Well look at the bright side, at least you didnt get an AX760i and promptly ignored all the features it brought because the kittening fans of the H80i was grindy banshees that had to be replaced by Noctuas as soon as they could be thrown out the window, thus not working properly with Corsair Link.

Oh, so basically it turned into a regular PSU as a result. That’s definitely not one of the things that can be forseen easily.
Well, I didn’t list my biggest fail though! Buying a 1 tb hard drive (was huge at the time) but the salesguy said it’d be fast enough (5400 RPM). I hate him forever. :p
Oh yea, that CX lasted 4 years before it popped. It’s okay, nothing of value was lost.

Here’s a video on a friend’s budget build for a relative. (Obviously not intended for gaming). It uses an I3 and an old hd 7850 that was lying around. That card is about as good as a rx 460 I believe: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dEKkzPqI608
Well used cards is a whole different ballpark of course. There is a ton of choices. I ran GW2 on a GTX670 fine, you could probably find that dirt cheap used today. But good luck finding the old cards in normal stores. The only HD7850 I could find was not in stock and twice the price of the RX460, lol.
Oh. The 7850 was literally lying around, It was part of the friend’s main rig until they replaced it with a rx 470. Had that not happened, I’d be recording that with an iGPU and that wouldn’t be as good. :p
Definitely wouldn’t buy that card now. I used it as an example here because it’s about as good as the 1050/rx 460 that we’re talking about, so OP will definitely see better performance.
And yea, it’s really annoying how cards seem to stay just as expensive. I remember getting rekt long ago because of that, because I thought buying a card for $70 was a good idea… and then it was already like 2 years old. And then I also got a CX 600 because lol 600w. :S

I guess it really depends on what PSU OP currently has. If it’s a prebuilt comp’s PSU, I wouldn’t trust it with any new hardware. Though fortunately the budget cards recommended here don’t eat power much.
It’s definitely more about an issue with quality than quantity— a good brand helps and you shouldn’t buy a no-name 700w just because it seems powerful. Seems like EVGA would be a good idea. It’s only a few more dollars difference from 450w to 500w though, not really anything that matters though here.

About $50-70 and the trouble of reinstalling Windows. Not insignificant but worth it.

Would a RAM upgrade fit in your budget? 4GB seems rather low for systems nowadays.
Others will chime in on graphics I’m sure, but the question gets asked often so if you simply scroll down you’ll find recent posts on it.
Being in Arizona, I’m not sure how much your budget translates into US dollars.
Winner!
I think if you’re on a budget, upgrading to 8gb of RAM is going to provide the biggest boost in things, including outside of Gw2, especially if you have anything open. Even with Gw2+Chrome and a few tabs open, I reach 6 gb of usage on Windows 10.
if you have a desktop i would suggest either Nvidia Geforce GT 730 or Same but low profile for compact computers each will run you about 60-70£. i have a GT 640 and i run everything on high except reflections(off), character model limit(low), and character model quality(medium), i play with my framerate capped at 30 and v-sync off, rarely does it go lower
The GT 730 is a terrible card— it struggles to beat newer integrated CPUs and gets thrashed by cards $30 more expensive than it.
Check these out:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sph6cjJeRdI
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xp6ltBCMDCE (gt 730 which is worse than the card in the first video!)
If you’re going to recommend a cheapo card, then at least recommend something like the r7 250. Cheaper and better:

(Claims to only be temporarily unavailable)

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814129283&cm_re=r7_250-_-14-129-283-_-Product
Still wouldn’t recommend it unless someone was broke and in the US, but it’ll still pull some weight.
Anyhow to OP, as stated above a RX 460 or GTX 1050 will be a good purchase. In the US, there’s really no point in getting a 1050ti since the 470 is so cheap here (Also, a great choice.) Though it seems different in Europe.

Yea, RAM is generally pretty the most outspoken part when it comes to things not working. If the ram sticks won’t play together, the computer’s not going to even power on at all. Or you’ll see random crashes. It’s not going to be as subtle as load times.
I would definitely try clientport:80 as 1k+ ping times were reported, and if that’s a regular occurrence, then that could be a problem.
Mechanical hard drives are also somewhat prone to failure though I guess better these days. SSDs aren’t too expensive though. That should be at the end of the list.
Anyhow, I think OP, you really need to separate yourself from the problem. Having an issue with your computer or connection doesn’t make you any less of a person. This is no diffrent from telling people your plans might be cancelled because you have some kind of potential emergency elsewhere.

Why would anybody in this day and age, who wasn’t in college or a hipster, ever buy a laptop?
Please buy a Mac so you can be like riding a bicycle with square tires. Yes you are different but you aren’t going anywhere.
Space issues, not spending time at home, or the type to travel a lot. They may not be much of a gamer, and just happen to play Gw2. In those cases performance is secondary. Granted, as I’ve mentioned, that’s also why I’m not a fan of gaming laptops as their increased weight and need for power really hampers the mobility part. Though given people’s tendencies for phones to run out of power, it’s common practice for places to offer an outlet.
I recall reading a thread of which someone had to spend a lot of time taking care of their parents at their house for extended period of time. I guess they could just stick a desktop there, but a laptop has uses. That’s not comparable to say… buying a Mac for gaming.
Obviously a desktop is optimal for gaming and like I said above, much more cost effective as even a budget PC will run Gw2 decently.

This game doesen’t utilize 8 cores efficiently. You wan’t alot of GHz for this game, so 7700k will be a better choice for gaming overall.
Yes and no.
The game doesn’t take advantage of that many cores well, yes. In fact, an I3 can take this game on pretty well because of this. But do note that also applies to the i7 since its main thing over i5s is hyperthreading (simulate 8 cores)…. which as you’d guess isn’t used either in this game. That’s why most folks recommend I5s for gaming and especially this one. Yea, the i7s are clocked higher and you will squeeze more performance out, but the cost difference is big.
That doesn’t mean that Ryzen is going to suck at Gw2. Sure, 5 of its 8 cores aren’t utilized, but neither will the I7s. We’re not talking about the FX single threaded turtles anymore. At the end of the day the I7 does win but Ryzen does have some things to consider, such as streaming and it’s a little cheaper. Plus it comes with a cooler!
It’s a bit weird since I don’t think anyone’s necessarily wrong. Fact is, Gw2 doesn’t require the best stuff to run if one is willing to turn down a few settings that will perform badly regardless. But I have a higher tolerance for fps drops than many. I’m fine with my locked i5 which drops to 30’ish fps at worst. (in WvW)
But the best thing from this thread so far is that Neven’s been running the game off the iGPU, which I think is pretty clear evidence that one doesn’t really need a fancy graphics card for this game, which is why I wanted to drive the OP off trying to get a 1060 on a laptop.
In any case, I’d definitely like to see benchmark using more standard settings.
EDIT: I wonder if I’ll get negative fps with max settings @ a world boss.

Having 8 cores doesn’t make it terrible lol.
And that video is full settings in world boss events that destroy performance on any comp. If yours can get 60 fps I want to see a video. If they reduced character model limit to medium or low it would be a lot better.
Having 20+ fps in worse case scenarios isn’t terribke by any means.

Ryzen doesn’t cost that much less though. The 1700 costs 329 while the 7700k is 349. Now against the broadwell-e chips which it was meant to take on, then it is sick good and great for streamers and content creation while still being good at games.
Now the ryzen 5 chips could be intresting.

It really depends on what your intent is. If your intent is say, CC/healing support that’s perfectly doable. For a more selfish approach, you can easily troll people and pull off randoms, or just be annoying. If you combine that with mobility, it can be good too.
What you don’t want is to put on nomads because you’re afraid of dying. Because all that will happen is smart players just ignore you and kill everyone (and eventually you) You don’t want to be that sort of deadweight, though that’s more of an issue at smaller scales.

It would be nice, but then we’d get a flood of people demanding refunds for their redundant tools.
I can’t say it’s an easy decision for Anet.
for there you have been and there you will long to return.
The fundamental problem with just making bags bigger is that eventually people are going to fill them up too, and demand even bigger bags. And it all comes down to inventory management.
There are people going back and forth in this thread about what is and isn’t essential, but I can guarantee that even if we had 40 slot bags, there would be a similar argument after people got used to being able to carry twice as much kitten in their bags. Then even more items would be considered “essential” to always carry around. Its all a matter of convenience.
Yes, there are a lot of things Anet could do to help (all currencies in the wallet, all crafting mats in mat storage, tonic/toy wardrobe etc….), but making bag sizes bigger won’t fix the inventory management problem.
Of course, someone will complain no matter what, but I don’t think those people should be considered in any legitimate discussion. There are people that will be able to intelligently make use of whatever new space they have.
I mean what’s there to really lose? Let’s say instead, they pick the better alternative of making us able to have 10 bags (so 200 max). They might make more gem sales, and some people might be made happier. The people that can’t manage their inventory will remain unhappy, but that’s nothing lost since they’d be unhappy anyways. Who would it really kitten off? People that are really proud of inventory management? There might be technical issues with the matter, but that is something that only Anet can decide.
I do think people shouldn’t be phrasing things as “need”, since reality dictates you don’t really need much in a video game, but wants can and will drive things.
Then how come 160 slots isn’t enough space for them to “intelligently make use of the space they have”? Why would more bag space help them if it all comes down to just intelligently using the space you are given? It wouldn’t. It would just delay the problem.
Inventory management is the problem here, and the game doesn’t make it easy that’s for sure. There are a lot of things Anet should be doing to make it easier, but in the end making bags bigger, or offering more bags, won’t solve the actual problem. All it will do is hide it from people for a bit longer.
Maybe there’s more things that need to be stored now then there was 5 years ago, while character storage has mostly stayed the same? I only need to say one thing: Zone-specific Keys.
It certainly does matter. I disagree with the whole “delay the inevitable” logic because while it is true, I think it ignores the degree of the problem. It’s because it can deter/delay lesser issues. It’s not meant to prevent them. It’s like locking the door to your property. Sure, determined people could break in anyways, but that doesn’t make it useless.
I posted my inventory, because it was to show my typical watermark for inventory management. And it was also to show I generally have enough space to handle things but I understand that it’s easy to fill it up with “stuff”. I also understand it does very little to tell people to manage their inventory without giving an example.
It was at 52/160, which means I have 108 more slots to put crap in.
If I had 180 slots, I would have 128, slots which is more than 20% more spaces to put crap in. That can matter.
Now consider someone that has 100 slots taken up already. That person probably has some issues in this area. They have 60 slots free. With 20 more slots, their free space goes up by 33%. With 40 more slots, it goes up to 66%.
Obviously if someone just use it an an excuse to pile in more crap, then it won’t help. But we can’t assume everyone is like this, and thus examples like these are irrelevant because nothing helps. What about people that will continue to play as they do? The problem with your reasoning is that you seem to be assuming that changing things only helps the former.
for there you have been and there you will long to return.

You honestly should give them a warning.
Back on my old computer, I would sometimes have long loading times, so I would indeed pass that warning every time. Most people that aren’t complete kittens will realize the obvious and overall I have never seen anyone kicked for taking too long to load. And if I ever came across that person, it’s probably a good thing because I wouldn’t want to spend my time with people like that.
Also, I’m not really sure if we can pin the blame on the game. It may just be your computer, since personally I’ve never seen long loading times outside of internet problems and a very specific WvW bug after I got a new computer.
for there you have been and there you will long to return.
I only agree with no.1 because that curtails potential abuse. I also believe in curbing factors that may lead people to believe that they’re giving negative contribution (and thus not play at all) which is why I thought “No PPK for outnumbered” to be a decent idea.
I don’t agree with no.2, because I don’t think that would discourage people from spawn camping. Essentially, people do it because they can. It’s like ganking random people— it really doesn’t matter if they drop a bag or not. The point of spawn camping is to be an kitten, and maybe demoralize the other team from coming out. Farming bags is just a side effect. If people want to go for a bag farm, then they should pull back a bit in order to trick their victims into thinking they have a chance and thus make more attempts. This is why people gamble money even on games of dubious chances rather than risk their money on say, a game with a expert chess player.
3 I think is silly and nothing more than a placebo. KDR isn’t part of the game and shouldn’t be; it’s a statistic derived from gameplay. How many people actually go check their KDR for reasons either than ego? How many people play just to keep their KDR high? “Omg run u scrublord, you’re going to mess up our KDR” (Don’t answer that) And if people are getting slaughtered, it’s readily apparent.
This is the equivalent of setting your weight scales to be lighter for guests.

We each make individual choices about what we consider essential, useful, or unnecessary. It hardly matters if any of us agree with ArchonWing’s choices, as long as ArchonWing agrees with them.
The question is whether the game needs to support people carrying everything with them or not. Clearly, ANet’s answer is “no” — the game expects us to make choices about skills & traits; this is hardly different.
The follow-up is therefore: how many items should we be able to carry with us? Currently, that limit is 177 = 8 bags of 20 slots + 17 shared inventory slots.
Surely, that’s enough for anyone who doesn’t regularly swap entire sets of armor via their bank.
So we can restate the issue as: should the game make it easy to swap entire sets of armor without the inconvenience of visiting the bank?
Again, I’ll be first in line to purchase more slots; I can always use more space. However, I think the game already has one of the most generous limits, especially considering how convenient it is to get to a bank, merchant and especially since we have salvage-all and deposit-all.
I think nearly everyone who thinks they need more slots would actually be better served by spending a little time learning faster/easier/more-efficient inventory management. Like any other skill, some people pick it up easily and some people need some training.
Well, the way I see it, the game has changed over time, and I don’t think it’s unreasonable to think certain things don’t have to be sacred. I mean, look at bank tabs for example, which have been growing over time. I think they’ve seen a need for people to carry more crap even though I really feel that there’s no real need to store 14 tabs worth of crap unless you’re really into speculating stuff. And even that is dubious in many cases." So I have 10000 mithril that tripled in price! That’s…. 100 more gold. Yea…"
No doubt people would be better off simply learning to play the game, and it’s something I actively encourage instead of , heh, complaining but I do see where people are coming from. Shared Inventory Slots are very expensive, and bag slots being bound to a single character also make it quite the expensive proposition.
And convenience for the sake of a want, not a need, has long been a thing in the gem store. I bought the node pack as it was on sale lately and also got the winterberry bush, so I can easily do the gatherer daily from town. Do I really need that to do a gatherer daily? No, I wouldn’t even recommend doing such a thing to anyone. But it’s just nice to have.
So I think it’s just better to talk in terms of QoL rather than in-game efficiency since while these complaints definitely overlap with these things, there are also situations which it really doesn’t as Tom.6478 has brought up.

Regardless of system, you should expect FPS drops in large crowds which is why one should turn down character model quantity even on good computers Your first computer should handle things easily and should keep 60 fps at medium or high settings outside of big events.
Increasing Ram won’t help issues. Performance in Gw2 pretty much comes down to CPU power.
Not sure about the 2nd one, as it being a mobile dual core (kinda rough as Gw2 is tough on the CPU) and integrated graphics. I’d imagine it struggling in heavy content but should be playable on low-medium settings in general.

- some of the buff food (get either some best buff or second best. more than sufficient. don’t hoard food buffs you will never use)
Actually I do use all of them. It’s not needed to use the most expensive food all the time. Sometimes, low tier food helps
That’s convenience. You are essentially deciding to save a couple of silver by taking so much buff food with you. Essentially you value those couple of silver more than your bag space. Doesn’t change that so much food is not needed.
Well, actually some of the foods are worth more than a few silver. Yea, I gather that food itself is optional, and I don’t need to do it. But there’s a certain reasoning to it, and I’m not filling my inventory just because I am super paranoid in the once in a blue moon chance I might need something. I find the life steal ice cream extraordinary helpful in cases across PvE/WvW where I would have died normally or just kill something faster.
But beyond that, there’s some food that’s just better in different situations. For example anti-condi food is good in zergs in WvW, but it’s not really good anywhere else.
Yes it’s soulbound and can easily be destroyed. The merchant in LA will happily restore it for you should you ever decide to need one again.
That’s actually nice to know.
- all the wvw siege (unless you are actually commanding, in which case: yes you do need those) in general commanders don’t like random wvw siege being droped
And if I’m not in a zerg?
Then keep the rams and maybe the arrow carts. How many small scale non-commander siege do you usually put up? But sure, keep it then, that Permanent Portable Provisioneer is just for show after all right?
I put up enough, since I can solo towers, but company is always better. The Provisioner is great— this is why I don’t carry siege I don’t use much such as trebs. However, with more common siege, not only is it more convenient to have it there but having to fiddle with my inventory for a few seconds can and will get me killed.
-black lion salvage kit. the amount of things you would salvage with this make it more than acceptable to have it in your bank. Then again you are missing a mystic one so 1for1 I guess
I have a silver fed kit already.
Even more of a reason to leave the BLSK at home.[/quote]
They don’t do the same thing though. The BLSK is to remove exotic sigils. Granted that’s kind of a dying art these days due to the devaluing of sigils.
- more useless boosters, food buffs, baloons, etc.
Celebratory boosters are useless?
Sure they are. They stack in duration up to multiple days so if you want to have the buff up you can use them every couple of hours.
I don’t have that many, I think.
Again, I could care less of how people manage or play the game their way. Whenever I read people complaining about not having enough space with potentially 160 inventory slots (excluding shared inventory) I know exactly what 80% of that used inventory space will be full of:
- oh I might need this later, better take it along all the time
or
- oh I absolutely NEED this item
Fair enough, though I find in most those cases, people are simply thoughtlessly putting things in without really an idea of this inevitable situation to begin with. It’s more like they get something and don’t know what to do with it.
In my case, I think I could do without many of these things. But I don’t think it’d be as good.
Here is some advice a friend once told me: if something in my clothes closet is not getting used at least 1nce within 2 years, I remove it.
The same reasoning can be applied here too.
That’s actually really good advice.

(edited by ArchonWing.9480)
Bags fill up really fast in most big meta events. Box spam in WvW isn’t partciularly entertaining either, plus we also have the disadvantage of needing siege blueprints. PvE’rs also have to content with the plethora of keys that they can’t just stow away plus jade shards and berries and stuff.
Plus bag slots are some of the most expensive upgrades around! No matter how good you are with inventory management, you still have to deal with minor sigils and spikes and whatnot.
This is what my inventory looks like with the junk cleared out, so OP is right I think about using 1/4. This is about optimal for what I do as well. I could probably get it down a few slots by getting rid of a few redundant consumables like the fruitcake but it’s not really going to change matters. Note that I don’t have a lot of stuff like some keys and other random food/crap already, but I can only do that because I have a permanent bank access contract and all the shared slots which isn’t a reasonable thing to ask of most people. Without those, my inventory used to hit around 70’ish before doing anything!
I mean, what is this really? I think it’s already pretty minimal. An additional set of armor, all weapons this character can use, some boosters, food, and blueprints with a few random things to open chests. Selling the Heavy Loot Bags/Heavy Supply bags isn’t really going to help because they’re going to come back so fast anyways so the impact is null. I suppose I could get rid of those 2 crap boosters. It’s not too bad with 160 slots, but it’s pretty awful with 100 slots.
Let’s see, from top to bottom:
- some of the buff food (get either some best buff or second best. more than sufficient. don’t hoard food buffs you will never use)
Actually I do use all of them. It’s not needed to use the most expensive food all the time. Sometimes, low tier food helps
- definately the xp booster (if you aren’t capped, use those when you decide to run some meta event or high xp activity)
Sure. I think I mentioned it above.
- that birthday gun sure seems useful – not (and yes, there are some fancy things you can do with it. it’s not needed though)
Not needed yes, but being soulbound and all, it’s pretty useless to stuff it in the bank. Good enough to help people with the buffs. I don’t need it that much.
- all the wvw siege (unless you are actually commanding, in which case: yes you do need those) in general commanders don’t like random wvw siege being droped
And if I’m not in a zerg? If even the commander disconnects? See this is the sketchy thing about telling people what they need.
- toilet paper
Yes! I’m glad people caught that. That’s just for fun.
-black lion salvage kit. the amount of things you would salvage with this make it more than acceptable to have it in your bank. Then again you are missing a mystic one so 1for1 I guess
I have a silver fed kit already.
- more useless boosters, food buffs, baloons, etc.
Celebratory boosters are useless?
And even if you should clear all the food and boosters from my inventory, that should be about around 40 slots, which is about the 1/4 OP was talking about. In the end it’s sort of details.
Anyhow, as for the rest, I just use “salvage all” and send the champ bags to the bank. For the most part I don’t even need to look at the bottom half of the inventory anyways.
I personally don’t have inventory issues, but not everyone has all those things like max bag slots and salvage kits or not, so while you can definitely say I could save a few more spaces, I can see why it’s trouble for some. For example, I have a bank express so I can just pull out the LS3 map scrolls and eaters on demand. For other people it can really impede them if they don’t have easy access to those things.
I mean, let’s bring this issue away from my personal habits for a second. There has simply been a need for more space since the game’s release. Things like keys, tokens, and whatnot, as well as the loot rain style that has happened in the form of boxes everywhere. Meanwhile, while bank storage capacity has increased, character space hasn’t.
Perhaps the tone of the thread isn’t really we NEED bag space, but rather some people want more space. I mean, we didn’t NEED “Salvage all” either, but I doubt there are people that would want to do away with it.
Here’s my rev with a significantly cleaner inventory. Those manga pies are sorta crap, but given they came free with the level 80 boost, I’ve been mostly using them up.

Yea, only real options are Bloodstone Fen and champ bag circuits if you want to stick to WvW.
I open all my champ bags with lower level characters, and therefore I almost never get any dust in WvW unless I go to Fen or start opening bags on 80s.
for there you have been and there you will long to return.
What would you throw away in Archon Wing’s screenshot? The siege because you don’t play WvW? The armor because you only use one set in one game mode? More than half my inventory is full before I even leave LA with stuff I use regularly.
And then the bag within a bag plagues the rest of my experience.
The funny thing is a lot of serious pve’rs would note the lack of dungeon specific potions stuff and multiple redundant weapons with night sigils or whathaveyou. That kind of stuff gives me headaches, and I’ve spent many of my years playing this game trying to think of stuff that doesn’t need to be there.
More casual folks are still going to have instruments, tonics and toys that they would appreciate easy access to. This isn’t even about hoarding. This is about using the expensive toys they paid gems for.
And also note that I’m usually the one to go to people “omg throw that away; how do you even play with 120 slots taken!” And yes, I know of people that keep random story items because one day Anet might remember! I also think it’s a really stupid idea to devote bank tabs storing t7 mats, and hearing people buy tabs for that is pretty cringe.
But yea, with a few exceptions, I can explain fairly easily every single item is there. And if I were to suddenly add 1-2 more builds I wanted to use, then that would suddenly bloat things fast.

Thanks for the replies everyone, i was thinking of buying a new high end gaming pc for quite some time now but the problem’s the money, it will take a few months at least to get it all together, in the meantime i think i’ll upgrade to windows 10 to keep playing
Sounds good! If money is an issue, keep in mind that even a moderately priced modern PC will generally run games (including Gw2) fairly well. This really depends on what games you play of course and if you want to play them in 2k or 4k or whathave you these days.

The problem with in-game jokes is that many players have not purchased a sense of humor (5000 gems) and have often gotten up and arms over it.
No kidding, I have seen people even complaining about SAB simply existing, as it is too silly and doesn’t fit the tone of the game. This is content that is self contained in it’s own instance that they can easily fully ignore, but they don’t like it so they complain that it is ruining the game.
Yea, it’s one thing to not like something. But it’s another thing to not like something on behalf of people where people ask for things to be removed despite the fact other people may be using it. It’s this level of self-centered First World Problem mentality that really is only possible from the comfort of a room with a PC.
That being said, I suppose in the past there have been actual issues like the bobblehead thing of which people reported disorientation. In that case, I wonder if it’d be nice to have settings that remove various effects. Right now, for example, if you turn off postprocessing, you don’t get the drunk effect visuals.
Personally, I wasn’t fond of the aviator prank, but that probably has more to do with the memory box having an effect you can’t easily get rid of. That was more of an issue with the quality of the joke and I woudn’t want to say stop any further pranks as such.
Unfortunately, in the end though, I understand why they just kept it to patch notes. Maybe it’s how gaming works these days, but I honestly think people take these kinds of games too seriously.

It’d be funny in certain areas and maybe special event cordoned off areas, but it’s not really viable in this particular game.
This is the same place where people object to opt-in dueling or even an out of place fight area because of fears of…. the boogeyman and “toxic” people because it never gets toxic in pve, apparently. The narcissism in many is real. There are people simply flat out that not only don’t care about the game design unless it affects them, but they also want to take away from whatever they aren’t. One good example was the 400 Hero points fiasco, when WvW’ers simply get dismissed when the complaints get brought up.
I mean it exists in these parts too, but we have people thinking that not devoting 100% resources to casual pve is bad, people objecting to others doing things they don’t like (eg. roleplaying) and misc complaints about all kinds of first world problems. I wish I could say it was only a tiny fringe minority, but it happens with regular occurrences.

The thing is, if the jokes are too witty and require subtle knowledge of Gw2, then it will be difficult for casual players that may not log on every April Fools. I think that is too elitist and unfair to people that spend thousands of gems every month.

Alright, let’s pause this for a moment. Read this carefully, because I will advise caution at this moment. I’d also like everyone that reads this to think twice before telling people to upgrade to a 64-bit version, because there are a number of issues that will pop up.
To avoid these crashes, you’ll need a 64-bit version of Windows (that means a completely new install, and you will have to reinstall all your programs.) and then you can use the 64-bit version of Gw2 (it’ll install automtically).
Now, if you have a Windows 7 retail CD-key, meaning you actually bought Windows 7 and installed it on a computer, you can freely switch to the 64-bit version. You can go to Microsoft’s site and create a Windows 7 64-bit install disc: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows7 (Also, please make a DVD, installing USB has been nothing but a pain for me).
However, if you bought the computer from a store which had Windows on it, which means your Windows has an OEM key, chances are you can’t just change Windows like that, without buying a new copy of Windows yourself. (At this point, you really can only buy Windows 10 now; Windows 7 support terminates in 2020 and it’d make little sense to buy it new). But if you’re going to spend money on an entirely new OS and/or more Ram, it may be time to consider a new computer….
Whatever you do, you should back up all your information now.
If you don’t want to do this, a small workaround is to try and remove any and all other unnecessary programs that run alongside gw2. Here’s a place to start: https://features.en.softonic.com/20-windows-processes-you-can-kill This will only delay the inevitable, but it should be better.
You can also turn down settings in Gw2 itself as well though unfortunately I haven’t really paid much attention to what would reduce memory usage.
It should be noted that when I was running Gw2 with only 2 gb of ram up til this year; OOM crashes weren’t that common (maybe once a week), but I usually turned everything off (including the browser!) and had most things set to low. So it is definitely possible the game is playable if you manage to axe enough unneeded programs.

More selfish build as DH typically is, but those traps, pull, and mobility can really screw people up. You’re mostly here to put your shield to block hits as people push.
Also, when a bomb is called for, throw out your spear of justice as far as you can through people because it actually can hit most people and land some purging flames. Best done before someone hits epidemic on your end.

Yea, fourthing, not much else.

What about people with 15 or even 17 inch laptop screens?
It’s resolution that matters how much stuff fits on the screen, not the size of the screen
Well okay, those with older laptops with lower resolution.
But anyhow, I think “get a better monitor” sort of deflects the issue. I mean sure, I agree that kind of thing is no good but I don’t think there’s a need for multi-icons for a single banner because it looks unsightly and I would also like it the most important buffs were to the left.
That being said, shrinking the UI was sorta nice, will have to squint a bit.
Wide screen monitor, problem solved.
No, it’s not. It just changes the type of problem.
How so? I have a wide monitor and have no problem.
How many buffs do you typically have on you though? Here’s an example of what I often get, and I just shrunk the UI. It only gets worse with more effects especially in group situations.

I think it’d be nice if the food/utility buffs were always on the far left, followed by boosters, and then whatever silly buffs you happen to pick up. Either that or just compress hero banner buffs into 1 thing.

I think the provisioned needs to default to the siege for badges tab, instead of the siege for coins tab; does anyone actually use the later?
And while we’re at it, should probaly consider changing the regular siege weapons for laurels over at the laurel vendor. That’s simply a trap.
for there you have been and there you will long to return.
We need less crap on the screen, not more. The timer is okay but it really should be movable. Why is the UI so inflexible?
for there you have been and there you will long to return.
Unless you really want to be portable (and gaming laptops tend to be much heavier than their regular laptop counterparts— which imo defeats the purpose) or you have no space, I’d really recommend your primary computer be a desktop. Even “equivalent” parts can’t run as well as their desktop parts because of heat/power. And that’s the other thing. Getting good parts and a good battery life is even harder! Chances are you’ll have to be stuck to an outlet anyways!
I would say get https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834154497 ($794 atm) that will do your work and some games on the go (including Gw2) and then save $1000 in the future to get a desktop that will be way better than spending say, 1500-2000 on a single laptop. Those extra frames really aren’t worth it; and getting a 1060 wouldn’t really help for Gw2 anyways.
This doesn’t seem too bad though and it’s reasonably light: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=2WC-000N-00068

Depends on what you meant be “max out”
If you meant full settings in giant zergs, it’s simply not going to happen even with expensive hardware. It is simply CPU bottlenecked and getting a better graphics card won’t help, and even expensive CPUs will struggle in these cases. Just game limitations.
Turn down character model limit and quality to low/medium and things should be fine.
for there you have been and there you will long to return.
From the looks of it though, it would seem the b350 motherboards are the best bet, being affordable and also having the ability to overclock while still being cheaper than the Z series counterparts. It’d be safer when stuff gets tried and tested with more reviewers though.
B350 use kittenty sound and network chips. Its not a gamers board unless you plan to fill the expansion slots with extras. It doesnt really matter if x370 boards has sli/crossfire, you are gonna get that whether you want to or not (on B350 as well). If you dont want that a fully featured X370 mATX/ITX board like Intel has would be ideal but unfortunetly AMD and motherboard manufacturers has apparently said kitten you we aint gonna make it. Only heard of one mythical mATX X370 board thats still nowhere to be seen.
Well, that’s something to take note of if b350 isn’t worth buying.
My point was just being directed to a “gamer” motherboard (of which that name gets slapped on so much) which makes one pay prices at a premium for features that might not need.
And that’s a problem here. If the only good choices are that expensive— that would sort of defeat the purpose of the lower ryzen chips even if they’re better than the intel ones.
for there you have been and there you will long to return.

That’s easily solved.
All you need to do is click on their icon in the squad/party display. If they’re not within range, then you won’t be able to select them.
Secondly, you can always just keep an eye on their boon bar. Some things are pretty obvious and you should be paying attention anyways. If you notice various boons (stability) are not going off, then you know they’re not of any use.
Barring that, why not just ask?
