Before HoT, I might have seen this with a problem with some classes that lacked good ways of hitting multiple targets or even speed problems reaching a zerg.

After HoT I really don’t see any excuse why you can’t find a way to hit people in a zerg while standing behind one of your own.

Unless you’re some kind of ranger that pews pews in a wall of reflect, that is.

Well, usually the scenario is a thief at 10% health burning all their stuff to get away from me. Normally I could do nothing to catch them, but with the new rocket boots even if 2 won’t close the difference, tipping them with a kick is often just enough to touch them for the final blow. :p And yea, it would not help with escape.

Also not talking about the toolbelt, but at least in WvW RB has also been a godsend vs reapers who would have probably murdered me normally as well.

Major Concern- Mounts and "motion sickness"

Haven’t done the new stuff but…

I rarely get motion sickness anywhere in the games I play. I also go on for hours in WvW and sometimes run around in circles when I’m bored. The game’s great on your eyes. I would say I have gotten more sickness from reading some of these posts downplaying other people’s problems though.

Still though, there’s a few sections of newer content that have made me feel a bit strange and thus caused me to stop.

So please stop it with the “How do you play any games with motion sickness?” because it’s obviously specific situations and I doubt people with serious issues go play FPS all day, and if they bought this game (Gw2) and played it for months without issues… then honestly, if you can’t even put together why it would be such a stupid question to ask or even consider in the first place, then as politely as I can put it, you probably shouldn’t be sharing your “knowledge” with us in the first place especially when I see irresponsible and/or flat out dangerous advice on the very first page.

Squad bullying

in WvW

Posted by: ArchonWing.9480

ArchonWing.9480

It is a difficult scenario. As time goes on, inner circles get formed and exclusion become natural. And unfortunately, given the the power creep of hot highlighting build wars, it has proven more efficient to be exclusive . And even between players that are superior individually are at a disadvantage when not in comms.

I also do feel that guilds run in their own because…. It is a guild run.

But, thete is also much that is lost, when groups get too insular. Especially when this game has been out for so long and vets grow tired of repeating the same kitten that they get a bit neophobic. It also results in stagnation as methods bwcome more ingrained

And certainly on my end, while I do make concessions for the greater good (i don’t run off meta in guild runs) I defintely have some strong opinions on what works and thise disagreements have caused quite a problem so I do have quite an appreciation for people willing to resolve diffrences.

Oh, btw it is quite easy to note the quality if someone’s zerg ability as zerging is fairly straightforward. In general if you don’t suck and you don’t have a terrible personality you will stand out and as a result I am usually very skeptical of the “vet player being oppressed” . Also, vet doesn’t mean you are any good either… I juat think it won’t be hard to get a group if you are indispensable in some from or manner. Unless every griup is really that blind.

In the end this is a player issue and from 5 years of reading these forums, it is something they can’t fix, nor would you want them to.

See 4b. Not talking about guild runs. Talking about partial full squads for hours on end filled with all guilds that exclude for no good reason or abusive reason.

Didn’t say being a vet made me a good player. I am a good player, sometimes really good. Just is. Also happen to be a vet.

Not talking about TS, tho mandatory TS is part of the problem.

I do want anet to fix it, especially if the community cant bring themselves to stop bullying in this limited circumstance, and in fact, over time, are abusing it to the point where I could get players banned – but then we have even less player base, especially when some of these players are good for the server/game play.

Well, guild runs are certainly a tangent, howver giving the number of pug blobs led by a guild run it is more or less leading to a similar mentality though admittingly in my locality they have become one and the same. My point of the game becoming less friendly to newcomers would help support your point, if only a little.

My other point is simply that if you are a valuable asset then it would be foolish for groups to not make concessions, though this goes both ways.

I don’t see any advantage in letting anyone join a squad. If you get placed in squad 8 with 3 base rangers, what has changed? And then the ugly part when someone in ts has no space to get in— who gets the axe?

And of course, I don’t think a squad works if not everyone is on the same page.

what class to tag now that guard is dead?

in WvW

Posted by: ArchonWing.9480

ArchonWing.9480

I also heard that the sky is falling…

Many many Guardians would use a staff just to AA spam in WvW to get as many bags as possible. They would build super tanky, so they can stand in the front line and spam their staff’s AA. ANet seen this and cut the range down. It’s no ones fault except for those who abused this for profit.

Lol this is not why staff is used by frontline guards in wvw.

Bags are a nice reward but not why you use it. A frontline guard jumps in with the commander, uses his GS or hammer with some additional skills to ensure that he survive the worst damage. Then switches to staff to put preassure on the enemy frontline while the backline is doing their job from the sides. Staff 1 Is a great semi-aoe skill that when enough are using it, put quite the preassure on the other frontline.

Yeah that’s all well and good, but what about all those Guards who don’t dive in with the Comm, but just hang back a bit contributing little to the push, other than some stab if they remember to even push that button, and then just spam 1 all day on their stick and never move off that auto attack come hell or high water, well because of them bags yo…

What about them though? Those people are going to do the same thing regardless of class and weaponset

The game shouldn’t be balanced around people that don’t know how to play their character , or even worse, don’t play to win. Though I will not speak for commanders, I think if you randomly asked one if they could magically keep their zerg within, say 900 range, of them at all times, then they would be very happy.

Anyhow, the point about staff is while the damage isn’t very high, a couple of them striking 5 targets does add up and you could further increase it with sigil procs or f1 or whatever. Relevance in zerg fighting often relies on the ability to mid-distance cleave without being screwed over by projectile hate which is often enough to generate downs or take them down. That’s why Rev hammer is so good. It’s perfect for fights at 600 range. And the idea that Rev hammer exists, but staff is the evil OP one that needs to be nerfed is a terrible joke.

And that is the reason why something like frontline scrappers are weak because they’re simply useless out of point blank distance aside from one skill that is on a delay.

The loot isn’t really a big issue anyways, and shouldn’t be a factor. The loot dropped from players (and single enemies in pve, especially HoT content) is trivial. And since the loot system was modified to credit support which guardians do lots anyways, that’s not really going to change matters much either.

T.his also reminds me of how Anet keeps messing with staff ele since it seems the main topic of every patch is how to nerf that weapon. despite it not really being dominant anywhere. I guess they’re just trying to spread the hate this time around?

Finally, I would like to also point out that once upon a time Anet nerfed the range of boons. Virtues and other things used to go out to 1200 range, but this was greatly reduced, which inevitably encouraged running into a tight ball. (well, it always did), but that along with the 10 tons of projectile hate contributed to the blob meta. Well, it was always so, but the current trend suggests that zergs will eventually be running as a singularity, perhaps a black hole meta.

what class to tag now that guard is dead?

in WvW

Posted by: ArchonWing.9480

ArchonWing.9480

Guard isn’t dead.

Just use Mace Shield and hammer (or gs if you really are obsessed for tag for bag). You get bags for healing people too…. You can use shield 4, hammer 3, purging flames, and symbols on the ground for hitting enemies

If you really want your bags…

http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?vVAQNApeSl8AhShYrQwZIwPEHMEFuCmgR4WsNQAkbh8b/A-TViFABIpMAgTBAVK9QTfg67PwnSQCV/R/jAQCPAABAxA-w

Pure of Heart is really the centerpiece as you generate heals for doing aegis to yourself and others; and this happens very often regardless of style. But in reality guardians crap out so much retaliation that it really isn’t an issue.

If you want more bags, then get tankier armor and take rune of the guardian to damage enemies passively and troll people on siege.

As for staff ele, this is what I do; just take more celestial instead of marauders if you feel squishy, but I usually don’t have trouble. Can also take vapor form over lightning flash but I don’t like immobolity. Essentially you camp mainly between earth and water (spam 2 on both) in most dangerous situations then use fire when you have some space. When it’s clear use Eye of the Storm and Overload Air to run over enemies. The build doesn’t have much condi clear, but using wash the pain away when you get loaded can help since you trigger diamond skin.

Revert Guard Staff Changes

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ArchonWing.9480

ArchonWing.9480

Well, it is useless as a weapon. The only thing I use it for is a speed boost on my key runner and as a loot stick.

Which means not that the nerf needs to be reversed but that the Guardian staff needs to be reworked.

Useless?

Only the most common weapon in the game on the most common and meta class (not even HoT, vanilla guard). You’re not even allowed to carry anything but the staff. It’s the primary weapon.

If you play WvW that is.

Since EU was down primetime yesterday we cant really tell the effect but I can tell you… tonights gonna be fun. Oh the rage. The rage of it all.

But granted, I’m guessing this change will only mean that instead of 60/40 guards/necros we will see that inverted… meaning the condi nerf did nothing. Just stack more necros.

Wait did they finally nerf deathly chill so that we can actually use something other than necros?

Logs on to check

Noooooooope.

Lawl.

No one plays WvW. Or at least that’s what they say on the WvW forums. Frequently. ^^

That’s clearly what the balance team thinks, though. The grand majority of changes don’t mention WvW in the reasoning.

It’s not the first or last time WvW has been damaged by changes intended for PvE or PvP.

They only fixed ghost thief, for example, because someone was abusing it in raids.

Incidentially the meta had been moving away from staff anyways, as the concept of range and gank had vanished due to the massive amounts of sustain, projectile hate and point blank condi damage. Essentially it was called the “toilet bowl meta”

It started to look like some variant of this:

Why 300 range on guard Staff 1 now?

in WvW

Posted by: ArchonWing.9480

ArchonWing.9480

Not really, considering melee attacks are already 130 range. 300 range is still more or less point blank.

They should reduce range to 150 and add destroy projectile effect.

I will flip a kittening table if they add anymore projectile hate into this game.
Its already got way more of that than any other game I can recall playing.

~ Kovu

Something like that. It’s one of the reasons big fights have degenerated into a blob where backline and gank have blurred into a blob. Not that it wasn’t already.

Why 300 range on guard Staff 1 now?

in WvW

Posted by: ArchonWing.9480

ArchonWing.9480

Staff isn’t used in PVE, nor in PVP, so this change was one of the few clearly aimed at WvW. The question is why? No one thinks it is too strong, hammer or GS are arguably better.

Of all the nerfs to make to weapons used heavily in WvW you pick guardian staff? I too would really like to know the reasoning behind the decision.

And no, the changes to light fields, and a bit of cooldown reduction on some of the other skills do not make up for it.

It was used as loot stick in pve too.

Absurd, but between that and the balance team taking wvw into account, the former is more likely

WW1 downed state analogy - pro power

in WvW

Posted by: ArchonWing.9480

ArchonWing.9480

Germany would have lost WW2 anyways due to numbers Russia was just way too big with German WPs war too far away, constantly being tapped by stealthspam partisans, and once Moscow hit T3 with the speedy yaks it was only a matter of time. So they pretty much lost upon invading the Soviet Union though even if they didn’t, it was unlikely that Stalin would be a good neighbor.

There was also this wise man named Bismark who thought that fighting a 2 front war was a really stupid idea.) and then kitten cried about pugs not in TS taking up queue space so all their super stacked Master Race guilds could not get in and people pulling the tactivators. Of course IRL, other nations took the time to take down the threa\t instead of backcapping…. (well, SU…)

Incidentally, the use of condi was highly frowned upon especially because of WW1 and people didn’t bother much in WW2 in fear of retaliation. Cept Japan. Then they got blobbed down after tapping the American keep one too many times.

Wait, did we really censor the name of the German fascist? Oh, ok. Kitten’s a better name.

But to be actually productive, I’d like to point out that while the nature of the technological status caused the meat grinder of World War 1, part of it was also due to the commanders and leaders being stubborn and failing to adapt to the times and using antiquated tactics that were doomed to failure, namely charge in and die. Now if this is the lesson to pick up , well…. then I would have definitely equated the Pirate Ship era of HoT launch to World War 1. Plus the massive depopulation of WvW that wiped a huge chunk of it out.

The alternative is wearing polyester, carrying around a rifle, poking ur head over the trench, shooting some1 in the head, then having ur bullets absorbed for 1-2 seconds while he falls to the ground and enters downstate. Then you can finally hit him and fire at him again and finish him…..only he can heal himself so you have to use a bunch of bullets to interrupt and negate the healing. And if some1 else gets near and helps heal him you can fire all the bullets you want but you can’t outrace the speed of the heals with ur bullets. So you run over there into noman’s land with ur bayonet and try to hit them both at the same time by slapping them away from eachother

The real question is if you shot someone in the head, why would you YOLO across lethal trench fire just to “finish them off”?

Oh that gets answered….

Meanwhile ur commander is yelling from the other side of the trench “THIS IS WHY WE DON’T ACCEPT HEROES, MORON!”

Of course, in Guild Wars 2 term, that area with downed is generally shelled with mass cleaves and poison and thus the situation in either real life or in-game is only possible through stupidity. Granted people irl didn’t kill individuals in war for KDR and bags, sooooo….

Personally, I think Its pretty easy to dodge out of the way of coalescence or ruin.

The funny thing is you don’t even have to dodge it. Just strafe. Not even joking, it will miss everytime on someone strafing.

Most people that die to CoR were most likely either

1.) Already low on health, and anything would have killed them
2.) Tried to facetank the enemy, and would have been cleaved by anything
3.) Standing still.

It was once a BS skill, but post nerf it seems fairly managable.

Also note that while you could probably hit random stragglers for 12k, in practice it may be a little less due to easy tempest aoe protection, frost aura and also random rite of the great dwarf and whatever voodoo invul is around these days.

Finally, in big groups, it is not just about numbers. Sacrificing group survival for more personal dps can work, but it may also have indirect effects when your own people drop and end up rallying the people you just downed.

That being said, I guess hammer could use a rework since it is just a zerg weapon atm.

Seem to have a bad habit of missing that stunbreak, especially on Gaze of Darkness; just spamming facet of light won’t save you from most cases.

But yea, hard counters is what makes small scale fighting pretty lame especially for those poor souls that run non-stealth power builds.

Auto Loot Dosen't work on death...

If laying dead is such a hazard then why don’t they just change it so that you auto warp to the nearest wp on death instantly?

Because not every situation is a hazardous one, eg fight ends, people come across your dead body.

And they have been discouraging it, without prohibiting it. There was no 5 minute timer in the past. Of course , there are always extenuating circumstances and the timer is meant to compensate for it.

Sorry I do not understand? You do not run a track at all? I mean you have all the stuff you can get from every track? I guess I do not get it? I like free gold…

If it were plain gold I doubt there would be complaints but the issue comes from the hidden cost of managing all those chests (sometimes chests within chests) and having the issue of bloated inventories which get full. And it can be quite tough since I think there’s a limit to the bouncing chests before they overflow in your inventory especially if you change maps.

Now I do understand that it is in Anet’s best interest to not just reward flat gold since gold doesn’t have any value on its own without all these materials the economy doesn’t work etc etc etc and also because managing your crap is a part of the game and the effort spent to monetize something is a factor in balance. But nobody likes it when people are like “I can’t fight! My bags are full!” especially if it’s a commander cough. Dropping a merchant for everyone in the map has become a courtesy move atm, lol.

In other words, some people would rather just be left alone and recieve nothing exchange for some peace and quiet. And honestly it has caused some distraction. For example, I’m getting annoyed at that “you received 0 pips” popup that covers my supply count.

They have addressed the problem somewhat as the rewards from the newer tracks are far more consistent, and most importantly, stackable.

Auto Loot Dosen't work on death...

The player base doesn’t want it to change and Anet doesn’t want it to change. Rewarding dead bodies is never going to happen. It’s very odd that a few posters here think there is some sort of discussion to be had.

Inviting any form of just hitting something to a certain point then afking for full rewards when dead has absolutely no chance of happening. Just entitlement to the fullest when we were given auto loot not too long ago.

And that’s the thing. It doesn’t matter what other games do. In this game, it would give an incentive to providing a negative contribution that makes others work harder, and that is why I think it’s a bad idea. I mean sure, people come in all kinds of skill level and it’s inevitable that stronger players will have to carry others— however we shouldn’t make it more convenient to get carried.

It’s okay if you want to lay dead and get ress’d later. You just have to deal with the consequence of not getting a few crappy spikes and bags of marginal value. In WvW, loot already has a much higher QoL baked in too. Bags already teleport to your location if you are alive therefore there is actually no need to be near the defeated targeted at all (you can respawn immediately and receive any incoming bags anyways….). You can even do things like tag a champion lord , run off, and then get the champ bag in front of you!

So yea, quacks like a duck and walks like a duck, thy name is entitlement.

your validating my point “Bags already teleport to your location if you are alive therefore there is actually no need to be near the defeated targeted at all (you can re-spawn immediately and receive any incoming bags anyways….).” Why not just have it go in your inventory. I don’t know what you guys are talking about

I didn’t validate anything. I’m saying it’s already easy enough.

All of the auto loot features make it so that you can get the loot instantaneously regardless if you died or not. The old mechanics are still overlaying the new auto loot features. The new auto loot features allow you to BYPASS the old loot mechanics, by raising up instantly.

It does not allow you to do anything you couldn’t have done manually. This is a false statement. Bags following you predates autoloot. And these can only be done by a non-defeated player.

WHY NOT update it and streamline it so it just goes into your inventory? WHY SHOULD waypointing instantly give you the bags as opposed to laying there for a couple of seconds and wondering if you should wait for a raise? WHY should that affect whether Mobs you tagged that were killed, shouldn’t give loot into your inventory directly. There is no difference. I dont understand why you guys think that laying dead would then “ENCOURAGE” staying dead to “get your loot” which = “entitlement”

Because by laying down dead, you are making it harder for other people that are still fighting by interfering with their interact ability, in particular ressing people that are downed, not defeated. PvErs and WvWers know that ressing double downed during a fight is nothing but a hazard because it prevents the ressing of downed players that are still contributing to the fight as well as endangering the ressers themselves.

So yea, there is a difference. By laying dead, you are a hazard. You are providing a negative contribution. And that shouldn’t be rewarded.

Apparently RAISING UP instantly = “not entitlement?” it also = “not being a leech?” it also negates any “death penalty” associated with death. so yah streamline it….. which is the point of my thread.

Also how is laying dead any different then waypointing instantly and then immediately AFKing? While your in downed state you have your map pulled up and are spamming the waypoint, while not using any downed state skills or seeing if anyone is going to raise you, so that you can raise instantly because you don’t want the loot to fall on the ground (this is the type of behavior that this encourages)). How is this behavior any better then just having it go into your inventory and then waypointing?

Yes, you have the decency of not cluttering out the battlefield, endangering other players, and have the CHOICE of running back. Whether you do it or not is another story. But it is a step further than just laying there and gets more rewards.

why symbolic guard isn't in the meta for wvw?

in Guardian

Posted by: ArchonWing.9480

ArchonWing.9480

It’s about scaling and mobility. Weapons like scepter and focus scale very poorly in larger fights; scepter being mostly single target and projectile weapons being useless due to the large amount of projectile hate spam that is possible. Focus doing not much of anything with 3 blocks being gone in an instant. Shout builds also scale better than meditation builds which are naturally more self centered. And of course, nobody can stand in one place for long because even 20 weak things like symbols of swiftness are going to kill someone.

The current wvw meta involves running around in a tight ball with boon and condi spam. Shouts scale better with more people, especially AOE stability which guardians have a lot of, in partciular the f3 which breaks allies out of stuns.

On the condi side, the guardian purging flames not only clears condis, but does some burn damage without need for invest, but it works nice with necro epidemics.

Have you given up yet on new rewards?

in WvW

Posted by: ArchonWing.9480

ArchonWing.9480

No, but I don’t aim just for rewards for WvW. They are secondary and are earned through playing the game, so as long as I play the game mode, I would have never have given up because I know it is inevitable anyways. I mean there’s no practical value to it. Given that a lot of people turn down character quality in WvW due to performance, it’s likely most people won’t even know what you’re actually wearing. And legendaries themselves don’t really have any useful value more than “I grinded. A lot. Here.” so whether it comes tomorrow or next year is really the same kitten.

Honestly, if you’re not here to come in and out as quickly as possible, I don’t see a problem.

Oh btw, I’ve never finished the diamond chests. If you ask me, I do feel it’s a little steep, but I understand part of it is on me.

Definitely needs repeatable;micromanaging reward tracks is annoying at best and hazardous at worst.

Also it would seem the newer reward tracks at least have the decency of making most of their chests identical so they stack in a few, so pick those for now. I would certainly like it if they did something similar for everything else.
