commanders kicking Rangers and Thief

ArchonWing.9480

If the squad is full, then it sometimes is necessary. Some things are just more important.

However, it is somewhat annoying for commanders to insist everyone join them, and then spam invites. If that’s the case , well….

Personally, I move them to the bottom squad so they can pick targets at least. But usually the squad doesn’t get full in our cases though sometimes scrappers and druids can be used when all other priorities are filled. No idea what to do with thieves.

It goes like this for priority:
These must be in optimal parties, no compromises
1.) Guardians (Base)— Duh. Guardians are the most important part of any zerg.
2.) Necros — Also a duh, as Necros are your damage base but have poor anti-cc abilities. Keeping your necros alive to deal as much damage as they can is paramount.
3.) Revs — Same as necros, and resistance. Revs are highly flexible and can have damage and healing variants, so they can adapt as needed. However, their lack of good stability means they have to be babysitted very heavily and the loss of a few may mean a wipe.

Would be good if you got them into a good party. These do thankless jobs while everyone above only notices when things go wrong.
4.) Eles — Healing/sustain. Very important but a little more expendable,. Much like Revs, they can fulfill a lot of roles but need a lot of babysitting. Less than Revs though.
5.) Mesmers — Utility/Boon share. But your generic veilbot doesn’t need that much frontline protection. Helps though. Generally indispensable but you don’t need that many.
5.5.) Warrior/Zerker — CC and Banners. Generally are self-survivable enough, though preferred to frontline party if possible. Unfortunately their role has been diminished by Revs but like Mesmers provide indispensible utility.

Misc. Generally considered too niche for most situations; not that people could understand what situation means. Most average players aren’t going to be able to take advantage it either, so this is a case why things are meta for a reason. Often arises situations where they become useless, especially in narrow passages or fights within structures.
As you see there is not much space for the remaining.
6 . Druid/Scrapper— Superspeed/stealth/Condi clear— Unfortunately redundant with Rev/Ele. Can substitute if one of the above is missing. Generally self-survivable enough to not need frontline party.

The situation is a bit more complex than some may think. Zerg fights often rely on damage dealt from mid-range as you generally push through and encircle the enemy, not just jump in their faces and 111111 because that makes you convenient target practice for anyone that knows how to ground target. It’s the best way to cleave down lows and downs that are weakened from epidemics and other kinds of burst damage.

Both suffer from not having reliable ways of cleaving at this distance, eg. guardian staff may be weak, but the 600 range cleave can help wear things down, where say a scrapper using a hammer is completely useless unless point blank sans thunderclap, and druid ranged weapons are very weak to projectile hate. Trying to fight further away means you’re further away from boon range, and more easily trained down. On the other hand Revs are great here as from a little bit behind they are free to launch their CoRs for massive unreflectable damage/cc.

7.) Thieves— Stealth, Venom Share, Pick. Generally, Not going to be frontline.

Particularly adept thieves, druids, or scrappers will use stealth to break target and stop people from being focused. It is rather difficult to do and the sheer amount of cleave and AOE is a hazard. But sometimes you have no other choice and people often panic and spam 1 anyways, ruining the stealth.

I can’t see a use to these at all.
8.) Base ranger and Engineers. Might join thieves as gank.

I don’t want to convince people of anything, but I definitely want them to understand why things are the way their are. I do play every class, but reality ensues, and can’t ignore facts. Even when given squad control, I don’t place myself in a frontline party if I’m using a medium class, for example.

You just have to understand that the people that run the squad want to have the best chance of winning fights as bad wipes will empty out the map pretty fast People will cut you leeway if you’re a familiar face, but as a random, caution is rightfully advised.

Though OTOH, given the relatively low skill level of pug on pug action, especially these days, there is also reason to chill out as well. You can run a lot of silly stuff and faceroll through anyways. But if stuff gets harsher, please keep all of the above in mind.

It’s not “worth it” in terms of actual in-game gold value. You probably won’t save enough wp costs or time it would take to use HOTM.

But it is convenient. It’s nice if you only have time to log on for a few minutes and all the services you need are there. In particular Mystic Forge and Crafting.

ArchonWing.9480

So much noise. All this emotional hubdub over past wrongs is nonsense.

The most important things are:

1. It rewards players for playing the actual game.
2 It is in line with comparable rewards across the game. Eg. There was a reason why 1 million yaks was off.

That being said, anet should not cave but consider these two things. Player entitlement either by disgruntled veterans or reward seekers should not play a factor.

well I agree for the most part, except to address part 1) quickist way to rank up is eotm, which is not wvw, so i dunno if you would consider wvw rank as “playing the actual game”

and for 2) getting rank 2k is far more disproportionate then trying to earn any other reward on any other game mode.

In fact you could get the Legendary Fractal back piece, Full legendary armor and the spvp legendary back piece, all three of these quicker then it would take for you to go from rank 0 – 2000 with no wvw boosters, since most players don’t have boosters. You could probably go for all three of them at the same time and even combined it would still be faster then going from rank 0 -2000 in wvw.

I meant getting the legendary itself. That requires WvW no?

I mean I guess you could get 2000 ranks in EOTM and then come over, but that seems like an even bigger waste of time. 2000 ranks is for the t3 armor…. and that’s just ascended. T2 is also ascended. Why worry?

Also you get a free celebration booster every month, and also birthday boosters yearly for each character. I have like 10 of those I’ve never used.

Also, if you have the ley-matter energy converter, you can buy a box of WvW supplies for Wxp that doesn’t even require WvW period.

Tier 3 armor is the ultimate prestigious WvW armor, and it will require you to have earned both Tier 1 and Tier 2 to acquire. Each piece requires a very high WvW rank to purchase.

That’s sort of intentional.

Also the legendary backpiece only requires rank 350…. get that first?

It’s actually better when your own server is weak because it’ll be easy to recapture your own lost things, and most likely the opposing forces are trying to k-train your stuff and thus will turn a blind eye.

And of course the competition is softer. Generally groups that run pvd in off-hours aren’t used to fighting actual players.

Cannons lackluster damage

in WvW

Posted by: ArchonWing.9480

ArchonWing.9480

So cannons are weak, but everyone still destroys them.

If they are too weak, why are they threatening enough to need to be destroys?

Yep. They get taken out not because they are weak, but because they are strong. Same with oil. Sure it gets taken out at the start but that’s only because the attack immediately fails if it’s not.

Shoot it for chill and stuff. When they start targeting the cannon, then go over and try to disable.

Common Zergs are easily distracted. If you throw garbage blueprints off to the front, they’re guaranteed to go after it instead of you. I can pull on average a 10-15 people out of the lord’s room simply by placing a regular ballista blueprint outside of it.

You shouldn’t be able to singlehandedly defend SMC. You use defenses to slow them down while you get your own defenders. So you use the cannon until they start targeting you, then you go to the oil and use the dome and maybe a single pot drop if you can survive, then you disable/build acs, or at worse you retreat to inner, rinse and repeat.

If you want to seriously troll objective attackers, you’d be best served making a class with decent stealth uptime and survival (namely, Scrapper/DD/Chrono) since they can throw disablers with almost no way to stop it. Especially since Daredevils can leap out stealthed and throw a disabler from behind their zerg and still get out unscathed.

Consider er all your files lost and remember to make regular backups in the future.

That is majorly exaggerated. There might still be plenty of healthy data (especially if it’s “just” a keylogger), but it takes patience and some basic computer knowledge to figure that out. Not sure the OP has the latter.

Whether files are infected or not is not the matter. This is a problem that is potentially more complicated than simply removing malware, and I think it’d just be safer to format and start fresh. And as your post suggests, if OP lacks computer knowledge, attempting to salvage data now is going to do much more harm than help.

If OP had just caught your average adware, then sure, just boot into safe mode and get rid of it, and all is better. But at this point, with security so badly compromised, I wouldn’t take any risks whatsoever since at this rate there could be much more damage done than just entering a Gw2 account.

The thing is we don’t know if it’s just a keylogger or even how long whoever has had access to the computer.

Personally, I backup files to usb drives, and sometimes save some not-so-important but convenient information to email or google docs or something. That way if anything happens, I just reformat the computer. Trying to fix it will probably take more time.

Stunlock Needs to Go

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

ArchonWing.9480

Trouble with the current stub lock is that it’s low risk and high reward. I wish cc was not as spammable but more strategic in nature.

Where is CC spammable?

Also – stability has a .75 second ICD between strips.

If you play WvW that’s when you get spammed with CC. A lot of CC.

That means you are being greatly out numbered, cc is not spamable, the truth is you are badly positioned yourself and got chain cced.

Seems it is player issue to me.

Well I can understand that you expect every player to be amazing, but it doesn’t happen and the being unforgiving and elitist would mean that a lot of players will leave the game. Let me put it this way, being “CC spammed to death” has been much more of an issue since HoT was released.

The breakbar mechanic has made WvW a far less enjoyable experience. I thought it sounded really good at the time, but I didn’t know CC would be doled out with the elite specs (and then they nerfed stability – and lots of WvW players quit the game).

I think the WvW community would all be quite grateful for some (in WvW only) reduction on CC.

I by no mean any elite, and it is not elitist either, i am not a skillful player either. But i am a player with tactical mind in heart, especially modern combat tactics, suppressing, flanking kind of style. What i think it is very reasonable to be stun locked if you allow yourself positioned within 5+ foes’ line of fire, it is a player’s issue.

I play multi classes in wvw, i usually bring 2 or 3 stun breaks, stun is similar to suppressing fire in modern tactics, it is supposed to lock you down.

If your role in zerg vs zerg expected being focus fired like frontline warrior, you should make sure to bring enough tools to deal with it.

I never able to escape from 3+ engaging foes even with 3 stun breaks, thats fine, as i am not a skillful player, but i have seen players that able to avoid being stun locked even under 10+ foe’s line of fire, that’s skillful. I am not one of them sadly.

Indeed, you don’t have to be anything resembling an elite. I play a lot of builds where I don’t really know what most of the buttons do. I also don’t really do well anyone that is prepared.

There’s basically a few situations where you may be chained CC’d to death outside your control.

  • Being heavily outnumbered (3:1); I agree it is annoying but mobility is king in WvW. Sometimes you get jumped and die; that’s life.
  • You are being sniped; maybe you are the tag or the head. It is quite hard to deal with.
  • You are a Necro or Rev in a big fight and you are sniped by gank. Rather hard to deal with as there is miminal reaction time.
  • If you played WvW in 2015, stability was indeed useless because the cooldown on stability stack removal was too short and effectively useless. It is not 2015 anymore though.

In all of these cases though, chances are conventional damage would have killed you long before anything else.

Everything else is mostly l2p. Mostly involving not panicking and wasting all the cooldowns, and making sure you’re actually being stunned and not immobilized (the later requires a cleanse.

In large fights, if you’re frontline, you should have some decent level of stability to get yourself out of a jam plus whatever personal stability you have. If you’re not, then you have to realize that no, you can’t really run through it the same as they do.

And from experience, I have noticed people tending to lack mobility or stuff like blocks/cc of their own in favor of builds that do l33t damage on paper but end up not being able to hit anything. Stuff like superspeed can really save you from bad situations.

What use is your 20k burst when it never lands?

Anyhow, if one really want to learn to survive, it’s pretty simple. Grab about 2-3 friends or randoms and find the biggest enemy zergs you can find and keep attacking the people from behind/people running to zergs. You’ll go splat a lot of times, but eventually you’ll learn the drill of what to do when people set their sights on you. No, you won’t become some kind of god or something, but it’s better than waiting on Anet to balance things…. (don’t hold your breath)

While I agree that the time it would take to “recoup your losses” through the Watchwork and Unbound Magic tools is an extremely long time, I nonetheless feel that putting players in a position where they have to make a choice between aesthetics and a tangible monetary reward, however tiny, is a bad decision on ANet’s part. I didn’t approve of it back when the Watchwork Pick came out, but it seemed like ANet had decided to leave it be after that as no more new tools came out, so I was willing to let it slide as a once-off experiment.

But now, here are three new tools that offer additional rewards, and what’s more, the Unbound Tools are actually considerably different to normal tools in terms of their harvesting speed:

1. The Mining tool actually harvests 4 times, compared to the usual 3, all in one quick burst near the end of the animation.

2. The Logging tool likewise also harvests 4 times, compared to the usual 3, although the cast time is identical to normal logging tools.

3. The Harvesting tool actually harvests 3 strikes in a single go. You won’t see any difference on normal plant nodes in the wild, but if you’re, say, harvesting from your guild hall plant nodes, it will actually harvest all 3 strikes at once, saving you having to do it three times.

These are the real issues, I would think, the UBM is sorta whatever.

I’ve been slightly concerned that some tools gather more, or are more efficient and would like some balance in that regards.

It would be inversely proportional to what valuable stuff the t7 could make.

Bloodstone dust seems to be able to do more things, so you can exclude that.

Toss Elixir Radius

Do keep in mind, thrown Elixirs can be reflected or bodyblocked, causing the skill to go on full cooldown and taking no effect. In the heat of zerg battle, reflecting skills are
literally everywhere, making elixir B not as reliable “stab 2” as guardian can provide.

Basically, everything is wrong with it.

Third party DPS meters and game hostility...

Make a LFG run that says “Casual Run— No DPS meter or Kick.” You’ll get takers for sure, given the thread’s responses.

Honestly, I am rather befuddled that people knowingly join parties that are prone to this kind of thing and do so repeatedly. You’re not going to get along with those people no matter what.

I have seen people use dps meters in WvW; of which I just go “cute tool, kid”

And beyond the practical issues. I mean, it does serve legitimate purposes. Why not remove chat just because people might use it to offend other people?

As for ascended trinkets, they’ve been used as general rewards across the game. Played some fractals? Here are some trinkets. Played PvP and WvW? There are trinkets in reward chests. Explored the new LS3 maps? You can buy trinkets. Logged in? Here are some laurels you can use to buy trinkets. Why do we need jewelers able to craft ascended trinkets and undermine these rewards? They’re already getting saturated in the game.

It’s just a matter of choice. If people don’t want to do fractals or farm unbound magic, they have to wait a while for laurels. WvW isn’t a reliable source of ascended trinkets because the drops are random and typically useless stats.

Right now, Jeweler is a dead end profession and beyond a few specialized recipes and the achievement, a waste of gold. Compared to other professions, it’s the most worthless one because it’s the only profession that cannot make the best of what it was designed for.

Cooking was not left in the dirt, because there is no alternative, thus still BiS.

Jeweler was indeed.

New Infinite Tools, why not separately?

Oh please the drama is overblown. It’s just unbound magic which already exists tools for, is all over the place in various maps and needs to be converted.

It is nothing on the league of the watchwork one, because not only were sprockets pretty valuable at the time, it was very hard to acquire normally. That become muted with it becoming a map reward and now they’re not really that valuable.

I’ll buy these in the future when they inevitably go on sale, maybe. I still think every tool should each provide something.

It is pretty much about raid, the food has been there for years and only now they start to nerf it.

Yea. If they were going to revamp foods I’d be ears, but this just seems to be for that.

I don’t really see the point of balancing pve metas. Whether or not things get taken as options or not are irrelevant if we’re talking about high speed clears, because in those cases 2nd best might as well be the same as last. PvE can effectively be solved (hence the spreadsheets) and naturally the final product isn’t going to be very elegant looking. Just because speedrunning in a platform game means one skips the powerups because they’re not needed/slow things down doesn’t mean said powerups are useless.

PvE’rs have to realize that ultimately doing the content to the max in games that don’t have the best AI is that it comes down to mechanical execution and exploiting the flaws in the game and in the encounters. And that’s not always concurrent with what is considered fun for everyone, though personally I like to break the game legit. =p

It’s not just raids of course. It’s also the same principle towards the Farm of the Week too, such as multiloots or whathaveyou. You can nerf it all you want, but people just find something else.

Defending vs. Backcapping

in WvW

Posted by: ArchonWing.9480

ArchonWing.9480

The “Don’t be a bag” statement is about preventing frustration. 20 random players trying to defend against twice their numbers or more simply isn’t much fun at some point regardless of the score impact.

This is what has completely been missed by score tweakers and even ANet. The score is a symptom not an actual problem.

That is a different scenario entirely. I don’t think anyone would argue that dying to not save a keep is a good thing and this doesn’t change it. I do not expect people to waste their time on those things.

I have always put value on tiered keeps because it snowballs; tier 0 keep is prone to being lost again. Plus people will hesitate to place siege if they know it won’t get used.

Also backcapping as a strategy tends to have more value when you backcap the enemy zerg’s structures from the the third server. #pptin2017

Why have multiples of the same class? I get people who did it in the past to have multiple builds, but now switching builds is fairly trivial.

Still a matter of convenience as swapping gear or traits repeatedly can lead to errors at the worst time.

I’ve never even heard of the “wiggle” strategy is used in WvW.

Anyone hear a commander callout a wiggle stack, or a wiggle blast, or a wiggle bomb?

That would be an excellent new meme! Wiggle here, wiggle here!

Although I like how in this game apparently not standing still is a “strategy”.

Consumables:
The line of foods that provided bonus damage while moving has been dominating consumable use for all power-based builds. In addition to being significantly more powerful than other foods designed to boost power damage, the “wiggle” strategy to maintain uptime on its effect has a negative impact on the health of the game (and its players). For these reasons, food that increases outgoing damage while moving has had its efficacy reduced by 50%. This affects the following items and their respective feasts:

So instead of buffing other food to be on par, you nerf it. That’s actually okay but was anything underpowered buffed maybe? Then again, when you still have food that reduces a single condition duration by a lesser amount than the “all condi” one, I have a hard time taking that seriously. And it had to be in half instead of some lesser amount. And funny enough, it’s one of the few food that’s actually mildly interesting because it requires an active element to it, but of course that’s apparently bad for the game because passive effects are more skillful.

Of course this yet again provides the edge to condi. And yea I know this was done because of raids or some kitten dps measuring content there, but….

Now the alternative is butternet squash soup, which is nice and all, but even the lower level versions of them are quite pricey. Privisioner has them, right?

Not that I run power food most of the time anyways….
