Rifle for WvW

in Engineer

ArchonWing.9480

I actually just use the generic inventions/alchemy/scrapper with a rifle in place of hammer without perfectly weighted of course. Final Salvo is great as you can use overcharged shot without knocking yourself down and also gives you the superspeed needed to actually do functional kiting. It also has synergy with mass momentum and rapid regeneration; either has its advantages and disadvantages.

For utilities I take Bulwark Gyro, Elixir Gun, and something else (most likely purge or sometimes tool kit. )

The main thing is that you aren’t kited as easily and jump shot is a pretty good surprise. Of course, it’s pretty crappy that good damage requires you to get close anyways, sort of negating the whole ranged weapon weapon thing. You will probably stalemate against bunkers as a result.

The downside of course is you lose blocks and leap finishers.

Nope, just attuned rings. Was never a big fan of fractals.

I do suggest trying to get them attuned though if you are willing to spend time getting fractal mastery. It doesn’t require actual fractals; I think it’s only 1 central tyria point.

Waste to have too many character slots?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

ArchonWing.9480

I have 9, one of each class, and they all have a certain use, though I admit my ranger and warrior don’t see much action. The class I have the most hours on Guardian so thus considered “main” with 2k hours, though I have played 6k hours total.

I don’t think it’s a waste of course. I’ve always liked to check out all the available options and reach at least some degree of understanding on it. Otherwise, the game feels incomplete without it.

But even if you don’t, if you do anything that isn’t solo content then it helps to be knowledgeable towards classes other people will use so you can properly interact with them and do combos and such. This is especially true if you do WvW or PvP.

There’s also achievements associated with individual classes as well, including maxing out the respective elite specs and a specialization collection.

As for repeats of the same class, I’ve never seen a need for it, but some people dislike having to swap weapons/builds, and thus this can help to have superspecalized characters too. Being able to provide any role to a group is naturally going to increase your value. It also helps soften the effects of any nerf hammers, because you can switch to other options while stuff gets “fixed”

And of course, there’s also different race/gender combos that look and sound different.

Finally, some people actually just like leveling.

I think the game plays completely differently based on the above choices so I don’t think it’s a waste.

Did you watch that video? Does that look like a skill that is working properly? Same input, different result ~50% of the time?

It’s clearly bugged. I have had it fail in combat, gone back and reviewed the video and found that it doesn’t go off consistently. Sometimes it’s slower, so you basically have to wait 1s before you blast it. That turns our 0.75s heal into a 1s heal.

Min maxing is some people’s idea of fun. Doing something better is worth it for its own sake.

If you think about it, why would someone play something to not have fun? This is not an esports. Whatever they are doing must be considered fun for them unless they are compulsive gamers or people who are still in denial that they bought a game they never enjoyed or no longer do.

I noticed that while running with swiftness and dropping the turret, sometimes you’re out of the area before you can even detonate in the water field.

Hmm, speed is reduced by 33% while in combat so that shouldn’t be a problem. I can do a flame blast + jumpshot combo finisher in the water field while running straight forward in combat with swiftness.

Yea, you don’t actually have to be that close to the turret for it to work. Granted I don’t actually use swiftness but mecha legs but I don’t think there’s that big of a difference.

https://youtu.be/NTFPulWuZoo
I spend a few minutes casting it off cooldown.

I did screw up blasting into a lightning field once…. And yea, had there been more hazardous conditions there would be a greater chance of screwing up but that applies to everything. I didn’t really see a difference while playing normally. But then again you’re probably not needing to heal every 20 seconds either.

On the other hand, it would seem this skill does seem a bit unnecessarily punishing since screwing up means your heal skill is much worse. There are a few conditional healing skills out there, but they’re generally revolving around dealing/absorbing damage which is far more reliable typically.

Yeahhhh AMD hasn’t cut it in the mobile market it seems.

Anyhow, I was using this for a baseline: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834315712 ($649, with an i7-7500u and a 940mx). Yea it says on sale, but it’s gone on sale after it expired so….

It also comes with both an SSD and a HD, which I found rare at this price range though since you already have an SSD on hand this is somewhat muted.

There’s also the slower i5 one for 479: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834315713&ignorebbr=1&nm_mc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-PC&cm_mmc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-PC-_-pla-_-Notebooks-_-N82E16834315713&gclid=CI-WubO3_dMCFRBEfgodXQ4F3A&gclsrc=aw.ds

This would probably do just as well as the i7-6500u with integrated.

I’ve heard good things about sager; pricey but they use the quality stuff. A 7700hq would definitely beat the 7500u ones. Can’t seem to find one that low of a price, so definitely want to see the link.

Cleansing Burst no 15 sec CD?

in Engineer

Posted by: ArchonWing.9480

ArchonWing.9480

After the Tuesday changes, Cleansing Burst only seems to activate once on turret deployment and never again. Is anyone else experiencing the same issue? If so, I feel heal turret should be reverted back to its old functionality. I don’t always want to waist my condition removal on turret deployment (if I have no conditions on me).

Base condi removal, imo, should come from the alchemy line (HGH ftw), not your healing turret. Like most classes/builds over time, you get nerfed and you must adapt. Either change your traits or utilities or sigil/runes. So many engis are so attached to healing turret, its kinda sad, especially where there are possibly better options based on your playstyles.

We only use healing turret because we only have one other choice. And that got batted in the kneecaps. Which pretty much happened to any other heal that was situationaly useful.

And I’m pretty sure everyone that’s played this class is pretty familiar with alchemy, most likely being forced into using it for the last…. 4 years?

You shouldn’t be blowing up the turret right away. That was never a thing. You always had to wait for the sprinkler!

Having to wait for the overcharge is not the issue, but the possibility of the turret detonating before the overcharge. The heal skill and the detonation are the same keybind now and the delay is a little too short to prevent this (this problem didn’t exist before).

I have made a Video wherein I keep my finger on the Heal button with the result that 13 out of 24 times the detonation comes before the overcharge making you end up with a lousy 2520 heal + 853 regeneration (0 heal power). So whenever you keep your button pressed in too long, try to detonate too early or spam the button too much there is a significant chance that this will happen to you. Most of the time everything is gonna be fine if you try not to do the 3 things I just mentioned but eventually its gonna happen to everyone and its gonna suck.

I can’t really say it’s been an issue for me for the past 2 days. This doesn’t mean I’ve never screwed up before, but it wasn’t something I couldn’t prevent. For some reason I’ve never gotten used to holding down buttons though. Usually just bang the keyboard and hope stuff happens.

I think the bigger issue here is that Anet decided that turrets were so worthless that they have no use besides being blown up, that they just went with it. In this case, I don’t like being unable to decide when the condition clear occurs. Against condi heavy foes, you’re often just better up picking it up once the condi clear happens.

Ascended Armor Question

Basically this tactic of stat swapping was only a thing at the start of HoT when people didn’t have loads of airship oil, leyline sparks, and that auric basin thing. It’s also possible they don’t have karma for obsidian shards. Of course, it still applies if you don’t want to do HoT maps much, especially if you don’t like one or more of them. Otherwise, crafting them conventionally is more beneficial. Also, I’m of the opinion that dragging out the crafting a bit also allows for more of a chance that you may get an ascended piece to drop— not to be relied upon but there’s also that factor.

New to WvW, but I still hate it

ArchonWing.9480

It’s a good idea to build another set for WvW. Gear with more vitality such as valkyrie or marauder (but they are sort of expensive; some soldiers gear may be needed) + zerker may be a better combo. With 16k health, I sometimes get close to being one shot; it’s the nature of power creep and anet has not balanced for this scenario at all.

If you are unstealthing, it may either be due to the reveal effect, but there’s also a chance you’re using something that deals damage as well.

Go for acro—-> trickery —--> DD and take unhindered combatant/hard to catch with shortbow and a weapon of your choice. Take signet of agility— this skill breaks stun and clears condi, both of which will save you. This will allow you to break away from mostly everything.

Also run off to the side when you try to escape. If you’re just running in a straight line away from them, it’s not too hard to know where you are.

The thing is, you can miss now. If you hit it in the few ms after the turret goes down, but before the burst goes off (shouldn’t even exist because the overcharge is supposed to be instant), you can blow the turret and get no overcharge field.

Pre-patch, as long as you had tapped again for the overcharge, you were free to blast the turret because you knew 100% that the overcharge had gone off. Now we’re stuck waiting awkwardly for the turret to do it automatically. Sometimes it’s instant. Sometimes it’s a bit late and you miss 2/3 of your heal + condi cleanse.

See examples: https://youtu.be/-KNeJwMlYwk

You shouldn’t be able to fail 2/3 of your heal because you pressed the detonate inside a ~50ms window. That’s a bug.

You shouldn’t be blowing up the turret right away. That was never a thing. You always had to wait for the sprinkler!

The video here has the player spamming the heal button. That’s just a case of motor memory playing tricks because the input would be equivalent of hitting f1 before the cleansing burst. I can tell because f1 is hit right afterwards.

Wut, it’s easier to use now.

All you have to do is listen for the sprinkler sound and hit it again. Previously you had to hit heal twice and then hit f1. You don’t even have to hit f1 anymore.

I got it wrong the first time I tried, and that was it. I have more trouble accidentially using the toolbelt than this. Though I always did.

It’ll definitely work if you want to turn down all settings and run at 30 fps but HoT maps can be an issue. It’ll also be better than what you have.

However, I’m wondering how much you are looking to spend. A lot of laptops that come with that processor come with a graphics card of some kind, such as a 940mx which isn’t very good but much better than integrated, and in some cases you might want to look for a slightly slower i5-7200u/6200uprocessor with a gpu as well. And a lot of times these things aren’t even that much more expensive.

The thing is despite the i7 designation, the 7500u is still a dual core; same goes with the cheaper i5-7200u. So it’s actually not that much better. The only difference is 2.7 vs 2.5 ghz. Also processors that end in U are low-power, generally gaming CPUs are labeled HQ, so keep that in mind, and don’t just aim for “i7”

The i5-7300/6300hq processors are quad cores, and thus would be stronger than the i7u. They do take more power and aren’t found in lighter laptops though.

Perhaps link to the laptop you intend to buy?

Difference being the open world HP’s are needed to unlock elite specializations which can be directly used in WvW whereas legendary weapons are more towards optional content.

News flash: Elite specs are not required content.

Also, you’re conveniently ignoring the fact that if a person plays WvW as much as some claim to here, they are going to have more than enough proof of heroics to allow them to just walk into any zone in Central Tyria, double click for a few seconds, and instantly have every HP in the zone done. No need to take part in any of the temple events or even mess around trying to find a map where the temples are open.
Other than the renown hearts, Hero Points are the second most tedious part of world completion, and dedicated WvW players get to just click their way through it.

A lot of useful builds require them and they’re a part of active playing whereas legendary weapons are primarily for their visuals. You’re also forgetting the time it takes to unlock the necessary HP’s that could be spent playing WvW. This is different from the gift of battle that was created around WvW participation.

If you’re worried about how long it takes to double click your mouse 189times (you don’t have to be in each zone to unlock the various Central Tyrian hero points), you must dread having to sort through loot.
Just because a build that someone else recommends an elite spec, doesn’t mean it’s required. Currently two of the top rated WvW builds on MetaBattle are vanilla Guardian.

Oh wow Two builds on one class out of 9 classes….. and again Legendaries are luxury convenience item nothing more. And WvW already had access to HPs before HoT was even a thought…. so……..

Yep, rare exotic/ascended weapons and armor are optional as well. Not sure how far you’d get without them.

The difference is of course, what is lost when not having these things; ie not having armor, specializations against legendarily.

Oh no Ascended has the same stat totals as Legendaries you don’t need them for anything

That’s my point. Not having an elite spec has much higher chance of impacting things as opposed to not having a legendary. So specializations are less optional than legendaries, even if not mandatory from an absolute sense.

Of course one will point at the 1060 3 gb which does limit its potential though in reality it is more due to the rx 470 and more so 570 thst are much better choices. It is aloso a weaker card which is lame that people still try to pass it off with 1060 but no ram designation.

To be fair though, it does seem like, the 480 and 580 will continue to pull ahead. At the end of the day though you will probably be better off thinking about which brand has the best support as well as which card looks better.

You can run around and kill guards and get credit when it gets captured eventually.

Also go to the desert borderlands. Chances are you won’t actually see other players. Run stealth and mobility— you don’t need a zerg to build up participation. Zergs are better for farming wxp and getting the participation level, but not really needed.

I don’t know if having 50 man blob on outnumbered maps with worlds that have very little coverage at this time is actually dominating. There might be another word or words that would fit better….

Nah 50 blob isn’t good enough. You’ll pop outnumbered with it.

At 42k karma for a single piece , I think it’s generally a better idea to just farm gold though if you have the karma, then you can definitely buy it. Note you can’t salvage karma armor so any runes or whatever are lost unless you use a upgrade extractor which you shouldn’t.

The weapon is the most important component. Focus on getting a good exotic weapon with decent sigils in it. Then you want to have at least rare trinkets. Armor/backpiece is lower priority though you want to make sure you have some kind of upgrade slotted into them. Chest > legs > head= boots > gloves > shoulders

Same logic applies to ascended but that can wait.
Focus on doing dailies whenever possible (2g) and world bosses. Get these armors: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Named_armor
Level 78 ones are also fine

Try to avoid spending too much on trinkets as you can get ascended trinkets from laurels.

A relatively inexpensive way to get a backpiece is through the crafter backpacks which can give an exotic level backpack (but better than regular exotics)

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Crafter%27s_backpack

You would have to level to 400 to get the exotic version; I’d go with chef since it’s fairly easy to level: http://gw2crafts.net/cooking.html

Finally, certain inexpensive consumables can also help bridge the gap and makes things easier. For what amounts to the same cost as a single WP use every 30 minutes, chances are you will match fully geared 80s as many don’t bother with food.

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Scoop_of_Mintberry_Swirl_Ice_Cream
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Peppermint_Oil (Unnecessary for easy content, but nice to have if you run into problems.)

Both foods also boost karma.

I made this a while back— this would be a budget level 78 exotic build for fresh 80s— Prices have fluctuated a bit but it should be around the same: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1LhXRuxjD5L0CFfLmx_e_lPyrIl5_dC6DOy5sa2Xkz40/edit?usp=sharing

Also it’s for medium classes, but it should be cheaper for light/heavy; naturally you will need to get the appropriate gear.

‘Currently it is reasonable to say that 10-15% difference in worse case scenarios (pure exotic vs ascended) is not enough to really affect performance for your player of average skill, especially not in anything that’s not raids or high fractal’

Bear in mind this goes 2 ways, even a 5% differential is absolutely massive because skilled players get this bonus too. for e.g 5% in a tightly tuned raid, or pvp makes that % essential, where players are equally skilled, the player with 5% will win most of the time.

I left out raids because of that. But I’m not sure if 5% faster raid completions is a big deal unless you’re out to sort out world records, and we’re talking about hardcore stuff now. Of course, it’d be hard to imagine a frequent raider being unable to obtain at least all ascended weapons/trinkets at least. Then it’s not even 5%

PvP doesn’t use gear tiers, so that point is largely moot. In WvW, it may make a difference, but this tends to be dampened as numbers increase, especially with the large amounts of overhealing and overkill.

In any case 1 more hit out of 20 is less likely to matter, than 1 more hit out of 4-5 which would happen if a new gear tier occured.

The 580 is generally a better choice unless you can get a 1060 for cheaper or power is a concern. It seems to depend on what games you play.

Also you can use msi afterburner with AMD cards and it’s not like MSI doesn’t sell AMD cards so not sure what’s that about…. It doesn’t even have to be MSI.

Computer Shuts Down

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: ArchonWing.9480

ArchonWing.9480

These problems are with the computer itself. No game, regardless of how weak your hardware is or how laggy it makes it, should ever knock your computer out. Blue screen, yes, but if it flat out turns off then there’s other issues. This is doubly true if your computer is new; that’s definitely something to contact the company over.

Well actually there is one exception I recall. Back then, Starcraft II had an issue once with uncapped fps, which would burn graphics cards but that was mostly Nvidia’s fault with defective drivers and already hot cards as good design and drivers would throttle the cards once it got too hot. That’s probably not the case here, but you could always cap the fps here to 60 or even 30. That being said, it might be a good idea to hold back on updating drivers until enough people have tested the waters. Contrary to popular wisdom, it may not always be the best idea to always update to the newest drivers.

I’ve only had a computer turn off on me once while gaming, and that’s when the power supply exploded. Like literally boom with sparks everywhere. I’ve also run on 2gb on various clunkers until 2016, so I will just flat out state that Gw2 will never blow your computer up.

If other games still work, it may just be because Gw2 puts a heavier load on the CPU, that tends to place the problem on heat though it may also be a problem with the power. Looking at this thread, I see some pretty hefty components. In the case of a laptop, maybe the battery has issues.

If you have Windows 10 Creator’s Update, (That installed automatically for me last night ;;), and use Afterburner, make sure you update these programs, both Afterburner and Rivatuner, or every game is going to crash with it.

Rivatuner in particular needs version 7 http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/rtss-rivatuner-statistics-server-download.html As it is in beta, it doesn’t get found when checking for updates.

There’s no way to tell if a group was in the minority or marginal or whatever beyond anecdotes, especially based on forum posts. All we know is that said complaints existed, and the game designers have metrics and contact with various streamers or whatnot that we don’t have access to. In any case, regardless of how marginal that group was, apparently they were important enough to address.

But there is a difference between the self-contained grind of fractals with viable alternatives and entirely new gear tiers passed out on a regular basis. The later imposes itself off on all players. Currently it is reasonable to say that 10-15% difference in worse case scenarios (pure exotic vs ascended) is not enough to really affect performance for your player of average skill, especially not in anything that’s not raids or high fractals. In the real world, the difference is significantly smaller due to the large access to ascended trinkets and most of the crafting cost lopsided towards the final few percent in armor.

Introducing new tiers would increase this gap, and over time it would be hard to deny that it would make a major difference. The gap between exotic and the new gear tier, or even worse, the gap between subexotics that new 80s are wearing will be very noticeable. A 20-30% gap or greater effectively makes the grind mandatory. This is basically like 25 stacks of might.

With the new legendary armors, there really is no reason to require a tier that requires more time than ascended. And furthermore, in general, this attitude for more gear tiers is pve-centric. Making people in WvW grind for more gear would probably have a negative impact, as most reward content is in pve and hard to balance between it.

Terrible FPS after latest content release

in Account & Technical Support

The cpu usage is normal. The game’s just not capable of using any more. Your CPU is 4 cores/8 threads, and Gw2 really only uses 3 threads, and not all the time. So 27% cpu usage is pretty normal. 50% would be using all your cores. But you should be running at 60 fps mostly everywhere (assuming 1080p, not sure about higher resolution)

Except exotics being the ceiling was not really a thing for long. Ascended was introduced within a few months of release. It was due to complaints that exotic was too easy

The complains were about lack of content, not about exotic gear being too easy. It’s just that Anet didn’t have any content to give, so they panicked and attempted to “do something quick”.

They go hand and hand; the idea of reaching 80 and gearing up went really fast, and then that results in lack of stuff to do. Enter fractals, where ascended was introduced, as well as the self contained progression system that means it was largely optional. In a few more months, ascended jewelry would be given via laurels, to seal the deal.

I completely disagree that it was a panic. It was, in fact, rather well designed.

and also suggested that ascended was planned already but they didn’t have the time to implement it.

They suggested it, sure, but somewhere around HoT reveal they admitted that it wasn’t actually true. In this version they introduced them because people got exotics earlier than expected. Which might have been a result of them having different expectations when they’ve been developing the game.

Shortly after first introducing ascended they have been talking about continuing on the path of “low curve item progression” (for example we do know they planned stronger stat infusions, as well as different types of agony-like effects for other parts of the game) but all of those ideas were abandoned later, because (surprise surprise), it turned out that the majority of players didn’t actually like them at all.

And we haven’t seen a new gear tier since…. Details, aside, I don’t see a need, nor do I see a trend suggesting otherwise.
