The random Patch Note - Reaction

Deep down, I think they fired the original designers of thief long ago and have been slowly trying to remove thief from the game because they don’t like it. That or they got a bet going around on who can disappoint thieves the most O.o

Have to say the changes they’ve done to thief seem like they have 0 clue on where they want thief to be. If only there could be some special guidance from the community… rhymes with CDI… oops ><

Well to be honest, I think they have some weird direction that they want to take the thief in… I always got the sense that it was a venom sharing groupie or a trapper. Simply because that’s what they’re actively buffing/modifying from patch to patch.

-pouts- I’m staying as the hated-stealth-happy thief. You can’t make me change.

I defend in EotM all the time, its hugely amusing to wipe a large group of sheep because they don’t pay attention to red circles. I also go with the zerg sometimes, although the pansy commanders that run from fights all the time and then have no idea how to fight when they are forced to annoy me.
I have a few commanders on my friends list that are amazing in there, particularly School Buss. They know how to do it all, kill zergs and cap stuff as often as possible.

Just so you know, while the map has indeed been invaded by ktrainers who will claim all day EotM is PvE (hint, its not cause someone just killed you), there are guilds that come in there and use it how Anet intended, they hunt zergs looking for fights. When they do that the crying is epic from the guys on lvl 50 characters wearing lvl20 gear.

What kills me is the ignorance most of these people have about the map. I can never get people to get the Koda Hammer transform when I solo it up, despite it being THE MOST OP TRANSFORM IN THE GAME. Most of them don’t know you can get airstrike grenades or where sentry turrets come from.

I should roam EOTM more often…

I can never see EOTM as legit WvW. It’s sad to see a great WvW-potential map be molded into k-train farmfest, but again – lesser of the two evils. People can farm EOTM to their heart’s content without crippling the goals of PvE or WvW.

The few times I ventured into EOTM was fun, but not something I want to go back to on a regular basis. Before you can change EOTM to reflect WvW goals, there needs to be a new spot for k-trains to go to. (But I’m pretty sure Anet wants to avoid a farm map as much as possible.)

I don’t care about the karma, exp or loot-train going on i EoTM. What infuriates me is that amount of Wxp they earn while doing it. It’s way more than you get from regular (real) wvw. While the blood dries on your weapon, and you proudly look upon dozens of dead enemies that tried to take your keep in a fierce and tiresome battle, some random upleveled bearbow earned more WvW-experience than you while picking flowers in EoTM.

I no longer know if the gold-invader in front of me is a really experienced player that i should be wary of, or if he comes from EoTM and has yet to realize that his keyboard has more buttons than “1”.

Yes, this is so very true. World experience doesn’t mean anything. My general rule: Bronze and lower are skilled in WvW. Silver is meh, gold and up are free loot bags. The ranks go backwards.

Yeah I do miss the old fights, where revealed on sic’em was not present. I do miss thieves making it impossible for you to run zerker, because they could just abuse the stealth mechanic and massacre you either in 3 seconds, or in 12 once both your invul. buffs ran off. (If you even had both of them, just to survive some secs longer)

Great times eeh? Running all day long in the most glass cannon build possible, because they could not even target you to damage you. Running all day long with 25 stacks of bloodlust, because you could chose if you want to die or not.

Must have been great! Almost as great as it is for us now to see these n00bs pop every stealth skill they got on their possession, because the first didn’t work as they had revealed from sic ’em on them. Almost!

Oh, please. An ill-timed backstab could be the death of you. It required delicate positioning, grace, and finesse. I don’t see the same applied to rapid fire.

All rivalry aside, let’s not open that can of worm on stealth mechanics.

-que entrance with a blast of smoke-

Hello rangers. I’m a thief, and an avid WvW roamer. I… -dodges arrow- Oi. Before you sic your pets on me, just hear me out.

The other thieves and I kinda miss fighting the rangers of old. I’m talking about the ones that carried a sword/x and danced around almost as good as us thieves. Almost. But! -dodges an axe- I’m deviating from the topic.

We miss the rangers from the time before the ‘full zerk rapid fire’ meta. We get it – that’s here to stay, and we’re learning to adapt and counter ‘em. We’ve discovered that such rangers flop like a fish out of water, once focused out in the open. And I’ve never seen them willingly leave their group.

I mean, I’m all for dirty fighting (I’m a thief…) but we do miss the melee rangers. Honest. Good fights. It was rare to come across such rangers, but it was always welcomed. And, it was this display of prowess that convinced me that rangers could be quite deadly when played right.

You guys are still out there, right?

This just isn’t worth it. I’m certain a warrior can survive a zerg and keep re-bannering until reinforcements arrive. It’s a roamer/havoc specialty, yes, but consider how much can be accomplished by one warrior against an opposing force, with little to no risk.

If people still want to contest keeps and buy time for allies, it can be done by roamers. It’s much more difficult to survive within a zerg than go kamikaze banner.

difference between ascended trinkets

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Arikyali.5804

Arikyali.5804

They’re both the same, regardless of which merchant you bought it from. The only difference is cost.

Perhaps your friends meant the infusions themselves, not the slots in the trinkets? WvW infusion are different from others, but the upgrades are catered for WvW, not AR.

Edit:

The first ring has a WvW infusion. Stat upgrades but no Agony resist. Second has a versatile simple agony resistance. No stat upgrade but it has AR. The 3rd ring has two slots: a Simple infusion and +5 AR. Crafted AR infusions can only go into AR slots in infused rings – the second slot. This is a list of all the different types of infusions that can go into the first slot: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Infusion

Some infusions can be crafted in the MF to include both AR and stats – but they only go into the primary slot. If you don’t care for AR upgrades, the the WvW infusions are better. But if you do want AR, you need to craft your infusions, or use the versatile simple infusion.

Alternatively, rings (both normal and infused) can drop in WvW and fractals. If you bought a ring with the stats you wanted, don’t feel bad about ‘wasting’ laurels. You can’t pick stats on ascended trinkets obtained through RNG.

PvPers are notorious for acting like terrible human beings. I know it’s hard when you feel like everyone is looking at you and putting pressure on you. The reality is that most of the time, you are putting more pressure on yourself than they ever could.

The truth is, they want to win and they want to win really badly. It doesn’t excuse their actions, but it’s why they are so quick to judge people who might hurt their chances of winning.

In other words, it’s not you, it’s them. Keep in perspective the fact that most of the time, these people are not trying to hurt you, but rather they’re trying to protect their own desires and are reacting out of fear.

Keep calm and do your thing. It’s all you can do. If that’s not enough for others, then too bad. You will never win everyone’s approval.

Jeez, thanks for painting every PvPer in a bad light. You make us all sound like we’re bloodthristy elitists. Not every PvPer deserves that bad rep.

Imagine if this was a fractal or dungeon, and he couldn’t leave. PvE players would have acted the same way. Everyone is human and makes mistakes.

Last Refuge - change it please.

in Thief

Posted by: Arikyali.5804

Arikyali.5804

Almost every thief dislikes this trait – if you’re at 25% health or below, the last thing you need is an uncounted stealth, accidental attack, and forced reveal skill denying you stealth/escape.

Let me give a comparison: It’s a bit similar to the mesmer trait desperate decoy: at 25% health, you cloak and summon a clone in your position.

Why is this trait disfavored?

-There’s a couple more favorable traits to choose from in the first place.
-Same reason for the hate on Last Refuge – possibility of unwanted reveal (granted, mesmers don’t rely on stealth as much as a thief does)
-summons a clone that may not be wanted – you can only have 3 illusions out, so a new summon will destroy an existing one.

Yep. Desperate Decoy is never touched. It hurts more than help. And yet, thieves have its cousin on automatic trait.

now if you’ll argue that a free stealth = free backstab, no. You know what’s a good example of a helpful trait triggered on health? Mesmer’s Illusionary Invigoration – it recharges all of your shatter skills at a certain threshold. I have purposely let myself get below 50% before healing back up, just so I can get a free recharge on my shatter skills. As long as I’m careful and don’t let myself die, it’s super useful! I can control /when/ I want to take the risk. And there is no backlash to having a recharge on shatter skills, as opposed to stealthing and getting revealed.

tl;dr – change last refuge so it doesn’t end up killing us.

So pistol + blinding powder still broken?

in Thief

Posted by: Arikyali.5804

Arikyali.5804

It’s not a bug – blinding powder also blinds the target wherever they are, as well as drop the field. If you want to drop BP and not be revealed, you have to make sure you’re not going to hit anything (drop target first). Then you can BP in stealth to your heart’s content.

Sylvari can grow their own armor, correct? Perhaps when affronted by colder climates, they will grow more protective skin. The traveling Sylvari probably had time to adjust to the climate change, while the one in the Grove immediately stepped through the gate. Think about it: firs and pine oaks have thin, prickly, and hardy texture to protect themselves from the cold air. Tropical fauna are designed to lose excessive water.

What: Dagger Storm
Why: It reflects rapid fire. Rangers have been on the receiving end of unwarranted hate for so long, and the obvious culprit must be thieves, since thieves are dangerously OP. So thieves shouldn’t be able to counter the new buff to rapid fire, and should just accept balance and die a horrible, horrible, death. Because everyone hates thieves.

^I feel like a hunted criminal in WvW nowadays since almost every roaming ranger pops rapid fire the very second they see me.

Condis & Bunks Have Ruined Small Group Play

in WvW

Posted by: Arikyali.5804

Arikyali.5804

These aren’t my ideas but I have heard them in the past and kinda open to them.

1. Create gear with condi defensive stat. Then you could mix power defensive and condi defensive gear. More variety in builds this way.

2. Add some sort of condi ferocity stat. This would limit the complete stacking of dire gear. You can’t run PVT gear and put out the same damage as a DVT gear set. You need ferocity to add burst to a power build where condi doesn’t have this metric.

Maybe not a ‘condi ferocity’ since an extra stat would mess up a lot of builds. But I do like gear with anti-condi stats. Arguably that would be vitality, so maybe anti duration or anti condi stacking.

Flippin' Rangers!!

in Thief

I never thought I would say this, but…

I think I hate rangers more than I hate hammer warriors.

At least I can dodge that blasted hammer! What cruelty have thieves deserved to be hunted down in WvW and pinned down with rapid fire? Oh, woe for every thief that comes across a longbow ranger these days. It’s like a long range backstab, – you don’t need to get in close and stab them in the back! That sudden, “ahh my gosh, I’m dying from one skill!” is OUR signature trait!! (crud, did I just make thieves sound OP?) But that’s not the point! A graceful backstab would require at least some level of finesse~ And I don’t see the finesse in rapid fire!!

Even a bearbow can do it. A bearbow!! Since when did a PvE bearbow become a THREAT?! Answer me, since when?! -shakes fist- Come back here and fight me, you little bearbow ranger! Let me see how long you’d last against my blades, if you weren’t hiding inside your zerg!! -huff-

All this pent-up hatred of the thieves seemed to have come in full swing! Why? Why us?! Were rangers this neglected and forgotten, that such extremities had to be made? It simply could not be the class design – I have come across rangers in the past who have put up a vicious fight. Sadly, such rangers were few and far between. But it convinced me it was not a lack of balance, but merely a lack of understanding of the ranger class. I had always viewed a skilled ranger to be a nasty counter to the thieves.

…Now rangers are a counter to thieves, regardless of skill level. -sulks to the shadows-
