I dont need to alter the Client to make this happen, i can alter the signal my OS sends to the client to make it happen. The client would not be modified. Look into “AutoHotKey”, for instance.
I want to change it because it is not optimal for pvp engagements, and it offers little value to me in pve. In pvp the lag and limited range for the “Auto Attack” feature to trigger makes it so that it is much more optimal to bash the “1” key than to use the auto attack feature. Thus since LMC+RMC makes me move forward wich is of no use to me, i would much rather have that replaced with triggering an attack.
As a melee player I could much rather the “leftclick+rightclick” combination of buttons forced the number 1 skill in addition to camera control rather than walking forward, that is what WASP is there for.
So is it legal to redefine this events on a software/os lvl?.
I actually like Necro but defensively but only if you go Minion Master. In fact i find it this is mostly true for the couple of classes that work with some semblance of a more defensive build. Those are the one that the defensive traitlines have some indirect offensive. Like engis, they def traits work because they get indirect sinergy with their turrets which in turn are offensive.
Guardians on the other hand 2 of their grand master traits are brute stats in the form of plain vit or +15% crit. The honor trait line sucks, you get no major game changer, no direct impact stats (in a stats starved class) and you need it for the +boon duration, that is a HUGE investment for a class that is mostly melee oriented and is starved for vitality power crit and ferocity.
I would venture it is for most, and that offensive builds do better than defensive ones in general.
I think that the problem comes from the fact that when you sacrifice stats/traits/skills to go defensive you take a disproportionate hit to you offensive capabilities.
In my ideal scenario, when you go say celestial with sustain skills, through your gaming skills and stats you should be able to outlast or at least make it an even fight against all out offensive builds.
In practice what really happens is that you take such a hit to your offensive power that most offensive builds out there can simply heal through your damage and the defensive capabilities you gain are nowhere near enough to stave off a couple of crits from the all out builds.
The number one complain i hear from “commentators” analising GW2 as a potential E-Sport has mostly been the same, “you see a couple of flashes and boom somebody is dead”. This is created by the situation stated above, you get a couple of 1 shot skills that deny damage, aka blind, aegis, blocks, most of them on a fairly long CD making them mostly 1 shot skills for a reasonably length fight and after those are gone, players essentially evaporate.
In my ideal scenario, Celestial would be used as a benchmark on how well does offense vs defense fare. But it has been a long time since any semblance of balance like this was implemented in this game.
There are also skills that plain dont make sense. You simply cant have reactionary skills that have longer cast times than the skills they are supposed to react against. aka necros Hount from the Shadow Fiend.

To answer your initial question, you can expect more balance ahead. With the Revenant and specializations in addition to rebalancing the base professions, there is a lot of balancing coming up. What that means for pvp in terms of the meta is anyone’s guess. Anet knows what the current pvp meta is, it’s up to them which direction they want to take it. My guess is they’ve been holding out on the bigger changes to class balance since they are packaging a lot of things for the expansion. Though, your opening statement makes me think you were expecting something specific out of build diversity. Mind elaborating?
More in the lines of a paradigm shift. Many people have stated that Healing power is a worthless stats, and that is true, but mostly because all defense is next to useless in this game, save some very key very 1 shot things like aegis or blocking, but skills that should be viable like shouts and meditations dont really work for its intended porpuse, they dont heal you, nowhere near the damage you could do or increase if you just went full offensive. Vitality is another stat many consider useless and favor yet more offense over it.
There is a clear direction here, where you should forgo defense in favor of offense, and my personal distaste for it aside, it is clear this kind of meta has not resonated with the player population at large, given the sorry state(participation) of pvp in an mmo that is a direct successor to a pvp focused game.
PvP highly rewards the cookie cutter builds, you can take all the deffensive traits and skill in the world and they wont make up for the offensive power you are loosing. Can we expect a new direction in HoT?.

I’m all for changing the skills. But it needs to be done wisely and it needs to be done so we dont have another 6 months of inbalanced god-mode classes
As long as we agree the skills need changing and the rooting gone, im up for a careful approach, that is why the thread is here, for all we know HOT is months away. This is the time to rework the skills and make conducive to the general game design instead of work against it.

What will the game suffer from when these skills no longer have a root?
Nothing much, HB does good damage assuming you could hit anything with it, but on average GS does terrible damage. Blurred Frenzy does terrible damage as well as Sword for Mesmer. You deal with it the same way you deal WW, you give it something like 80% move speed and you dodge out of it, no thing new under the sun, you could even adjust its damage.
Also, on average all the warriors channeled skills do crap damage, because they are meant to rise adrenaline not kill your opponent.

PvE does not need balance of any kind, much less one that has like 0 impact thanks to the artificial stupidity of the pve mobs.

Fought a hammer/gs warrior in pvp yesterday on my engy… Needless to say, the high risk/high reward play is DEFINITELY viable…
Ok, so you cant doge, run no elixir, no CC and cant seem to avoid a the hammer telegraphed stun. So what is your point exactly?

Or I might have noticed most good players lead with a root before firing it.
What i have noticed is that some terrible players that run, no stability, condition cleansing or move impairing removal of any kind, some times run out of stability and fall for it…
You might argue that the Ranger rapid fire doesn’t root you but it also only does at best half the damage a full HB does.
The problem with that logic is that there is no such thing as a “full HB” in pvp, not when you can take 3 steps and be out of it.
If you repeatedly get caught by HB, Blurred frenzy and their ilk, you might just consider that pvp is simply not your thing.
Sure, self-rooting can go… but the skill’s damage will drop to about 1/3 of what it is now.
ArenaNet attaches a HUGE effectiveness co-efficient to self-rooting skills. Modest risk nets monumental rewards…
I think that is reasonable, that would at least make it useful for something other than cleaving downed invisible thiefs…

They are contrary to the core game design that is fluid movement and quite frankly not that good over all, they need their self rooting thing removed.
They put a lot of effort into this
Really? i actually dont think Anet put any effort at all in spvp, since day one. It has been the least popular mode since lunch and you have the same 5 maps you had since. I mean, maps people, it chump change for anet to sit down a couple of artists and a programer and release a new map every couple of months, yet the game mode that needs support the most is the one that gets the least.
Spvp and pvp in general need
-Reduced particle effects.
-UI customization options, full moding alas WOW.
-Needs to slow down a lot.
-Needs to bring the trinity back.
-Needs casts bars.
Any profession played well is difficult to beat. I think you may have seen more necros/eles/mesmers in the past few days because those professions were available as “daily win” professions.
Difficult to beat, certainly, overpowered and frustrating to play against, not so much.
GW1 did for starters, and this game inherited a good size of its player base, which it later squandered ofcourse.

Dont need them, played it and saw it with my own eyes. Besides “higher” and less than a third of your player base on a sequel to a pvp oriented game should tell you something.
Tequatl simply unplayable. Same goes for spvp.
Random map not so much.
Ranked, it has better track reward than unranked, in fact there is no point in playing unranked. The only exeption would be if the game this or any other, had an important and significant ranked scene such as lol, and you already had a higher rank and wanted to fool around. This game has no important or significant ranked scene and you have no ranking thus no point.

My Conclusion
I’m saying that stronghold will be the downfall of GW2 PvP for the following reasons. First, it doesn’t appeal to competitive PvPers, yet so far there has heavy emphasis on stronghold and nothing on conquest for the future. If this comes to fruition, it will alienate the top and drive them away. Second, stronghold’s more rigid roles and hodgepodge of mechanics has all the foundations very toxic PvP environment (described previously). If that does happen, it turns away the casual players it’s aiming to recruit.The best thing that can happen is that Stronghold serves a way to get new players into PvP and prepare them to advance into conquest.
You cant kill something that is already dead, the % of people in this game that does pvp y very marginal, the % that does pvp “seriously” even less so. As you mentioned pvp as it stands its a mess of particles and button mashing. It is likely arena net figured it was time to do or die on the pvp and their wishful esport front.

That is in no small part why many people dislikes pvp in this game.

At least the devs are tracking that it is suboptimal as they have tried to buff it recently with shorter cooldowns, but that is still not enough.
I think their reduced cd on shield was just a placebo effect, same for the other classes complaining about their traits and skills, they got a cd reduction as well. I think Anet likes where shield is currently…
I’d be perfectly fine with #4 doing 0 damage, but offering an Aoe Aegis instead… even if it’s short radius..
It’s beyond me as to why our Shield does not offer a single block….
Because Anet thinks different == good, like the terrible use of a GS by the Mesmer as a laser canon.
After running around for one hour in a god forsaken map chasing events to complete the daily im done with them, i get the important stuff from logging in any how. Íf i do them by accident ok, but not chasing them any more.

I love the Mesmer Greatsword design. It’s a modern look art spellcasting. Stuff like that keeps the fantasy genre fresh.
If you just swap the skills with the Focus, you end up in a situation where the Focus sucks.
I and i would venture most people on this particular part of the forum would be ok with that. This is a Paladin, it should not even have a focus to begin with.
No becouse this game is not about grinding gear to gain power, you instead grind for skins to look diffrent.

Troupes are troupes for a reason, they are popular, you dont need to keep trying to reinvent the wheel. Thou with the current internal state of affairs at Anet, im not holding my breath for deep changes any time soon.

When can we expect it reworked?, i mean there is little more iconic than a guardian with sword and shield, yet for the life of me i could not find anyone running, other than me to a- troll people off the sky hammer or for the looks of it (if you gotta go down, go down in stile).
The problem is that what most people expect out the guardian class is a traditional paladin, and what you actually get is a “Not Healer” buffer, a “Not Tank” bunker, and a rogue with plate skin and some healing instead of invisibility.
Definitely not a gamepad. Try a Razer Naga mouse. In all honestly i cant possibly fathom how can anyone play this game with out something like that.
Just cut the casting time, Symbols are garbage everywhere except on spvp, and quite frankly, guardian builds could use the diversity if the hammer where to actually become useful.
The problem has never been the ascendant system its the grind to 500, most people out there dont even bother with crafting to begin with. Once you are there, crafting several sets of armor is not that hard or expensive. Getting the bazillion ectos and oris needed to get there on the other hand costs you your first born.

Most of the time yes, i get far more ascendant materials than i can possibly use. Problem is, in most cases, reaching 500 on any given profession is such a pain in the kitten that i would venture most people dont do it, and all those mats get deleted.
Well they could take a page from WoWs handbook and tie the rewards to the events them selves and not idle looting / farming.
When the chivalry thing came up for Wrath of the lich king, the event rewards were tied to tokens obtained from the events repeatable quests (aka events in GW2), not from farming the same mobs over and over again.
It’s truly one of the best things they’ve ever done. Didn’t get to do it that much – prolly only did about 100 chests but will be sure to start doing it more.
I hope this is intended – because honestly I can’t see them not seeing this coming.
It’s also brought a lot of people together and if you think about it all the money is being made because people are banding together and cooperating in a non-toxic way.It’s a very good counter to the toxic event-failing farms of days not so long gone.
I hope this is here to stay. I’ve seen a lot of players who finally got that extra money/shards they needed and honestly what brings people more joy than being able to get your next shiny item?

The problem with allowing macros that don’t give a “competitive” game play advantage is it will quickly spread to the competitive areas as the player becomes comfortable with getting away with multi-click type macros.
If Anet doesn’t want multi-click “competitive” macros, they should not allow any multi-click macros, period.
What is exactly the point of coming up with an unenforceable restriction?.
The ToS specifically states that the use of third party software that influences your guild wars gameplay is not allowed.
In past discussions, Macros were said to be allowed only if they perform one action (one keystroke, one click, etc.)
Basically a “turbo” button.
Anything beyond that is a bannable offense.
Yeah, and they would detect it how exactly?, for the game client it is no different than a signal sent from any other impute device.
That is the same problem they have with bots, bots are not banned based on commands input but rather on reported behavior.
Actually after doing it for a while, it is not that profitable. You get mostly tier 3 mats which are more of a convenience thing than anything else, a lot of mithrill, some ori, and some clothes.
The thing is, after 400 crafting, what you really need is ECTOS it all revolves around ECTOS, thats why they are so kitten expensive, and to be quite honest, you dont get all that many, in fact you are likely more efficient doing the world bosses run since they have guaranteed yellows rather then farming chests
The only real advantage chests give you is if you want tier 3 bloods, scales and so on, in general not one in particular, then yes that is a good place to farm. otherwise not so grate.
