This is not meant as a brag, just a little update.
My ranger has now gained equivalent 20 more lvls still 0 deaths. got just over 50% map exploration. last one i completed was Frostgorge sound and even did Jormag event! Ofc, she’s fully geared in exotics now and that gave me confidence i could handle the event.

Edit: ugh correction, just checked she’s actually done 60% world completion yay! hehe

100% map exploration without dying would be pretty epic.

Right now I need round about 300g and I just want to know what’s the best way to make this money WITHOUT running a dungeon over and over and over again until your brain melts and drips out of your ears like pudding.

What makes it a great MMO, is an f2p system that is not an obnoxious pile of crap.

GW2 does have a few positives, however, it has a long ways to go before being considered a “great” MMO. As for it being F2P, well, simply because it’s F2P does not automatically mean it’s F2P done right. This pretty much sums up GW2’s F2P model.

That video actually has nothing to do with GW2’s F2P model. That’s exactly why I think it’s great. If the game is still profitable with this model, it’s f2p done right.

I think that the impatient benefit (because of the smaller spread) and the patient suffer (because of the smaller spread).

That’s incorrect. The reality is that both receive a more or less equal price, which is a more fair outcome.

It’s rather hypocritical to complain about flippers “leeching”, and then support the interests of only one of either patient or impatient players.

Going to Orr alone is not a good way to make money. Join a raid that clears Orr temples instead.

Certain champions give you a guaranteed rare drop once per day (for example the Fire Elemental in the Maguuma jungle). Kill them and sell the rares.

Guild missions give you 50s each every week (5 missions total). There are guilds that let you jon them just to participate in guild missions.

Dungeons give you a nice amount of silver at the end of them.

Dailies give you laurels that you can spend on Unidentified Dyes or crafting mats, which you can sell.

While doing all that you’ll also gather other sellable stuff.

Queensdale – 6 champions
Fields of Ruin – 13 champions
Malchor’s Leap – 8 champions
Cursed Shore – 12 champions
Lots of areas – 5-6 champions

You have got to be misreading..
Champs, events, vets.. You only mention Champs (and indeed, I know Fields holds more than QD)..

There are plenty of champs, events AND vets in other areas.

Playing the game instead of grinding the same crap actually works.

How often to the champs spawn in those other areas? Curious to know because in Queensdale there’s a champ up pretty much every 5 minutes, which is what the point of this is.

Who cares? By the time you kill one, something else will be up.

Let think to this.
1)You agree that narket flipping actually rewards too much?
2) how comes open world bosses, dungeons, events and stuff get NERFED when they are too rewarding while market is not?

Don t you see the disparity between playing the market and playing the game?
I don t think any farmer can get near 10.000 Gold.

Ok think about this: a hundred players send me 10g each as a gift (pretty please?). I suddenly gain 1000g.

Would you consider it to be unfair to anyone? Does gifting gold reward too much? Because frankly, I didn’t work to get the 1000g as much as farmers. People simply decided to allow me to get the gold.

Does that mean that we should limit the amount of gold that people can give me?

No, because there’s no actual damage to the economy by the gifts. Gold simply changes hands, and becomes mine. Similarly, gold simply changes hands and ends up in flippers’ pockets.

AntiGw.9367

Your analogy is TERRIBLE.

Flipping earns more money simply because less people do it. Similarly, farming T1 mats doesn’t earn much simply because everyone and his grandmother kills mobs all the time.

Minimal competition in flipping – more profit for flipping. Lots of competition in farming – less profit from farming.

There is no need to balance flipping with anything, this is completely unlike class balance. Most people believe that doing stuff is more fun than sitting on tp all day – their reward is measured in fun and some loot. Flippers want to get rich, so they flip – their reward is measured in gold.

no flipping earns more money because flipping rewards people based on how much money they have. competition can lower the % gains, but over time any % gain system that can take% of its own gains will always eclipse one that has a set amount.

would you rather get 5 dollars a day for a month, or would you rather get 1 penny the first day and double your total each day.
the answer is the penny.

As long as you are making any profit at all, over time you will eventually surpass and destroy a linear earner.
even at 1% a day, you will eventually obliterate some one who can only earn X gold an hour over time.

flipping is a playstyle, this idea that people should suffer to succeed in a game is a bad one. Succeeding at a game is supposed to be fun, they are supposed to reinforce each other.

Flipping is work. The idea is not that one should suffer, but that one should earn gold in exchange for some of his time. You can sit on tp for a month, or you could find a job and convert your paycheck into gems-gold instead.

In the end the result is the same. You get tons of gold for doing things unrelated to the game. This is how the game was always supposed to work.

Raids are fights that require large amounts of players in top-level gear.

They are basically boring routines, where each player is standing and rhythmically pushing buttons.

Failing to push a button at the precisely the right moment leads to a wipe. Apparently that makes these fights “intense”.

yes, this is what i realized many people here believe, find the best way to do something and do it a lot and well. problem is that type of game design doesnt fit well with a game that wants players to have real choices.

You dont really believe in balance.
Warrior OP for dungeon? play warrior if you do a dungeon
Guardian OP in SPVP play a guardian if you want to spvp
TP flipper OP for wealth earning, play the tp if you want money.

the designers though cant be satisfied with that ideaology for this game though, i just wonder if they even realize that

Your analogy is TERRIBLE.

If your solution for balancing an APEX PREDATOR is that everyone should be an apex predator, then you dont have a balance.

There’s no solution needed because there’s no problem.

Most people obviously don’t think that the gold they can get by flipping is worth the time spent. Thus people that do that are rewarded accordingly highly.

Everyone ultimately plays the way he wants.

AntiGw.9367

I think you missed the point here, the whole flipper thing isnt about whether they offer anything to the game or are a legitimate playstyle. The issue is, tp flipping can make much higher money than any other playstyle, not only that, but the gains are heavily related to how much capital you generate, which means the more money you get, the more money you can get. (i understand there are limits, but these are so far out of the range of other gold earning abilities as not to be relevant in comparing the two)

The tp lets you make as much money as you can make, nothing else in the game does this.

So the problem becomes one of poor distribution of wealth favoring one playstyle. Im sure many say, then people should just adopt that playstyle, but this is not a game that was sold as great economic simulator, its supposed to be an adventure.

Either find a way to limit the growth of wealth through tp play, or come up with a way to give other playstyles the ability to earn wealth.
I would prefer the latter, but i figure it might be hard because gold obtained in other ways is usually created, while tp wealth is redistributed.

I could brainstorm of possible ways, but it would dilute the post.

essentially, its bad for the game to reward one playstyle more than others, especially a playstyle that is niche to the genre.

Flipping is naturally limited by available competition. It doesn’t let you make a lot of money if there are enough competitor flippers.

As long as people are not willing to sit in front of the NPC and flip, the existing flippers will make more money than people that do other activities. As soon as the number of flippers increases, the profit made by any individual flipper is naturally reduced.

The system is working fine.

^ That’s true enough, Ursan, but we should also remember that for many players, they play games to get AWAY from that kind of inequality. Video game worlds are supposed to be a place where you can be someone you aren’t, where the playing field is (more or less) equal and everybody can have fun. If you’re someone who’s stuck in a dead-end job where people who earn much more than you can basically treat you like crap all day, do you really want to come home and log into a world where wealthy players are also doing their best to concentrate wealth in their own hands so they can also look down on you and show off all the nice things you’ll never have?

And on the flipside, if you’re a poor player in real life who wants to become rich in-game so you can gloat over poorer people, shame on you for missing the point. :P

There’s always inequality in every single game, you can’t get away from it.

In GW2 inequality is purely cosmetic. Owning mountains of gold simply means that you’ll look better than someone else. That is fully intentional design.

Few people will ever reach the top sPvP or WvW level. Few people will unlock certain skins. Few people will have certain minis. Few people will earn all achievements.

Should we start handicapping decent sPvP players because you want to get away from situations where someone is better than you? A certain movie where that’s exactly what people do comes to mind.

The thought of actually posting to ensure a sale (becuase of a duration limit) will tighten the profit margin of flippers.

It will not tighten any profit margin. It will tighten the amound of items people will be willing to supply, instead of salvaging or vendoring for a guaranteed tiny profit.

A guaranteed profit, that is much higher with the system we currently have in place.

So much for the ‘the rewards are irrelevant, we want challenge!’ folks.

Has anyone actually been saying that? I read a ton of people saying they want to overcome a challenge in order to get a reward (as opposed to RNG)

People have been saying both…

People ask for challenging content. Challenging content is added, then comes along the next whiner crowd and complains that the challenging content doesn’t reward well enough for the required effort. Then the loot is buffed, and the next crowd complains that the content is too challenging, and they shouldn’t be forced to do it to get the reward.

Limit postings to specific duration. You pay 5% to post, if it hasn’t sold in 2 days your post is removed, the item returned to you, and you lose the 5% fee. The duration in this example is arbitrary (could be 2 days, 3 days, 5 days, whatever).

There’s a good reason this is in effect in other games.

You’ll see TP prices drop for items — especially high end items like legendaries and precursors which can cost 20 to 60 gold just to post.

That would not have the effect you think it would.

As far as flippers are concerned, they would simply shift towards different types of items than what they resell right now.

Crafting mats prices would increase, not decrease. Blue/green/yellow gear would have their prices increased, and some of them would become unsellable. “Increased”, compared to what we have right now.

High end item prices would not be affected. People would simply trade even more of them on black market, as they already do quite successfully.

As far as narrowing the price gap? Yeah. They do that. But the end result is only minutely lower sell orders and much higher buy orders.

Much higher than what exactly?

Higher than some arbitrary price that you think is fair?

They are simply ways to get a few additional gear pieces without spending gold.

42.000 karma buys you a level 80 exotic item, saving you 2-3 gold pieces. Don’t hesitate to spend some as you level though, you’ll get more than enough later. You can also buy all gathering tools with karma, which also saves you a bit of gold.

35-40 laurels buys you a level 80 ascended ring/amulet. Save these. Also guild commendations that you can get from guild missions.

TO A GOOD HOME

And why would anyone sell their stuff for less money than the regular market offers?

Is your idea based on the expectation that people will do that to be nice to each other? There are several political and economic models that tried that approach, and it didn’t exactly work very well.

Maybe they could limit sell listing. Some other game limit the number of listing you can put on the trading post.

Say for example you can only sell at most 20 item listed on the trading post. But it’ll also become really annoying if you are just a normal player and trying to sell more than 20 item.

They do limit sell listing already.
