Ele staff has some small buffs, and thank god Overload Air was only PvE nerfed

And they actually fixed Garrison Gate. Only took 4 years!

there u go 1 error/lucky interupt and thief is done.
thats what u never see, cus who cares if a thief dies he didnt harm u and what doesnt harm u doesnt need a nerf.

for example if a ele uses meteor in a blob and he crit hits some1 for 10k no1 cares cus blob is cluster kitten fight and no1 bothers checking anything.
but what if ele meteor cast was instant and would rain down much faster? they would smash in 1v1 no? then ele is OP as hell no? cus all of sudden they get attention because they solo and when u 1v1 and u die fast its OP and reason to complain.

well thief can do the 1v1 part as trade off we cant do a jackkitten in a blob.
i dont see the problem tbfh.

as for vid who ever says im bad, sure im never said im good.
but please go live stream and put up full lenght of live stream of u followin commander in blob fights.
u stand no chance no1 will sacrifice a spot for thief in a good PT, unless u wanna proof a point and get ur bf commander to put u with 4 guards. so u dont get pushed/pulled/interupted constantly.

Should put some food.

Don’t waste your dodges like that. Yea I know it’s fun to do it on a DD but you used up 2 dodges when they were nowhere near you.

Also, there was absolutely no point in trying to kite. when your whole group was retreating. Dinging someone with the shortbow isn’t going to help matters. When they come at you like that, there’s generally nothing for you to hit; you have to wait until either they go back, or they disperse a bit.

I mean, of course hindsight is 20/20, but had you done any of these things you would have made it back to spawn.

What does "stab" mean? and more

in WvW

Posted by: ArchonWing.9480

ArchonWing.9480

I wouldn’t say the other classes are “pointless” but guardians, necros, revs, and eles are essential to a zerg and thus the most needed.

Stab one and two refers to the rotation. The first guardian in the party uses their stability when called, and the second one uses it when stab two is called. Stability does not stack in duration thus if 2 guardians use it at the same time, it’s a bit wasted. If the 2 guardians are properly built and time it right, then they can maintain stability most of the time barring corruptions. The Rev’s facet of nature, which gives +33% boon duration helps a lot with this.

Metabattle is “good enough” in the sense that you can use it as a starting point and it’ll probably work. You can just replace celestial with Solder (Power—Toughness-Vitality)

A better realization of one’s limits— of what one can do as opposed to what one cannot do— would greatly reduce a lot of complaints. =p

Take the whole thing about switching out a utility skill or so to make things easier. Is it because people won’t do it because they can’t (unlikely) or because they usually don’t and never considered in an option until brought up?

People are way too quick to focus on what they can’t do. Don’t be afraid to fail, because the reward is way greater than the risk. You might realize you were capable of things you never knew.

They last 45 minutes instead of 30. Judging by “Show base ingredients”, it’s 87s11c to make 5, which means they’re worth around 17s42c, which makes them a little more cost effective than superior sharpening stones which are 12-15s depending if you use buy orders or not.

They both get wrecked by potent superior stones though, which last an hour and cost around 18s.

Passing the Centaur Camp on a Berserker:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tE5Hc5l7U3E

Okay, this was a lot harder than I thought since Warrior has no way to stealth or have minions/pets to block so you pretty much have to eat it all. So I used a shield and confused skill 4 and 5, because 4 is typically “block” for other classes. (Why are you so inconsistent Anet?) I’m sure people can do better when they actually know what their skills do.

I don’t PvE on my warrior so she uses some tank (wanderer/soldier gear and zerker trinkets) but isn’t full tank. Also, to be fair, I failed the first try and almost did here but I owe that to having less than 100 hours on warrior ( by and far my worst class). In addition, balanced stance is a bad choice for this— outrage is already good enough to handle the CC, and you’re better off taking something like dolyak signet.

As a side note, do people really do open world without a speed boost? I could never do that myself.

ArchonWing.9480

Well, I can understand the trouble by putting a giant target on one’s head; wouldn’t be fun, considering the thread about pin sniping.

And of course there’s always the complaints too; fits being thrown because of alleged bias (claiming objectives for the Anet guild). Some examples:

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/wuv/Objective-Claiming-by-ANeT-unprofessional/6254949

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/wuv/ANET-Seriously-1/5547327

I understand that some of you know Anet would understand the game better if they actually play it and fears of Anet mysteriously showing preference to a server would do more harm than help. If you do, you’re probably a reasonable human being, but unfortunately there are many others that don’t think like this and wear tin foil hats.

Anyhow, I’m aware YB has one, and on SBI I recall being helped by one too when I was newer to the game.

I guess rangers also lack a good swiftness utility though the druid trait gives 33%movement.

Thing is, you don’t even need a Swiftness buff. Usually the 25% passives grant more than enough jumping distance. (Which just kinda highlights how back 100% movement speed is…) So, ranger, thief, and necro can just temp-slot the signet.

Guard can swap to Retreat, many Warriors run with the melee-weapon 25% move boost or slot it because they like Fast Hands anyway. Revenant Shiro/Glint gives swiftness, Engi has lots of tricks to make the jumps: toolkit swiftness, buff potion, shotgun jump, mecha legs. Mesmer has chrono passive, signet of inspiration, or focus 4. Ele has air attunement, air staff, or the procs from aura/overloads.

There’s no enemies in the hollow, so it shouldn’t be a problem to swap for mobility and switch back when you have both achievements. (Magic gather is a full circle around the island.)

I dunno. With only 25% (Engineer Mecha legs or Ranger Signet of the Hunt) I had difficulty. With swiftness I did it immediately. Might have been psychological though; who knows.

And yes I agree that swapping a few things around isn’t a big deal. That’s why build choices matter, lol.

You only need to do it one character (per day) anyways, Can even park a character there for days at a time.

I also don’t really accept equipping swiftness on your bar to be a change worth complaining about. That takes about 10 seconds tops to switch back and forth. Part of the game does involve adapting what you use properly. The only class that should find that to be an annoyance are mesmers (their swiftness skills aren’t too good and require a specific weapons), eles , and….. mesmers. They do have a way to gain 25% movement passively though. However, it does seem to be a bit harder with it.

I guess rangers also lack a good swiftness utility though the druid trait gives 33%movement.

Also, I’m pretty sure I could run through the centaur camp with most classes. But I’m glad there’s a place to glide from without that found now

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=htDtAlwkAoY&feature=youtu.be

Just going to place what I put in the description here as well. Ask if you want more help.

For those of you that don’t want to bother making the jumps to get the peach or the mastery point, you can always make your way up the centaur camp and glide down, just have enough mobility and heals (stealth is desirable!). In this case of the druid, I made use of Resounding Timbre (Shouts give regeneration), and Celestial Shadow (You go into stealth upon leaving Celestial Avatar). Signet of the hunt was probably redundant; should have put another shout in its stead.

This was hardly optimized at all. I left an offensive tree as one of my specializations (could have put in nature magic or wilderness survival). I also should have tried harder to avoid things and take my time, but I just wanted to show you don’t have to be anything near perfect to do this.

It also helps to get some gear with healing power, vitality or toughness just for this. Those unused random ascended rings or cheap rare gear will suffice. There is a lot of healing power/vitality or healing power/toughness armor that can be found at 60 silver a piece.

After that, you can go also east and glide down to get your peach.

O_o you certainly like doing things the hard way

Well, considering it took me 15 minutes on that 1 pillar jump, I think it’s at least more exciting.

Thing is, the brute force method isn’t reliant on ping or any kind of accuracy; it’s really just spamming buttons— good for those like me that really lack finesse. I’m honestly glad it’s an option.

This tactic also works for most HoT maps too unless you have to fight things. :p Also, personal waypoints (alt-click) can help if you get lost.

Unless you are just running up there without activating any skill ping does matter.

I said “isn’t reliant on ping”, not immune to ping. I mean it goes without saying that if you have 1000 ping and can’t activate skills then there wasn’t anything to discuss.

As long as they fire within a few seconds that’s fine. That’s more than enough time to miss a ledge if the glider doesn’t open. And there have been various complaints of the sort.

Sudden FPS Drop

Well, 40 fps in a crowded area is definitely more playable than single digits.

Anyhow, I suspect it may be a Windows 10 issue because I remember reading: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/support/GW2-in-Win10-150XX-requires-Comp-Mode/6470476

Yea, it’s a unrelated issue, but it had to do with problems that forced people to play Windowed Full screen so I wouldn’t be surprised if this was somehow related. You may also want to set compatibility mode and play around with that.

Game unplayable, sudden massive FPS drop

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: ArchonWing.9480

ArchonWing.9480

Also take a look at this thread having similar trouble: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/support/Sudden-FPS-Drop-5/6494149

I seem to get tons of crashes from gw2 every time a new HOT map comes out, and tons of people start playing the game again. Likely has something to do with their servers not being able to handle the higher load of players online.

It’s more likely that a client crash is related to local issues on your computer, than the server — which would simply result in the client reporting that it lost communication, and everyone on the server falling off.

Using a 32-bit client is known to have memory management issues that can lead to crashes when there are a large number of active players. Check you are using the 64-bit client.

It automatically updates to the 64-bit version if possible, so I don’t think that’s the issue. If running a 32-bit system, the only solution would be to get a 64-bit OS and probably more Ram. And that pretty much only helps a computer with exactly 4 gb of ram since 64-bit Windows itself takes up more memory.

Though I’d imagine a computer still running a 32-bit system (and thus <= 4gb of ram) is probably quite dated at this point and I am not sure if people would want to spend the effort on upgrading such a computer or even reinstalling everything and just leaving it as is until it dies. For example, some motherboards may not even support more than 4gb of ram, and then when that happens, you might as well just scrap everything.

That kind of crash by lack of memory are very specific and obvious. Crash.dmp will show a OOM error. On my old computer with only a puny 2 gb , the crashes wouldn’t happen anywhere outside of WvW after a long while. So from experience, I didn’t really think it was worth changing Windows to 64 bit on a low memory system. (And yes, I tried— the crashes will go away but the lag got much worse. So it was deciding between the infrequent crash or an unplayable game.)

tl;dr The real solution is to get a 64-bit OS with more than 4 gb. (Though a 64-bit OS with 4 gb of Ram is possible such as on a laptop I have, I think that’s only a temporary solution and it will only get worse as time goes on.)

Question about 1080 GPU + GW2

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: ArchonWing.9480

ArchonWing.9480

Being a CPU bound game, top tier GPUs aren’t going to make that big of a difference because you are being limited by the game itself— even mid-tier GPUs fall asleep dealing with Gw2.

However, there’s really nothing for you to really upgrade to that wouldn’t be a huge waste of money. An i7 processor would not benefit Gw2 (or most games anyways) as it woudn’t be able to make good use of the hyperthreading and Kaby Lake is only a bit faster than Skylake.

We can only hope the Zen hype is real.

The first thing I’d do is make sure you are only using 20 slot bags.

Then, I’d slowly (not all at once! Repeat!) convert gold to gems when the prices are relatively reasonable (less than 100g for 400 gems) and buy an extra bag slot/bank slot when they go on sale. After that I’d aim for a copper fed salvage kit.

If you want ascended, focus entirely on weapons first, as armor is very expensive and not that big of a deal.

My path would be like

Bag Slot —-> Bank Slot —-—> Copper Fed Salvage Kit —-> Bag Slot —-> Ascended weapon crafting —--> (bank slots as you feel full) —-> Shared Inventory Slot —-> Infinite Gathering Tools

And yes, that would be a lot of gold.

Personally, I never bothered with legendaries. I went for this:

Long loading screen in WvW

I haven’t gotten it on my new computer but IIRC it seems to happen a lot when I tried to WP to an area that gets contested before I finish loading— my old comp was slow and had no SSD so chances are it would occur quite often especially if it was WP’ing across maps.

Do you plan on playing just Gw2 or running new titles at good settings? Because you probably don’t need 1k for Gw2.

A few notes:

CPU: The most popular is a modern Intel I5 (Although AMD will come out with Ryzen next month; it could be similar.) Right now, it’s really just intel. The most recent ones you will see are Skylake or Kaby Lake. Skylake processors start with 6xxx (6th gen), while Kaby lake starts with 7xxx (7th gen).

There’s not much of a difference between either, though Kaby Lake is a little newer and better. But…
Older CPUs aren’t necessarily worse by that much but they don’t drop in price. Currently Kaby Lake motherboards are a bit more expensive and untested (err…. unreviewed) so Skylake remains an option. (Well, technically a Skylake-compatible motherboard can be updated but that requires you to have a CPU before hand or you know the manufacturer has done that, and that opens a new can of worms that isn’t worth fretting over the $20 and is too much for me to type)
Which I5 you get isn’t too big of a deal, though there is a caveat. The “K” version of a CPU can be overclocked. These are labeled like i5-7600k. However, to overclock, you must buy a more expensive motherboard— z170 (Skylake)or z270 (Kabylake). Those also do not come with a cooler, and you need to get your own.

I7s are of course better, but they are a lot more expensive and many people don’t think they’re better for gaming, especially not Gw2 which cares a lot more for single threaded performance. I7s are better for multitasking.

tl;dr I5-6500, i5-6600k, i5-7500, i5-7600k are generally the ones to look for.
Edit: Add Ryzen 5 1400 and 1600 to the list.

GPU That really depends on what you want. There’s many options at the $100 range or better. Basic cards include the Rx 460 and GTX 1050. If you want more power, consider the RX 470 or RX 480 which can cost 150-250 depending on which version you want. Top end cards like the GTX 1070 and 1080 are quite costly but very powerful. It’s pretty straightforward

Ram 8GB is recommended, if you run a ton of applications in the background you may opt for more. But that’s a fairly low priority compared to other things because ram is a yes or no thing. You either have enough or don’t. Getting 32 gb of ram when you could improve your GPU would be absurd, for example.

Case Honestly, doesn’t matter though check if it has USB 3.0. I recommend a mid-tower case; they’re pretty spacious already unless you’re going to put a ton of stuff. Big cases are also more expensive and it’s not 1992 anymore. Pick one that looks nice though!

Storage As said many times, SSDs help with load times and boot times. They’re pretty good, but expensive. I would suggest a modest size (240 GB), and maybe an additional 7200 RPM 1 TB regular hard drive to store your regular files. Use the SSD to store all your games, programs, and Windows. Your common files don’t really need that blazing speed; if you want more storage, consider getting an external HD which is good for backup.

Power Supply The most important thing you want to look at. More wattage isn’t always better! A bad no-name brand at 800w will still blow up your whole computer. Good brands include EVGA and Corsair, but don’t buy the bottom level models for them either. Quality over quantity. You can use sites like pcpartpicker to estimate power usage, and add a bit of a buffer to be safe.

I recommend pcpartpicker.com People post and discuss builds, and there’s lots of reviews for individual parts.

Regardless of what parts you pick, you should do some research— comb reviews, watch videos and look for good deals!
Below is outdated Since Ryzen Release: Please check dates and read posts below.
Anyhow, I tried whipping this up: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Jcv9Fd This is probably utterly wrong and scrub because I only spent 10 minutes on this and did not look for the best deals (which you should), so people can feel free to correct it so I may learn. I think it’s a good outline

Why should you access any place that is part of the LS without having that part unlocked? You should not be able to access the events to go with the LS part that you don’t have.

Because up to now, not unlocking the LS just means you don’t get to play the story. Now it would be a double whammy with the zone and the story. It would be like not letting people into Silverwastes if they didn’t have LS2.

I think it’d be helpful to maintain accessibility so that these new zones aren’t going to be empty once the bulk of people are done farming stuff and achievements.

And besides, people that don’t unlock it can already use a teleport to friend anyways to reach the zone…

I find that to be a problem. The story, sure, but charging gem access for an entire zone I think will cause more problems.

The Noblesse Oblige mastery has been disabled in competitive game modes.

I didn’t realize that crap worked in WvW. Good riddance.

The Permanent Portable Provisioner can now be used while moving.

That actually matters to me, lol

That really depends if zone access is locked by the living story. I personally don’t think it should be.

[Noob Question]Whats the catch of the TP?

You must pay a fee to list an item. This fee is taken from you regardless if you sell it or not, so if it fails to sell, you lost gold. There’s also a fee again when you sell it. It adds to 15% in total.

In practice, there’s not much of a catch though.

Curious why more people don't PvP or WvW

I don’t like PvP, but tried WvW a few times and found it confusing. Getting started on an empty map section, hard to detect which color is yours, silence, no one chats in general, so no way to find out where your supposed team mates are… Am I missing something??

The color thing is quite a problem. Been playing for 4 years and sometimes I still forget what color is ours.

Though I suppose I’m just here to find red names though. I’m not particularly discriminate.

That being said, I think there’s a lot of unintuitive stuff.

Honestly, nobody should expect zerglings to fight. That’s not really reasonable.

Well, maybe if 50 of them are in a keep.

Realistically speaking, there’s no real way to impose this sort of thing— yes I know people say they want to come in to fight, but as much as some would like to imply, it’s evident that many people play WvW for other reasons, like PPT or w/e. Evidenced by scoring being such a huge agenda and it being voted a priority.

Sure, it’s pretty annoying to see people running condi kittenter/run away builds, but on the other hand I assume quite a few have been bitten too much by +3’ers or just even the whole zerg called on them and they need to just have that level of disnengage.

As for the salt whispers, I’m wondering why that’s a bad thing. Usually if I get a mail from someone that tells me how I ruined their life, it’s a pretty kitten ed good day. I mean, you should ask them to elaborate so they can write a book about you.

Well, let’s see.

The city is in a terrible situation and they said there would be delays. How bad would the delay be? Nobody’s saying anything. Gee, either the storm has really messed things up, or they’re just thinking of ways to spite you. I know, I’m going to go with the later!

Takes about 15 seconds on google to find out what’s going on.

It’s just a huge duh, and there really shouldn’t be any spoon feeding.

Now, if one were to use that thing behind one’s eyes, for a little bit, they could figure out, “Hey, there’s tons of damage to that area, better not devote my time waiting for it for the rest of the day! No estimates really would make any sense anyways…”

If.

Honestly, if they updated every half an hour with “LOL POWER STILL OUT” that would be insulting my intelligence. I think they assumed people would be smarter than that.

I guess not.
