How is this considered a sale??

my personal favorite is the black lion pack on sale from 2000 gems down to 1600 gems… at a reported 44% off discount……………… maths not they strong suit I guess

Nope, that was 2880 down to 1600 so it was 44%. Since the before price has a strike though, the 8s looked very much like a 0. But you see the 8 is narrower than the 0.

LOL, I didn’t even notice that; I just thought Anet couldn’t do math. Ah, but it certainly isn’t worth that huge amount of gems though.

How is Tier 3 looking?

in WvW

ArchonWing.9480

I’m on SBI, and thanks to insomina I’ve been able to check out most of the time periods. Yes the commanders use TS, however we do have sporadic commanders during Early NA (5-7 PST) during Saturdays/Sundays, and that appears to be the weakest time. It gets a lot better during Reset and again during the end of the week. We also have weirdly good commander presence during midnight PST as well. Unfortunately, when there is no tag, we have a lot of people not on TS or in their own set of coms but we do have a pretty friendly group of regulars that are willing to help most solo/small group folks though there is a tendency to stack everyone in the same channel.

In terms of roaming as a whole, SBI is pretty sad though most fights on this tier tends towards blob though it gets better as you head towards late NA. As a result, other people have to get bigger groups to fight as well. SEA time is just a karma train, and EU is really sparse so I would not recommend T3 if you play a lot in those time periods.

How about tier 3?

Problem with T3 is that GvGs have moved there. If you are not specifically into that, you will regret going there sooner or later, and that always happens sooner, rather then later.

I’m not into GvGs and am in T3; been fine. The GvGs cause a brief spike in queues for about an hour at most during prime time, which isn’t more than usual plus they usually don’t run on Fri-Sat which means the population rarely runs into conflict, except maybe on Sunday at worst. In any case, the effect is nearly negligible.

You can stop slandering those guilds as a blanket statement or commenting on matchups you aren’t in now, thanks. And that applies to the rest of the fearmongering that has happened as of late.

The 2 weeks rapid release formula didn’t do good for me. I didn’t feel that the stream of quality content was sustainable, and it really showed. Good ol’ days they were not.

LS Season 2, which did an occasional burst of content release was more desirable.

Ehhh, the 800 gems one doesn’t seem worth it at all. 2000 gems one not really worth it unless you want both bag and bank slots and feel like gambling with the lion keys. Which I did as I only had 4 bank tabs, and got a few interesting things, though all and all I probaly would have been better off waiting for a discount on bank/bags. As bought, I pretty much paid full price on the extra storage and got the keys for free, or it can be perceived as getting them all 3 for a discount, though I normally would never buy keys. Dyes were kinda fun. I do have 8 of those stupid scraps though.

And yes, I actually will find the bag slots useful, as I split it between my ele and engineer and it feels a lot better as such.

All and all, I didn’t feel like waiting for a sale.

I’d love each meteor to hit 20 people though. Wonder how the retaliation is going to feel like.

In all seriousness, there are already skills, (mostly lines) that can affect a ton of players. Maybe we could use more of those?

Well, I think the very problem is that there are varying degrees of scale, and balancing all of them is impractical. What defines a blob.

When you talk about a “skill” group of 15 getting blobbed by a group of 50, do they view the same thing when they themselves blob down a group of 5? And what about when the group of 5 runs down a solo player?

So how are people drawing this line, and making either a one size fits all fix, or something more dynamic?

Ultimately I think the problem is that the OP started putting out solutions before really defining the problems. So while I think some ideas are novel, such as siege always being hit by AOE which sort of makes sense, I think we need to know why and what is being solved.

I do agree with some though. Glacial Heart placement is terrible and selfless daring definitely is really weak baseline.

The one thing I can’t get over though, is the relative crappiness of the honor adepts.

It’s cheaper to make a few particular items than to buy it yourself, typically revolving around consumables.

I could just sell my mithril ore and t5 dust and buy hardened sharpening stones, or I can just make them myself without having to go through the tp’s 15% if I sold the ore and such, having to wait on buy/sell orders.

I’ll agree with this in some cases, but in most I’ve found that the mats sell for more over all than an actual crafted product. Which can be attributed to the scarcity of/from nodes.

Not gonna dispute that; you certainly aren’t going to make much profit in most scenarios, but there’s definitely a few niche items here and there. In my case, mithril is just that common.

A lot of chef stuff tends to be better in that regards as well.

World Population Changes Are Coming

You can make a ton of gold if you find a good SW map and use the TP prudently. I’m not sure why people are so skeptical given that there’s been so much complaints about SW loot being so good though it does highlight how pathetic WvW rewards are by comparison. I mean, it’s easy to walk out with 10-20 gold after just a quick runthrough due to the masses of chests and materials, much more if I actually cared about farming gold which I don’t— gold’s a non issue unless you want legendaries, ascended, or gems anyways. Ascended is the only thing I really care for, and barely so since I would just be gearing my alts with ascended at this point.

ArchonWing.9480

Before the stability changes a guild group made a good chance on hurting a zerg. But these days even guilds run in zerg mode, or worse, zerg size :/

Kind of, but not necessarily. Most of that was because they had the crutch of stability to neuter CC of the other group.

To the OPs point, many other things contribute to a benefit of staying together, such as AoE cleanses and AoE boons.

Personally I find it completely illogical to want to come into a game mode designed around large scale combat and want to redesign it to add artificial concepts to create handicaps for large forces. If you dislike large force combat, go play PvP. I do not understand the concept of complaining about RvR or WvW combat having large forces and trying to artificially force players there to fight individually or in small groups. Particularly when there are other game modes already designed for thay style of combat.

I agree with most of that. It doesn’t make sense to discourage large fights in a world vs world fight, and the maps are large enough so that just doing a super blob is pretty inefficient. Blobbing is already penalized already; though certainly this assumes equal coverage.

Also, I have no idea why people seem to think AOE’s aren’t devastating enough against stacked people, considering how damage has been boosted lately (and there was a lot of cries about insta-death too). It’s not like meteors and immobilize-wells can’t already completely devastate people that just stay stacked and not mobile enough, given equal numbers, it’d still be a slaughter; and making AOE even stronger will just mean a pirate spaceship meta.

And organized groups can still destroy disorganized pugs very easily though I guess not as easily as before.

OP,

What are you trying to suggest? Obviously, there is no reason in particular that there should be an exception made for your friends. I also don’t think threatening to leave the game or spending gems is a reason why they should be able to enter tier 1 when there are other options other than tier 1. It’s certainly within your right, but it’s impossible to cater to everyone and not really an argument that you and your friends as individuals should be getting any special treatment.

I think a better suggestion would be to increase the server cap if there is evidence of such. Perhaps you could offer evidence that the t1 servers do have downtime and that would make more sense to make changes.

Let him leave – the game might be better off w/o them.

I don’t want server caps increased until the algorithm has a chance to really gauge what the true WvW population really is.

Well, that’s another thing. If it’s true that whatever they’re using is measuring things over the long term, it’s pretty ridiculous to make such short term observations to rant against it especially when it’s clear they’re doing this in the context of HoT.

That doesn’t mean people can’t be skeptical. On the other hand, threats and entitlement also don’t help either.

WVW stat question

Posted by: ArchonWing.9480

ArchonWing.9480

You’ll need more details than that, and depends on who you’re running with, or you’re alone because the required gear can greatly fluctuate as such.

In general, zerg builds go very heavy on the soldiers with zerker/valk/cav to boost damage as needed but in general it’s better to err on the side of caution when you’re new, because if you’re not good at reacting and with position you will often end up dead with a build that others could survive with. Usually you’d pack Altruistic Healing along with this, to give yourself a lot of sustain: Virtues/Honor/Valor are very standard trait spreads.

Fortunately, soldiers gear is pretty cheap on the TP. Don’t buy any gear with badges, as those armors cannot be salvaged which may be a problem if you want to get the runes out from it as you upgrade to ascended. Likewise, I would avoid karma gear as well; you’re better off converting the karma to gold.

Of course, it’s real and the fact that you can’t give a straight answer and decided to attack me personally just proves the point that said question is worth asking. Never mind that comment about ‘merica. It’s precisely because from my locale that I don’t understand why 1 PM on a summer afternoon equals the expectations that lots of people are playing video games, so forgive me for being a skeptic.

Small group roaming / solo roaming dead ?

in WvW

Solo roaming? It’s more in a coma with occasional signs of life, rather than dead. But that’s seemingly the trend for quite a while.

Anet has yet to figure out how to solve the issues that were created with the last set of major balance changes and thus all aspects of the game have been disrupted. I don’t consider it a permanent thing, despite my rather microscopic faith in their ability to work things out.

But can you blame people for running those builds when it’s so easy to be bursted down? Being able to disengage is mandatory as there is like no reaction time should it become a 1vX.

Is anybody currently happy with wvw?

in WvW

Posted by: ArchonWing.9480

ArchonWing.9480

I’m fairly enjoying myself, though naturally not completely happy due to the myriad of troubles that plague the game mode with no easy answer in sight. I consistently find myself having fun with my server and guild mates, and the chat is usually enough to get me going. Found our own borderlands completely lost and had to take it back with some folks met quite a few decent people along the way.

Mostly hoping for the new maps and HoT to give some more things of interest. Granted, that’s sort of a thin hope; I will only be giving the expansion the go given enough positive feedback. Because buying it for moar PvE is lol no.

As for the GvG situation, I find the hyperbole a bit laughable. Sure, there’s elitists and rude groups that I’d rather want gone as using our backyard as a playground in the way of objectives is akin to leeching I’d say and they should really go somewhere else. It leaves us waiting for guild halls as they have no intent of playing wvw, but there’s plenty of folks willing to do wvw on their own accord, so as I suspected the stereotypes were exaggerated, but that’s typical of slander. And it’s not like we queue that many maps (especially on weekdays) so the queue space problem is a non-issue unless for some reason they’re stupid enough to have fights near keeps.

Funny how GvG’ers get blamed for the misfortunes so much when I usually see PPT obsessed people as displaying the most toxic behavior, feeling entitled that everyone on the map has to accede to their demands, and of course the whole stacking fiasco is pretty much caused by those as well who think winning coverage wars is indicative of any sort of value. If I have to pick between people that only stick to their own and mainly cause problems by taking up space vs people who don’t care if they destroy every other server around them to achieve whatever nonsensical short sighted plan of which they’d use every single method of cognitive dissonance to justify their behavior, well let’s just say I won’t shed a single tear when you get stuck manipulating another server’s score and can no longer play with your 25 close relatives that somehow just bought the game yesterday.

You’ll know when I’m no longer happy if my presence around these parts vanishes as I don’t usually like to voluntarily subject myself to activities that aren’t pleasurable. Well… typically.

You really don’t need to do much damage for tagging; this is why staff guardians are so popular. It’s more of an issue of finding enough cleave/aoe to get the job done.

I don’t even bother putting on dps gear for open world events where tagging would be an issue. But this has to do more with the events being so easy that healing power is even more redundant than it already is.

ArchonWing.9480

I would estimate you could use any build assuming you filled in all the traits and got rare or better gear that 90% of the game is trivial, and a good part of the remaining 10% can be gotten through by understanding game mechanics and a functioning dodge key. Exceptions include the few fights that are timed and high level fractals that demand agony resistance.

The amount of sane people that care if you ran a meta build or not is very small and generally specify as such, though there is the occasional nutcase that decides the game should only play in one way. If you don’t join a speedrun, it really isn’t an issue.

Of course, if you want to farm stuff fast or take an interest in a certain content, picking up a meta build is generally productive if you learn to use it. In the end, there are definitely builds that work better than others given a certain context, however, as most content isn’t timed, and there aren’t any objective goals in content beyond completing it, it’s less of an issue as many would claim. Even the accumulation of gold to me is an arbitrary goal the way I see it— it’s merely a thing to purchase things you want, assuming you’re properly geared to a functional level. (Well, obviously you want to be able to afford stuff like waypoints, but that’s very trivial.)

Do you do the daily?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ArchonWing.9480

ArchonWing.9480

I do them often, if I can find 3 pve/wvw ones that I’m willing to do. I usually prefer to spend my time in wvw, so I don’t want to do any of the pve ones that take too much time as I would take a pve one typically when it takes less time than the wvw ones or there’s an interesting reward. (Something like mystic forge is ideal) There are some dailies I usually refuse to do unless it’s right in front of me:

  • Any region specific event completer aside from sparkfly. Never do this one. It’s ridiculously specific and too many people end up doing it.
  • Ascalon/Shiverpeaks gatherer. I usually don’t visit these places and is a incredible detour most of the time. I prefer lumberer or forager over miner because being rewarded mithril that doesn’t even pay for the wp cost is lame.
  • World Boss dailies unless really close to spawns. I do not like sitting around for a yellow or two and I hate how specific it is. Also, I never do Jormag regardless of timer.
  • WvW veteran creature slayer. I hate this daily because it has nothing to do with real wvw and is naturally a detour. These also get killed so much and I have better things to do then wait for a respawn.
  • Fractal dailies
  • WvW objective defender. Usually comes with normal play but no point taking a detour. I don’t consider this a viable alternative when time is limited.

So if the dailies are double fractal, shiverpeaks miner, event completer, wvw veteran creature slayer, then the remaining wvw dailies are the only choice. So if one of those is Keep capture and there aren’t any vulnerable keeps or I’m in a queued EB and there’s a daily ruins , I just won’t bother at all. Fortunately, these things tend to be rare, though somewhat annoying when it does happen.

The krait seem to be one of the few ebillllll factions in the game, as in they do stuff because they’re jerks and there isn’t much explanation beyond that. Usually I see Gw2 as generally having a pretty politically correct bent to portraying things. (Think: the friendly Centaurs/Dredge so that we know they’re not just all jerks).

Not that it really matters, although I suppose you often run into the generic “always evil” group that does evil stuff even to their own self-detriment in storytelling because too many details can often just be tedious/ Though I guess that actually happens too sometimes but I will not bring up any real life comparisons. I won’t be surprised if a new area contains ones that aren’t evil in a suicidal way.

IMO, we could use more privacy features. You should be able to toggle so that people should not be able to see your location or AP, or whatever unless you add them too.

Then parties would have ‘zerk only gear/gear check and AP check’.

Way I look at it is like this, if some turkey is asking for a full zerk ascended thermo nuclear devastation mode for an ac run, Ill stay away from them, life is too short to have needless ear ache.

Btw, done runs with people with 600 ap, and had loads of fun, so don’t take it to heart.

Well, I’m thinking more in general, and not just joining groups that require filling out a few forms to get in as those appear to be fringe anyways.

I’d actually be willing to display silly things like AP and [insert rank here] publicly and on the forums or whatnot. I’d even support dps meters because it’s actually meaningful but that should be a choice and some people just want their privacy on their matters. Then again, the amount of things to show off are kinda limited.

From my point of view, privacy is a bigger issue than elitism. And speaking of AP, I have around 8.3k just from dailies and monthlies, so it is indeed hard for me to place value on it.

Well, I sorta disagree with the notion that there’s not a need to use crafting stations in wvw. It’s the best way of bank access without having to leave wvw.

Personally, I think every wvw map should have crafting stations or maybe OP’s idea should be extended to all 4 maps. This would also spread out the people that came to wvw just to craft for whatever reason.

  • Any kind of champ farm (Silverwastes and Edge of the Mists are popular example)
  • Tomes of knowledge if you don’t need to level characters. These can be fairly trivially obtained via daily rewards, pvp, and sometimes the random wvw achievement for taking keeps. But you can’t really farm these, these just come as you play.
  • Dailies. Writs of experience also help make tomes.

All and all, it’s not much effort. The main problem is the waiting, but as you only need 120 to make one ascended set it’s not that bad.

Hide it from strangers; it’s worthless anyways.

IMO, we could use more privacy features. You should be able to toggle so that people should not be able to see your location or AP, or whatever unless you add them too.

Well, missing 2.5k health with all this power creep is sort of a problem. The loss of applied strength isn’t going to help matters that much. Anyhow, I assume that this may be resolved by the expansion and we’ll have more interesting things to spend points on anyways.

WvW Invitational Statement from John Corpening, game director for World vs. World

in WvW

Posted by: ArchonWing.9480

ArchonWing.9480

Someone should start a new thread after every patch tuesday listing “You had time to do this in sPvP/PvE, but not that in WvW”. I mean we get that they are busy, but still.

Like:

You had time to program ambient occlusion in the graphics engine, but you cant make garrison inner south door upgreadeable.

You had people work hard to fix the entire personal story, but no one can remove the constant particle effect in the water south of garrison.

You had Lions Arch rebuilt, but cant move spawn invoulnerability zones 4 meters to prevent exploits.

It would be a pretty worthless topic anyways, considering a lot of these things aren’t even worked on by the same people.

It’s proper to complain about the development of wvw having improper priorities such as the questionable pushing of certain events of dubious value such as seasons over changes of substance but there’s no point in being bitter that pve gets more focus just for the sake of being bitter. It does nothing in terms of feedback.

Anyhow, back on topic, it’s nice that the developers have been able to be more verbose on the topics on a broad level at the very least. However, I have not seen enough evidence that they are able to truly grasp how wvw is played. I think there should be more discussion about concrete things regarding strategy and tactics, as in precisely how they think people fight and defend, and more to the point, how combat changes when the scale of combat changes.

For example, if one just visualizes combat as 40 vs 40 and 2 v 2, then there would be a skewed view of World vs World. There’s indeed a lot of different situations that could happen and because the situation is so different across servers even at different time periods that it isn’t something that a few people can truly kitten properly. This would be a pretty big challenge, of course, and would require active observation of the experience of their own testing and player experiences. And it doesn’t have the controlled environment of pvp due to all the uncertainties that pop up. Of course, there’s no way to balance all of this, nor was that ever the intent but without the very concept in mind, there’s no way to make a working game mode.

Of course, don’t take any offense to this, because like I said, there is no way for any one to really speak for everyone’s experiences, and certainly probably too many suggestions where people try to balance WvW so easily, only to not realize it would only work for their corner of it.

Finally, QOL issues need to be further delved into. Example: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/SUGGESTION-Hand-health-features/first and https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/wuv/SSCTS-Superior-Siege-Carpel-Tunnel-Syndrome/5344997

This is not inherent to WvW; Gw2 has had many issues with this and I’ve always thought the interface and commonly used features need to be more user friendly. I feel Gw2 lacks polish in this regard. I think the ease of use is also something that is frequently overlooked when it comes to longevity.

HGH does reduce the cooldown of the elixir gun traits marked as elixir, including the toolbelt skill already (basically only fumigate isn’t affected.)

That wasn’t the case before— found out today actually in game. Some info is on the wiki:

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Healing_Mist
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Acid_Bomb
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Super_Elixir

Juggernaut should really have cooldown reduction though, and pistol cooldown should come with chemical rounds.

Specializations... Killing the game?

Hmm…

While I don’t mind the specialization system (either way is fine to me); I’m a bit curious on what build variety has been lost. Can anyone compose some builds that were possible in the old system but not new one? I can think of a few.

The discussion is fine and all, but I think some specific examples should be thrown out. Don’t include traits that have been removed, because that’s not an inherent problem with the trait system but rather trait selection which is a separate issue.

Are Anet trying to destroy WvW for good?

Mesmers are absolutely broken in small scale fights, but small scale fights in general are pretty silly atm I’d say. They’re pretty good in big fights (15+) of course, but I think of them more as an great addition to GWEN.

Deleting a class because one is salty about being dropped a few times is silly. Especially after the balance shakeups that are still in progress. Sorry, you’re just going to die sometimes and wvw being a large scale mode means that it’s not always within your control.

Hi Tich

I don’t have solutions, I wish I did which is a shame for a game with so much potential and as I will be the last to leave the server as far as WvW is concerned, I will make sure to turn the light off

  • It’s not your job to have solutions, it’s Arenanet’s responsibility to NC Soft.

Spin off WvW into a separate game and take on the likes of CU, you have more than a head start on the competition and there are still plenty of people who would buy the game. If CU can raise over $3 million for a concept there must be something in the format.

  • I don’t think CU is seen by Anet as a competitor for GW2. It’s my assertion that Mike O’Brien thinks that because the payment models are different, the player bases will be. I think he will be surprised when a lot of the WvW guilds (emphasis on “whole guilds full of players”) show him that they are willing to pay a subscription fee and move over to (at least try) CU.
  • I believe the reason Mike thinks WvW players like PvE is because they do it to suppliment their WvW play – for example, players might do PvE to get cool-looking gear to take into WvW, or to craft-up some food pots for WvW, or simply to earn gold to spend in WvW. Of course, there are some players who simply like to WvW because it adds variety to their PvE lives, but I consider them to be the minority (of WvW players), not the other way around.
  • Having said all of this, it’s clear that the WvW population is considerably smaller than the PvE population – you only need to look at the number of players on each map. You’re looking at what… 100-200 players in total per server at prime time? So although we consider ourselves to be quite a considerable number, we are like the GW2 of NCSoft’s income. Tiny.

I actually find the 2nd point somewhat hopeful, because that would mean perhaps the idea that people were taking wvw as a primary means of gameplay wasn’t even made aware to them, and they were still seeing wvw as a bridge to espohts pvp. In that case, there might be tons of room for improvement. The game, after all, has evolved in a way driven by players to a state that is probably different than what was previously intended.

Great post btw.

What kind of business avoids answers just because their customers were mean? They aren’t friends or family, and they certainly aren’t doing it out of the goodness of their own hearts. You’re right that they don’t have to answer, but that doesn’t mean people can’t keep asking and expecting an answer. And that was a pretty popular issue at the time.

The kind that strives to limit rude and inflammatory post on their own forums?

They have forum moderation for that already. Any post left intact is therefore condoned and hit the report button if you disagree. Also, it is irrelevant because I am stating that just because customers are irate or mean doesn’t mean they don’t deserve a response. It doesn’t make their points invalid. It is a variation of ad homenim to declare otherwise.

Two wrongs don’t make a right either.

Because it was a one week event, it deserves no comment? There were a number of exploits and buggy deployment and noting these events could be valuable information for the next time they plan something of the sort. There are certain things that I don’t want to see happen again. So I reject the notion that this topic is restrained to a single week.

Anyhow, a brief note about the event itself, a description, or something about what they perceived as results. Otherwise, why bother?

People have asked for comments on all content from gem store purchases to the next living story event, after all.

The opposite applies to your question if you ask me. Why does it “deserve” a comment? With all of the bias demand, and the ridiculously rude way multiple poster find a way to make threads around twisting every comment in every post they make here, What do you want them to say?

For that matter, what would saying anything change?

Not sure how people here being rude and biased is relevant at all, unless they consider the entire customer base to be that.

The only reason to play higher levels of fractals is for the aforementioned grind.

There’s also that “little” matter of fractals 30+ having the best drop chances of ascended weapon and armor boxes in the game. And fractal skins, of course, but those are rare enough that i feel sorry for people that’d want a specific one.

Ascended items can be crafted outside of fractals anyways. There would be no reason to do fractals just to get ascended items when say, you could have spent that time doing dungeons and getting enough gold anyways.

And yea, it’s true that fractal skins are naturally only coming from fractals, but that’s a given.

Basically, grinding all this fractal stuff is really just for the sake of doing it. Taking it away defeats the purpose of it.

The item that starts the quest really ought to be added to the laurel merchant.

Everybody ought to have access to the Star….

but veterans shouldn’t have to sit through a rerun of last years event. Plu, I think there was a title associated with the Grawnk part that ought to remain exclusive.

This is the best solution. Make it happen today.

Why the laurel merchant?

Probably because the laurel merchant sells some previous rewards already, such as the quartz and watchwork nodes. It wouldn’t be unusual.

Then again, your idea makes a lot of sense too.

That’s what fractals are meant to be though. It’s a self contained grind. It doesn’t help you anywhere else in the game. A gear treadmill would imply you must acquire the gear to access all future content.

The only reason to play higher levels of fractals is for the aforementioned grind. You can still experience fractals at level 1-9 and those don’t have any need for agony resist, with level 10-19 requiring a trivial amount that is easily earned just by playing the lower levels.

I have never been in anything higher than 15, since I don’t care about the grind.
