Recharge does not make them hit faster, haste makes them hit faster, recharge is the amount of time YOU can summon that phant again.

With 25 in illusion you can (should) pick both.

Why people use GS in dungeon:

1) reliable AoE a problem mesmer has

-a single phant every 20 sec is not going to change this. Also phant is AI thus unreliable – zerk can easily get killed before spinning. The auto is aoe but does a c*rap dmg, average at 1200 range.
Sword auto (and BF) cleaves. And hit much harder. Pair with focus for warden. AoE issue solved.

2) fast illusion spam (2)

-if you need a illusion spam pick DE. But if you’re running a phant build you don’t need either of them.

3) range….despite you are often melee sometimes range is needed

-technically you can meele everything. that said, even if you reall need range, duelist and swordsman alone are better than the whole GS package.

4) opener for burst

- ileap with aoe immobilize + BF is much better.

5) best single target attack when you need to pull

-everything with 1200 range works for pulling.

6) nice pushback

-intothevoid > GS push

7) cripple

-sword has aoe immobilize.

If its true that in some situation you’d like to have another OH weapon like a pistol or a sword…when you want versatility you go GS.

How about no. Gs versatility is minimal – average dmg at range, under 1200 become c*rap. The 2nd skill bounces are unpredictable thus unreliable for might. 3rd skill is useless in 99% of situations. like 5th. as said already, GS is iZerk and nothing more.

People get twiligt/eternity as legendary also because they like the skin and they don t need to be unique to be beautiful.
Also using a GS on a light class is fun.

Both of this things doesn’t have any impact on GS effectiveness tho, which is what we’re talking about.

Bolt on the other hand seems more a mace than a sword….doesn t appeals much to a caster class while a blade of “space” or “sky” is way more fitting for people tastes.

But Bolt is a sword, thus better than Twilight/Sunrise, cause they’re GS.

How good is a weapon look is a personal opinion, and has nothing to with a weapon real effectiveness – has no place in this dicussion.

Nah, probably would have been introduce a completely out of lore, exploitable/soloable and lime limited LS istance with a chest at the end with a 0,000 – snip for lenght – 00001% chance to drop a minipet to sell at stratosferical prices.

Ascended Gear to Kill Builds and Alts?

The difference between Exotic and Ascended is incredibly minor…

First: the difference between a single exotic piece and a single ascended piece is minor indeed. When you start to add first 2 rings then 2 accessories and so on with 1 amulet, 1 backpack, full armor and the weapons, gaps keep getting wider. Also, for the weapon in particular there is a bump in “Weapon strenght” too, which added to increased stats means that ascended weapons are that “little” better of exotics twice. Also, upping stats of 5% doesn’t mean upping dmg of 5%. It’s more. (compare rare/exo)

Second: gear with stats, which have a direct impact on your character build effectiveness, was already a hinderance to alts and build liberty with exotics. Trinkets made it a pressing and glaring issue. Now things keep getting worse. You will need 2 weeks for a single weapon, which doesn’t sounds too bad. Then you realize that on average every class has 5 to 10 different weapons, including the need to double some of them for dualwield. That you can’t change the stats so your build using a certain weapon will be set on that. That if anet sweeps and nerf the c*rap out of a weapon, you can’t even pass it to another char able to use it better. That thinking of gearing out more than 1 char in ascended weapon is just a mirage.

Third: there is still no words about keeping skins of current weapons. Forcing players to buy Tstones for it. Not cool at all.

Fourth: RNG involved in the (account bound) mats gathering. Salvaging exotics. I was literally speechless.

Fifth: …well i’ll stop here, feels so much wasted time and typing (manly cause anet has set this and nothing will change it). Could go on. But will not…

10/30 in Zeal/Radiance is the starting point for DPS builds. RHS + Fiery Wrath are too good to pass off.

The last 30 pts are totally up to you, how much you want to unbalance towards dps or tankyness, what your team needs, and so on.

Sword DPS Build

Sword DPS is in auto, not 3rd skill – it hits for less than the 3 hit full chain.

One of the reasons to prefer Sword to GS is that GS burst, Wirlwind Wrath, launches the damaging projectiles with a 360°. Unless you’re casting it from inside the enemy hitbox, the dmg isn’t impressive. Ofc, when you do, dmg will ramp up quite a lot, but that makes it unreliable anyway.

Also, GS auto is bad for a DPS standpoint, so even with a 100% times perfect WW Sword is better imo cause can hit like a truck costantly, not once every 10 sec. Which makes it benefiting more from a TW.
It’s the same comparison between HBlades and Axe auto attack. With the difference that HB is much more reliable.

Discord is a good build for players new to HM, learning the ropes of HM mobs and Vanquishing.

Personally i don’t like it, and i think it has some serious limits in some areas – it was back at 3 heroes only tho – but it did come in handy to learn.

Once you’re confident enough in your knowledge of the game, i think that customizing your team and builds for your playstyle is the way to go.

buff the guardians health and power, I mean my firends warrior does like 20k damage and the other firends norn has 20k health. compared to my guardian human……

Race has nothing to do with stats.

As far as dmg goes, warriors are built for that, and that’s the only thing they’re very good at, so it’s totally fine in my book.

Guard’s hp are fine too. Warrior have 20k hp, but no protection, blind, passive regen (virtue), aegis, heal on roll, active regen (boon), aoe blind istant cast, c*rapload of blocks/invuln…

Guardians are much more durable than Wars even with 8k hp less.

But overall yes, they’re a huge PITA to get.

I got lucky (made my Juggy lately) cause prices crashed down to 40s for a couple of days after champ update, bought them there. Now they’re high again.

Overall, i know it’s not nice and it’s the obvious solution but….farm gold and buy them.
Seriously, the drop rate of those, from every source, is too low, to farm them by yourself.

How to balance an unbalanced game:

Side note: There is this thing called “Mechanically broken.” What that means is that whatever mechanic you’re looking at is fully incapable of being sufficiently balanced. It will either always be too strong or always be too weak unless it is mechanically changed.

They tried to make it so that there was minimal cost to overlapping conditions and IMO created something that was mechanically broken because of this. In most situations you had to make sure you were making the most of the skill set you had and there were some marginal cost to your actions, the current condition mechanics mostly removed that marginal cost.

In GW1 you had to be intelligent to spread pressure with conditions, not just a button masher. For a matter of fact, it was one of the most important jobs of a good 8v8 ranger at stand (During balanced-ish build eras ofc). If you could keep poison on 3-4 people you were causing significant pressure which would cause the prot to start to overcast their RC and leave them open to easy shutdown. This would be followed by the ranger swapping to a short bow and going on a poison spread frenzy and the warriors pushing the midline hard. The mesmer would sit on the heal and a spike would go off soon and most likely result in a kill.

Of course, if that sort of intelligent play is overlooked… you get someone who is benefited by just sitting and auto attacking.

About this – and the whole “Why Gw1 PvP was better – Why we don’t have deathmatch or GvG” argument i’m thinking, lately, that it’s something very related to the removal of Monks or, in general, of the healer.

I’m deeply against trinity, both for pvp and for pve. I was kinda hyped by the no trinity approach of Gw2. But after 1 year, it looks like the solution is worse than the problem – see DG meta being 5 DPS and rest is trash, see PvP where Devs can’t go further than Conquest mode and Damage is simply out of whack.

The Gw1 model, with a non prof-locked DPS/CC role, absence of “tank” profession and presence, only one forced and similar to a traditional trinity, of the healer, was perfect, at the end. Both for pve (not forcing in the usual trinity) and pvp (see below).

GvG/HA teams always had 2 monks as standard. Prot and Heal. This thing alone means that anybody of the other 6 player on the field was a though nut to crack and kill, regardless of skills and profession, as long as they’re in range of Monks (and they have energy/room for react). Things like Infuse Health, Prot Spirit, WoH, and so on has always been in place with a single mission: save the a** of somebody near to death and under heavy fire – in 1/4 of sec casting time.
Due to that, you had to bait heals, lure enemy positioning and coordinate 4/5 ppl to spike at same time for scoring a single kill. As long as there were monks in range, with energy, no pressure, skills off CD and your spike was slower than half a sec, the chances to kill anybody were slim.
That made automatically combat needing much more field/positioning awareness and much more tactical regarding splitting your group, movements, attacking or retreating in/from a base.
Also, because it forced a slower pace, where every move was visible and counters moves between teams much more thought out.

Here, pace is too fast, dmg is too high. And on top of that, there is nobody that can counter them by effectively save your back. Period.
There isn’t anybody to bait/rupt, cause there isn’t anybody with proper healing/protting to watch out. There isn’t anything to make overcast, cause there is no energy. There is nobody to be aware of position, cause there isn’t a Monk you’re getting too far. There is just the dmg. And you don’t even need a split second coordinated spike like in Gw1 to hope kil..ehm, downing somebody.

Sure, there are dodges to take in account, but the depth is on complete different levels.

This means that anything like deathmatch mode or tactical modes like Gvg/HA are just unpraticable. DM would become a “spike first” race. GvG/HA wouldn’t work, at all.

And all of this reflects as said in PvE too, with a extremely swallow design of bosses/DGs.

Ofc, the whole issue is so radicated that probably will be part of Gw2 till the end, so this whole talk might be just theorycrafting or nostalgia, on top of personal opinion.

Seriously, getting rid of it would need a work comparable to the “redoing” of the game that FFXIV did. Rebalancing every single prof, adding maybe another one with the function of main “healing” class, doing a 180 on a couple of points…
Not going to happen.

Just like a decent pvp as GvG/HA were.

It has been done due to a beta bug/exploit they preferred to workaround this way rather than fix it directly.

In first BWEs you could drop curtain and then go trough it back and forth getting every time the full application of swiftness. Needless to say stacking alone with a single skill in a istant a minute+ of swiftness isn’t really the definition of “working as intended”.

Since then they made such TC doesn’t apply the boon if you have swiftness already in order to prevent this exploit.

Robert has been the only dev who really sat with players. Like going to ranger forums, talking, exposing, discussing. Same for DG forums, back in the days there was a DG team.

Anet should hire like 15 Robert, not lay off (? unsure, only rumors seems here) the only one you had.

The classical list:

- GvG

- Guild Halls

- Elite Dungeons (UW, FoW, DoA, Deep, Urgoz)

- Templates

- Elite skills being the centerpiece of your build, not the “I’ll take the least terrible one” skill you just HAVE to take

- The build system

- Being rewarded for difficult content more than for mindless farming

- More and better armors

- Dyeable weapons

Thing I miss the most?
The team that worked on Guild Wars.. (not just the head guys)

The developers and their mentality.

And this 2 too.

Adding in:

- Team sinergy

- Reward and gear system in toto

- PvP modes

- The class roles. Monk/Ritu were designated healer, but then every other class was free and able to play different roles. I hate trinity, i don’t like play healer, but Gw1 soft one was good. Gw2 is against classic trinity, i’m ok with it, but afterall the removal of the entire thing (including a system like “only designated healer” of Gw1) has turned out to be worse than the problem. No healer = swallow bosses, no gvg/deathmatch pvp cause dmg atm is out of control, thus they resorted to conquest mode, overall lack of depth in gameplay.

- Many other small QoL things. Like not having to worry about stats on a item and buying Tstones for using your favourite skins. Not being hampered by those items in experimenting new builds. Etc…

GW2 The First Year

Long short story:
-game launched too early, regardless of all the “When it’s ready claims”.
Not only bugs, but overall design of some areas of the game (DGs, WvW) have/had a very noticeable rushed or uncompleted feeling. On the other hand the launch time has been perfect from a marketing standpoint – over this year no decent/fearsome MMOs launched. MoP was catering a different audience to begin with, and the only MMO lanuched in past 12 months has been Neverwinter, which isn’t anything special. Also, i guess they rushed August on purpose to have Sept to sort out game stability and then start pushing with events with Halloween/Wintersday combo. I guess delaying the game would have meant skipping at very least to Jan to keep that couple toghether.

-game overall have a GREAT potential. But too many good things have been scrapped from GW1. Some design choices turned out backfiring into a worse solution than what they meant to resolve(i hate trinity with passion. Gw1 soft trinity – healers on 2 set classes, everybody else is nearly free – was perfect to me. was quite hyped about the 0 trinity of GW2. But now it turned out in something worse, especially pve wise.). Some issues lies in very early game building decisions(who is the “genius” who decided to utilize Gw1 engine instead of a modern and better optimized/coded one?).

-and on top of that, devs failed to deliver post launch imo. Playerbase has been hardly listened(Wxp accbound? PTR?). Some bugs are still around since BWE1. Balancing around tpvp hurts the rest of the game, badly (and even in tpvp balance isn’t good at all). After some tries they simply dropped the ball over permanent content, at least so far in 2013 – just look at DGs, had Fotm in November, AC revamp months ago, then DG team got cut away in favor of LS. And i think everybody agrees that DGs are far from polished and balanced decently enough to do not need a dedicated team.

At the end, ppl still play (and still post here, even if not playing anymore or with a angry attitude) cause the game is not bad. But you can see what it could have been. Much, much bigger and better, 360°.

“Wasted potential” makes ppl much more angry than a simply “bad game”.

Tbh i think guardian are the most well rounded profession.

If it gets so few patch bullets it’s because most of the class is already alright, compared to the glaring issues of some others.

That said, there are surely areas to improve.
-Scepter, manly auto, is still a weak point
-Zeal trait line is still bad imo, except fiery wrath and some symbol build gimmicks
-Honor trait line is still “AH line and pick the least bad traits in 10 and 20” – usually Purity/StrenghtinNumbers/Retributive Armor – where instead in Honor there are too many good traits for those only 3 slots!
-Shouts as utility still trumps 90% of other skills, except when you need reflects (WoR/SoA).
-Elite tomes could use a look.

Twilight band Sunrise.
First: they’re ugly. Second, the eccessive cluttering of the screen due to the multitude of unnecessary flashy effects is just annoying.

Dreamer si not my cup of tea – i liked it 1000 times more when arrows were simple band plain rainbows…now that shoot ponies, look ridicolous.

So, suggesting to wait, may in fact be counterproductive advice.

Just like the opposite.

Atm things are just unknown so it’s a 50/50 guess – everybody has his opinion, but ultimately as long as nothing is known about actual process it’s all speculation.

Just saying, 3/9 patch will introduce the lvl 500 craft.

Which is the base on top of Anet said they’re going to build the “craft your precursor”.

If you’re looking at a legendary, i’d simply wait. In 3-4 months you will probably have a way to get your Dusk trough craft.

And, even if you don’t want to mess with it, the simple addition of the feature itself will make demand drop a LOT, followed by prices.

Well, at least on paper. I guess that the mat list/cost will be the matter making prices drop or stay.

You’re not the first to speculate on this… I just keep finding it amusing how optimistic these predictions are.

What if crafting a precursor is time gated to take 250days (just throwing that out there) – one ingredient you can only get one of per account per day. Now, chuck on a bunch of otehr t6/t7 mats that add a gold barrier.

Suddenly the TP may not look like such a bad option….

If Anet makes too much bothersome to craft precursors then market will be unaffected, both in good and bad sense.
If they make them too cheap or easy to get then there would be no reason to go TP, making the whole rarity of precursors silly.

Also, take in account that any mat involved in the craft of precursors might spike up in price, thus affecting much more markets aside precursors one.

It’s matter of balance.

Not all end bosses are DPS races.

Doesn’t change the fact that all the 3 paths ends up with a immobile crit immune boring giant tree.

And zergrushing is no longer a very valid strategy with the need to ooc to wp.

Ofc, but a lot of them are still placed with that in mind. CoE or Arah have some glaring examples of this.

Clarification on ascended weapons

So for you changing stats on a weapon is the same as having a free dodge on swap (energy) or stacking 250 extra power/prec/cond/heal (bloodlust/perception/corruption/life) or triggering might/fire burst/lighting strike/condition removal on crit (strength/fire/air/generosity) or getting 1k hp back for enemy killed (restoration)?
In exchange for +5 power and little bump on stats?

Reread my post. It’s a bad idea.

(and those are just first examples that cross my mind)

Is the design that allows/encourages it.

-completion achievement on failure. This has surely made to avoid the cries “Omg this map too difficult to get can’t have my achievement change it please!”, which is a welcomed thing at first glance, but also takes away all the motivation to actually succeed, and thus partecipate/contribute to this events.

-map wide rewards. Get in, do a couple of events to have the tagged reward, wait till rest of map do the job. Meanwhile..

-events spawned mobs. If you don’t care of failing/succeding (cause you get reward and achi anyway) everything left is farming champs by zerging the c*ap out of the events. It’s the least effective way to succed the event but as said, ppl prefer it cause champs = loot. Even after the tweak at spawn rate.

“· Legendary Weapon Updates: Legendary weapons will receive a stat boost, an Offensive Infusion slot to align with new Ascended weapons and additional functionality, among other things.” preview from Kotaku.

Personally I think it is a good idea, it forces players to choose between sigil and extra damage. It is sort of like the green weapons in guild wars 1, technically better but kittenter because you could not modify.

First, it’s not a good idea at all. Builds are already enough unimaginative for most profs and people, and sigils are a nice fine-tuning that helps to add a layer of choices.

Second, in the case of Legendaries, it’s forced, not a choice, to go with Ascended power level.

Third, i see the screenshot of ascended rifle. Aside any observation on the skin itself (not too bad but not my cup of tea)…. I makes me think the recipes will probably create complete weapons. So…what about keeping the skins of my current equipment? I’ll be forced to get a crapload of T-stones from Cash Shop? Or there will be the option to craft a “upgrade to ascended stat” item to apply at my exotics? Anet clarify please.

Isn’t TA one of the better dungeons at the moment? The bosses need to reset and there’s too much skipping but other dungeons have those sorts of problems and more besides. Why aren’t the other dungeons better targets for a revamp?

TA does have its flaws tho.

End bosses are more or less all the same: DPS race the immobile object. That shuold be first thing to be changed imo, for a “real” boss.

WP’s are still placed oddly – but that is a issue shared across a LOT of DG paths – with the zergrushing in mind.

Some trash mobs could use few tweaks.

But i do agree that TA is not in a bad shape.

WvWers will be extremely kitten ed off getting the maps filled both of non pvp-elements and of players do not contributing to the fights in order to do those pve things.

TA is high on the list of dungeon candidates as our permanent dungeon revamp/updates begin to start back up again as themes for some of our living world releases.

Aka: if we ever do a silvary LS we might think to drop few ppl to fix TA. Like AC. 7 months ago.

If map size doesn’ change (and it won’t) those 5 points will be way too close each other imo.

Cluttering the map, increasing the density of cap points (and thus players) instead of spreading them. So those might be even counterproductive in that sense.

I guess it’s way too early to tell tho. But i’m not very confident.
