Most used: Guard/Mes/War/Nec/Ele.
Yes, i use 5 chars at time. Because REASONS.
ESO looks like another SWToR to me – all brand and little substance – but could surely be wrong.
As far as massive pvp goes, i fear that CU will be next chance, unless i’m missing some other MMO along the way (maybe Archeage? should go back anc check) packing WvW/RvR or such.
Warrior damage is not as high as Thief or Elementalist. Warrior sustained damage is not as high as Guardian. Warrior DPS is only slightly better than Ranger.
The thing is that Warrior’s DPS is 10 times easier to pull off compared to Guard, Thief and Ele, for the average player.
You know, for those 3 profs (manly Ele/Thief) you might need to dodge.
Very specific and perfectly timed DPS rotation on a Warrior is easier to pull off than turning on autoattack with a Sword on Guardian? You also need to dodge on every single profession to maintain your health for Scholar Runes / not dying. Thief requires you to stay in Dagger / Dagger behind a boss and autoattack or use 2 abilities. Ele requires you to Fiery Rush into a corner or autoattack with Lightning Hammer. Warrior requires a lot more thought.
Keep in mind we’re talking about pugging and average players, not optimized running.
I’m not saying that War is easier to Min/Max than Guard, Thief or Ele.
But the average pug will go War for DPS. Thief and Ele are too fragile for them, and Guard is rarely seen as DPS source.
As wrong as it can be, that’s how most pugs i’ve met see professions – that was my point.
This is why I only do dungeons with friends/guildies. Bring the player, not the class.
+1
I can’t carry myself to pugging anymore tbh.
Have you never played Daoc?
Have you never played Gw2 WvW when orbs were in?
It was terrible to say the least.
Also other ideas are terrible or unpraticable, maybe except the WvW specific skills – which are hardly going to happen anyway tho.
I think we should make a worldwide warning “Do not start a DPS comparison/ranking between classes, EVER”.
Anyway you got lucky OP, but yes, properly played DPS Guards can pack the utility of well-timed virtues/shouts/blocks AND the superior dmg of a full zerk equip.
The issue is finding ppl playing it, and playing it well.
Seems like a “If you’re a GvG guild and don’t like this update, sck it and leave my server thanks”, shame that majority of ppl stll don’t get that GvG’ers are first and foremost WvWers, and the most active of the server most of the time.
Anyway @ OP,

I think the point is to force the zerg to split and manage the central buffs;
Issue is, with maps not getting enlarged and all 5 points being clumped so close each other in the “lake area”, i don’t think zergs will split up at all.
And, if stat based buffs are surely shiny, they’re also dangerous, overpowering and toxic for wvw in every aspect – being it roaming, gvg or whatever fight with a player.
They got rid of orbs for a reason.
And no, it wasn’t just “too easy to hack”.
Miles better than a stat buff.
Anything at this point would be better than the stat buff.
Add a “No skipping” to your LFGs
Done.
/truestory
Megadestroyer will probably get bumped a bit (too easy atm) and hopefully get in the group of “chest” events.
Fire elemental and Golem Mark II are getting updates cause they’re autoattack – afk bosses.
Fire is not designed to hold all the players that farm him everyday. Golem has tons of hp but drakes around there are more dangerous than him.
Just some speculation, btw.
I don’t understand why people suggest 20/20/0/30/0.
Is there some trait in domination besides Empowered Illusions that’s actually worth taking?
20 in Power for GS traits cause they’re too stubborn to drop the crappy GS, i guess.
(ninjia’ed)
For me best build(s) is either
10/30/0/30/0
10/30/0/0/30
0/20/0/25/25
Depending on weapons used, content, preferences.
Swapping around with Sword + Pistol, Sword, Focus and a Staff or GS as backup from time to time (using it very rarely tho).
Where is that screen there is confirmation that those are Anet devs?
Unless you know them name by name, but they never had trips on EU so have no idea.
Had similar (same?) idea few days ago:
Or change the buff into something not stat based, like any brain-provided developer would do.
Outmanned: +50/100/150 to all stat depending on how large is disparity
Bloodlust: gain utility buffs depending on how many points you hold, magnitude of buffs (10/20/30%) depends on the points held on different BL’s.
In order:
1 point: +Exp
2 points: +karma
3 points: +Magic Find
4 points: +Gold Find
5 points: +WxPHold 1 point on all 3 BL’s -> 30% more Exp.
Hold 3 points in one BL, 5 in another BL and 1 in the third BL -> 30% Exp (3 times 1 point held), 20% karma, 20% MF (2 times held 3 points), 10% Gold Find, 10% Wxp.
Hold 5 points on all BL’s ->30% Exp, Karma, MF, Gold Find, Wxp.Plus the stomp points.
Bam, everybody is happy.
And guess who replied saying what..
No one would care about the buff, completely defeating the point of it.
Bloodlust
- One point for every stomp made while under effects. (stackable)
- +33% Magic find (stackable)
- +33% Karma bonus (stackable)
- +33% Experience (stackable)
- +10% World Experience (stackable)?
And then no one would care about it, and the whole purpose of it would be lost.
@Vena: i see your point, a buff should be very desiderable in order to draw players to pvp for it away from main objectives. But a dev should also balance it out with the impact of said buff.
Stat buffs are the worse kind for WvW. I don’t even need to speculate: we had Orbs back in first months, and it was bad. Very bad.
You can tweak buffs to be something more interesting than + X % to exp/MF/gold/karma/WXP, sure. Things like “Armor don’t get damaged” “Upgrades and Yaks progresses faster” “Orange/White swords pops istantly when your structures are attacked”. Powerful but still in the field of “Utility”, not “Power”.
And the comparison with DaoC has little sense – manly because it wasn’t designed as a coverage war.
I thought you were refererring to Dev’s ears, which seems to be deaf to this forum lately.
Honestly I think the jump in difficulty between World 1 and World 2 is entirely appropriate for a game based on old-school platformers.
This.
/15charrs
Also my alts:
Greatsword Mesmer! – BIG weapon BIG damage!
Mr. Torque Short(2)bow Thief! – EXPLOSIONS!?
OT needed:
BDASS CRATER OF BDASSITUDE!
TORGUE: NOW WITH MORE CAPITAL LETTERS!
OT end.
Brazil’s sword build isn’t the highest DPS. He just doesn’t like GS because whirl can be inconsistent so he trades off some DPS for consistency. It’s not a bad build, it’s just not minmax every single point of DPS.
It’s manly matter of preference imo at this point.
Let’s not forget that the reason they took out the orb buff is because they were unable to deal with the blatant hacking, not because they thought it was unbalanced or made the mode less competitive.
Tbh i hoped that was an excuse.
Because we spent like the first 3 months in WvW asking to change/remove the orbs buff, which were only causing harder blowouts and snowballing already.
Iirc, the first “Swap orb buff with outmanned buff” suggestions popped already in betas.
20 months later or so, Anet is pushing foward with Bloodlust…
And easy access to tons of Vulnerability, with a Grenadier build (which is the one used for DPS, i guess – not updated to Engi DG meta, sorry).
It should be an obvious solution. Since you’ve all made it abundantly clear that GvGers form the vast majority of the WvW population -rolls eyes--, just make sure each of the servers has 1 borderland’s buff at a time. It shouldn’t be difficult to coordinate that amongst yourselves since so many more people GvG than don’t.
Requoting myself:
I think some ppl is missing the point of this complain/request.
Bloodlust as it is, with the old orbs buff, is not bad for GvG, roaming or fair fights only.
It’s bad for WvW as whole.
We had already Orbs back 1 year ago so it isn’t even speculation, we experienced it already: it just increase the strenght of the already winning server, leads to snowballing, and increases the gap in blowouts due to sheer coverage. That’s why it should be changed.
Ignore GvG. Ignore Roaming. Ignore fair fights between zergs.
Look at Bloodlust again.
Still wrong, stupid and uncalled.
The only time Anet bothered with Feedback threads has been for Ascended.
And those thread were more like “QQ about Ascended go here, don’t pollute rest of forum, we’ve decided already and don’t give a kitten about your opinion anyway.”
Just like Bloodlust.
But if Frostgorge/Orr have the most efficient trains, doesn’t it mean that it’s better to always farm there than to farm in other places?
Yes, but you could also pick up 10/20 friends/guildies/ppl and do it anywhere in tyria as long as you know well enough champ spots and find out a good rotation.
Not saying that would be on par, or better, or faster: but you can. Cof, back in the day, was the only thing outside selling Arah slots or flipping TP with a steady and decent profit.
Tbh now i prefer, as farm, get 4 friends and steamroll miscellaneous DG path. AC 1-3, CoE fullrun, SE 1-3, and so on…
I think some ppl is missing the point of this complain/request.

Before any Gvg/roaming/fair fights complain.
As far as “How to play WvW” is concerned:
While most sane people stopped caring about the score a year ago, some still cling to the notion that WvW is a competitive game type with PPT being the indicator of success or failure. You’ve seen them, the crazy people who want to hold a tower “for the tick,” as if matters. Those are the types who don’t like GvG.
This guys nailed it.
If WvW scoring/winning was an actual test of PvP tactical and fighting skill, then there wouldn’t be even GvG as whole.
But WvW, as designed by Anet, is a coverage siege and blobbing war, where pvp can be nearly completely avoided, pvp skill is irrilevant and tactic is dumbed down to “where i’ll take the zoneblob next”.
That is how WvW is designed? Fine, but it’s boring, siege and numbers are too much more important than pvp skill and as whole the mode is being ignored for too much time.
That’s why ppl started to do not care anymore of score, PPT, siege and objectives and focusing on fights, more balanced the better. That’s why GvG and roaming are so popular. That’s why having those getting gutted by Bloodlust is another blow to WvW – which as whole will suffer this newly introduced unbalance.
Or change the buff into something not stat based, like any brain-provided developer would do.

Hold 3 points in one BL, 5 in another BL and 1 in the third BL → 30% Exp (3 times 1 point held), 20% karma, 20% MF (2 times held 3 points), 10% Gold Find, 10% Wxp.
Hold 5 points on all BL’s →30% Exp, Karma, MF, Gold Find, Wxp.
Plus the stomp points.
Bam, everybody is happy.
^this.
Adding more objectives isn’t wrong per se. Actually, that would in fact help to spread out zergs.
The problem is the size of the map. BL’s are already too clumped, especially the 3 keeps (just think about Garri that is able to treb outer Bay wall), which are also the main points of the BL.
Adding more objectives in a already too small map and do not enlarge it will just make it worse. A zerg can go in the middle and steamroll any small scale groups within 2 min from any point of the map. Add to this that zergs will always be around the 3 keeps…
You can’t add all that stuff with current BL’s size. But devs said already that there are technical limits and maps are as large as possible already. Lowering the cap of pop per side would work, but also destroy entire communities and worsen the issue of queques (inbefore “Transfer away from stacked servers” – halving the cap pop woul make q’s appear almost everywhere – and you don’t really think that only top 6 servers has q’s right?).
If on top of that we consider that the buff is stat based, and outmanned is still useless-based…it’s a very bad thing for overall wvw imo.
Things to do/could be done:
-enlarge maps (as said, impossible)
-halve the cap pop per side of the maps BUT double the number of maps.
Aka every server have 2 BLs, but they hold 75 players instead of 150. Overall numbers of players do not change, but more maps will make zergs spread out much more (less ppl on single map)
-swap outmanned and bloodlust bonuses.
Outmanned will give you 50, 100 or 150 at all stats depening how hard are you outnumbered. bloodlust will now have 6 buffs (remember that there are 6 BL’s): +Exp, +Karma, +MF, +GoldFind, +WXP, armor don’t get damaged. you get all of them if you hold all 6 x3 shrines, only exp/karma/mf if you hold 3, and so on.
(Ofc can be adapted to work with 3 BL’s only, but this should really be done regardless of any change to number of maps.)
Didn’t check the math by myself, but so far looks like Zerk > Assassin in almost any situation and build/prof, at least in terms of raw dmg (the loss in power isn’t matched by the increased amount of crits).
Ppl who do all the 10 points in PvE daily + PvP daily everyday get burned out?
Really, i’m extremely surprised…. (not).
Agree with this here.
Guards are by far the most well – rounded and balanced class.
Yes, there are few issues here and there with traits, skills and a couple of weapons, but doesn’t change the situation.
Other classes are unbalanced, that’s it.
Also, it’s all matter of tradeoffs.
Mesmer have a lot of tools, decent dmg and utility, but a innate weakness to conditions and lacks of long term mobility.
Necros have DS + tons of HP conditions and CCs, but 0 stability and so-so cond removal.
(on paper)
And so on. In theory giving every class a “weak spot” built in makes counters part of the meta – see how Stun Wars made their way in pvp as natural counter to Necros.
If lack of soft CC and range is the guardian weak spot i’m fine with that, but then this means that the rest of the package must be on the level to have a chance even with those handicaps. Like Mesmers before this condition heavy meta – they were already weak to condis, but the prof was good enough to overcome that.
Actually compared to 6 months ago – Mes+Guard+War or gtfo – now every class have a build of two for “speedrunning”.
The problem is that
-pugs have usually a 3+ months delay in learning new stuff
-some classes are arguably easier to get working
For example, a LH ele does supreme DPS, on par – if not more most of the time – of the average warrior. But ppl will rarely get a LH ele in pugs party, compared to a zerk warrior. Why? Cause Warrior can be played by a blinded slowpoke and yet prove somewhat useful in terms of DPS (press 2 on GS, swap in Axe auto, repeat endless). That’s a bad warrior, yet for so little effort there is already a decent DPS.
A LH ele if you’re not good/careful enough will be flattened to the ground at the first error.
cof 1-2
coe1-2-3
ta FF UP
AC 1-2-3
arah 1-2-3
SE 1-3
Pretty much this (might add CM p3 and Honor p1 if you need to pair farming with getting those tokens).
General dungeoneering got a very nice boost in profiting from the “rewards revamp” patch.
If you don’t have a team or time for DGs, some meta events are always a good way to make some cash/mat and spend some free time.
Seeing as I’m constantly just regurgitating the same thing over and over again, I thought it would be better to centralise my build and similar ones in to one thread.
Oh, you finally got it.
:p
The Phantasm ruins the weapon – it’s horrible and it’s 50% of torch (2 skills).
For general/pugged/relaxed dungeoneering, Nemesis’s Hybrid (or any similar variation) would be my advice: versatile, decent in both direct and condition dmg, and quite flexible to play.
If you’re looking for straight up best dmg, look no further than spoj’s build.
VS why do you run from Piken constantly?
We had a zerg yesterday to counter your zergs (Was two of you) and our commander lead us to you and he said on TS “Why are they running?” you outnumbered us yet you still run?
Welcome to Vizuna.
Bronze invaders, Bronze invaders everywhere (if only PvD wouldn’t yeld any WXP, there wouldn’t be “Bronze” i guess)
/joke
Just saying, you can cast any Phantasm from range if you need to.
S/S + S/P build, for situations like Ashym that needs you to get out of meele for the FGS check, just pop your phants.
3 Duelist are better than a GS mesmer.
Burning Guardian builds hands down for me.
Ppl still associates WvW “GvG” with Gw1 “GvG” and use it as argument?
I don’t know which one Anet has hinted working towards to. I’d hope both kind.
The issue is:
WvW GvG is simply a deathmatch(another mode that could be added as whole), with large groups. Large groups brings on the table mechanics that on smaller scale simply doesn’t exists – like the ability to regroup, move compact, combo healing/buffs, bombing an area of the ground with well placed stun/CC/dmg and such – so can’t really compare to making a spvp-like arena 8vs8 maximum with deathmatch.
Gw1 GvG has surely more depth (you know, it’s made by devs while WvW GvG is made by guilds without any game/dev support), and it do have the perks to become that esport Anet is so much hunting for. But with the Gw2 (current) classes and combat system might be hard, even impossible, to port from Gw1 decently. Not really a balance issue, more a structural one – no real healing/prot classes, thus less need for all the baiting of Gw1 (to overextend a foe, to make monks run out of energy, to spike in 5 ppl the same target in 1/4 of sec), thus less tactical, thus too much fast-paced.
But get this in your head when talking about GvG: WvW GvG never pretended to take over or be the replacement of Gw1 one. It simply is the best possible guilds could come up with in Gw2 without the slighest help from Anet, which ignored them for a year or more. And they did in wvw cause spvp is only conquest (with idiotic cap points in the way).

Did AN promised to never add new gear tiers?
In 2013.
Does everyone live in some parallel universe where a single transfer away doesn’t cost 40-70 gold or 12-20€/$?
No we all live in same universe. Where the August Living Story additions have been literally a sequel of “Farm Me” events/areas/features.
Really, raising money has been so easy in latest 30 days that 70 gold are nothing.
Dont worry, knowing ANET they will open free transfers before the season starts
Now, that’s the only thing that they could do to make things worse.
Thus, sure 100%.
Can I get a full Trahearne body suit, face and all?
/troll
Trahearne combat tonic, i can already see that.
SoloQ – newbie unfriendly – bad balance – whatever other reason they say to me are only excuses.
The simple truth is that the game mode (conquest) is horrible.
Is not fun.
Is not good pvp.
It’s the only mode, even after a year.
And they persist in pushing it.
And, cherry on top, there is the huge elephant in the room of “Gw1 PvP” that makes spvp look even worse – a 7 years old game that blows out Gw2 under every aspect, on the pvp table.
Soldier gear is WvW stuff. Period.
As long as you’re looking to playing PvE, +1 on above posts.
Come on, i post in the wrong “WvW Leagues” thread and it’s the only one where i agree with the dev…
My facepalm ammo is running out, i should sto reading all the Dev responses at once.
Seafarer’s Rest is one of the most active English speaking servers.
Its a WvW/PvE orientated server.
SFR is heavy WvW oriented. And the WvW scene is full.
“The idea here is to look at recent WvW ratings and match up worlds in similar levels, with a gold league, a silver league, and so on.”
Considering that ratings are now worthless due to matchups with a random component, that’s quite amusing to hear.
I am a resident of Piken Square and unfortunetly, we’re totally screwed.
You’re not alone.
I’m on SFR, and the whole community is scared and hell.
You may ask, why?
Last time (march, addition of WXP) Anet opened free transfers (or pushed them in any way), our server really went on the edge of collapse due to people bandwagoning kitten SFR, risking to crumble. I know that sounds strange – how can you have problems if you get more players – but that’s how SFR is structured. The main strenght are guilds, if too many people gets in the way guilds can’t play, get bored, leave. And perfomance nosedive.
We really spent like…3 months only to recover and restore the internal balance. Latest 2 months proved that the server is back up again, playing consistently in T1/2 (random rolls) and last week we pulled off the victory on top of the ladder. And this match we’re close 2nd atm.
Another round of transfers, driven by the bandwagon “Want to win easy want to get rewards let’s go to best ranked EU (non FR/DE i mean) server” due to leagues, could really be a killer for the server.
That’s why people here are extremely worried.
