The reason I can't get into this game

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

To a degree I agree. In particular the starter zones have been dumbed down to degree and that makes it really boring.

However, there’s a reason why leveling zones are easy, and that’s because if it were too challenging, then it’d be too frustrating to new players who may have even have trouble learning to even move their character. Since this was my first MMO, I had trouble even using melee weapons to hit enemies at first.

So if it’s really not challenging, then it’s clear one has already outskilled the content, and they just need to move faster. The game gives free level up tomes for this very reason. And no, it’s not needed to go through every zone, unless you want map completion. That’s probably why it feels so slow.

To me that reminds me of the numerous suggestions to make low zones harder, when they have probably forgot what it really means to be a noob. I do agree that the game should do a better job of teaching people to use skills though.

Also go do jumping puzzles.

No expansion - disadvantage?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

ArchonWing.9480

Yes, the elite specializations are in practice stronger. There are also some stats that are not accessible.

That being said, the degree of disadvantage really depends on what you want to do. It’s significantly worse in any Player vs player content. There are also certain classes that will do better without the expansion as well depending on what you play. On the other hand, Open World is more or less the same.

Ah, you were most likely fighting a thief using
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Bountiful_Theft
and lots of evades.

Yeah, I have come across those too. Most frustrating fights I have ever been a part of. Nothing like seeing ‘EVADED’ over and over again while one guy manages to avoid attacks from myself and 3 or 4 other players…
(Tried that with my own Daredevil… I’d absolutely love to know how they manage that…)

Again, I’m not expecting to always win. Just tired of being a useless leach to my server every time I attempt to try WvW.

Oh. Combination of these:
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Staff_Master
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Signet_of_Agility
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Channeled_Vigor
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Unhindered_Combatant
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Hard_to_Catch
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Pain_Response

So you get pretty much passive defense against condis, cc, quite a few dodges, and really can’t be pinned down. Also you get a good amount of swiftness when you dodge, so very few people can even chase you at all. You can throw in some stealth for even more ways to get away.

You’re not going to do the best damage with it, but you will get good use out of vault for the most part. I usually just vault in and out of crowds mostly because I can.

Or some combination of that and Acro/SA/escapist’s absolution/HiS. You don’t need them all, of course.

Ah, you were most likely fighting a thief using
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Bountiful_Theft
and lots of evades.

Now, unfortunately due to the wacky design choices of the game, not every 1v1 is really within your control; your build may simply be hard countered and it is quite lame. It doesn’t mean you have to be a punching bag though.

As someone that often does go after random players, I know that when inexperienced players fight, they do one of two things: Either come straight at us with all their damage skills or blow all their defensive cooldowns in order to survive. Naturally neither is a good idea.

There’s generally two things to consider. If they attack you and your health drops fast, then they’re probably on the glassy end. In these cases all you should do is feign running away, (use endure if needed— that’s why people often take the trait defy pain for the passive proc of endure pain) immediately turn around and smack them in the face. But don’t use everything. If you note your autos already being able to pressure him, take note. Your average person looking for ganks never anticipates this because he assumes he will kill you once you retreat.

If your health isn’t dropping fast, then chances are they are going for attrition. If you try this same tactic against him, he will just evade backwards and slowly peck you to death. In this case, you just want to sustain against him. Aka, do not hit all the buttons and let your healing signet/adrenal health (you have those?) recover your health. The more time you buy the more time you have to repeat the process. In particular you should note if it is using a staff; as long as you dodge that thing where he pops into the air (vault) you should be doing okay.

Now, if you see condis on you, you will often need to use clears or resistance (berserker stance). In these cases, it is generally a waste of time trying to fight these, as they seem to always try to run away after landing some so you should really use a mobility skill (say greatsword) and get out.

None of this gurantees you will win any fight, but it’ll make people think twice upon bothering vs you.

And yes, you will generally have to opt for some defensive stats. Anti-condition duration food will also help.

There really is no recipe for instant success. (well, maybe tank/condi bers/druid/chrono/dd) comes close…

Well ,I agree that the motives and timing feel strange. It does seem they need do work harder at anticipating reactions. It actually is kinda funny.

For example, I think we really need to find out what consists “matchup discussion” since this seems to be the crux of the problem. And I am confused, honestly.

They do technically attempt to ‘define’ things in this: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/wuv/Reopen-and-Glicko-Adjustment-Requests-Updated

However, given your own issues with the usage of “matchup discussion,” ANET might want to clarify/redefine that phrase. It appears in their example under “Thread about Worlds.” They show one that demonstrates “matchup discussion” but then explains it’s the bad etiquette is what ANET is after. This probably lends to your confusion on where, and when mods do this. According to that link the “matchup discussion” gets lumped with bad etiquette.

It’s not my job to make up definitions for these conditions ANET perceives as unacceptable. Gaile can reopen an announcement, edit that link, or open up a discussion topic in regards defining “matchup discussion.” I think the link mostly covers things, but it feels like “matchup discussion” isn’t an ideal label.

Personally. I’d try to keep it to one sentence (which is really hard to do).

Matchup Infraction: any post, or topic that pertains to an individual, a group, a guild, or a server being referenced to or by an opposing individual, group, guild, or server.

Bad Etiquette Infraction: any post, or topic that insults an individual, a group, a guild, or a server.

You can see how this sounds legal, and stuff. Ideally you want plain, and understandable language for a few sentences.

P.S. Considering the limitations of Gaile’s OP, again, this reply is derailment.

Oh, I didn’t even realize that post even existed! Well, they could start be splitting those 2 posts.

The Norn home instance is awful!

Certain home instances have really, really awkward placement almost to the point where it almost defeats the purpose of acquiring these nodes. Most of the time I prefer the Asuran one, but apparently the Jade Shard one is way out there too.

A minor issue, but I’d just like to bring it up.

Ideas for 10th character slot?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: ArchonWing.9480

ArchonWing.9480

I just use it to open champ bags, keeping it at mid-level. I like getting all that mid-level mats. You do lose out on bloodstone dust but nothing visiting Bloodstone Fen can’t save. You also still get level 80 exotics.

Note that this can overlap with making a joke/cosplay character too, since they’re just going to stick to cities anyways.

If you’re really, really, bored and have lots of tomes/level scrolls, this can also double to occasionally grab an extra BL key (limited weekly). All you have to do is delete the character, start over again to get the Key, and them level them back up to 50’ish with tomes. Continue to open champ bags with that character until you get really bored, rinse and repeat as you wish.

I have a permanent bank express, so I screw around by using tomes so I can play the starting instance with a level 50 character. I think this is also possible if you have a golem banker.

I really don’t know if doing this is really worth it, but it does let me use Tomes of knowledge/level scrolls that would otherwise be useless.

Oh yea, I also recommend putting 15/18 slot bags on the character so you can have an easier time opening the champ bags.

Yes your bank does not get affected. Ascended gear is account bound and can be stored in the bank and used by your future characters.

You would lose your crafts though. You also lose any bag slots you bought. (You can keep the bags) if they’re in the bank.

Honestly, though, 1600 gems isn’t very hard to grind though. If you were able to farm ascended gear, I think it’d be more effective to just gather up gold and convert to gems.

I literally can’t think of any negatives either.

Please remember that the decision to create the stadium area has been one of the most successful implementation of virtually anything created in WvW. From this small expenditure of effort, you have created something that has spawned an entire subculture of WvW which has taken upon a new life. It’s also been a boon to other folk who may be complaining of potential conflicts that arise in the main maps.

You even took the time to help out GvGs by making sure the map didn’t have the effect of bloodlust. Fights here are valued over Guild Hall fights due to size and pve balance issues over there.

Finally, remember that this area was created to deal with a misunderstanding with GvG’ers and Anet. It’s a symbol of respect between the developers and its players.

Now, I think we’ve established that this little corner of WvW has provided so much from so little. When you add the few things of value learned from EOTM, aka the advantages of letting more people meet and fight, then it I can say in all sincerity that any time invested in improving this area will not be a waste. In fact, not taking advantage of it would be the real waste.

believe it or not but I think the anet bashing comes from a good place. I know plenty of people (myself included) that really want the game to succeed and get frustered when there aren’t any recent updates/unaddressed problems.

+1, your most critical customers may be your most loyal and invested. It’s important to remember that the end-user, especially those who are enthusiasts with respect to their total hours played, are a useful tool (if utilized) for determining how to shape the product into something better. Ultimately, as customers, our needs should be met when realistic and in the best interests of the game.

And there is strong reason to believe that WvWers are fairly low maintenance. We don’t constantky ask nonstop for endkess content and are not out with pitchforks when they arr late by 2 days. Heck,we have been plating the same content more or less for years. We won’t hound Anet because npcs are moved 5 pixels over because it messes with the 12th legendary.

Can we have something "Private Tag" ?

in WvW

Posted by: ArchonWing.9480

ArchonWing.9480

Like others have mentioned in this thread, we don’t think this would be a healthy feature for WvW. Many players will not participate in WvW if they don’t see a commander tag, and we try to avoid adding features that can be used to exclude players.

I think you don’t understand. In many match ups, especially recently with certain toxic servers from top tiers who like to tag watch, we started to run tagless. Talk about players not seeing a tag. Without an option that only lets the zerg see their squad’s tag more will, and are, running tagless. So ANeT not solving this issue will actually lead to players NOT seeing a tag. So your saying this is not healthy contradicts what is already happening.

But that issue would happen regardless. You still aren’t going to want to be visible either way. You already can be invisible either way.

So from Anet’s point of view, neither action is really going to get what they want, from you.

?
In STRM there are nights where we run tagless but there are fights I have to say tag up because it is impossible to follow my GL in the mess. We are not some hardcore elitist GvG guild. We just want to have opponents who feel they can come out and play because it’s 5-15 players instead of lol30+.

Well, I meant that if people are harassing you by watching your tag, then you are going to make your squad tagless regardless of this change gets made or not. And if this is STRM from HoD, then I know you folks are a decent bunch. I don’t actually object to people running tagless. We do it and use ctrl-T all the time.

To clarify, I don’t think you’re a bad person for not inviting people to your squad. I mean, I think using pugs as bait is a legitimate tactic. That probably makes me a lot worse than many around here. I just want to point out the tag was intended for visibility.

That being said, I think the targeting system in general needs to be improved. What could happen is a leaderless squad should not drop lieutenants, so you could at least have a marker. But you know, then the reasoning becomes fundamentally different. It becomes more about improving the game because the targeting UI is bad, and not about who wants what. I mean, tag or not, you might point out the sheer annoyance of a member that isn’t the commander want to point something out to the whole squad. (obviously anyone that abuses it just gets kicked). And what if the commander disconnects?

I think it’s much easier for the devs to take “Your UI is flawed” as opposed to “omfg Anet doesn’t care about XXYYZZ”

They should also fix things like drawing on maps. But that rant is for another day.

And personally, and you can simply ignore me on this, is that I think being paranoid to spies is ultimately not going to be healthy unless you intend to lock up your comms and screen every member. From experience, this has generally been more effort than it is worth. And yes, I know it’s terrible to have someone from another server even wearing the same guild tag and not trying to hide their spying. Ah, have a 1060 too, and handles things easy. (though my resolution is a bit low 1680 × 1050). Have similar settings on an i5-6500 (similar league to ryzen 5, maybe worse) and using supersampling. 60 fps is generally the norm.

Probably not worth it to get a 83xx for this game at this point. Though I guess having to get Windows 10, a new motherboard, and new ram can be kind of a pain.

But keep an eye on it; it seems like AMD is working hard at optimizing the performance too. I really hope someone will record some more realistic gameplay with it while we wait. I just think it’s cool that we can get almost an i7 for a cheaper price. (no it doesn’t help in Gw2, but I imagine you’ll want to play other games.) You’re speaking on interfering with 60-120? Okay, well take 2 “invisible” tags with their 25 while everyone is wondering why the map is queued but there is no one doing anything. Sounds like teamwork!

Well no1 is laughing, but you sure take everything personally don’t you buddy? But sure lets talk about 2 invisible tags again, cause guess what that’s 40 people working together, with 20 random pugs doing their own thing or following those invisible tag groups since bodies are not invisible, nor orange swords. And if you still don’t like it thats too bad cause its at the very least 20 working together another 20 working together, and then the 20 randoms that do their own thing with or without a map tag anyway lol.

That was just an analogy to roamers, but simply with the numbers multiplied up. You claim that they’re being selfish in that sense, but I am showing the same thing can be done with guild groups. Not sure how provocative that is.

As much as you’d like to drive this more off topic by spewing how much I apparently hate everyone because your own opinion is the be-all-end all so much that you rapid reply quotes – I’m going to go have a pizza now, and continue to tag how I please as I have since launch. Cheers kiddo

Sounds a lot like projection. Beyond the roaming comment, how is anything remotely personal?

I think the issue here is that many people think that the squad is effectively a large party for you to use, but that’s not the whole story. It’s part of having a tag, which is a map-wide tool of organizing things. Making it invisible to the whole map defeats the purpose. The squad features are an incentive to tag.

Well GG you missed the entire point. But let me spell it out for you – we as a community do not know what we want. Anet in terms of WvW does not know what they want/need. Thereby, again “muddying” the waters of what could be, should be, what we want, and is.

There is no muddying the waters. The red post clearly implied the the tag was to include participation. Whether or not you disagree with it or not is your own issue, as well as if you use it or not to serve your own purposes. You just can’t expect them to give you QoL on something they won’t support.

And as for roamers basically everyone has roamed at some point. But unfortunately in terms of point value; no they generate far less both in PPT and Kills at prime hours. They also do not often contribute much to the server which was why I listed them. This is “generalized”, some of course do and they know if they do – those that can solo and duo towers while killing, those that actually flip camps. But those few that stand alongside Stonemist during prime hours saying just that as stated above- no they can go to Obsidian Sanctum.

So, you’re selectively excluding all the good things they do, in lieu of those few random duelers outside SM? What evidence do you have that those are even the majority?

And what about those roamers that lure away part of a zerg, kill people running back to the tag, and might even report what happened, or indirectly when some kitten guild gets kittened that their slowpokes get picked off in the back and decides to make oranges on them?

Because like you said, no1’s play should be valued over anothers, and guess what – that interferes with like 60-120+ people when it would not in OS. But again the point of listing them for your rightous self, was to point out that theyre often the ones value’ing the good of a few over the many.

Oh, few over the many huh? Playing this game?

Those scouts you laugh at for siege sitting. Well, they’re the ones that that report enemy movements so you can actually find fights in the first place.

You’re speaking on interfering with 60-120? Okay, well take 2 “invisible” tags with their 25 while everyone is wondering why the map is queued but there is no one doing anything. Sounds like teamwork! Now, you have a right to do this, but you can’t say this is selfless behavior.

I’m sorry, I’ve heard these lines too much from guilds that think they own the map and they tell everyone else to get off because they need to get their entire guild onto the map. Probably because they got wiped with even numbers or something.

Now imagine all your guilds leaving and guess what you’re left with; a linked server that won’t do anything unless until either a very dedicated Pug-Tag shows up (Few and far between) or a guild transfers to them.

Been there, done that. Funny how the “hearts of the server” move so much.

It wouldn’t be better, but the extra cores/threads of the Ryzen 7 do not help in Gw2 as Gw2 really only uses 3 cores with a heavy emphasis on faster cores. Basically, you could save $100 and Gw2 wouldn’t be all that different.

But this stuff is quite new, so it’d be a good idea to wait and see how this all turns out.

You should be fine with medium character limits. Mostly everything else can be turned up to high, depending on your graphics card. (doesn’t require a strong one)

I mean the fps will still drop, but it should be playable and look good. But for reference, what is your fps in big world events, and what settings/resolution? And what do you get when you’re in a city like Lion’s Arch. I believe you definitely will be able to tell the difference.

BTW, as a warning, do you have Windows 10? Because Microsoft has blocked Ryzen (and also Kaby Lake) from receiving updates on Windows 7/8.

You don’t have to complete the story. You have to do the story. I never implied the former, I thought.

I also think that the motivation for doing the story and zone are rather unrelated things. I did the story, because it was actually pretty good. But my first priority was playing in the zones. Anyhow, my standard was based off previous ones set by Anet in season 2 which I found acceptable. That changed, and I am questioning it.

In other good news, it turns out apparently at least one friend has been logging on sporadically enough to unlock the needed chapters.

Can we have something "Private Tag" ?

in WvW

Posted by: ArchonWing.9480

ArchonWing.9480

I think the issue here is that many people think that the squad is effectively a large party for you to use, but that’s not the whole story. It’s part of having a tag, which is a map-wide tool of organizing things. Making it invisible to the whole map defeats the purpose. The squad features are an incentive to tag.

What I am seeing here is pretty much a desire to have the cake and eat it too.

Anet has never supported actual Guild play in WvW, and they’re not likely ever going to. They will continue to appease the few outspoken “pugs” that come into the forums with bright ideas about what WvW should be for the non-guild player (All those not running in an organised group of like 10+). # _I want to Roam leave me alone and dont come near me tags/zergs, I want better rewards, and I want gimmicky tactics so I can solo defend an entire objective from anything other than 30 people.

And what, makes your preferences actually more important then theirs? There are way more pugs than anything else? Of course Anet’s going to appeal to them

As for defending a structure against 30 people, all I can say it’s not really a matter of gimmicky tactics but 30 players seemingly not having a single brain between all of them. I mean, you are, as a skilled group, hitting a keep or fortified tower to induce the enemy groups to come out and fight you, not overrunning that poor dude and getting a champ bag, are you?

It’s also pretty hilarious that you somehow included roamers in the mix, that they want to be left alone and tags shouldn’t interfere with their fights, when you have guild groups trying to impose the exact same thing on people. It’s pretty obvious that in writing that, you have absolutely no respect for anyone else’s gameplay style, so why should anyone respect yours?

Glass houses much?

You’re right, they haven’t, since it’s not all about organized guilds. But of course, they’re the ones that get access to all those activators and banners though…

“In fact there was the one time a dev actually discredited GvGs. Some old players may still remember it”

I do. I’m on the server of which it happened This was because Anet was at that time even more disconnected from the WvW community than they were and a developer legitimately thought that there was exploiting going on. The developer was clearly wrong, oblivious, and handled it badly, but it’s not like the swearing and lack of explaining from the other side was helpful. And in response, the OS stadium was created so people could GvG. Of course, only the bad parts get remembered as part as historical revisionism, but hey, what’s convenient.

I actually met the “Violating Game Mode” person later on when I was new. He showed me how to evade the zerg, so that dev wasn’t really a particularly bad person. Just misguided.

Why is it that WvW is the only game mode that doesn’t allow the separation of the skilled from the unskilled?

sPvP has tournaments. PvE has raids and fractals.

World vs World

The actual entities are servers, not players or groups. Now, in theory it does seperate “unskilled” worlds from others, but of course in practice that’s obviously false due to the numerous other problems with the game mode.

Besides, even if they did, I think a lot of people around these parts are going to end up crying.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunning%E2%80%93Kruger_effect

And to further push this point, you already can. You can close your squad so that only you and your guild maters get fully optimized builds and thus have more sustain. The pugs will die and you can feel good about yourself as you regroup and have your actual fight.

The game allows you to exclude people already. And with an untagged squad all you are missing are broadcasts (you should be in comms anyways), squad markers and tags. Now, I’m incredibly skeptical that the self-proclaimed crème de la crème of this game mode suffers a performance hit to the degree where they can’t just wipe your average enemy blob without squad markers and a dorito. That would just make them as bad as the pugs they’re trying to get away from.

Come on, this game isn’t that hard.

Nothing you buy is going to have good fps with character model limits up in world events. This game was built on old technology that can’t utilize the most out of new hardware.

However, any modern processor is going to be a major improvement over your current processor, especially in Gw2. If you don’t want intel for some reason, have you looked at the 1500/1600?

I meant the story being required to enter the zone,

1,000 unbound magic per teleport scroll, literally 2/3 of a Winterberry Farm which takes 10 minutes total.

I did mention that futher up though. No reason to waste teleport to a friend, though those work too.

Well, I have a number of friends that have gone inactive due to lack of content so I was figyring s3 would give us something to do. And one doesn’t have Hot yet. I do nit know if it is good timing to tell them to buy hot if another expansion looms around the corner. And then all this spending.

The old dilema of “is it worth to spend 25 dollars on a product you might be spending 1, 5, 100 or more hours on”. Always amazes me how such people manage to do anything else like watch a movie or go for a date.

To repeat what people love to say in this case:
The true cost for any MMO comes from the time you spend on/in it. Those 25 bucks are like not even a drop in the bucket.

Red herring. Cost is subjective and it’s not about the absolute costs, especially when ones are added to the game. So if they’re putting down $50 for HoT, they’d have to put down 50% more for other things. You might think it’s worth half an expansion. Some may not.

It’s very nice and all that you are willing to spend money on the game. But to people on the fence, it’s not a clear cut question.

I mean, some games these days, including this one can be free. But that doesn’t mean you should play them just because they have an infinite cost:time ratio, should you?

See, this argument gets tossed around too much, but the problem is that it is way too broad and can be used to justify anything. It also focuses too much on people’s personal spending habits, which more or less is a pointless discussion when it comes to games.

Now, I guess the gold I guess isn’t too bad. But given recent discussion, I am not sure about others. But the actual story has also been an issue but fortunately teleport to fruend is a thing for those that unlocked it.

Story is subjective. You like it or not (or gravitate towards one of those sides). An actual legitimate complaint. Me personally, I loved LW3 so far.

I meant the story being required to enter the zone,

Again, you don’t need 131 for the base materies (only 112). Once you start going for the raid mastery, you unlock a ton more from raids. Same for Ancient Magics which come with way more mastery points from Living World 3 than required to unlock the track.

If they add more masteries, they will add more mastery points. That’s how they handled the last 5 situations where this happened (raids, each living story part). Not sure why they would change going about this now, so moot point.\

Which is why I specified, specifically, points not locked behind the raids and LS. We’re talking about getting spirit shards and that isn’t possible unless everything is maxed.

And yes I am aware that they would add more point. Point is I would have to go acquire more points when this happens I don’t have to at this moment to gain back an ability I already have now. This is compounded if I were to say, miss, the next chapter.

So this isn’t a moot point.

I think it’s because they treat social interaction like ascended gear. It’s nice to have, but it’s not required in most cases, and it can be quite the pain to deal with at times. Whereas more extroverted people consider it more mandatory and kick people from dungeons.

So, basically every player that buys the game after this is going to have pay a thousand gems just to have access to the maps and be cut off from a dozen mastery points. And unlike in Central Tyria, these masteries do significantly affect gameplay.

And I won’t have to excuse to say “Well, it’s just the story! Just watch it on Youtube, and the rewards aren’t that great anyways”.

And this is going to keep increasing…..

So pray tell, do people that don’t unlock the story have access to the “Ancient Magics” masteries? Because if they can’t fill those out, and it is quite hard to do so using only HoT map masteries, then they’d be stuck with useless XP.

This isn’t a new game. I don’t think finding more ways of separating the population is going to help things, considering it’s already separated by expansion.

As far as we know, the Ancient Magics mastery line will only impact LS3 maps. That mastery line unlocks upon entering any LS3 map. That said, only the first one is really required.

There are also enough mastery points in the game where they do not need to have every LS3 map unlocked to max out their masteries.

I think that’s cutting it a bit close though.

It takes 132 points to max out all the masteries, and I think… /stares 132 mastery points that aren’t locked behind raids or the LS.

Though I guess most of them aren’t really needed.

Roughly that many without the LS or raids. The wiki is still off the last I checked since it’s missing the one from Mayatl and one other (I think was from the HoT story). Assuming someone unlocks an episode to unlock the mastery line, they’ll obtain all of those masteries.

Episode 3 is the worst one to go with and people have claimed that they were able to enter the zone without the episode unlocked. I haven’t personally verified that claim though and chances are it could have gotten patched under one of their “Fixed a server crash” patches.

Ah, well, I do see that point. Personally, I was hitting it very close on the masteries. I only have 4 extra points even after doing most of the masteries in LS and have 2 from raids. All the “easy” or even “not so easy” ones I’ve already exhausted and if I had missed one chapter, I’d be in pretty bad shape. Well, if I actually needed spirit shards.

But beyond that it’s a bit hard to tell my friends that there’s a new LS story coming out and they say they’ll be back in a few weeks only to be stifled by a paywall. And then any other friends that were checking out the game as F2P. Now, perhaps it’s the people I associate with, but nobody’s ever complained to me that “they couldn’t do the story! OMG!” beyond any possible rewards but it’s obvious they were caring more about the rewards. So I thought having to pay for the story (as in LS2 was a fair deal). On a broader scale, people not playing the story only impacts the single player part, but shutting down the multiplayer part indirectly affects me, since I’m someone that would rather see more crowded maps than empty ones.

And I also think the availability of full HoT stats trinket was a great thing to have, due to not having to do raids for them, but if new players have to pay a gem fee, that it kind of sours the whole thing as a viable option. Then again, I guess if they gave new ways to get those, then the issue would be greatly dampened for me.

It’d be nice if Expansion 2 had a version that say, had a slightly more expensive version that included the LS3, but alas.

Yeah, it does warrant bringing it up in the QoL section instead of under some whiny-ranty anti-content topic title. :P
But I’ve got no dog in that race, so I figure someone else will.

Sure, it’s a matter of reward track design as opposed to something bad about SAB. I guess it hurts more because the track will disappear soon.

But yea, the problem’s annoyed me enough to get me a gift of battle or two I didn’t want. Should be able to sell those things.

And I would buy them off of you, eagerly, at 50g each. It’s still incredibly irritating that we can’t use badges anymore, nor the newer shards for it.

Any non-crafting ways to obtain exo sets?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: ArchonWing.9480

ArchonWing.9480

Not too big of a fan of karma armor anymore. It takes time to gather up that much karma (200,000+ for a full set), and those armors can’t be salvaged meaning any runes are lost and don’t have the HoT stats OP desires They’d be good as a stopgap, but it seems to be more effective to do some dailies and just buy the named exotics: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Named_armor

I guess it’s not too black and white though. If one is in greens looking to get a exotic geared character that can farm stuff, then it’s not too bad of an idea since farming Orr to get setup coincides with temple armor. But given that OP is trying to gear multiple characters, I think they may be past this stage. Could be wrong, of course.

Oh yea, if VB looks empty, you can always use “looking for group” https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Looking_For_Group

I’m going to go way off topic, and suggest you head to the Living Story season 3 maps if you have them. You can buy ascended trinkets with any stat you want which will be a much bigger punch than getting exotic armor plus unlike exotic armor, these will be endgame trinkets. The only problem is that you can’t equip two trinkets with the same name, so you may have to switch maps to get 2 rings or 2 earrings. Bitterfrost Frontier and Bloodstone Fen tend to be my choices as the maps due to convenience and ease of soloing. I would recommend a character or build with a speed boost, and some other way of evading fights (stealth, leaps, etc)

Also remember Ascended gear is account bound, meaning it can be moved between characters. Though you’ll probably want more than 1 set eventually as it can get annoying.

The jeweler costs Unbound Magic and whatever the local map material is. Unbound magic is gathered by just getting events and doing map related things, while the map material is gathered.

It’s very easy to do, just a bit time consuming. I think that would be a more effective use of time though as all you have to do is play the maps and not have to bother with crafting or figuring out what materials you want.

In the meantime, you may want to do a bit of the HoT story to get the viper’s weapon box as well as try working on crafting viper weapons, which are also a more important component as well.

If I were you, I would cheap out on the armor (rampager’s exotic for a few gold) and instead focus your resources on ascended weapons, consumables, and good runes. You will save gold in the long run and may actually be able to skip straight to ascended armor. You can chalk it up to the incredibly questionable implementation of HoT stats which really didn’t seem to take in account the existence of their exotic counterparts.
