesmer nerfing just infuriates me.
Adding in: Confusion being halved in spvp (fine) and WvW (not fine at all). Confusion+Glamour builds destroyed with Blinding Defubblement nerf on top of that. Chaos Armor is now a joke. iZerker didn’t work for like 8 months. Phant CD’s have been increased at least 2 times before the IC nerf. Some traits like Phantasmal Haste simply do not work. Portal has been nerfed like 5 times (even though uses cap was warranted, CD is not). Time Warp got hit by 50% reduction of Quickness power (like frenzy haste etc) but, unlike those other skills, got no compensative buffs – while still sitting on a 210 sec CD. Scepter still doesn’t have a proper identity since they took away confusion from auto, back in BWEs. Torch phantasm is still a joke..
There’s no way he’s past level 15 without ever having a vial drop.
RNG.
I had to convert Globes of Mist Essence to get my first Vial ever.
I know that this might sounds stupid/captain obvious or whatever…but why do not use a credit/paysafe/paypal card?
I really wish ANet was listening to us, I even made my mesmer my main because I liked it that much but they just don’t want thisclass to evenbe remotely good.
Same feeling.
I struggled to find out a mainc between all my chars (yes i’m a altholic, but had to define a simgle char to priorityze over others, due to all this time-gate cr*p), and my ultimate choice has been between Mes and Guard.
I even started to do stuff on mes, he has ascended stuff fractal lvl and shiny weapons.
Then turned to guardian.
It’s terrible to have your beloved char getting gutted each patch due to some spvp qqer’s.
At least with the Guardian i don’t live with the terror that any month or patch might destroy my build, my equip usefulness or my char althogheter.
Thing that happens on regular basis on Mesmer.
