When does the pvp forum not ever want to nerf things, especially things not tried out beyond "testing it out in on dummies and many games when stacking teams?
And then the changes are not split across game modes in order to continue to pretend we have MLG esportscrap.

Hmm, this does post a interesting question to the devs, as this I feel as yet another player-developer disconnect. And no, I don’t want to blame anyone as the concept of roaming is probably somewhat a more abstract concept then the zerging that is highly popular—- everywhere.
What is the concept of small/solo play as envisioned through the map?
This might have been something that was errr… overlooked in the beta selection for players.
for there you have been and there you will long to return.
IMO, I think a simple option would just be to have diminishing returns on CC; that way being hit with CC is still effective but you don’t get to infinite combo people to death as easily. Such an idea would only effect zergs. It was funny to infinite redizzy people 20 years ago in the original Street Fighter II, but come on, it’s 2015 people. It was dumb then and it is dumb now.
As a guardian main and sometimes as literally the only guardian in a pug group thingy, I don’t necessarily think the whole thing is impossible but it certainly can be very not fun at times. I can get through most messes on guardian or engineer but I’ve stopped playing my warrior a while back since I don’t seem to be anything besides a punching bag. Oohhh 40s cd balanced stance. >.>

Well the thing here is a lot of the strategy goes out the window.
“We gotta target their t3 tower; it’ll break their upgrades and waste their resources and time! And hold it for a tick! Then we can use this location to lay siege to their keep! O”
“Which one? All of them are T3!”
I think when things come too easily, they start to slowly lose meaning. I certainly don’t oppose auto upgrades entirely because you should be rewarded for holdings things for a long time. It’s just that the definition of long time doesn’t seem very long. The way it happens so fast and killing dolyaks seems to only slow it a bit just makes the whole process feel very tedious.
IMO, an issue of tuning.
for there you have been and there you will long to return.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with the new maps, apart from the PvE event which should not be there.
The only problem is the attitude of the players to change. They don’t like it, Period.
In only a week they have managed to pass judgement without, in many cases, spending more than an hour or two on the new maps, plenty of time to come to a reasonable conclusion it seems?
People have cried out for change on this very forum, which, admittedly is populated by whiners in the main, and now the changes are here, all they want to do is whine some more.
If these maps had been in game from day one people would have been wetting their underwear about how great they are, but human nature, and gamer’s nature being what it is, it is more a case of …….
“I don’t like it, I don’t know what is wrong with it because I haven’t played it enough to find out, but I don’t like it so please remove it now”
Maybe as an older player I am not from the age of entitlement where I expect everything to be exactly as I want it.
The solution is simple….adapt or leave, don’t come come to the forum with your petty complaints. Sure, WvW will suffer for a few weeks but the game is still bigger than any of you and it will recover and get along just fine without you.
Thanks for your input, but I’m afraid a lot of that is off topic. This thread is labeled [Constructive Feedback] Desert Borderlands, not [Feedback] Player Attitudes. If you wish to discuss that, please find another topic. The goal of the thread is to discuss how one plays WvW and provide an evaluation of such on the maps. How other people approach this, and in particular your own evaluation of their mentality towards life, is a red herring and incredibly toxic. Again, we have many other places for that kind of stuff.

It’s amusing. The other month people were up in arms because Mike O’Brien insinuated that very few people played the WvW game mode exclusively. Now when you ask where all the WvW players are, you’ll be told “they’re in PvE.” Guess he was right afterall.
Heyo! I’d like to introduce you to a guy – me! I am a hardcore WvWer! I exclusively played WvW during its heyday.
Due to a plethora of reasons, I have quit WvW (and thus GW2) in early 2014. I am not the only hardcore/exclusive WvWer who quit. Far from it. Guess who is mostly left now? Non-hardcore players, who only do WvW like 5% of their game time as a novelty thing. Because those who only did WvW have quit long ago because ANet does a p-poor job at WvW.Seriously, you could have arrived at that yourself.
Always anets fault. Never the players. You’re part of the problem in my eyes. You quit close to 2 years ago yet still lurk the forums and spit out your hate towards anet and this game mode. I feel bad for new players that come to these forums. Forum is full of people that don’t even play anymore yet still hate on this game every second they can..
I was fine with this game mode never changing but NOOOOOOOOOO. People wanted changes and now will not adapt to any change. I saw this coming after the few test events we had and that was just temp stuff yet the rage in these forums was real.. Players is what is starting to ruin this game mode for me and nothing else..
The new pve content is actually challenging. Mobs there give me better fights than 99% of the players I run into in wvw. Plus they don’t nike away when they get below 50% health. Its no longer boring stack here and spam 1 to win. You would know all this if you actually still played then you might actually realize why wvw is so empty ATM.
I couldn’t agree more. Seems so odd to me that folks swear up and down that the quit and don’t play, yet post things on the forums, claiming to know what is going on in game.
Not only that, but my experience suggest he is wrong as well. I see literally hundreds of players throughout the week, that are hard core and have been around since release. I am not suggesting things are full, and all is divine. But I certainly do not see the sky falling.
I see very many trickling g back into WvW, but my friends list is full of players doing PvE because it is more effecient for the elite spec.
Don’t forget the insane amount of threats about quitting every time something happens, and then you see the same people threatening to quit for years. This seems to happen a lot in the class specific forums more, and I am like “Wow, have you rerolled or quit yet?”. Heck, I was bitter towards necros for the longest time and would express stuff, but I’ve moved on, and apparently the reaper has finally brought things to a better place.
It’s sort of a self-fulfilling prophecy of some sorts. Basically, one can’t resolve matters and they come back from time to time to go “I told you so!”. This can be seen in a number of posts that are merely to vent and not to give feedback.
There’s just so many examples of myopic vision that centers from within one’s own biases with a number of absolutist statements that have no real way of verifying An example would be with WvW achievements, exclaiming the reduction is a bad idea because it’s apparently too easy but without considering a quick look at other achievements and one could see that it’s more of an issue of consistency and comparability— so it is very hard to take those opinions seriously. From the other extreme, we can see in the 400 vs 250 Hero point for elites debate that some people who don’t play WvW at all just simply argue strictly from a PvE perespective yet pretend WvW doesn’t exist despite the effect it has on it and dismiss any possibility things could possibly be different on this end.
And then this leads to very black and white thinking of defining whoever’s a real WvW’er and who’s not and this rather laughable exaggeration of self-importance. Of course, nobody will doubt the importance of dedicated players, but when it becomes an “us vs them” situation, then I’m certainly very unsympathetic to those with that kind of elitist attitude towards so called non-hardcore players or whatever. and then people complain WvW is empty? Duh….?
Again, this goes beyond agreeing or disagreeing with the state of the quality of the game, and I certainly think there’s any number of issues to discuss, but definitely, I am of the mindset that if one is just here to be salty then they’re just part of the problem— so I agree with Briggah here. I am here because I’m a WvW’er, I like WvW, and like a number of WvW’ers I’m too stupid to quit despite the odds. How many people can have that excuse though?

I’m not sure why this sentiment keeps getting tossed out when it’s shown that Anet will make changes as needed. 400 —--> 250 HP for elites anyone?
Its getting tossed around because of the HARD REALITY that there was more flex and give when the class was in development than after release.
The change to 250 points from 400 its the perfect example — making changes after you go live infuriates some people. Issuing errata inflicts creditability damage. It is a tool of last resort, not some willy-nilly free spirited chaos festival. Changes don’t have to just be good, they have to be good enough to be worth the cost of making any change. MMO gamers don’t generally respond well to instability of any sort
.
We know for fact that the lack of native speed buff is one of the prices the Guardian profession pays for it’s all around good performance. There was some question if it might become part of the Dragonhunter. It didn’t. And now that the Dragonhunter is live, while it’s not “set in stone”, it’s such an infinitesimal likelihood that begging for it is not just a waste of time, it s a good way to get something that’s working quite nicely nerfed, because Dragonhunter is not exactly ‘failing to perform’ by the metrics ANet relies on.
I think there are too many assumptions with this .
It is perhaps true that lack of mobility was a concept in the original design, but the game has changed quite a bit since and the further we get, the further it is from how the game actually plays.
Also, people will complain about anything. The ranger at one point experienced a much greater boost in functionality due to core changes resulting in QQ everywhere. People being fickle isn’t really a reason to cause things to remain stagnant.
for there you have been and there you will long to return.
As I pointed out in the other thread, I’m wondering why Sweet Bean Buns didn’t follow suit, as they still provide very large boosts.
I do think this is a good idea overall. 40% buff for well, almost anything, is just too much for a single consumable.
I was really happy about the changes to food reducing +/- to 20% instead of 40%.
Then I saw the Sweet Bean Buns, and now I’m really sad again. Why does this food have to exist? -40% condi duration was as detrimental to the game as +40%, as one just forces the other to have a fight that isn’t almost broken.
A hair’s breadth from being super happy with a change, and they leave this garbage in. I hope it gets changed.
I honestly think that was an oversight. We’ll have to see.

What proof do you have beyond your own anecdotes that makes your viewpoint somehow more valid? What makes you think you could possibly speak on behalf of even a significant group of people and what they want?
Do you see 3-4 maps queued on your server every single hour of the day? If not then my argument stands. If you do then ok chalk up 1 server as healthy, just 23 more to go.
Why is 3-4 maps queued every hour of the day, a strict definition of healthy; if that’s even possible or desirable?
The burden of proof is on you, not me.
Also, you didn’t answer any of the questions I asked. Nothing stands.
Using coglin as an argument? Wow some dude plays a couple primetimes and sees a queue or two and all is better now huh?
lol, I’m not “using” Coglin as an argument. How do you use a person for an argument, and why does it matter who’s posting the observation? I’m using an observation from coglin as a counterpoint. And from what I’ve seen these ancedotes are no less valid than anyone else’s.

You seem to be passing off your subjective opinion as some kind of objective truth to be able determine when failing to point out any bias or inaccuracies beyond them not including what you have decided on your own is the most important problem.
Truth is there all massive dead times in all tiers even the top ones. If you can’t see this without a list of data and numbers then please leave me to it. All I talk about is finding a way to get the people who want to play WvW together. Yes I’m one of them. I’ve never leveled a char up in PvE and never well. My PvE escapades are limited to running to the karma vendors for exotic gear and even that is done begrudgingly.
What proof do you have beyond your own anecdotes that makes your viewpoint somehow more valid? What makes you think you could possibly speak on behalf of even a significant group of people and what they want?
All your arguments about dead WvW seem to center around PvE and “waiting it out”. There have always been huge dead zones and this will not go away by “waiting it out”.
I never said waiting it out was a solution. In fact, I don’t remember proposing a solution, but maybe I did… somewhere? Confusing correlation with causation is a problem, and my anecdotes were meant to draw out multiple possibilities.
And again, “truth” via ancedote can be quite subjective, as we have a counter example just below your post:
JQ had 3 maps queued 2 of the last 3 evenings. Seems to be thriving as people get their ES hero points earned and get to trickle back out of PvE and come enjoy the new maps.

Because maps need to be designed for the mechanics within the game, and adding that might have altered the map in a way outside of its intended design— with the potential pitfall that whatever you added is so good, after all it wasn’t part of the design— that it breaks the content so badly it becomes almost mandatory. The new maps, for example, are designed with gliding as a main focus.
You can’t just put stuff in, just because.
for there you have been and there you will long to return.
Well, I agree in theory but I am not sure if you are referring to a specific game mode. It could be that celestial is a jack of all trades stat and people haven’t learned to optimize yet, though it might be also that certain builds are so well-rounded that they can take celestial and have virtually everything.
for there you have been and there you will long to return.
I like the hammer, though it took some getting used too.
Then I met bulwark gyro and fell in love. I can cast it in a pinch and take 1/2 damage for a period of time, and have a 20% uptime on a reflection dome around me. This has become on of my favorite skills in WvW. I find it great for protecting siege when attacking, as well as my allies.
Between this and hammers 6s cool down reflect I not only fail to take a fair amount of damage, but I send it back to my enemy.
Function gyro is of such limited use in PvE that it could not exist. In WvW it is so poor to us its functionality that I am a little curious what they were thinking. I say this because it is so terribly difficult at times to target a downed player to revive or to spike or to target an enemy to spike. They really need to add a targeting function that can be set to the desired keys, that tabs through downed players if they are going to make a elite specialization that is based around focus spiking and reviving.
Hmm, somehow I had similar observations when trying it out in PvP. I can definitely see how potent the reflect dome is, even more so in WvW. Although, I’m wondering what utility skills are you also running, as the gyro will have taken a utility slot and slots are rather scarce for engineers atm.
Function gyro is definitely in a weird place, and can be a pitfall of overly specific design. I think it’s easy to conclude it seemed mostly to have pvp in mind as there is as you noted, almost nonexistent in pve. I’d imagine the ranged stomp/res would have application in WvW but the nature of that mode makes it rather hard to accomplish in practice beyond small pvp’ish skirmishes.
I would be on board for a special kind of targeting for the function gyro, however I don’t know if they think it’ll make pulling it off too easy and how it’d impact pvp or whatnot. This really gets down to an issue of intent and also pve remains to be a problem.

No, it’s just an observation. I prefer to think of causes before even trying to spam whatever I think will solve everything. And it’s just from experience that WvW activity drops with any major pve release. This happens to be a really big one in addition to the actual WvW maps being frustrating to a lot of people. Getting people to move around doesn’t solve anything if the gameplay is fundamentally flawed.
Hard to tell if gameplay is fundamentally flawed without people being able to play together (move around). I have yet to experience anything but empty maps.
People fixating on things they can only imagine are a problem instead of trying to “spam” solutions to the REAL problem gets us nowhere.
Which is fine. But even deciding on what the real problem is becomes a fairly subjective observation. To be more clear, I think people are quick to dismiss other people’s problems and push their own as an agenda, often disguised as the real problem as a magic bullet to solve everything.

- Me seeing WvW frequenters in the new zones

The zone is tough compared to other open world stuff, yes, you could die! But that’s actually somewhat good for me. Now this kind of "challenge"I appreciate; the sudden threat of failure unless you wake up. However, if you’re having too much trouble, you really have to be more careful with your pulls and carefully perform maintenance work on potential threats. (aka put your pet on passive!) This includes kiting enemies back into allied NPCs and noting your distance to them. Chances are you’re not taking care of stuff behind you and you’ll get surrounded in no time.
I admit, there is some trouble because unlike most other maps, it doesn’t feel like you can maneuver to avoid enemies very much because it is narrow and overcrowded in some places. That, and WPs seem to be so far apart that it does feel rather punishing.
I think, give it a bit more time, and take more breaks when you finally do reach a safe place. The map is indeed designed to make you slow down and work your way through so don’t just run past everything.
