Rework Death Blossom

Most thieves can agree that Death Blossom is one of the weakest skills for a thief. The damage output isn’t worth the initiative. Its only uses are a quick evade in a tight burst, or clearing out mobs. Even then, there are other skills that do a better job of that.

What if…Death Blossom could reflect projectiles? Would that make it too OP? I’d just like to see this skill with a bit more utility use.

…It’s a pretty skill.

To land a CnD on ranged proffesions simply press 5 then steal or inf signet, the teleport will make it land.

My gosh, I never knew that actually worked…thank you. I always assumed CnD would get interrupted with the teleport. Once I get better at the timing, I won’t have to stealth my steal anymore.

TG isn’t as helpful as basilisk, imo. Don’t get me wrong, it has its advantages in an outnumbered fight, but one of the easiest ways to counter it, is to simply wait out the npcs. And they follow the stealthed thief.

Traps aren’t entirely useless. I dueled a guildie in a close quartered space, and kept stepping on his traps. Most fights take place in areas with plenty of space, but I bet traps have a great advantage when there’s not much chance to avoid them.

D/D power/crit fails in spvp, you can not get the stat combinations it would need to work (you will either be to squish or do marginal damage), P/D power/crit is also very bad (P/x basically gets hardcountered by retaliation).

You either need sb avoidance or x/P control or S/D avoidance without any of those you are dead meat.

I should mention that this is for WvW, not sPvP. That’s not to say I don’t take D/D and P/D into sPvP. That’s where I can practice 1v1, and be ‘underpowered’ to learn my build’s limits and advantages. Also where I can fight other classes/builds without distraction from havoc, mobs, zergs, and scouting duty.

Thieves can not go toe to toe with any other “melee” class, you need the avoidance your problem is basically summed up in dropping sb for P/D.

I’m gonna disagree there. I have seen it done, met thieves who’ve done it, and actually have managed it one or two times myself. Saying it’s ‘not possible’ means the melee classes are OP – and everyone knows that thief is supposed to be the most OP class, obviously.

(Truth be told, the annoying ones are the ranged classes. They won’t let me CnD them!)

Everything is “easier said than done,” but that’s what you need to do to win. So do it. You asked how to defeat DPS Guards, and I gave you the answer. Now you just need to be able to execute.

Haha, touche. But I’m talking about the guards who know what they’re doing against a backstab thief, not the dps guard I managed to kill in pvp by landing a stun after a venom.

That fight was too easy, I’m not counting it as a win for my kill list. I’m after the big prey, the dps guard that can avoid a simple stun trick. I need to know when to drop the stun, how to make him panic, and figure out how to escape his attacks as well. It’s not going to be endless lockdown stun.

1. I don’t know, but I’ve never had a problem with DPS Guardians. Black Powder generally does a great job at mitigating their damage output. The Burn is nasty, but you can work around that. Not really sure what to say here.

No black powder for me. I can usually stalemate against one long enough, but a good DPS guardian will add enough pressure to force me into refuge. That’s where I lose most of my fights against them.

3. What your probably encountered was a Axe + Shield + Greatsword Warrior in Full Berserker gear with Hambow traits. They are mean, and their Eviscerates can hit for 12.000 easy. But again, Black Powder can mitigate most of their damage. Just be weary of 100 Blades since it partially penetrates Black Powder. Make sure to kite or out-stealth their Berserker Stance and Endure Pain and you should be able to kill them just as fast as they can kill you.

Yep, that sounds like it. I made the mistake of starting the fight with a steal.

1. Land your stolen daze.

Easier said than done, since most guards will expect some kind of stun – either from my venom or from the daze.

I have a personal ‘kill list’ for my thief, where I try to come across a class/build and try to beat them. So far, I have a few more to cross off the list, but I will need advice for these:

1. DPS guardian

2. MM necro

3. Some kind of warrior build that facerolled what I thought would be an easy fight, and wrecked me in 0.5 seconds. Bloody hell, didn’t even have time to react and evade that burst.

Edit: I’m a d/d thief, offhand p/d. Shortbow was nice, but I find the pistol mainhand to be much more effective.

Thank you, seriously. Someone else who played thief and understands how glass cannon they are.

Not all mes run the PU build – my preference for my mesmer is heavy zerker bursts. Even though, I think it’s safe to say that mesmer zerker is much more forgiving than thief zerker. If you mess up on mesmer, you pull out the lockdowns. If you mess up on thief, you – um…cringe?

I have my own personal opinion for D/P that I won’t mention, so no thieves can backstab me here…heh. But I would like to see maybe…more risk in using that leap combo.

I’m managing to beat up D/P thieves more effectively, at least in havoc groups (I am way better in havoc than solo, hah) I still need to work on my timing against them, but I’m finding and hitting them more often when they stealth.

I run the backstab D/D build, so how can I counter a backstab D/P thief? It seems the only way I can stand my ground against them is to switch to D/P myself. But my D/D build is still different from the meta D/P, so it doesn’t reach full potential. Personally, I don’t like D/P – it feels gimmicky. I want to master the more difficult backstab build.

I talked with other thieves, they told me there’s no real way to win a fight against D/P thieves.

Stealth and clones bug?

in Thief

Posted by: Arikyali.5804

Arikyali.5804

So, it’s not a bug. Well, I feel sorry for thieves. It seemed odd since I would teleport, but my clone did not.

I knew about clones destroying themselves when a thief went into stealth, but I also read that the fix now bugged the clone, to not lose targeting on the thief. I assumed that tied in with me somehow being able to leap to the stealthed thief, where neither myself nor my clone should have targeted.

Stealth and clones bug?

in Thief

Posted by: Arikyali.5804

Arikyali.5804

I read somewhere that there is a bug with mesmer clones and thief stealth, and I might have just seen it firsthand. I was in WvW earlier with my mesmer, and ran across a thief. During our fight, he stealthed as I used illusionary leap (main hand sword, skill 3). I successfully followed it up with the teleport, and used blurred frenzy. When the thief’s stealth timed out, he’s down on the ground for my stomp.

I’m pretty sure that isn’t supposed to happen. I can remember; I cast the leap, he stealth, I swapped places with my clone, and used my burst. The swap immobilizes my enemy as well, and I’m almost certain it caught the stealth thief. I am supposed to have lost target with him, correct?

Whirling Axe: what to do?

in Thief

Posted by: Arikyali.5804

Arikyali.5804

I run into this issue in WvW. Stealing from a warrior gives the Whirling Axe, but what the heck do I do with it?

I use stealing as a gap closer, and it’s traited to stealth me as well. So when I have the axe, it’s one less stealth skill, one less gap closer, has no viable function to me, cannot use it effectively with a combo, and doesn’t seem to do much damage. The only time I could use it effectively was getting up in the face of my opponent and whirling away…but any skilled roamer can dispatch a thief who gets too close for too long…especially if that roamer is the warrior I stole the axe from.

Another thief said he just waits to pull back and ditch the axe, before going back in the fight. But that’s a waste of time for me…and if I’m pulling back, I’m usually in stealth. I don’t want to reveal myself until I’m ready.

What do you guys do when you get a whirling axe?

I’m getting annoyed how my thief keeps getting mistaken for a Commoner instead of a Street Rat. I’ll pretend the reason Petra is in my home instance – and how she seems to know me – is because she remembers when my toon used to beg for food in the alley behind the tavern. But that’s inside the glitchy instance, so I can live with it. But outside in the open world? Come on…

According to this little girl at the Gendarran Fields refuge camp, I was there when the fire happened in Divinity’s Reach orphanage. That’s the commoner’s story – I was too busy saving Quinn’s sorry butt for the umpteenth time. And to show I really AM Street Rat, this is my character’s summary.

Do any other street rats, commoners, or nobles get mistaken for something else?

First off, Anet, you guys did a pretty darn good job. I really like the event. I love the concept, I love the design team’s burning chaotic city, and I love hating you guys for demolishing all that is Lion’s Arch. I love having the chance to take my stealthy thief out in PvE. I also like you’re taking a proactive step with breaking up mindless zergfest.

…The problem is that most people don’t know that.

We still have players tagging up shouting, ‘Stack on me to win this event!’ People are still zerging for peanut loot bags, and people bypass the dead and terrified citizens. No one seems to understand that saving the citizens of LA is a map-wide effort, and best done by actually saving its citizens. On the first day, my server managed to save close to a thousand people, but I haven’t seen that since. It’s usually stuck around 500.

I get bored of zerging, and have had at more times struck out on my own, or with small groups of players. But there have been one or two times where I’m fighting alone, and someone just runs past without assisting because they’re trying to get to the next zerg event.

Zerging is counter-productive. It scales up events, and it distracts people from saving the scared citizens. Breaking up the zerg needs to be more obvious. There is more loot gained based on the citizens you saved, but everyone will keep zerging because 1) they don’t know there’s a chance to get better loot, or 2) they know, but since too much don’t know/don’t care they’ll just go back to zerging. Basic zerg loot is better than solo loot, if only 500 people are gonna get saving.

I know these events are meant to be ’don’t need an instruction manual and everyone figues it out in five minutes’….but no one’s figured it out.

Torina Panney is apparently one of the orphans of Divinity’s Reach. And I guess if you’re a commoner who saved the hospital, you’re supposed to get a special dialogue.
