the reactions people have(mostly negative) are humorous. that was much was to be expected anyway.
you’d be surprised for every person with a legend that you bash as having no life IRL or cash to gold, sucks in pvp/w3 you’ll find someone with a legend that does not suck in pvp/w3, did not use their cc and has a healthy game to IRL balance.
the amount of trolling and negativity is so potent here. but again, that is to be expected due to our relations and how the internet provides that shielding called anonymity.
would most of you walk up to someone with a 8000USD suit and tell them to their face they suck in any aspect IRL because they have such(in the owner’s opinion because beauty is subjective) a nice shiny material object that it must have taken so much of their real life time to obtain it?
i wonder at how many of you who responded negatively(read: not neutral) would face to face insult someone. highly doubt it. ah the luxuries the internet provides and the resultant degradation of interpersonal relationships…
It’s pretty funny how people can judge another based on a few things too, so I think it’s pretty humorous.
And even if someone bought it— well— I still don’t care. I’ve never spent a single penny on the gem store because it goes against my philosophy of gameplay. Chances are I’m not gonna play the RNG roulette and just use the TP via in game gold in 2017, and people would still be clamouring to discredit whatever I did. However, a few hundred dollars is really nothing in the long run. I think it’s a very silly use of money, but if they have it, then whatever. And before anyone goes on some moralistic streak about how several hundred dollars could be donated to starving children in [insert country here], I’d like to remind you all, that you spent about $60 and at least dozens of hours (meaning at least several hundred dollars regardless of what you do if you had worked) on a video game and are using your free time to post from a place that has internet on an activity that doesn’t really contribute anything but serve as ego boosting.
It’s a good thing this isn’t the kind of game where you need to grind through 50 different gear tiers and some would have to p2w.

The point of the aesthetic grind is for those that don’t want to engage in it can just to opt out and still perform ingame at peak efficiency. If legendaries were superior, then people who didn’t partake in it would suffer a disadvantage. I doubt a wvw player would want to go through all that pve content just for that.
I am glad that Gw2 doesn’t really have too much of this mindless gear treadmill crap.

On the other hand, why can’t we have less skimpy light armor?
Why can’t we have more majestic wizard-robes that don’t feel the need to always expose legs or chest?
I think this post really points out the issues there. The variety is lacking.
For me personally, skimpy isn’t inherently bad. However, skimpy + lame = tacky, which is terrible.
And yes, I’m looking at those silly robes that are like buttcapes and focus on exposing tons of chest and legs for no reason other than to show skin. When you draw attention like that, it serves no other reason than to demean. It’s the kind of stuff that no sane character should be caught wearing, dead or alive even if it gave 1000% magic find. Might as well fight in their underwear. :/
On the opposite side, we have heavy armor that covers one’s character up so badly that it’s hard to even distinguish them apart (and thus making most of character customization worthless) and makes you look really stupid looking in town or underwater. I pretty much despise all the helms. Or you can have some chainmail underwear. :/
tl;dr I want my characters to look good, and not have to look like a underwear model to accomplish it.

I don’t think it’s unreasonable to want to scale these things due to all the new things coming in especially now that they decided to tie in progression with it. Before when it didn’t, they could be completely arbitary and meaningless, but now I think a little balance is in order. Legendaries should be worth more. And before anyone complains, just take a look at WvW achievements. :/

Supposedly there’s technical limitations due to having to keep track of each stack on everyone, but reality suggests that 25 stacks was too easy to reach.
I just don’t think this was well planned.
It’s really insulting when I read that this is some kind of technical limitation, when WvW is a technical marvel by itself and a single PvE world boss is like the logarithm of the complexity thereof.
They ought to just be honest and say: “we want more spec diversity.” Ok, that’s fine, but if you’re going to do that in such a fashion, you have to make sure that you’re not excluding a spec entirely by default as the expected number of players rises.
This isn’t such a difficult problem to solve either. Increasing the cap to 50 for world bosses would not fundamentally change the game.
I rolled my eyes too when reading that. In any case, it wasn’t well planned and they don’t know what to do. Meanwhile, 60 people in berserker gear will do tons of more damage, but condition people… nope screw them.
for there you have been and there you will long to return.
It is imbalanced, but when I play PvE it doesn’t trouble me that a class can do something better than mine in certain areas of the game. That’s to be expected if we want variety. The only problem is when all the game excessively rewards those few areas of the game and only those few.

I don’t really have much of a problem for that. In fact, I would be quite desensitized if a new earth shattering threat comes every 2 weeks. A story needs to have ups and downs— trying to have constant climaxes doesn’t really work.
In fact, the worst kind of storytelling involves constantly arriving, stronger threats. The reason this is true is because it trivializes the threats that were taken down, just like how you can never view level 5 centaurs as a threat anymore.
And thus, the world isn’t one of just constant combat. People need to celebrate every now and then, after all, otherwise they’d go insane from the stress. I suppose they could make a storyline about fallen heroes gone insane due to inability to make a living, but hey…

I usually dislike slow movement so I now use dagger/warhorn with spectral walk for 0/15/0/25/30, and I indeed ditched greater marks. Rest is Well of Power (Another stunbreak) and Suffering for some damage.
Flashing in and out of DS for 3 sec Stability/fury is pretty cool though Deathly Perception can be used for easier stuff.
All Zerker, my necro is not my main, so she sports no ascended besides the amulet and I’m too lazy to change anything for wvw either…. with mixed results, but it’s great at defending towers or holding back from behind a group.

This is indeed a really good build. Why?
This isn’t pve where crowds stand around and let you hit them. A lot of your dps will be wasted because people MOVE and DODGE. So, one cannot just focus on getting the biggest numbers. If you lack survivability and utility, you will die. Not only that, you will fail your group. 30 spite is nice damage, but spite is almost nothing but damage besides the minor that lets you regain health on kill. What could you give up by putting points anywhere else?
Warhorn + Spectral Walk provides extreme mobility. That alone makes it strong. If you want to lead a group, you want to be mobile. Nobody cares about how much damage you bring if your objective cannot be captured in time.
Also, the goal of a wellmancer is to provide area control. You want to control the battlefield to your allies’ advantage. This is why you need cooldowns. Your allies need you and they certainly aren’t going to wait for your cooldowns, because they could probably die already. That incidental vampiric bonus adds up, since you have no problems with hitting stuff.
Likewise CC is extremely powerful because it takes control away from the players. Chilling Darkness is just that good. The utility it offers to your group outweighs individual damage you could provide.
It is due to this that running without ground targeted wells is a terrible joke. Do you really want to be invalidated due to elevation? It’s not just tower defense. WvW isn’t completely flat. Thus it is quite essential for this build.
My own well build, which really isn’t worthy of being discussed due to nubness here has a large emphasis on damage, but yet since I’ve actually played a necro in wvw I can see why this build works.

Ultimately think of it like this; you’re job isn’t to heal the party, it is to keep them from needing healing in the first place.
I want this build for my guardian…
30 virtues, you’re welcome.
Back on topic, I think Tome of Courage is a most excellent source of healing, at least in wvw including the ability to fully recover entire groups. Sure the cooldown is very long but it’s not you don’t have any other methods (staff 4, shield 5), and just rolling around. All the little bits add up.
One just has to not take it literally and realize that support “aka keeping people alive longer” is on par with healing because in both cases you’re making it longer for people to hit the floor. What is the difference anyways? If you cannot comprehend this, then you probably are a failure as a guardian and should reroll like a thief or something.

OP, you are clearly wrong. Only 90% of the game is it hard to earn gold. You should only mindlessly farm the 5% of the game that actually matters…
The real problem isn’t that gold is hard to find, but the rewards to risk ratio is entirely busted. The game should reward you for playing it, but instead in reality you are rewarded for “farming” a few areas of the game disproportionately compared to the rest.
Ideally, diminishing returns was to force the player to seek out a variety of content to play the entire game to maintain decent loot. In reality though, it has mostly ruined open world loot, Take Orr, an area that is supposed to be heart-free and consisting totally of dynamic events— well, at this point it’s only half right— leaving people to farm the simplest dungeons or to farm world bosses, which is actually a terrible way of getting loot, but beggars can’t be choosers.
Instead, the game needs to promote a more variety of risk vs reward, where harder content actually gets rewarded more, etc.
It’s okay though. At least most of you don’t wvw a lot, where everyone grinds for a green item and a few silver in the hopes that it’ll offset their food costs.

Don’t confuse viable with optimal. If you are skillful enough to avoid damage, then you can focus on killing faster. This isn’t the first game where this has occured. Once merely beating the content has been achieved, people seek to do it better and faster. And that way is more DPS. But that’s where people confuse it. Berserker gear doesn’t make you better. You have to get better to use it (and not die).
But the thing here is that instances are fixed and thus more predictable. Open World is still pretty predictable and trivial enough to not be valid to this discussion outside of those group events. With enough experience, you will know that boss’s attack works in a certain way and be able to plan accordingly. And indeed against opponents that aren’t completely brain dead and at least slightly predictable, such as other players, suddenly zerker isn’t all the jazz.
There are of course those that react fast enough to overcome these issues anyways and understand the game enough to deal with any issues, but I think those tend to be more exceptional than those that have just memorized one farming path essentially.

“You’re a noob if you don’t play exactly like me”
Ignore them. Any time someone says something dubious without proof besides they’ve been playing since beta, they’re not worth talking about. Yea, i really want in game messages to reflect what actually happens. Off by 10 minutes; fine. But that…
for there you have been and there you will long to return.
It’s a combination of poor loot + repair costs. In PvE, repair costs are trivial due to the amount of vendor junk piling up. WvW can be a lot more unreliable depending on how well your server is doing and a lot of wvw players probably don’t bank gold from elsewhere.
I’d imagine is worse for the non-karma trainers, and you wonder why pugs just head for the biggest fights.
And then those structure upgrades cost a pretty penny too.

Guardians are crazy strong in any pvp format, be it spvp or wvw. small group, large group, gvg, or zerg v zerg Guardians have a roll for each type of engagement. My personal playstyle preference is running meditations and being in the middle of the enemy pinning them in place with ring of warding + the immobilizes on hammer and scepter. Hell, you can even solo roam pretty easily as well. Just keep a staff in your backpack (if you don’t use it as your secondary weapon) and you can cross the maps easily. So yes, Guardians can wvw kitten well.
People won’t like hearing this, but I have to say it. The reason that guardians are so viable isn’t something inherit in the class. It’s the players, and the forums where those players congregate. Go look at some of the other forums. Their idea of math is “well this feels good”. Here we have good theory crafting discussions pretty much daily. It also isn’t a constant “QQ buff me nerf everyone else”. We all know the limitations we face, we are also all adult enough (mostly) to know QQing isn’t going to change anything. So for the most part we just figure ways around those limitations.
I tell people in game this plenty, the Guardian forums are the best. These players, and forums, are why guardians are in such a good spot. If the other professions had players/forums (necro is close) as helpful as the Guardian forums I don’t think they would be in such a “bad state” either.
edit: That isn’t to say we don’t have trolls sadly. Guardian is an awesome profession, and it can do lots of little things. Where it shines is that you have the choice to specialize. Do you want to go into support, straight damage, conditions, mitigation, avoidance etc. That’s why I say it’s the forums/players that make it great. They have all theorycrafted out builds for these that let you pick and choose. They also give you the information you need to make an accurate choice.
Ah, so instead of whiners and complainers that moan about what they can’t do, there are people here that wonder about what they CAN do. And thus succeeded.

Hi, that’s a familiar name we have here. Wanna play together? The easiest way to boost damage is to take 10 in zeal for burning wrath and it’ll happen on its own. Virtue of Justice is so expendable that you can just spam it most fights, especially in any group ones. And 100 power/cond damage is trivial at level 80 but big at low levels.
Both focus and shield are good offhands, but focus is better in close combat I feel. I prefer to use shield with scepter since the knockback isn’t too good unless you’re fighting ranged.
As for utility, I don’t think you can ever mess up with shouts.

It’s not really my style, but I wanted to give it a try (I didn’t even optimize the gear, just used my pve crap).
This build is just amazing and it’s mainly due to it being highly flexible. It’s hard to describe it beyond the fact that it works just like that. Everyone who steps into wvw with the intent of running around taking people down needs to try it.
It also uses the coolest weapons guardians have, so it’s quite stylish too.
for there you have been and there you will long to return.
I am pretty sure that you could do any trait spread as long as it was in multiples of 10 and you could make it work on a Guardian in PvE. Feel free to post one that doesn’t.
for there you have been and there you will long to return.
Everyone can say you that there’s a lot of good build, and that’s true. But the Guardian’s not the best class of the game. Expecially for PvP.
For PvE you can’t play as DPS. You’r healt is very low (like ele and thief) and in berserker build you’ve not all that ability to heal and evade damage like other classes. But you can output a very good dps. not the best of the game, but whit the GS you can hit like a warrior. But you’ve too low healt to survive like a warrior and you’re easy to be downed, expacially by some boss.
If you want to be useful in PvE you Must be the Tank-Support. High defence, healing symbols, shout everywhere. You can be the rock that a party need to kill a large number of boss, but you Must be a Tank. I’ve try to go in dungeon whit some DPS guardians, but they fall down easy.
If you want, you can try an Hybrid like Armor Soldier and weapons+trinket Knight, to increase your critical rate but obtain a good vitality. In spvp, actually, you’re useless. If you want to play spvp (expecially tspvp) learn to use a necro bunker, a ele bunker, a engi or a mesmer, but you can’t do a good work whit a guardian. Too much condition damage. You’ve a very low pool of hp to fight a good player whit a condition build. (expecially necro, mesmer or ranger)
In wvsw you’re good to give swiftness, might and stability+retalation. But no more.
At last: there’s a lot of good build, but you can’t be the DPS of the group, because you’ve too low hp. You can play as tank, or supporter tank, or hybrid.
We are nothing but boon bots in wvw? Have you not looked at our skills beyond shouts? We have multiple skills that specialize in area denial. Like you know, prevent people from entering an area to get free res’s? 0/0/10/30/30 is not just to live longer. You are not just a rock. You are a gigantic pothole that wrecks anyone that tries to speed over it. Guardians, much like necros, have extreme ability to influence bigger fights. We can make a difference merely by existing in a fight.
I get the feeling that people who claim that guardians must be tanks often never set them up besides that way. It leads to a weak mentality and any attempts at “trying” more dps are half hearted.
Guardians can do many things. But one of our class specialities is support. We can prop others up and with the way we do it has nothing to do with being a tank or dps.
I offer my allies in wvw condition conversion, +150 toughness to those around me, might on crit, stability, speed, and aegis, and plenty of protection. By reducing the damage group wide, it doesn’t matter a bit if I go down a bit more if everyone else survives longer. Oh, and I can definitely down people from 1200 range, so yea. =p
Saying one should mindlessly full dps is definitely bad. It ignores what we can offer as guardians. The other extreme is much less the same. We aren’t warriors, but we can still send them reeling back home.

for there you have been and there you will long to return.
I’ve tried a few variants.
It might seem tempting to do something like 0/30/10/0/30 as you can really just take people down with life blasts but you also die to like everything so if you’re not careful or are lagging I wouldn’t recommend it to someone that just started out. I recommend trying it at least once just for laughs though. 30/10/10/20/0 is nice if you use an axe, otherwise I find 0/30/20/20/0 or 0/10/30/30/0 to be most well rounded. The last two have very high survivability because you have so much utility (protection spam, siphon ability, and the later can even take vampiric wells). And wells. And there’s DS on top so you don’t need to worry that much. From experience, dagger is quite nice thanks to the immobilize skills. In larger fights I tend to just stick with staff.
I like target the weak though. This is because people almost always have conditions on them (or you can force it with corruption) so that 2% really stacks up.
As a necro, you will rarely die to direct damage thanks to DS. Your primary killers are going to be running out of life force, conditions, and stuns. Note the first is usually caused by the other two. Thus, well of power is a very critical component. Spectral walk can also be really useful. (Last is obviously suffering)
I like using dagger offhand for some reason, mainly for aoe weakness, and the condition transfer blind comes in handy. I also trait withering precision for some extra weakness on people. Warhorn is nice for running faster though.
In any case, most balanced wellmancers can bring a lot of stuff to the table. In zerg or tower situations where you can just stand back and unload skills, this becomes very easy for you to really screw up the opposing side.

You don’t solve the problem by killing zerker. People just bandwagon to the next fotm.
What you need to do is somehow find a way to make toughness and vit and healing power help. I’m thinking of something endurance related but it could be hard to balance.
Though tbh, if I wanted to be “forced” into anything, zerker isn’t too awful since that makes the pace faster and forces you to dodge more. Problem is when this feels like the only pace.
you cant make toughness, vitality, or healing power viable in pve because the whole design of pvp is dodge to avoid damage, if your not taking any significant damage then why invest anything in defensive stats
I thought they were gonna be balanced separately?

Maybe there could be different emphases in each dungeon? Maybe have a DPS dungeon, a condition damage dungeon and so on? I’m thinking specifically of the different areas of the Underworld and FoW in GW1: you had some with heavy enchantment removal, others with lots of snares, and so on.
Problem with that is once one gets accustomed to the instance, then maximizing damage will always be the first priority unless you make stuff undodgable which would be bad too.

It does not add to the gameplay. Time gating things does not add to the gameplay either. It’s just a cheap way to force people to log in every day without actually providing new content. With us getting content every 2 weeks, why is it needed? I’m baffled. This is not what I wanted when I started playing this game. This is not what I signed up for.
I don’t know if I abandon the game or not. I know that this is a taboo on the forums with you getting called names for it, but hearing about how much of a time gate this will be I just feel like giving up. And this is my favorite game! I was going to buy gems to buy the flute today. I think I’ll hold off now. Not because I don’t want to support the game, but because I don’t know how long I’ll be playing. That will be decided by how this system will be implemented. I mean I could leave and pick Tera back up. If I’ll want the top tier sword I’ll need to buy lots of extensive alkahest and re-try the upgrading over and over and over again. However if I farmed money it will only take me a day to do it. Not a whole time gated year. The problem with leaving this game is I love it. I love the new achievement rewards. I love the way how you can do whatever you want. But… The expensive whole new tier being rolled out just like this with a time gate on top… It makes me lose all of my energy. It gives me the bitter taste of being left behind in WoW again. And I don’t want any more of those bad memories. So instead of changing the game that I’m playing I want this game to change. I want it to be friendly to us. I want to be as happy as I was 3 hours ago before reading the news.
The time gating thing, and difficulty of acquiring it leads to certain problems.
IMO, it restricts freedom of play. Currently exotic gear is interchangeable enough so you can change builds fairly easily. You can carry multiple gear sets and experiment with different builds at the drop of a dime with an inexpensive re trait fee.
Time gating it makes it so if you want gear, you have to commit to it. If you go rabid and decide you want berserker later, well, uh oh, all your time is now wasted.
Well, one could say “Why not just have ascended sets mixed with your exotic gear” then. Well that would work too, but I feel that you’re going to be wearing the “stronger” set if they are of different tiers. Take my guardian who has ascended jewelry and has a MF infusion vs my necro that has none. The difference isn’t that big and my necro is hardly crippled, but the benefits of playing the better geared character do add up slowly.
The other problem is that the marginal differences assumes that people all have full exotic. That just completely ignores everyone with yellow gear. No longer can I really say, “Well, you don’t need to spend a ton on exotics, just buy some affordable yellow, and you’re almost BIS”. Nope, the gakitten ignificant and people still decked out in yellows— I doubt they’re going to be the run Cof1 type.
The way I see it, the new gear will require more grind than exotics, since the only group it caters to is the grind/progression-minded. It will also be more expensive, and as I’ve stated above creates a noticeable gear gap between BIS and mediocre geared.
This is the utmost limits this game should take. Any more is going to make the problem worse. I don’t mind token stat boosts like infusions since it takes forever for it to mean anything. Anything bigger can and will cause problems.
I’m not really afraid of being left behind myself. I played the same way when I had only yellows/oranges so as long as they don’t do anything like scale up the difficulty, I should be good. But my point is to ask that is adding this gear tier really adding anything to the game? Yes, I know ascended was meant to be there, but in practice, the changes to the game as it is right now should be questioned.
My biggest concern overall is that they are adding so much stuff when they have trouble getting the stuff they have already correctly.
If they had just made the to be added ascended known before hand, and that it was the final tier in strength, I don’t think anyone would have complained. But yeah, ascended things can be kind of annoying with the time gated stuff. Luckily some of them, like rings, only take about a week each.
I actually agree. But since what’s done is done and people have skinned their exotic armor and created gear sets out of it, the effect will be different then introducing ascended as opposed to it already being there.
Time gating and limited ways to acquire remain troublesome.
for there you have been and there you will long to return.
