I got NOTHING because I got disconnected 5 mins before the event finished. And I was there busting my kitten since the start.

Exact same thing happened to me. I disconnected right when we were chasing the ancient Karka into the hive, and I have been play from when the event started to 2:50 PST. I got virtually nothing from that entire event, and it was nothing but a grind.

Eh, my first time there is was incredibely enjoyable (right after it opened on my overflow). The issue is, I think, that it won’t be useful to 80s for grinding in any way. In the long run, it will just be another map visited and then forgotten as well go back to farming Orr or Frostgorge.

If they beef up rewards though, that’d be great.

Amazing! another “quoting ANET people” post! we need more of this.

The new dungeon is not out, the new gear is not available. WAIT to see how they managed this, and then take conclussions.

The new gear is out: http://www.gw2db.com/items?filter-item-rarity=8 Look at it and then tell yourself it’s not necessary to remain competitive.

Not much different than rare versus exotic. Yes, you’ll have to grind—but not much. It’s still not a lengthy gear treadmill like in other games. It’s a very short gear treadmill, and even then, you can still play in top notch PvP without the ascended gear—just not the Fractals dungeon.

5 tokens every 15-45 mins and you need 1350-2000 tokens per item. It makes the drop rate on badges of honor look downright generous. Don’t kid yourself, this is an Aion-caliber grind in a game that’s core philosophy was skill not gear. Ask any guild who came from Rift. I know 80 players+ that came to GW2 solely because gear was touted as cosmetic only, guess what game they aren’t playing as of today? In one fell swoop Anet galvanized the player base into content locusts and disgruntled former fans, neither of which will be around for long. If endless gear grinds are so good for player population, then why aren’t we all still playing Warhammer?

Yet another post that fails to take into account the possibility of the token amount increasing. I don’t know if it will, but they stated that you get more rewards the further in/harder it gets, so it’s entirely possible that it’ll be much quicker than you’re thinking.

Rangers are still useless
Warriors keep getting buffed when they are OP
Thieves are forced to all roll D/D
Mesmers are screwed in PVE and WvW now

Care to say how Mesmers are screwed in PvE. Oh, and I’m an 80 Mesmer, I will correct you on anything you say that is factually inaccurate—so be careful.

Moa Morph: Targets transformed by this skill have 5 new and less-frustrating skills, and this skill can also be used underwater to turn enemies into tuna. This skill now removes Death Shroud from the target instead of the necromancer being stuck in Death Shroud.
Portal: This skill’s recharge has been increased to 90 seconds.
Illusionary Duelist, Phantasmal Swordsman, Phantasmal Mage, Phantasmal Defender, Phantasmal Disenchanter, Phantasmal Rogue, Phantasmal Warlock, Illusionary Mariner, Illusionary Whaler, Phantasmal Berserker, and Phantasmal Warden: These skills must now be cast in line-of-sight of the target. These skills now behave as normal attacks that the mesmer must connect in order to summon the phantasm, and they will fail if the mesmer is blind or the ability is cast on an invulnerable target.
Phantasmal Mage: This skill’s confusion has been increased to 3 stacks for 3 seconds from 1 stack for 9 seconds. The recharge on Phantasmal Mage’s skill has been increased to 6 seconds from 5 seconds.
The Prestige: This skill’s damage has been increased by 100%.
Phantasmal Haste: This trait now works.

Moa Morph is still overpowered in a 1 on 1 fight. The Prestige and Phantasmal Mage have both been buffed.

But hey, not being able to use Phantasms through solid objects and Portal have a 30 second longer cooldown completely ruins us… Care to explain how?

I support this post.

You shouldn’t, it’s very ignorant of the facts (at least on thief).

fixed it for you

Thief backstab needs to be nerfed into the ground.

Il play thief in structured pvp until they do,

What did you fix and why lol? I was saying the guy you quoted and said you support him was wrong about Mesmers.

Nope. kitten anet. I’m pissed.

I was reading this guy’s mind when he posted, this was what he was thinking:

(Ugh, I hate Arenanet, let me look through the forums, because that’s fun. A thread that’s speaking positively about ANet… An opinion different than mine? I can’t let that slide. You think ANet is good? Nope. Kitten anet. I’m pissed. People want to hear my negative thoughts in a positive thread.)

Anyhow, I do like the direction they took with this patch. I do appreciate it, but it’s not enough, they need to do more. And guys, Mesmer barely got nerfed at all in this patch. Portal is 30 seconds more in cooldown, oh no. And you can no longer attack people through walls, the horror!

Oh by the way, I’m an 80 Mesmer, this patch barely did anything to hurt the class.

Are you kidding me? Most are estimating about 90hrs of Fractal grind for ONE PIECE. I’m being modest and estimating~70hrs.

What part of this is NOT a grind and NOT a gear treadmill? They are definitely adding more ascended items and more content with higher agony requirements. That is 1 thing they have NOT been vague about.

And just so you know, a full ascended trinket/weapon/armor set wil give you up to 40% more to a stat then the exotic counterpart. This is true eve if you keep your normal exo armor for the rune bonuses…

And this isn’t counting the higher-rarity infusions that are not yet out – the blue quality infusions have +5 to stats, +5 to agony, rare/exo/asc versions of infusions will probably have at least 20 to that same stat. In which case, the modest estimate of up to 40% will grow to up to 75%.

Meant to say PvE, but the point stands. You’ll still be able to do all of the old PvE content with exotics (like we already do). But more than that, how are people making estimates before it’s out? Do they know exactly how much it’ll require, and how you gain the stuff to make it? Can you give me a link to see where you got this information?

This one’s a good read, start from there:
http://www.guildwars2hub.com/guides/basics/complete-guide-fractals-mists

Pay close attention to the screenshots.

Thank you for the link, that’s very interesting. I’m now very, very worried. But, there is one thing that we need to keep in mind. Internal testing is for testing bugs/balance, these things could be dramatically different when they’re launched. Let’s all get angry after it’s launched if it turns out to be insanely hard to get. Let’s not jump the gun.

Edit: Wait, didn’t they say the rewarding scaled the further/harder it got? Doesn’t that mean that we’ll get more the further we get in?

True. Same with me, i even offered to help them for FREE with bugs, but i got deleted post and INFRACTION LOL, and not once i disrespect anyone or swear. I just offered my game design skills for free to help ANET making better game, and lose all those annoying bugs that aren’t addressed at all.

Feedback on patch:

New content: Great.
Class fixes: None.
Class Balance: Poor.
New gear: Blasphemy!

Again, contact me, i will compile the list of bugs to be fixed, free of charge

Now i will again get some :" do not post if you aren’t contributing" infractions for no reason.

No class fixes? What? Some critical issues still exist, but there were definitely quite a few fixes.

Long and short of my feelings:

- my Ranger will be shelved until Anet learns to fix any of the problems everybody is talking about.
- my Necro is getting better, but ultimately isn’t there yet. the biggest problems weren’t addressed.
- my Guardian didn’t see much this patch, but it’s still the most viable option.
- should prob roll a Warrior, since it’s clear they’re Anet’s favorite child. all they saw were buffs.
- Anet focused on underwater combat improvement this patch for most professions. Pitiful.

They didn’t focus on underwater combat, there were things for underwater combat, but the overwhelming majority of fixes were for land combat.

Nov 15 Patch Mesmer

in PvP

Posted by: Arius.7031

Arius.7031

Mesmers don’t need nerfs.

Oh, yes. Yes. They do. Remember they’re using the Warrior as their base line, as it’s been in development the longest. How threatening are Warriors? They aren’t. Guess what that means for you. Enjoy your nerfs. You’re currently overpowered. The only reason why you think it’s the other classes that are the problem is because you’re the one using it.

Same deal with Thief players. You see them counter-whining on the forums all the time because they’re enclosed to their own class. They don’t know how bad they are, or worse, they do, but they’re just trying to downplay it in the hopes the developers will actually believe it, and go easier on them.

They’re both going to get hit hard, and probably not as hard as they should be hit.

I main a Necro in SPvP, and I use a Mesmer primarily in PvE (kind of reverse huh?) The Mesmer only needs 2 nerfs:

1. Portal needs fixing, limit the number of people who can go through a portal (to 5 IMO). Make it so each one can only use it twice. Make it so nothing goes through portals except your character/buffs (no siege or anything like that).

2. Shatter build burst needs lowered, but needs to be more sustained (decrease cooldown and damage).

Other than that, Mesmer is relatively balanced.

Actually imo there is 1 more fix needed to mesmer.

Phantasms need to do reduced damage after their first time. So when Duelist unloads for the first time for like 4-5k his second unload should do 2-2,5k max. Then 3rd should do 1-2k max etc.

Oh and Duelist should have his 100% projectile finisher taken down to 20%. It’s crazy how he can do 8 projectile finishers and apply for exaple 8 confusion stacks :P

An issue with nerfing Mesmer’s sustained damage is that it already suffers in PvE. The sustained damage of a Mesmer is on the low end compared to other classes. Nerfing phantasms further would only hurt this more—not to mention it’d pretty much kill any phantasm build. This would decrease build diversity.

How long until GW2 will become a p2w game?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Arius.7031

It more or less just became it. Crafting a legendary requires gold, tons of gold, which you can buy. And they’re now officially the only gear tier that won’t be obsoleted stats-wise.

Legendaries won’t have any different stats than ascended, which will be acquirable in game without gems. And besides, the stat boost is minor on the best of days—did you see the new pics of the items? A precision/power item that’s level 80 has about 5 more precision/power if it’s ascended than an exotic. Even if we could only get ascended items through cash shop, it still wouldn’t be pay to win. And we can get ascended items without the cash shop.

If we wait till it’s released we wait till it’s too late. If we wait till we get official information on it, we probably also wait until it’s too late, because the GW2-Edition of ArenaNet prefers not to inform players wtf is going on.

I don’t wanna ruin things before they start, but I prefer to step on the brakes BEFORE the car hits the wall.

Yeah, it’s already been in development long enough that you’re probably a few months late. And besides, you don’t know at all how it’s going to be implemented at all. It could be no different than how exotics behave compared to rares. Anyone else notice that it said “slight”?

Oh guys drop the melodrama, seriously! I don’t like this much either, but come on. Why aren’t you crying about the disparity between exotics and rares? And rares and masterwork? There’s already a gear grind, it’s just not terribly long. And did anyone notice is said “slight” in regards to it boosting stats? Are you guys kidding me? This is completely ridiculous. Have any of you even heard of exotics? Why didn’t you quit when you had to start grinding for them?

Give ANet a chance, cool your jets, think rationally. ANet could mess things up, true, or this could be implemented so it’s not much different than exotics. But go ahead, pre quit before you even have a clue how it’s going to turn out. That sounds completely reasonable!

The Thief build we love to hate

Arius.7031

you all complain about thief because it the easier to see. No one complain about shatter mesmer with frenzy…..because till now this build it still not discovered.Mesmer can " burst " (Aoe) more than a thief.Instead to find a counter all ppl come here and cry a river because they got pwned. what a bunch of crybaby. Or wanna talk about warrior? warrior can do same kitten of sin lockdown -> burst . Steal Like every other skill it subjeted to all other mitigation skill….dodge…invisibility… etc. “it not 100% hit”.
A part this how do you think this game will evolve? when a new strong build is discovered all ppl use that…etcetc i mean…. you cannot talk about “balance” because every day news build are discovered and a class get screwed.

I have a level 80 Shatter build Mesmer, and it’s definitely on the OP side of things, but it is not in any way comparable to a thief.

1. We don’t have anywhere near the sustained damage of a thief.
2. We can’t stealth nearly as much as a thief without sacrificing valuable slot skills (and even then stealth isn’t nearly as useful for us). This makes us far less survivable.
3. Shatter builds have sup-par damage aside from the shatter. If you fail somehow, gg.
4. Shatters can easily be stopped. Roll into the clone when it starts to run at you, for example, or use AoE’s.
5. We have no where near as much mobility as thieves.

A shatter build is OP to an extent (similar to a Warrior, a power/wells Necro, a Bunker ele, a grenade Engineer), there’s tons of “op” builds in this game. But there’s one class with a few builds more OP than the rest of them… One class to rule them all!

Been waiting to do that for a while—I hate bragging.

LoL when its only a 6 k lead bro I dont think provoking them would be a wise idea here eh? There’s still a lot of time left in this matchup and theyve been gaining more each day. Still props to our server for sticking it out and fighting man to man in this 3 way madness.

Haha no, I’m not meaning to brag or provoke. The guy I was quoting bragged about Maguuma having the lead, that just irked me. So I posted when Dh had the lead in potential points to counter his post. Maguuma still very well could win, it was more just to get at that specific guy because I hate bragging.

Showing that Maguuma has not given up /=/ bragging. I am a commander on Maguuma and am very happy that we are fighting this out rather than giving up. Sorry if your feelings were hurt, but there was less brag and more proud.

Great fight Darkhaven and Dragonbrand I’ve really enjoyed this match!!

**EVOH has really enjoyed this match as well!

Feelings weren’t hurt, just don’t like bragging!

But yeah, taking a pic of Maguuma being way ahead and then saying “Maguuma says hello”? That’s not just being proud of your server, that’s bragging bro :P. I could easily pull out a picture from when we beat your server and show a 400+ point lead, and then say “Darkhaven says hello”. But that’s not necessary, I don’t flaunt success.

I like the end game, just wish there were more rewards (skins/ranks), and that current rewards actually did something (badges don’t get me anything I actually want, karma is only really useful for Legendaries or temple gear).

WvW
SPvP
3 world bosses
2 80 zones
-Straight up mob farming
-Dynamic event farming
-Resource farming
25 explorable mode paths
Crafting
Many unique achievements

I love the variety of the end game in this. I just wish they had more rewards. Although, I think people would be more excited if they knew about the Mystic Forge weapons that—in some cases—looking nearly as flashy as Legendaries. Honestly, they almost have too much endgame—it can be hard to get a specific dungeon party!

Forgot about the Mystic Weapons. I’d still prefer a halfway point between Exotic gear and Legendary gear.

If you count the temple bosses in Orr, there are more than 3 world bosses.

We definitely need more armor skins, I was hoping that each Orrian temple had a different armor set. Also, chests need to drop mini pets/crafting materials/mounts (seriously)

They really should give them their own classification. They really are, for all intents and purposes, half way between exotic and legendary. They’re extremely difficult to get (the really cool ones at least) but very possible compared to Legendaries.

You should ease off the hyperbole in the subject line though. The mods aren’t going to respond well to that.

…like they ever do to any feedback that criticizes their game truthfully — with or without the hyperbole.

I’ve seen hundreds of criticism threads stick around without issue. So no, not like any like any feedback that’s truthful.

[Suggestion] More variations for PVE enemies across zones

in Suggestions

Posted by: Arius.7031

Arius.7031

The massive scale and detail of this game demands some sacrifices. They threw in multiple kinds into each zone, it’s more like:

1-15 area: Sons of Svanir, Icebrood, Jotun, Dredge, additional enemy (skritt, destroyers, steam enemies and so on).
15-25 area: Sons of Svanir, Icebrood, Jotun, Dredge, additional enemy (skritt, destroyers, steam enemies and so on).
level 25-40 area: Sons of Svanir, Icebrood, Jotun, Dredge, additional enemy (skritt, destroyers, steam enemies and so on).
Level 40+: Sons of Svanir, Icebrood, Jotun, Dredge, additional enemy (skritt, destroyers, steam enemies and so on).

And it repeats. There’s variety, not much, but it’s the trade for such a massive and detailed world.

But, if you think the Norn areas are bad, wait til Orr. It really is just undead (though there are many variations of undead).

Darkhaven says goodbye.

Focus on fixing bugs, even at sacrifice of content

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Arius.7031

Arius.7031

Yeah Lopez we get that and agree—it sucks (I’m from Darkhaven actually, luckily haven’t needed to do Arah). But, as already said, their teams are divided. A content creator does not necessarily have the skills that a bug fixer needs, it’s like using a wrench to tighten a screw—it’s the wrong thing for the job, it help with repairing in general, but it just isn’t made for that sort of thing.

They need to fix bugs faster—fine, but there is no prioritizing. It’s how all MMO’s work.

Out of 10, what would you rate this year's GW2 Halloween Event?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Arius.7031

Arius.7031

All of the people saying it was the best MMO holiday they have ever seen makes me wonder just how many MMOs with holidays they have seen…

For me, it was 8 or 9 out of 10; definitely fun, a decent variety of activities, but not the best holiday I’ve seen (although, one of the better Halloween ones).

I have played…

MAX level MMO’s:
12sky (m33)
12sky2 (m33 and g4)
Rappelz (150)
SW:ToR (2 50’s)
Diablo 3 (3 level 60s) (does that count as an MMO?)
Star Trek Online (2 Vice Admirals and 1 Lieutenant General)
Vindictus (1 70 and 2 60+)
LOA (nobody got max level, but I was as high as it got)
S.U.N. (70)

I might be forgetting a few. I’m ultra experienced with F2P/B2P MMO’s (WTB a life, /whisper me). Not trying to brag here, it’s not like have no life is something to brag about. What I’m saying is that I’m very experienced with MMO’s. I have not experienced a holiday event as good as this one. Now, I’ve not played Rift/WoW/Aion, so maybe those can top it.

A dungeon, a jumping puzzle, 2 new PvP game modes, a new PvE map, reskinned LA/the moon, ghost hunting, a new way to PvP, tons of new skins, minipets, etc… This was a very large holiday event. It’s the largest I’ve personally ever seen.

The single best holiday event I’ve experienced in an MMO. It did have bugs, and there were a couple issues with it. Overall, it was quite amazing.

Who else thinks the end game is lacking?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Arius.7031

Arius.7031

Plenty of endgame, just not enough reason to do that endgame.

WvW
SPvP
3 world bosses
2 80 zones
-Straight up mob farming
-Dynamic event farming
-Resource farming
25 explorable mode paths
Crafting
Many unique achievements, and repeatable achievements after that

There is plenty, and when I say plenty, I mean a lot of things to do at 80. Where more endgame than you’d get from virtually every other MMO. Problem is there’s no real reason to do most of it. 1-2 explore modes for the tokens, no real rewards for achievements/WvW, SPvP feels completely disconnected and feels like a waste and so on…

By making some content help player’s towards their goals (skins/money/achievement points, whatever) they make the players want to do this content for the rewards. But, a lot of the time, the player enjoys a different piece of content more—unfortunately, it simply doesn’t help him achieve this goal. It puts one in a state of mind where they’re torn—and it just makes them feel like doing absolutely nothing.

Like I’ve said many times over—all they need to do is make endgame more rewarding in general. Now, I’m not talking stat rewards—I’m talking ranks, things to sell, armor skins, those types of things. Make it so you feel like you’re getting stuff for doing these things. For me personally though, I really love this game, I hope they stay true to their overall design.

There is no prioritizing. They have two teams: one for developing new content, one for fixing bugs. This is because, someone who fixes bugs can’t necessarily make new content, and vice versa. They require different methods, and different skillsets. Making new content does not slow down bug fixing, and bug fixing doesn’t slow down making new content.

The End Game Debate

@ Arius – But what to do with the money if you have all the Legendary gears & equipments that you want?

Progression can’t be infinite. Getting Legendary should take you a very, very long time. If you’ve already gotten it, then you’ve already spent plenty of time on GW2. Time to either turn to getting all achievements/PvP gear, or take a break til the next content addition.

The End Game Debate

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Arius.7031

Arius.7031

Eh… I think we need to draw a distinction between endgame content, and reasons to do the endgame content.

Endgame Content:
- 25 Explorable mode dungeon paths.
Only reason to do this is for unique armor, making it so you only want to do certain dungeons. Dungeons need to be universally rewarding besides the tokens. That would just make them so much more fun.

- SPvP with it’s own separate progression system.
No real unique content to SPvP, most of it is from PvE and doesn’t carry over to PvE. This makes you feel like earning something in PvP is virtually worthless.

- 2 Max level zones that are both farmable.
This one is fine.

- 3 World bosses.
The rewards simply aren’t great. They should add 5 of a random 400 crafting material or something.

- Tons of unique achievements, and repeatable ones.
These are fine, though titles/custom emotes for certain achievement milestones would be better.

- WvW with it’s own currency system.
And nothing to do with that currency—not to mention what you can do with it is super costy. It takes forever to get the badges and there’s so little to do with them.

- Crafting
Doesn’t make you much money, costs loads of money.

Those are just my thoughts on the subject. I think the game has plenty of endgame, it just needs to reward you for more for participating in them with money and such.

It’s staying Kiria. The island (and the dungeon) will be opened permanently from the event. They don’t explicitly state this, but it’s implied and the alternative is not like (that they’d close something that’d make great end game).

@Tyr
Don’t worry, you didn’t sound jerkish. I was just mentioning I fail at finding stuff XD.

Anyhow, you said earlier you felt like you were missing something. I listened to the whole interview and here are a few things I found interesting:

- There will be a brand new “type of dungeon” that will be very large and offer new rewards “nobody has ever seen before”. This dungeon gets “perpetually harder” the farther you get into it. It has many levels. There are rewards deep into the dungeon.
- A beta version of a new PvP that will be added permanently if people like it.
- They’re working on ways to improve dungeon rewards.
- There will be a new island opened up, that’s fairly small with tons of “fun stuff” to do.
- There will be a weekend long (I think it was a week) event. It will have a storyline. It will have permanent changes on Tyria.
- They plan on trying to doing more holiday events, some bigger than Halloween and some perhaps even lasting months.

Those are the interesting parts I noticed.

@Ethersin
This is a tad hypocritical of you. Your group in particular has been called out for hacking in WvW before. Please, avoid trying to divide the server further. [HVN] has had bad apples, just as your guild has. Even if you guild hasn’t, you shouldn’t blame an entire group unless you can back it up.

[HVN] has been one of the most crucial parts to Dh’s success. We don’t need useless drama. So please, with all due respect (which is very little at this point), avoid trying to divide our server in a public forum where it’s not even really relevant. Report the hacker or just post the video—don’t go hating on [HVN] please. We don’t need this senseless drama.

Lets talk legendary

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

@Hellkaiser
I’m an amateur philosopher, so I can appreciate where you’re coming from. But, you used appeal to authority incorrectly. When someone is appealing to authority, they are using their (or someone else’s) status to make the argument for them. An example would be:

Man 1: I believe that Man 2 has no brain.
Man 2: What evidence do you have for this claim?
Man 1: I am a medical doctor.

OR

Man 1: I believe that Man 2 has no brain.
Man 2: What evidence do you have for this claim?
Man 1: I’m a scientist, and scientists are always right about everything.

Example 1 is not as bad, but is still wrong. Making one’s argument using one’s position or status is a bad thing to do. If your point is strong enough or correct, the point will stand regardless of your position. Example 2 is horrible, because not only can scientists be wrong (and very often are), being a scientist does not make you qualified on that specific subject.

In your example (the Appeal to Authority example), the person who says that is not appealing to authority. He’s not making an argument against the OP’s position—rather, he’s saying that the OP should not have typed up his position in the first place. It’s an important distinction, and we should not conflate the two.

His point isn’t based on the fact that an ANet employee said so, either. In the strictest sense, ANet has let us know multiple times that we should not re-post the same things over and over. Going by your source (which by the way, is not strictly correct, it’s more correct in a common usage way), the source (ANet) is qualified and trustworthy.

If information has been given by them, it is our responsibility to find it (or try) before posting. And so, the person’s post is not only correct, but is not appealing to authority in a negative way. But these things are contingent on the poster being correct—I don’t know if he is and I don’t really care.

As of late these things seem to be popping up all over the internet. I am, quite frankly, very tired of them being misused in the ways that they are (as that specific one was in your post). And as the posted above aptly pointed out, your post is in and of itself a red herring.

On topic

I do think Legendaries are a bit ridiculous at the moment. Now, I do think they need to be hard to get, but they should be a bit easier. But, they really need to make certain legendaries more worth getting (everything except the greatswords). On the topic of greatswords, they should make Sunrise white to oppose Twilight. Not only is it way cooler, it works just as well as the blueish/orange that is already in place.
