Out of range steal

I had not noticed this. If I use steal and it immediately goes into cooldown, I just assume I must’ve used the stolen skill right away by accident. Do you still shadowstep to your target?

Oh hey, zoom "hacks"

Arikyali.5804

First of all, I know there is a quote/unquote ‘legitimate’ way for this to be achieved, and it’s not really a hack. But why should it be possible at all?

A fully fortified keep can have all of their siege destroyed by a handful of arrow carts, and there is no real method to counter that. Any siege built to take out the arrow carts will just be destroyed – along with anyone trying to built it. Tell me how a fully fortified keep, stocked with supply, with 90% upgrades, and set with cannons, oils, mortars, AC, siege, etc, defended with people and a commander, can get flipped in a few minutes, just because people can shoot behind the wall? I should be expecting golems against a guarded keep, not rams and long range arrow carts.

People can shoot behind the gate and walls, keep an army from defending, and it’s allowed? Why is this still happening? It’s not the same as mesmer portals or cata/treb spots. You can counter those. You can’t counter ‘zoom hacked’ arrow carts.

You know another thing comes to mind. Women don’t exactly wear plated armor in public but they do wear mini skirts, tube tops and other apparel that leaves little to the imagination. Then, when it’s mirrored in a video game suddenly it’s impractical and too revealing?

Oh come on. You seriously think all women wear that? Right now I’m in jeans and t-shirt. Irl I don’t wear skirts. They’re a nuisance and completely impractical.

I’ve seen guys go out jogging bare-chested, as much as women in mini skirts at the mall. So hello, where is the eye candy for the ladies?

I have been patiently waiting for the gemstore to add an awesome looking light armor for my mesmer – I’m still waiting. I want her to look like she’s ready to kick butt – not go to the ball. It’s very time consuming to make armor that makes female look awe-inspiring.

You have any idea how long it took me to mix and match a medium armor set that made my thief look ready to kill? Quite a while. At least medium armor has several trenchcoat looking designs to pick from, all of which I liked. But it wasn’t the variety that was an issue, it was the designs in general. I’m always jealous of how a male toon looks, because it’s portrayed so well. They have flippin blades hanging everywhere.

If you really need a justification as to why rifles…
Assassin -> assassinating people from high-rise building windows (like the movies!) with high-powered sniper rifles….
In-game, it would give us a (I hope) a 1200 range weapon. This point alone should trump staffs (which might fall into the melee category, depends on how developers tilt their heads… martial artist ninjas or spell casting ninjas).

I gotta disagree with rifles. To me, the concept for GW2 rifles are loud, noisy, and cumbersome. Trying to snipe someone miiight set off alarms everywhere. At least pistols are easy to conceal.

If we want to take this honestly, real world ninjas didn’t run across rooftops in full black, throwing shurikens and disappearing in smoke. They would dress as common folks, and fought with whatever tools they could get their hands on.

Don’t our thieves use whatever weapons we can steal off of our enemies?

Aside from fighting, try going out in WvW with groups of 2 or 3. It’s a bit more forgiving if you have friends watching your back. Also learn when to run from a fight – yes, I’m serious. Thieves are dirty fighters, and resetting fights is one of their greatest advantages.

If you don’t feel confident in full zerker, start off with training wheel gears, like Valkyrie or soldier. You can get soldier gear for karma in Orr. As you get more comfortable roaming, swap out to higher damage stats.

Desktop is usually the best choice for gaming in general. If you need to upgrade one part, you can do it easily. For a laptop, you’d need to buy a brand new one for a hardware upgrade. Laptops also get their graphic cards updated less frequently than desktops.

I will say this: I play GW2 on a laptop, and only on very few occasions does it give issues. I’m a college student and I move about the campus a lot, so getting a laptop > desktop. GW2 with a non-gaming laptop is very possible, just that desktop is superior in every other aspect.

Edit: Ah sorry, took a second look at the screenshot. Since it’s not WvW it would be the consumable healing pod. I think you can also steal them off plant-based enemies? I’m not sure though.

Nice combo for an armor-wearing mesmer. It gave me some pretty good ideas

Think you can do a female asura look? Most of the armor is the same for both male and female asura.

Here’s Avkii, my little elementalist. I have 2 new requests

First request: A design that can relate to her Asuran background, perhaps with magi-tech influence. I especially want an elegant look, nothing rugged. She prefers the element of fire, so armor should be in bright colors of red, gold, etc. The limitation is a total pricetag of 20 gold, but I’ll allow a max of 35 gold if it really looks well. And, no gemstore items, unless spare pieces can also be used for my mesmer’s previous requests.

Second Request: I have this hat for her – http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Wizard's_Hat and I want an outfit to match. Let me see what you come up with! Limitation is the same as the first request.

Alright, here’s a challenge for you.

I got a couple requests for my Sylvari Mesmer. You ready?

First request:
Cultural armor look – however, not something with all the leafy-flowery-dressy looks. I don’t know if it’s possible, but I actually want her to look more sturdy than what the cultural light armor reflects. Most of it looks like the armor would snap off like twigs. And I want something that would cover her up. It doesn’t have to be restricted to cultural armor – if you can use non-planty armor, but pass them off as planty designs, go for it. But, she has to wear a mask.

Second request:
An outfit that would look more like medium/heavy armor, to compliment a sword fighting mesmer sylvari. I’m tired of all the dresses! I’m not going to the ball, I’m going out in the harsh unforgiving landscape to kick butt.

Third request:
Let me see if you can improve on one of my own designs. I went for a legit robe-like outfit, and it took me a long time of mix and matching to accomplish that. However, I am searching for more intricate gloves and shoes (and possibly shoulders) that can stand out.

You are free to use anything, including ascended armor. (I will say that I do not like the ascended leggings, because it makes my sylvari look…chubby). I like the colors pink, purple, red, and gold. She’s an evening bloom, so I try to keep her with darker tones, as opposed to lighter ones.

Let me see what you come up with.

To compare, I’ll drop a generic zerker build:

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fhUQNAsaRnsISBa2pGmqB3aGp0gQ1aIdAuQRL9JaxHA-TFSBwAPOCAmVCeV53N1fQpPYxDAo5+DAOFAkCIPhVA-w

In exchange for losing 4%-8% crit chance, and ~25 critical damage, it gains about ~500 condi damage and ~2,600 health. Do you think it could be a viable shatter build for WvW?

Disclaimer: I don’t know if someone already made this build or not. But if they have, credit goes where credit is due. This is just a build I’ve been theorycrafting – I haven’t tried it out myself yet.

Unidentifiable Objects

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Arikyali.5804

Arikyali.5804

I’m talking about these: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Unidentifiable_Object

What are they really, and what makes them unidentifiable? They’re not like other npc junk. You know what a dandelion is, and the text is marked in white. That kind of junk is used to add flavor in the game, and just give a sense of where you’ve been. These ‘unidentified objects’ are all texted in gray. And they look like…what? And story-wise, why would a champ carrying a bag of loot, bother with some wierd npcable junk?

I got a theory that these were potential loot drops (lodestones, bloodstone dust, exotics or rares) where you just didn’t have enough magic find luck to unlock upon opening the bag/box. Thus, you can’t identify what the heck it is, and might have npced a precurser.

Any others have a possible idea? Or are they really just random junk tossed into the game?

Camp Soloing

in Thief

Posted by: Arikyali.5804

Arikyali.5804

No specific thief advice since I dont play it, but if you are struggling you can always pull the 2 ranged defenders out from the others as long as you are fighting at range too.

Just draw agro and then move out of they mods “zone”. The melee ones will leave and the ranged ones will stay because they can still hit you, so you can then just SB spam them and then take on the other 2 after.

Not as fast as stacking them all behind the nearest building and AoEing them all at once, but easier to do if you’re struggling.

That is what I used to do, but I have to flip the camp quickly if I want to be effective. too much time on one camp means less time scouting and roaming. It might also attract other roamers to my position, and I’d have to fight them and the camp.

Camp Soloing

in Thief

Posted by: Arikyali.5804

Arikyali.5804

I need advice on one of the fundamental tasks for a WvW roamer: flipping camps solo. I know it requires S/P, spam Blinding Powder, SB to pull the aggro, and withdraw heals back into a wall, but I’m obviously missing something if I’m not flipping the camp. I can get rid of a decent majority of the camp’s occupants before I go down.

1. Each camp has a different place to stand, but where are the spots?

2. How can you draw the ranged guards close enough to your position, in order to blind them as well?

3. Knockdowns and stuns seem to be more consistent than my stun breakers. I usually want to take the dolyaks out first, but I’ve seen other thieves take them and the camp.

4. What traits can be used?

5. I immediately avoid camps that are upgraded, if I’m solo. but is it possible to flip those as well?

Any advice given will be greatly appreciated.

This bothers me, so so much.

Short answer: yes. You’ll be glassy, but zerker covers all the basic needs.

2. What is the cooldown for pet swapping, both traited and non-traited? He mostly kept to the drakehound for our fight.
3. Likely swiftness for weapon swap.
4. Had cripples and immobilize, used them often
5. Uptime on boon protection was pretty consistent.
6. sharpening stones – I’m trying to remember if they popped up in lieu with my health. I want to say they did.
7. What do you mean by fast moving arrows? Rapid fire skill?
8. Piercing arrows, yes
9. Opening strikes in the middle of fights, gained from stealth.
10. I think he had decent boon regeneration, and did not use healing spring.

It took two thieves. Our fight had turned into a 2v2, but the other opponent was a warrior whom we dispatched quickly. I do remember the ranger had very good escape, even through water, and I had to shadowstep quite a lot to catch up to him.

1. They had a longbow and sword/x – he/she kept mostly to the longbow, so I didn’t see what was their offhand when they did swap weapons. The pets were a krytan drakehound, and black widow spider.

2. They were pretty tanky, but still did decent damage. 1v1 we couldn’t down each other. We both got to critical a few times, but he recovered quickly, before I could burst him down. He also had a nice array of escapes. It ended up taking 2 thieves to down him.
