It is bound to happen in games that have been around for a while.

A lot of people just don’t understand what it was like to be new, or well, what it is to be like anyone that isn’t themselves.

And certainly not just in this game; the internet tends to be filled with myopic posts about every topic. But I also think it has to do with being able to do something but not really being able to explain it.

Which would relate to more men being more uncomfortable having a female char than females being uncomfortable having a male char.

Well it really depends on how you mean uncomfortable…

I find the prospect of staring at a mans hairy backside for thousands upon thousands of hours somewhat uncomfortable. I mean sure the GW2 men are basicly all supermodels with well toned buttocks, but still…

Edit: I managed to break censuring on the forum?! Better delete that line lol.

I did say more men than women.

So, I’m talking averages or % of population, not absolute all or none.

Edit: and I’m not talking about staring at backsides. I’m taking about being uncomfortable playing as the opposite sex.

Well, we’re working from a framework of pixel choice corresponding to gender and sexual identity, so it’s going to end up contrived regardless.

ranger not used because they do not have cleave.

They have cleave (Sword/GS and even technically LB with piercing shots can hit up to 5 people)

Just wanted to throw that in there.

I agree that designation is not completely accurate. All classes can cleave, but there is a distinction, and that is these weapons only work at point blank range and they can’t do much else with it. The issue is when combat gets to close but not melee range due to hazards.

Let’s consider something like guardian hammer. It is a very slow melee weapon but it does have a range option and area control option as well as a blast. Basically the weapon has something to do even if it’s out of range for most of its attacks.

You also really have to note the amount of AOE CC that comes from medium classes. It’s generally not that much. Rangers have barrage and Engineers have thunderclap…. and yea. It would be outdone by a LB DH using hunter’s ward and that’s not even considered essential these days.

Essentially all the meta class can cleave while still adding utility when not cleaving as well. And considering the warrior, a class that brings a lot of support, is pushed out of the meta, and you know how badly things are going.

What I hate most about the Engi

in Engineer

Posted by: ArchonWing.9480

ArchonWing.9480

At one point in time, the engineer went from being a CC king to …. rather restricted. The power creep and passive defense of elites has made it much less effective. Did you know Overcharged Shot was once a matter of great QQ? It’s crazy to think about it nowadays.

The removal of the daze gyro (meaning if you take them, you get NO cc) and the nerf to thunderclap was a crippling blow. Yes, there’s still some decent skills left but it’s not what it was.

What does this have to do with anything? Well, your range could suck if you can tie people down…. this is no longer the case.

Power Scrapper Roam WvW Build Recomendations?

You can mostly troll anyone with this build even if you can’t overcome them. It’s generally too hard to overcome tanky necros/druids and not worth the time, but the former can’t follow you at all.

Probably better as a small group than solo taking on larger groups as you can harass people endlessly and the group superspeed for blowing up gyro can help you run people down, secure stomps etc, stealth AND reveal abuse. Only Guardians and Necros are going to take you on in melee though definitely do not try to rub your face against those. You will die.

I always like the burst from Acid Bomb. While nobody will stand on it voluntarily, it has a fairly reasonable cooldown and often will finish them off when they’ve blown everything trying to run away from you. Rocket Boots x2 past them and then an acid bomb in front of them will often throw them off especially if they’re already panicking.

Proc sigils are used to artificially boost the pitiful AA of Elixir Gun. There are times when you are forced to use it because there’s nothing else you can use when they’re out of hammer range.

You might want to switch bulwark for cleanse gyro, or elxir Gun for Tool Kit/Elixic C depending on how nasty condis are. RB has generally replaced TK for me though since there is no need for me to worry too much about losing distance…. usually. I have no interest in anything that bugs out more often than not.

Well, it’s more like the melee skills on rifle are way better than the ranged ones. So it’s sorta weird that even ranged weapons work better point blank.

But I’d rather complain about projectile hate and retaliation since those have made ranged much less useful overall in WvW where ironically it would actually be useful. In other cases, boon share already favors melee.

There’s only a few reasons to enter a squad.

1.) Group comp. Boons and heals have very short range, so melee is priotorized. There’s little reason for non-melee non healers to be placed in these parties. The most important thing is stab rotation as well as resistance for the frontline and as rangers or thieves do not really provide group stability or need it, they shouldn’t usually be placed in groups. In fact it can be bad if the frontline should fail and the enemy comes pouring at you anyways.

2.) Supply count. Unless you’re the commander, you don’t really need it.

3.) Broadcast/Squad Chat. Not too big of a deal if there’s comms. If the squad is organized enough toi care about comps, they’ll generally have that. It would kind of defeat the purpose of having comps if nobody calls anything out. I mean I guess there are players in sync enough to maintain stab rotations telepathically, but I’m not at that level.

4.) Squad Markers. Now this is somewhat useful.

3 and 4 DO warrant a reason to place people in squads regardless until it gets full, but then again inviting people to squad and then kicking them when it gets full is probably the worse options. But it’s really not that big of a deal. For the most part you don’t need to be in the squad unless you are frontline; the biggest boost will be being on Comms in most fights anyways.

Sometimes a guild takes pugs but does not organize them at all (instead just leaving their own comps) since they have no idea what strangers are running. In these cases the benefits of being in squad are rather marginal.

The game does not allow for people to prevent you from following them if they are tagged because they do not “own” the map and do not have any actual binding authority outside of the squad unless voluntarily accepted. Being a member of the server certainly means you have the right to partake in any fights. Personally, there’s never been a commander I couldn’t keep up with on Guard/ele (and still could most of the time on any other class) unless they were 100% leeroy and were a rallybot themselves, in which case comps don’t matter. What I’m saying is that people that get 1 pushed are not being 1 pushed because they don’t have a squad.

Pro Tip: The most dangerous spot is actually the area where the commander has just pushed through. This would be the spot where most of the enemy damage has directed but also past the range of the heals that are focused on the tag. Standing there will generally cause you to die. I bet if you take advantage of this knowledge, commanders will eventually want to have you around.

Playing a toon of the opposite gender?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ArchonWing.9480

ArchonWing.9480

Well this thread has been informative.

From reading it, so far I’ve found that if I play female chars then it’s because of feminine aspects of my personality and if I play male chars is because of masculine aspects of my personality.

What this all means that a female playing female chars I’m expressing female personality traits. But I’m spending my time staring at female butts, so… I’m expressing male sexuality? I’m exhibiting latent lesbian traits? But if I play male chars, while I’m now being sexual normative by staring at male butts I’m expressing masculine personality traits.

Hmmmm.

Nowhere in all this contradictory mess am I allowed to play which gender I want based on nothing more than aesthetics.

To all the deep psycho analysis some have made I say, sometimes a cigar is just a cigar (that is, you’re looking too deep into a shallow choice).

I like to set things on fire indoors and swing my weapon at ambient creatures. . Isn’t that what people do in real life too?

Tagging has largely been devalued outside of Central Tyria since trash mobs no longer drop much and the rewards are centered around compleition. For example, you’re not going to be hitting those HP sponge frogs in Tarir for loot.

HoT/LS maps I generally focus more on killing the boss as opposed to tagging things.

Ranger class kicked from WvW and PvE

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ArchonWing.9480

ArchonWing.9480

1.) You can’t be “kicked” in WvW. You can be kicked out a squad, but that doesn’t stop you from following them. You lose out on communication, supply count, and party placement but the later 2 do not matter because boon share is generally irrelevant for rangers anyways unless they are frontline heal or something. Proectile weapons such as ranger longbow are liabilities due to the large amount of projectile hate, and while you may not, there’s no way for the commander to know you personally.

Speaking as someone that does use “rallybots” at fodder, I’d like to say that people that blame pugs for their failures especially in large fights are generally projecting and just want to blob the map, especially now that rallies are only 1 per kill so this generally is more of a problem when numbers are less than 10 In general zergs though, the so called “bads” often get 1 pushed and die before they have the chance to rally anyone. Unless you are heavily outnumbered, nobody in your group should even be close to going down before all these non-squad folks are dead. If you are, then you’re probably as bad as the pugs you’re kicking if not worse.

The ones that do the rallying are actually the bad heavies that are selfish and don’t push with the melee so they burn all their cooldowns for selfish survival and end up dying at the worst moments. But don’t let facts get in the way of rage I guess.

2.) Epidemic on pets is a problem…. assuming pets actually live long enough for that to happen. Which is never. 99% of the time just target the ranger and epi load .

3.) Make your own squad. You can’t be kicked from it. Hell, you can even make a squad and kick everyone using meta builds if that’s your thing. Once there was no tag and we came under attack and there wasn’t any time to switch toons, so I tagged on Druid. People cooperated because there was nothing better to do anyways.

That’s always something I’ve wondered on this topic. Why don’t people make groups like “Casual Bring anything NO META OR KICK groups” I doubt anyone is going to complain about being excluded from that, so what’s the downside?

Not really. I’ve honestly never been fond of self-insert when creating characters ; it honestly got mostly old after I was like 12 or something. eg. I am not a midget, a giant cat, or a plant. I mean what about those people that play many toons? Do you associate with all of them?

Also, I didn’t know people still thought female toons = female player. Nobody has hit on my toons before though there’s been an odd compliment then and there, but honestly with hundreds of characters looking around the same, how do people even single them out?

Though despite this, I would definitely report any form of harassment. I don’t think you have to be a particular gender to get offended by that.

Running GW2 on Max settings

ArchonWing.9480

Hi.

Because you said gaming PC, and not just a Gw2 PC, it’s a little diffrent. Namely, new games benefit more from having a GPU and less so for having a good CPU, while Gw2 prefers a better CPU with high single core speed but not much of a GPU. The current PC would be good for Gw2, but if you intend to play other games, I would consider dropping down to a 1500x or 1600 and getting a gtx 1060 6 GB.

Also, SSDs I think are mandatory for a modern gaming rig. SSDs greatly speed up load times and Windows usage. Probably aim for at least 200+ GB SSD.

If you only play gw2, you want as much cpu clock speed as possible and 2 cores is enough. Gtx 1050 ti should be more than enough. From what I have heard the game runs very poorly on some amd cpus, so you are probably better off with intel unless someone can tel you exactly what amd cpu to buy
Dont buy a laptop because even high end ones cant handle gw2 on max settings properly due to the much lower cpu clock speed (unless you buy a big bulky one with a desktop cpu)

Yes and no. While gw2 mainly relies on single core, it still uses more cores for other stuff, usually up to 3. So a quad core will generally outperform a dual core, but past that it doesn’t help unless you do other background things.

New dual cores run gw2 fine though, but with ryzen3 there is little reason to consider a dualcore beyond the super budget g4560.

Now graphics cards, almost any crappy card works. Rx 560/1050 is more than enough. Could even get away with a gt1030/rx 550 but honestly, just treat yourself better and order less drinks for a month and get a better card.

Now, if that is all the budget allows, it will handle the game ok but you may want to shop more. 6 gb of ram is cutting it close.

The only difference is he found all this for 970$

He could take cheaper CPU cooler but he wanted to overclock the CPU.

With only very slight voltage increase he was able to OC it at 4.3ghz

Imo he didn’t need 1060 gpu but only 1050ti but the performance from 1060 compared to 1050ti is too huge to skip on.

Every detail on max and on, full hd resolution, he play 55-60 fps (when it’s limited to 60fps max) in Lions Arch.

To compare this for u I am with older PC 16gb ddr3 upg to 2133mhz, i7 4790k oc to 4.5ghz, evgta gtx780ti king pin edition, slightly oced too and I pull between 41 and 60 fps in lions arch but his minimum is 55.

P.S This is not just something he told me – I saw the fps and played on his pc myself. And his PC is in a dusty room, no matter how often he vacuum it and clean it there is dust and the case is perfect for dusty rooms as it has antidust filters and a lot of air ventilation. I think he got 2 more fans from his old rig and put em on the new case as the new case comes only with 1 big fan in front. But hell, this case is great. His temps never go beyond 60 degrees and its summer (in stress test). And the m.2 helps loading between maps a lot. I am with ssd and this m.2 loads faster every map

That looks perfect!

As to OP, If it’s too expensive, one can consider getting a cheaper cooler, downgrading it to a r5 1600 or 1500x (comes with the cooler too), lowering the ram to 8gb , or getting a 1050ti, in that order.

If one were to get a 1600, they’d save $20 on the CPU and not have to buy a $30 cooler; and could divert the money, to say, a bigger SSD.

Also keep in mind stuff like karma and whatnot which is hard to quantify.

I don’t have more than 40k myself which is pretty poor for hours played because I haven’t farmed in forever. But easiest way is to convert gem when it’s cheaper and then buy things on discount. Note that I haven’t played much these past few months; maybe like 2-3 days out of a week and too many long sessions either.

But at least I have captured more WvW camps than 99% of people. That is what really matters.

And yes I have them at level 80 and I currently find both around the same in personal preferences to play.

Currently, I use herald for zerging and DD for small scale/scouting, and that’s so dull I didn’t really have to bring it up. Though I hear Revs are going to be obsolete because of other classes’s power creep?

Or neither, and you think something else is better? I already have max slots on guard/ele/engi so those need not apply.

And yes I realize nerfs make everything speculation, but I ask more towards your idea towards the concept of these elites and how fun they are to play/use.

Because people feel entitled. Every place has lots of people that know how to be a commander, but for some reason don’t actually command or probably never have.

If you tag up and refuse to be the servant to every person on the map then you’re apparently treating them badly.

There are quite a few threads where people have such a mentality.

The best way to get a squad going though, is to start out small and draw random scattered players. Start out small and take camps and the occasional t0 tower, and you should slowly start to grow in size, as well as gather some people that aren’t just to hitch a ride for a cheap daily. This builds morale.

Another way of building morale that I know a lot of people will disapprove of, is to seek the enemy blob but don’t engage them. Instead go to where they were and you will inevitably find their tail/lagging zerglings/ unfortunate folks running to their zerg. Kill all of these, and this will generally keep the crowds somewhat satisfied because it appears you are doing something. (Only applies if you are outnumbered, of course)_

People generally do not like standing around doing nothing so break off attacks if they seem too well defended and also do not lead hopeless defenses of low upgraded structures (But do drain all the supplies) But do defend the t3 keeps and always respond to requests for those. People that call it out will appreciate it at the least, and nobody would object to it.

Your home borderland is generally the best bet, because a tag generally attracts the borderland defenders and also people that are really bored. This is doubly so if your home is the desert one, and doubled again if there’s an enemy group of significant size.

Oh, well that mystrey is solved. Haven’t really seen that used much but in these parts we don’t accept it, although we don’t really go out of our way to make it an issue.

Pretty sure it is already not allowed you can just report people for that and let anet enforce their own rules. If you are being harassed or threatened, then they can also get authorities involved.

That being said you are free to express your opinion but I would recommend just not associating with people of the sort… If you really want, you can also res them to 99% and throw a ballista on top of them. There is no rule against that either. Sometimes hands slip and you are trying to build siege but you accidentally res someone.

Well, beauty of wvw is you don’t need to be good at everything, you just have to be good at something

If you judged wvw ability by how to place a cata or a treb , then you should take a random pver over me. It just isn’t something I care to get good at. I refuse to spend 15 minutes trebbing a wall. Unless it involves cows, because that is good for trolling.

People might not like dueling because no content was was balanced around 1v1 in all content. errr… I guess you can argue it is not balanced period

Leadership is a separate skill from combat ability too. The best leader isn’t always the best player and vice versa

I am confused myself. I can only think of the term related to the word imbecille and idiot. But then, OP mentions girl gamers so I assume it must be a sexist word.

I am pretty proficient when it comes to calling people names and have been called many myself, but for that I say “report”

Maybe that’s the word

Remove unwanted players from server

Most things like playing in “bad faith” can be reported and of course the typical abusive language can be as well. People are generally not that smart and will do something stupid eventually.

Of course, in practice I know people do not just ignore and report, the urge is honestly a bit overriding to have the last word so to speak especially in the heat of the moment.

If someone is simply toxic to your server and not really breaking the rules, then combined social pressure, isolation, and other tactics can make it an inhospitable place for them, effectively running them off the server. I’m just going to leave it at that, though.

OTOH! I also think it’s pretty irresponsible to deport someone to another server. If they should be such a destructive force, then why should they get a free transfer to bother another community? It’s going to be a hot potato.

Hmm, I’ve been seeing the opposite. People yelling at you for not interfering. Like it’s my fault you need backup in a 3v1 on your end.

You see, zerglings running in a beeline to their zerg unaware of their surroundings are a general annoyance to everyone because they are useless in those situations.

When I roam, I make sure to kick everyone not on a medium class (1 mesmer might be
fine for portal.) however I spam invites to everyone that passes by and then decide later on to kick them afterwards once I get enough thieves because I am scared of losing. I do not res people on non-meta roaming classes because they are rallybots that are a hazard to the server. Yea, some fringe players might be good on a heavy class or something, but anything they can do small scale, a thief can do better. They should really know better and switch to a proper class. Also, I tell zergs to get off the map, because they’re taking up queue space that is meant for roamers. I mean 4 roamers could take 4 camps, in the time a zerg takes 1. Assuming your average zerg is 40 people, that means the ratio is 10:1.Even assuming it does it twice as fast, it’d still be 5:1 Why would anyone interested in efficiency want to fill the map with inefficient players such as that? By the time a zerg takes 10 camps, roamers could have taken like 50 camps. And that’s a lot of PPT or something.

Finally, they ruin my outnumber pips, and that is unacceptable.

I don’t think you ever “need” anything to put in a shared slot beyond possibly the copper salvage kit.

I put the single use vendor/BLTC passes in shared inventory slots. (Don’t have permanent) Because these tend to be emergency use items, I find them only getting used if I put them there, instead of spread out among my characters.

These things are generally the things I end up clicking the most in practice, or at least ones I would find annoying to go look for. Obviously the consumables are somewhat overkill but the slots were on sale, so hey.

Also, I bought the Silver-Fed out of boredom. I do not recommend it as a practical purchase.

WvW Holosmith vs Retaliation

You know, somehow I feel glad that I kept missing with that skill, lol. I replaced it with Mortar, so I never got the chance to explode.

Although I still don’t fire mortar at enemies due to the fetish for projectile hate. It’s mostly fired downwards for the fields. Meh.

In big fights, it’s about equivalent of bringing a Staff DD except you have to put more effort for the damage output and lack utility, though you can bring a few fields. Still worse than scrapper, and scrapper is already several times more effort for a fraction of the results compared to the in vogue classes. I honestly don’t see what Holosmith could bring to change this, especially given the toys Warriors and Necros got….

tl;dr lol retal

is "waste of dev time" a real arguement?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

ArchonWing.9480

A lot of Armchair Developers seem to have a firm grasp of what Anet can and cannot do, like they were an employee or something.

Which is why it’s always great to see them constantly being proven wrong. You had people claiming Anet didn’t have the “time” to preserve ranget pet names but they did eventually. If we kept listening to that same argument, nothing would ever be done.

But the real reason is a lot of people of their own pet agendas and fear that other suggestions would delay them. Whether this fear is actually rational or not for the good of the game is a separate topic. Which is why the inevitable follow up is that “it would waste dev time to focus on real issues” of which ’real" issues is completely dictated by the user themselves, making all other issues outside of their scope fake issues. And you get these delusions of grandeur when people claim that “Nobody asked for these changes” when requests for it may have been popping up in plain view for years.

tl;dr narcissism.

I think Hard Light Arena should give stability over generic fury and regen that is crapped out everywhere and anywhere.

There’s way too much CC/corrupt even compared to it is now, so not having stability is disastrous in any decently sized fight.

I was able to get around using the eclipse trait, but still rather unwieldly and ended up pulling Elixir B anyways, which of course gets kittened over by projectile hate.

Power calculators tend to vastly overestimate the power use, and even considering that, pcpartpicker is predicting a 250w peak load. You don’t need more than a quality 500w power supply for this.

You will not pull 80 fps all the time in WvW zergs regardless of machine due to engine limitations though that computer should do mostly fine.

That power supply is not going to handle that setup.
http://powersupplycalculator.net/

What exactly would take that much power? The graphics card is pretty low power.

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/CyWF2R

Component Estimated Wattage
AMD – Ryzen 3 1200 3.1GHz Quad-Core Processor 8W – 65W
MSI – B350 TOMAHAWK ATX AM4 Motherboard 17W – 70W
G.Skill – Ripjaws V Series 8GB (2 × 4GB) DDR4-2666 Memory 5W – 5W
Western Digital – Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive 4W – 20W
SanDisk – Ultra II 240GB 2.5" Solid State Drive 2W – 10W
Gigabyte – GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB Video Card 18W – 75W
Total: 54W – 245W

Though regardless, I’d aim for a more reputable brand of power supply like Seasonic. Check out:

WvW rank pips

in WvW

Posted by: ArchonWing.9480

ArchonWing.9480

It’s to give people of extremely high rank something to aim for. The distance from the start of diamond to max is 3500 ranks which is more than the ranks I have earned in total! So there is a huge difference. The only reason why it doesn’t get a separate rank is probably because they don’t want to count so high/ran out of names.

Also I would argue that so little players are going to reach diamond in the first place at all, that the difference of 1 pip is really nothing to talk about for most users. Honestly, a 14% pip rate is like compensation for all that time doing…. well anything. If they got 20 pips, it wouldn’t really matter to me at all.

Personally, I’d like to see Silver and above get 1 more pip. Silver seems like a pretty reasonable goal, and more incentive should be put into getting it.
