Honestly, after all this time, ANet better make this mini purchasable next Halloween.
The Ancient Karka event when Southsun happened. As buggy and laggy as it was, this dynamic (and one-time – unless you knew a workaround) event sticks out in my Guild Wars 2 experiences.
It’s my understanding you will need to buy the expansion for key updates that involve quests and certain situations. For example, I doubt you’ll be able to kill Mordy without Heart of Thorns.
I’d venture to guess you also won’t be able to get into the new zones or areas too.
But, as Vayne said, you’ll still be able to play the base game.
Hasn’t been released yet. Been keeping an eye out on it myself. Probably be in the gem store after the last batch of minis expires. A day or two, I think.
Something is better than nothing.
What do you mean . . . if? The content on the new maps follows the Silverwastes to a tee. One must control certain ‘forts’ in order to progress the map according to information already release.
That’s the basic route for Silverwastes already. And they told us Silverwastes and Drytop were the ‘testing’ for these dynamic events in interviews.
There no if to your question at all.

Plot twist! Man, I love little, hidden secrets like this.
I’d rather have my Lion’s Arch fountain back, thank you.
In a manner of speaking . . . yes. Eventually, all players will be able to get into the beta. Whether it’s open or closed by pre-purchase or not. That said, it always seemed silly to me to farm an item to beta test a game.
You want me to beta test your game? Invite me, and I will. I’m not farming to have the chance to beta test anything. That seemed incredibly arrogant to me. Since when is beta testing anything, to find bugs and flaws in any expansion, a reward?
But, as always, that’s just my humble opinion.
It would be interesting to be able to donate certain items and the like toward construction. Maybe gain an achievement or title in the process. I’d do it.
On a side note, if you go to certain vistas, you’ll get the panorama of the construction. Also, only the drill remains in the water. Scarlet’s platform is gone . . . thank God.
Regardless, I’m thrilled Lion’s Arch is getting some attention . . . finally.
I’ve tried many, many, many MMOs over the last few years. I pretty much quit them all after a month or two max, depending on the game, and in some cases a few days or weeks.
Guild Wars 2 has held my attention for almost three years now.
I’m not saying it’s the best thing since sliced bread, but take the negative commentary with a grain of salt. Yet I will say it’s definitely worth a try.
Six million dollars a month? That’s pretty kitten impressive if the majority of those sales are gemstore alone.
Unlikely it will ever return, sans some time warp adventure or object, given the changes and effects it had to the overall world.

Wow, that is realy a Minor nitpick… But what you paid for was GW2 and you got it, you could play it without a single update and it was well worth your money with the content you got from that money. All the updates was for free, it was a thank you too everyone for that there are people spending money on the gems-store.
Bullseye.
I liked it. Very different from my playstyle, but impressive nonetheless.
The Song of Sour Grapes will always be sweet to my ears . . . and then I block their singers.
Thought the same thing after that loving moment between her and Braham. “Now she’s doomed.”
The only people who think we’re waiting 3 years for an expansion are people who aren’t actually paying attention to what’s been going on. Or people who decided there must be expansions and started counting from day 1 when no paid expansion was actually in the works.
This.
I’d like a rifle as a ranger. . . .
I’ll guess around Christmas, but that’s only a guess.
Some outfits come and go or are based on the seasons. For example, the Mad King’s outfit is only available around Halloween.
Agreed. If they make all the dungeons soloable, I would do them all. No insult intended, but many players don’t get how to do dungeons much less how to play their class.
From my own experience, I tend to be the last person alive and soloing a grouped event anyway in fractals or Living Story dungeons.
So I’m already soloing the content, but it’s too time-consuming overall to solo for the little rewards.
Again, if they adjust the content to make it soloable, I’d be all over it.
I like the look and the name. The packaging appears promising for necromancer players. But we’ll see if the real thing pans out.
Wasn’t this exactly what those of us that preferred the Living Story system warned about when people demanded an expansion?
And the expansion people claimed that it would in no way or form change the content flow.
It is simply not feasible for a company of ArenaNets size and resources to focus on both and expansion and other content at the same time.
It is simply one or the other. And yes, I know people will bring up the whole: “But they can re-release stuff that is already created!”. But that is assuming that it works 100% with all the new changes that have been made, something that takes time and resources to check, and if it does not work it could take weeks if not more to find and fix the issues so that it once again becomes playable.
Weeks that needs to be taken from the expansion. Not that it really matters, because it would still only lead to people complaining about how lazy they are to only release old stuff instead of new (just look at Halloween, Wintersday and Chinese New Year).
QFT.
There’s been no substantial updates since January. There’s your answer. The expansion has overwritten everything else. This will continue until the expansion is released at some undisclosed time.
We have no idea when. Next month or next year is anyone’s guess.
And yes, this is what people wanted. The loudest people anyway. Nothing for months on end as opposed to something every few weeks or months instead. Yes, they rather pay for some unknown as opposed to a free and sure thing.
Don’t ask. I still can’t wrap my mind around it either.
You are completely oversimplifying, as is Ardenwolf.
Players didn’t like the LS because of the horrendously long breaks after only a few episodes while the episodes themselves were incredibly lackluster in terms of actual content. Either they make short episodes like they did while sticking to a non stop 2 week schedule for at least half a year or make the individual episodes much longer and content rich; what we got was a pretty bad joke.
As for now, you’re acting as if content updates while an add-on is being developed are completely unreasonable. Why do you think that, if I may ask?
I know another AAA MMO that has released multiple rather big content patches while developing an expansion that launches next month.
One question: How is everyone liking no updates with no timetable or release date for the expansion?
I’ll take some updates as opposed to no updates any day. Especially free updates to boot. Every two week or less than a month? That’s the complaint? How about no real content since January?
That’s kind of the point of this thread for those who apparently missed it. Is that overly simple? Maybe. But it also has the merit of being 100% true.

I like Trahearne, but I agree . . . Caithe can go.
If Cloverfield is any indication . . . no.
The ironic part is that those screaming for the expansion have gone silent for the most part. I guess they’ll be around for the month or two, if that, to complete the ‘expansion’.
That said, hopefully some form of Dragon Bash will be back in June.
So . . . how are we loving the expansion so far?
Open world. So far, the dungeons have been nothing but a disaster. Sadly, the zerg tends to be more forgiving with mistakes and general ignorance of certain encounters than a five-man group.
When it’s more effective for me to solo a dungeon than to group through it, there’s an issue.
I’m not sure there’s much basis to call something a ‘bigger success’ because of its boss encounters. . . .
But, regardless, something’s got to give sooner than later. Waiting on the expansion, with zero content updates, isn’t working on either side of the pond.
Apparently.
The NPC idea would work for me too.
Wow. I can’t believe people are still opening/farming bags for that mini. That should tell ANet something if nothing else.
I’ve managed to get rid of the excess with that Christmas star or whatever. I hate Mawdrey though because it requires crafting. As long as the new trash compactor doesn’t require crafting, I’m all over it.
I tend to only play humans in every MMO.
Honestly, there’s not much choice as far as new and exciting MMOs to play. The majority of income now comes from loyal players who . . . ahem . . . don’t have anything better to play.
Harsh, but true. That reality kept DAoC #1 for a long time.
There’s not much, if anything, on the horizon. . . .
Majories!
No idea. But I can tell you my daughter plays a man toon so she can avoid all the whispers from desperate dudes . . . if that tells you anything.
I’m actually missing the old daily and monthly challenges. . . .
A short answer might be, that chinese players like the hardcore games more. GW2 is much more for casual players.
I love my WvW when I finish diner at home, and only have short time to play. So it’s kinda perfect for me.
This. For whatever reason, in Asia, their player-base enjoys a steeper challenge . . . almost to the point where grinding is mandatory IMHO. In North America and Europe, their players enjoys more casual content overall.
Case in point, whenever there is more ‘challenging’ content on this side of the pond, the boards fill with complaints.
Still, given recent developments with the expansion, the population doesn’t appear to growing over here either. At least, not from what I’ve been seeing.
But, again, it’s just my humble opinion and observations.
I think Blackgate is the ‘fullest’, but I know Jade Quarry and Tarnished Coast have pretty thick populations too.
Tarnished Coast is the ‘unofficial’ RP server – FYI.
Add this option to random guild invites, and I’m sold.
Good question. I’m interested in knowing too.
That they took out the underwater portions of PvP.
Yes, indeed, sour grapes. I get those whispers as well. And after I block them, I see the responses to those sour grapes in map chat after.
Being a good winner is easy. Being a gracious loser is a whole ’nother tier. It takes time for some people to understand that.
My favorite whisper? “I could beat your kitten IRL.”
Just smile, block, and move on. Life is too short for stupid kitten.
Another poster suggested Warden. I think that was pretty spot-on.
