The problem is, we are only 10% of GW2: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/guild-wars-2-the-first-year/
As are mesmers, but they still get better treatment than us.
The grass is always greener. If you think Mesmer’s have gotten good treatment then they must come to your home and flog you while you play. We’re excited when we don’t get any patch notes.
Right…you want proof that Arena Net likes mesmers more than engineers?
Take a look at this…

And then this….

Also rumor is that Portal was originally supposed to be ours too.
I’d still like a developer response to this. Colin himself said they were aware of this issue months ago, and everything he said was a higher priority has already been added to the game. So what is his excuse now?

Wild star is looking better and better, and can’t really use the “ncsoft Asian grinder excuse” I see lobbed constantly on these forums. Same company.
NCSoft is the publisher, not the developer. That have little to due with the final form of either game.
Aside from legendaries there’s still multiple issues with build diversity and with dps, it still takes three times as long on my engi to kill anything as it does on any other class. They fix all the bugs they want until the rework the damage ratios in PVE it’s still a problem for alot of people.
One of my friends stopped playing entirely because the only class he likes in the engineer and he noticed the ratios change dramatically right around level 50 where it suddenly becomes a chore to kill anything.
The legendary thing isn’t the only problem with kits and their backpacks, the whole backpack thing is messed up. We shouldn’t have them save for the cosmetic ones we add ourselves, there should be no backpack option easily.
if it takes your engi 3 times as long to kill something as another class, you are doing something very wrong
Not really; engineers are very poorly balanced for damage roles.
Legendaries aren’t visible in kits.
No glow, no footfalls, no effects except grenade barrage if you’re specced 30 points in power with appropriate grenade trait.
Beyond that the mere existence of kits and our dependency on them means there really is no reason to go for any weapon skin of any quality at all. Ever. Not a legendary, not an exotic, nothing. And with “end game” being all about cosmetic rewards, we engineers have been stuck with basically no rewards for……a year.
Another day, another patch. This one being all about reworking legendary weapons and adding ascended ones. And yet, so many months after Colin said they were aware of the problem yet not focusing on cosmetic issues at all (BS), there has still been no fix for engineers.
Arena Net, I am officially disappointed. If you don’t care, just freaking say so already so we can all re-roll and move on.
They should make Celestial not suck though. I’m just not sure how to make it balanced.
Personally I find Celestial armor to be absolutely perfect….
…for kit engineers.
We do direct damage.
We crit for damage.
We crit for procs.
We do condition damage.
We bunker up and take some abuse.
We heal our allies.
And not only do we do all these things, do are constantly jumping around from one to the other during combat. Because of this Celestial gear is ideal. Yeah the direct damage might be outclassed by other prefixes, but with Celestial we know our conditions won’t be completely worthless. Likewise we know our conditions might take a few more stacks or a little longer to do their thing, but at least our heals won’t be completely useless. And yeah, we might now be able to take as much abuse as someone else, but at least we know we can get some regular crits off during the fight.
You must see the point. Celestial gear isn’t as good at any one thing as, well, any other random prefix you name. But the tradeoff is that it can do EVERYTHING fairly well. That might not mean much to a warrior, or a ranger, or a thief, or whatever else. But to an engineer (the only profession in the game that actually does dynamically change roles mid-combat) it means the world. That is why I am slowly but surely working toward 100% Celestial stats; I don’t specialize. I can’t specialize. I do everything and because of that I need armor with stats that let me do everything at least decently.
This, this is the primary reason to get celestials, when mf is removed there is no reason at all to use them besides poor knowledge, curiosity, having fun or any other subjective feeling.
Based on performance its just stupid to use them.
Okay, then riddle me this; if Celestial is so much worse than other gear types, why did you get it in the first place? Couldn’t you just mix and match the other three prefixes to get better jack-of-all-trades stats and the exact same magic find? Only a lot cheaper, easier, and faster?
Considering that many people crafted that armor especially for magic find, it is all but minimal.
Also, if they didn’t want to cause issues, they should have avoided to put it to armors and weapons to begin with if they already knew they would remove it with no compensation. And considering they were introduced quite recently, they should have known – and acted otherwise.
Obviously this also means people wouldn’t have used up resources to get the recipes and to craft them and wouldn’t have consumed transmutation crystals to skin them…
Many people doing something stupid isn’t Arena Net’s problem. Literally every other magic find armor set is better than celestial. That is a fact.
You want direct damage, Explorer’s is better.
You want conditions, Traveler’s is better.
You want defense, Wayfarer’s is better.
The only advantage Celestial gear has is that is buffs all stats, and maybe you want that, fair point. But I find myself wondering why a balanced stat build is suddenly desirable for farming when 99% of the time people just run ‘zerker anyway. Heck, given that ‘zerker is the go-to gear for just about everything I would say Explorer’s gear should be the number one choice for magic find.
The point of Celestial gear was being a jack-of-all-trades, NOT magic find. This is clearly evidenced by the fact that Celestial gear was added AFTER Arena Net started talking about how they were going to remove magic find from armor. And after losing magic find Celestial is still fantastic jack-of-all-trades armor. You, and all those others, who crafted Celestial for magic find did something dumb. And it isn’t Arena Net’s job to refund you to make up for your mistake.
…
…
…
On a side note; I have a full set of Celestial armor, a few Ascended “Celestial” trinkets, and plan to start crafting my Ascended Celestial weapons as soon as the patch hits tomorrow. So don’t think I am on the outside of this issue. I just understood from the beginning what Celestial armor was and what it was for. And magic find isn’t the point. Never was.
What percentage of these people stand in LA doing nothing is what i would like to know
Why are you even still here? Honestly. If you hate the game so much and want it to fail so bad why don’t you just leave? All you’re doing here is making yourself look like a jerk.
Obviously it is a cone-AOE that causes fear and torment.
I think that if it is a problem only engineers suffer from, we can all be assured that Arena Net won’t fix it and probably doesn’t know or care that it exists.
Ahem…
The Weaponsmith, Artificer, and Huntsman crafting disciplines have
a new skill cap of 500. We’re introducing new recipes and new materials to be found around the world! Craft your way to 500 to become a Grandmaster Crafter and to learn the secrets of crafting Ascended weapons!
Okay, so then….
Legendary weapons are getting a stat boost and an Offensive Infusion slot to align with the new Ascended weapons!
Okay…so what about sigils? What if like having some kind of on-crit effect instead of a direct stat boost? Or maybe a kill-stacking on? Or extending a condition duration? Just a sigil in general? Can ascended weapons have both? Or are you completely disregarding that upgrade mechanic and thereby invalidating pretty much every single weapon based build in the game?
I know that, for example, my thief is 100% dependent on sigils of purity for condition removal. Am I now just completely out of luck, screwed over, and having to go right back to square-one with that profession now?
Well the mods were quick to sweep this one out of the public eye. God forbid a developer actually see it…
Sometime ago I created thread expressing a….concern that myself and other engineer players were having with the way our class and our dependency on kits clashes with the game’s concept of Legendary Weapons. Some of you may remember this, but for those who do not I will post a link below so you can catch up.
We all on the same page? Good.
As of four months ago Colin Johanson claimed that Arena Net was aware of this problem, but was not currently ready to address it as their engineering team was focused more on other issues. I’ll provide a quote.
It’s something we’re absolutely aware of and want to address in the future, one of my main characters is an engineer so I feel ya on this one. My poor quaggan backpack is visible like 2% of the time I play as I kit swap, never mind my weapon skins.
We’re currently focusing our engineering (programmers, not guys with net guns) resources that could work on solutions to issues like kits/skins on major systems that address issues higher priority and wider reaching like lag in large battles, LFG, custom arenas, spectator mode and so on but this issue is absolutely on our radar.
As always, please post your ideas of what you’d like to see solution wise, we love to see the fun ideas y’all come up with too!
Now as of the September third update Legendary Weapons will be getting another pass. However this isn’t just a graphical or cosmetic upgrade, the addition of player alterable stats means that a significant measure of engineering time and resources was put toward this update, an update clearly intended to make Legendary Weapons more valuable, desirable, and enjoyable to all past, present, and future owners. Except, based on the short description on the release preview, to engineers.
Arena Net, if the September third update does not at least address the engineer kit issue you will have failed at your apparent goal, and I for one will be very disappointed. How long must we wait for you to correct an oversight that never should have made it into the live release in the first place?
Official response? To an engineer issue?
/laughs
You’re new here aren’t you?
Anet needs to stop the boasting campaign, they’re coming off very arrogant.
Fame is when others talk about you, not when you contantly shove your numbers in everyone’s face.Being humble is the first requirement of success, because the moment you sit back and think you’re the best, someone else who is putting effort in actually being so will pass you.
It’s like one of those guys who constantly remind you how much successful they are, nobody likes them.
An ironic statement given the sheer number of people bashing Arena Net daily for not releasing more facts and figures about how well they are doing.
If they don’t release the numbers they are trying to hide their failure.
If they do release the numbers they are being arrogant and trying to hype the game.
That isn’t fair of us; why should we force Arena Net to gamble their reputation on a lose/lose choice?
After making the freaking gloves able to hide, i am not surprised by any of the priorities ANet seems to have.
You’re serious? When did they do that? And who wanted that? My god that seems like a waste of…well, everything. Time, money, effort, brain-cells….
So how about we not let this die just because we got one half-hearted dev response?
you make a nice point about the mail part. like, why is chain not an armor type? could’ve been a go-between for plate and leather
Because chain is a skin for heavy armor.
Doesn’t change the fact that HoM weapons are already finding their way into the rest of the game.
Can you back that up with an example?
That is not a HOM skin. Do you have a REAL example?
Bro, read that page, the notes. That is a NEW skin just added you get from champs. IT IS THE SAME MODEL AS THE EXCLUSIVE HOM FELLBLADE.
Everyone with HoM realized this as soon as anet made the blog post about new champ loot. This skin was featured on the blog post and everyone cried foul. So sad.
It uses the same model, it is NOT the same skin. Apples and oranges. Try again.
Recolors count. Or is my Aetherblade coat somehow a different skin from what it was last week because I changed some dyes around?
Personally I am against giving this skin to new players in general, regardless of what edition of the game they are buying. Seriously what happened to them being “exclusive” to Guild Wars veterans? Its bad enough that some of our weapon skins are now champion loot (and upgraded to look cooler, no less), but now they are giving away our armor too. Not cool.
Hey Arena Net; I’ve spent money in your gem store, so how about you upgrade my Hall of Monuments to fifty points? After all player loyalty clearly isn’t a factor in this any more.
You should read the previous posts. It’s the gem store skins that has been in there for ages. It’s not the HoM stuff.

I just want to remind folks again, the features and content you’d traditionally find in an expansion will absolutely be added to Gw2. The thing we haven’t decided is what form the release of that content would be presented in, be it a traditional expansion, living world, or some other form.
How about starting an official poll here on the forums? That way you can get a clear picture of what at least this section of the community wants. The way I see it looking at a single page and see “X% want an expansion” has to be easier than trying to figure it out based on all the rather…schizophrenic threats and posts on the subject. Or, if you don’t mind breaking the forth-wall a little bit, have active players vote in-game using the same system as you did for the recent Cutthroat Politics event.
Progress is progress. It is a good sign, even though I don’t expect much more here.
An actual response? You mean we’re not just being flat out ignored?
Pardon me, I need a moment….
You consider race changes, that could actually change your build depending on racial skills, as crap, but you complain about legendaries, which are just skins and nothing else, and tells us that pure cosmetics ruined the game for you…
I think it’s time you might move to a new game where you can explore a new world.
I never said race changing was crap, I said it was never going to happen. The choice of race has too much impact on too many aspects of the game, and is too much a fundamental of the core design to be changed now. But a simple cosmetic oversight like this….if Arena Net actually cared this could be knocked out in a single Living Story patch. Less than two weeks effort by the team. Just whip up two are three new skins and spend a few hours hammering out the code. Ship it off to testing while you work on re-skinning the content and rewriting the same quest text that you use and reuse for every Living Story update.

You’re new here aren’t you? Not to sound rude, but this has been discussed to death. You are not even beating a dead horse; you’re beating the patch of hammered-flat dirt where the long since rotted to nothing dead horse used to be.
Also it has been confirmed that Arena Net is working on giving every profession access to every weapon. So there is that.
What…Where was this confirmed? ;O
That sounds horrible.
Personally I’m looking forward to it.

A lot (most) people are going to instantly disagree with me here, but I actually recommend the flamethrower. Its base damage isn’t particularly impressive, true, but it is a native AOE so that can be forgiven. It simply isn’t a spike damage weapon (-gasp- You mean there is a way to do damage that isn’t based on just hitting like a truck and moving on? Sacrilege!), instead it is better suited to keeping pressure on groups and with high crit chance is pretty much the best weapon in the game (in my experience) for triggering on crit procs.
I suggest taking Precise Sights near constant stacks of vulnerability on multiple foes, and Juggernaut for a completely free stack of might (averages about seven stacks, but can be easily pushed higher with other traits, skills, runes, and sigils. I typically run with fifteen to twenty stacks in combat, and can hit the max twenty five stacks easily enough against tough bosses). I prefer to run with Superior Sigil of Strength to get some extra might on crits, but you could also take Superior Sigil of Frailty for more vulnerability instead.
For those that love GW2, continue to love it and play it. It’s just not the game for husband/wife combos I guess.
I’ve been playing since beta with my fiancée and we haven’t had any problems. You just need to realize that here teamwork is more organic and realistic, rather than being the overt and forced mini-games you find in trinity based MMOs. She and I work as a team by setting up and exploiting combo fields, buffing and curing conditions on one another, using pulls, knock downs, and knock backs to position enemies and protect each other, and juggling aggro so neither of us gets overwhelmed. The game isn’t solo based, it only appears to be so if you’re, ironically, too immersed in shallow trinity based combat.
Maybe it is just me, but having played every traditional trinity role I never found my party to be a “team.” Yeah we were allegedly working together, but really we were just using each other to get rewards. They weren’t allies; they were tools. And as the original Guild Wars proved with its hero mechanic, in a trinity based system you can get by just fine with a handful of bots. You never actually needed other players at all. You just needed someone spamming heals and holding aggro, and a rudimentary AI could handle that just fine, and in some cases better, than a real person (AI controlled mesmers were far, far, far better at interrupting enemies than human players).
Here in GW2 you actually need someone who can think and react to changing combat situation and dynamically change both their tactics and overall philosophy on the fly. The simple “use healing skill X whenever my health drops below Y%” and “use taunt A if enemy B targets another party member” is not real teamwork. It is exploiting a bot, and frankly I respect my fiancée too much to demand she limit herself to a role that a cellphone could fill.
Thank you for all your replies. We are both pleasantly surprised at the helpfulness of the community.
Just to be clear, what we’re hearing is:
> Armor is meaningless
> Vitality and toughness are there to give you time to get behind the mob
> Raise the power, percision and conditional damage skills by all means
> Use external tools to determine combos between different classes
> Use your stay on the run as much as possible (Rogue / The Secret World)
> Stay out of the way of red areas (The Secret World), but stay behind the mob as much as possible
> Use abilities to keep you from getting knocked down, punted, etc. There is no passive skills that help in that area. (e.g. armor, toughness, vitality)Do I have the correct?
Edit: Yes, we both understand about the down leveling, but one would think that the armor, weapons, passives and ability that were gained during the 15 levels previous would give a distinct advantage.
One other thing; healing basically IS a self only thing. While it is true that most profession can heal others, the amount of healing output is intentionally low, making ally healing more of secondary thing. There is no “healer” role in Guild Wars 2 at all. What we have in its place is the support, and that would be the guardian. Support is more based around buffing and damage negation through shields and other block/evade skills, not direct healing. Ultimately you have to be responsible for your own health bar, because if you’re relying on someone else to heal you you’re going to die every single fight.
P.S.
Read this.

I’m not even asking for them to be fixed quickly, or prioritized, I just want the staff to acknowledge that the bugs exist. I have no idea why this is so apparently unreasonable.
Something I’ve said a million times in my life, and always found to be true; you can’t make people do their jobs.
Its hard to tell what color dye Logan uses on account of his running away.
The thief gets way, way, way more positive communication and work done than the engineer, so please don’t derail my thread.
That’s bullkitten. If anything we are in the same boat because you can’t have anything less than ZERO COMMUNICATION.
Communication or not at least they try to fix and balance your class. Our turrets have been bugged since beta.
No, it isn’t. Don’t presume to speak for the whole community.
Asking the community a question is not not “presuming to speak for the community.” And as far as nothing being resolved, see my above post. Or go take a look at the sixteen thread in the bug forum about engineer turrets. Or about the kit/back item clipping issue that has existed since the first beta and hasn’t even been mentioned, let alone worked on.
When you say that this is what the “community wants,” you make the presumption to speak on behalf of the community. You don’t know what the community wants. This is what you want. So, yes, you are attempting to speak for the community, which is why you are receiving negative responses.
I never said I knew what the community wants. I said it was a discussion about what the community wants. Do you not know what discussion means? It means a mutual exchange of different ideas from multiple parties.
Just look at the kitten update notes.
Just look at the number of profession bugs for the engineer and ranger that have existed since beta.
There is no excuse for that.
And these would be? I don’t play engineer, but I do play Ranger. Nothing is glaringly terrible to me. Please give me a list of things that have been broken since beta. I’m sure more than a few have been at least looked at and tweaked.
This guy does a better job with the turret issue than I ever could. But these are hardly the only problems. But like all of them, they have been completely ignored for a very long time.
No, it isn’t. Don’t presume to speak for the whole community.

Pretty sure the team that works on the living story isn’t the same one knocking out bugs
If that is indeed the case then it seems they just don’t have a team knocking out bugs.
Just as the title says; would you, as a player, prefer Arena Net to keep releasing buggy Living Story updates every few weeks, or to take a short break to address some of the long standing issues with the game? And by that I don’t mean adding new features people demand, but rather fixing things like balance issues, lag, and some of the many, many bugs that have plagued the game and certain professions (my poor engineer) literally since beta. Once again I’ll pull out my Simpsons clip to illustrate the “dig up, stupid” philosophy I believe Arena Net suffers from.
Put simply I believe that Arena Net has dug themselves into a metaphorical hole by releasing so much buggy and broken content, in hopes of driving up hype for the game and getting more box sales no doubt. And now instead of fixing these problems, they keep trying to get out of it by releasing more buggy and broken content. In essence they are digging themselves in deeper by trying to “dig up” to get out of the hole.
(edited by Moderator)
-snip-
Honestly I don’t think engineers will be accepted into groups until Arena Net pulls their collective heads out of Nexon’s kitten and actually addresses a few of those turret bugs instead of pumping out an endless stream of RNG skins. That said, the legendary cosmetic thing still bugs me, and is certainly a barrier to motivating a lot of people to play the engineer. It is already one of the least played profession, and instead of seeing that and thinking they should do something about it Arena Net instead seems to take it as a license to ignore the profession.
Recently I’ve gotten to lvl 80 with my engineer and the number of bugs I’ve seen… kitten , if I could squish them, I’d level up many hours faster!
At this point I’d settle for Arena Net just acknowledging that these bugs exist.
The thief gets way, way, way more positive communication and work done than the engineer, so please don’t derail my thread.
cleansing formula 409 gives 6 removal skills if you run 2 elixirs + heal elixir.
This is how I roll. But if I’m particularly worried for any given content I also slip a Superior Sigil of Generosity/Purity in my weapon. I’ve an over 40% crit chance, so those good for removing/transferring an extra condition every now and again.
I think we casn all agree that engineers need improvements. But I also think that we are far from being ignored. One of the OP’s gripes is that all these posts get no response. Sp I point out they do and have responded. But it is unreasonable to expect them to keep responding according to the whim of every player who makes a post. And for them to even try to do it would be counter productive and would make us even unhappier because it would mean they are able to work on less issues.
Fair point, actions speak louder than words anyway. Of course engineers suffering today from the exact same bugs we were reporting IN BETA feels a lot like inaction. And inaction says something too.
Recently fifteen (FIFTEEN) threads have been made in the bug sub-forum about issues relating to engineer turrets. Not only have these threads gotten no response, but some of the issues outlined have existed for month, even going back to release. However a single thread created at the same time about a minor guardian exploit got an instantaneous developer response and assurance of a fix being swiftly on the way.
Arena Net, if you’re not ignoring engineers then you really need to do or something to prove that. Tossing us a bone with the recent class overhaul patch is not enough when a good third of our utility skills are, and always have been, non-functional. Stop treating us like dirt.
That is not a suggestion; it is a demand. And if saying that is justification for some mod to delete this thread, just know now that I’ll simply make a new one. Those who know me here can attest to just how stubborn I am when it comes to getting developer attention.
I just wanted to throw this out here, you also get the basic transmutation stones from daily achievements (easy to get if you just play the game normally; no grinding or going out of your way required) and sometimes from personal story missions. I rarely ever bothered with map completion until my wife started dragging me along while she worked on her legendary, and I still had way more stones than I had anything to do with. Seriously I could toss you about a hundred of them if they weren’t account bound; the things appear like candy on Halloween.
