Since April I stopped recommending this game to anyone. Unless you’d like a ‘press-a-button-to-win’ open world mindset, then by all means, enjoy it.
(edited by Asmodeus.5782)
Event objectives are irrelevant. A great majority events, with exception of a few new ones in Dry Top, can’t be failed. Unless the zerg decides to fail them on purpose, ofc. Farming is not a problem, it just happens to be the last thing you have to actively do in open world.

An average Risen on a Cursed Shore temple event lives for a whole second. Max two. You do have to race to tag it before the crowd smashes it into a cloud of rotten particles. That’s why the staff Guardians are so popular. You just repeatedly press 1 for 10 minutes and then proceed to opening bags. Brainless dps spamming is the only proper way to play in a megaserver zerg. Doing anything else, except casting an occasional sigil, to tag a distant group, is detrimental to looting.
The mobs are not able to harm a single player out of the mass. They don’t have enough time to even use a single attack.
And Synesh does not HAVE to make the game soloable. It always was. It’s nice to do things with people, granted. With a zerg, not so much.
I used to login at night just to do the Fire Elemental in a group of 3 to 5 random people. I’ve met a lot of great folks there, we still talk sometimes. Today it’s a shapeless mass of nameplates and the elemental dies in about 20 seconds, I think.
So, you do not believe that an event should include a possibility of losing? That’s… really, really sad.

Eh, I actually like having death zones in the game in which everything that used to be difficult in the open world has been smothered under huge zergs of megaserver drones.
Cursed Shore, Harrowed Sea, a skill point and a point of interest clustered together.
Well, I’ve been asking for proper scaling when I gave up on fighting the megaserver itself, but it seems unlikely Anet would take time to rework all the events to make them playable again. Grenth was fun for some time, the entire swarm could die there, if not coordinated well enough, but it bugged out and now is impossible to fail like everything else.
I’d love a simple tick box.
Do you like zergs? Y/N
People under N would go to half-population maps. If there’s really so few of us, the strain on the servers won’t be very noticeable, will it?
(edited by Asmodeus.5782)
Well, the megaserver may have indeed solved many gripes of players. Even if almost all events in the game can be soloed or finished in a group of 5, in the most extreme cases.
But the map caps have been set wrong. On Cursed Shore we have to literally strive to hit a trash mob once! We scuttle from spawn to spawn, fighting each other for loot! These population levels basically destroyed what was so great about the GW2 loot system!
Allelya, so for you the idea of a good game is something you are not able to fail? The fun is to passively watch growing numbers? Really? Race for loot, who tags first, is good enough as a challenge? Besides, look at the clusterkitten of people on the screen I provided. This is ‘moderately’ for you?
Maybe if you like games that do not challenge you at all, the selection of Zynga products is for you.

Oh I am sure they removed the cow feed because it was an easy source of a speed buff for some players in that area. Example I would use it for a quick run to the bandit cave when I did farm keys. I’m pretty much sure a lot of these changes were done to slow down key farming/gold generating/transmute charges farming like another above said. Not that I am against that at all, I think it is a wise move on their part.
Nope, not buying it. It was just slashed like all the other bundles, for example cannonballs and mines in Plains of Ashford. Or water buckets, now we have to pat the fire gently until it goes out.
Well, the flavor IS being removed. The Inquest shark in Metrica is gone (the whole lake has been sterilized), because it was an early case of underwater combat. The bunnies in Wayfarer’s are not even aggresive anymore, because it was kinda difficult for a newbie. All the starter areas are much more bland and boring now. My biggest gripe about the NPE, I really don’t care about the gating, got plenty of scrolls and books…
Food is a flabbergasting concept, mate. Certainly not for everyone. Besides, it’s directly connected to defecation and that’s just dirty.
Bumping to ask if we can still hope for the closing time extension…
Cursed Shore, north of the Grenth Isle, West of the Meddler’s Waypoint, something like that. Next to a skill point.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Adam good night, sweet prince ;D
After the introduction of the Foxfire Clusters we need a huge Elder Wood sink. And there it is. ;D
They do have shadowstep and the shortbow blink…
The only mount for a Charr would be a warbike / tank. And as for the speed buff suggestion – it would render quite a few existing utilities/traits rather useless or would turn some into Barry Allens.
Exactly on the other side of Diessa is the other one which is a major pain now. The first separatist heart, with mines. Which cannot be picked up now. ;D
The above is true for a multitude of items around the world. Including mines in the first separatist heart on Diessa. Do you know how long it takes now to complete the thing?
Is the PG rating for this game going to be lowered soon? -_-
Be careful what you wish for, eyestrain, for the catacombs might get nerfed once again. Right now the right amount of 80lvl players for this dungeon is 3. 2 will do too, most likely.
Trouble is, many of us existing players actually like complexity.
Bingo.
Summary of the 2014 map changes:
1 small zone added
5 large zones crippled.

Bunnies in Wayfarers are still there, they’ve just been moved downhill. Not disagreeing with you, just informing you so you know.
That’s why I wrote ‘usual’. They are completely timid now, maybe one tried to assault me when I was completing the heart. Their AI has been almost completely neutered. Those poor, hated, beloved beasts might as well not be there at all.
One of the most iconic events of the Wayfarer’s, praised by Angry Joe as the best thing he ever found in an MMORPG has been turned into a “player friendly experience”. The saddest thing about the starting zones changes so far. Even worse than the skritt in Plains of Ashford, cows in Queensdale… Maybe about as sad as the Maguuma shark.
Right, I’ll throw my question in…
Is there even a point in discussing returning some old functionality and content to hearts and events? Bundles, the usual bunnies in Wayfarers, the Inquest shark in Metrica, the golem suit in the very same Metrica, putting out fire with water, picking up mines in Plains of Ashford, feeding cows, rooting grubs out with rakes in Caledon, countless others?
I just completely fail to imagine how such a bland leveling experience, consisting solely of combat and pressing F can be used to attract more players than the old system, I really do.
I find it sad that most of you focus solely on the problems with gating, completely omitting the content removal/simplification issue. I guess my priorities are kinda skewed.
Most likely they took away the feed (although the bags are still all over the place) because folks used them as speed boosts.
What? You seriously consider it a good reason to destroy content? I mean… Who cares? :/
Eh, some rage and hyperbole is justified, I think… When I found out that the Metrica Inquest/shark event chain has been removed, I was dumbfounded. This was THE hook for new players in this place. A sudden shark in their faces. Not even that dangerous, to be honest, but flashy, something taken straight out of James Bond movies. The evil scientists and their pet monster…
What is left instead? Instead of feeding cows, running around with water, turning into a repair golem? Some generic combat without most conditions and pressing F for 10-15 levels. I mean… How does that even compare?
(edited by Asmodeus.5782)
braindead
Got suspended for using this word right after the patch. ;D
Yeah, simplification of so many early hearts and events made the starter zones really bland…
How come I haven’t been rickrolled? :>
Yeeeah, I’m with Wade on that:
Right after the patch I’ve been suspended for 3 days when I commented upon this new target audience. So have many other players, I suppose, resulting in a somewhat smaller outrage. So I shall withhold my opinion on the matter.
Panic? I heard those poor kittens spontaneously imploded!
Vayne, and how can be removal of any semi-advanced mechanics from the starter zones made more palatable? If I was to dance with cows, rub corn and fight creatures without any kind of conditions and “confusing” attacks for my whole noobhood, I’d probably throw the piece of digital crap away. Or just “play with myself”, because it takes about the same amount of intelligence and coordination, just gives more pleasure. I’m simply too disgusted to enter starter zones right now.
BTW, with the megaserver crowds there IS a neverending competition to tag and kill in all the more popular events.
(edited by Asmodeus.5782)
Well, it’s consistent with removing all bundles and more complex mechanics from hearts and events, replacing them with repeatedly pressing F. And with removing any and all will to fight from the Wayfarer bunnies.
Apparently boring is the new interesting.
Eh. I guess the change of the kicking system to a majority of votes has not been implemented as we hoped and asked to? The thing is really needed if we are to avoid such kittenry.
(edited by Asmodeus.5782)
Yup, nice to have a wee steam hulk keeping me company. Quite often, however, it leaves its slot on its own accord. Still a bit bugged, I guess.
Removing content is the new adding content, yo.
This is interesting, because I’ve seen you ingame before, and you were in the ANet guild.
Now this is interesting indeed. :>
It was decent content. Wasting my whole squad in that artillery bombardment was one of the most memorable moments in the story. Actually THE ONLY FRIGGIN’ MOMENT I CARED ABOUT AFTER MY MENTOR DIED.
Hah… Good news, at least. I must’ve summoned the change by destroying all of mine after a year of waiting.
Right. Convenient for them not to inform people about deliberately destroying content. Think after you read.
There’s nothing in the patch notes about the removed content. The large amounts of removed content. Convenient.
Golem chess disabled. Feeding cows disabled. Putting out fire with water (!) removed. Bunnies in the bunny heart stuffed with codeine, essentially removing the quest which Angry Joe praised the most. Picking up ghost weapons on Plains of Ashford? Forget it.
The ‘why’ extends beyond the chess, seriously.
Let me get this straight, does this vote on leveling include the fact that the starter zones have been gutted with most of their heart/events mechanics removed?
Well, this is a world boss “experience” from my megaserver overflow IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT (4:19 in the morning to be precise, check the clock). You can hardly call that a ‘fight’. On Piken (a high pop server) it used to be groups of 30 people max. At night you could kill the guy just with your party of 5.
(edited by Asmodeus.5782)
Not
Possible!
Eject!
This is yet another chunk of fine content that disappeared. Luckily, this one is just a bug.
Vayne, you’re genuinely okay with them simply removing valuable, enjoyable content from the game. Without warning and explanation. You’re weak, mate. Besides, for the 20 people you mentioned, there is one who thinks otherwise. Guess who.
They are there. Sort of. They attack you maybe once during the whole heart. I finished it all without a single dodge.
Besides, Bjarni and Linnea have been separated. Which is also sad.
