Thank you for this. I totally missed the tour guide and will now do it. Again, thank you.
This seems to be global in some areas as well. I’m hearing people say they just suddenly die for no reason. Walking around Lion’s Arch and BAM! Dead. No reason.
Speculation is it’s lag spikes and sudden falling damage. Also, it does some weird stuff to those new wings too.
Like alien abduction and then dropping you from the sky.
and people say rangers suck…
Yeah, I still hear that a lot too . . . usually while I stand over their corpses.
Edit: I’m kind of surprised anyone still uses troll. I’ve found Heal As One to be amazing now.
Hah! I think the Queen has Logan’s number. You might be waiting a while.
Not crazy about this change, but it’s like the old bosses . . . but about five minutes longer to take down in some cases. Heard some nightmare stories about Teq though.
On that note, everyone is aware of the Destiny’s Edge 2.0, right? We have two lesbians, a char falling for a norn, a handicapped asura, and you.
Good news everybody! ANet is an open-minded company. Guess you didn’t see the writing on the wall, did you?
Welcome to the 21st century.
Oh no. Two men in a game are getting married. It’s the end.
. . .
Where is my /rolls eyes emote?
But . . . but . . . achievements!
I must agree on the condition damage changes. While I love it, when not used against me, it’s pretty obvious something’s off when it melts some World Bosses in less than thirty seconds. I hate to use the word ‘nerf’, but anyone with eyes can see there’s an issue.
Yes, yes, and yes!
I can see why some would like the checkpoints. Some areas of the puzzle are brutal. But I get why some would not like them either. Still, I’m good with either way. In most cases, I’ll just pay a mesmer to be honest.
I suck at jumping puzzles.
I never knew my 60 something year old anatomy professor doctor PhD habil etc. teacher was uneducated. He actually called it a sickness.
So did a lot of doctors back in the day. They said homosexuality was a mental illness. And they were wrong. Being educated with a PhD does not give you a pass on ignorance.
Every time I think maybe the real world isn’t so bad, I come back to topics like this and it’s why I go bury my head in the game again. What a nice world where I don’t have to field BS all the time about my orientation being ‘a challenge’ and told maybe someone should sexually violate me to change it (too late, someone tried that) or where a verb to describe a state the mental illness I’ve struggled with for 20 years causes isn’t constantly misused as some sort of sick joke against “SJWs” or where my disabilities don’t make me ‘worthless’ as both a human being and a woman. And hey, there are characters who represent some of that. They’re normal. Not special snowflakes. Not worthy of gobs of attention because of it. Normal.
Look, this NPC is a minor drip in a bucket that made transfolk happy when they noticed. That’s it. That’s all she is. Some NPC who is trans and gets treated as perfectly normal instead of a freak of nature. I’m not trans, this doesn’t promote any personal agenda, it was just a nice thing. Hey, in Tyria, no one cares if you’re trans, sweet right? Being yourself can be hard but it’s okay, you’re accepted, you’re wanted, you’re valuable. That is a darn good message to give, even through a NPC who doesn’t really matter in the grand scheme.
This. And well said. People need to chill. In another fifty to one-hundred years, society will look back at this topic and say: they really got upset about that?
On that note, this is the biggest topic from the patch? This has the most flames? Really? (laugh) I’d say ANet did a kitten good job if this is what people are kittening about!
(edited by Ardenwolfe.8590)
I’m surprised I like the new system better . . . but I do.
I love it. Thank you ANet for being so progressive and timely.
I must admit, I’m shocked this isn’t getting more praise. I too love, love, love the new system. Because of it, I’m almost guaranteed to buy the expansion now.
I think ANet did a great job there. Well done.
Just completed this. The hardest part was easily trying to target that karka in the flower pot and waiting for the ‘Inn’ door to open.
Bless you Dulfy for that guide!
Really? I found it to be better than the ruin it was for months and months. Lacks the character of the old Lion’s Arch, I admit, but I like it all the same.
I agree. I like it. A bit ‘Southsun’ for me, but given who the builder are . . . it makes sense. They did a good job overall. But I sure miss that old fountain.
Yikes. I forgot about tomorrow’s patch. Well . . . guess ANet better keep that fire extinguisher handy for tomorrow. . . .
Agreed.
I don’t need an extra character slot. I need to see that there’s enough playable content to warrant $50. I’ve seen a lot of interesting update stuff, like a new profession, elite specializations, gliding, masteries, but none of that is going to significantly extend the life of the game $50 worth unless there is significantly more stuff to do and area to explore.
Same. But, given their postive reaction, I expect ANet to give more and more information over the next months. But, for now, I’m not pre-ordering until then.
Given that I only play one class/one character, an extra character slot means nothing to me. But I don’t begrudge those who need one because they suffer from Many-Alts-Syndrome.
I’m still on the fence, given I want to know a little more, but I think ANet made this misstep right. The lack of flames on forums, after this week, is s nice change.
Given the bad press, it’s the right decision. Hopefully, more than few players will be happy and the boards will calm now.
Not to be rude, but I think the OP is digging a bit. Regardless, it’s a step in the right direction and should appease more the a few on the fence about this fiasco.
Still waiting to see what content is being offered, but this should make those who wanted that extra character slot more than happy.
Again, it’s the right decision.
Oh yeah. Now I remember why I want an ignore feature again. . . .
Oh yeah. I forgot about them. Ugh. Hope it’s a red herring.
I guess in the event of a major problem they would not be able to fix it or whould have to find/hire someone that could. This is the post from Anet regarding the issue:
Yikes. Well . . . point. Alas. . . .
Guess I better research what Heal was talking about.
Don’t think it’s possible. They said they don’t have a relationship with the original designer of this forum and that they don’t have people with the knowledge on how to modify it to make more than basic changes.
Seriously? Well . . . if something goes horribly wrong . . . how do they know how to fix it?
Again, you can’t buy this level of bad press. Anyone who can’t see ANet dropped the ball, in a big way, at this point is just kidding themselves.
I really feel that Anet is going more the the new people that the ones that funded them to make the new expansion.
Whether you agree or disagree with me. The bad press is spreading. their usual silent tactic is not working this time. (So far).
Agree. And what’s worse? Let’s say I’m a new player or one interested in the game. Right now, if I did some basic research on recent news about this game, what do you think I’ll find?
Exactly. It doesn’t make me feel confidence about the company nor their expansion if their most loyal fans are screaming, “Foul!”
Just something to consider.
When people have been given three years of nothing but FREE updates and content and turn around and claim that they are OWED for their ‘loyalty’ when a product update is launched and costs money…I think the word (in the negative connotation) ‘entitlement’ is entirely deserved.
You are aware a lot of those people paid more in gem items, per month, than a subscription fee, aren’t you? Heck in some cases, some of our peers paid more, per month in gem store items, than the cost of buying the game.
How are they ‘entitled’ given your scenario?

I’m planning to buy the 50$ version but I haven’t bought yet. One reason is because ANet hasn’t presented a good reason to prebuy the 50$ version. If I were to give them my 50$ and tie the expansion to my account, what do I get out of it? All I get is a bunch of promises without a date on them. No date for the first beta. No date for the game. I don’t even get a character slot to make a char to play around with or park at a chest.
If all I getting for preordering is some undated promises, then I am better off holding on to my money until I actually get something. If I don’t care about the betas then I might as well wait till the expansion arrives to see if there is a better offer for my $50.
It’s not a good idea for the basic version to offer nothing but open ended promises if they want people to hand over their money months ahead of delivering. They should be wanting to hook people into buying to get them to commit and get their money to pay ANet’s bills. Such a bare bones version lack the necessary hook to pull in the money and is poorly thought out.
QFT.
No it isn’t, denial of plainly obvious fact is not an opinion, it is willful ignorance. They told people that this expansion required previous purchase, and it does not, and therefore, based on the expectation they set, the only fair option is that there be a purchase option where the base game is not included.
So obviously true it’s painful. People are in denial about this simple fact too? Yeesh. Oh and +1.
Yes, this would be helpful.
You watch. Evon will demand Kiel’s impeachment. And he’ll have Robo-tron provide false evidence since Evon’s blackmailing the poor robot.
. . .
Evon is evil!
As far as we know, Lion’s Arch will get another makeover since Scarlet’s Invasion. Certain areas will be remained due to the input of players. In-game events? I wouldn’t doubt there’s some mini-event of some kind. Colin has hinted about something that will ‘eat’ our Dragonite Ore. or whatever it’s called, around that time.
Again, we’re not 100% sure.
I’m all for free speech, but once a user has proven he or she spouts the same nonsense, over and over again, it would be nice to have some kind of blocking system. Something like we have in-game. Yes, I know I can just skip the poster’s response, and yes, delete the private messages they send, but I would appreciate some kind of ‘ignore user’ addition to these forums.
Again, I’m all for civil debate, but some users have proven they just want to voice their agenda ad nauseum, thump their chests, or just prod the community with flames.
Please add some kind of blocking or ignore system to these forums. It might help keep things a little more civil, and a little less arrogant, around these parts.
Just a suggestion and thank you.

I love me some Guild Wars 2. But I wouldn’t recommend the game to new players right now. Everything is very stagnant while they work on the expansion. And given that recent developement, I strongly recommend a wait and see policy.
But that’s just my humble opinion.

And, keep in mind, people asked for this mess in the first place.
Again, given that all anyone is talking about is the fiasco, and not the actual expansion, they definitely didn’t expect it.

The expansion is still “expanding” the core game, nothing has changed there.
I’ll be honest. I stopped reading your post after this gem.

Honestly? I doubt it. Maybe a little backlash. But not the tsunami they got.

Isn’t that funny? By definition, expansion means to expand on the original. Yet, adding the core game to the ‘expansion’ has muddied the water like nobody’s business.

Never attribute to malice what can adequately be explained as stupidity (or a mjstake, or an oversight, etc).

To be fair, Maddoctor, most of us didn’t. But, to be doubly fair, the question of refunds didn’t really come up much until this latest fiasco.
Why is it that in dungeons people only want level 80s in them? I have seen this multiple times and I am wanting to know what every else has to say about it.
gear and traits.
Even if you play well. You will probably do less damage than that level 80 in rare who is dead half the time.
This . . . sadly.
Guild Wars 2 sharks are incredible. Some even have medical training.
Hilarious!

Agreed. I came to the same conclusion as Kill. It’s unfortunate, but facts are a funny thing.
