What's wrong with WW?

70% crit is after SYS, used it everytime before I try WW or MB to test.

Well, I suppose 30% of your WW hits won’t crit, so you won’t stack up the same kind of numbers as one good Might Blow proc.

( try testing again with “Save Yourselves!” to get some fury )

Also MB is a blast finisher, so I don’t know if you have some extra might stacked on average.

Yeah, 70% is very high for it not to land a crit. I’m still very doubtful that your stats match up to your output. I need an SS or something to go off of because you should be hitting at least 2-3k higher on crits

Guardian vs Warrior

I mean, if most things didn’t boil down to a dodge + dps = win type mechanic, then Guardians would stand out more. FOTM did a good job at that. Also, I highly disagree with Warriors being good at WvW/sPvP. Faced many warriors during my time, and it’s seriously a faceroll because they pretty much can’t survive worth anything. Given a shield, it gets a little more rough, but they don’t have ranged options anymore. It’s either GS/rifleorlongbow or GS/Axe&Shield one switching between cripples+ranging+kiting+bursting and meleeing+tanking+bursting. Regardless, my setup can literally outlast them no matter what the case. Warriors suck except for speeding up dps-based dungeons.

And yes, I’d choose my warrior anyday to COF p1 just for efficiency! And maybe skirmishing and bursting down inexperienced players, but if I ever want to play competitively, guard always.

Not sure about damage difference between GS and Hammer, but given your stats, you should be hitting higher than that with WW. Like around 6-8k on crit hits. Can you post a video of your stats + doing damage in WvW or a level 80 zone?

Transmuting legendary weps

Transmuting a legendary never affected graphics and effects to my knowledge—it just loses it’s legendary status and therefore won’t be buffed automatically to ascended stats when ascended weapons are released. They attempted to fix it this patch (Jan 28), and although the transmuted weapons no contain the ‘legendary’ rarity (aka purple name), linking it in chat shows it as exotic which concerns some people.

Bottom-line, if you just want the graphics/animations, sure, go transmute it. But if you want to easily attin the BiS gear everytime Anet decides to whip out a new tier, legendary will always be on top and be buffed to the highest stats available.

You can go to other race’s starting areas or craft. Also, it’s good to buy mining,logging,harvesting tools to get mats while exploring. A good fun way to do open world pve is guest on a popular server and join map chat on shout-outs of Dynamic Events which are fun in groups cause they are lively and give good fast exp.

Do you guys think this should be a given, or does it make sense to have to trait for this? I find it always annoying to make my Guard effective to trait into reducing our daunting cooldowns on skills.

I mean, it makes sense, but it doesn’t at the same time and I feel like I shouldn’t need to trait into something to make it effective, but to make it better. Because atm, if I don’t trait to reduce shout cooldowns, I get a 3 shouts every minute that last less than 10 seconds—-and that’s as if shouts are a ‘oh —--’ type of button, which they shouldn’t be.

Anyways, thoughts are appreciated!

and deserve the rewards that come with it. Who are you, again, to determine what is and isn’t important?

Isn’t the legendary itself a reward? Why would you even care about this badge you see for like 3 seconds each time you log in?
Of cause you should have it since you crafted a legendary but making a big deal out of it seems a bit pointless.

It’s rather difficult to explain how annoying it is to someone who doesn’t have Twilight/Sunrise and who doesn’t have to deal with not being properly rewarded for your time and actions invested.

Suffice to say it’s something that is owed to the players who crafted these legendary weapons and is long over due for being fixed. This has been reported for a ridiculously long time and Arenanet is dragging their feet. They had time to add an entirely new animation unicorn to the Dreamer (which already fired rainbows just fine, mind you) but didnt have time to fix this? Stupid.

Yeah, I wouldn’t have brought it up for awhile if they didn’t obviously put some work into the legendaries. So now I’m concerned, if they have the resources to put forth changes like those, they need to fix bugs dealing with legendaries first rather than improve on graphical animations which aren’t really bugs, but a design issue.

Yes, you can have two different sets of runes and gain their effects regardless of what kind of buffs they give. Wearing 3 of 1 type of rune will give you buffs 1, 2, and 3 and wearing 3 of another rune will give you buffs 1, 2, and 3.

You can buy any armor from the vendor no matter if you are heavy, light, med. So yes you can buy it with your heavy char.

Dungeons do actually scale based on players. Kind of. Bosses definitely do. They have much less hp with 1 player than 5. Unfortunately the normal monsters still have gobs of it ;__;

(for those curious about the less hp with 1 player thing. Go load up the aquatic fractal and fight the jellyfish. Lure him into the lightning with 5 players, record how very little his hp bar moved. Now reset the fight and go in solo and try it, he takes way way more if there’s only 1 person in the room. It’s probably the most noticeable example I can think of.)

Pretty sure dungeons don’t scale due to parties. What you are experiencing could be two things. You are on a different fotm level. But if you are on the same fotm level. You probably have better control over luring the jellyfish to electric cages, which do the most damage to the boss thus making it more effective than a party of 5 which aggro the boss away time to time if not coordinated well.

Also @OP, dungeon scaling is a good idea, but the way they were currently designed—-it’s not possible. They may add newer dungeons comptabile for scaling but redesigning a lot of paths currently would just be too time-consuming.

It says it does NOT scale. Whatever your are experiencing is either a bug or a placebo effect. And I have done AC exp p1 solo with kohler, gravelings, and spider, it has not changed.

The wiki is edited by users just like us. They are not omniscient beings as much as they would like to be (would make editing a heck of a lot easier o.o)

When you solo AC, you may not notice the change simply because you deal less damage than a full party does. Which is why I suggested you try it with the jellyfish (as the lightning damage is a constant)

Again, please dont dismiss things because someone else has told you they’re false, and your very uncontrolled tests say the same thing. ;__;

I have no idea what you are talking about. I do less damage because I’m the only one—and there’s no one to add more dps. Jellyfish is a bad fractal to use because the more you expose it to electricity, the more damage it takes regardless of party size. I am just going to wait for a dev response if they ever come by because this is pointless to argue about anymore.

I don’t buy the nerf due to pvp argument… It’s pretty rare to see a spirit weapon build guardian in wvw because you lose too much by investing in their trait line, and i’ve yet to see anyone complain they are OP in pvp…anyway, i’m going offtopic…

…wrt fractals, i’ve not bothered to try them myself, but i’ve see how quick they due to mist npcs and orr trash mobs.

I think that was a joke speculation, but I think it’s more due to them wanting a hard cap on fractals and making fractals less dependent on SoA

On one note, skipping takes skill. On another note, some dungeons aren’t the best to have ‘fun’ in with pugs due to some design aspects. If you really want a dungeon that barely has skipping, try FOTM.

You are contradicting yourself. You say it takes skill to skip, and at the same time you say often pugs dont have skill, so it’s better to skip. Make up your mind.

Also, why do you play dungeons with pugs if you are not having fun? Ohh yeah, fast loot, that’s all that matters for many players (farmers) out there. And you guys have a problem.

Skipping it’s something I find not fun. That’s my opinion, and I’m entitled to hope many others shares mine, that’s why I made this post.

I’m well aware this post will be very unpopular amongst the farmers, but I care about my fun, not about their loot.

Lol, I’m not trying to go against you, sheesh, quit being so sensitive. But I never said pugs have no skill, all I said is that the dungeon design allows skipping and no rewards for trash mobs and the mechanics aren not fun enough to take your time on and have fun with your party. So there is no point in preventing skipping when the dungeons aren’t fun.

Don’t try to force people to play the game you want them to play. Players have enough respect to normally tell groups on gw2lfg (which I assume is what ppl use nowadays to join groups) to tell others what they will do in the dungeon—if you do not like it, have enough respect to leave them to their own followers and you can start your own. What is the problem with that? If you can’t find any. You need to make some friends in-game with common interests and get them to casually play it with you for fun. Don’t force random strangers to play you want to play. It’s like going to a real-life party and telling the host “NO YOU CANT RUN IT THIS WAY, IT’S NOT FUN!”

Sure the host pubbed the party for the public, but he’s the host, you can’t expect him to change it to your needs—it’s his party.

If you hosted your own party and told the public your details, sure, you can set your own rules then and it is disrespectful and rude for people to break them.

I find most of these posts are related to very apparent “FAST RUN 80 ONLY MUST BE EXPERIENCED” posts on gw2lfg—-you can make your own. You can meet people in-game via PvE, become closer friends, and tackle some dungeons with people of similar interests or people who are new and you want to show them your way of doing a dungeon. Go for it. But calling out people who just want to play the game their way is just not the way to go.

Fractals, what's your build?

I go for the AH build with GS/scepter 0/x/30/20+/5+ is the backbone, but I use 0/0/30/30/10 specifically.

All zerker armor/trinkets to make up for loss of dps. AH + Empowering Might + 2h GS reduc + 20% cd reduc + uptime for conscreations + added boons on virtue activation.

- Virtues become moderate spike heals (use virtue of justice mostly, but activate resolve,courage for an “oh —--” moment.
- Shelter to block (more important than healing, plus, you barely rack up conditions in fotm
- GS for maw tricks plus good mobbing aoe with GS #5 to pull enemies in a dense radius for allies
- Retreat for speed/aegis, SY, and JI (you can probably get rid of JI for SYG or HTL shouts) switch to wall of reflection when necessary (I would suggest shield of avenger but that’s nerfed now and kinda useless)

Should get you to where I’m at.

Oh and just as a signature, I use rune of lyssa to make renewed focus feel more powerful. You cure all your conditions and gain all boons. It’s as if you’ve renewed yourself and then some.

Yeah, day 2 dailies are nice. Day 1 was a mess. Combo kills were glitching all over the place, spent 1 hour to get 7 then gave up.

Good work with making the waypoints unavailable when the party is in combat.

Now make the trashmobs not skippeable.

Yes, you aggro them, you kill them, as they never reset untill the party wipes. Eventually lower the number of trashmobs groups, if the instance takes too long to finish having to kill everything.

Being able to skip the mobs is a gamedesign failure. If you make the mobs skippeable why put them in the dungeon at all? It’s just annoying and stupid to run through the mobs untill they reset. I play dungeons because I want to have fun fighting with my character with other people, hopefully with some strategy involved, and not to run away from mobs half of the instance.

So, to repeat, either the mobs are there for a reason (being killed) or they aren’t there at all.

I’m a huge “Tales Of” RPG fan. And something they implemented in their gameplay was a ‘tactics’ gui system that allowed you to set the preset location of your allies to fight in and then a few conditional responses for them to have at certain situations, such as ‘Run away if hp is less than 50%’ or ‘Stand down if not hit’ etc.

I think it’d be a nice investment to open up a new world of strategy—-currently with summon-type players and possibly with the concept of npc allies in the future if that’s every implemented, heck maybe some npcs in the story line too. I really like that sylvari group that allowed you do have formations in the personal story, but it could be much much more interesting if it was expanded on.

I think this nerf was due to the use of avenger in fotm. It simplified a lot of fractals it seemed to anet. However, tot sure why anet is nerfing things because they are useful for fotm. It’s as if they don’t want us to progress and learn how to make use of our utilities. And GG fighting in water. Not sure how I’ll survive now.

Although to me, I feel like my Guardian is pretty complete because the AH build matches my play style perfectly—I wouldn’t mind getting any improvements to what you listed. If AH was a given virtue, it’d be nice to focus on some more dps-related traits for sure.

Also, I think scepter should be given a lot more credit than what most guardians give it. But having the orb travel as fast as a bullet would be nice.

Pristine Fractals Useless

I agree with Nuka. It’s a bit weird to make rings available in Fractals, and then not make amulets available there. Especially since ANet keep pioneering choice. If people don’t want to do fractals, they can now use Laurels to get their ascended rings AND amulets. If people want to do fractals to get amulets – they should be able to do so.

Not really weird, it puts people who fell behind due to not being interested in fotm on the same page as people who did fotm. Just like how you don’t want to do laurels, people beforehand didn’t want to do fotm. More than likely they’ll add it in fotm once infused recipes are released I speculate though, but it’s a good initiall release to bring people behind acended gear, closer to the fotm’ers’ and not fall dramatically behind

Combo Killer

The daily was not working as intended because some combos although performed correctly didn’t not consistently trigger the daily count. Not sure if we’ll be compensated though. But it sucks trying almost every weapon as a guard, and getting 1 credit randomly every 10 minutes.

Still haven’t gotten a medal for it, I would hope that taking the time to mod animations could also motivate some effort into fixing this legendary medal activation code.

With the new transmute policy, can we not transmute Vigil items to a Whisper Order character anymore? (and other cases where we would want to transmute to white and transfer)

My understanding is that keeping the higher rarity will not let us able to make exotic skins into basic skins to make them account bound.

You mean, does that mean we can’t* Keeping the higher rarity means we can’t do this transmute soulbound to account bound using whites anymore. Because the white-rarity is what determines the account bound.

Ranged Guardian Viable?

Scepter is a kitten in WvW compared to the ranged weps of other professions. You’re never going to kill someone 1v1 with a scepter. PvE is ok because the shots mostly hit but it’s still not epic.

I love staff, but it is NOT a single target DPS weapon (it’s great at AoE mob tagging though in PvE — hands down the champ at that).

So, if ranged DPS is your thing, skip the guardian.

If you like soaking up damage and feeling like an indestructible hero — guardian is for you. Engineer can also be very very good at soaking up damage.

You cannot kill someone in WvW with a scepter alone, but it’s a nice switch into that can give them trouble. I’ve won many 1v1s before. But ofc had to switch to gs on cd and vice versa. But making them waste a stunbreak, or take hits from smite is pretty worth it imo.

Is PVP Guild Armor transmutable into PVE?

I noticed an NPC today wearing some really nice legs, they matched the guild armor top in such a way as to make it look like ur wearing a tabard. After a little research in the MIsts I found it was the PVP Guild Armor set

So, I’ve found some confusing reports about this set being craftable at the MF but if so I take it it’s just a PVP item? Can that item be transmuted and it’s appearance used for a PVE item?

Pretty sure all pvp items have a pve version and no they are not transmutable. But I think rchow hit the spot.

IMO, if elitist players can make the effort in specifying what professions they prefer, you can alternatively put in the effort to making your own group free of warriors/mesmers or free for all.

I think this is mostly a non-elitist player doesn’t like making group on gw2lfg.com problem.

@OP, if you weapon swap constantly, then your trait setup is good. If you find yourself relying on the GS a lot more, I’d suggest moving 10pts from Virtue to Honor to get 20% 2h weapon cd reduction.

Also, the only major weakness with your setup is stun break. Having 1 stun break is usually not enough, given that our cds are really terribad. I use the same utilities as you cept switch out SoJ for JI, but if you don’t think meditations is a good investment, maybe use SYG since you are shout focused.

I run sigil of strength fo GS for obvious dps reasons and then rune of lyssa to make renewed focus more worth it to use. I find myself using renewed most of the times when I’m in an unsaveable situation, but lyssa removes all conditions and gives all boons at the use of renewed focus, which helps a lot in burst or retreating, given aegis, and stability, regen, vigor, etc. Add that to SY and you’ve got a long lasting set of all boons.

Anyways, I use all zerk set because I’m mostly a PvEer and currently, everything becomes a dps check event so I want to make sure I output as much damage as I can.

Hope that helps. Not sure about the two handed 2nd weapon set. I use scepter/sheild, but still working on what sigils to use for them.

I may be the oddball guardian, but the scepter is one of my most favorite long-range weapons out of all classes. Bind, and a quick smite every 6 seconds is way too good in PvE, and in PvP it is pretty effective if used correctly.

The only thing lacking imo, is any love for it. You can’t really improve the scepter via traits really.

1. Dungeons are the best way to get 80 gear. Each dungeon has 3 different stat combinations but for guard, doing some Ascalonian Catacombs and getting a soldier set would be a good start until you figure out your build. But you can also get karma armor if you want.

2. They are still decent if you like open world farming. It might be better to farm dungeons.

3. AH guardian should be good solo imo. But it’s even better with groups. if you find yourself with people at those events very commonly, maybe switch to back AH. Another thing to add is some foods you can use, sharpening stone (major power boost), onomberry pies (life steal on crit) or onomberry bars (magic find)

Given that you have a party that is willing to do odd levels. Could you not power level a guy using odd level fractals given this new feature? Skipping maw to save time. Or alternatively, just do evens to get the chest at maw? Cause that seems like the case, in which—-more evens for me.

That being said, good job again on another feat. I’d not thought it was possible to do the Hodgins library event solo, but good job in finding a way. Although to be honest, as the designer of that content, I did a facepalm when I saw your thread title.

Aww its not your fault the warrior profession is incredibly…. well better at everything then any other profession in the game lol.

False, they have wider selection of weapons + the highest dps in the game, but they are not better at everything.

Example 1. They can’t reflect projectiles for a team. Which is very useful in fotm.
