Revenant's support vs Guardian's

in Guardian

Posted by: ArchonWing.9480

ArchonWing.9480

Ah, well sorry about that.

I’m just pointing out that support isn’t based solely on boon duration; it’s merely a part of what you can contribute so if I would compare it to Revenant support abilities, I would naturally compare it to the best (usable build) across all classes, not just guardian.

But since people were criticizing in that manner, I figured I’d give my take on how to make the build more practical, and we’re still getting 50% boon duration with a staff and 20 more if you choose boon duration food. And FYI, I actually tested a variant of the build (but without boon duration stuff since I don’t have any of that gear), and it works quite swell anyways in various situations. With boon duration it’d probably be better.

In the end, experimentation is good, so in the end, I don’t want to point out flaws only but try to create something out of it even if it’s not necessarily the best. I don’t like pure theory.

Tower and Keep Portals

in WvW

Posted by: ArchonWing.9480

ArchonWing.9480

No, defending is already enough of a bother, not to mention the classes that are most likely to slip into a tower are also the ones that can best avoid combat.

The scenario is also unrealistic because it makes the assumption the defenders are already in the tower A lot of times the defending force has to get in the tower to begin with.

This also encourages the use of groups of SA thieves just keeping people in combat and running around so they can’t enter doors.

This also makes it a lot worse for already outnumbered people that are spread out. Not that anyone ever cared, but yea.

Why do I have to choose? Honor Specialization

I dislike the current setup for Honor traits. Currently, I only take it for pure of voice, purity of body, and selfless daring which is meh now. The adept choices are terrible jokes and the majors are okay but really boring as well. It also just seems very specific.

The problem with writ of persistence is that it goes against the shout trait and the 3k health trait, so it’s hard to make space for it. I really think it should be adept or major.

ArchonWing.9480

Yea, this is quite bad.

I don’t mind them making the fix actually. But how nobody saw this to be a problem in the first place is the more striking one. I understand that there was a lot of possibilities, but it might have been better to just not allow them in wvw.

Again, I understand the need for the fix. But I just feel like you are punishing your players for your mistakes and as stated above you didn’t do a good job of notifying people either. And this wouldn’t be the first time. One example would be that time when the monthlies were reset for no reason and then they were just like “too bad” without any thought of compensation.

Perhaps we can accept that what’s done is done, but perhaps there may be a way to make up for it. I wouldn’t know how, but anything is better than ignoring bad things happened.

Consider the last trouble with the tickets for the tournaments. One of them was handled pretty well, I would say, the one where everyone received extra tickets.

Now I understand that the game isn’t just wvw and perhaps there was no choice in the matter. So, I would not like anyone to think I’m personally attacking them; it’s entirely possible that you (they) or whoever’s reading this isn’t responsible at all. But regardless of why, we are here right now. So please don’t feel I’m pointing the finger at what happened, but rather what can be done to resolve it.

Consecration baseline should be swapped

in Guardian

Posted by: ArchonWing.9480

ArchonWing.9480

Umm, it doesn’t make any sense for a -cooldown/+duration trait to be made baseline, because that’s just a straight up buff. Making ground targeted consecrations baseline makes sanctuary and hallowed ground a lot more useful.

Regarding the issue they could have an option for “cast at player location” unless you hold the button down which will make it the same as fast target. Of course, you’ll be at a disadvantage against anyone that is fast enough to cast it where they want but it doesn’t matter at this point.

Revenant's support vs Guardian's

in Guardian

ArchonWing.9480

I sure hope they could, because honestly, I think this isn’t a good build. And I’m not saying this because it’s not meta. I have tried to use all kinds of mace builds from healing to communal shatter. I really want mace to become viable in group wvw, but the reality is that fights are too mobile.

Although I suppose this might be for smaller fights. However, your lack of mobility would hinder you even more.

You have weak condi removal. No purging flame means you really have no burst condi removal aside from expending your f2 and this creates further issues. And, you are taking save yourselves with 0 -condi duration. Plus you’re using a shield, which pretty much means you don’t have an offhand. You stuffed your weapons with worthless boon duration doubloons when you could put sigils that would make a bigger impact. I could accept it just being in some jewelry but not your weapons.

So you’re really only stuck with backline healing/support but you’re vastly inferior to any ele or standard warrior and they can actually hurt the opposition, either with range or with gap closer. You don’t have any of this.

I would suggest something like this instead.

http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?vVAQNApfWl8AhWhYzQwcIQQEHJEVeG+vAE3AhQKcLgA4AA-TxCEABRpkwJlYcpE0gTAATKFaa/BFV/RLlBdoPAgDBwDPBASBskUL-e

Yes, as long as you have the points to spend to unlock a line, you can get the full line (once the slot is unlocked).

That sounds pretty good then. Even with a full tree and some of a 2nd tree, it’d make it pretty easy as opposed to the crippled characters I felt before with NO Gm traits until level 80.

Ascended items are account bound, so technically it is not necessary to make individual sets for each one of your characters. It being annoying to shift things around is another issue.

I don’t really think it’s broken as much as your needs being outside the bounds of typical play. The design is intended to be a long term goal. 15 full ascended sets would be over 10k gold, that in itself is quite a endeavor.

It’s very obvious that in order to make Lion’s Arch profitable and running due to the poor economy and all that rebuilding effort was to gentrify it and turn it into a tourist trap. So tourists will come admire the beauty while being ripped off by shady vendors like the Miyani-Zommoros racket while life becomes more inconvenient for the locals causing them to move onto other locations that provide a better lifestyle like Divinity’s Reach and Rata Sum. As the lower class citizens leave, the property will be bought up by the rich landowners and the situation will become more pronounced as Lion’s Arch becomes even more beautiful yet even less functional, and pretty soon you will have to pay for waypoints and other infrastructure because you find out Kiel’s been secretly spending the money on Asuran crack and it’s already too late because she’s broke and has nothing to pay back.

We await the next chapter in the amazing Lion’s Arch saga when the forces of Walmart come to make their presence in Lion’s Arch felt.

Make Reflect into Destroy

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

ArchonWing.9480

Why shouldn’t it be?

Because if everything is about ‘more dps’ then it becomes boring, static. There would be one optimal build. The one that does the most damage.

Even the holy trinity would be better. I’ve got many friends who tire quickly of GW2’s combat because it is only dps focused, and find games that focus on the trinity to be a godsend.

GW2 has a lot of potential with its combat system, but currently it only matters for dps which results in our berserker meta, leaving any concept of support, control, debilitation, etc. gone in the dust.

Of course some people won’t mind such but from what I see, most people do.

When you run the same content thousands of times, anything becomes stale. I would say the lack of a dynamic or even functional AI is the cause of boring gameplay. The above thread shows a very simple example of enemies shooting themselves to death. Of course that’s boring. It’s boring against other players that don’t realize that either. As a result, I feel that pve is more fun just by striking enemies dead faster and doing it as fast as possible.

Also, I haven’t done any dungeons in the last two weeks since that patch, but unless things have changed drastically, there are so called zerker meta pve builds that aren’t full dps. There are full dps variants if support isn’t needed, but there are also more balanced zerker builds. Being zerker doesn’t prevent you from giving out any defensive boons.

Let’s look at a dps guardian guide; I assume these guys are knowledgable:

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/guardian/Guide-DPS-Guardian-for-PVE/3204949

There seems to be a few options here. Why are traits like battle presence, indomitable courage, and absolute resolution possible suggestions when they don’t hurt enemies? Or talk about rings of warding and blinds?

Mesmer zerg support build?

I’m new to mesmers but this seems to be working pretty well. Been playing a bit this past week. Naturally you can ditch feedback/signet of humility and run veil/time warp if your zerg doesn’t have any veilbots. Feedback is just me being greedy.

Stability is a very important boon, and mantra of concentration makes things easier for you and your crew, not to mention it gives you two stunbreaks. I noticed your build has no access to stunbreaks, so it can be very hard to navigate through zergs. Blink is also key to positioning yourself well so you don’t get 111’d to death.

The key here is the trait bountiful disillusionment, which provides a host of boons for your shatters, and the cool part is you don’t actually need any active clones or phantasms to set it off. In addition shatters also AOE blind, which makes it good for mitigating damage.

As for the lack of damage, I think my reflects do a good job, it’s harder to see a temporal curtain as opposed to feedback and the pull is also highly useful.

I may get around to trying mantra of healing again. I’m just worried about using the casts up and having to channel it, as well as having taken harmonious mantras.

Yea, there’s gotta be a way to limit the reflects, as in you shouldn’t be able to set more reflects than ranged attacks people can put out. I think most of these skills should have cooldowns so that it’d be harder to time.

Oh wait.

In PvE, reflects are not only utility, but they are a great boost to dps and pve is centered around dps. Timing your reflects while providing safety is a more fun option then just hitting someone which makes it really tedious.

In anything else, well, most classes have something that’s not a projectile to use. Rangers, for example, have barrage, and then you can always take advantage of your range to reposition yourself. It’s not really anyone’s fault if you spam 1 into a blue wall.

Besides, in wvw at least, there are quite a few people complaining about being sniped from afar, and that the cooldowns from reflects aren’t sufficient enough.

Unless Arenanet has some ulterior motive – besides annoying the veteran WvW players – then this is just some random, out-of-touch, spur of the moment event they ‘think’ the WvW population would enjoy. Well surprise, surprise; from all the feedback I have heard from those that actually play WvW as their main game mode this is not the case.

Maybe because those that cry the loudest are always the ones that are heard. You think everyone that wants to take part in this is going to come and post when some negative nancy will try to ruin the fun for them even before the event happens.

This is the thing. As a veteran you should welcome any test or change. If you don’t well you really don’t want WvW to EVER CHANGE. With so many negative post from people claiming they are veterans, it has made me look at those veterans as old grumpy players.

This game is starting to have more old grumpy players than actual veterans, like myself, who will welcome any test, event or change to the one game mode they like to play.

I agree with everything but the bold. That’s a false dilemma; I do not think mindlessly accepting any change is any better than refusing any change. I would argue that as long as people enjoy the game as it exists to any degree, there is the possibility that some changes can be bad.

Strength in Numbers vs Communal Defenses? WvW

Strength in numbers (it’s 150 toughness), since Aegis only protects from one hit which is of limited usefulness given the cooldown unless you run it with other aegis traits.

However, if your group already has guardians running strength in numbers so that it adequately covers everyone, then you could always take communal defenses, because strength in numbers doesn’t stack anyways. In most reasonable scenarios your group can usually have both as long as you get some guardians to run strength in numbers.

To be fair, the last major discussion was pretty recent, which makes it a bit jarring:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/wuv/Omega-golems-have-no-place-in-wvw/first#post5256651

But there’s no real consensus.

If you narrow the range for omega golem to the range of one year, you don’t get many results talking about them at all:

https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=%22omega+golems%22++site:https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/wuv/&tbs=qdr:y

Which brings up the other major thread with some strong sentiments on both sides:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/wuv/Should-Omega-Golem-Be-Nerfed

So no, I actually don’t see that many complaints about omega golems.

Compare this to say, https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#tbs=qdr:y&q=%22arrow+carts%22++site:https:%2F%2Fforum-en.guildwars2.com%2Fforum%2Fgame%2Fwuv%2F

where the first page of results alone shows a lot of complaints at a glance.

But none of that is relevant. The issue here is not whether omega golems in their current state are broken, but what supplyless omega golems would do to the game mode.

So we have one of our FSP also say that Anet is out of touch with the players, whilst the other has only made 4 posts.

So is the WvW dev talking to you ArchonWing to get more information on this event?
Did you or zhonnika suggest such an event?
If no, then why on earth did the WvW dev think this was a good idea?!

The FSP program is supposed to keep the devs in touch with each part of the community, so if the WvW FSP is saying they arent WTF is going on?!

I’m speaking for myself on the matter as my own personal opinion as a user. As there are people that may disagree with this assessment, I’m not passing it off as truth so please don’t quote me on such.

And no, I didn’t suggest anything like this, nor do I recall any sentiment that would be accepting of this, in fact there’s a thread disapproving of golems that’s quite new, nobody has talked to me on this, and judging by the response here, I don’t think my thoughts are too unreasonable that there is some form of disconnect.

In the end, it’s not really about a for or against situation, but “where” these ideas are coming from and “why” this is happening when there are many other perceived issues of importance? If these things aren’t mutually exclusive to deal with, then there wouldn’t be a problem, of course. I think I tried to express it over there in the very first forum specialist thread we had a few weeks: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/wuv/Seeking-WvW-Forum-Specialists/5123785 and yes I actually did just link said conversation over.

Ideas for other WvW "special events?"

in WvW

Posted by: ArchonWing.9480

ArchonWing.9480

I think these things are nice, but some moderation is needed to not disrupt regular play that much but still allow “flavor”. For example, having say, -25% cost reduction to siege, or making Stonemist Castle worth 50 points, allow conditions that hinder/speed people up in certain areas, halve fall damage, or making 12 minute ticks, etc. These things would be enough to alter the matchup signifigantly but still allow people to do their thing.

So I say I wouldn’t be necessarily opposed to the golem event if it were more mild. So if it’s setting off something where they’ll do this on a semi-regular basis, I’m willing to take the chance of disruption.

You’ll just have to respect the fact that a lot of people are dedicated to their cause and take wvw really seriously. This really impacts their cause. To add onto, it, given their general neglect of this game mode, this really comes across as a slap in the face.

And I don’t consider “don’t play wvw” to be a viable solution, because that’s what a lot of people are electing to do.

If they introduced an instant kill button in which you press 1 to kill everyone on the map, then I think people would have a right to complain even if death is cheap. Then again, this isn’t that far removed, if not that extreme.

I would have settled for say, 25% less supply, and more subtle buffs.

And FYI I’ve had no trouble adapting to the excessive damage quickness meta.

I disagree.

You are effectively “forced” into this event if you want to play wvw. It’s unlikely you can avoid golems doing 100% extra damage to your character and of course, those structures and locations you’d like to defend.

Obvious golem/gold/badge sink event.

But really, out of touch really does go with it. This is quite the opposite of what should be done.

And remember, wvw isn’t meant to be balanced, so it’s apparently okay to go willy nilly.

How many yaks have you slapped?

Tiered titles doesn’t sound like a bad idea; would anyone of you want something like that given how wvw titles take a unusually long time relative to other achievements?

Anyhow, I have slapped 3089 yaks. Wait that’s not even 3%. That’s 0.3%

/blames rangers for knocking them away.

On the other hand, while I could conceive of slapping 1 million yaks before I die (spend tons of time just camping enemy camps to spawn yaks— oh joy) , how the heck is someone going to defend SM castle 500,000 times? I only have 426 of those.

Well, I’m a guy that’s rolled 8/8 female characters, because the males and their armor looked too plain.

At this point I’d settle for anything more outrageous, if not for the lulz. Bring on the Stallone look!

Tombs of Knowledge. Do a little sPvP and you’ll get enough tombs to ding an 80 in no time. I’ve levelled 3 characters from around 35 to 80 in a few weeks. And I don’t play every day, or even for that long. Not only that its been raining ascended gear too. I’ve had 6 items drop. 3 armor, 2 weapons and a ring.

Honest question here:

Is, skip playing your character, really a good solution to a situation where playing the character has been rendered unenjoyable by developer fiat?

How is playing PvP skipping playing your character? You have 2 choices to “fix” the problem. Go out and do “hero challenges” or use ToK to level to gain the points you need to “fix” your build. I hove no problems playing the game after the change, i just wanted a quick way to get gear ready to gear up a rev, and sPvP was the quickest.

You spoke of using tomes to level a character. That would bypass leveling through playing content would it not? I, for example, have more than enough tomes to instant level any character to 80, which would of course involve skipping the vast majority of the game. How is skipping the majority of the game a good solution to a decision on Anet’s part to remove the fun of playing a character?

“The vast majority of the game” isn’t leveling to 80. And I am thankful for that, because this would be a pretty awful game. Even on the toons I leveled conventionally, it would represent 5-10% of total time played. You can still play non-80 zones after you reach level 80. The game allows you to go through the content as you wish, for the most part. Like I suggested before, it’s easy to reach level 80 without playing through the entire map, and that’s exactly what I found was interesting. In other words, you could bypass a lot of the content to begin with.

Leveling to 80 doesn’t end the game; a lot of people would argue that the game starts there and a lot of new content and balance will be centered around 80. And given that tomes are given out via daily rewards, people having all level 80s will be a given eventually.

It was pretty badly done and pretty arbitrary if you ask me.

On the other hand, it really isn’t a big deal. Under the previous system, you’d have only a few traits anyways in the mid-levels and you don’t really need them either. My last 4 were made under the previous garbage trait system. 2 of them were mostly leveled with tomes but the ones I did for real, thief and ele, have 22% and 9% map compleition, respectively. You can reach level 80 without touching a single 80 zone even if you stick around in the faceroll low zones and do world bosses. I only have one characater (necro) with more than 60% map done.

And this is especially true now, because you get tomes for logging in. In 2 months, you can get 20, so even if you just sat there, logged in, and did nothing, the problem would resolve itself in a few months.

This is better than reaching level 80 and being locked out anyways, having to shell out gold just to use your character when the game is balanced around you being 80 and having a full array of traits.

Elixir B is meh, the toolbelt stab is redundant and unreliable, and I think there are better options. C is ok but I think you’re missing out on too much by taking it, not to mention there’s others classes that are better at cleanses.

http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?vdAQFAUlUUhyrYtWw+KQ7FL3F14I2EJB4CWABg4B9D5AA-TliFABqoiAM7Pci6ISqSQVKBB4CAYkyvz0BcoKEJ8AACAgAczbGASoFaG6Qv5yt5QLDQxWA-w

I’m using this for blobs, but still changing it around a lot.

For less blobby situations, tool kit is the obvious choice:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vdAQFAUlUUhSuYtWw+KQ7FL3F14V0EJB4CWABg4B9D5AA-TliFABqoiAM7Pci6ISqSQVKBB4CAYkyvz0BcoKEJ8AACAgAczbGASoFaG6Qv5yt5QLDQxWA-w

It lacks mobility (but you can always stick rocket boots in here) but with mortar and rifle I can usually do stuff before going deep.

Don’t spam FT1 unless you like retaliation, as you go through, instead, use orbital strike—-ft2 —-> toss elixir U —--> ft 5 first. The blind is great.

Elxir U is pretty arbitrary. Sometimes it gets replaced with tool kit (of which you can always add throw wrench to your attacks.

I would imagine our titles are hidden to allies to avoid that “Oh, he’s not even bronze” comments that are sometimes leveled against people when stuff goes wrong. Of course, that’s dumb since rank rarely correlates with wvw ability beyond maybe the first 100 levels as people learn. I would know that myself.

That doesn’t stop it from being an optional display or a selectable title of course. I’d rather be a “legend” then a Gold raider. For the most part, I think I stopped caring after I maxed out most of the important stuff.
