Will we ever going to see Gear Progression?

Trying to believe there will be no better gears after ascended is like trying to believe exotic was the ceiling back then.
I expect once they are done with legendary amulets, rings and accessory, the next tier gears will be coming. Next xpac will be very likely associated with legendary trinkets.
New tier gears should be on 3rd xpac.We are already on wow-esque road with raid (trinity) and mounts (next xpac). So, expecting a vertical gear progression is not too far fetch imo.
Except exotics being the ceiling was not really a thing for long. Ascended was introduced within a few months of release. It was due to complaints that exotic was too easy, and also suggested that ascended was planned already but they didn’t have the time to implement it.
It’s possible they’ll have new gear in the future, but nothing in the last 4 years has been particularly surprising.
You don’t. But it’s nice to have a good amount once you hit 80 so you can gear up in oranges, no?
Sure, preferably a self-crafted set
. First thing I did was craft my frist character a full exotic viper’s set (you would say “a waste of money” but it was fun, and I still use it in WvW).
That would’t have been possible without having my tailor leveled at 400 beforehand. I even had enough gold to buy most of the nesserary lineseed oil and some hardenend leather from the TP. Without selling a single material and without any farming. Gold really isn’t an issue, even for casuals like me.
Well. That is certainly fine if it works for you. Though you don’t get to craft vipers immediately on hitting 80 until you have bought the recipe. I guess you could have used less than exotics but given the common complaints about difficulty and gold on these forums, I wouldn’t suggest that to people looking fir advice.
It is intresting you were thinking I would call viper exotic a waste and I do, but there is a limit to that being an opinion. Because to me, selling materials and getting them back may result in lost gold is the same thing as exotics ultimately ending up as lost gold when you replace it with ascended. But ut really isn’t because you are making use of something for somethibg better.
Anyhow, fun is subjective and when giving general advice I try to avoid personal prefernce, so if it sounds minmax which it really isn’t it is, I am just writing with the assumption people do not share the same idea of fun. So it is not really an attack on someone.’s sryle.
Honestly though I think my suggestions work because it lets people realize they can get some decent progression and gold which lets them do stuff they want even before 80. That way people can realize there is no need to rush and just play the game. And l 30-60 is a good time for this as one staets to unlock more traits, skills, and waypoints, so there are lot of things to do. I have seen too many people blaze to 80 without a plan and thry think it is impossible to get anything because they want the world.
I don’t expect anyone else to agree but there you are.
Maybe they should reduce the amount of thick leather to transmute to hardened leather.
Currently it’s 25 to 1…..
Turrets die easily and need to be replaced, so it does require a degree of active play. Not much, but still.
Are salt whispers really a bad thing? I mean not only can you report them, it makes good humor when you save screenshots and pass it around.
Sorta like trophies, even for someone like me that gets offended really easily.

You know what’s sad about all this, you all typed all this up, for 3 pages straight, for nothing and he (or she) is already gone. They are not coming back to comment or read this. You all had solid points on what he/she could do to stay and have fun or things they could work towards past just getting better gear, (mastery grind, raids) and wait until next expac for what may be next to work for, but they already said their thing and left not even caring to check back.
Its like, they went to an empty podium to say their peace then didn’t care if anyone was around to even listen.
To be fair, discussions like this changed the way I viewed things forever.
I come from Diablo, so the idea of a level and gear game without the endless power escalation was a completely foreign concept to me.
Granted, I don’t mind either way, but this does seem like the better way.
Well, it really did seem like they just introduced missions, gated some items behind it, and then called it a day.
Nothing has changed since, it would seem.
And they’ve been hyping more than 4+ cores since bulldozer. That sure went well! And how long has 8gb been a standard? Then there’s this dx12 hot air as well.
Well for being the master race, PCs sure take it’s sweet time adopting technology
Theres basicly not been any x86 PC CPU produced since 2005 or something… Yet we’re still seeing 32bit Windows and applications. Like… why?!? Even potato level CPUs today – actual potatoes with wires in them – are x64.
Legacy potatoes. Though honestly, I’m a bit curious on who would use 32-bit Windows 10. I guess it’s because M$ wants to make everyone use it.
I gather that it’s very hard to write multithreaded programs. Since I’m not a programmer, I’m just going to assume as such.
But I guess not. Recently Starcraft 1 was updated and the system requirements increased dramatically to require open gl 2.1 which is like a 10 year old technology. Cue the people demanding a refund (for a game that just became free to play and was selling for $10 the last 15 years) because their rotting potato couldn’t run it.
Because leveling isn’t the same as leveling the crafting discipline. Also I never said the other materials aren’t needed.
There are much more important things such as building enough bank to pay for waypoints, gathering tools, upgrades, and equipment. All of that isn’t made by sub t5
materials. So they are turned into gold. But OP said they are leveling AND want to start a crafting discipline, and that is perfectly fine since crafting progress promotes your leveling progress.
The OP stated:
my question is what crafting should i pick up first while i am leveling or is it better to just sell my crafting mats?
So my answer is to sell crafting materials while leveling and then target various professions. Obviously you can keep some at your discretion or level some, but I’m just going to say that doing that will for the most part slow you do, as the crafts just don’t help much at low levels.
And sure, crafting does give you experience, but with free tomes that isn’t that big of a deal anyways. There’s also some incentive to slow down in the mid-levels so you can pick up a lot of gold from salvaging/selling.
You seem to approach this game in a capitalitic sense, like monopoly: Build up stocks quickly etc. But this is not how this game works, in my opinion. There are no returns or rents on your gold stock… In fact, you loose 15% in fees each time you use the TP, so you literally delete gold when selling mats just to buy tham back later.
I think you missed something. Yes, you might lose gold. But it’s inconsequential compared to getting level 80 equipment faster, the ability to buy upgrades from the gem store, more slots, salvage kits.
Also, you really do not need a lot of gold while leveling, especially travelling is cheap. While I was leveling and crafting at the same time, I was occasionally short on materials, but never on gold.
You don’t. But it’s nice to have a good amount once you hit 80 so you can gear up in oranges, no?
Up to 80, I would salvage everything and sell everything that isn’t mithril, silk, elder wood, or thick leather (you will need a lot eventually.)
Why would you do that if you are just about to level your first crafting discipline? You need all those materials. It is way more expensive to buy them off the TP later, especially the lower tier materials.
Also it is not true that the other mats are not needed at lvl80, the ascended refined materials use a lot of lower tier materials. And they are harder to come by at lvl80.
Because leveling isn’t the same as leveling the crafting discipline. Also I never said the other materials aren’t needed. They’re simply of lower priority and are secondary to other needs.
There are much more important things such as building enough bank to pay for waypoints, gathering tools, upgrades, and equipment. All of that isn’t made by sub t5
materials. So they are turned into gold.
It’s far more efficient to hit 80, and start farming, and then buy everything back (or farm as needed). Holding 50 gold worth of material when you only have 5 gold in your wallet and aren’t 80 yet doesn’t help much. When you have several hundred gold, the 50 or so gold of materials is going to be inconsequential, and you can simply buy it back. Sometimes with buy orders, the loss from TP fees is so minimal, and often times it actually comes out positive.
In the past when crafting gave a hefty chunk of experience, I could seem some logic in that, but with the advent of Tomes of Knowledge, I don’t think it’s worth it. With the exception fo Chef, sinking money and mats into a half done crafting profession is worse than having none at all, as it really only starts to pay off at 400.
One can also use a spare slot to open bags on a midlevel character (use the free tomes you get to level it).
As for ascended, that is wayyyyy down on the road map, and simply isn’t a thought atm.
I would start with either a weapon or armor discipline that fits to your class and add one of the generic (chef or jeweler) as a second. The reason is that this spreads your demand of materials more evenly. I started out with Tailor and Artificier as a new player and ALWAYS was short on fangs, claws, scales etc.
I actually don’t recommend jeweler at all beyond the achievement, as besides a few niche crafts, it’s effectively a dead end profession. Exotic jewelry is too quickly obsoleted by ascended ones that are bought with laurels (or even quicker through guild missions/fractals). It is cheap though, but still a luxury and I think as a result it should be done with spare resources.

Most of them probably are adults. You might be shocked at how many people are in their late 30’s to early 40’s that rage and bicker at the slightest hint of confrontation. It’s not something that’s exclusive to younger people.
If by chance you just mean a server with more mature people, you probably won’t find one. I suggest taking a vacation to another server, hop around a bit until you find a place your comfortable.
+2
Some adults are probably worse than the kids at this point.
I think it actually did.
XP only requires 64 mb of ram and recommends 128, while vista’s minimum is 512 and that is certainly not enough. IIRC, 7 and Vista would take about a gig up front.
Anyhow, as I stated before, even 2 gb will run and low settings. The requirements were not made just for XP in mind. By 2012, XP was already on its way out and 7 was the dominant system (still is). The reason why Vista gets remembered as a memory hog is because while there was definitely a lot of wasted resources, however, it’s also because 1gb of ram was a lot when it came out. Windows 7 actually had higher requirements, but by that time computers had caught up, as well as fixing vista’s problems.
But again, this isn’t really isn’t relevant as it’s unlikely the ram is the problem, and also the hassle of getting more ram and a 64-bit system is probably not worth it.

Agree regards DRR3/DDR4 prices. I tend to look only at one vendors prices as I have never had any problems with their sticks. Motherboards are another matter I kinda like a bit of history with them.
The pull for the new stuff just isn’t there for me so anything bought needs to be ultra cheap to justify the spend. The new stuff seems to be targeted at games that don’t yet exist.
I definitely don’t advocate buying hardware for games that don’t exist yet. If you want to play recent game at medium settings, and occasional check out a new game, then it really makes no sense to spend a ton of money on nothing. It’s perfectly fine to say, buy a new $100 video card every 3 years and this will help you play your old games better and maybe take a shot at new games. But at the same time, one wants to make sure the base is solid enough to not bottleneck the video card.
Fortunately, most games worry more about the video card…. except MMOs like this one.
That being said, I have to say “future proofing” does feel overrated. For example, you buy a great new motherboard…. only to have intel change sockets every 2-3 generations. You buy new ram only to find out they come out out with something new. Granted, AMD says this new format is going to last, but I don’t really trust anyone anymore. And people have been saying that dual cores have been obsolete since 2010 but they still can play modern games. And they’ve been hyping more than 4+ cores since bulldozer. That sure went well! And how long has 8gb been a standard? Then there’s this dx12 hot air as well. There’s just such a big chance that yes, these things will happen, but whatever hardware one has on right now may not even live to see that day!
There are of course, other things, such as getting more Vram and Ram which will help in the future, of course. But how much can you futureproof stuff that was meant to be budget anyways? Then you get people buying 4gb rx 460s when they could be saving a bit more for 470s. And so on with 8gb 470s to 480s.

In general, any low cooldown aoe/ cleave will help a lot regardless of what you are using.
As a DH:
Throw your spear at them and don’t pull. Most thieves already can recite a contingency plan for the infamous cast tons of traps-pull plan in their sleep. And then the DH realizes that they just burned their cooldowns to get the DD down to 26% but absolutely no way of finishing.
A lot of less good thieves will start to panic and hit all the buttons or outright break off. Sometimes the glassier ones will start to slowly burn down. At this point a lot of them will break off and the next time you come in when you actually do it. Also remember that smite condition does good damage so using your heal skill can be part of the final burst.
As an scrapperr:
You can turn the tables on them with sneak gyro. If they try to kill it, that’s your cue to use the reveal ability.
Condis are better vs thieves as it is difficult for you to really pursue them at all. Most scrapper builds taken out of a hat will generally stalemate a thief at worst. I prefer to use elixir gun and acid bomb so I can at least breakaway if other unsolicited people come in.
As a druid:
As one of the few classes whose mobility can rival them, you have a lot more control over the fight as a result. tl;dr let them come to you. If things go south, use the celestial shadow to make a clean getaway. Don’t just stand there and shoot them point blank though.
As a Daredevil:
Really depends on how they approach this. But note your steal gives you that stealth skill. That is often game changing so don’t waste it. Hard to say, but it often comes down to who wastes more stuff and leaves themselves open to a counterattack. This is especially evident if say, they waste their vault recklessly.
Typically speaking, a daredevil that attacks another DD is either an opportunist (evident), really good, or really stupid. This is on the knowledge that even with a skill gap on equal ground, the lesser thief can always disengage.
They’re usually pretty epic fights (more so if you’re using the same weapons) or really dumb (someone runs away, or you splat them in 0.2 seconds)
As a Herald:
I really don’t know. I just use whatever skill 2 is and pray.
(edited by ArchonWing.9480)
Speed bonuses don’t stack, and there’s a cap on how fast you go, so hidden thief’s speed bonus really only works in combat since your base speed is slower in combat.
You can take the signet still, though I prefer using
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Unhindered_Combatant
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Expeditious_Dodger
This will be permanent swiftness with the occasional dodge.
Combine this with a shortbow and shadowstep, and you can go pretty fast.
In order to reduce the chance of being slowed down by enemies I take:
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Hard_to_Catch
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Don't_Stop
For utilities besides shadowstep, I also take either blinding powder or shadow refuge. The former is good for on-demand stealth, while the later allows you to sneak past crowded areas. I also take haste for the occasional quickness so I can gather faster.
Finally I take the trickery line to increase max initiative so you can use shortbow to travel even more.
Up to 80, I would salvage everything and sell everything that isn’t mithril, silk, elder wood, or thick leather (you will need a lot eventually.)
In terms of crafting, I’d go Chef first, because it’s one of the cheaper choices and has a lot of utility. Then I’d go with Weaponsmith, Huntsman, or Artifactor.
This depends on what weapons you will use. Pick the craft that covers the most. During this time, as you progress in craft, you may try crafting the crafter’s backpacks.
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Crafter%27s_backpack
These end up as exotic backpieces that have similar stats to ascended backpieces and are only a few gold in total to craft.
After that, you’ll want to juggle around the 2 remaining weaponcrafts depending on what you need, maybe a detour at jeweler (not important), and then the armor craft that you need, but I’d put that at the end, as it is the most expensive.
It’s very difficult as margins are thin and it changes a lot.
Eh, margins can be substantial, too. The problem is that anyone can craft and anyone has access to the same tools to seek out profitable opportunities. So while it’s easy enough to find something that generates a gold of profit quickly, it’s more difficult to find the multiple opportunities.
That’s exactly my point. You’re going to be looking at the same sites other people are, and if you’ve thought of something that means someone else has thought of it, probably before you have. And some people devote a lot of time to this.
That doesn’t mean you can’t turn a profit, but it does mean a casual effort is going to range from somewhere to marginal to risky.
I don’t want to spread the idea that you can print gold with it, but it certainly is viable.
The tl;dr is that your edge is found against people that spend less time researching on this than you. Thankfully, that’s more than enough. But it also means that going into a crowded place with people that you don’t have a clear edge over is going to result in problems. This is why one can’t just read “xxxTPagentxxx’s guide to getting rich” as easy, and often times it ends up as snake oil. Not to mention this is kind of a long run thing, and it is hard to perceive results.
(edited by ArchonWing.9480)
DDR4 ram and DDR3 ram cost about the same lol. That actually goes against the older platform!
And sure, the motherboards are more expensive, but b250 mobos are going as low as $65. You’re saving at best $30. It’s also a matter of time before these things become as cheap as skylake ones.
I’m not saying you should throw it away. Obviously, if you already have an fm2 system, I’m not telling you to upgrade to a g4560. That would make no sense, but if you’re talking about buying new parts, then there’s reasons why I would recommend the g4560 and not the old stuff.
(edited by ArchonWing.9480)
Connection doesn’t affect fps; usually you would note the high ping.
I would say turn down reflections and shadows, but as you noted that this happens no matter what, you probably want to monitor your temperatures while the game is running.
http://openhardwaremonitor.org/
And check yourself for malware https://www.malwarebytes.com/
However, depending on your computer, chances are there is nothing you can do; there are some areas in the game that just kill performance for seemingly no reason.
(edited by ArchonWing.9480)
It’s very difficult as margins are thin and it changes a lot.
The safest things to do are elonian leather/deldrimor (also spiritwood, but very unreliable) but that’s time gated and thus why a profit in the first place, and if you have tons of the HoT t7 mats and obsidians shards which don’t do anything for people like me, jeweled patches are a way to turn them into gold. You generally will make more than just selling the materials though.
Chef also has potential for stuff as there are many options. These are often much more high risk (and high reward)
(edited by ArchonWing.9480)
You can run it on 2 gb even if it is not the best idea. It will stutter and crash eventually but it won’t cause it to refuse to run unless you have tons of stuff running. Vista uses as much as 7 does mostly and I did it on 7.
It doesn’t matter anyways because one would have to change to the 64 bit version to take advantage of more ram and vista is no longwr supported….
Given the cost of a new os and ram, and the age of the computer itself, there is no real reason to bother upgrading at all, besides something cheap off ebay.
(edited by ArchonWing.9480)
The CPU technically would work, but it’d be pretty awful. It’s being held back by that weak integrated graphics.
You could try picking up a used card for 20 bucks on Ebay or something…. Unfortunately choices are limited due to the 32-bit system.

Broken mechanics….
How about just list the ones that aren’t? Would be faster.

What people haven’t realized yet when this criticism is tossed out is you chase oranges instead of apples.
You just make the grind for something else so not everyone has to be forced into it.
What we have here is literally people saying oranges are for casuals.
Buddah is not a god…. just saying. Let’s just say if he comes in and does the opposite of what he was known to preach, things would change. Or more likely, be regarded as a false prophet; stuff like that happens often.
I was simply giving examples of Jesus and Buddha…. just pretend that we are the GW2 characters and we act like the Commander did in this episode if you’re a follower of Jesus or Buddha or any other faith, god, spirit etc. etc.
Most of the humans worship gods and prays to them.
I hope ANet wont make us kill one of our god, or even more of them.![]()
Atleast give us a unique and special treatment to the Human characters just like Sylvari character did in HoT if we’re going against the Six.
My point is that different religions fundamentally view god in different ways. The incarnation of divinity being a single form is inherent to a monotheistic religion. Buddhists would not view this a single being the same way Christians do. And there’s different levels of being devout. I would assume the more devout followers are going to assume the possibility of this being a trick or an illusion as this wouldn’t be the first or last time that would happen that an imposter claims to be something.
Here, I understand that they may worship their gods, but it may not be for the same reason we over on Earth do. For example, take the gods of Greek mythology. The gods were to be feared and respected, and thus worshiped as such. But it didn’t mean people didn’t go against them or the gods couldn’t be “wrong” even if they were subordinate to them. I use quotes because gods are not subject to human’s sense of morality. But there’s a conflict.
Furthermore, the relations between humans and gods in Tyria are also different. The relationship manifests actively, physically, in the human world as magic and power. It’s not really surprising that physical events are going to affect things more. For example, say the humans lost their powers suddenly. Would that faith be weakened?
Back on Earth, one doesn’t affirm their spirituality through throwing fireballs or calling down storms. We may congregate, but that is to share it with other people. There is no need to prove to anyone, or even yourself, something that essentially can never be taken away because it is part of something beyond the world itself.
There are other critical differences such as humans not being the only sentient species and the fact that the PC has fought against actual forces of nature that control the world, which isn’t really normal even for Tyrian standards.
Whether or not this a symbol of humanTyrian arrogance remains to be seen, of course. Consider a frequent narrative in religion is the relation to how special humans are in their relations to the divine, this concept is heavily challenged not only by the other races but by the world itself.
EDIT: Also, did anyone actually threaten to kill him? The PC says he must be stopped, and this was after minions were unleashed. This is a little more than having a disagreement with a god; said god may have tried to kill them. I mean, if this is just to have a cheap plot twist to sell more episodes and as a result kill off a character (not that it hasn’t happened before), then sure, I would not approve.
(edited by ArchonWing.9480)
It’d be nice, but then they’d have to deal with the “Omg I bought 26 sets of tools, I demand a refund!” thing that will inevitably occur.
That’s purely a discipline issue. If people can’t even do something as simple as NOT DOING anything, then it’s not a problem with the game design.
If people keep doing that, I would simply not run the trek as a group and simply fire it off constantly so people can find their own spot for credit.
It’s not that hard.
Also, why do you have trolls in your guild? Might be time to start trimming the roster. What we do is have everyone step away a small distance from the point, far enough away to be unable to interact with it. You don’t have to be ON the point to get credit, only the general vicinity therefore there never is a reason to rush ahead. In fact, there’s a good chance that if people go afk, they will still get credit at this point. When everyone is in place, then the person in charge moves forward and then tells everyone to move forward, and then hits it. Everyone moving forward should be an optional step, but it is done to be safe.
If someone rushes into it beforehand, then you know who it is. Give them a warning to not do it next time. And if there’s a next time, then kick them.

Just checked in game, unfortunately it doesn’t actually salvage the stack. Still one at a time :’(
Sounds like a bug if they put the consume all for berries.
Wait, you apparently can “consume all” for berries And now salvaging the others salvages the entire stack.
When the heck did that happen? Well, that’s pretty much it for me. I have no real complaints.
(edited by ArchonWing.9480)
I don’t tuink boosters or transmutation charges could be considered must haves but it is a good point. If it is too good then it gets considered mandatory.
Of course I also fear the same from upping the cap. People may go off about how hard they got to 300 and have to do it again. The difference between 300 and 350 would be the difference between exotic and ascended….
Yea, I’ve never touched scribing. :p
I was referring to actual Boosters though; can scriber do that?
It was stated that a character slot was only added because of the mistreatment of veteran players. One of their complaints (not the poster’s) being that they didn’t get a slot when a new class was going to be released.
You said that they shouldn’t have a problem this time as they now know better.
I made a comment that they do and just won’t release a new class. They avoid that particular situation entirely.
When I claimed that they would know better, I meant that with past knowledge of past complaints that they would find a way to appease certain veteran players better. A character slot is just one example. The idea that they want to avoid this complaint by not making a new character thus not requiring new character slots is an insane conclusion, because it falsely assumes that adding a new class necessitates that one must have a new slot free and is the sole use of it.
And really, is that a solution to anything? Not make new classes?
You then went off on character slots having some value and how nobody would complain about getting them.
I then used said that Anet could give players 100G and they wouldn’t complain either. I then posed a question asking if it is really necessary for the extra to be included and how a character slot would be any different. Different pertaining to whether it would be necessary or not.
Things then deviated over semantics on what is or isn’t a gift as well as what the intent was. All of which didn’t matter.
Actually it does matter. You equivocated 100g for a character slot, and then made the logical leap that if 100 gold isn’t necessary therefore giving a character slot doesn’t matter either when we were arguing including free stuff as gifts to veteran players. So of course, the gift itself matters.
This aint about semantics. It’s about logic. Also adding 100g to each player does have some economic implications as well, more than adding a slot that may or may not be used.
And whether anything is necessary is not only results in a truism. That is, yes, we know technically speaking they don’t have to do anything. That doesn’t actually add anything and I’m not really sure why we’re discussing nothing. So what else is there to talk about beyond “semantics”?
(edited by ArchonWing.9480)
Some people also like to proclaim they hate something but [insert reason here] forces them to do it.
It’s the new way that games are going, only requiring you to purchase the latest version. It’s ultimately the best choice for an aging game.
Vets already have had access to achievements that will never be accessible again, and any number of items that have become much more difficult to get (read: mystic forge weapons), as well as free unlocks of living story. Conversely, a new player would have to pay gems or money to unlock the past 2 seasons of living story, several zones, and also not have had the benefit of the snowball effect of so called “old money” and Daily Rewards. I’d make a strong claim that previous economic imbalances have favored older players.
As someone that started a few days after release, the best way to show appreciation to me is to maintain the game and continue to make improvements so it runs as smoothly as possible as well as listening to concerns.
Also, I’m pretty sure one did get a free character slot for HoT, if they pre-ordered and owned the core game. I never paid for my 9th slot, nor did I buy any of the deluxe editions.
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/pre-purchase-community-address/
For all players who registered the core Guild Wars 2® game prior to January 23, 2015 and who upgrade their account by prepurchasing and registering any Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns edition before Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns‘ launch, we will add one additional character slot to your Guild Wars 2 account.
Yes, they eventually added the character slot to pre-orders, but only after they got SAVAGED in the press for their miserable treatment of existing customers.
Well, we shouldn’t have the problem this time, if they know better.
Probably because we won’t get a new class? Hypothetically.
There are still uses for a character slot, somehow.
If we get complaints that “Omg I have a free character slot, and I don’t know what to do with it! How dare you?” then I owe you a mystic coin.
They could also give every player that buys the expansion 100G. You wouldn’t get any complaints from that but is it actually necessary for it to have been included? How’s a character slot any different?
Same difference between getting someone a gift, and just flat out giving them money.
It technically is the same thing, but the intent would be different.
A gift by definition isn’t essential.
Giving them money is a gift and the intent is the same. We can go on and on with the semantics of this but Anet is obligated to include anything beyond the expansion.
Actually the intent is fundamentally different. When you give someone a gift instead of money, the use becomes fundamentally restricted to whatever you bought them; while money means “You can do whatever you want with it”
Likewise, giving a character slot would have the intent of getting people to make new characters while giving people gold wouldn’t have that same effect.
Though I’m not really sure what you’re trying to argue.
I’m arguing that they’re not required to include anything beyond the expansion. The argument deviated into one about semantics because you’re trying to refute my example when it doesn’t really matter.
I could say the same to you. Except you refuted a point that I never made.
First off, of course they’re not required to include anything beyond the expansion. Heck, the new expansion could be one map and they could still call it that. I don’t think I was ever arguing they were obligated to do such a thing and one of my posts above contradict it as well.
And you also refuted a character slot suggestion on the basis of there might not be new classes. That’s a red herring, to say the least.

There are also many players that have issues with crafting exotic armors. I imagine an extra tier or nine is going to push them out.
I mean, it’s fine and all, but this game wasn’t meant for this kind of thing. Honestly, it should have been obvious when the latest gear tier was over 3 years ago, with a number of complaints. Even the most casual of players would have figured that out by now.

Lol, funny topic. :p
Loot.
If you play a utility healer in your zerg group, i greatly admire your willingness to sacrifice your loot gains for the victory of your group.
Actually not much of a sacrifice but this may be due to selfish tendencies. Fact is, if your group dies, then you will suffer from less loot over time. You may become a bag too, which is negative loot. Therefore, it can be in your best interest to sacrifice a little loot for bigger overall gains.
That being said, this is why I play something like staff ele, which can heal but still tag loot with water 1/water 2. My icicles hurt still….
Pugs.
Yes, you actually sacrifice the players around you. If you are a commander and sacrifice certain pugs following your zerg in order to out-maneuver and gain an advantage against the enemy zerg by using them as bait, I admire your ability to make tough decisions for the greater good.
I generally sacrifice people that I know are going to die anyways. Either they don’t know how to pull out of the circles after getting up,heading to the lord’s room no matter what, or are just plain ineffective. It’s nothing personal. I just think the time spent keeping them alive is less efficient because it’s more risk than it is worth and honestly they’re probaly better off being dead 90% of the fight. You can’t rallybot anyone if you die before anyone else goes down!
Objectives.
If you sacrifice defending your T3 keep to take down the enemy’s T3 keep, I admire your determination to inflict pain on the enemy. Of course, some commanders give up defending their T3 keep because they were more interested in fights happening elsewhere. Your loyalty to the server is well noted.
This decision generally only holds relevance when your own keep is going to fall anyways. But it’s good you mention t3 keeps, as it is quite annoying to have people cry wolf over everything and that leads to the above effects you described. “Omfg they flipped S and SE camp! Bring the zerg (against 3 people) @#$% you Commander!”
Commander.
This usually happens when there is a mutiny. The commander shouts ‘Charge!’ and leads head first into the enemy zerg, only to realize that he was the only one who charged. I suppose the zerg did a mutiny and left their commander to die.
Well depends on the commander. Respect is earned, not given, and commanders that lead suicide charges to chase egos and white whales sometimes also have to be sacrificed for the greater good. We have a few commanders that command better when they’re dead anyways. Of course, I also see this as a last resort since usually 40 people making the wrong decision is still better than 4 groups of 15 disagreeing with each other even if they know what is “right”

What about using luck as a crafting ingredient for making MF boosters?
That could be an interesting choice for people that haven’t maxed out luck yet. As in pursue a short term boost or a long term boost. And for those that have maxed it, it’s just more MF.
I don’t need any more ascended trinkets right now. All my alts have full sets. I’d rather consume them for UM, because I can then spent the UM on T6 crafting mats I need for legendaries. But then, this works with berries and it’s PITA with rubies/shards/wood. There needs to be a vendor which converts the non-consumable ones to UM.
So you are spending time collecting berries but don’t have the time to turn them into Unbound Magic? If there was just a solution to that…
Are you also buying hazelnuts with shells and then don’t eat them because you don’t have time to crack them? And then you keep buying them instead of just getting already cracked hazelnuts?
That’s a poor analogy. If it were solely berries and magic, it’d be fine…
Unbound magic is required for all 5 maps, while we also have to gather things for each individual map. And we don’t buy any of the trophies; they’re often rewarded passively just by playing and doing hearts.
So if you don’t play all 5 maps evenly, and that can be due to a number of reasons, this is inevitably going to happen. Unless you deliberately ignore nodes but that doesn’t actually solve anything. The time spent from gathering, and ignoring gathering and “farming” unbound magic via events and collecting them in the sky is marginal at best. Not to mention you have a bit more control over gathering than events.

That really sucks. Maybe the recent updates have corrupted your files.
Try a repair: https://help.guildwars2.com/hc/en-us/articles/201863008-Repairing-the-Game-Client
Yea, those stairs are a lie and are in disrepair. You can go down, but not up. To do it, you’ll need to go around and use the updrafts. Failing that, try going back to spawn and try aiming from it from above.
Especially if you’re just playing GW2, you’re going to be immensely better off with a Pentium G4560 instead of an Athlon CPU.
That being said, you can muddle by in GW2 with incredibly low specs but you will see massive performance increases by not buying absolute bottom-of-the-barrel stuff. Even with It’s especially obnoxious when you’re always recommending this stuff in threads where the OP is looking to spend a much larger amount of money.
It doesn’t matter if a build has the absolute most frames per dollar if it isn’t close to the tier of PC/level of performance that someone wants. And the double whammy is when the recommendation isn’t even the best in the price range.
but I am not sure of the worth of 4K gaming in general – and clearly a bit pointless where GW2 is concerned
Every game out there will benefit from a higher resolution if you have the hardware to drive it. GW2 is no different, although there are (apparently) issues with UI scaling above 1440P
How could I be immensely better off with a G4560 when I don’t see a significant benefit with an i5 when actually playing GW2? Seriously I gave an honest opinion above, I switch between the two PCs every week there are minor differences of little worth – to me anyway.
The g4560 is less than $60 so just as cheap, and has a modern upgrade path.
Go to Teq (or a world boss of your choosing), HoT maps, and report your fps/resolution.
From experience, it is true that for regular play it’s not really that big of a difference, but weaker processors tend to suffer from worse lows.
And even excluding this, I am not really sure if it’s wise to build a PC around a single game. That’s why I recommend SSDs because the OS performs better, even if actual game performance does not increase. But you can’t really avoid using an OS so….
True, the problem is self-inflicted. I didn’t go in with “oh my god, I must max my luck out”. I forgot how much I have atm; probably 200.
However, it doesn’t change the fact that you effectively get penalized by getting unusable junk in your inventory once you max it out. That my friends, is not desirable as an endgame goal!
So, your idea of casual play is to go from 1 farm to another, to another, to another?
That’s not what casual players do.
OK, so let me give you yet another perspective.
A full cycle of login rewards takes 28 days to complete and gives, among other things, the following:
- 20 Mystic Coins (currently worth ~1g each)
- 35 Laurels, with an option for extra 20 from Chest of Loyalty. These can be converted to gold by purchasing bags of crafting materials at any laurel vendor, at roughly 1g per laurel final rate.
Doing just the dailies (2g per day) on top of that and ignoring any materials you gain in the process, you can make 20 + 55 + 2×28 = 131g per 28 days. So the game gives you 4.67g per day for basically doing nothing.
I think even the casual players do more than just dailies. No matter what you do, you get loot (which can be salvaged and sold), karma and liquid gold. It is perfectly possible to get 100g in less than 10 days with casual play. If you’re deliberately choosing not to, I fail to see any reason to complain. You’re complaining about your own choices. Only one person has the power to change these, you know…
This does nothing to dispute my point. Going from one farm, to another, to another, to another is anything but casual play.
Anyone that says that is casual is clearly out of touch with the average GW2 player.
As to your gold per day figure, JS made a post a while ago (I’m sure someone on here can find it, or has it bookmarked or something) that said the mean weekly income for GW2 players was something small, like 1-2 gold per week. So while yes, it is easy to get gold in GW2, that doesn’t mean that most players actually come by it quite so easily as you seem to think that they do.
Soooo, apparently doing that is too hardcore. Okay. But these players are also hardcore enough to craft, HoT stats no less, because level 47 pirates need viper gear to kill?
I’d argue that even exotics period would be a waste of gold. All they really need are ascended trinkets.
I don’t agree with either of you, mind you. That is, I don’t expect players to do dailies every day. I don’t think casual players make 100g a week. But then again, how new again are the daily income statistics? Since dailies have changed a bit in just over a year.
But hey, I’ve worked with people with a 25 gold budget before, so….
(edited by ArchonWing.9480)
I think exotic luck should be used in more recipes yes.
I think they may have underestimated the time it takes to get 300 luck. They could also try increasing the cap to 320 luck, but make it exponeitaly harder to reach each level. (So, say, it’d take as much to reach 0-300 as it does to reach 300 to 305).
And give an achievement for reaching 300 luck, in case of “ermagawd I maxed out my luck and you are invalidating my accomplishment” appears.
An average of 99 sounds high. Is that only the people who have used gw2efficiency? Which will be a population slanted more towards people that are highly active. I have been playing since HOT came out and my mastery rank is 67. The MPs gated me and I just did not see more than bragging rights and niche uses for most of the higher-level ones.
Yes, if they don’t sign up for it, there’s no way for us to know.
So in practice it is going to be lower, but this is also weighted by where you go. The latest living world zones or Dragon Stand are going to have people with higher levels simply because you need them just to get there.
And of course, one may also not see a need to max out masteries either. Given how LS is going, I would actually tell people to select a few choice Magumma masteries to exclude if one can’t rally enough points. Namely, the last 2 nuhoc, and maybe some exalted unless one wants the collections. I’d also cut Adrenal mushrooms, but those hold more priority over the rest.
