It’s not just that it’s 30 days (you have to log in every day). It’s when it’s placed against its other alternatives. The armor doesn’t exist in a vacuum.
For ascended gear, that’s generally time gated anyways and of a much higher cost so making celestial ascended isn’t that big of an issue.
For exotic celestial, you could probably come up with a mishmash of gear that has comparable use that you don’t have to wait for at all. Celestial isn’t even necessarily better than what it’s competing against. Exotics are largely just stopgaps, and it doesn’t make any sense to be devoting such an inordinate amount of resources and time towards it. Especially when crafting the equivalent ascended wouldn’t take much longer. To me, this is like having timegated green or yellow armor. It has no reason to exist because greens and yellows are either salvage bait or something you slap on yourself because you don’t have better.
A good example is when my ele hit 80. I was thinking of some celestial which I did, but I only had enough to make 2 pieces so at this point I decided just to forego it instead of waiting 2 more weeks just to be able to play my character. Instead I took the opportunity to craft other stats, which helped level tailor to 500 and actually produce something useful for the future. Turned out to be a good idea, since I now have enough charged quartz to make whatever I want. But at least in my case, exotic celestial was always going to be an inferior option. And this is when I had the luxury of having a quartz node.
In any case, I don’t think it hurts to make the charged quartz non-account bound. There will still be a premium on those that refuse to wait, and there’s extra incentive in going out to fuse them.

Alright, experienced some pretty awful skill lag in EB last night. It does really seem like something is up with EB as large fights were in the borderlands without trouble.

I think they should make Charged Quartz Crystals not account bound and can be sold on the TP. This would be like how damask and such are handled ie, paying a premium to go around the time gate.

The thing is they where not testing if ppl wanted free golmes or not as far as we know they where just testing there abitly to drop an event into wvw and to take it out. They even said this and as far as we can tell it worked.
I’m not even referring to finding out if people like golems or not, rather the discussion is now about how to handle events, like the very kind they’re testing. As for it working or not, well, that is indeed just speculation IMO.

@Fogleg: I’m honestly not even sure how that’s related in any possible way, but that’s not always true. This is not to say that if they were to cynically make this game into a revolving door where they just get people to buy gems and kick them out couldn’t be profitable and maybe there are forces that wish for this. But I’ve never seen the game as such for the most part.
From my experience, people that quit the game early don’t buy any gems at all, because why? Why would they spend any extra money on it? On the other hand, I know a number of friends and guildmates that buy gems regularly not because they have no gold but because they want to support the game. I think those customers are very valuable as they may pay way more than the game itself. I don’t buy gems myself but I do still convert gold to gems to get stuff from the gem store. In fact, right now I have 100 gold and 2000 gems because I don’t really have to use gold for most things. Repairs and wvw wps are free while I’ve crafted all the food and stones I’m going to need for quite a long while, so….
As for…
Anet only has to invest enough to prevent too many wvw players wandering off to write negative comments about the game that would scare away new potential buyers.
If that’s the case, then that’s good because they’re going to have to do more than they are.

You certainly don’t “need” any of those things, 15 slot bags were good enough for most of my characters until I bought bigger ones.
I would agree that it is overpriced though. You are paying 400 gems to upgrade a single character’s inventory for 400 gems when a bank tab is worth 600. Apples and oranges I guess but it is annoying. Now maybe if they’re running a sale… cough
for there you have been and there you will long to return.
That sounds awful. I hope you folks get refunds because it was definitely not you were asking for.
I know I would not be happy if something like that happened. It’s fine for them to change it, but it’s not what was initially advertised.
A fairly large aspect of this game is appearance and I feel that more effort needs to be made towards people getting their characters to look the way they want.

Supposedly Orr was supposed to be defined by chains of dynamic events, effectively going from a progression of fixed heart quests to the dynamic events. It didn’t really pan out as anticipated I guess. But if you do think about it, you’re doing the same things in the events as you would for the hearts and they serve the same purpose to give information about the area. At least that’s how I interpreted the wiki’s take:
Zones in the Ruins of Orr region and Southsun Cove do not have renown hearts; instead they have large meta event chains encompassing the entirety of the zone.
I actually think it does go along with what Orr was designed to be though. It is/was currently a warzone, so you’re not here to necessarily learn about the backstory of these places (aside from the occasional historian) like you would for most zones in Tyria as many of them are recently built encampments; you’re here to make your own history.
Of course, the execution leaves much to be desired, but say the temple attacks were actaully a good defining presence in the area.

Because it is war! =p It’s not a duel, a brawl, or a skirmish. It’s 2-3 servers trying to wipe out each other.
Skill lag isn’t usually a problem and it’s not always a given if you’re outnumbered, probably the later is more of an engaging activity. It does lag around SM castle though. I don’t know why.
Personally, I like getting off key reflects/stomps/bursts at an important moment and having these things spell the difference between winning and losing. It’s sorta funny watching a bunch of people explode in either end.

Good post, OP, but I’m thinking you’re using your own experiences a bit too much to color what defines the wants and needs of players. That’s fine because you’re speaking on your own, but it can be a bit hard to understand for some. This doesn’t make your points less valid, but it does weaken the argument somewhat.
The thing is, I am not really sure if “goals” as you stated really have a bearing for most casual players. It’s generally the more hardcore players that spend a lot of time in game in my experience and are generally the ones that are playing the game to reach a certain point, and this is also reflected in general discussion here when people find that they have nothing to do, and thus complain. Then again, this might have to do with that I feel that the so called “goals” in Gw2 aren’t particularly interesting; it’s really just a lot of grinding in many cases. It’s not like many traditional games where you can “beat” the game. So it is not sure if everyone plays the game for that reason. I’ve met players that go “hey, let’s do a fractal because we haven’t done one” vs “Let’s get to flevel 50”. Naturally these things have even less value when referring to people that mostly are into player vs player content which generally is dynamic enough to sustain itself. Ultimately, to me, gold is merely a means to an end, legendaries are just skins, and ascended armor is just a luxury.
There’s no real reason for me to think that they should be a central focus to whatever content I end up doing when they ultimately don’t really add up too much. For example, when I finished all my ascended gear, I pinged it in guild chat, a few people pretended to give a kitten , and then most of the time when I play now, I don’t even remember it. Still, I guess the journey there had some memorable value, but not too much.
That being said, I don’t disagree with the post either. I don’t think rewards and good gameplay are mutually exclusive after all, and pvp reward tracks I say have been a success in that regards. The idea is to have reward tracks run parallel to gameplays as a side quest of some sorts. Besides, wvw does cost gold, and perhaps some people are interested in gem store items that other players can more easily buy. So it could certainly help those people. So I agree with the 9 changes you’re suggesting. My personal opinion would also include the inclusion of a new currency only present in WvW proper, because badges are quite a joke now— you don’t even need to enter WvW or even EOTM because AP chests crap them out.

Not sure if that last part there was sarcasm Archon but I, semi, agree as well (though honestly if I could just take most of it from the inven n’ store it in the bank I’d have more than enough bag space); increased bag space would be amazing though, and why not, we’d be paying for it yeah?
It’s as if they don’t want our moniez no mo…
It’s not sarcasm although I suppose it’s rare for me to not use it. xD I think our current storage limitations are quite outdated given how the game has changed. And I’m lazy and would rather put stuff in my bags then fetching it at the bank.
But yes, if you had more bag space, then it’d obviously be less of a burden on your bank space. And in any case, they make money, and people are happy. So I don’t see a downside unless for some reason there’s some kind of technical limitation.

Well, there’s definitely a lot more crap that can be stored as the game has progressed, so I think it’d be fair to increase the cap. They can make more money off it anyways, so I’m wondering if it may be a technical limitation of some kind.
While we’re at it, we should have more bag space too. I want more than 160 slots in my inventory.

I do rebind my loot key. However, what happens when you have to revive people?
Then you use F. The whole point of the loot key is to make sure you don’t get stuck in longer actions while trying to gather loot in a moving fight. (Also it loots all the bodies near you, not one at a time).
It is still a problem if you’re trying to revive a player and a dead NPC keeps overwriting it, but the OP’s issue was with reviving or chatting when s/he just wanted the loot.
Yea, I gather that but it would seem that looting is just one of the issues and OP would just rather not talk to them at all during combat, because that is just not a good thing in combat.

I would, but this usually has to do with medium (and sometimes light) armor being so boring and lacking in choices at times.

Well, that depends on what time you’re logging on. There’s definitely imbalance during OCX/EU/early NA. But the other problem is that SBI generally has very weak organization at times so sometimes you may not know what’s even going on at times even if there’s quite a few people running around.

Either class works anywhere, but ele is like the best class in gw2 IMO atm due to its sheer versatility, so I would suggest ele to you.
The choice is up to you though. Between the two I use engineer more for wvw in general although I use ele for what one would term “serious blobbing”. There is nothing more easier than staff eles when it comes to zerging. The main advantage of ele over engineer in these scenarios is that are capable of massive ground targeted dps while engineers are screwed over by reflects. In addition, the lightning rod trait his enemies with lightning everytime you disable someone with no cooldown, turning your static field and unsteady ground into really high damaging skills. Plus eles crap out boons and healing. The final killer is probaly the easy chills that eles can toss out.
On the other hand, Engineers can do decent healing but they don’t give out as many boons to your team. Also, they lost healing bombs sadly though at least they have 1200 range rifle by default now. It’s definitely a lot more effort.
Small scale, I think engineer is pretty easy though. Just condi and burn burn burn burn down anything that’s not a mesmer or a necro. Failing that, just abuse your 20s cooldown gear shield.

Siege having people’s names on it I think could be useful. After all, the “initial owner” can repossess the siege at any moment and it’d be nice to know who did it. Plus there are definitely some names I’d trust over others in order to decide refreshing it or not.

T3 NA’s been fine ever since it’s been stabilized after the 4 t2 era ended though it suffered a initial hiccup because DB was apparently screwed by the problem this very topic is about. Please don’t let anyone, especially those that are not on these servers, tell you otherwise.
There are still of course problems in individual time zones though. Of course, many people around here realize that stacking is a MAD aka “mutually assured destruction” concept.

No, you don’t have to pay real money or grind for hours just to get the 80-90 gold it takes.
Technically, you can also delete all your characters to move servers.
If you have enough tomes and badges, all you’d be replacing is runes, sigils, and jewelry. Tomes come naturally with daily rewards. If you’ve gotten a black lion kit somewhere, you may not have to replace most of these.
Also, you can also just convert your laurels to t6s. If you log in every day, you’ll have more than enough gold in 2 months. It’s not like you’ll be doing anything else with the laurels.
Well as I’ve suggested, there should be a discount of a sorts to help people get off their empty servers. Unfortunately, at this point Anet has just failed many communities and I don’t know if HoT would fix it.

Frankly: wvw is in a broken state.
Like I said before: It has been possible for our non TS pug to kill zergs twice our size in the past. We have been able to defend our stuff against zergs. Nowadays it’s all blobs, golems got buffed dwarfing every other siege, T3 can’t withold the amount of players – there basically is not much more than to fight blob with blob or doing GvG as defending is pretty much impossible. I really think that this is the key to make wvw “fun” again. Because people would learn that they can do stuff without being a blob, because not all hope is lost when being outnumbered and because the fights become interesting again.
If you just shovel players into lower tiers without blobs right now, they really get the impression that their server is dead as they can’t withstand the attacks. So people really think they need to be a zerg/blob to do anything in this game.
That is true that it doesn’t matter what price if there is nowhere for you to go to find decent action. But that is an entire truckload of issues that is beyond the scope of this particular issue.
for there you have been and there you will long to return.
Those that " left" didn’t technically leave T1, they still have accounts here. They have multiple accounts, and have one of their accounts stacked on YB to artificially move them up. T2 GvG protested this and are taking over other servers and plan to make SURE those servers do not move up. The GVG guilds are intentionally preventing servers from moving up. That has nothing to do with the changes, the changes only make that easier to do.
You “caring less” doesn’t change the reality of the situation created their actions.
Not really, you guys on NA seem to be rather weird, actually, and I was wondering why it was only the first 8 servers left, yet all you do is the “pirate ship meta”.
Here’s what I think will happen: Those who are sick of the “GvG” actions will move to lower tiers and steamroll the tiers above them – I would do so as I like being the underdog and kicking lazy fat blobs – I hope anet will make that easier by buffing defenses and zergfights (stability changes, damage, condis etc etc) – it has been possible once and I hope it will again.
Come to think of it, maybe I should get another account and help my first server out. That is the opposite of what just happened. The GVG dropped tiers leaving the ppters and are going to force whatever servers they move to to stay in the GvG tier by rigging the wins. The ppters are on locked servers atm.
LOL rigging wins. So that’s how WvW is played on 24/7 coverage servers?
Ah, so the ebilll gvg’ers are going to hold the dead servers SBI, Maguuma, and CD hostage. We won’t be able to move up to t2 because clearly all 3 servers have been pushing to move up to t2.
tl;dr lol
Watch out. He already said it could get ‘nasty’ they don’t want any roamers or ppt’ers on the maps. LOL yea they’ll stay in T3 that way I’m sure
She* and yes, I am sure it will get nasty. Fake gari calls, flaming, dual crashing.. Have you not been to T2? They stay in the tier they wish by predetermining who wins, they ppt just enough to keep them where they want, it really isn’t difficult to do, they have been doing it forever. They can ppt and not ppt at will when they have guilds on all servers in the match helping them.
I don’t think people realize how much different it was between T1 and T2, like different planets.
Ppting to “where they want” is also what happens in t3 as a response to the four t2 servers making t3 unplayable era. It is done for good reason so they aren’t going to have a hard time. That being said, having people try to take over a server is a concern and it could get toxic especially when people don’t care where they are. However atm I am more wary about forces trying to join other servers to prop them up tiers. That seems more scarier than gvgers atm and in the long term there will be guild halls anyways.

This is not good at all for the games longevity. Not only are new players never getting a chance to see the best that wvw has to offer, they are being charged extra for taking Anet’s advice and then only having options for mediocrity. Some players are not being given a choice in the matter at all, as they already locked the servers that do have people to play with 24/7. They are denying them the option to have people to play with at all due to their decision now making it even worse.
What you claim is the best WvW experience is just your opinion. There are 5 servers right now after the change that are full status. That is all of T1 and 2 T2 servers. So basically your opinion is that if a server is not full it is not the best WvW experience..
The reason why the most players play on these servers is because MOST players find having people to play with MORE enjoyable. That is the majority opinion of that being a better experience is WHY the majority of player play there. It isn’t like the majority of player do not have the choice or have not played on lower tiers, they just think that sucks. Most of the players on full servers paid to leave lower servers because they were not having a good experience where they were. If there were no server caps at all, and allowed for more maps to reduce ques, MORE players, not less would move to top tiers as well.
As it is, everyone in higher tiers can move if they want, they choose not to for good reason EVEN if it was free to do so, hell EVEN if they were PAID to do so. LOL
I find it disingenuous that somehow you are able to speak on behalf of the “majority of players”, when all you have are anecdotes and maybe the people you have interacted with and then confusing your opinion with fact. But then again, I think the word “broken” has no meaning on this forum due to overuse.
Do you have information on the various server populations beyond what you have seen in your experience?
Anyhow, some of us like playing “Dead Wars 2”, and given that we’ve had quite a few guilds transfer over this week, I’m guessing they do too, or at least have different priorities.

I always seem to come in here and find something else that’s unbelievably bad has happened. And that’s sort of why I haven’t touched necro much since the specialization patch.
But this is the trend for necro balance. X being op if A, B, C is taken so that’s taken for granted when nerfs happen to X, screwing over builds that do not use A, B, and C.
This is not just necro balance. They just did the same to mesmer and ranger.
Mesmer’s problem was confounding suggestions paired with Mantra of Distraction, and they went in and nerfed mantra recharge, nerfed harmonious mantras coefficient bonus (from 20% to 15%, maintaining 20% required chain spamming mantra of pain and doing nothing else, unlike warrior’s Breserker Power which gives a 20% bonus for just using a 3 bars adrenaline skill every 10 seconds).
Now mantra builds for PvE and any mantra build that wasn’t shatter+confounding suggestions is destroyed to all hell, and the Dueling line has no viable grandmasters anymore for PvE, they’re all terrible.
Same crap with ranger, someone was running quickening zephyr and clarion bond in WvW and constantly switching the pet out of combat to stack the buffs, and instead of only making the skill work in combat, they went in and bludgeoned it to death with humongous internal cooldowns, Clarion Bond now doesn’t even sync with pet swap. Once agains, many other ranger builds nerfed.
Spirits were nerfed for the sake of spvp complaints, never used again in any other format since they were weak there, and their “buff” to said spirits in the patch update actually nerfed them. The “powerful” active effects are a joke and spirits were made immobile despite being just weaker, killable versions of warrior banners.
It’s all very simple. When a class like warrior can bring phalanx strength, a trait that singlehandedly grants the party 25 might stacks, empower allies for 150 power to the group, 170 power/condi damage from banner, 170 ferocity/precision from banner. Warb Banner is just a better, faster ranger’s spirit of nature.
What’s the point of bringing any other classes when warrior, ele, guardian and thief have so much better group utility and damage than the other classes? They all have immense damage and on top of that they give them the best, class exclusive utility.
Well, I don’t really do pve, but that nerf to clarion bond was indeed out of nowhere and really nuked a viable alternative for that slot. I don’t know what they were thinking with spirits either.

Not buying the expansion doesn’t equate to quitting though. =p

Yep, it’s merely a euphemism anyways. Of course with the new system in place for only in a few days I wonder if it wasn’t able to differentiate between “few” and “almost no one”. Doubtful. I’m guessing they didn’t want to lower prices that much. :S
But who cares. It’s just a word, and relatively speaking the low servers are still the cheapest to transfer to. The immediate effect is they’re only 500 gems to go to now.

At work. Can anyone confirm if they stealth fixed the 180 bonus toughness for shield yet?
What shield?
It’s a good weapon. When traited, both skills grant protection, provide knockback, and has some really nice dazes. They also patched the knockback/reflect to not root you.
Oh, this isn’t the engineer forum. It’d be nice if guardians had a shield though.

Why does chilling darkness have a cd? When did this happen?
anet thought it’s too OP with well of darkness, plague, bitter chill and all the chill-related stuff that comes at some day with the reaper. so they made sure noone ever uses it again

That was kinda weird to only remember half of rifled barrels but so far so good.

I was always going to hold off on the expansion, but I don’t like to burn bridges.
Could be a while, could be never, it’s up to them.
This has me curious. Didn’t you, as forum specialist, get selected based on favoritism towards the game and it’s developers? The obvious answer based on this is, no. I see that as a sign of honesty on ArenaNets side, but they really should just listen to the wishes of their customers more, that way people are happy with the game and buy expansions because they want to.
No, hardly. Though obviously if someone is so far gone or too vindictive, they wouldn’t make a good volunteer, nor would anyone that just filters out complaints like the game’s infallible. I usually speak for myself unless otherwise specified. It really has no bearing on what Arenanet’s stances are.
Sure I like the game, but that doesn’t mean buying the expansion is a granted regardless of how I actually feel when I don’t feel there’s enough extra content directed to me.
If anything, I applied for doing this because I would like WvW to be improved to a point where buying the expansion is a good idea. It was a better alternative than to drown in salt.

There should be something lower than “Medium” …. you know like “Empty” for Eredon Terrace and just make transfers free into our server.
I think the reason why ever server seems high or whatever is probably due to the large amount of inactives/non-wvw’ers. Hopefully this will change.
Although the idea that blackouts could be used to exploit the new system is a definite issue. That means the measurements cannot be fickle and be drastically affected by short term movements.

This is all very well but it has no direct effect on those of us whose loyalty is to the Server we chose back in beta. It’s like following a sports team – whether the team is top of the league or fighting relegation makes absolutely no difference to your connection with it. You stick with your team no matter what.
I always thought allowing server transfers of any kind was a mistake but clearly most people aren’t interested in who they play for or support, just whether they win or get good fights or whatever.
Well, maybe people can transfer to yours not just because you aren’t winning but because your community can provide something others can’t. As more and more people buy the game, some may not want to wvw, and as HoT rolls along there’s a chance that some deserving servers might hit “full” status. Those communities should be allowed to grow, receiving players not just from transfers but also from new buyers as well. Certainly, servers that manage to do this deserve better IMO.
But this is only step 1 of course. There’s many other issues in regards, but the main idea is to recognize that in the context of servers, wvw comes first. There can’t be server loyalty without the concept of a server itself, I say.
