-% Duration isn’t going to help. It’s good against soft CC’s but against the current burst, you’re long going to be dead before you’d see any benefit from reduced duration.
The only foods that help are those that increase vitality, or Curry Mussel Soup that actually reduces damage.
Real counters include sending epidemic bait out, using things like thieves to kill necros, and condition transfers (yes, i’ve had my epidemic “returned to sender” a few times). Problem is that these things are mostly large scale tactical and generally out of the control of individual action.
If you’re not a guardian, rev or warrior, you cannot go out in front, because if somehow you are to survive, you will have infected everyone else. You absolutely must anticipate the movements, but if they happen to not like you, you will simply not survive a coordinated attack.
I think the problem is just that it’s a lot more work to counter it, and remember, it’s not the person that gets hit by epidemic that’s the problem. It’s the people around them, so you can’t just “dodge” it.
Examples from other threads:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yj9WbKSfbao
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fuDNlqEHvzI
In video, no.1 the ele is completely helpless and there is nothing that can be done.
In video, no.2 The guardian might have survived but the margin of error is so thin(it would have required anticipation— you can’t react to that. ) basically doesn’t exist with any hint of lag and of course saying what people should do in a video is much easier than actually being there.
Most of your advice would not have saved either person. It’s not because your advice isn’t sound, it’s just not enough to handle the absurdity of the current situation.

First off, putting your OS on the SSD isn’t just for boot. It speeds up when it needs to do things like search for files or when processes run in the background— which is always.
Also, I tried copying Gw2 to my 7200 RPM regular HDD, and blech….. the load times were definitely worse to the point it was too boring for me to bother trying. However, it still took around 15-20s at most to load a map (Back and forth between Royal Terrace and Lion’s Arch). I think there’s a problem if my regular hard drive loads just as fast as your SSD. And my internet is just some slow as molasses DSL connected to really shoddy house wiring.
I mean, I used to see 40+ second load times on my old, overheating Core 2 duo machine, but I’m pretty sure if I put an SSD on it, it wouldn’t be as bad.
There’s definitely something wrong on your end. Could be the internet or drive. Or maybe heat issues, hard to say.
Finally, 30 seconds a day over the course of 365 days equals 3 hours. I feel that does matter especially since I know it’s more than that over even a brief game session.

Reverse psychology. People complain about ghost thief and it gets stronger.
Thus you should be posting:
I think stealth and conditions are perfectly balanced. I enjoy how it allows me to have so much fun farming scrublords. Please don’t change it at all, it lets me stick the game mode I want so I don’t have to pve or anything.
Then you post, get someone to post, or simply just find a video of a heavily and obviously edited MLG video of people pwning various nubs (remember to cut out the parts where you die) to obnoxious music as your proof and then give some kind of one-liner slogan to people that reply poorly. At this point the word “toxic” will appear and this is your cue that things are working right.
At this point they will think you’re having too much fun and will proceed to ruin everything on reasons of toxicity. (read: every PvE Farm)

The game deciding factor would be the single threaded performance.
Clear the cache:

And yes, to all, an SSD is a good thing to have. Also, depending on how small the SSD drive is; it can be a problem because SSDs do slow down when they get too full. Windows takes up a good chunk. Gw2 takes up 20. On mine, I redirect all photos, documents, videos, and the desktop to the regular hard drive. They don’t really need the speed and I usually download large files straight to desktop.
Anyhow, I uploaded a gameplay sample: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qm0X_ydAMfc&feature=youtu.be
This is par the course when it comes to loading times.

Nope, that’s perfectly typical. I have a i5-6500 and the same graphics card. See the same issue. Welcome to an old game engine. I have it capped at 60 frames (no v-sync)
You can do whatever you want, but it’ll be a futile task. Turn your settings back up (leave character model limit and shadows at low). No point in gimping the game experience— turn it down only when you start lagging.
Don’t worry about hurting your CPU. As long as your temps are fine, you’re good to go.

[x] lol guild hall reta/confusion

Revs may be more important, but I don’t think Revs make eles redundant. For one, Revs have to be babysat by guardians because their own stability is incredibly lacking. If you lose a guardian in the middle of a fight, both revs and necros start to lose lots of effectiveness. Unless the necros want to demean themselves by taking Foot in the Grave but nobody wants to stoop that low. (This is why I think Warriors are underrated)
And then there’s that whole thing where the most valuable things they give (boon spam and pain absorption) can suddenly turn them into huge liabilities. Namely, corruption and epidemic on a Herald that’s just used the aforementioned pain absorption. Try it! It’s funny.
Then we remember that Auras can’t be countered in the same sense.
Eles also have access to a blink and easy access to AOE Superspeed. Also, I know it’s silly, but the ability to move away when downed also occasionally matters.
Finally, if Revs are taking the tablet, it’s not like it goes free either. They either don’t have Glint (boons), or Dwarf for the cool kids with nice groups (damage reduction).
A lot of people seem to focus a lot on their raw damage or healing or whatnot but they gloss over the details. What good is it when you have all the best stats in the world but you can’t land anything?
(edited by ArchonWing.9480)
Well, the other thing is that sellers tend to sell anything new at a higher price than the stated price often, making the wait longer than one would expect. Recently, for example, we had the i3-7100 selling on Newegg for $139 lulz. And then the motherboards are still sorta pricey.
Just be careful.
Please lay off the ridiculous strawmen. It’s relative. Sure, OP may have many ascended rings, but it’s over time and relative, to say, green and blue drops. Ascended rings are not common unless you do certain content like fractals. For people that don’t do them, they don’t show up much. I probably see one like every few months.
Maybe ascended rings shouldn’t vendor for 10g, but vendoring for 5s or whatever they do it as is pretty lame. They aren’t as common as greens I assume. And in terms of potential value, they’re probably worse than rares and exotics that can be salvaged into materials.
Personally, I’d like a forge recipe to convert them, or use them as a crafting component.

This has been a thing for a long while and with the popularity of epidemic, you really have to watch where you stand and also have a group with some resistance/cleanse. But in terms of healing it’s quite hard to beat.

Absolutely no point in investing in subpar rune sets, spamming 2 shouts off cooldown, or soloing with a staff.
All you really need is retreat and shout reduction cooldown. You have swiftness for 20 seconds every 24 seconds.
If you want more, you can just use something like https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Chocolate_Orange
It only costs 5c each, and you could put in buy orders for 3c if you really want to pinch those pennies.
That gives 22s of swiftness with retreat.

This issue is popping up every time a new chapter is released, it would seem. I always have enough or 1-2 more, but then there’s a new LS mastery and I again have to go fish for mastery points.
Each living story zone has contained enough mastery points for me to complete the associated mastery?
It does. That wasn’t my point. The point is that if I do anything else but get the mastery points I have useless xp
You can always mute/reduce volume if people you don’t want to hear as well.
You can always make your own group. Nothing dictates that you have to join a squad to follow anyone anyways.
The game is harsh on the CPU, but you shouldn’t be getting 8 fps. So definitely check those temperatures and see if dust is in your case.
Try Full Screen (Windowed), and have graphics set to “best performance”
You may want to remove the game bar from Windows 10. http://www.tomshardware.com/faq/id-3091550/turn-game-bar-windows.html

The recipes come with MRM. Only one legitimate user per copy. Unauthorized use may result in lawsuits.
At this point, there’s little reason to not add Ascended gear to the WvW vendor. In the past, players could procur the highest gear (exotics) from the vendors but they really haven’t been updated much.
If you want to gate them like other ascended are that is fine, but I think that would still be worth the while.
Or perhaps collections that unlock an special ascended piece of gear with a skin.
Of course, I’ve always thought that prioritizing scoring first was a dumb idea because it’s like changing the thermometer when you get a fever. It does nothing!
But it’s also clear that this scoring metric is more valuable to many as shown by those polls that picked scoring and siege improvements over actual improvements. And why is that? The knee jerk reaction is to blame “casuals” and “pvers” except those groups are even less prone to give a kitten about PPT and score since losing just means more things to karma train.
Unfortunately, it’s just the sad reality that the population cares about winning the score than anyone would like to admit.
Sure, I know a lot of you don’t think like that. The very fact that you’re probably here posting and/or reading this crap is because you give a kitten about game quality. You may surround yourself with people that think similarly. Nobody’s going to come out and admit they stay on siege on Gw2wvw.net, yes. because they’d get laughed into the next country. You go out on your nightly raids with your guildies and your friends for three hours and pat each other on the back. Beat up some enemy pugs led by a guild and then they get kittened and voltron up but at least you can have fun until then. But it really turns out you folks are in the minority once you log off— it just goes back to the backcapping race. And this is evident the moment you look up at an objective.
But that’s just how it is. Endless agenda pushing discussion about coverage and what server to open next, sending spies to pull tactivators, strategical stacking of servers by…. well, I won’t name names. And what, why? Because people do care about the score. And if balance be kitten ed, well they don’t care. Proof? Well, just look all around you. So guess what— who has the more incentive to vote in those polls?
Anet seriously needs to reconsider their priorities, because all we will get is mediocrity because it’s supported by people that want mediocrity as long as they get to be on top.

I’ve never had a problem with self equipping at lower levels. Besides, buying a green or two to fill in the gap is so easy that any efforts to change things seems pretty pointless.
I do not think doing the same dozen tasks repeatedly should account for the grand majority of such a score. In fact, I think it makes it a joke.
As I pointed out 1500 days equals 15000 AP… while it is a lot of points, that is 4 years of life. I disinclined to look at it as a joke as much as just a small amount of credit for loyalty that goes toward shinnies.
And I think it’s a fair amount. 4 years of “work” so to speak should count for something, but I do think that’s a good chunk; nearly 1/2 the maximum amount.
I think if daily AP were infinite, then it’d be more time efficient to do those, and be like “meh” to AP that’s worth like a few. There’s no real incentive to go out and do them.
Though, as the amount of AP available increases, I wouldn’t object to raising the cap in the future to adjust.
Personally, I enjoyed doing monthlies, and wouldn’t mind even longer term ones. But that’s just me.
I like your thoughts on the WVW but I wonder how that could be done… repeatable achievements in WVW? There are really only so many dolyaks I can escort.
I appreciate your comments, ArchonWing.
Either they could be worth more, or repeatable, yes. Some achievements are repeatable a finite amount of times like “Master of Entropy” I always thought World Rank should give achievements too.
In any case, if you go into any LS zone you get achievements popping up everywhere you go, and that’s how it should be IMO. WvW doesn’t change that much, due to a lack of features and by necessity so adjustments have to be made there.
I would go supply master first (ignore the last level). The swiftness and supply recycle help a lot with helping out and it doesn’t cost many points.
Provision master is of course good; grab the first 3 tiers asap.
Then, I’d grab the first 2 tiers of siege bunker and guard attack/defense. Just makes life easier to solo places.
I’d then invest a little into build master. First level makes a big difference, 2nd a little less.
After that, start working more on finishing provisoner and siege bunker. Then I’d start looking at Ram/Catapult mastery, although note these things are sorta all or nothing. If you don’t have full mastery, you’re better off giving it to someone else— the exception is if you are doing things solo or in a small group.
Of course, once you get all these, you might want to sink a little more into build mastery and supply capacity, but the later is pretty expensive and you want to do that over time. It’s good though.
Most of the other siege weapon masteries are sorta nice to have, but you don’t really need them. I rarely use them anyways (I fire a treb once a month). For those, just pick your favorite one that you actually use and max it out.
Oh, and skip the mercenary one until you run out of things to do.
This issue is popping up every time a new chapter is released, it would seem. I always have enough or 1-2 more, but then there’s a new LS mastery and I again have to go fish for mastery points.
Granted, there’s a lot of points in the new zones though I feel a bit dragged to them at this rate as this effectively freezes my XP bar until I find some.
So level 80 characters can’t use these things.
Is there a real reason for this? I know you can buy tomes of experience with them, but that’s a rather roundabout way of doing things.
Also I wrote the title wrong, sorry.
(edited by ArchonWing.9480)
Achievements are a system in the game to help gauge what a player has accomplished in the game. They are awarded for completing various tasks spanning all game types; PvE, PvP, and WvW.
I do not think doing the same dozen tasks repeatedly should account for the grand majority of such a score. In fact, I think it makes it a joke. The cap is a compromise between farmability and having some semblance of meaning.
Furthermore, “veteran” players have already had the opportunity to get more AP from festivals and events. They’ve also have had more chance to be handed daily login rewards that reward you for basically existing.
I log on to get 2 gold and some extra materials. That is enough value in and of itself, if not too much compared to effort.
OP’s problem is easily solved by adding more WvW achievements, because as is they are a terrible effort:reward ratio. And that’s with adjustments.
(edited by ArchonWing.9480)
Epidemic needs to be reworked, plain and simple.
Bandaids aren’t going to balance this issue.
The skill can be balanced and still be a powerful tool for condi-spikes and carrying out numbered fights.
1st .. the “25” condition cap is broken and not working as intended, we’ve tested this, and the .gif I’ve attached in the OP is proof of this as well. This could easily follow the same condition table as Corrupt Boon https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Corrupt_Boon … and what I mean by this is – it will apply a multiplier from this table as you see it I.E. 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x what’s currently on the table, per Epidemic cast on target, if those conditions exist.
2nd .. the cooldown is way to short, cleanses to counter an EPI spike don’t share nearly the same cooldown I.E. Virtue Of Resolve (when traited, can clear up to 5-conditions on Guard, and 3-conditions on allies); this has a 30-second cooldown whereas Epidemic has a 15-20 second cooldown reduction depending if you trait for it or not. This is just one example. Other examples can be reviewed here .. https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Condition#Skills_that_remove_conditions
3rd .. there’s no clear indication that the Necromancer is channeling such an aggressive skill. A poster in this thread mentioned implementing a floater signaling Epidemic is being cast.
4th .. it’s unblockable, IMHO if you want this to remain unblockable make the core skill blockable, then make it unblockable if it’s traited for; so it doesn’t get abused by power necro specs as well.
Edit: For illuminati reasons, you should know that I mentioned my guild utilizes this skill and coordinates EPI-Spikes on targets. Even against organized groups we’re matched up against, we’re still insta-gibbing 2-3 players minimum on top of the original target. We still intend to use Epidemic after the rework, but the skill as it currently stands is overpowered because of the way it exponentially scales.
- Post of mine from earlier in this thread.
Reasonable Epidemic adjustments
Reduce radius to 240. The current radius is massive and twice the size of Meteor Shower. A radius reduction would be more than okay.
Reduce range to 900. Although this would be a pretty heavy nerf, especially with the radius reduction as well, it would add a bigger risk/reward factor to the skill. Getting close to targets in zerg fights as a Necromancer isn’t a good idea. Reducing the range could promote more skillful decisions.
Disallow it from working on high health NPC’s and siege. It’s not fair to be bouncing so many conditions off of things that normal players cannot survive. This would be a perfectly acceptable change.
What the community wants
Remove it!
Make it transfer only one condition every few seconds!
Quadruple the cooldown!
Increase the cast time!
Long winded rant about how it’s broken and a half baked idea to completely rework the skill so that it functions completely differently and no one ever uses it again because reasons. (You fit this one well). What ANet will do
Half-listen to the community, knee jerk nerf it to the point that it becomes even more niche than what it currently is.
Community cries that bunker meta is too stong.
Reasonable Epidemic adjustments
Questionable Epidemic Adjustments

(edited by ArchonWing.9480)
The last part of the guard attack/defense line used to give guard stacks which were basically bonuses to stats for killing guards up to 5. Since they gave an advantage in battle, they were pretty desirable. That was removed and now it’s sorta whatever.
Player issue on ele, out of position to get ally buffss and cleanses :^)
Said player had 2,300 ping from the server.
So I’d like to make things clear. The player had 2300 ping average in this screenshot? Because everything can look like an insta-pwn with 1k+ ping.
It’s not like I don’t believe it could happen, but just making sure of the facts. I mean I’ve had 2-3 seconds kills on me because your average auramancer isn’t as equipped to have many instant on-demand cleanses. Also, hats off to them for still playing. I have trouble with if the ping hits 230, much less any higher.
I’m not Sherlock, but those condi seen in this short video were way beyond redemption. He would need a cleanse/resist from an ally in the next second, with or without ping issues. Those 2 tick kills from epidemic are not a rare sight, you can see such behavior in many epidemic videos on youtube.
¯\(?)/¯
Well, that’s not what I was getting at. Yes, ping issues or not, he might have died. And sure I know you can be instantly ded’d by these things. What I was referring to is during times of really bad lag, the game may “fast forward” things when it catches up so that everything happens at once which makes it look like everything happened at once.
Of course, is that all we’re really seeing is a life bar going down without any real context. I don’t know if the ele was focused in a fight or just happened to run into 30 people.
The guy receiving the condies had the ping, the guy who made the gif was fine. The gif is an accurate depiction, no lag catch-up there.
Ok, that makes more sense.
August 28, 2012 Game release:
Epidemic has been added to the game.Back then, condition had a cap. If you had 10 necros doing epidemic… You would simply overkill the cap and it was pointless. Nowadays it is exponential since you will double the previous effect. jumping from 16 stack to 32 to 64 in no time. For sure it takes some time to set up -> corrupt boon -> epi and other necros also use epi on target. But the problem like it was mentionned is that other players get punished for the mistakes of their ally.
Best way to kill a guild group? Target the pugs (preferably a rev since he will pop resist and thus give you more time to build up the condi bomb) that follow them around even if they are not in squad (see here closed squad) and spread the love with 60+ stacks of condi! <3
There was also no torment burning did not stack poison did not stack and over all the % where much weaker and condi dmg was a utility effect not a dmg tool.
Oh, and confusion got buffed. Geniuses.
Why is this still a thing?

Might want to take a look.
Hi
While this wasn’t us in particular that nuked these guys today, we have done so many many times in the past, now heres the kicker and the funny thing. One of the guilds that is almost immune to condi (thus epi), is on their link (don’t know if server) and often fights right besides them.
I will not get specific with names here due to forum rules, but these guys truly have L2P issues, and as 1 poster above pegged it, its exactly and precisely the out of position people that we focus on, and this dude clearly got focused in such a manner, just by a different guild on a different day.
We usually run around 20-30 ish people and go vs map que size groups. We win some, we lose some. Incidentally, we’re already working on our next meta based on today’s patch and are looking forward to the new calls for nerfs which will be coming within next few weeks. Are you ?
All that said, there does need to be some limits and balance, I have stated multiple times that there is really no reason to have more then 25 stacks of any single condi on any single player, that the general HOT powercreep needs to be toned down all around, everything, and I do mean everything. All base stats in the game are too high at the moment and no matter what half decent team build you come up with some aspect of it will be broken and OP. There are simply no trade offs since the time when stats have been removed from trait lines.
Ah, thanks for the input. I figured these issues are related, and I do agree there’s no need for 25+ stacks of condi. Though I imagine a lot of these things can be countered with resistance. Coordinated groups can definitely remove it with boon removal, but Corrupt Boon is the real only thing that can instagib (well besides bountiful theft lulz). Though in these cases, being focused that hard will be hard to survive.

Might want to take a look.
Wait negative condi duration doesn’t work on transferred condis? WTfF?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a1Y73sPHKxw
Anyhow, blasting light fields isn’t going to mean a kitten , but it does look like various anti-condi skills have been buffed.
Healing Rain: The recharge of this skill has been reduced from 45 seconds to 40 seconds.
Virtue of Resolve: This skill has been unsplit from PvP and will now use a 30-second cooldown. (This is pretty big— 33% cooldown reductoon)
“Receive the Light!”: The recharge of this skill has been reduced from 40 seconds to 30 seconds. (More potential cleanses and sustain)
“Shake It Off!”: The number of conditions removed by this skill has been increased from 1 to 2.
As a side note, all those banner buffs— wouldn’t this be an opportunity to buff battle standard?
Signet of Agility: Condition cleansing has been increased from 1 to 3 in all game modes.
lel invite thieves to your zergs.
More group cleanses could be considered; they need to not be easily interrupted. Maybe if you’d give engineers respect, you’d make those elixirs not reflectable and help the group more. There’s also an oppurtunity to make Medical Dispersion Field help with condis and not be garbage but hah you think there’s only 8 classes in this game. /salty
I also suggest buffing anti-condi food. Either increase the – duration or give -condition damage. Sure, that makes it better than condi food but this is because we have gear that increases condi duration but none that decreases it. Either that or consider capping 25 stacks on players-- pretty sure that would help server stability too.

Frontline Guardians are now stronger than before (Stronger virtues, stronger GS, Recieve the Light buffed)… lol k. We also see a nerf to the evil DH pull.
Ele staff has some small buffs, and thank god Overload Air was only PvE nerfed
I’m not sure PvE and WvW are now considered as separate since as a general rule WvW is still considered part of PvE. Can anyone confirm Overload air is still the same in WvW ?
It’s stronger in WvW, so it’s safe to say it’s what exactly what it said— pve only.
And yes, I know the Bloodlust thing affects matters. EOTM has it as 716 vs 669 in pve. Which is a difference of 7%. And yes, I had a food buff that expired during this but rest assured that changed nothing because I don’t have any +stats food

Friendly fire beta.
Blobs where is your deity now?
Wait, what do we need hardened leather for again? Hardened leather is only a small part of crafting ascended armor and most leather that is needed to make the square has been getting cheaper over time.
Exotics? There’s named armor, including the one that really matters— berserker— and also karma armor. The HoT stats have always been expensive to craft; the cost has just been moved elsewhere. You get 2g a day from just doing dailies. If you can’t muster up the 100-150g, then you probably don’t need HoT exotics to begin with. Exotic Weapons + Rare Armor + Rare trinkets—-> Convert to ascended trinkets with laurels or map currency. I doubt you’ll notice the difference and save up tons of gold so you can make ascended weapons.

It’s all over the place.
The intent is nice, but the problem with a weapon that has problems hitting a target isn’t going to be solved by putting more damage on it. I guess lower cooldown leaps…
Also Torch QQ
