We need REAL rewards to show-off

in WvW

ArchonWing.9480

Well, WvW exclusive armor skins would be a nice idea. And reward tracks would be nice.

Again, WvW is really the only activity you can play a lot of, and get absolutely nothing to show for it beyond a rank that only your enemies can see and probably don’t care about besides putting a target on you. A lot of people that spend lots on upgrades and superior siege don’t even make enough from the very game mode they are playing. This is stupid. The worst is the feeling is that the more important the things are that you do, the less you get rewarded; if that’s not a slap in the face, I don’t know what is. Someone playing pve (even with expensive food) and pvp can sustain themselves naturally as long as they have a pulse.

Yea, I get that a lot of people don’t play this game mode for rewards, but why is every other mode able to be played for enjoyment and other stuff? Fun and prizes are mutually exclusive. And no, don’t give me that crap about “skill” or whatever. I want my “I defended my keep for 5 hours and all I got was this lousy t-shirt” style reward.

It doesn’t matter if people don’t care about rewards. What matters is Arenanet cares about WvW, and giving them more reasons to care would be better than giving them less than they already need. I think working out a good solution to this can give the entire game mode a bit more polish and fun for some segments for the population, like it does for pvp.

Also, as for leaderboards; I wouldn’t take them seriously. Then again, I take no leaderboards seriously in this game, but I don’t really mind fluff if it doesn’t take much effort to implement.

No it’s not only about PPT; that’s sorta backwards. PPT is a component of WvW, and important to the leaderboards, world rewards, and glicko matchup system but WvW is about many things: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/World_versus_World

World versus World (also known as WvW) is a Player versus Player game mode where players from three different servers, or worlds, battle in the Mists. It features open-world combat on five large maps with up to several hundreds of players per map. In World versus World, players can besiege structures such as Keeps and Towers with siege weapons, and battle over resources, to win rewards for their world and World Experience for themselves.

WvW is designed to accommodate players that would not normally participate in PvP. For instance, the high player limit means that a new player can get involved without immediately feeling pressured to contribute. In addition, objectives are available for a variety of group sizes, so players don’t need to be members of dedicated guilds in order to be productive. There are also PvE objectives in the world such as hero challenges, events and jumping puzzles.

And yes, while it is silly to bring up the jumping puzzle, the very existence of Obsidian Sanctum should contradict that WvW is exclusively about the score.

Are you in t3 to witness this giant conspiracy? Because I haven’t really seen it.

Because you know, it’d take a ton of effort to reach t2; now that would take matchfixing.

Is SBI better though? We dont have many havoc guilds, but we will send a pug zerg to kill 1 guy taking a camp. It’s all meh.

Lies. We do not send the zerg unless 2 people attack it. Unfortunately, some may mistaken mesmer clones or ranger pets for people.

As for the rest, I wouldn’t let a few people make everyone look bad. Maguuma is still the only server to have people attempt to join my party without trash talking, in my experience.

WvW is harsh for uplevels anyways; much less for new players that haven’t gotten used to game mechanics. If they really want to enjoy wvw, they need to make it to 80. The level up chests also offer exotic gear that can hold them off once they reach it.

Leveling isn’t really that bad in this game, ever since they reformed the terrible trait system so that you didn’t have to pay to unlock every trait (or do some boring task).

PvP is the fastest. Followed by EOTM’ing and simply running through random places in the open world— do events that overlap with hearts for double credit and never do any hearts that require doing anything but killing stuff. I often also do the first part of the personal story just to grab the key and it grants nice experience while being really easy anyways.

I dislike crafting to level as it is pricey on a new account and also rather tedious running around to get stuff and look up lists. Though if you must, go to rata sum and not some place awful like Lion’s Arch.

“People are going to/already hacking/cheat/grief anyways” is not a valid argument.

And claiming EOTM is good enough for these f2p players is good enough, is not good enough, and way beyond a valid arguement. It’s the words of one who thinks they are an elitist and dont want noobs spoiling their game.

And why is that only possible from an elitist to say something like that? That notion of “noobs spoiling wvw was never mentioned”. Also, this does nothing but to sidestep my point that the relevance of potential sabotage is a an issue unless you’re agreeing with that notion already

We’ve complained about how EOTM isnt WvW due to the fact it has no impact to WvW, that PvE players have made it their K-Train, and that even veteran WvW players dont even bother going there unless they are in a really really bad matchup and want to annoy the K-Trainers!

Perhaps that’s the reason why the suggestion was made in the first place? It is the priority of potential damage to the wvw people care about so much that they may make such a suggestion and also be mindful of this exception to EOTM as a potential compromise.

The fact that they have to level to 60 first should be good enough, as you said the money isnt much for a core account, so if spies really are dedicated to spying they will buy several copies, and you know they already have.
This will add a few spies but again as I said it wont have much impact if you ask me.

I do not think level 60 is that hard to get.

But if you think telling these new players to go to EOTM instead for theri “WvW experience”, then frankly you are talking out of your kitten !

I’m afraid there might be a possbility that yes, someone could hold that opinion in a sincere fashion. I think if they’re not paying, then it’s reasonable that there could be some restrictions.

And honestly this whole statement is confusing an subjective opinion with an objective fact.

I mean, after all, I don’t think it’s reasonable to argue that WvW offers the same experience as EOTM does. I don’t think any one argues that. I also don’t think it’s reasonable to suggest that WvW has nothing in common with EOTM, because objectively speaking it is chosen from the WvW menu, shares mechanics such as supplies and siege, oh and it grants WvW experience. And there does exist Mists supply. I think I and maybe others can form the opinion of “EOTM isn’t to the same level is WvW’”, but “EOTM isn’t wvw” is merely hyperbole to drive home the former point and doesn’t really have that much value when taken literally.

It’s much like say, hotjoin in PvP, where many serious players would not even bother with, but it’s still within that game mode, and still useful for a beginner to grasp. This analogy isn’t perfect because at this point hotjoin would be more similar to PvP, as EOTM is to wvw, but I think my point is there.

So no, I don’t accept any of these things, because I never said most of them in the first place. You don’t have a right to make these claims about people that disagree with you, nor does speaking on behalf of veteran players really allow such a conclusion to be made either. That, and you’re making some strong insinuations about a lot of people in this thread that might be veteran wvw players too.

EOTM is not WvW!!!

If you are worried about spies, they’ve been in WvW since launch!
If you are worried about siege trolls, they’ve been in WvW since launch!

Yes this allows there to be more spies, but they still have to level to 60 to get access to WvW and even EOTM.

So if those people are willing to waste gold craft leveling so be it, the impact it will have on real WvW will be minimal, if even noticeable as there are already spies on your server!

Megaserver decimated any sense of server pride. No more yelling in Lions Arch for reinforcements when a keep is going down. Even PVE types would come help in some capacity.

This is how people got into WvW in the past. They hear the announcement in LA, and come in; there’s something exciting going on, everyone is on the same page and working towards the same goal: the experience is fun and there’s server pride/cohesion.

Now: new plaeyers come in by themselves, have no idea what’s going on….
run out of spawn a few times only to get one-shotted by gankers, and never return.

Yea, I would definitely say the megaserver thing for cities definitely dealt a blow to this concept.

I mean, in the past you’d likely see many in lion’s arch that you would in wvw, but now it really takes another step to get acquainted with people and if you log on when there aren’t many friendly on people, well…

Although was there really an exception for Lion’s Arch? I know it sometimes tries to put you together with your servermates, but it seems very on and off.

Let’s see here. We were talking about why anyone would take heal bombs over bunker down. Talk about gvgs or even engis not being meta in wvw zerging is irrelevant— even heal bombs being crap is irrelevant. Point is, would it be better than what we have now in the specified situation.

If heal bombs is a less bad choice than bunker down then Coglin’s rebuttal has merit.

Things don’t have to meta to exist, as long as they have a use somewhere in the game and there are good alternatives.

Furthermore, healing bombs did about 190 with 0 invested in heal power. This is diffrent now because inventions do not give 300 healing powers but readjustments are possible. Some other traits like selfless dwring really suck due to loss of trait stats so it is something to look at as a whole.

If Elementalist gets “Water Blast” which heals while they attack (To include self healing) then engineer should get back “Elixir Infused Bombs”. If we can’t have that back, then take away Elementalist’s “Water Blast” ability.

That’s not a good argument, because it’s almost comparing apples and oranges, nor are classes supposed to be identical in utility.

To switch to water attunement, an ele locks themselves out of whatever else they were using for 10 seconds, not to mention that the water skills don’t do very much damage. A bomb engineer still does high damage and only suffers a 1s lockout.

It’s fine to compare this to a real healing source like ele water staff, but resorting to hyperbole like that helps no one.

Simple way to fix stale Tier matchups

in WvW

Posted by: ArchonWing.9480

ArchonWing.9480

Here is the most simple way to fix the stale matchups.

If you come in first you move up, if you come in second you stay, if you come in third you drop down. This way you will be fighting two new teams each week.

This would even apply to both T1 and T8. The top 2 servers stay in T1 and the bottom 2 servers stay in T8. Gives incentive.

Dump the stupid glicko, win move up, lose move down. Simple.

And what better way is there than to see how you could do against better talent than having to prove it. If you’re down by 8K on a Thursday night (NA time) then wouldn’t it be more fun to have to fight to stay or fight to move up? Wouldn’t more people wan to come into WvW if there was a chance to move up or at least a new matchup the next week? And how about giving the winner something silly like a few laurels or silver or some sort of token that could be traded in after enough are acquired to make it even more lucrative to want to win in WvW?

What do you think?

I think all that does is trade what you deem as a stale match up for unbalanced matchups that I feel would be boring.

I would have to agree. If variety is something unplayable, then I could care less for it. As it currently goes, the servers would have to be much closer in population but it appears that the disparity between tiers is just too great to even bother with.

I’m in T3. Having one of us move up to t2 and another to t4 will just create trash matchups for 3 tiers. What’s the point?

Anyhow, I’m all for awarding tokens or whatnot at the end of the week, but these issues are separate.

Yeah, this is the skill that seems to be unanimously seen as the trait that should be changed to bring EIB back to replace.

Why would anyone ever take Elixir Infused Bombs over Bunker Down?

If they would replace it, they should offer something new, not bring back an old trait that has already been replaced with something better.

Why? Because I am a am WvW commander who is on the front lines. I can heal in an AoE while doing damage, AoE blinding, crippling and I’m mobilizing the enemy. I found the AoE heal of 1350 to be significantly superior to a single medpack and minor damage of a single mine with a bugged trigger range.

As well, to get the heal you have to be specifically moving forward. You cannot be staffing or backpeddling. Which are both common tactical movements often made. I those cases the medpack itself often becomes totally useless.

That still doesn’t explain why you are against the concept of diversity in this matter.

Why would you take Medical Dispersion Field over Bunker down?

MDF is for Group support while bunker down is for self support and damage. Easy.

Actually, MDF is only good for the extra challenge of missing a GM trait.

But in any case, it is true that neither bomb heals or MDF in any form would really contradict with bunker down so the comparison with bunker down is pointless.

How about merging elixir infused bombs into MDF?

  • No Yoloing ahead
  • Don’t spam knockbacks
  • Don’t try to “take over” the run or get mad in any fashion when things don’t go right

Considering a number of dungeons can be done with random builds and <5 people, it actually often doesn’t really matter what the last person you bring in really runs as long as they’re here to like, do the dungeon or something. Yolo’ing ahead and making bad pulls of course, is the only hazard.

A question to our community at large

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ArchonWing.9480

ArchonWing.9480

The issue is with people, not the game.

People who want to take the scenic route will just have inherently different ways of playing as opposed to speedrunners. This goes far beyond stats and builds, which is why changing or nerfing whatnot is never going to help. Shifting what’s optimal actually hurts casual players more, because guess who can afford to regear more? Hardcore players that see mechanics changes will just adapt their theorycrafting around it.

What about stuff like mob skips and pulling and whatnot? Maybe the casual player doesn’t mind a wipe or two, etc while a serious group may not tolerate.

That’s the issue that seems to always get glossed over in this debate.

But yea, ultimately it’s a human issue. People should not join runs where they don’t meet their requirements, and people should not be rude when they don’t specifically list these requirements and expect all pugs to be magically experts.

If you did play the game regularly, that content would have been free. If not, gems can still be acquired via in-game gold so you could get it without paying and actually just playing the game.

Acquire Dire Gear with Badges?

in WvW

Posted by: ArchonWing.9480

ArchonWing.9480

Badge gear is highly outdated and was never really changed to reflect changes in the game. The gear being non-salvageable didn’t mean a big issue when exotic was the best you could get. Naturally, no new stat combos were ever added either. Furthermore, just buying it off the TP doesn’t really cost that much at all so I guess they never saw the need. Weirdly enough, they did change the Orr karma gear to more useful stats over time though… Honestly I would suggest that over wvw invader gear. It’s also entirely possible they want certain stat combos to be harder to acquire. Dire is a somewhat newer stat than the original ones.

On the other hand, exotics are so cheap anyways. If you just sold 10 alpha golems, you’d get around 3.5 g, and dire gear costs a 3g a piece on the TP. So you’d pay 14.5 g instead of 5.44g and 950 badges. (source: Gw2 Wiki, yay!). That saves 12.5g and 50 badges to get subpar armor that can’t be salvaged. And this isn’t assuming any buy or sell orders. For other stat combos, Soldiers (about 2g a piece) and say Rabid (1g a piece), it becomes very bad. Honestly, beyond zerker and knights I would suggest converting karma to gold.

IMO, they should reduce the gold cost and increase the badge cost. And make them salvagable but just not let them give ectos or whatnot. Another possibility is to allow special crafting substitutes that could be bought with badges.

Yea, it’s explicitly stated to only refer to consumption or toss. Personally, I think it’s solid enough as a minor trait as it is.

HGH is intended to cover a more broad range of things; and actually affects a lot more than 4 skills:
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/HGH

It does not have the consumption or toss requirement and thus applies to more skills than it did before the specialization change. As a side note, elixir cooldown reduction never reduced toolbelt skills cooldowns, but now they do.

Engineer Build Compilation - All Modes

My general WvW zerging FT build:
http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?vdAQFAUlUUh2tYtWw+KQ7FL3FF4CWABg4B9D5w4I2EJBA-TFjFABqoiAM7PciqASqSQVKBB4CAYkSPCVDgKlBnpD4QVYS4BAEAAB4m3MAc0CtQHaDdo3c52colBoYLA-w

(I have celestial trinkets to switch to if more durability is needed, but that hasn’t really been an issue. I think something like PVT would be more optimal though. )

  • Does just enough damage to ward off any would be gankers to your squishies, as well as taking out enemy squishes that are running away from your melee dudes.
  • Impossible to pick off— adrenal implant, a low duration stunbreak, 1 invul, protection on stunned, melandru runes and -condi food which renders condis a joke unless everyone focuses fire on you, but if they have to resort to that, I see that as a good thing
  • 3 water fields and 3 blast finishers, one of which is one a 5 second cooldown (boo no FT cooldown reduction)
  • Able to adjust to the front or back as needed, obviously this would be less valued in organized groups

I’ve been pretty happy with it thus far. Today, I just realized that about 2 weeks ago, I made another ascended rifle (via Mystic Forge stat swap) for pve and accidentally equipped that instead of my wvw rifle. So I was playing the past 2 weeks on my engi without any sigils.

Remember that FT is mostly used to get through places, so if you spam 1 all the time you will die. Then again, I am not sure what anyone thinks autoattacking through a retaliation equipped frontline does. The 2 skill actually does decent damage; pair it up with orbital strike as you wade through the crowd. Use FT5 to protect yourself as needed. Mortar is used at long range, mostly for support such as water fields, rifle is used for all other situations where FT isn’t needed.

Elixir Gun is an arbitrary skill. It works somewhat with HGH, so whatever. I use it to clear condis off allies and blast myself away with acid bomb to reposition myself; as well as it serving as a psuedo-burst when needed. It can be replaced with Rocket Boots to give yourself the mobility to be frontline, slick shoes for CC support, tool kit for survival, or Elixir U for fun reflects or whatnot. Whatever you do, don’t put Elixir Gun 5 on your regroup, or people will be very angry at you.

Finally, Elixir S is my final way to save myself. The toss elixir S is good for breaking target and making it a bit easier for you to res allies or just blindside someone that’s out of position with an immobilize.

Anyhow, I think the return of 1200 range rifle has made it a lot easier for me to execute this build. I’ve tried all kinds of backline builds but have not been happy with the result, so I’ve been getting the most mileage out of this. Out of all the classes, I’ve found this to be at least the easiest to play, even if it isn’t able to compete with guardian/ele in terms of overall utility. Since I am familiar enough with all classes in zergplay, I decided to aim for something that wasn’t horrifically redundant, so I did not want to compete with anything I could do better on another class.

Wonder why they haven’t added achievements for reaching X rank. It would make more sense to have titles for that as currently WvW rank is merely for your enemies to view or the occasional yellow item.

Yea, Silverwastes is the way to go. If you were to acquire an ascended weapon/armor box you could definitely convert it to the stats you need but this method is so unreliable that you’re better off not depending on it.

Silverwastes will drop materials you need for crafting, or you can just sell them if you don’t wish to wait.

And start putting in buy orders for some of the time gated stuff you need (damask, deldrimor, etc) with excess gold so you can do your farming as those orders fill up. Make them a bit lower than other buy orders. You don’t want to be stuck with enough gold to buy stuff and then having to fill out buy orders and having to wait lest you purchase those at the more expensive sell price.

Rallybots: Rallying off stomped players.

in WvW

Posted by: ArchonWing.9480

ArchonWing.9480

Weren’t they thinking of altering this mechanic in the past? I can’t remember.

I think limiting it is reasonable, as a single death seems to have a disproportionat effect just because a bunch of people happened to tag that person. This also indirectly gives an advantage to classes that are better at tagging as naturally I find myself bouncing up more as a guardian than anything else. Not to mention this indirectly causes me to find builds that cleave more or use fire sigils. 5 is a good arbitrary number because it’s also consistent with the AOE caps. However, I think it should be based on damage— the top 5 get the rally.

Furthermore, “rallybot” has become a derogatory term and is often used to blame new, inexperienced, or just lagging players for a loss. I think it becomes a bit intimidating for newer players if they are aware they can actually make such a huge and catastrophic negative effort to the group especially those that are not geared for enough survival. IMO, that can be a potentially toxic environment.

Planned refund of Candy Corn Gobbler

Not actually sure if it’s a nerf anymore; I used a bunch for reset night last night and it seemed to give around the same amount.

Also…

https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/3gn1l2/new_data_candy_corn_gobbler_500_pieces_of_candy/

I think it has to do with the buffs being combined so you won’t get an individual useless one such as +xp, when you want wxp.

Still, the brief duration make it very hard to use on the go, and this isn’t very convenient; if most boosters seem to be for convenience, this one isn’t.

Hardressing in wvw

ArchonWing.9480

I keep reading the title as “Hairdressing in wvw” lol

Yea really!

I sorta understand that hard-resing is annoying but considering it’s a liability in anything resembling a fair fight due to the risk involved (I’m always dropping AOE on downed already to take out people daring enough to res much less double downed and we’re not really balancing around smaller fights necessarily) I don’t necessarily object to it. Then again, I think only hard-ress’ing out of combat leads to a number of issues including giving an advantage to classes that can get out of combat more easily. Maybe put in a penalty to hard-ressing when in combat only?

I dunno, if I double down anyone in a outnumbered fight, I consider that a win on my part. (well, except on thief, that would just be too mundane to talk about)

How is Tier 3 looking?

in WvW

SBIBL did have a 40+ man queue going for quite awhile but there was always at least 1 map open. You definitely want a small group to roam with during prime time but the rest of the day is surprisingly roamer friendly. Also make sure you bring a good amount of condi removal, there are a crap ton of groups running with venoms and burn guards.

Yea, I was there =p

It’s standard SBI behavior, because they tend to rally around the popular pugmanders. If there’s no commander, then people start running circles in citadel, possibly because they’ve never learned to actually navigate the map on their own although that may be rich coming from someone that dies from fall damage when trying to go to NE tower.

If anything, receiving other groups that will go to other maps has made reset night more bearable for those stuck in queue.

Server Transfer

in WvW

Posted by: ArchonWing.9480

ArchonWing.9480

Personally I enjoy being on DB, only just transferred myself.

Not sure what people are going on about with this whole blob thing and no one fights nonsense, it’s the sorta stuff that happens on all servers…

“That 1 uplevel is hiding in a tower from me god that server is bad they all hide and never fight only blob” is nothing more than juicy tears

This is what Db apologists always say. Sorry, servers are not all the same, they’re not all equal. Yes, all blob, all hide, but some blob more, some hide more. Db blobs most. Db hides most. Db is the worst. Db is the least respectable. Db is truly a terrifyingly bad server, I would rather face any server in the game than Db.

I’m sorry, don’t want to turn this into a “bash Db” thread… I’m just saying you can’t reject criticisms with “oh all do it to some extent!”. All countries have corruption, therefore we’ll say the Soviet Union was no worse than other countries? That logic just doesn’t fly.

I’m not, my opinion was formed by experience over 3 years of pure WvW.

GoM – [WaR]
FA – [uA]
GoM – [RUN]
IOJ – [RUN]
GoM – [RISE]
IoJ – [DOLO]
CD for a week lol
IoJ – [DOLO]
FA – [XIII/RISE/RUN]
DB – [RISE/Turd]

Every server cries the same about the other server doing what they do anyway.
I just spent the last 2 hours roaming EB, only a guildless warrior from BP would fight me solo, otherwise both BP and DH refused to engage me with out superior numbers, even at RQ I pretended to be afk after [sotd]? ported out and 4 people looked at me, edging closer bit by bit till I moved and they ported too…

Every server does it.

Yea, I’d have to agree this kind of thing about “the other server blobs” is kinda overdone. Can we just talk about servers we’re actually on, instead of badmouthing other ones? It comes off as extremely anecdotal.

How about tier 3?

Problem with T3 is that GvGs have moved there. If you are not specifically into that, you will regret going there sooner or later, and that always happens sooner, rather then later.

I’m not into GvGs and am in T3; been fine. The GvGs cause a brief spike in queues for about an hour at most during prime time, which isn’t more than usual plus they usually don’t run on Fri-Sat which means the population rarely runs into conflict, except maybe on Sunday at worst. In any case, the effect is nearly negligible.

You can stop slandering those guilds as a blanket statement or commenting on matchups you aren’t in now, thanks. And that applies to the rest of the fearmongering that has happened as of late.

yet. just wait.

and if what you say is true, then its nothing like it was on T2, maybe a lightbulb went off in some of their heads. on SOS it was many times a week and for far longer periods. So no, as far as am concerned they’re burned until I see them actually do their share for a LONG time. No one has made me think these things about them, except for them.

I’m sorry, but that just comes across as fearmongering to me, because “waiting” is based on speculation and anecdote, and a possible confusion of cause and effect.

I don’t doubt there were more than a few toxic individuals that you describe, and I’m not saying it’s a good thing either. You are definitely free to elaborate more if people here have found the situation worse. From my experience, the group of people you describe can’t be painted with a broad brush, and yes I am aware a lot of people that came here simply don’t care about WvW and will vanish once Guild Halls arrive. I understand your concerns; I just don’t think it’s proper to mark T3 as a disaster zone yet; if anything you folks have scared me with, it’s those “server politics” and “match manipulation” that seems to have a number of complaints.

Well, I hope SoS recovers now that these people are gone though.
