WvW Reward Tracks?

in WvW

Posted by: ArchonWing.9480

ArchonWing.9480

I think the current pvp rewards system is well designed to attract potential pvpers to try out the mode more with specific focuses and targets.

The WvW rank system does exactly the opposite, IMO. It’s aimless and often forgettable. You get titles that only your enemy sees and probably doesn’t care about anyways.

I would suggest on talking about the how if you want one.

The big issue is the main strength of the old cele rifle builds was the burning from incendiary powder which has moved to the firearms tree.

There’s also a lot of ridiculous dps going on as well.

Spirit shards and superior siege

in WvW

Posted by: ArchonWing.9480

ArchonWing.9480

Ever since this thread was started, I have picked up one spirit shard as a drop, and they seem pretty scarce from champ bags. Mostly been getting them from dailies.

Because you don’t get them for leveling up as with skill points unless you use a tome with a level 80, it would seem a lot harder to make siege.

I haven’t made siege en masse for a long while because the mystic forge interface is too annoying, but I think if I were to make say, 10 a day, I would be having trouble in about 2 months from now. I have 690 atm.

Toughness vs Vitality for Guardians

in Guardian

Posted by: ArchonWing.9480

ArchonWing.9480

Mostly toughness, with some vitality as a baseline to buffer condis and other unexpected events. Healing power is good if you can fit it in, but most of the time I’d rather not.

I usually don’t find condis a problem if going for a tankier build.

Running this for wvw zergs; nothing too special and is almost the same thing pre-patch except with more condi clear.

I find renewed focus too important for dealing with massive damage, and not to mention the stab uptime.

If you need more defense, replace one of the zerker trinkets with a celestial or cleric one. I’m considering bringing back a celestial amulet since dodge heals are so weak now.

Also consider communal defense if other guardians run strength in numbers.

The worst is that they slapped mortar in the face so fast too.

It was like saying “Grenades screwed up, but you’re taking the hit for them!”.

To be fair mortar was doing far too much damage, a full dire engi was able to hit rather hard considering how little power they really had. Of course that doesn’t explain them not touching Grenade Barrage yet… Hmm, considering what they said about other skills they also ‘nerfed’ around same time, they may have intended to lower the damage all along but couldn’t have it ready and tested by the patch, so it came in a hotfix later… That would explain a lot.

I am a bit confused as to why they didn’t disable grenade barrage until they fix it, and have now discovered there are other traits for other classes that really should be disabled and fixed asap. I know Anet doesn’t want to disable skills/traits etc., and may not be able to do so without it going in a patch which with the effort needed for that might as well just fix it first. But how broken a few things are, and how things are being exploited, is a serious issue.

Thing is, people are abusing some of the bugs for personal gain under the pretense of ‘testing’. Sure, I can see how it could be funny a few times for grenade barrage, and then it would just get old and dumb. However, with some bugs, it’s getting to the point Anet may need to set examples on the more egregious situations since players can’t seem to behave themselves while Anet fixes things.

Personally, I think the mortar nerf was a bit too much. Then again, I still use it because I never used it for the AA that much; I mean engineers have so many things coming off cooldown at any moment that I would never need to spam the AA anyways. I also would understand if the AA was too good, then there would never be a reason to use any other AA.

Still, I agree disabling grenadier would have been a quick fix— I mean, we already do get 3 nades by default and a not as nerfed mortar would have been a good stopgap, but there you have it. (And where’s my rifled barrels?) And we have ridiculously broken stuff in all 3 game modes, including those guardians overruning doors. :S

Hey, remember when they made Teq more “difficult”, and all that was a HP buff. I can only imagine what the community would do if there was truly more difficult content.

Hey remember when Teq first came out and everyone was up in arms about how impossible the encounter was and that no one could ever complete it unless they were the best of the best? Then it was made easier, and everyone was up in arms about how stupid easy it was and that it wasn’t challenging. Then they made it harder and everyone is up in arms about how impossible it is to complete unless you are the best of the best?

Good times….good times….

(Whether you want to admit it or not, adding HP makes the time limit that much more crucial, thus harder — it’s like giving someone a test with no time limit versus giving someone a test with a time limit — the one with a time limit is much harder-- it adds significant pressure and forces you to properly manage your time, versus being able to take your sweet time on each problem)

Ah, well, until we have more people that see a spike in difficulty as a challenge to overcome and not something to be fixed, we may have more of such content. The new teq was definitely shocking and our organized run finished it with a mere 2 minutes left but then again I was like “oh dear, we could have failed!” which is something that rarely happens in open world and it was slightly more exciting as I had to screw around less.

Honestly, I think Teq is a great fight. Something like Triple Wurm is just too attention demanding and complicated for casuals like myself but it probably does have a place for more hardcore players.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Kicking someone for being an necro without explicitly stating “no necro” is incredibly rude or specifying whatever classes are needed. Obviously if the thing demands a guardian and you join with a necro, then that’s your fault. Otherwise, it’s just bad communication. And yea, I think it’s rude to join a zerker run without zerker gear as well.

AP requirements are dumb as well; I know people with only like 2k AP but are able to duo Arah fairly simply which is better than anything I could manage; considering that the amount of achievements that actually require skill is so small…

How are necros in dungeons after the changes though?

maybe dont spam when the domes are up… feedback is on a pretty high cooldown so im sure u will find a way to avoid it…

I doubt OP and friends are dying because a single mesmer is putting up feedback. A few of them would keep the domes up for a long while. I’m pretty certain they’re already slowing down when they see the reflect damage. The problem is not just with feedback either, though it’s certainly more ubiquitous with it because it’s casted on you as opposed to other reflects. I just don’t think friendlies should be able to confuse their own allies.

Point is, given the chaos of most fights of more than 5 people, the game should make it clear what’s hostile and what’s not. It does an excellent job with the grand majority of other skills in this game and even in the chaos of particle effects and red circles everywhere I can generally identify the worst threats.

As a side note, I really hate trying to pick up enemy FGS’s. :p

Mostly wvw…

1.) Nades are annoying to use as I was used to the longer range. However, this is just my bias because I’ve always hated the kit and if it weren’t so darned good for damage in all 3 game modes, I’d never put it on my bar. They are insane in pve though.

2.) I’ve been using mostly mortar in wvw for ranged in zergs. It’s annoying to aim like nades but the support is nice. Otherwise, it’s just crate.

3.) FT for the stability. I don’t use bomb kit, and the death of the heal bomb didn’t help either. I’ve always tried to fit EG somewhere in, if possible.

4. http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=V_;4cPVi0i6;1x0;9;4jlm;0246157137;4UN0;36TsW6TsWn-Fq3;60f2A5f7AAfCf-o-G-2i;5FYDuF2Cu;9;9;9;9;84-6m Zerg build, ft for stability, damage is naturally weaker due to the mortar nerf sadly, but otherwise it’s the most survivable thing I’ve run since the patch across all classes.

5. No

6. No, although I may try Elixir H with HGH as mortar already provides a water field.

7. It’s terrible and inferior to its alternatives. It wouldn’t even be worthy of the first slot. Why couldn’t they just have done a 20% cooldown reduction? Right now, it’s even worse than the old gadgeteer and I can’t remember anyone taking that either.

1. “Feel my Wrath” is just really strong, though for larger groups in which I face too much CC, I resort back to Renewed focus— I don’t mind it since I get everything I used to have and more— namely, PoV, Courage, AH, and AR although the dodge heals will be missed…

2. Nothing too spectacular, the traits don’t have much variety, especially in honor.

There will be guild halls in the future, although I don’t know if those will facilitate reset-rally sitautions appropriately.

I can’t recall if it’s possible to just spam the button on the WvW menu instead of using the portal, but an alternative change is to adjust the way people enter WvW on reset. If they made it so you didn’t have to be at the actual portal, that might make it a bit more convenient for people.

At least there is a waypoint by the guild bank now. I’m not sure why they’re intent on only having one of those things around. Hell, they don’t even have one in the citadels, which is insane, although you can use that guild registrar trick to access a jumbled up version of it.

You can use the menu, but the problem is that the reset time seems to vary. Sometimes it’s at :05 and last night it was almost :20

Any form of spam could be pretty tiring.

Request: Rainbow Dye for Marriage Equality!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ArchonWing.9480

ArchonWing.9480

All people want is representation. I’m not saying rainbow dye is the absolute best way to do it, though it doesn’t hurt. But when almost all you see in media is one specific type of person, when there’s so much incredible diversity in the world, it becomes, well. A bit of a downer to be in one of those marginalized groups. You know what marginalization means, yes?

Yes, as a Puerto Rican male that has been slammed against a car by 5 white cops for having the “audacity” to walk through Spanish Harlem on a Saturday morning, I know full well what it is to be marginalized, tyvm.

As someone who’s had a gay friend jumped and beaten simply because they were gay, i know what its like to see people hurt due to another ignorance.

As someone who is frankly terrified for his 2 young daughters and the world that still insists on dictating to them what their gander can and can’t do, i get it. Really I do.

Here’s what you seem to be missing from my statement above, and that is, I don’t mind it when it is meaningful or helps in some way with the plot, etc. I genuinely liked the Marjory/Kas thing, not only because they are a couple, but because they actually touched upon the fact that not everyone in this world of Tyria is necessarily OK with it. THAT is a good way to put a social message in the game without beating people over the head with it.

In Last of Us, the info gleaned about Bill and his partner was very well done and was full of feels, and they way it was all delivered in game was done in such as way as to make it both meaningful without being preachy.

Simply adding X group into a game or X message into the game because they have some some kitten in their lives, and then doing so as a dye in support of, or some other we put this here cuz reasons, frankly cheapens the message and the issues they actually deal with day in and day out. it trivializes the whole thing and makes Anet look more like they are saying “look at us! we’re inclusive!” So what?

maybe they need to put in a mini pet llama with a “Save Tibet” banner over its back. Oh wait, no, they can’t do that if they want to still sell the game in China.

Not to mention the act of doing so means nothing outside of the game and ultimately amounts to naval gazing.

Anet has already shown their support loud and clear for the LGBTQ community time and time again, and its great, but everyone and everything doesn’t need to have their own personal soap box in the game. This isn’t the capitol square of Madison, WI on a Saturday morning where every group, big and small, needs to come out with their banners. Save it for the real world.

Nailed it nicely, I think. It is fine to be inclusive, but you have to do it with meaning and not do it just because, otherwise it’s little more than lip service.

Sea of Sorrows

in WvW

Posted by: ArchonWing.9480

ArchonWing.9480

And yes, this has been marked as one of the more pressing issues in WvW, and the near future.

I’m hoping this is solved in a constructive manner. While they are currently on top in the tier, FA had this exact problem about a year ago.

Sea of Sorrows is not competitive in terms of points; but we do maintain a high skill level in players. I hope that someone looks at this as an opportunity to try out their skills as a commander, or an experienced commander wanting to take on a new challenge.

We have good off-hours coverage and some people working hard and playing hard in off-times; we just need some people with good attitudes, patience, yet a who love a good fight to join us and get the ball rolling.

If your concern is that I’m just going to tell our Anet folks that “SoS is not winning teh PPT, must fix or they’ll die!”, rest assured I’m not that naive and I understand there may be those that treat PPT as a necessary evil to maintain the status quo so we can have fun and fights and you can’t really measure that unless you’re actually there. (At the very least, t3 has that as a common mindset, at least as an ideal, what actually happens is another topic.) Though of course, I’m not going to simplify everyone’s motives for playing or what they consider fun, that would take forever to write anything exhaustive.

Still, I consider the full situation a potential problem which may limit the growth of otherwise deserving communities. The other problem being that the megaservers may limit intraserver communication if you may want to encourage people that pve only to try out WvW.

It is entirely possible and commendable that your community will be able to work around these issues; that’s none of my business actually as long as you guys stay in t2. :p Most servers have their own voice chat and website going and it’s worked out well for many, but but I do believe Anet should also do their part to help out with what I would term community building. Right now, even something as simple as gathering all of one’s servermates in Lion’s Arch is a cumbersome experience.

Glad they finally realized this as I’ve been trying to push this point for the longest time. And in WvW where the biggest disconnect between theory and practice is where it’ll be the worst.

I understand they wanted to pack a punch by making so many changes, but this thing called playability is extremely fragile. Though it’s definitely made worse by the bugs or unintended behavior that have taken place.

Attempting to combine all 3 modes for balance just won’t work, nor is pretending such an issue that isn’t a problem.

“WvW isn’t meant to be balanced. WvW isn’t meant to be balanced. WvW isn’t meant to be balanced”

That is correct. Organized zergs generally don’t have to peddle their supply that carefully, but it does exist. On my server, some pugs aren’t even grabbing supply so it gets a bit more annoying. In EOTM, people just concern themselves with making gold, so superior siege would be used at a loss.

Regular siege costs less supply! This is quite useful when you only have like 2-3 people and not everyone has supply capacity maxed. I would never toss a superior in those cases unless it’s one of those rare "every point matters’ matchups which is rare.

Not to mention those situations where say, the outer keep gate is half down and building a superior would be overkill, and you have to break in inner.

Superior siege is overpowered and should be harder to get if I think about it. Makes commanders think twice if they waste guild catas and superior rams for everything even if there is barely any defenders.

I disagree with this notion. This would increase the gap between haves and have nots because it would not affect the people with lots of resources to acquire it anyways. Just look at Guild catapults, for example; my guild isn’t even dedicated to wvw but we can pull out a bunch on demand. As for pugmanders, they reap so much from trains and loyal followers donations that it would barely make a dent.

If it’s truly that overpowered, it should just be flat out nerfed. No point in beating around the bush.

It’s kind of pointless to share it now since it’s dead, but I will miss it, and truth be told I had it so long I didn’t pay attention to the actual specs after a year or so (if you don’t change something you tend to forget the names, etc). Maybe I can find a hybrid of the hybrid and play around.

Please don’t call me or anyone else out. Not only is it against the forum rules, but trying to draw attention to your own set of issues isn’t fair to everyone else that’s speaking for themselves. It’s also annoying. I can’t and won’t offer any such special treatment and besides, I don’t speak for Arenanet. But since this conversation is going somewhere, I guess I’ll speak for myself…

The issue of ascended progression is a hot button topic especially for alt-heavy people (and account bound is STILL annoying as hell to swap around and IMO not a sufficient solution), and had they stuck with their gears to raise it to 10% I would have it higher in the priority list, but as it stands it remains an non-critical, though still existent issue.

The backpiece issue I just don’t see as a gigantic one because you can craft a cheap exotic backpiece for a few gold and it is better than comparable exotic backpieces even considering it can only take a l65 thingy. It’s also the most marginal increase of stats. Furthermore, the backpieces that require relics are connected directly with pve content— so naturally it’s going to have to require pve. My server didn’t die when I went to get Mawdrey; I don’t think any individual is THAT important unless they all go out to pve. In any case, 5/8 of my characters are using those crafter backpacks.

I think it’s fair enough to suggest ways to obtain a wvw ascended backpiece and earrings (I think earrings are annoying as well). And badge gear I would say is in a bad shape atm as well.

As for the pvp/wvw thing. Well, PvP was designed to be a competition with normalized builds and wvw ultimately, as much as a lot of us would hate to say it, is ultimately connected to pve or else they would have never had pve gear in here in the first place. Are the rewards for WvW crap? Yes, yes, they are. I don’t really care too much since I still am churning out more ascended pieces and the only real pve I do these days is Teq and quick dailies (and not even that much anymore). So for gearing status

Guardian- full asc, although alternate roaming set is like 2/6 asc armor.
Engineer- 4/6 exotic armor, rest asc. Interestingly, one of the armor pieces was found
Necro Exotic armor, rest asc
Ele- Exotic armor, earrings & back, rest asc
Ranger- Exotic armor, bp, secondary weapons, rest asc
Thief- Exotic armor except for asc chest,(found, omg) bp , rest asc)
Warrior- Exotics except for rings
Mesmer- Exotics except for rings

Does it matter? Of course, and I’ve complained about this in the past, but I wouldn’t really call it a game breaking issue. Yea, I know I could go to SW and grind legendaries, but then what?

Could it be better? Of course; it always can.

Spirit shards and superior siege

It is my honest opinion that the current process of producing superior siege is outdated, especially taking in the new system in context. You have to create them ONE at a time; of which it is pretty absurd. So it is my unfortunate assessment that wvw was not taken into account.

What would be some reasonable ways to tackle this?

To compensate for the harder to obtain shards, would it be reasonable to change the pricing, to say 1 shard for 2-3 guides, sell for badges, or allow it be possible to craft them— perhaps we could get some wvw specific crafting siege materials.

How I would do it:

> New Recipe(s) for Artificer
5-10 T5 wood (depends on siege-type)
5-10 T5 metal (depends on siege-type)
1-5 T5 fine crafting materials (choose the currently cheaper ones, to push their price on the TP)
1-5 Siege blueprints (depends on siege-types)

There you go, the artificer is now able to craft high amounts of siege, for roughly the same price, with just a few clicks, without any artificial cap.
Since all resources are available on the TP, it’s a players choice if he rather spends silver or honor badges on his blueprints.
This courages using superior siege, eases the constraints on a commanders purse or clicking-fingers, and will make the lifes of those who supply the TP with siege a lot easier, while also increasing the amount of silver that T5 farming can earn you.
And it makes sense lorewise in light of the upcoming changes as well, since the new profession, the “scribe”, will be able to craft guild-siege anyways.

So you want to push t5s as a substitute for shards? Sounds interesting, this game should really reduce the risk of RSI more, honestly.

As a side note, I noted the my builds changed when I went into wvw, and noted it said “specialization— wvw”. That’s a nice subtle change if it’s true that we have pve builds and wvw builds being separate so no more accidentally going in with a pve build! Though gear swapping remains a potential issue.

So I’d like it if people were to double check their builds.

FT/juggernaut is great for zerg diving in wvw. The pulsing stability outweighs the toughness there greatly, and might is usually not a problem in these cases. Interestingly enough I have taken a lot of retaliation damage but have not died to it but this is because I switch to something else after getting through the tough bits and not just 11111 on it.

Unfortunately, the damage has definitely gone south in other situations and the lack of a cooldown reduction makes your support less effective, so it may have died in pve.

Actually I read strength of the fallen wrong. That’s basically the old purity combined with the downed trait. That’s not too awful though naturally medi builds would be better with smiter’s boon.

Well, every time a new toy is put out, there’s a surge of people trying it out. Rapid fire patch was a good example of it.

Yet another “full” server issue when it doesn’t correlate to the pve population. While only some of the servers are full, please don’t ignore this even if your server isn’t full because I expect it to become an even worse problem with some servers with large pve populations as well as the inability for servers to “mobilize” their pve populations due to all maps being megaservers. So it’s not merely an issue of recruiting/buying/stacking but merely just communicating with the people that are already there on your server. And yes, this has been marked as one of the more pressing issues in WvW, and the near future.

Sorry, but for all of the wvw problems I just don’t see this as high priority with the fixed wps. I can agree to disagree though…

what is the point of a fixed wp when there is no TP, guild bank and bank near it? LOL
You have to wp all over the place just to get what you could with one wp before.

Yeaaaa… this new Lion’s Arch is less efficient than the “broken” one. What gives?

Now that it’s mutually exclusive with AH/MF, are people really going to take it?

Valor seems to be in a pretty bad spot with a truly atrocious adept choice. I wonder if the 2 extra traits will help.

On the good news, I still have 16k health left, so I guess life doesn’t suck yet. No more guard stacks though.

I haven’t logged on yet, but have they fixed the wp that’s closest to the wvw portals. Yea, I know Living World and stuff but the fact it was mostly inconveniencing wvw’ers is a bit annoying.

Also, Lion’s Arch should really not be megaservered, but that is only my opinion.

Once upon a time WvW was place where u played with your team, helped you team, played for win, where u fought and killed reds with your team members. Now all i see is WvW turning into personal battlegrounds for individuals where team players are liability.

This still happens.

I just hope that people who dont want to play wvw can take thier duels, gvg’s, scrimms to some other place like guild hall arenas and leave wvw to those that want to play it like it was meant to.

“Duels, gvgs, scrimms” are not mutually exclusive with the above. Attempting to fracture the community will weaken it. Attempting to vilify people that do these things is dishonest.

There is nothing to give back, and nobody to give it back to. WvW is meant for all people with a copy of Guild Wars 2 with an account in good standing. Attempting to claim otherwise is selfishness and also futile. I am glad Arenanet is moving along with the flow, and reaching out for ways to expand its game mode beyond its original intentions to fit the development of the player base. They are not taking anything away from anyone, rather they are adding more things for people. Whether or not people appear in wvw is up to their own choice regardless if they fit anyone’s definition of playing.
