Feedback - 400 Hero Points per Elite spec

People complaining about how it was too easy to get to level 80 with exotic gear and leaving the game cuz no end game is the reason we are here now. Grindy ascended gear, grindy elite spec, grindy mastery system, grindy guild halls. All in the name of progression. Yet somehow many of us were playing the game for 3 years and spending the vast majority of that time not leveling up something. Just doing what we enjoy.

I definitely agree. Part of what made Gw2 great was that it was getting away from banal and ultimately meaningless grindy progression. Before Gw2, I just accepted it as sort of a norm and realized how archaic these concepts are. An open ended approach was so much better. They even had pvp where they just normalized everything and to hell with gearing. Personally, I wouldn’t mind if they removed levels and strictly used gear just for variety but I understand that could cause issues.

Of course, some people couldn’t handle that and wanted to be special snowflakes yet lacked the imagination to approach open-ended progression thus needing developers to change the game so their hands would be held or otherwise the game exists only as a way to chase shinies. Honestly, Anet was spot on with the Skritt. And even as we speak, there is no end to the threads demanding Anet change the game to cater to their needs while removing other options. “omg people are speedrunning in zerker gear and making more gold than me! Get rid of Zerker!” while completely ignoring the impact it had in other modes. And hey, look a ferocity nerf for pve that gets forced upon WvW! WvW was impacted because some bads were kitten about stuff nobody cares like finishing a dungeon 2 minutes faster beyond a few bruised egos.

I’ll be frank. I think if we took every suggestion that existed, then this would be a much worse game than it is now. We have our progression now; and it’s every bit of what I expected. Amusing to poke at, annoying to live with. Ascended gear was the first step, and it was sorta alright because it was intended to be there anyways, but I don’t think this will see any end.

The problem is it seems like is that any kind of progression is never enough and the demand for treadmills increases, and well… everyone else gets dragged along. That doesn’t mean I won’t follow along, but I just question the point.

That’s just my penny though.

Very well written. Have to quote again to improve its visibility.

Well, not to toot my own horn, but I tried to expand on it in the other thread. Hope some of you may agree with it: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/hot/elite-specializations-how-many-hero-points/5636594

One thing I don’t appreciate is some of the posters being accused of not wanting to “work” and “play the game”, especially when it’s defining “the game” as pve.

The game isn’t just about pve. Hey, let’s make it so that to unlock it, you have to do PvP, WvW, and PvE on every single character. What? You wanted stuff handed to you? Afraid of the challenge?

How many people were complaining about having to do WvW for map completion? And hell, I agreed with not forcing PvE’rs to WvW, because you know I had some degree of respect for their playstyle; unlike a lot of posts in this thread or forum that can’t even seem to think of anyone approaching the game differently. I mean, just look at how many random things people consider to be “exploits”. “Stacking in a dungeon is an exploit, because that’s not how I do it!” “Maize Balm farming is an exploit, remove it!”; hell I despise the later concept, but I don’t care enough to comment on it that much.

I certainly didn’t appreciate pve elitists condescending to them, especially when the difference was often the ability to follow a tag and blob down some enemy keep or pay gems to transfer to a stacked server. Sorry, I’m sure I’m not the only WvW’er that rolls their eyes when people tell their cute stories of getting to that Vista in Overlook being such a difficult odyssey. Give me a break. And hey, Anet saw the light there. And they thought of a WvW alternative too, so I’ll definitely credit them with that.

But it’s clear some elitists that think that grinding away in their form of progression is the only way worth playing in the game, and everyone else is entitled and spoiled when arguing that anyone who regularly plays WvW to be entitled to any degree is a horrific joke. Oh, and by the way, hopefully some of you discontent folks will raise a glass for this, but this aint just update content— we paid for this so it isn’t a charity case either.

And as I’ve said before, attacking someone personally, because they don’t want conform to your kitten gamer code is not really relevant to the discussion. I mean please, it’s not a high horse one is riding; we don’t have mounts in this game.

For everyone complaining, you must have never played through an expansion before. In Word of Warcraft, for example, an expansion entails exploring new content in order to gain levels to achieve level cap, followed by grinding quests, dungeons, etc. to reach a high enough item level to enter heroic dungeons, raids, etc. Additionally, when new classes were introduced, they did not start at the max level cap of the previous version of the game.

In any event, those who have a character with 100% map completion will likely have enough hero points to unlock the majority of traits and utilities, if not all of them. For those making a revenant, it should be obvious that as a new character it needs to be played through from the beginning. The elite specialization, like masteries, is part of the horizontal progression of your character and requires playing the game to achieve.

Going back to WOW, all players have to explore the new content before resuming their preferred game mode of PvE or PvP. Be thankful that GW2 allows you the ability to gain hero points through WvW, tomes of knowledge in sPvP.

There’s a good reason why I never bothered with WoW.

Unless I am mistaken just to unlock half of the training line, we need 212 hero points?

It’s 400 points total to unlock everything in an elite spec training line – I just can’t remember off hand how many points folks have currently if they have done all the existing ones, but it’s right around 200. The rest you’ll need to earn in jungle to unlock the deeper skills/traits/etc. in the training line.

You only need 60 hero points to begin using your elite spec, the points you spend after that continue to unlock more skills, traits, skins, etc.

Again, hero challenges are worth 10 points each in the jungle. So no you don’t need to go do 200-400 jungle challenges.

A Portrait of the Player as a WvW Regular

- Two accounts (actually I have three but only purchased HoT for these two).
- Twelve level 80s
- Two above 60 hero points
- Only one with 100% map completion
- 75% of toons under 20% map completion
- 5904 combined total gaming hours
- No Legendary
- No full sets of ascended gear
- Purchaser of gems with real cash
- 1892 combined WXP rank (677 and 1215 respectively)

How can you help me? Can I hire you to get the hero points for my toons?

lol, so what do i have?

  • No characters with map completion (89% is the highest)
  • 8 Level 80s
  • 4 with above 60 hero points, but only 2 above 80
  • 37.5% under 20% completion
  • 3560 Hours
  • No legendary
  • 1 full set of ascended gear (Guardian), could finish a 2nd set if I wanted (Engineer missing just 2 armor pieces)
  • I actually just get my gems via gold (pro karma trainer)
  • WvW Rank 1803

Well, not too far off….

I like Stormbluff Isle (in Bloodtide coast) It’s good for foraging, lumber, and also has some water sections that aren’t annoying. It’s generally a peaceful part in the south though sometimes the Inquest will present a hilariously ineffective threat.

Go up North and find that silly fisherman that gets chewed up by a Drake daily. There’s also a convenient pack of raptors good for poultry meat. Finally, if you’re into karma to linen, you could head west.

Bloodtide coast remains a favorite, namely because I remember using it to get daily dodger from the slimes in the days of old. As a side note, I just like zones on the borders of chaos since just further south you’ll meet up with Teq and the Risen, but it seems peaceful here until the risen slowly appear as you head south. It’s pretty well designed if you ask me. For all of Gw2’s lackluster storytelling, I think the best storytelling is made in the atmosphere in the world itself and props to the people that did that because these zones have an idendity. Well, if you give a kitten about stuff like that and not just about bonking the next red name you see, hoping it’ll drop something shiny; in that case you should ignore this post and just mutter “how pretentious” and move on. But in any case, I come back to this zone more often than I should from an objective point of view, and I never do Triple Wurm either.

Plus pirates. Everything is better with pirates.

how do I know if I'm eligible for extra slot

I’m actually not sure where I bought Gw2 from (pre-purchased it before release), but all I had to do was pre-prechase the expansion on this site, log in to this very site, and apply the code they send to email. You must apply the code before release, but it really depends on how badly you want an extra character slot. Remember, that you can still play the game without the expansion if you do not care about the new content or specializations.

Finally, the slot does not appear immediately, there appears to be a delay of a few days.

Is it just me or this zone is designed to make you extra miserable?

I was trying to grab a hero point here, and it’s at a jumping puzzle! It wasn’t that hard but putting a vista and a hero point behind all of this (and enemies constantly attacking you) in a low level zone isn’t cool, especially on how the vista is designed so you might miss the jump and have to do it all over again. I couldn’t imagine doing this in my older days.

There are three jumping puzzles in diessa, but only one actually has a reward chest. the other ones either have a vista & hero point or just a rich node (silver no less, bleh)

Now i like JPs and do them for their own sake whenever i’m nearby but i don’t quite see the virtue in forcing you to do them for map completion (another thing i do for fun, regardless of rewards)

There’s more for map completion? Well, time to get to work >.>

Breach Wall Blitz (the one you speak of) and Vizier’s Tower are the only JPs with a VP and HP at the end that I can recall off the top of my head.

As to the heart in question, something needs to be done so it can be completed without sitting and waiting for 10 minutes. As it is, I just go back to the character select screen and do something else hoping that I’ll be in a different instance of the map when I come back.

There’s also Tribulation Rift Scaffolding and that one was pretty miserable. Vizier’s Tower at least has the excuse of being in a late zone and thus it’s more reasonable to expect it to be harder; plus it’s not that hard— weirdly enough there’s a vista to the east that I found harder to get despite not being labeled a JP. =p

Of course, my memories are colored because I did them as a beginner 3 years ago and had trouble merely moving around. I also would have not disabled double tap to dodge which had cost me too many things then I care to admit before turning it off for good.

This is just flat out terrible. Core gameplay should NOT be gated behind a grind. Some of us play 9+ characters. You want to shut cosmetics behind grinds? You want to shut toys and vanity items behind grinds? You want to shut proportionate rewards behind grinds? Sure. Cool.
But it’s just plain bad design to shut core gameplay for the expansion specs out behind a long grind.

If you can unlock all the traits and skills in short order, that’s fine. It’s ok for the special skins to then take another 200+ points to unlock. But people are going to despise running around for the first week with a half-finished traitline and missing abilities.

Feeling forced to dash off into the jungle and skip content and rush hero points so I can fill out my trait line is going to directly reduce my desire to play GW2. When I think “I feel like playing my Mesmer now that Chronomancer is available” and then remember I need 100+ more points to unlock Chronomancer abilities and traits and the only way to get those points is to grind WvW or to skip jungle content in favor of focusing on hero challenges, I may well just not bother. Because this issue won’t just come up for Chronomancer. It’ll come up for Reaper, and Daredevil, and Berserker, and Tempest. It’ll come up for every single spec.

This is an incredibly alt-unfriendly design decision.

Considering the number of people who have told me I am a terrible forum specialist because I disagree with ANet’s choice to make elite specializations so expensive, I am just going to quote, +1, and emphasize this post here. This post perfectly reflects how I feel in the matter.

Oh boy, I must be worse xD

Some folks around here are purporting a false dichotomy about being wanting to be handed everything and doing whatever the plan is. I don’t think it works that way. Personally, I wouldn’t mind getting 1000 points if it meant I would unlock all elite specs for all classes currently. If anything, I’d be more willing to accept this “challenge” over someone that just needs to grind out 400 over a single character and ignore 88% of the choices in this game.

Challenge is cool. Repetition, not so much. Nor is being made available a brand new way to play a class, expanding on the concept, and not being able to use it for said content unless you completed said content. This is like if I told you there was an enemy that was hard to beat unless you used a new technique that you learned by beating the stage. Actually, there’s some value to such a concept, but I think it should be used sparingly.

As played, I have to play as base Engineer and base (sigh…) Ranger and necro in the new content because my main (Guardian) would be wasting time earning points towards a spec that is no good anyways. I will admit there’s a WvW workaround which is fine, but still disappointing. Maybe only other guardian mains can understand this.

Well, what do you like? I would suggest going to Dry Top and Silverwastes (both are accessed via Brisbane Wildlands) because HoT will have a number of zones to check out too.

A new character is a good idea too as you will have gotten birthday gifts that can instantly level a character to 20, as well as tomes of knowledge gotten from simply logging in. If you did nothing but login, you can get a free level 80 every 8 months (6 if you use a scroll). In reality, it goes even faster if you actually play the character. Personally, I think trying out new characters gives a lot more variety to the game.

Traits have completely changed too, so you’ll probably want to get those set up.

All the people calling this setup “grinding” I really don’t understand.

It isn’t as if you’re doing the same hero challenges over and over. You’re running around HoT maps, doing events, hitting hero challenges and mastry point thingies. This is exactly the same as all the endgame maps in the core game, orr to silverwatses, just with different icons on the vistas.

It is literally the same exploration-centric advancement model as the core game with the exact same model. There are more hero challenges than you actually need points, so you can skip the ones that are too hard/boring/etc.

Were you all the same people complaining there wouldn’t be anything to do in the HoT maps except grind events for mastry xp as well?

They even threw WvW a pretty giant bone here, and honestly the only “grind” in the system is there for the people who go out of their way to avoid the intended advancement paths through either naturally playing WvW or exploring the HoT maps and jump on the sure-to-be-formed EOTM “lets ruin EOTM by using it to farm” train that people who want WvW stuff without actually playing WvW set up already anyway.

Someone explain to me how this is a grind. It looks like fun progression designed to get you moving around the maps, just like leveling in core.

Your question/statement at the end has been answered multiple times.

You are grinding it over and over again, If you want to get elite specs on multiple characters. You are grinding it if you want it quickly. It’s disincentive to sit back and enjoy the content, if you want the elite specs.

Again explain to me how this is different than leveling.

Or gearing alts.

Is the problem that you’re actually expected to play characters to advance them?

If you don’t like playing those characters, why do you care about their elite specs?

I just don’t understand it.

The game does allow you to largely bypass the leveling process via tomes, and before that there was crafting. Gearing alts can just be done with gold, something that can be obtained anywhere in game. You can approach either issue with a myriad of ways.

It’s a bit different. You can have an 80 geared in exotics or even ascended with minimal interaction. I would suspect many of us have that in mind to have an instant 80 Rev.

Getting into WvW - how is it done?

Deleting characters would be the best as you don’t lose too much on lowbies, however, you have 5 characters and I imagine deleting them would basically mean starting over.

If you don’t want to do that, I would suggest logging in and receiving the daily rewards; those come with experience tomes that will speed up your progression, and get laurels at the end of the daily reward track. You can buy t6 crafting materials, sell em, and receive the gold you need to get setup.

In the meantime, go to EOTM. It will provide you with WXP, xp, karma, and gold as well as learning the very basics like handling supply and siege. Most importantly, you’ll be able to have a geared level 80 before you can really enjoy WvW. This will also allow you to amass some gold should you decide to move. Gem prices are quite high right now, so don’t rush.

Make OS part of EotM

in WvW

Posted by: ArchonWing.9480

ArchonWing.9480

OS is still used for the Arena every now and then though. With it being megaserver, that is gone.

But then again we are no longer really crowded on normal maps, even in high tier.

I don’t understand how the arena use would be gone with a EOTM style megaserver. The 3 servers involved will still be able to meet each other, because EOTM is based on color. It would just allow more people to be fought, but without the distractions of the EOTM map.

Obviously maps being full could be an issue, but ferrying to new instances could overcome that. Might even be possible to have cross server LFG fights or something.

I have a hard time feeling sorry for people who just don’t pay attention. “Unique” means “one of a kind”. If people have questions about what that means, logic dictates finding out before buying.

To the original poster, I suggest just sucking it up. You made a mistake, and that mistake was preventable. Learn from it and grow.

Or don’t. Whatever. I’m not your parole officer. -Sid

You don’t feel any empathy for OP, yet decided to grace us with this “wisdom”; so OP made a mistake, no point in kicking OP when they’re down. It’s pretty bad wisdom too, since support has been known to rectify this.

If you’re going to play semantics, than “unique” would imply you couldn’t buy a second one. Having a duplicate isn’t very unique.

Yes, yes, and instead of simply shaking your head and moving on, you did the same thing I did. Does that make us twinsies now?

It does. That is my point. It doesn’t add very much does it?

Had the original poster just manned up and accepted they made an avoidable mistake, there would have been nothing upon which to comment.

Hey, sometimes discussing a problem comes up with a solution, which is much more substantial than talking about OP’s mentality towards life. Like infusing one of the rings, as was suggested above.

(Ever consider the reason you can buy more than one unique item is because people have more than one character? Just curious.)

Yah, but then we’re past definition, and into a playability issue here, aren’t we?

400 wouldn’t be a bad idea if one had to do it once. But, it would seem like people with alts were not taken into consideration. I’m not even talking like about having 20 alts; just one of each class. It’s kind of like exploring the map in general. It’s fun the first time or so, but when you can do it with your eyes closed because it’s the 9th time, that’s another story.

Sure, we shouldn’t have everything immediately. Sure, elite specs aren’t mandatory. However, when one of the draws of the expansion is all these elite specs, we’ve been severely gated if we want to see a lot the new class mechanics. This is especially true when one’s most frequently played characters (and thus have more points) have terrible elite specs I don’t want to see, such as the Dragonhunter, but that’s an issue for another day.

Nobody ever said it was a big issue, but it was something that saw change for dubious reasons.

Also, these so called “awesome ranks” have some degree of relevance when getting hero points now.

Engineer builds for zergs HoT

I play in t3 wvw and thus it is meant for that sort of blobbing but it was also secretly tested in a t1 zerg environment.

Unfortunately, I’ve not found any good backline builds. The only thing I thought of was throw mine and that’s just really unreliable and relies on them being asleep. Mortar hits way too unreliably and is used for the water field. Reflects negate you and thus you are horrifically outclassed by eles and necros.

The key here is a few things

  • Rocket boots get you out and in of trouble. I found it too easy to get whatever’d and stuck, and thus destroyed so Rocket Boots solves all of that.
  • Elixir Gun is a viable alternative to rocket boots. You become more support based. Do not use Elixir Gun 5 when your group restacks, or people will get angry when you put a light field out. On the move is a good place to try it.
  • Do not fire FT 1 in their frontline. You will regret it. Use FT 2 and orbital strike. If you are able to reach their casters, just fire whatever.
  • Self Regulating Defenses is great for a number of things, like preventing yourself from dying to retaliation. There is one problem with this and elixir S, and that is condis beyond applied as you lose control to all skills when it procs. Fortunately, there is enough -condi and any kind of competent cleanse from allies renders this only a small issue.
  • HGH synergies with2 of the alchemy minors and self regulating defense so that is swell.
  • You can also ditch the actual Elixir S. I don’t know what exactly, but I prefer it having a stunbreak. (eg Elixir Gun, Elixir U, Super Speed)
  • Recently, I’ve been messing with Elixir X. It’s pretty funny when you get rampage, tornado not so much. Toss Elixir X is great for trolling but I think Mortar is better overall.
  • Rocket Boots + Overcharge Healing Turret, blast it again is pretty epic.
  • Use Regenerating Mist right before you engage, and then use it whenever.
  • Do not randomly fire off Orbital Strike. It’s too telegraphed, so you want to basically use it when you’re practically in their face.
  • Sneak in rifle attacks in whenever possible. I’m talking literally switching to rifle just to use skills 2 or 3 and then back again. If you’re not being pressured and in range , the AA is more effective than mortar.
  • Neither Bunker Down nor Medical Dispersion Field is really that hot for Inventions GM, try either and see what works. I remain skeptical of the later, even after the buff.
  • Healing turret should be used pretty aggressively whenever possible. Pick it up if you need more condi clear, blast it if you need heals. Zergplay tends to favor the blast, but maybe your eles and warriors suck.
  • I use saffron bread, because I don’t feel like using more expensive food. Lemongrass/Poultry Leek are the typical favorites. If you want to be really dirt cheap, you might want to look into roasted lotus root/roasted parsnip for -40%/-36% stun duration which is sorta humorous when used, if anything because you can run through almost anything. Only do so if you’re broke and your group has excellent cleansing.

Yea, and I feel in practice, this can only encourage people to stay longer with the “K-train Daily” such as tower capturer, but stuff like ruin capturer, it would be pretty discouraging given when you capture ruins in regular play, you’re usually hanging around them quite a bit. What would you do? Capture a ruin and run straight for EOTM? Even if you did that, you’d lose a few minutes already to merely reach the train.

I just can’t see how having such a stringent time limit could make anyone happy for any form of daily. Let’s take gatherer for an example. If you didn’t get any actual materials in the chest and you only got a 15 minute bonus, it could sort of work because you can continue what you were doing— you were looking for gathering nodes, but even this seems to put a rush on otherwise slow paced activity. It’s a daily, not an hourly. I should have all day to do it at my pace.

The thing about dailies is that you can come in and out, doing stuff you wouldn’t do normally while still receiving some small reward; and making things more of a chore and out of people’s control isn’t a good way to entice folks.

I’m not a fan of the auto daily boosters, as the timing has to be pretty coincidental, especially involving the more out of the way dailies.

I would have really liked it if you could choose when to use the booster, as no other daily has ever required you to immediately use the reward.

If they should keep this, then I would suggest more tangible things also be included as well. Otherwise, please just give me 250 wxp or whatnot.

The difference is huge because if you were to earn Hero points in the Open World, you’d need to do it for each of your characters, while in WvW you could potentially use one character to farm them all.

I don’t know why people who play WvW are SO against ANYTHING PvE, I mean I get liking to play against a player controlled target, but me personally, fighting the same servers week after week after week, gets old quick…

I am sure it won’t be over-the-top cost hero-point wise, but it is an elite spec, so I would guess it would be respectably higher than a normal spec unlock, but not so much that people start foaming at the mouth over the cost, lol…

The thing is open world pve, especially non-event related can be pretty boring, especially if you’re trying to collect hero points for multiple characters. I don’t really think it’s just pve, but it’s also sort of bottom of the barrel PvE too. I think some people who just pve also would share the same opinion. It’s not just all pve… I like running around Orr. Just visiting the lower zones for the 20th time, especially when they have dumbed down a lot of the early zones just isn’t fun.

If there’s a abundance of hero points in the new zones or in the new wvw maps, it won’t be a problem. If there’s a way to get hero points on your 4th character without having to do the old content over again, that’s good too.

The only characters I have lots of hero points are my necro and guardian. I don’t play necro that much, and DH….. lol.

Not worth it. 1% per 100 vitality and reducing your damage by getting sentinel (and thus lower power) will just make you heal people a bit more while being useless in all other aspects. Guardian self-heals simply aren’t that strong to begin with.

If you want to take that trait, it’s because you want to be really tanky (talking nomads here) and are pinning up or something. In most other cases either Pure of Voice or the Symbol trait is going to provide more group support over some puny heals that blasting a few water fields would outclass anyways.

I think it’s not fair to take words out of context. I don’t think they were talking about server performance. They might have been talking about the routine and WvW has more or less been running on the same schedule (golem weeks excluded). Also, I really haven’t been lagging or skill lagged in anywhere besides EB— that map DOES seem problematic.

On the other hand, stability HAS been nerfed, so maybe they should reconsider the wording.

WvW and the Heart of Thorns Release

in WvW

ArchonWing.9480

Hello All,

There are a couple of reasons for the change to reset time. One is for the overall quality of the game. The last few years we have been careful to not disrupt the WvW reset time but this has at times made it difficult for our team to address issues during reset day. This change will give our team an extra day of the week that they can use to respond to issues that may occur with WvW or any other area of the game if it is necessary. In the early days we wanted reset to be during a weekday to ensure we had people available to monitor the game at reset time, but at this point we have seen the ongoing stability of World vs. World and resetting on a weekday is no longer necessary.

Another reason is the emergent gameplay that has come from reset. It has become one of the most exciting times for WvW and we would really love for more players to have the opportunity to experience it. We have many more players logging in on Saturday than on Friday which means with this change many more people will be available to experience the rush of claiming objectives for their world during reset.

However, given the concerns posted here we will be moving the Saturday reset to earlier in the day to give most players the majority of the day to enjoy the start of the new match. Immediately after launch the new time will be 11am PDT / 2pm EDT (6 pm UTC) for NA and 11am BST / 12 pm CEST (10 am UTC) for EU. Keep in mind that the following week with the end of Daylight Savings Time / Summer Time the reset times will be pushed even earlier to 10am PST/ 1pm EST and 10am GMT / 11am CET.

Thank you for your feedback. We realize that no time we pick is going to work for everyone but this change is going to benefit even more players overall while at the same time giving us a little more breathing room to improve the quality of the game during the week.

Thanks,
John

Thanks for the response. However, I am not sure if putting it in the morning is a good idea; I sort of think it’s worse than Saturday evening, ankitten ot sure how reading the concerns in the thread before your post could have led to that conclusion.

I am guessing this was based off the concerns that Saturday morning would be a Ktrain but there might be other issues; if your metrics do show high activity in this time slot though, then I have nothing much else to say.

You should honestly be proud! You’ve created such a strong emotional response without doing anything malicious, meaning you’re doing something right.

These pitiful souls are spending time thinking about you and how to defeat this person that wronged them by besting them in a video game, while you probably don’t even know who they are. They’re striving to be better people because as you know if you lose to someone in a video game, your life has no value. Though technically, there is no game mode that consists solely of one person defeating the other in a fight that determines victory or defeat.

Well, no, people like that can’t ever improve because any mistake is pushed onto someone else, instead of like, you know, playing better. Just mail them a packet of salt.

Does condi engi even work anymore?

in Engineer

Posted by: ArchonWing.9480

ArchonWing.9480

IMO, Streamlined kits is sorta redundant with mecha legs. You run a bit faster and it might have been acceptable had you taken inviogorating speed but you can’t and vigor isn’t as good as it once was regardless. I think Lock On would be far superior given all the stealth that is running around especially when mesmers seem to be the natural bane of engi… well anyone really.

I also just don’t think Gadgeteer can be more useful than Adrenal Implant with just one gadget. I mean, you’re getting a faster recharge after you use the skill and build up charges after getting hit several times. It would just seem to me that getting more dodges is better. The thing is Slick Shoes I don’t think is that great in WvW. It’s awesome in PvP when you can spray it over a control point, but when you don’t have much mobility, it’s a lot harder to get it to work and you’re often just taking it for the stun break. I suppose you could get some pulls or shield stuns to combo it, but I’ve never been good with that ever since magnet’s so friggin broken in pathing these days.

In anything exceeding a 1v1 scenario, stun breaks on their own tend to be rather inadequate in getting out alive. Dodges on the other hand, are always golden. Now, stunbreaks are always good to have, but I think focusing a bit too much can be troublesome.

Also, I’d just stick with healing turret really. Overcharge, and pick it up for more cleanses. I’ve never been a fan of that long cast time on bandage.

Anyhow, condi engineer is solid for small scale wvw and from my ancedotes, usually only mesmers, necros, condi rangers, and good d/d eles tend to be big trouble. Certain builds can’t seem to do anything at all to you. Fortunately, the two that can outright kill you are also pretty bad at chasing you. I find it better for small group than solo, but whether it is because I have people carrying me or making up for my lack of disengage or because shield and stuff just works better in a group setting remains a question.

This being said, I actually think the suggestion for Rocket Boots over stunbreak isn’t really a bad idea at all even if I personally wouldn’t do it because mobility is very effective in wvw. Depends on style I guess.

As a side note, I’ve been slowly converting some rabid pieces to dire just because I don’t really know if the crit helps that much. 40% should be good enough—- I think.

Blah, no wonder the red names stay away.

Any single change results in mass protest.

Lack of change results in mass protest.

They can’t win.

Well, this change in seemingly a number of people’s eyes seems to be out of the blue. I don’t think I’ve witnessed anyone complaining about Friday being reset night. Now, some people might have that don’t post on the forums, but I think even in that scenario it could use explanation.

Just because people want change doesn’t mean any change is good. Also, consider people that weren’t complaining before that might have preferred or tolerated the status quo and said nothing about it until now.

You have to admit there’s an awful lot of freaking out that occurs (myself included) to any proposed change in the past three years before it’s even implemented.

I don’t really dispute that, and it’s possible proof that for whatever bad state WvW is in, the status quo still manages to satisfy some folks (that are still playing, like myself).

Still though I’m not really opposed to this change or many others but I’d just like to know what’s going on and why they thought it was a good idea. You have an idea, you should have to create an argument for why it’s a good idea. Now surely it’s not my game to decide what happens and if it’s because it was in their mood to do so, I’d probably settle for that. But explanations are still desired and this will impact people’s schedules so if they’re upset, I think it’s understandable.

I disagree it can only be a negative thing.

I bought Guild Wars 2 and quit shortly afterwards because I thought it was boring. What got me back was Wintersday 2012 because it was special enough to not only make me check out the events but also able to get back into the game proper… which wasn’t going anywhere.

More stuff to do isn’t a problem as long as you manage your priorities. Personally, I don’t mind not being able to complete everything because at least I won’t run out of stuff to do which is the worst.

And there are many people who have left Gw2 for a long while and this event is a good way to coincide with exploring whatever has changed in HoT.

Why PPK is a bad idea for WvW

in WvW

Posted by: ArchonWing.9480

ArchonWing.9480

Well I guess these can be legitimate concerns; some possible solutions.

  • Place a cooldown on how many points someone can give out, say they can only give out a max of 5 points per 30 minutes. This would help against spawn camping, or “feeding” abuse. This would also prevent people from being discouraged from doing suicide runs if they know the penalty for dying is nil.

I can agree with this, though 30 mins seems a little steep. Maybe something along the lines with how bags and WvW xp works. Like no points for 5/10 mins after respawning.

  • Killing uplevels yields 0 points or can give less points per hour than a level 80 can to not discourage new players, I’d even suggest limiting or even removing the ability to rally off an uplevel but that’s another issue.

I don’t like the idea that you get no points off of uplvls. I mean, their dmg, ccs, and so on do factor into what can kill you. Maybe reduced points, if we’re talking about more than 1 point per kill, or their cooldown on giving out points is longer than lvl 80s.

  • Killing a player with the outnumbered buff yields diminished points or none at all.

Diminished is cool, however, what about making it so if you have out-maned you get more points per kill? That way the underdog might get more benefits from winning against larger groups.

  • Place some arbitrary cap on total PPK per 15 minute tick to prevent more abuse and to discourage losing sides less as well as preventing it from excessively skewing the matchup.

Maybe, but if it’s low enough, like 1 point per kill, I don’t really see it being too much of an issue. Plus if some of your or my other suggestions are put in place then a cap might be a little overkill.

My numbers are completely made up, and I prefer to be on the conservative side because I sincerely do believe people can and will abuse anything. You’re probably right that 0 points from uplevels is a bit too harsh but they should probably get a longer “break” period than 80s. Though honestly, no matter what we do, WvW is going to be harsh on new players because the blame game will be tossed when things go south.

1 point per kill doesn’t seem like much, but if you have like a 30 v 30 when people are constantly running back after dying with random people seeing the swords and coming in, it could add up pretty fast. I mean 10 people dying is pretty frequent and is the equivalent of holding a tower for 15 minutes. Anyhow, I think PPK will add some flavor with the game, but I do also understand a lot of people would like this objective centered style of play even if I think that it’s a bit skewed in that direction and it makes things a bit boring. But at the same time, I definitely am aware of the snowball effect that easily happens when people are outblobbed.
