The point of this post is trying to understand this whole notion of ANET needing to instill trust with players or the attitude that people can simply complain endlessly over trivial matters, or that some how the game developers owe the players anything at all besides a few hours of fun.
The answer is loyal customers and repeat business. An unhappy customer tends to be a disloyal customer who isn’t going to pay for anything further. While I’m not excusing some of the ‘trivial’ matters we’ve seen on the boards, you must keep in mind it speaks volumes about the overall climate within the community.
The ‘mood’ of the players.
And, if it isn’t obvious yet . . . they’re not happy campers.
Honestly? This is ANet’s fault. They’ve set the bar especially high with their weekly to monthly updates. These updates always kept players busy chasing after a new carrot. And then it was gone because it wasn’t enough for certain players who have since went into hiding or started playing something else.
Unfortunately, ANet listened to them . . . and now we’re getting nothing. We’ve got nothing to do. And we’re being told nothing of substance.
That sudden withdraw tends to make those that stayed cranky. And thus . . . the posts and threads you’re seeing.
Sad state, but the expansion crowd asked for this drought. And now it’s here until the expansion is done. Let’s not even discuss the multitude of game-breaking bugs the recent patch introduced. . . .
(edited by Ardenwolfe.8590)
Yep. It’s part of the bug list you can see here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Ranger-Bugs-Updated/first
Hopefully, it’ll be fix soon.
Personally, I liked the old one better too.
Complaining via raging is not necessarily a sign of general dissatisfaction. Neither is it necessarily a sign of dissatisfaction with anything other than the object of one’s ire. Depending on the context and the issues, it can be, for example, anything from righteous anger (justified or not), passion about a subject, or a lack of maturity.
I would say this is true if not for the general mood on the forums and in the game itself. I cannot speak for the community, but I will speak from my own experience: I log in for my daily reward, do the minimum or so dailies to get the ten achievement points, and then log right back out to do or play something else.
And if I had to guess? I’m not the only one . . . if people are even logging in anymore. So why is the community so easily discouraged?
History.
Again, keep in mind, this is what the expansion crowd wanted. Given that, the ‘every two weeks’ statement is moot. That was then, and this is now.
Welcome to the new Guild Wars 2.

Buy this SAB coin for $10 and then we remove SAB….(Sab infinite coin)
Play this PvP map its different it has water invest in some gear for it then we remove all water from PvP and pvp lobby… (Water areas in PvP)
Spend time, currencies(Gold, spores, and skill points), and energy unlocking this heal skill and then we will remove it from the game…. (Anti-Toxin Spray Heal)
We feel after three years we need to completely axe some playstyles and force people to change thus tossing the balance of pvp into chaos…(Removal of clone death mechanic in mesmers)
Anet is the worst dev I’ve dealt with thus far not even Blizzard does this type of thing so it makes sense that people are disgruntled as is and certain things are indeed enough to push them over the egde. Tuesday was supposed to be the bi-weekly patch day adn we got nothing not even a fix for WvW glitches. My WvW is dead since my server is apparently the smallest in the game(Kiening). But according to Anet they are all highly populated so they can overcharge on transfer fees. There are many things wrong with this game and unlike other MMO’s it’s not the game itself it’s the developers so people are more upset with Anet/NCsoft than they are about WvW. WvW is just the last push to get them moving along.
Well, to be fair, this too. . . .
It’s not the community in general, it’s just already disgruntle players with grudges against the company/devs. They are exceptionally bored at the moment so any little thing sets them off on a rant. Just remember those who post on the forums are a tiny portion of the player base and it’s human nature that it’s easier to complain than praise.
This.
Agreed. While I appreciate the work on Lion’s Arch, Old Lion’s Arch was a wonder.
Honestly, with some of the threads I’ve seen lately, I’m not shocked at what people complain about anymore. There was a thread defending the cultural rights of the skritt. How it offended the poster that he had to knock over rocks.
In the meantime, Donald Trump is leading in the Republican polls, so I guess nothing should surprise these day.
But, to bring this back to topic, most of the gem store items were usually linked to events in Living Story. So. . . .
I’m finding it telling that my ‘pointless’ opinion, and sparse sentences, generates paragraph after paragraph of argument from you, Leo. Perhaps it’s you who is emotional. Regardless, I’ve said my piece, offered alternatives, and will leave it at that.
The answer is still no.
(edited by Ardenwolfe.8590)
Thank God for this thread.
I remember back when people complained like mad about them releasing stuff in the gem store every other week.
People actually did that? -_- Lame…
They sure did.
It would be on a mass scale for anybody to share. Also, mail limits the amount of characters used and the amount of mail sent out is also tapered. This probably wouldn’t be. Finally, you can block and report said whispers. Blocking and reporting ‘books’ is something else.
Again, if you want a ‘guild notebook’, just create a page or forum for it on your guild website. No need to get bent out of shape when you can do such a thing yourself and for your guild members should they desire to read about your misadventures.
As I said before, seen it done on many RPG sites outside the game. Don’t know why this one requires it to be in-game. And, not to be harsh, I think more than a few of you are overestimating the interest in yourselves/characters.
We can barely get players to read flavored quest text. So I’m doubtful players will pay gold to read about someone else’s . . . musings.
But maybe that’s just me.
What we need? A block option on these forums.
No, just really open for abuse from abusive players.
Imagine receiving a book in the mail with negative and abusive comments from random strangers? Random strangers as they swapped to an alt trash account before commenting as they knew that account would probably be banned.
Don’t believe someone would throw away an account? Look up GW Dhuum ban on YouTube. Those accounts were thrown away just to enable minion rezzing by others.
If someone could write comments in a book then send to another abuse and trolling would catapult to a new level and I really don’t want to see that here.
Bullseye.
Concept: Purchase (or find) a blank book for 1g.
This controls the amount of books in the world as well as limit its effect on TP spam and filtering.
Did you?
(edited by Ardenwolfe.8590)
I can’t figure out if you two are this naive, oblivious, or just plain sheltered. The answer is no. Period. If you want to do that mess, feel free to do it offline.
And no, I’m not the first person to mention such a scenario. Please reread the second response in this thread and its responses.
The mere idea anyone thinks that won’t happen is the part that’s laughable. But far be it from me to try to coax anyone down from their Ivory Tower. The view must be nice.
(edited by Ardenwolfe.8590)
Nope, dead silence. Par for the course.
Let me understand this. If I disagree with your reasoning, even with examples of why this can detonate in ANet’s face, I’m not thinking ‘logically’, I’m thinking emotionally? Do you have no idea how insulting that was?
I’ll put it in simple words: a bad idea is a bad idea.
And this is a bad idea. The benefits do not outweigh the negatives. Sorry you don’t agree with that opinion, but please keep your response civil. If you can’t do that without saying I’m ‘Having a break down over text’, please don’t respond any further.
There was no need for the personal attacks much less an incorrect assumption.
(edited by Ardenwolfe.8590)
While I can see your perspective and this is definitely a concern of the ideas, it’s hardly a negative of the idea itself. “It might be more moderation work” isn’t a negative unless it is a specific additional feature added that could be exploited to disrupt the gameplay of players. This wouldn’t do that.
I don’t think you’ve fully explored the possible advantages and downfalls of the suggestion or your alternatives.
Do you remember that thread discussing the transgender NPC? The reactions? Now imagine a player selling stories on the Trading Post about Queen Jenna being a trans-gendered individual having sex with Logan in the form of an erotic diary.
And boom.
“How dare ANet endorse this!” lights up the boards. Gaming outlets pick it up. And then the media.
Do you think ANet wants that nightmare on their hands?
And that’s just one example of the kitten-storm this suggestion would create. Again, no, not happening. Players can do this on a separate board or website.
Please let’s not open this Pandora’s box.
I’m not even going to entertain a response about the fan-fiction aspect/copyright of this. You want that discussion, go to George R. R. Martin’s page. He’ll give you an earful about it.
(edited by Ardenwolfe.8590)
Oh the delicious irony. . . .
Do you know, back in the day, we had people complaining there were too many updates and events? Of course, those same people screamed for an expansion kitten near every day.
Strange. I don’t see them around anymore.
(edited by Ardenwolfe.8590)
Again, keep in mind, the last Living Story ended with a PvE cliffhanger. The expansion picks up exactly where that cliffhanger ended. So, if you’re expecting a sudden WvW windfall, my apologies . . . but you’re not paying attention.
(laugh) Apparently, if you think raids help create a healthy PvE community, you’ve never been in a World of Warcraft guild where the need for new gear and bigger egos rule the roost. -100 DKP for you!
-shudder-
Now it’s a definite pass for me. Thanks Argent Dawn.
Agreed. It’s something minor, but it would be a nice update.
On a side note, this is a huge reason I solo pretty much everything. Who needs this mess?
Well one of two things will happen now: people will ignore the ‘hard’ content or they’ll complain about it.
Maybe both.
Tbh I’m really more here to make a point. Anet has stated that they dont think wvw players are a thing, and I am pretty sure they are going to destroy our game mode with the expansion. They dont read the wvw forums, I’m sure they check this forum because they’re trying SO hard to advertise and sell HoT. So I want to show them that a lot of their long-term players are going to end up leaving with this expansion if they dont give us a reason to stay.
Based on what though? Where are your metrics? My guild? I know other guilds.
I promise you Anet knows what percentage of people are where, and when. You may think you have this huge group of WvWers, but compared to the rest of the playerbase it might be 10%. It might be 15%.
You don’t know what percentage of those people are going to leave. You don’t even know what percentage of people might LIKE the changes. And you can’t know how many new people Anet gets will enter WvW.
In fact, what you’re saying is I know more than Anet about who does what in the game and frankly, I don’t think that’s the case.
You know, Vayne is not my favorite person on these boards, but I’ll be kitten if he doesn’t have valid points here.
Sorry you don’t like the responses, Genavelle, but those are the answers you got.
(edited by Ardenwolfe.8590)
You don’t pay for free things now do you? If it’s free later but requires payment to unlock, it was never free
Um . . . I bought the game when it came out. The base game. So, yes, I never paid for any of the Living Story episode like newer players had to. I.E. Free.
And yes, in order to get the future content and episodes, you kind of have to buy the expansion.
Please don’t split hairs.
(edited by Ardenwolfe.8590)
But I don’t think that would be an issue. In my experience the vast majority of fanfic writers don’t expect or even want their stories published. Even the ones who are aspiring writers generally use fanfic as a way to practice whilst working on their own original work separately.
(laugh) Tell that to E.L. James.
An interesting idea. I wouldn’t mind seeing how it works. Has to be better than the current version. +1
Not going to happen. Your suggestion alone would add a huge workload to moderators already overwhelmed with the reporting system. Giving those people access to be even more workarounds isn’t a good idea, even if a select few do wish to use it for its intended purpose.
Besides, if people want to read or write a book about fantasy, an MMO isn’t the best route to do it. RPers can do this offsite on blogs and the like for donations in game. I’ve seen this done before in the past where certain players kept a ‘journal’ of their interactions on a board of sorts.
That, honestly, is the better route. Because if that person ever intends to ‘publish’ said work, they can forget it. Guess who that work would belong to in this game.
You got it.
And I’m pretty sure ANet would like to avoid that additional, and legal, nightmare.
(edited by Ardenwolfe.8590)
Despite everything, I know the majority of us will buy the expansion because of the updates to the game and future Living Story content.
Look at it this way: You’re unlocking future, and free, content.
Don’t get it twisted. The expansion’s content, new class, or fluff are not its biggest selling points. Access to future Living Story, Seasonal, and Special Events episodes, achievements, and rewards are.
It’ll never happen. Players barely, if at all, read quest text. The mindless, “Where is it?” in map chat, despite the in-game mail, little green arrows, huge orange arrows, stars, mini videos, and text on the side of the quest that says where said objective is.
Let’s not even get into how trolls, pervs, and gold sellers could abuse this.
I can’t even. . . .
I’d be shocked if it ever happens.
If we’re talking predictions? Christmas or later. Much later. The beta showed a lot of missteps, and the recent patch jacked more than a few things. I don’t know about the other classes, but the ranger needs a lot of bug fixes.
This seriously needs to be reverted. The patch bugged and gutted Healing Spring.
Oh boy.
That would be valid except he’s talking about the expansion and not shelling out money for it. Given that ANet wants money, suggesting he do something else, like play outside, doesn’t help ANet earn that money.
Which was kind of the OP’s point.
Zero. I’m not into gambling and RNG has not been kind to me. Some people call it the Mystic Toilet for a reason. That flushing sound is what happens to your gold.
Edit: Forgot about Mystic Forge Dailies. In that case, 4 silver for the cheapest armor. Usually boots.

Makes sense now.
(laugh) I’m just remember how many people said the community wouldn’t get bored waiting for the expansion. They’d be okay with nothing to do in-between like every other MMO.
I love ANet sometimes. They really spoiled the community with their updates and festivals. Players had no idea how good they had it . . . until now.

Curiouser and curiouser.
Wait. Know what you’re getting. Read or listen to reviews. Avoid the impulse buy and watch what happens.
Again, be smart and know what you’re buying. Otherwise, what Random said. His is the common sense answer.
(edited by Ardenwolfe.8590)
The sad thing is I’m in the same boat too. Log in, get daily reward, do dailies for achievement points reward, log off and play or do something else.
Pretty sure we’re not the only ones either.

ArenaNet-Try Harder(to get me to)Pre-Order
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Ardenwolfe.8590
It’s a little ridiculous how little detailed information we’ve gotten at this point. I’m not pre-ordering until I know how many maps there are at the very least.
Same.
Welcome to the reason a lot of us said, “No,” to an expansion, and, “Yes,” to more free Living Story updates, Seasonal Events, Special Events, etc. every month or so while chasing achievements.
Never once was I bored. And now? Well, now we get into arguments about what content we are or aren’t getting at what cost . . . while I play Marvel Heroes. I’m sure Gazillion appreciates that.
Fun times.
HoT Price Feedback + Base game included [merged]
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Why? Because people are willing pay for it at that price. Yes, without even knowing what they’re getting. In case you don’t know, there’s a famous saying attributed to P.T. Barnum . . . which he actually didn’t say.
You might want to look into it.
Funny. I didn’t even think about Guild Wars 2’s anniversary. Still, that’s what map chat went on and on about the other night. The ‘anniversary’ will be the release date for the expansion. Hell. You might be right.
