Making mawdrey was a great investment. You get a ascended backpiece and also the ability to transfer bloodstone into something less useless.
However, I recommend against refining all of them for the sake of keeping them because the reagent thingies cost quite a bit and also use up obsidian shards. You’re basically paying an average of 35s per stack + 5000 karma to so you can store trash. This is a ripoff and I do not recommend carrying more bricks than you need ascended armor. I understand that some may be afraid that it’ll be useful in the future, but honestly, when it’s hindering yourself right now when you could be doing more useful stuff like maybe investing in stuff with actual value and filling your bank with those instead.
You’ll most likely not be able to use it all anyways unless you are rich and don’t mind keeping all the space.
I just delete my dragonite personally. It comes too frequently. Mawdrey and Star take care of the rest. I have like 1.5 ascended armor sets and a half dozen ascended weapons. Have just enough bricks/other stuff to finish the set or to make another weapon or two, which I don’t feel the need to rush. I’ve never been like “wow, I don’t have enough bloodstone dust left!” As a rule of thumb, I do not allow more than 3500 units of any (combination of individual dust + bricks which count for 100) t7. It simply gets deleted.

Well, that’s the sad thing about gathering raw materials— most of it isn’t usable. You might really just get a single plank out of a tree.
Please, think of the environment.
In b4 global warming event.
Abusive chat I’ve seen has been relatively mild compared to elsewhere on the internet. Though interestingly I see more abusive chat in wvw and pve when people aren’t playing the way others want. For example, yesterday a chest train in the Silverwastes was called some very unpleasant names because most people didn’t feel like defending. In PvP, it’s the occasional trash talking, but it’s by and large passive aggressive talk about other people’s skills which is par the course for anything really. I do find it funny the worst comes from your “allies” though.
(edited by ArchonWing.9480)
Sometimes they do, but there’s no obligation to babysit when 1/2 the pugs aren’t on TS and will suicide into the lord’s room.
Thanks guys. Manning the siege helped me get my dailies. xD Not sure if it was the same pack of siege yesterday, but there were a lot of Ballistas.
What would be even funnier is if we had like 10 engineers place traited turrets (I once got daily defender from doing that. ) at the camp too and sleep in spawn. Sadly they expire in a few min so there would be need for rotation. And you’d need to have like 10 minionmancers and a guardian giving retaliation. Of course that runs under the assumption there’s more than 10 people in SBIBL, and as we know that’s merely a dream.

It is still 2/5. Change the thread title.
It’s utterly stupid that such a simple concept (majority kick) isn’t in yet. 3/5 is ideal because someone might not be paying attention or not know how it works. But any less than that and you get stupidity like 1 person being able to kick the other out of a 2 person party. Come on, I know our educational system doesn’t teach math well these days, but I sure hope simple fractions are still common knowledge.
Of course, it’s been months since this problem was first brought up, so if there’s an empty answer, I won’t be surprised. In fact, if they just flat out told me “we condone having a minority ruin the whole party for kittens and giggles” that’d probably be for the best.

One word of warning … if you buy the cheapy armor with badges (or weapons) … those are one way tickets. You cannot sell, salvage or mystic forge those. So I wouldn’t buy those if I was to put expensive runes/sigills in there …
By the time you finish ascended armor to make those exotic armor obsolete, the majority of runes will be cheap in comparison.
I agree with Badge armor though. Those cost gold anyways and thus with a few exceptions like zerker aren’t even that much cheaper than their gold counterparts. Garbage.
Since ascended weapons are more of a priority, I also agree to not put expensive sigils in those because exotic weapons would be more likely to be replaced first.
Karma armor will also work too if you have 252k, and doesn’t come with the gold cost.
Meh, I don’t like it ever since they enforced “leaving DS makes DS always on cooldown”. Before you could briefly go out and back in Death Shroud to continue going along with stab. That was great because you could stay in DS with only brief interrupts, and have your enhanced life force pool. You’d have decent stability uptime which could offset the loss from no Death Perception. Now, giving up Death Perception is just not worth it. So now, you have to be not in DS to give yourself stability. So that makes it a terrible contradiction; you’ve gone 6 points in a tree to boost your use of Death Shroud… only to not use it!

In WvW, support guardians exist only in large group settings, where balance is largely irrelevant because it becomes a numbers game. Beyond this, most “support” comes in the form of elementalists providing water fields, which are then blasted for area heals. Guardian’s party healing skills are terrible, and until healing power is improved to actually be effective they will stay terrible.
The most important support abilities from raid guardians are 1) Stability 2) Power stacking and 3) Condition cleansing.
I do agree that they lost some of their appeal as support -specially in PvP, where some other classes can tank as good while providing better damage-, but in large groups at WvW they are still very relevant. You can run a raid of 20 only guardians and melt everything in your path just pressing staff 1. The reson due the meta is GWEN is because not overyone has/likes to play a heavy character.
Yea. While numbers are the dominating factor in wvw, a proper composition will easily overrun equal numbers and possbily larger numbers of an imbalanced composition and a good amount of guardians tend to be needed while you might only need a small amount of skilled eles/necros
(edited by ArchonWing.9480)
Everyone without good stab should party with 1-2 guardians. That’s just how it goes. WvW zergs is a team effort, and trying to cover all corners on your own is gonna fail anyways.
It’s generally really tough to mix modes with a single set, generally you’d make ascended for the mode you do absolutely the most.
But if I was forced to pick, zerker can work due to it being best in pve, and also possible to do wvw on necro/ele, but it can be rather difficult as your positioning must be top notch. But since you do fractals, it’s likely you can make up for it with the trinkets you get if needed.

While the old dailies were generally possible to achieve for many people playing their “regular” gameplay; that was more of a pve thing. I don’t think this was that true for wvw/pvp players all the time. This system runs the opposite, where pvp players generally can get the dailies through usual play, and wvw players can usually get it. This is usually because their achievements aren’t too specific… except the profession one which people complain about, and that actually does cause problems. Which ironically means if we consider your point that if dailies are there to make you do stuff that you normally wouldn’t do, that it sort of fails in two aspects of the game then!
When I say “you” I’m referring to “PvE players”. ArenaNet wants people to play PvP and WvW, they don’t really need to incentivize the PvP and WvW players to play PvE.
I would say they’ve done a good job on the pvp part and thus those sets of dailies are in a good spot. But I always thought of dailies as encouraging people to play content from day to day.
I like being asked to volunteer on a Heart of the Mists map.
Too specific and too few options in each category. You get 4 options and need 3 of them for the completion, but what if 2 of those options aren’t a good fit for someone? What would it hurt to have say, 8 options for each category? There’s a better chance then that someone would find their needed 3 dailies for completion.
It would also be great to be able to do dailies in whatever zone I’m leveling in on a given day, too. Pulling out an 80 I’m not wanting to play right now for a zone that is too high for alts can be a pain.
If they gave you more options, then you could get the AP without participating in the type of content they want to incentivize you to participate in, which would defeat the purpose of the daily AP.
That’s why you won’t see additional options added. It’s not supposed to be a “Log in>Play by Myself>Collect Reward for no extra effort” type thing, but rather a “Log in>Play with Others> Collect Reward”.
The old dailies gave you a lot of options, making completing them so easy and convenient that you didn’t actually have to do anything other than what you normally did. The old system was therefore completely ineffective at achieving the goal of having players try other types of content. The new system limits options in order to make it mandatory that you leave your comfort zone if you want the daily AP.

Saying something is optional is sometimes a valid argument. It’s based on downplaying the significance of a situation, but what happens is that this argument runs sideways. If people are being overly dramatic in proportion (ie. GW2 is a terrible game and I’m going to cut myself because of this offense.) then that makes sense. So yes, in many ways it is pointing out a fault in the attitude of the complaint. Indeed, when only AP are at stake, it really does not make sense to blow it out of proportion and it’s really up to the complainer to bring up the significance of it— aka what kind of loss it causes them to suffer, or nobody really cares.
On the other hand “Go play wvw” or [insert alternative here] is a useful bit of advice, but it doesn’t really help the situation. In fact, you’re not even really refuting anything. What one should do is justify the dailies being arranged as such in pve from a gameplay perspective, not deriding people’s abilities to teleport to a ruin.
“Your bananas look moldy!”
“Go buy the apples, you ingrate! "
And yes, I “deal with it”. But dealing with somethin doesn’t make it right, or immune from criticism.

Despite the megaservers, SBI still holds a lot of pve events and people thought megaservers would end all of that due to us being a pvx server… not true. So yea, communities and stuff still exist. So, no I don’t really care for all this merging and crap… yet. Certainly, this server isn’t a hardcore wvw one but it did help to be into most aspects of gw2.

I’m pretty much new to pvp, but if the engi isn’t there, couldn’t you just decap the point and go on to something else? He could knock you back a few times with the turrets, but unless he comes back, you’d decap it without killing the turrets. I’ve had success in my nub unranked games with guardian hammer (ring of warding/immobolize/banish) to remove the engineer long enough to decap. I’ve also tried to play a bit as a turret build too. It’s great and all when they come at you one at a time but when they start to come 2-3 at once your ally would have to really come fast to carry you out of this mess. Also, if your allies get overwhelmed, you can’t really help them.
So it’s really good at 1v1’ing melee classes (rangers just tear apart the turrets— kittens), but every engineer build can do that already.
Also, why the heck would you attack a point as a soldier guardian? I guess take wall of reflect when you see an engie on the other team?
(edited by ArchonWing.9480)
Well, less perfect body types would be something. I should be a short balding fat guy if needed.
That’s not a bad idea for small groups. I would trade force of will for Altruistic Healing though.
Zerker is always good. I suggest to get that first and get others as you see fit.
Look at the rest of your stats. For zergs, once you hit around 30% crit chance, you may want to consider cavaliers. (toughness), or if not, knights is also a good choice. Toughness tends to be what keeps me up the most. If your HP is very low (<15k) you may want to consider soldiers, valkyrie, or celestial.
Personally, I’ve taken to using amulets to customize my stats. They have the biggest effect on stats, and also cost the least for ascended trinkets.

Ah, I’ve just been looking at spots where I can 2v1 people and getting away with that. The teams I’ve played with, we generally stick together and kill loners.
Though funny enough the projectiles are so slow, that you can simply outstrafe people and win as such. Of course don’t do anything silly like solo 3 people.
Brisbane Wildlands is an awful, awful zone. I have not done an event daily ever since they had those new dailies
Better than Snowden Drifts, you could just camp the Tangle Root area too.
Snowden Drifts is poor too, but I just like navigating the zone more. Brisbane is just like an annoying mess of trees and steep slopes.
Most of my characters don’t even have access to most of that area except a straight beeline for the new zones.
OP your title made me think no, but after reading your post, I think that’s a good idea. >.>
Also hostile devs sound hilarious. Totally for it.
I don’t know why fractals aren’t pve….
However, the better argument is that these two things are overlapped. We have a fractal daily and a higher fractal daily. IMO, the more specific one should be removed or not allowed to coeexist.
The other feeling is they really should change it back to region specific events. Brisbane Wildlands is an awful, awful zone. I have not done an event daily ever since they had those new dailies
I have to admit I usually do pvp/wvw dailies a lot more these days. The former two really come by just playing but the pve ones are pretty annoying. My opinion is that the wvw/pvp dailies are great, the pve aren’t. Perhaps we should have a universial daily that doesn’t change like “daily recycler”.
This comes from someone that often scores 5-6 dailies just for the little chests at times. because I play all 3 game modes. Yes, I know that I don’t have to do pve dailies, but they are definitely inferior to the others.
(edited by ArchonWing.9480)
Oh, that’s sorta interesting at least. I’ve just been 1 spamming most of the time.
Why would it come back? This isn’t Dragon Bash. Did the other food like Koi cakes come back?
The food isn’t even that good for its price.
I think the problem is that it that it seems better to let people come at you and hide until you have a decisive advantage; should put something in the middle to fight for.
I sorta laughed. While your initial weaponset wasn’t optimal, it’s funny your friend told you to take something even worse. =p
I would say just take greatsword with sword/focus. Replace the sword if you feel the need to range enemies. Take retreat/save yourselves. For the third utility, I usually just take purging flames so I don’t get slowed down by condis placed on me by enemies that I already killed. When you start getting traits, 2 into honor so you can keep up swiftness with shout recharge, 2 into zeal for fiery wrath, and then 2 into virtues for unscathed contender. Retreat + Unscathed contender/fiery wrath will make things much easier

I really hated how slowly you move.
And yes, I did that heart. I wouldn’t really miss it if there was some other task you could do.
Rangers are a lot better than before, and definitely are useful as snipers though in blob fights they still aren’t considered standard issue.
I find it a really silly complaint of getting sniped by one, because that is the point of a longbow ranger. This is wvw, and it’s not just about a single person being shot down. So you get distracted/cc’d and got bursted down by someone else that took advantage. It doesn’t really mean anything about anybody’s abilities.
And I leave behind this silly anecdote, because ranger jokes are always popular.
“lf2m”
— no response
“lf2m 2 guards in party”
— no response
“lf2m 2 guards in party 0 rangers”
— gets a lot of join requests.

Our server is amusingly resilient for this reason, and it’s often been the unfortunate t3 server for the longest time that got stuck with a server that should be t2. We eventually dropped a bit because of internal issues, and came back up to t3 last week because someone killed the overgrown grub, which is kind of like dividing by 0. As expected we were defeated by enemies that were much more numerous and skilled than us (barely holding on to our garrison if even that), but we still managed to queue a map every day. I found that funny because we usually don’t queue anything by Monday.
A lot on our server are just casuals that blob EB, and play wvw to take Stonemist castle while getting some bags along the way. So we tend to play exactly the same regardless of blowout or not. Of course, if we were to go in for the long term which is entirely possible, that would have negative effects.
This is hardly a brag and definitely I would say our current environment isn’t the one that would grow a serious wvw scene, but it does have its advantages at times and when we manage to put up fights even without a proper GWEN train on this server and an estimated 25% uplevels/bearbow rangers/pve builds.
Who really cares about the score when a lot of it is based of when you’re not on?
A lot of the server stacking is player driven, but Anet is definitely responsible for their neglect of wvw, which greatly discourages people. One can only hope the expansion will bring people back, and they will find ways to change a stagnant game mode.
(edited by ArchonWing.9480)
Ele is generally top notch in all aspects of the game, so that’d probably be more flexible. Guardian is the best in large scale wvw (and open world farming though). Either works in most contexts.
6 points in skirmishing is a pretty big investment, imo.
Small scale, you want your arrows to hit, thus read the wind.
Large scale, your arrows are gonna hit someone anyways, thus piercing arrows tends to be better. Unless you’re one of those pin sniper teams, then I guess RTW is possible.
My personal choice is spotter to increase party wide damage, which will probably impact more targets overall though while not killing myself with retaliation. Many people can proc survival abilities with crits, so it also helps them indirectly with survival too. Fire sigil for the aoe. If fighting a garbage train like in eotm piercing arrows is better, but that’s more pve than anything else. =p
(edited by ArchonWing.9480)
Ascended armor? No.
It’s not nonexistent, but even if you’re going against people in full ascended vs full exotics, it’s not that horrible, plus not everyone has full ascended anyways. Furthermore, ascended armor provides the least benefit over exotics.
Ascended trinkets are pretty much an inevitable part of playing the game (only laurel + badges, though the earrings can suck), and thus the only investment long term I would recommend worrying about is the ascended weapons, which is probably the bigger boost anyways. Please do not break your bank over any of these. It is not worth doing that. You’re better off getting exotics and spending your gold on good food instead.
I believe you are correct. It makes more sense to stack enemies together, and if the fire aoe was centered around them, it’d be more precise.
The audience of the gw2 forums, isn’t just pros, though. And the nature of Anet giving two hoots about dueling in any game mode being balanced, or wvw being balanced makes it an odd place to have an elitist e-sports mentality.
This is akin to someone doing their first COF run under 9 minutes, posting a video, and just getting negative feedback without much constructive criticism. /shrug. I also didn’t think highly of many of the opponents (especially that engineer, lol), but I recommended spots that’d be more prone to better fights.
And yes, I get you are all also free to voice your opinions too in disapproval, but some were better criticism than others. I know some of you actually make videos too. Those comments I can take more seriously.
Reminds me of this thread where someone made rank 10,000, and of course that doesn’t mean kitten because EOTM = lol. But of course, you could detect the insecurity in those responses by the overly verbose insuations made in it.
(edited by ArchonWing.9480)
If you’re not satisfied with the results, you may toss them in the mystic forge (3 armor +1 mystic forge stone= 1 random exotic that can be salvaged or sold on the TP). So it’ll never be a total loss.
Permeating wrath is bad, bad, bad. The AOE is awful and you went so deep into virtues for it.
Supreme justice is actually alright but outside of solo it suffers from the typical problems of condi limit.
In short, no.
(edited by ArchonWing.9480)
Oh, this isn’t the Youtube comments section. I really coudn’t tell.
Anyhow, while I do appreciate people’s efforts at recording and understand the quality of opponents is greatly impossible to control, I would suggest more borderlands roaming. Roaming in EB tends to not be so good because you are generally running into either people that trying to get to the zerg and thus are spending more time avoiding you then actually fighting them or just gank squads trying to pick off those people.

They didn’t fix that bug yet?
I wonder if the “body double” meta will become a thing.
When you see mean chat in the window, imagine it is by a barely literate, angry, and tiny dog that is banging on the keyboard.
The truth isn’t really that far off.
I dislike sword so much that now my warrior holds it. =p
The teleport is okay but then they just walk away and I feel like I’m futilely swinging away. Smite guarantees you’ll hit something even if they sidestep away your regular shots.
The immobo from scepter is amazing in any kind of team fight.
I am new to pvp and run scepter/focus/hammer though, so they just go well together with 2 immobolizes that would have been trivial on their own to deal with.
Not a problem for me, but I would consider myself pretty efficient with the bags and have enough for fun stuff like bells and balloons. Are you guys really innudated with stuff you need to use? I do however wish they’d let you purchase an “account bound” bag slot that would only store equipment. That’d be pretty cool. Despite ascended being account bound, moving things between characters is a pain, and yes I have crafted duplicate ascended weapons because I can’t be bothered.

re: People downplaying, disregarding your choices.
A lot of people simply do not tolerate other people, as much as they’d seem to. Basically if it holds no interest to them, it can’t hold interest for anybody. I honestly feel sorry for people like that which remain such close minded and unimaginative.
Also, “waste time?” Technically everything is a “waste of time” because we will all die anyways. Humans clearly shouldn’t make art, build buildings, or seek to better oneself because the sun will eventually grow into a red giant and obliterate the solar system, in which turn the universe will die a heat death. To assume you are the solo person to discern what is meaningful is quite laughable,
But this kind of attitude leads to stagnation and would have definitely not fueled progress. Instead, it fuels mediocrity, and causes people to bury themselves in possessions of which they use to judge themselves and others. And what do you know, they’d want others to conform to this miserable form of mediocrity and be threatened if you aren’t.
Anyhow, you only live once. But do consider possibilities of other aspects of life aren’t mutually exclusive with this game.
This happens to me a lot because I mash the 4 key while downed. However, if you are certain you weren’t pressing anything, then that definitely is a problem. Very frustrating anyways.
I reskinned my focus into a wine bottle (Courage). Hey, I mean if the thing that looks like a shield doesn’t block anyways, oh well. I’ll be drinking until it becomes better.
I think a more detailed explanation about this is in order. Not doing any favors just by saying it won’t work, or it’s inferior without saying why especially when wvw has so many variables involved that may or may not render my anecdotal experiences invalid given the need of the reader. What’s more important is that people pick a build that does what they need to do the best, and making too many assumptions is not too good of an idea.
POV is not that great because it is an absolute waste to use something like stand your ground or hold the line just to clear a condition or two. There’s way too many cover conditions that will flood you, so removing that random stack of bleed doesn’t help as much as it’d seem. It really isn’t worthy of a GM trait. The only time where it becomes of marginal use is when it’s combined with trooper runes, but if you do that, you’re committing your build to it and then you’re just left wondering if you could take better runes.
Thus purging flames, which not only removes condis but also reduces the effectiveness of incoming condis has become the dominant form of guardian condi removal. Nothing’s stopping you from taking both POV/soldier and Purging, but the issue is whether or not you would gain more by using melandru/hoelbrak
In smaller groups (non-zergs), POV is better, but it’s outclassed by Absolute Resolution which can be combined with Renewed focus for massive condi removal as well as passively improving your sustain. Burst condi removal is much more useful in those situations anyways for the same reason I listed above. Otherwise, you’re just going to spend forever removing junk conditions which will get reapplied anyways.
Let warriors use trooper runes, for the most part.
