No, seriously, all the people I’ve played with during the last 2 years loved the downscaling system. Most of them left since the low-zones turned into a zynga game.
William S. Burroughs
You people have no idea what dumbed downed means or how to apply it. This update increases your actual choices. Less is more with MMO talents. Having a lot of talents just makes it a nightmare to balance, and most of it is false choice anyway. Now ArenaNet can balance each talent directly with only 2 others, rather than dozens of talents at once. If anything this change will increase the diversity of builds since you don’t have so many horrible traits.
This thread is hilariously ironic.
Except for people who don’t give a kitten about their effectiveness and level of power and just wanted to have some fun, trying out a lot of different stuff.
Happily uninstalled. Finally. After 2 friggin’ years. Free.

Meh. I can no longer play my condi/bunker ele with any kind of useful mobility boost, my condi necro is effectively dead in PvE, I am forced to take some borderline useless traits on my turret/rifle zerker and condi/rampager engis… I guess that’s it, no will to play anymore. I’m actually too tired with the game to tinker with it anymore. It was an awesome run, tho. My 300 steam games, here I come, your long wait is over…
William S. Burroughs
I miss my dagger movement. I miss it a lot.
William S. Burroughs
So, general PvE will get even easier now.
Incredible.

Nothing in the last year of development makes me believe that even 40$ would be a fair price for an expansion to this game. Ever since the megaserver I’ve been logging on to do my dailies and that’s it, hoping for some kind of change. And here it is, for a price greater than the original game itself. Wow.
Originally the base game cost $60 on release, and it’s $50 making it cheaper than the base game at release.
Also as someone who doesn’t have much of an income, I don’t see how the expac isn’t worth it, as my usual policy with games is to get about an hour of playtime per dollar. And so far i have over 2,000 hours on the base game and the expac is gonna add plenty more, well over 50 hours which IMO makes it pretty worth it.
K, with a single, measly character slot, make it ‘equal’.

Just like they have removed TA forward up path, because they didn’t want to admit it was their “fix” that bugged it and made it a path almost noone played.
I’m actually really glad I’ve managed to run the path. The best 2 hours spent dying on a bugged boss ever.
William S. Burroughs
My guess is that there is a severe population drop due to the content drought and any sale wouldn’t be nearly as profitable right now. Maybe after the LA patch.
William S. Burroughs
Well, now they should also add some way to quickly change the ascended stats, or it’s bye bye to any kind of build flexibility.

He/she wants to be able to classify any item as ‘junk’ permanently, making it easier to vendor sell.

A whole friggin lot. Enough for sets of tools for 8 characters, a bunch of bag slots for them, quite a few visual trinkets, some RNG keys, many, many more. Plus a similar treatment for my gf. And then they introduced the megaserver and tuned the difficulty down to the ‘dumb monkey with no hands’ level. Eh, do I regret this.

Is somebody complaining about the last remotely interesting non-megazerg world boss in the game?
K, just checking.
William S. Burroughs
(edited by Asmodeus.5782)
Well. About the pirate thing… It looks like there won’t be anything even remotely pirate-related about this new LA. The concept art shows us some kind of marble pyramids / royal gardens… I do not like the new style at all, from what I’m seeing right now. I’d love some of the soul of the old city to be preserved. Shinier does not mean better.
William S. Burroughs
Yup. Beacon Point. Did not sound pretentious af. ;D
William S. Burroughs
The removed or simplified content was not even the worst of the changes. The across-the-board nerf of everything below the 80th level turned this game into a sad parody of itself. Sure, let’s turn lvl 15 vets into trash mobs and trash mobs into… kitten , I don’t think we even have word for what those poor kittens are now.
William S. Burroughs
I do hope that together with the trait changes we will see reversal to the old difficulty level. I really do not want to be able to solo Kholer with such ease…
William S. Burroughs
It was one of the saddest changes that came with the godawful NPE.
Another one was the utter nerf of the angry hungry bunnies.
And the overall lowering of the lowbie zones’/most dungeons’ difficulty.

Also try Hunter. Great for hunting them pesky Dredge.
William S. Burroughs
Oh no. Someone’s offended. Stop the friggin’ presses.
William S. Burroughs
Im again log off sad and waiting for hot… anet again you made fail…
Please don’t come back for HoT. I don’t care if that is harsh, but if you have zero sense of humor, can not for one day have fun, then you just are not needed.
Reposted for truth.

Really? The population in Orr has declined?
Amazing. Maybe I’ll actually be able to return there and won’t have to compete for every poor zombie that dares to stick out its head among the hordes of mad looters.
The whole game is overcrowded. The megaserver populations are heavily imbalanced. The scaling does not remedy the situation in any noticeable way. Everything is shamefully easy and impossible to lose. We actually need fewer players on each map to make things interesting again.

Because most tactics -> stand together in a corner and push a button.
…unless you actually want to try something more fun and challenging. I like doing dungeons with underleveled/not fully geared people. Who never even heard of stacking…
William S. Burroughs
Actually, as a >15k dungeon master (TA forward/up included), I also behave like a noob in dungeons. If by not being a noob you mean stacking and rushing.

My only question – what is the NPE folks keep mentioning?
you are new, you are better off not knowing about npe
LOL. OK. I guess what I don’t know won’t hurt me. But my overall point is that I have found levelling enjoyable and pleasant, and very non-grindy (the only aspect I tried that I didn’t like was crafting).
If it was even better before something (NPE?) then I am jealous.
I think there are a lot of new folk like me who came in with the $10 special.
It was better before NPE. It was better before the megaserver, for high population servers, anyway. It was better before every critter under 80 has been nerfed because of the trait changes.
Google “new player experience gw2”, because I’m too bitter to get into this topic. One example, beforehand you didn’t dance for the cows in Queensdale. You fed them. However, your brain could not stand the strain of picking up the bundle and giving it to the cow. Therefore now you dance for them. Because kitten logic and everything you love.

Nothing in this game needs another nerf. Everything has been nerfed to the kitten ed ground. Everything is being made embarassinly easy. I can solo Kholer, easily. Most events in the world do not even enter the ‘failed’ state anymore. Stop asking to remove the last bastions of challenge from this poor, kitten d, devastated game.
William S. Burroughs
I dare you, i double dare you to defeat them alone. They are created to encourage team play…otherwise what’s the point.
Sure maybe with a ranger or mesmer from a safe distance and in like 30 minutes…sure…but that’s no fun
Wow, man. Defeating champs solo both in melee and ranged is one of the most fun things to do in this game. Very hard to find one alone after the April megakittenup, but still worth searching for.
Killing the Fire Ele solo… It wasn’t very hard with some proper health regen, but still pretty intense.

World bosses, yea it’s a zerg fest…i mean there are 100+ ppl at one boss, what strategy will you use? each take a turn at hitting him, maybe take some numbers? go mano a mano with the boss? Also isn’t this what it’s in every game? at least the countless that i’ve played.
There shouldn’t be 100+ people on those bosses, simple as that. Before megasever, it used to be anything from 1 to 40 on high pop servers, depending on the time of the day. And it was fun.
William S. Burroughs
Yeah. Removal of the repair costs, the worldwide low level nerf which made it overly easy to solo Kholer in Catacombs (THE FRIGGIN, ALWAYS-SKIPPED KHOLER), burying the bosses under the megaserver masses, heck, burying every single event in the game and making it an autowin click-a-thon, more or less! For me the possibility of losing is an indispensible element of any game. And it has been removed from most of the GW2 open world content. Because losing is confusing, I guess.
Before April GW2 was pretty much the best MMORPG I’ve ever played and I’ve been playing those since the early years of Ultima Online. Now it’s just an addiction to logging in for 10 minutes and doing the dailies. EQN will replace this, I hope.
William S. Burroughs
(edited by Asmodeus.5782)
I loved logging in in the middle of a night just to solo the Elemental on my high pop server. Doing the Claw with like 10 people was also mighty fun, lots of blood, suffering and sometimes even armor repair costs (!)…
William S. Burroughs
You know what… For Fire Ele and Jungle Wurm more HP would actually make them somewhat more interesting. Right now their damage output does not matter, as they do not have time to show it. We do not even know what kind of damage the fire ele could deal if it lived over 10 seconds.
Frozen Maw shaman on the other hand? A lot of hp, but absolutely no defense against the zerg.
William S. Burroughs
I mean… The husks at Wurm do not even have the time to reach the poor beast before it pops. The mechanics is essentially dead.
This is not a good advertisement for the game. Those “bosses” are just huge piles of disappointment for many new players.
William S. Burroughs
(edited by Asmodeus.5782)
Eh. Does the casual crowd need the Fire Elemental to be a <10 seconds pinata with a 10 minute auto-win pre-event?
William S. Burroughs
let’s just break their walls and make a huge barbecue!
May I suggest sylvari as firewood?

Let’s start piling up white bread under that wall of theirs. That’s how you kill pigeons.
William S. Burroughs
Now if largos became a playable race on the other hand..
Hordes of mysterious, reclusive underwater assassins zerging around and spamming LFP. Yeah… ;D
William S. Burroughs
A new race is something more than a cosmetic vanity toy. It’s a new racial city. A few new storylines. New hearts, new lore.
William S. Burroughs
They matter only as much as the lore matters for you. Skill-wise no race is significantly better. The racial skills are mostly crap anyway, with 2 or 3 exceptions. They’re never crucial.
William S. Burroughs
So, the Living Story is out for several months. Are we to expect a lot of mini-content updates? A truckload of balancing? Nothing?

I’m highly suspicious of this one. It just flashed through the screen, unexplained. I think they might be keeping a new playable race in their sleeve…
