for there you have been and there you will long to return.

Okay, so I understand that ultimately, whether or not I get full ascended isn’t going to impact matters too much. Even WvW really isn’t going to matter that much since numbers will still dominate.
But here’s the problem. What exactly does bringing in ascended armor and weapons add to gameplay besides bigger numbers and giving you some busy work to do? Rings were for fractals, amulets were revolving laurels and laurel infusions, and earrings… I don’t know about earrings. This can hardly be considered meaningful content, except by making crafting relevant again.
Well, ok we don’t know yet. But we do know a few things.
We’ll begin regularly adding new skills and traits to the game for each profession to expand your characters and builds! You will be able to earn these new traits and skills by unlocking them. To go along with this, we’ll expand the content and options to earn skill points to help encourage players to experience different challenges and content throughout the world. These skills and traits will be designed to be balanced with the existing skills/traits we currently have in the game, and will simply compliment and expand the range of abilities and tactics available to each profession. Both WvW and PvE players can acquire skills and traits, and additional means of earning skill points will be addressed for both core content areas.
Now why exactly was this needed? Well, this is a natural side effect of vertical progression. Your numbers get inflated, and the content naturally has to be adjusted otherwise the game gets somewhat trivialized. As gear gets better, the same content gets easier. So new content, bigger numbers to “challenge” people with better gear. I don’t think it’ll be balanced around green gear anymore.
There’s nothing inherently wrong with this. In many ways they were wise to dilute the already marginal stat boosts with more traits. The higher your base value is, the less gear matters. But the problem is that a lot of you might agree that the current system isn’t balanced already, so tossing more stuff on top of it is quite dubious.
Point is, balance is something extremely difficult to achieve, and even small changes can move mountains. It’s not something that can just be rushed out, and I sincerely hope that they will give this more time and don’t try to rush it out, while thinking of the consequences. Ultimately, this means more then doing 10% more damage.
So back to the question, what does vertical progression add to gameplay? Well, when you’re first starting out in a game, it can be jarring to throw you in the fire. So you start out with minimal features to not confuse you and gain more power and abilities as you advance. In many ways the leveling and gearing process were the training wheels of the game. But at this point when you’re 80 and spent some time getting gear, is that really needed anymore?
(edited by ArchonWing.9480)
Mirta you are simply assuming at this point….how about you wait to see. No you will assume. They have added new avenues to obtain ascended gear. Nothing says that you won’t be able to aquire ascended armor through other means than just crafting. But the QQ’rs thrive on assumptions.
I’m assuming because I was here for the previous ascended gear. I’m assuming because all of the current ascended gear has about only 2 ways of getting it and all of those ways are different. There’s still no way to get the trinkets and amulets trough fractals.
They specifically said the gear would be available in drops, and you get drops in fractals dont you? so you can keep running them. What they didnt say anywhere in the blog post, was that fractals would advance past 50, so there is no NEED for the gear anyhow. I’m just hoping fractal armor has some decent new skins for medium I’d grind for a year to get decent looking medium armor
It dropping is quite nice, but they’d really have to readjust the drop rates a lot for this to work.
We specifically said we don’t want to get caught up in the trap where every 3-6 months the game adds another tier of gear to the game; that invalidates all your hard work and the rewards you’ve earned.
O rly? And then a bunch of progression is inserted.
Needless to say, I can’t say I’m happy with these things. Well, as long as they can be sold on the TP and no account bound BS I’ll be alive.
but it is account bound. Only T7 is sellable on the TP.
Wait what? Weapons and armor too?
Previously I didn’t have to waste time on tedious crafting since I could just pick what I wanted off the TP.
That’s just irritating.
Well, my view that this entire tier is a load of crap that just goes against everything that makes this game fun just got cemented.
I guess I can toss my pirate runes.
We specifically said we don’t want to get caught up in the trap where every 3-6 months the game adds another tier of gear to the game; that invalidates all your hard work and the rewards you’ve earned.
I have trouble taking that sincerely, since all I see is treadmill.
Needless to say, I can’t say I’m happy with these things. Well, as long as they can be sold on the TP and no account bound BS I’ll be alive.
Terrible behavior. Report them for exploiting you like that.
Well, guesting exists, so I don’t see an issue.
Assuming that you could play on content hosted on a server regardless of where you came from.
I solo a lot, since I afk a lot and like to go at my own pace. There’s also no one to blame but yourself. The one thing I don’t like to group with randoms is when things go south and it must be someone’s fault. Regardless of who’s fault it is, it just makes the whole experience crappy.
This is also why I prefer large groups too, since failure there tends to result in comedy.
Though I like to do temporary teams if someone needs help doing something. That’s always fun though. Getting people in a group to mindlessly grind a dungeon? No thanks!
Dear Anet,
Please stop putting PvE rewards where they don’t belong. It makes absolutely no sense in gameplay especially when it’s time limited. I understand that wvw is effectively an extension of PvE but let’s try to at least keep a facade.
Sincerely,
Archon_Wing
Putting aside the point that achievement point competing is silly. At least to the level of complaining about it. People that didn’t play GW don’t seem to understand what the HoM is truly for and the reasons for it. Those that were GW players for a long time may still consider the skins and X00 points less than expected.
I’d put in several thousand hours into GW by the time just its third birthday was coming up. The game was still fresh, alive and we had the new campaigns every six months to look forward to. Then they sprang the news of GW2 and just one last expansion/campaign to come (Eye of the North with the Hall of Monuments). Once EotN was out for a while a lot of people stopped playing knowing that was the last major addition. Others continued to work on HoM stuff. So now they have players like myself with +5000 hours invested in a youngish game that they decided to put on ‘support status’ to create a new game. They told us from the announcement og GW2 that we would not be able to port characters or gold and items. Consolation for us was the HoM and many played many hours so we would earn the rewards. In tbe end, while some of the skins are nice, they’re not as nice as a lot of new stuff so few are used. The increase in achievement points is nice of them but I doubt many that maxed out HoM will say it’s everything they hoped for or expected. Had those complaining been there through it all they wouldn’t be either.
Thanks for a good answer.
It’s not like im mad at them for rewarding GW1 players but i think that achievment points are the wrong kind of award since it ruins the leaderboard.
And to everyone saying that the leaderboard is a joke, that’s just the worst argument ever. Just because you can’t understand it doesnt mean u have to insult it.
Old dailies can not be compared to Hall of monuments since old dailies are still apart of THIS game and not an old one. I missed alot of points on the old dailies and on old living stories, but it doesnt bother me since it is still something that happened in the game i bought.
The leaderboard being a joke is not the worst argument ever. Feel free to explain it so it can be understood. In other words establish that by design, it was suited to define player skills or indicate a competitive structure. Otherwise, indicate that it affects gameplay to a significant degree.
And this actually is critical. If you can’t establish the leaderboard as a legitimate source of competition that affects gameplay, then you have no place in making large changes that affect people.
And I have made suggestions that would make the leaderboards marginally more legitimate + preserve the 500 points so I can’t see any disadvantages to it (ie, seasonal reset). And yes, I would support not having these points being part of the leaderboard. However, as long as AP and leaderboards are joined together like this, I can’t support any change.

Ah, that’s astute of you.
A lot of us on SBI are usually pugs just looking for fun, so it’s only natural we pop around in our pve gear. I’d imagine a lot are just running to the zerg, lol.
(edited by ArchonWing.9480)
WvW is not the center of the universe!
Sadly, it does seem to be, and the worst problem is that guesting on big servers for PvE is incredibly effective and for large group events, the easiest way to get stuff, as well as misc stuff such as temple vendors.
On the other hand, it’s probably a good thing for people to leave if they don’t want to be there. No point in keeping people that are incompatible with your server, and fairweathers are useless anyways.
But the nature of the server stacking has seen problems. They really need to slash or even remove gem transfer fees to low rank/pop servers to help repopulate them. Bigger bonuses for outmanned, etc…
Of course, I’m of the opinion that people say something is dying, too soon, and bolt too fast, causing a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Things will settle. StormbluffIsle dropped down the tiers when people left in droves and it looked horrific for the longest time with like 2 people in EB or whatnot and outmanned continuously on. It’s still very alive today though and at least pve is well populated as well as PvE extension (aka EB)
Anyhow, I’m sure AR will find its place. You guys had some really good small groups. I’ve never seen individuals and small groups from other servers run circles around me and proceed to slam my face in the ground so badly before, lol.

It’s just not a priority. The thing is its current state is fluff, and the sooner you realize it, the better off you will be. There’s no conceivable reason to think that the leaderboard was in any way balanced for competitive purposes. It will take time to think of something else.
They will get around to fix it, with the obvious solution of doing periodic resets. But stuff takes time.
I’m not sure how easy it would be to fix the points now that the rewards have been given. I mean, they’d have to roll back rewards from your account (including both skins, laurels and gold which you might have spent long ago). Not sure how they’d do that.
An easier solution would probably be to go and play GW1 if people want those extra rewards to stay competative. I know I am giving GW1 another go to do it, so I’m not sure why you couldn’t either? Not sure why it’s more silly than to be “forced” to do either WvW or PvP to stay ahead in the “achievement points” race. But eh, complaining is easier I guess. Better take other peoples toys so they can still stay ahead.
It’s not reasonable to expect someone to pick up a completely different game.
OP is referring exclusively to the leaderboard. I don’t really see how it’d be hard to change the leaderboard, in concept at least. There must be a way to separate the leaderboards from the total AP
Leaderboard season 1:
You started with 4000 AP and ended with 6700 AP. 6700-4000= score is 2700
No rollbacks needed though of course technical limitations apply.
It’s just not a priority. The thing is its current state is fluff, and the sooner you realize it, the better off you will be. There’s no conceivable reason to think that the leaderboard was in any way balanced for competitive purposes. It will take time to think of something else.

Lol, I should try to start a character that gets to 80 exclusively in Queensdale with an occasional mists trip. Sadly time gate. >.>
Nothing wrong with being a completionist.
There is something wrong when people want to change the game to suit that need though, especially the leaderboard crybabies when they want to take away other people’s points because they don’t approve of how it’s acquired. In games that are actually competitive, we tend to call these people scrubs. If you are upset about your lack of success, complain and whine loudly, while not thinking of a way to change your approach and hone your skills therefore never having a chance to improve, you are a scrub. These aren’t completionists— they want to twist the game so they can complete it.
Like every game, there are many scrubs. These people often paint the game in black and white, usually arriving at the inevitable conclusion that the game is rigged against them and if the game was fair they would completely own everyone. They will often trivialize the game play and saying that “any idiot could do it if they spammed mouseclicks/1”. What they don’t realize is that by doing this, they are making themselves look even worse when they can’t overcome something so banal. So it doesn’t matter if Guild Wars 2 is banal and easy. They’re still mediocre at a banal and easy game. Whoops. Nothing has changed. If one really saw a “competition” such as the leaderboard to be banal and meaningless, then if they had any so called “skill”, they would know better and not participate in such a farce.
This is not to say this game is perfect, because it is far from perfect. It is fine to complain about unfun or broken mechanics but one must approach the issues like a human with a brain and give thoughtful analysis rather than excuses. It’s how humanity has survived til today and dominated the planet despite not being the fastest, strongest, or toughest. It’s because we sometimes used our brains and used it to overcome a situation that would have normally killed us. So…. use it. Adapt, and if it doesn’t work, then it’s out of your control so push for change.
Fact is, a lot of people just play in their own corner of the game and don’t realize everyone plays differently, yet they want to twist and contort the game to reward only what they consider suitable (their little corner) at the detriment to others. There is no need to accede to such entitled demands. I also play in my little corner, but I’m not going to vandalize everyone else’s space. It’s no less pitiful then people who only play 1 profession and demand other professions get nerfed despite the fact that they have no idea how it works.
Just people who see competition in everything and want to put themselves above others but are too afraid to go into the mists.
And then there is the true completionist who just does this for their own personal goals and enjoyment. Not a thing wrong with that.
(edited by ArchonWing.9480)
It’s because of that stupid champion achievement.
Anyhow, It’s only natural people flock to Queensdale. It’s a superior endgame zone than Cursed Shore ever was since it has a large variety of events and beautiful looking terrain and is generally a pleasant place to be. Where else are you gonna go?
And indeed, regardless of logic, this system is inconsistent and unintuitive. People shouldn’t have to use other MMOs as reference.
There are no pros to keeping this whatsoever, only cons.
Hmm, a bit mixed on this. I do agree having such rare stats is sorta bad, but on the other hand these stats sorta suck anyways and come across as a novelty to me.
Take the points out of radiance. Radiance is mediocre without at least 15 points in it for justice spam, that is only good against trash mobs until you have 25 for radiant power.
Instead, put points in virtues (Master of Consecrations and Reflect Wall are invaluable in fractals) or stick them in Zeal for 10% more damage against burning enemies, and replace Purity with Strength in Numbers (great idea by the above poster). Because of the flat bonus, this helps low armor builds such as zerker get around more, plus you make everyone survive longer. I would choose to throw out purity, as you already have pure of voice and a shout build— you don’t need more cleansing unless it was wvw.
If that still doesn’t work, I recommend you drop the melee tank aspect and try a 0/30 (Right Handed Strength)/10 (Strength in Numbers)/30 (same as you already have)/0 build with scepter and 1h sword. The reason for this is that I believe you are not dying to sustained damage which AH counteracts, but high spike damage. (at least that’s how I felt when playing.) You can just range enemies with scepter and it does pretty sick damage with the high crit you will have. I also feel that having both shield and focus offhands will boost your survivability. You won’t get downed as easily if you don’t have to face them directly, plus you still provide good support, though I admit it’s not nearly as exciting.

“Unique”
Why didn’t you look it up in a dictionary or online translator if you did not understand what it meant.
By your unquestionable logic, then you shouldn’t have been able to buy a duplicate due to it being unique. There should have only been one of them. Buying another should have caused the universe to implode.
The dictionary has forsaken us. What do we do?
This again lol.
The zerker stuff typically centers around dungeons, especially when people want speedruns and to a lot of them, committing the simple crime of picking whatever is not fotm is illegal. In open world (doesn’t really matter what you wear) and wvw, the situation is quite different. In PvE, mostly, monsters usually just stand there and let you dps them and the biggest threat is highly damaging, unthinkable attacks that you’re better off dodging anyways. Thus killing them fast is needed so less accidents can happen. (Of course, what a lot of people don’t tell you is that they skip most of the mobs anyways, which is very telling).
No matter how stupid another player is, they will sometimes, indeed move away from your attacks, so your attacks are not all guaranteed to hit. So you can’t just blah blah1000000 damage on them with telegraphed moves.
Though ironically, in wvw the inverse (soldier’s) is considered that or gtfo, but I don’t really agree with that either.
Granted, I feel if you don’t know what you’re doing, you’re most likely better off with zerker. It’s never a bad choice to hurt an enemy.
(edited by ArchonWing.9480)
Yea I’m confused myself, since that would have been the only reason.
My guess it is to annoy people then.
IMO, buying an ascended piece should permanently remove it from the list for that character until you destroy or infuse it
I have a much simpler solution. Remove the Unique tag from those items – they do absolutely nothing besides causing a lot of misunderstandings.
It’s true. It’s even better than my suggestion,
However, if they had realized this, then it would have never been an issue to begin with. >.>
Ah, while good, is not mandatory, unless you like, lack the proficiency to keep pressing 1 or not spending trait points, or wearing blue gear. But if that were true, chances are you would probably be pretty useless with AH too, so at least do some damage. It’s strongly recommended to stop using AH for a bit, so you lose the weak mindset of “omg guardian must sustain and tank!”
Anyhow, radiant power is really good, espeically if combined with that fire trait, so 10 zeal and 25 radiance, and the rest is w/e. 10/30/0/30/0 is very solid and sturdy with Pure of Voice going. I currently do 20/30/0/20/0 with GS power— that new buff to the trait is nice for survival too and sometimes the best defense is just killing your enemy. Or you can try 10/30/10/20/0 and take Strength in Numbers. With the new buff, it’s about a 5% damage reduction not just to you, but your allies. More so if they are in zerker. You made everyone survive longer by merely existing. That’s something AH can’t do. Oh, and you actually output damage.
I haven’t even talked about the virtues tree for group support, but I guess people are just going “omg it doesn’t giev stats, crappy tree!”
(edited by ArchonWing.9480)
Most changes to the game since launch can be traced to player complaints. To name a few:
FotM & Ascended Gear: “I’ve gotten my dungeon set, I have nothing to work for! There’s no endgame!”
Laurels & Ascended Gear: “I want access to the best gear without having to do a dungeon I don’t like!”
Changes to Dailies/Monthlies: “I don’t think I should have to do x to get the daily/monthly. I don’t like doing x!”
Guaranteed Rares for meta event participation: “No one does the meta events because the rewards are kitten!”
Giving incentives to move players into different zones: “No one goes into many of the zones, they feel empty!”
Even the nerf to ranger pets can be traced to complaints about bunker/BM rangers in PvP.
Ah, grindbug infestation. Don’t bother feeding those that can never be satiated.
The players were handed this by Anet— they didn’t ask for it. If they asked for more, that would be greed.
Sadly, a lot of those defending ANets choice are just asking for even more.
And that’s why if someone asked for more, they should be ignored. But I hardly think that’s the point of contention.
And, if you were given something and perhaps notice that it may just be more than might have been intended, the modest thing would be to return it, while the greedy thing would be to try anything to keep it.
Sure, but there sure needs to be a compelling reason to define it as “more than intended”.
If it was more then intended, then Arena net will correct the issue. And this is between the receivers and Arenanet, not between others that have decided to push down this arbitrary moral judgement upon others in which they have no business in deciding.
What a good post. This is how someone should offer criticism.
The depth of a game is often correlated with MEANINGFUL choices that one makes. The problem as you stated is that while we have so many skills, that most of them are not worth interrupting the auto attack chain for, meaning that we put more effort into less effect. This is bad. The necromancer is especially guilty of this, because even though they do pretty good damage, it’s also a lot of 111111111111. To make matters worse, only the third attack in the auto chain
This is also why Guardian Sword is so much more boring than GS.
Limit supply = protect economy
It also has the side effect of making people miserable, but alas…
Protect what economy, only the raw quartz is tradeable !
the charged quartz and the gear you can make is all account bound !protect the economy my kitten !
this is a blatant bad attempt at making you take longer to acquire armor and weapons !
even than, this 1 per day is not so bad if you only play 1 character, but, it totally sucks big time if you dare play more than 1 character that needs/ wants this armor or weapons, that’s my real issue with this kitten 1 per day BS, it punishes you harshly for having multiple characters that you actually play
Wait, it’s all account bound?
So I can’t just be lazy and buy the product of the TP.
Well, no celestial stuffs for me. >.>
Greed lol.
The players were handed this by Anet— they didn’t ask for it. If they asked for more, that would be greed.
Greed would be like, seeing some one have something you don’t have, and covet it.
Off the moral high horse everyone.
Oh, and I have never touched Gw1 before.
And I’m starting to agree with people who want to remove the leaderboards. There’s too many busy bodies around here. Or at the very least a periodic.
You can try to file a ticket.
In before people chastise you for not understanding arbitrary MMO terminology despite the fact you can equip two identical blue or green or yellow or orange rings.
IMO, buying an ascended piece should permanently remove it from the list for that character until you destroy or infuse it, because otherwise, what’s the point of even allowing that option except to screw you over?
Well, OP has a point. I think certain combinations aren’t available from ascended gear?
And there should be more ways to get earrings. Maybe earrings for badges? Or allow them to be in fractals? Or do we just want people leeching off large guilds?
Limit supply = protect economy
It also has the side effect of making people miserable, but alas…
You most likely feel weak because …
- as everyone said, yellow gear is a bit weaker
- As you said, this is COF, and I can’t be psychic but I’m guessing people are skipping mobs, leaving you behind, and in a bad spot? Get a swiftness skill somewhere (Warhorn, Locust Signet, Spectral Walk, Quickening thirst with dual daggers). Moving faster also is a pretty big advantage when fighting too.
It is not kitten at all. =p I think it’ll work fine and you are well balanced for like, everything— not just dungeons.
Try swapping Ritual of Protection for Close to Death and see how it affects your survivability.
Edit: Holy crap I never knew Spiteful Tailsman was adept, lol.
(edited by ArchonWing.9480)
I have 2.
A 80 guardian and Necro. I don’t get how people can get so many 80s so fast. I have a friend that’s almost getting 100% completion on all his characters!
just wondering, what would be the point of getting karma for wvw? karma is largely useless anyway (for wvw-ers)
Orrian Box loop, mostly. Or 4 temple exos into the mystic forge.
WvW usually has the worst loot even if you get many kills, but karma is extremely abundant because anything you do almost is an event. I’d imagine most pure wvwers to have more karma than anything else.
You can of course “farm” other players but depending on how your server is doing, this can be unreliable.
It’s also cheaper to get. =p
(edited by ArchonWing.9480)
It is not nonsense, to award no achievement points but give an alternate rewarded instead. The infinite sanctum sprint achievement that gives a rare every time you complete it but it rewards 0 achievement points.
If achievement points meant nothing to begin with why did Anet have an entire Ranking board created around them? They did mean something before not after daily and monthlies. I am ok with those achievements that lack skill because they have a Cap, unlike daily / monthly. Those achievements also generate very small AP. Also they do not take up 90% of the achievements, this is a very biased statistic.
Daily and monthlies do limit freedom and do devolve the game into kill 1000 of x. They do that in spades. And you are not forced to kill 1000 x there are many achievements like Jumping Puzzles, World v World and sPvP that are truly dynamic and entertaining. But I guess the population of Gw2 would rather, to everyday do this…

So 11 of the mindless above x 365 = 4015 AP For nothing
But i guess dailies give you a trivial amount of points as you put it?What part of the above isn’t mindless farming in its own right? Aside from dungeons, personal story and maybe few others?
And we haven’t even touched Monthly PvE/sPvP or Daily sPvP.
As for retooling the system well.. they need not do that. They just need to ad more Unique Achievements and or buff the points from existing ones.
It absolutely is nonsense. If you don’t award AP for doing dailies and monthlies, then rename them “Achievement achieved within a day or a month”
Arenanet adding a leaderboard is just add some fluff to add some marginal recognition to AP earners. So fine it doesn’t mean nothing. It means very little, though it is practically nothing to people who don’t consider pve to be competitive. And lol, pve is not competitive. So only PvP achievements should have meant anything. Just because people have decided it’s a rat race, doesn’t mean we should be forced to take that perspective.
It might have also been just a tool for personal gratification and something you can share with your friends, but I guess like anything that involves an ordered list, it just devolves into an ekitten contest.
I don’t like Spvp and jumping puzzles. And I do WvW plenty but now the requirements are in the thousands. Sorry, that’s not viable. I can take down a thousand bodies and get rewarded 6 points… lol.
Sure dailies are also, “do of x”, except they don’t have unreasonable numbers to it. And of course they come naturally from playing content unless you somehow avoid killing people in wvw, lol. Aka, no detours. That is what separates “mindless farming” from an actual reward. When the result is generated through intended gameplay. In other words, I never have to play the game to “farm”
So ultimately your complaint is that the points earned from AP is that they give too much for being too easy. Fine, rebalance the harder achievements and add more that are hard.
My perspective of the game is to play in desired content and hopefully the bean counter will increase as a side effect. This thread though, seems to be prioritizing the bean counter above all else, and I guess that’s something that’s hard to tell the difference.
(edited by ArchonWing.9480)
It’s more like “If I can’t do it via this method”, nobody else can.
So true. It’s quite interesting that such threads started to pop when some people ran out of APs -> reward chests.
I feel your pain, really do, but do not ask for nerfs just because someone played more than you or decided to go for achis most of playerbase didn’t care for. If I knew that ANet will reward us for APs we gained so far I would farm bit more in different places but since I didn’t (only 5760 APs so far) it will motivate me to do things I otherwise wouldn’t do in game and I bet it will be fun.
And that’s the thing.
I have like, 3400~ AP. The only viable source of me to get some more AP is to do dailies/monthlies/ kill people in wvw. I like to spend a lot of time in wvw, and those achievements will be fine for now, but they will run dry. I do not log on, look at the menu, and wonder “dude, which of these achievements do I have to fill. What, 5000 kills with a warhorn?” I understand I’ll never be competitive on the leaderboard; but I don’t feel like putting that type of effort, thus I simply just put up and shut up.
If anything, people that play less like myself only have these things to reliably gain AP while maintaining their own gameplay. Our time is limited already and dailies give the largest amount of choice. Capping them is just going to create tedium, and Anet is most likely aware. I like this because I can just play for just about an hour. I don’t want to spend hours doing some other crap unless it is engaging and does not have a 3-4 digit requirement counter. Aka, I don’t want do stuff for the reward, I want to be rewarded for doing stuff. because the former type of gameplay is completely hollow.
So no, I don’t want things to change, just because some people arbitrarily decided this is a rat race and want to ruin it for everyone else. I want to pick my own game, not be forced into someone’s idealization of a hamster wheel. Nor should people force their definition of “skill” in other people’s faces.

As an SBI’er who has seen this crap happen before, I am indeed very sad to see fairweathers deserting in droves. It can be quite painful, and very unfortunate, since your server had many fine players on it last time we encountered you.
IMO, there should be heavy discounts on transferring to low pop OR low rank wvw servers. The lowest few could be free, and then the rest would receive discounts depending on size and rank as well.

The pittance of loot is barely keeping pugs there and many people complain it’s hardly enough to maintain repairs and upgrades.
Until those wvw chests stop sucking, this isn’t really viable.
We could also increase the aoe cap, but that’s insane right?
Yea really. This would help the personalization aspect much more.
In your case, gilded. You won’t be fighting large amounts of trash mobs for mf to really matter not to mention mf does not help chests anyways, but the big guys will drop coin for you. Also, even for general use, gilded is more consistent because regardless of what happens anywhere enemies will drop coin frequently. It’s much easier to notice a boost from more coin than it is from praying to the RNG gods for better drops.
In general,
Open World = MF
WvW = Karma
Dungeon = Gold

How can dailies possibly feel like a grind? They just happen! All by themselves! As long as your play experience involves leaving Lion’s Arch occasionally, you’ll get your required dailies.
No you won’t, there’s always at least 1 or 2 that you’ll have to go out of your way to get.
That really depends on how you play. Some days I do them by accident, some days I don’t even bother. Adding 3-5 more dailies types per day should help the problem a little.
It’s more like “If I can’t do it via this method”, nobody else can.
Nope. It is nonsensical to call something a “daily” or “monthly” achievement yet not award achievement points for them on a daily or monthly basis.
Achievement points never meant anything to begin with, but since they attached progression to it, it must be open to everyone. If we reduced achievements to solely those that required skills, then 90% of pve should not count for achievements.
Dailies are generic and random enough to allow freedom of play instead of taking exclusive detours. Eventually when one “runs out” of interesting achievement points they would have to do things like “Kill 1000 of x” and other nonsensical detours. The game should never devolve into such nonsense. In essence, it allows everyone an equal chance to approach of it their own accord. In other words it allows the most people the largest amount of freedom of play. If choices are limited, then it becomes unfun, and a “grind”.
Instead, they should make new challenging achievements and boost the value of them as well as the more difficult achievements. You should have a choice of doing trivial dailies for 4 points, or a difficult yet swift activity for 25 points. Doing the more difficult activity should enable a better ratio for time spent. In reality, I think the difficult achievements are the ones that should be able to be repeated (with a weekly limit or something)
I’m all for capping leaderboard points regarding dailies and monthlies, but outside of that, it’s nobody’s business but mine especially since they attached this kind of progression. Otherwise, a full retool of the system is needed.

Darkhaven seems to be a tough bunch. Well fought.
At minimum, I would say yellow gear but this has to do with it being trivially accessible . Green gear seemed too slow, but maybe it’s because I am not that good. So I would say 20% difference or greater tends to negatively effect things.
In general, I would claim that weaker gear makes longer fights harder. If you kill an enemy in 10 hits instead of 8, you might not notice it. But 200 hits instead of 160 will start to hurt.
I don’t feel like the disparity is too great between tiers, though said disparity exists.
Between runes though, it’s a world of difference. I find them incredibly annoying, and this is my biggest concern with ascended armor if it obsoletes existing runes, or merely requires replacements.

Play WvW. It’s essentially PvE but with enemies that have a brain (occasionally) that will disrupt your goals.
They were not meant to be farmed, even if people insist on doing it. The treasure chest merely recuperates the trouble you spent getting there, and a bit more to cover your travel costs.
Grinding world bosses is extremely inefficient unless you’re jumping at the map at the right times with robot like efficiency. What? 3g an hour if you are lucky and 100% efficient?
Just join a dragon fight with the intent of fighting the dragon and the occasional drop. If you go in there to “grind”, it will only lead to disappointment.
Personally, I think it’s best when you’re running around Lion’s arch and an announcement comes in. World bosses are best played as a “tourist”, not as a janitor. I avoid any activity in which the reward comes first. Dailies too cumbersome? I just don’t bother at all, etc
