for there you have been and there you will long to return.

It can, but it’s not a magic pill— 100% greater chance of something very small, is still very small. I think it’s simpler to focus on killing speed.
However, if you are doing dailies in a 1-15 zone, I can’t see why you wouldn’t wear MF gear since being fully geared for that is ridiculously overkill. Snagging 1-2 yellows in the time it takes do dailies is a huge boon since often going to these zones is barely break even considering wp costs. There are also other more subtle things such as crappy white items becoming crappy blue/green items which vendor for a bit more and over time it does add up. Indeed, when MF gear is on, my standard vendor trash becomes greens. On the other hand, wearing mf gear for world bosses or dungeons is usually not a good idea since you will kill too slowly.
I think all out MF is too much as well. When MF’ing, I use berserkers with 5 pirate runes and 1 traveler rune for 60 MF. Amulet adds 20 and a peach tart makes it 106 MF already. Stacking terrible explorer runes, armor, trinkets, and weapons seems like too big of a sacrifice to the point where you may lose loot due to not doing enough damage to tag. Luck sigils seem to be a terrible joke too. 15 MF for all that effort which goes away after you go down? :S
I mean 200 MF isn’t twice better than 100 MF. 100% + 100%=200%, 100% + 200% = 300%. It’s only 50% better! Sacrificing like 60% crit damage or hundreds of armor for that? Nope. I’m happy with just sacrificing 18% crit damage for 80 Mf.
For fresh 80s that have to self gear, I don’t think there’s much wrong with acquiring yellow berserker with mf orbs (later to upgrade to mf runes). You will still output okay damage until you can establish yourself with exotic whatever gear. Going full yellow explorer though was a waste of time— I felt it was just too weak.
tl;dr If you are impatient, don’t bother with MF as the effects take time and patience to show up and it’s not in the most obvious way (OMG precursor!). When in doubt, just pack zerker gear and kill as many as possible as soon as possible. That’s the more reliable path.

You will get the uber-legendary known as the NPC slayer. Now Trahearne and Zommoros can finally get it.
Man, come to think about it, there needs to be an evil personal storyline.
Man, if you want to brag start a blog.
;)
Ok, well, that’s fine too.
Southsun Cove is labeled a level 80 area, and it definitely is harder than the other level 80 areas, making it pretty difficult by open world standards. While I can just jump into mobs at cursed shore, I would not want to do that here. It’s mostly those stupid confuse that gives so much trouble. Otherwise, it’s not too bad beyond event scaling. I do like how you can’t be so reckless all the time.
Yet another self righteous tryhard topic.
There’s a huge difference between flaws in gameplay mechanics and balance, and the developers appealing to the peasants. Unfortunately, running off the circular logic that a game that only caters to casual players is bad is well… circular.
If you don’t like it, fine. But going off on rants that the game is being ruined and the world is ending and other nonsensical hyperbole comes across as insanely self centered. Seeing vertical progression as a mandatory attribute of good gameplay for example, is of extreme tunnel vision.
Of course it just shows that the extremes of both sides leads to silly arguments. The player that doesn’t want to grind at all that gets mad when people have legendaries and they don’t, and the player that grinds too hard and gets mad when they see other people get legendaries have one thing in common:
ME ME ME
I am not successful in this game (successful defined by some insanely narrow metric that nobody cares about) thus people that are more successful either needs nerf or the gameplay mechanics must change. I will then spew some moralistic crap about how people are ruining the game when they play it differently from me. Of course, the way I play and view it is righteous and the only correct way the game should be designed.
If you want to complain, complain about the interface. Complain about why the trading post filters are so limited. Complain about why you can’t see other players in large fights. Complain about the camera angles having seizures. Complain about some areas of the game being less rewarding than others. Complain about how monsters do so much damage, that most of the defensive gear choices are useless anyways. Complain about how traits and skills don’t work. Complain about lying tooltips. Complain about misleading timers to reset. Complain about the lack of LFG. Complain about the poor drop rates. Complain about the poor risk vs to reward. Complain about regular transmutation stones.
But no, despite the fact that all of these issues are of function and nothing to do with how devoted someone is to a game, it’s always the games pandering to the LCD that causes games to magically collapse.
Or the problem could be with you. Nah.
(edited by ArchonWing.9480)
Cloth and leather are pretty worthless. You can sell the leather strap and whatnot for a tiny profit after tp fee (like 10 copper more than vendoring it, but it’s nothing to really care about.
I use fine salvage kits bought with worthless karma for my salvaging—
(edited by ArchonWing.9480)
Well, WvW isn’t strictly pvp. It’s more casual, and playing with large groups of people can be fun. Coordinating said group has its own appeal when done well. There’s also a vague notion of server/guild pride.
Also, bad players can hide in a zerg and proclaim their superiority over other players as they are a l33t pvp’er which is of a higher caliber than your pve player even though most of it was not done by them.
I have bought like 1, bag slot for convenience.
The rez and repair items I can see and they should be able to acquired through (rare) drops.
And as mentioned above, transmutation crystals are the biggest joke.
Still, I can’t say the game forces you to do any of that. The items listed above are the worst ones, for sure. I don’t imagine myself having to buy gems with actual money any time soon.
Nothing, sadly.
Problem is that difficulty is relative, and no matter what you do, it won’t be right for someone.
In addition, there are multiple professions in the game, and some have an easier time.
They had it tried with explorable vs story mode as well as increasing fractal level, sadly, people would complain about getting less reward, and some diatribe about how they have a life so they can’t learn to play the game better.
It is entirely possible to create a situation where content is “skill gated”, due to people feeling entitled to get access to everything without any effort. Ultimately when a lot of people say “challenging content” it is content that “I can still beat, but those nubs over there can’t.” If they somehow fall into the second category, most will break down and start immediately whining in the forums.
Of course, it doesn’t matter anyways, since 378 karma and 168 copper aren’t worth talking about.
(edited by ArchonWing.9480)
It is. That is why defensive gear blows, because it doesn’t really even help you. Kill (and dodge) or be killed
There should be an achievement for reading 100 “I quit” threads. I demand compensation for that time sink!
Though then people would whine about how tedious that is too…
I’m not sure what people exactly want in terms of gold farmed per hour/day or what they want to do with all the gold. Regardless, if the amount of gold in the economy was to increase because of people’s ability to farm it wouldn’t cost of everything would just rise along with the increase in gold supply?
That is a very good point. What is considered “acceptable?” Buffing loot in and of itself doesn’t mean you’ll make more gold. Even granting more gold doesn’t guarantee more gold. That’s because if there’s more of something, the less it’d be worth. Though I do thing this is related to those gem prices. :/
Further, wouldn’t having a few specific methods for earning gold (which are superior to other areas of the game/ways to play the game) drive people to those areas and ways of playing even if it wasn’t an enjoyable way of playing just so they can keep up?
People are already driven to specific areas of the game, unfortunately.
There’s been any number of discussion out there that either the game is too easy and takes no skill, or that something isn’t really challenging and requiring of skill, but just frustrating.
So pray tell., since I haven’t played any other MMO, tell me what “skill” is, and what ideal challenges would be.
Mm… this old game nostalgia is getting tiring, and I am almost certain that people fixate over certain titles too much, nor did they really partake in “classic” gaming as much as they thought.
Plenty of classic games were not ball bustingly difficult. Super Mario Bros wasn’t a cakewalk to the initiated but it was pretty easy if you knew about the warp zone workaround which didn’t take long. Mega Man has rather forgiving mechanics. Yes, the original one is the hardest, but it’s the sequel — a far more forgiving game that gets etched into memory But nobody will go "It’s too easy-- it’s a terrible game" Why? Playing the game itself was rewarding.
See, a lot of games during the NES days were hard, but nobody gives a kitten about them because they were frequently hard due to bugged mechanics and poor game design. Which is only natural— game design wasn’t as cemented as back then to what worked or not. Most were just concerned with churning shoddy products for quick $, something that never really changes, ever. Of course, there were a few true gems that were challenging and get remembered to this very day. But those are by far the exception to the rule— just because a bunch of no-namer games also killed you instantly for making the slightest mistake did not make it a good game.
See, a number of old games were made off the arcade model. You weren’t supposed to be playing it for long, so the game would find ways to kill you asap so the next in line could play. Obviously for reasons on longevity and the movement of video games to the home that this kind of gameplay would evolve. And point is, that the more repeatable content is, the easier it is. That’s just how it goes. And there are some games that aren’t meant to be “beaten” in the traditional sense. I hope people would realize that in a game like this where winning and losing aren’t concrete things outside of wvw and pvp. It would be like complaining Sim City is too easy.
Still, even keeping this in mind, modern games have failed to keep the tenets of what made older games work. Things such as responsive controls and intuitive, consistent mechanics are areas where many games today, including Guild Wars 2 are pretty pitiful in dealing with. For example, I only knew of not being able to equip 2 identical ascended rings through Diablo 3— otherwise I wouldn’t have known. I assume the game thought the term Unique would make sense to MMO players. But that’s a fatal assumption that takes too much for granted.
If you want to make Guild Wars 2 a better game, challenge is low on the list. I would recommend fixing the broken targeting and seizure camera first. As well as the abundance of misleading tooltips.

I’d imagine it’d work nice on a hybrid damage necro that uses scepter.
Then again, most of you forgot there’s such a profession, so I’ll leave it at that.
Of course, it’s much easier to stack damage and think one is pro.
One thing I learned about games, is that no matter how stupid you set the goals to be…
1.) Someone will do it
2.) Someone will say it’s “too easy”
This bug has been around forever. But they have more pressing “issues”
The Guardian trait Perfect Inscriptions only started working in the open world now. It was non-functional since release, and that’s just a trait. They even fixed the tooltip once but no real fix til now.
Well, my necro will remain shelved for the time being. Maybe in 2015 we’ll get it fixed.
DPS checks are garbage.
I know some people will say “You shouldn’t be able to kite a boss for 7 hours and outlast it”. But it’s my right to pick such a choice, and arbitrarily removing it via lazy design is stupid.
In a PvE that already prioritizes DPS above all else, that would just be another way to make non-dps gear even more useless.
Blizzard had the good sense to remove it from most of D3, I hope nobody repeats the same mistakes here.
DPS checks will lead to exclusion. We’d have to kick people out who don’t have enough DPS since it would make the thing literally unfinishable. People are already upset about excluding those that slow down a run by 1-2 minutes. What if it becomes necessary, where some parties literally can’t do it at all?
(edited by ArchonWing.9480)
And if you were really that determined to grind out legendaries, then I would think in all that time they’d you’d find some time to run an organized group to run with at most times.
You know the funny thing about this is (grind for legendarily in CoF)? The CoF farmers are basically the unproductive leeches of the GW2 economy. The only thing that they produce is gold (inflation) and Molten Cores/Lodestones, and they use the gold they introduce to simply purchase the actual mats from those other players who actually are the ones producing the mats that they need.
Well it’s true to some degree, but it’s hard for me to really say much because none of us are under any obligation to contribute anything. That, and because open world loot is not very good, I can’t really blame anyone for running CoF either.
The only wrong is when people consider the game as they play it to be the only way to play. This to me includes people that impose themselves on other, demanding only the best PPC gear or those that do not cooperate with others, such as joining a speedrun with MF gear.
Although I have to say. I know berserker gear greatly benefits Warriors who have an inherently high health pool, but it seems to me when people say that, that it sorta ignores many of the other professions. Is berserker the best for all?
Personally, I have no trouble admitting I am a selfish jerk that wants things my way. It may seem to be the same thing, but in reality, I don’t think I’m inherently entitled to better treatment. And truth is, pushing inspect on all, comes across as valuing your part of the game above others.
(edited by ArchonWing.9480)
I think opt-in inspect would be nice, but then I guess people would demand it anyways.
Although most of you need to drop the moral high ground. I find cleric gear to be lulz too but don’t go on some moralistic rampage about how if one isn’t min-maxing then they are hurting the group because only berserker gear people can be selflessly benefiting their group. What you should say is that people in MF/cleric gear are hurting YOU and YOUR interests. Which is fine, and would be far more honest.
My opinion is that you should not join speedrunning groups with non-dps gear. But where does it end? Will full ascended be a requirement now?
Although I have to ask people. Are all people that don’t play the chosen classes in PvE untermensch that should be excluded and selfish because they want to play their own way and drag everyone else down?
It’s pretty laughable. If this were a competitive situation I would care, but this is just PvE lol. What exactly does faster accumulation of gold do in this game? Is the world going to turn off if you make 20 gold less? And if you were really that determined to grind out legendaries, then I would think in all that time they’d you’d find some time to run an organized group to run with at most times. If not, I think that’s pretty inefficient play in an MASSIVE MULTIPLAYER ONLINE rpg, no?
(edited by ArchonWing.9480)
Keep the bots away by making the game unplayable, that way there will be no bots… or players.
Or maybe make everything easy to find, and thus bots will have nothing to sell.
On our server Stormbluff Isle, Blix at Cursed Shore’s pertinent camp is stuck and thus no events after that can progress
Of course, outside of meta events, regular events give a measly bit of copper and karma. And then there is no surprise that people end up in instances.
In reality, I don’t care about the hatchlings not dropping loot. But when they’re veterans and constantly immobilize you, that’s a completely different problem.
(edited by ArchonWing.9480)
I’m just a wanderer, slowly building up loot while looking for what’s interesting to do.
Alternatively, I could be a forum warrior, but that’s really no fun since you get one shot.
I don’t really see a problem on my server (Stormbluff Isle). Some zones are deserted, but there’s usually people doing something in Lion’s Arch.
Of course, any game with a chat box can be social… it’s just up to the people. You certainly can’t force people to talk, and some just value their privacy more.
Interestingly, a lot of people are complaining the downscaling is too severe. If you don’t upgrade your gear, you actually get weaker in a lower area as you level.
I don’t really see this as too much of a problem. If we went this route, then we should remove levels entirely. I actually have no problem with that. :p As played, with 100% downscaling then leveling seems to be even more of a waste of time.
Because ascended gear is poorly thought out, and every aspect of them shows why.
I tried the toilet to see what was up… and after 10 tries no clovers and some wooden planks. No thank you, I’m just going to buy it off the TP in 2023.
The events in orr are tuned to take in account that NPCs are with you. You know, it’s a fight and you can’t single handedly win them or leech off NPCs. That makes sense.
However, they keep making the enemies stronger, and then the NPCs are made of paper. The best is when they are getting crushed on screen and the enemies don’t despawn, resulting in unsuspecting players running in and getting ambushed. Yea, really…
Well, they’re eeevvvillll for a reason.
In the end, this is why I thought the “personal story” is pretty trash, and may never end up completing it. It was nice for the first parts, where you explore your area and your character, but then it turns out that it really doesn’t matter, and in actuality, your choices don’t matter either.
I mean imagine a movie that introduces a hero and develops them for half the movie, and then out of nowhere this other guy comes out and he takes all the credit while Hero #1 does all the important stuff. Whatever.
There would have been no qualm with making him a advisor to the pact, and then we would all know his sage advice was helping everyone. His character would still be critical to the plot but that deserves to be in the background and not shoved at us with every step.
In the end, it might have been good for a player to have a choice of going elsewhere to finish their story. Maybe they could go north or something. Or maybe turn evil. At least something you can decide on.
(edited by ArchonWing.9480)
Multiple guardians can easily support each other, since you guys have stuff like cooldowns and can’t pick every skill anyways. It’s not like condition builds where it’s capped.
It’s directly proportional to group size. So solo I don’t bother much and in large group I’m constantly spamming it, especially with renewed justice. A lot of people getting burning attacks everywhere is far better than every 5th attack of yours setting off that dinky burn.
Uh oh, that 10% boost you’ll get will sure help against that 50 person zerg.
Good thing I don’t take wvw seriously. However, wvw players can at least get ascended with their badges so they don’t need to bother with pve anymore.
No, absolutely not.
Leave stupid gear checks to other games.
It’s an awful zone. Straits is easier and Cursed has more farmable events. It also has the worst enemy types and risen trebs are everywhere.
Unless there’s temples ready to be done, I don’t see a reason to go there.
The new patch seems to have made it worse.
I mean the NPCs for the simple escort to pertinent event were getting killed practically every step. Enemies spawn and all NPCs in 2 seconds.
The Pact are complete wusses atm. I understand that NPCs shouldn’t be able to do your job, but when spawns are balanced on how many npcs there are and the fact that NPCs can wander off on their own and the monsters that slaughter them don’t despawn…. (sup Anchourage)
Many people are running fractals which would explain the LA population.
And what’s the point of arguing something that can’t be proved anyways? Oh wait, it’s the internet.
(edited by ArchonWing.9480)
This is what happens when you want to protect your gem store/in game economy at the cost of the sanity of your common player.
It’s really hard to balance. If it were too easy, nobody would need to buy anything, and almost everything would have no value. I would say our current state is still skewed to the opposite where things are just stupidly scarce.
Except for amulets, the laurel items are very unreasonably priced. Weekly serves as a decent goal for players beyond the day. Besides, anyone that’s “hardcore” will finish the monthly within a week, so they need more stuff to do anyways.
A monthly can be done in a day as long as you do not have to do dailies to complete a requirement or a daily kind of thing to complete the requirement.
This months I completed in 3 days and I had to work one of those days and I wasn’t even trying to focus on it.
Yes, I know, but it also depends on what you’re playing.
If you run fractals or do wvw, it can go really fast.
Cost of living lawl. I respec every day, sometimes more than once when I misclick. =p
Let’s see:
~2g for a set of yellows
~1g for wp?
~1g for repairs, if you really suck
~50s for food and stones
I’ve spent myself down to 20s, and I’ve never been like “uh oh, I can’t afford stuff”
Use both hands to play; it may help. Of course you won’t get any loot when you’re killing 20 mobs every hour in cleric’s gear.
Yes, the drops rates suck, but there’s also a good chance there’s player error too. I am the first to admit my playing is hardly optimized for rapid gold accumulation ( a worthless goal to me personally) since I usually just spam 1 and dodge in the enemy’s general direction.
Oh and before you say “you lucky kitten”, I’ve only had one exotic drop, ever, and that sold for a measly 2 gold. And I sell hundreds of porous bones…
Magic find does seem to help, though I’d imagine if you sacrificed too much stats and start killing like a snail, it would easily cost you. Oh wait, that’s for another thread.
(edited by ArchonWing.9480)
I’ve never experienced this “DR” before, actually. The longest I spend in an area is maybe 1-2 hours @ cursed
Congrats on liking the game. It took me a while.
Whatever you do, don’t rush to the end. Just take your time.
Except for amulets, the laurel items are very unreasonably priced. Weekly serves as a decent goal for players beyond the day. Besides, anyone that’s “hardcore” will finish the monthly within a week, so they need more stuff to do anyways.
I’ve always liked this series of meta events. Straits is a terrible zone to solo, but it changes when Balth chains start going. It is far more involved then the rest of Orr where you just kinda do random events and then spam the map when you’re near the temple. Coordination helps get this over much more smoothly.
I don’t care about difficulty, but do give us dungeons that scale from 1 to 12 people, please.
Well, let me try to look at this from the other side.
Is MF food selfish?
I prefer open world, due to the freedom. You can solo or group of your own accord, and you can leave or take a break whenever you want. I don’t think you’d make many friends if you decide to quit in the middle of a group instance regularly. =p
This should become a real event.
I’m sure a lot of people will participate.
