The only real problem is when people join speedruns without the intent of actually speedrunning. Outside of that this so called “zerker dominance” is really a non issue. It’s not like there’s really many dps checks in this game that auto kill you if you can’t finish the boss on time.

You CAN use the same build for all game modes if you’d like, but for the classes I know of, I personally would always object to such a method simply because the game modes are too different. You can always ignore it, but I always consider advice and theorycraft on the assumption that the player wants to play optimally, or at least optimize whatever they’re intending to do, otherwise they should just do whatever and no advice is needed anyways. That is under the assumption that the player wants to improve— however I understand if they don’t. I don’t really care about enough dungeons to really learn them either. Another example is open world where nobody bothers to create the most meta build because it’s simply too trivial trying to optimize that.

I mean I’ve always advised people on their take on the game even if it’s not “meta” however I just feel some ideas are a bit worse than others, and that’s just how it is.

Of course, that’s another issue. Perhaps it’s another form of efficiency for yourself. Maybe you don’t run enough dungeons for a big enough ROI on them to get entire extra sets. It can be cumbersome and takes up space. And of course there’s the other question if you actually need gold or not. The game isn’t just about amassing gold.

WvW FrontLine AH gear advice please.

You’d be better off with 300 healing power for this particular build.

AH scales badly with healing power and so your only major sources that use healing power are regen, staff 2 heals, and dodge heals. In the end AH is the bulk of your sustain. Dodge heals are nice but alone I don’t think they justify investment into healing power; with such a high armor, AH alone should be enough. You’d probably be better off with knight or zerker trinkets over the cleric. But if you insist, you may want to just try cleric amulet. This will give you 500’ish dodge heals.

Achievement Point Chests Need Love

It’s definitely something to think about. I have 9953 AP, and finally there’s a chest worth talking about very soon.

Higher AP chests need to reward more since as you get beyond a certain point as it becomes increasingly harder to gain AP as you complete existing ones. Dailies and monthlies, and whatever festivals/LS comes along provide me the bulk of AP and eventually the first two will be capped.

Will level cap raise?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ArchonWing.9480

ArchonWing.9480

Increasing the level cap does very little because the people that are campaigning for it will just reach it in a week or two and then we’re back to square one. If you make it so even they find it a pain to get it, then this drags the whole player base along. Let’s consider the people that are struggling to make a legendary, and then note the players that have many of them.

Consider the ascended grind. Actually, if we assume only 1 player running 1 build and you ignored ascended armor completely, the grind really isn’t that bad and can be obtained via dedicated “normal” play of say 1-2 hours a day or less. Problem comes when someone wants to make all characters. Even if say the grind to 90 was reasonable; it’d suck to level alts even more. Unless of course levels are account bound. Then I’d consider it. :p

And the balance of the game is revolved around level 80 characters. Considering how balance is now, now is not the time to introduce more power creep otherwise balancing people across say 80-85 would be a great problem.

Increasing the cap with new content would just create gated content, which doesn’t really work with this game.

In the end, leveling is merely a number. I want 80 because they want access to all the content in the game. The feeling of being stronger than a lower level character is nice, but merely a novelty that makes one message their friends about it when it happens and then gets forgotten about a few days later.

WvW players is mean?

ArchonWing.9480

People who demand res’s and don’t run back, and just die instantly are a problem in all game modes. And yes you would deserve flack for it; however there is no level requirement for entering wvw and if the intended behavior truly is to “eotm until 80” then I would suggest they either fixed the level scaling (that compensates for the kitten traits uplevels now have) or just not allow them in at all. Until then, “EOTM until 80” has no meaning to me, even though I will begrudgingly level my toon there if needed.

But yes, regardless of 80 or not, it is important to be aware of what situations you may effect. Blatantly telling people to leave is bad, because you may have scared away future 80s who might have helped you had they been given the time to learn. Most people were noobs once, and many still are. Being 80 doesn’t remove that; it just makes you a noob with a higher potential.

I’m glad they’re finally dealing with the rallybotting situation where defeated players won’t rally tons of people. Having a situation where people can provide massively negative contributions is simply toxic and unfun.

Although uplevels are a liability in small scale fights, they often usually die instantly so it is rare they rally anyone, really unless they come in and stupidly join in the middle of a fight. But if I do that, might as well blame those full pvt no support no damage toons that are out just to tag as many kills as possible who don’t have the decency to die at the start but eventually so due because they do not work with the group in regards to position or anything really without contributing anything so they rally enemies when it matters the most.

Renewed Focus

ArchonWing.9480

That’s working as intended. You don’t get the full effect of most skills when you interrupt them.

There is never a reason to dodge during renewed focus; you dodge to avoid damage and that stops you from taking any; it’s not too hard to time your dodge so that it happens right after. I used to do that a lot when I was newer to guardian, but this is a player issue because it means you aren’t timing your dodges and most likely just spamming them to get out of trouble and gain distance without planning ahead, managing your endurance and positioning yourself properly so this isn’t an issue in the first place.

And yes this skill is often used just because alternatives are lacking.

MM, Monk’s focus is not effective with only one meditation, especially the one with the longest cooldown. Also, SYG is highly recommended. SY/COP is not a bad combo but it’s just too long of a cooldown. If you are to pick medis, I think judge’s intervention is best for the mobility. Also, health is on the low end.

And yes, pve works too differently from wvw to mix builds beyond open world pve so this is wvw.

Putting static concepts in a game that often focuses so much on the ease of mobility and disengagement seems unwise. IMO, too strict adhering of this vision contradicts the way the game is actually played.

You end up with stuff like engineer turrets— popular in pvp but nowhere else. Not sure if that’s balanced. In the end, I really feel that the different game modes work so differently that balance cannot just be applied to all 3.

Candy Corn Gobbler: non multiple of 400 gems.

ArchonWing.9480

Not next year, no. Not months from now, no. It’s coming, and it’s coming very soon.

In fact, I’m going to a review in less than an hour, although that doesn’t set a release time quite yet.

What I wonder about is this: What if someone says something is coming “in the next couple of days” or “within the next week” or “by the end of the month” and then testing reveals an issue that delays the implementation? Would you rather hear something rather specific, like “in the next couple of days,” even while you know that it could change for reasons outside our control? Or would you rather hear “soon” and not have as solid an expectation, but also take on board that the implementation is a top priority (as was mentioned in the thread about the Currency Exchange changes)?

I feel that either answer isn’t perfect, so I’d welcome your insights. You should know that I truly do understand that “soon” is frustratingly vague and I argue against.. I mean, “I gently speak in favor of alternatives…” whenever we can use something more meaningful. On the other hand, saying something more specific can result in flaming “You promised it by XX time!” comments, because even a casual possible release time could be adopted as an absolute date/time/time zone promise.

Thoughts?

First off, I’d like to say that none of this is directed to you personally. People with any life experience know that you are just here to deliver the message and a lot of stuff is simply out of your control. I also understand that time estimates are never exact because the world doesn’t work like that especially involving corrections as you cannot simply turn a business on a dime. Of course, the perception of time for people that are waiting tends to be much faster than the people that are working on it.

My personal opinion is yes to set a date even that you may not make it. Estimates are not guarantees. However, even something more concrete as “don’t expect it within the next couple of days” prevents any self-cornering I would say.

The main point of contention is that products that are being released that have this issue and it does give the air that pocketing 100 more gems temporarily is more important. Though I do understand that releasing it later may not be optimal either, but it is what it is.

But I’ll just ignore this one more time, because I have gems on hand that were purchased a while back again. WvW Guardian Build (zerging), Need feedback!

in Guardian

Posted by: ArchonWing.9480

ArchonWing.9480

Well, it doesn’t really matter where the “on kill” sigils really go as long as you have the weapon active. I keep the bloodlust sigil on staff because the other weapon I want to have the max damage or whatnot. Staff is mostly just for utility and I can always build stacks off guards or random things.

I would ditch the nullification sigil because the cooldown is simply too high and won’t make a difference in zergs. In its place there’s water for an aoe heal or energy for stamina refill. There’s also the cheaper sigil of stamina of course, but I’m not too big of a fan of on kill effects.

And again the sigil of ice isn’t that good due to the cooldown and I do believe it only effects one target so hydromancy is better (aoe chill on swap), Other choices include another water, energy, or stamina sigil. Or maybe fire/force for damage.

WvW player looking for advice on AH-EM build

in Guardian

ArchonWing.9480

Force of Will I don’t think is too needed unless you are leading. The other case is if you delve into clerics gear due to the lack of vitality, but that is not recommended for an AH build. For the most part surplus HP is used to withstand large bursts, but over long fights your ability to keep your health matters more and to negate conditions/damage is key to that.

Renewed Justice is pretty fun and may be optimal for farming extremely bad zergs like in EOTM. The effectiveness starts to drop drastically the better your opponents get. Barring that though, you wouldn’t really have much in the way of active condition removal either; you could take purging flames though.

I would say just stick with your current build. In place of Force of Will, there’s also Pure of Voice for condi removal or Two Handed Mastery (that’s actually my choice but I run 0/0/6/6/2) which you can try out.

What purpose in wvw? Are you running around shooting people down? Are you running with friends or zergs? Do you want to be glass or have staying power?

You really don’t want to invest in condition damage as you don’t have any condition pressure really. Also, a lot of the skirmishing traits really aren’t that great so enter this tree with a purpose other than increasing precision and ferocity.

I like the spider for immobilizing foes. And yea, trooper runes are a no go on ranger; their shouts aren’t too hot. I also like to have 3 points in wilderness knowledge for protection on dodge roll which increases survivability greatly. You can always take Hunter’s tactics instead of a second WS trait of course.

Gee, you can easily get ~200 ToT bags in an hour or so. And bags have up to 50 Candy Corn in them. It takes little time to get a stack. It seems, to me, anyway, that the Devs were very generous this year in enabling a pretty darn easy way to get rewards.

But, that’s just my opinion, a mere casual. /shrug

How are you able to get 200 bags without the rat farm thing? Im doing the Lab circle farm and get roughly about 120 bags per hour if Im lucky.

You need to find an attack that tags well. (Mostly guardian staff, but a sigil of fire helps as well). More dps and partying up helps too, so you get credit for as many kills as possible.

Also, some zergs are just better than others.

Celestial vs PVT

in Guardian

Posted by: ArchonWing.9480

ArchonWing.9480

It’s hard for a guardian. My hunch is PVT. I do pvt with zerker trinkets because I don’t want to spend so many laurels/commendations for extra trinkets

The recipes for celestial success:

Active use of all available stats, in particular healing power and condition damage. This is why classes like engineers do well— most of their good skills are mixed damage and they have ample access to regen. Guardians have dodge heals, healing sigils, regen, mace heals and possibly healing breeze— not the easiest to incorporate. For condi damage, there’s just burning… Due to the poor scaling of AH with healing power, I’m thinking celestial is not the best choice.

Lots of might, due to it boosting both kinds of damage. Might is especially effective for celestial because it is a flat bonus, and builds with celestial have lower power due to the stat spread. Fixed bonus to smaller numbers is an larger bonus relatively speaking. Guardians can have trouble with consistent might— yes we have empower but that’s more of a burst. I suppose if you have a party that can maintain all that might it’d be nice. You do have fire fields.

Ferocity nerf makes it even harder for guardians to take advantage.

IMO, you would need to overcome both obstacles for it to not waste stats. But when it comes to terms of raw survival, nothing can beat PvT or sentinel. (well, there is nomads but I assume people want to be useful, pins excluded)

I don’t know. I just pressed a few buttons with your build for celestial. How does it look?

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fVAQJARWlsApYoNDxVI8DNRCRl5MEgY+BP31XQAcAA-TlCEABLcIAeSZAXKBxU9HJeAAap0DgLAwDHBgY2fwNdBkBgZMA-w

[IMO too much effort, it doesn’t help that celestial is time gated]

— Definite loss of raw power, with a bit higher ferocity which won’t make up the difference. You will need an average of a couple of might stacks constantly running over your previous build to keep up.

— Dodge rolls are twice as effective. This is the biggest thing.

— Your burns are like 25% more effective which may help once in a while.

— I took empowering might for might (duh). You will have better sustain as long as you keep attacking, but the loss of 2hm can be an issue.

— Shelter blocks = might

— I sacrificed your 3rd stability for about 50% more passive healing. (145 HPS vs 96 HPS). However, if we took absolute resolution on your pvt build, it’d already be 120 hps so only 25 HPS can be attributed to celestial. (~19% bonus). Keeping Courage would be 116 vs 96, which is a little more than 20%. Actually this is not too bad.

— I left a few pieces as soldier because I do not want the armor/hp to sink too low.

— Restoration was replaced with water. If the wiki isn’t lying to me, water scales with HP and restoration doesn’t. With water healing for 449 on a hit every 5 seconds, it should be more consistent than restoration and also heals allies.

I’m sure people can do better. I’ve seen people put up crazily optimized celestial builds that I don’t even understand, but yes, PVT with more offensive trinkets as you need seems to be the safest choice. I also think that celestial would be better with some variant of healway that could get might put onto it, due to the issues with scaling.

OP,

Do not use that build; it does nothing but help you leech in zergs and there’s better ways for that too. Sacrificing damage for restoration sigils will just be a problem in tough fights. I am also not sure why there’s so much focus on precision since none of the procs require a high critical hit chance to maintain. Glacial heart’s cooldown is just too high to sacrifice other useful traits.

I mean just look at how much more damage either of Relentliss’s builds do while providing infinitely more utility to the group (reflect+ fire field in pve and stability + fire fields in wvw) Keeping your group strong and alive = you are strong and alive. So you can’t just build for yourself.

Ah, well the build link last I checked has Superior Aria, so I’m just wondering what you use in its place.

Actually, it is precisely because you have so much healing that the large heal from SoR is generally redundant. Shelter offers you a way of avoiding damage, and unlike most other guardian blocks that block a set amount of attacks, shelter can block a limitless amount of attacks (unblockable ones at least) and generally saves you more health, in particular if you get focused down. If multiple people try to burst you down, it’s entirely possible they’ll do more damage than SoR can heal.

It’s also a really easy way to get some might stacks due to the valor major trait that gives might on each block.

In terms of going for rewarding progression and trying to be the special snowflake, please don’t. The grind in this game is just not worth it. I think this is a game best played 1-2 hours daily or so.

I strongly recommend finding a way to associate with other players. Finding a decent guild is a good choice, but wvw also has a place to play with a community. Playing solo is alright, but I don’t really see any lasting value in it especially with the megaserver tossing you in with strangers.

Sounds like a busybody thing to do. I wouldn’t even notice the skins most of the time.

I don’t anymore, but when I got the skins initially when I was newer, I was of course proud. I think it would be similar for other newer players who work hard for their skins. I’d heard a person complain when pvp armor and weapons were merged with pve gear. Although I liked the change, I found the complaint understandable that they might be upset since they worked hard to receive that gear, and then have the satisfaction on that work taken away. I have enough nice skins and an excess in many tokens, so your right I rarely notice anymore, but it wont change my thoughts on dungeon selling.

Well that’s fine too. Some people come for self-fulfillment, others come to just own stuff. To me, they’re equally valid reasons, even though I personally don’t agree with what they’re doing sometimes.

What I don’t agree with, and should be banned, is the ability to join someone’s party and kick their own instance because that goes way beyond dungeon selling and is just an ingredient for a toxic environment.

I mean it doesn’t matter what OP was doing. Let’s say he just started the dungeon on his own for a few minutes and then uses LFG; and then gets kicked. That would clearly be wrong, wouldn’kitten It’d just be a few minutes of progress stolen, but still— that should not be allowed.

This looks like a build I just posted in another thread, so yea I would say it works good especially for your group size. =p

What utilities do you use? I’m guessing you take JI/SYG and then either Contemplation of Purity or Smite Condition?

It would probably be a good idea to take shelter. Shelter has a shorter cooldown and generally works better when you get focused or just hit by heavy aoe. Signet of Resolve’s cooldown can be reduced via Signet Mastery, but going into radiance isn’t so hot for your build.

I would also take some -condi food as conditions are extremely deadly in small scale combat. Saffron bread is an economical choice as poultry soup can be quite expensive.

Help for a soloroaming Chill Hammer build?

in Guardian

ArchonWing.9480

I disagree that hammer has “no place in roaming” as I have sometimes run with hammer/gs. Teleporting in with a ring of warding has its moments. Often many roaming builds don’t have stability on them and think a stunbreak is enough. That’s when wards and immobilize give them big trouble. A lot of people diss the hammer because of the slow as mollases auto attack chain but nobody said you have to finish it all the time. Usually when I use hammer, I use for the skills and use the other weapon to 211111 with. I won’t say it’s the best thing, but if you want to have fun, don’t let any of it stop you.

Glacial heart has too high of a cooldown; I’d think a hydromancy sigil might be more straight forward. I think it excels for group roaming where you can have people to pin people down but nobody says you can’t do it alone either.

I dunno, what do you think? Not sure if build is good, I only know about trolling.

Obviously the revive trait should be swapped if you are solo. If you whiff on your immobolize/knockdown, you will be kited to death so make it all count. IMO GS is absolutely needed on swap so at least you can reposition yourself. sw/f on swap is possible too, but I’m just posting what I would do.

If you don’t like that, then the typical 2/1/6/1/4 build would do its job but I think 2HM is good for this build.

Does anything counter these things with any class? It seems to be the most absurd thing I’ve seen in this game, and that’s sorta bad.

I think if the endgame should be dressup, then let it be dressup.

Outfits from the gemstore just don’t have the flexibility or interest to be that. Granted, some of them do look nice, but there should be more effort into pieces that can be mixed and matched. (And hell, you can charge for individual pieces— I don’t care)

“Increased the party kick threshold from 40% to 50%.”

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/dungeons/10-21-14-Dungeon-Patch/4513846

As seen here, people have confirmed that 2 people are needed to kick someone out of a party of 5.

Unless of course they meant that 50% of the players that are not the person voted to be kicked which would be 2 out of 4, but that would mean that they have done absolutely nothing to change anything. You would need 2 people to kick regardless except when in a party of 2… which means the other person can kick the other. Yea…

Perhaps use absolute numbers rather than %? Division is kinda hard. It’s also hard to come up with half a person…. unless you’re counting people in clerics as 1/2 which kinda works too.

Well, no matter what you think about dungeon selling:
Allowing players to harass other players by kicking them/scamming them is inadequate.

I don’t see whats wrong with selling dungeons as long is the price is reasonable (max 5g for a 3g path).
There is no reason to force ppl playing dungeons they don’t like because they need the tokens for the bifrost etc.
There is no reason to force ppl playing in groups if they don’t like to do so.

I don’t know why ppl always wanna force others to play a game the way they think it should be played. Its my choice if i want to play Arah Solo. Being rewarded adequately is also my choice.

ATM i get kicked every 3rd attempt to give Arah away.

Exactly. Selling dungeons is a red herring. It is simply a behavior that shouldn’t be allowed. What if I decide to 3 man a dungeon and decide to LFG for help, and they come and kick us just because? Might as well not pretend the LFG tool doesn’t exist since it openly allows griefing.

I don’t sell dungeons, but this kind of crap convinces me that since Anet won’t lift a finger to stop griefers beyond report collection and might think about it later that I should definitely just play dungeon with friends. Great atmosphere.

Please, please be careful, when changes are made. Across the game, I think there’s been too much recklessness.

Blame Anet for crippling uplevels with their awful traiting system. Previously uplevels were a liability but not as much.

Of course, the response given to me was that uplevels weren’t meant to be in wvw, so whatever, just go to EOTM. And report everyone that sends you harassing whispers.

Fortunately rallybotting is getting nerfed, so we may see some light.

If uplevels were not meant to be in WvW they would not permit them in WvW. I have used upleveled a lot in WvW (not EoTM), or char with pretty subpar gear (all green) without being any more or less a rally bait than the next guy. There is a lot of irrational fears going on.

But to directly answer the OP, yeah, people on WvW can be particularly putrid and selfish. My advise is to take a good hard look at them and to never forget how you never want to be.

That being said, there could be a pretty easy fix for the current mechanic that would limit the rally to 1 body up per body going down. It could be that the rallying player who did the most damage is the one rallying. This way there would not be 1 body going down for 12 possibly going up.

Still, blaming Anet for the putrid behavior some have is a sorry excuse.

I never said that people should be excused for such actions. I did say to report such behavior. But I do hold Anet responsible for making the situation worse where certain people being present can actually make a situation worse when it really shouldn’t.

Darn, that must be a long time to go without lunch.

In all seriousness though, that has no relevance on what would be good design anyways. Balance is a very difficult task with the meta always evolving.

Could it be said that they messed up in pvp; maye.

But can balance be achieved if the game is fundamentally design flawed?. Its no big secret this games pvp failed miserably.

You have classes where 2/3ds of its signature skills are useless in 2/3rds of the game.

Classes static over time ground target skills in a game designed around fluid moving combat.

Gross advantage of ranged over melee in 2 out of the 3 game modes of the game.

The game is fundamentally design flawed it goes beyond simple balancing and its essentially dead pvp and wvw show it very much.

If the game design is so flawed that not even the best players can overcome it, then that’s what I consider fundamentally flawed, and thus it needs to start at the top.

Also, melee is dominant in 2 out of 3 game modes (pve and wvw), so not really sure what that comes from. I do agree that a lot of skills and traits are useless but Anet is moving to fix them. Though it does seem like pvp is a trainwreck in terms of balance regardless /shrug

I don’t play/care about pvp

Guardians:

Great in PvE
Great in wvw >3 people, dominant and mandatory as numbers increase to the point where compositions demand at least 1 guardian per party in zergs
Mediocre at solo roaming wvw though not necessarily hopeless but nothing compares with a thief anyways.
In general the presence of guard stacks benefits guardian greatly due to their low base health.

The underdog IMO is the necromancer, and the class in the worst spot. It is the worst class in pve and while great in large scale wvw tends to be a poor roamer. (Good duelist, but much like the guardian has little in the way of disengage and pursuit)

Note that I judge in relative terms. You can definitely roam on any class but some are just easier than others to get results.

but then it also wins every 1v1 and 2v2 in the game for pvp

If your opponent is are complete kittens, sure why not, thou the same can be said for every other class in the game…

im talking about top (top top top) tier pvp

Sadly design should not be based about what the top 1% can do with it, but what your average joe can.

Actually, designing the game balance around the average player is terrible in terms of making it competitive. Games between randoms are irrelevant in the grand scheme of things because players simply aren’t aware of the counters and often times they are decided simply due to whoever plays less poorly.

Games should be designed at the skill cap. Other players can rise to it. But if the game is broken then no amount of rising will fix it. And how can you expect a game to have a high skill cap when you’re balancing it relative to the floor?

5 Randoms in a pug != 5 Average Joes In a Premade Team.

Relative to best, they might as well be. And besides, there’s a whole host of high level play in between.

The games that balance and design around the top 1% of premade teams with under 20ms ping connections, invariably fail because that does not represent the bast majority of their player base. Kind of like this one did on lunch when pvp crashed and burned.

There is a reason world of Warcraft has a bigger pvp crowd, being a pve game and being this a pvp king successor.

Oh, we’re talking about Blizzard now? You know what one of their top pvp games is? Starcraft 2. They focus balance exclusively on the stats of the top leagues and tournaments. I’m sure that game didn’t sell well at all. Or its predecessor, lol. Let’s just say they don’t take in account what platinum league players say very much.

Or just maybe, just maybe, Blizzard’s a bigger name?

Of course, Blizzard’s UI making makes it far more accessible to casual players, which Arenanet needs to learn.

You wanna know what is even bigger than SC2, LoL, they constantly make changed based on feedback from average joe, and what they perceive to be the general feeling of the player base.

Should high skill lvl players be consulted, certainly, but they should be consulted in regards to fine tuning balance, not on general game design. Does a Skill need an extra second CD? sure go ask the top 1%, having a class that has both its signature skills being fixed ground targeting on a game based on fluid dynamic combat, that’s quite beyond the high skill lvl players, regardless of whether they can make it work or not.

Which still doesn’t address my main point. I was talking about balance and competitive gameplay since the topic was win/loss, not general usability or accessibility. The average player can always get better. The game changes and for example, going zerker in dungeons is no big secret that only the top players can do. That viewpoint might have been different two years ago. So I ask, if you balance the game around the average person, then it will simply become imbalanced as they get better.

Some viewpoints are just more valuable than others. And there being 8 professions in the game, it would take a long time just to play 1 to a high level, and thus perspective of the whole picture is already hard enough to gather— that doesn’t really leave much room for noise. Now, I’m not saying that people should be forbidden from balance input, but at the same time if it gets ignored, then I can’t really complain either.

Besides, where do you think the “meta” comes from— builds made by top players that the average joe copies.
