Althea, Rurik’s fiancée, was killed by the Charr in GW1 and her body was used for some ritual sacrifice. She could have been eaten, but overall it hasn’t been flat out answered that they do.
One of the ascended items the laurel vendor sells would seem to suggest it involved fire.
I ran GW1 missions for her ashes, it was indeed fire. I even sold her ashes a few times. That was very morbid, but it made a quick couple of coppers for me!
I’m a horrible man now.
Yes, in one place and one place only.
The Charr Arena!
Charricus Maximus 4tw!
The thing is already an instance, so with the added spectator mode functionality ANet could get creative.
That’s the type of area I wouldn’t mind in the Hall of Mists. A race inspired dueling arena.
Charr could have the Arena.
Humans could have a Brawling Pit.
Sylvari could have a Dueling Circle.
Norn could have a Moot Hall.
Asura could have a Golem Gala or something neat like that.Oh, nice ideas!
Hadn´t even thought that far. ATM I would be baffled beyond BELIEF if ANet could manage giving us this area as a simple out of the way map for these things.4 more maps with different layouts sounds like outright decadence to me!
Oh they’ll get to it, have faith. Much like the faith of the Six Go—-oh wait they left the Humans bad comparison!
Okay have faith…that one day your children will also complain that the maps aren’t out yet. lol
Yes to open world duel
all those that say no have ego issues and are being kittenly kitty.
People say the same about those wanting to force PvP in a area where it has no right to be in as well.
So we have something in common it seems.
It’s absolutely necessary for a MMO to have it.
No, it’s not.
Ok, ok, let me word it differently. Its absolutely necessary for an MMO to have it if it wan’ts to be taken seriously. Because many people don’t take this game seriously for reasons such as this.
Nonsense. Many people like this game in part because there is no dueling. This thread is full of them.
I’ve yet to see a post by anyone who has categorically stated “No dueling under any circumstances!” Everyone who is generally anti-dueling seems to be fine with dueling arenas.
Even Blizzard has no dueling in cities. Therefore Goldshire and the gate of Stormwind is full of idiots measuring their kitten. “Dool meh, Brah!”
Do you not like seeing other MMO players? Who cares what they say BLOCK and AUTO DECLINE DUELS there you go no more complaints, really dude.
Okay then another factor to think about.
Let’s say we have open PvP, but a lovely couple want to throw down right near a Champion, let’s say Troll for this example.
Does Troll’s damage influence their fight?
Do they get to damage Troll?
Does nearby support players throwing down heals affect their fight in any way?
Do the conditions, like fire for example, contribute to the fight against the Troll?
If you answer “no” because the duel shouldn’t affect the Troll fight then why even have the duel in PvE to begin with? Because then we’d just have trolls trolling Troll.
Well to be fair in another thread some PvE players don’t mind the idea of dueling. It is the open world dueling that some people want to push that causes some to take up arms.
Really , so if gw2 add pk style u all have a special heart attack?
The pve players , are only a base of hellokity games nothing more.
1) all u do is pve , cause u cant pvp another one, why? u are afraid and a terrible pvp player.
2) The pve players never want to do pvp , cause they skill play is terrible they only want to figths mobs , cause mobs cant think really and vs another player they fell inferior.
So if we’re a base of hellokity games, gods there’s not a single concise thought in that line, why even bother with open PvP in our ‘hellokity’ games?
Yes, in one place and one place only.
The Charr Arena!
Charricus Maximus 4tw!

If they wouldn´t be occupied with all kinds of other “more important” stuff.
That’s the type of area I wouldn’t mind in the Hall of Mists. A race inspired dueling arena.
Charr could have the Arena.
Humans could have a Brawling Pit.
Sylvari could have a Dueling Circle.
Norn could have a Moot Hall.

I just can’t rap my mind around people who say “NO DUELING NO AND NO”. It’s absolutely necessary for a MMO to have it.
No it isn’t but let’s continue with this post…
The only reason why a person would say no to it in my opinion (which are hardy valid is).
1. GW2 who hate all MMO’s including WoW who say. "NO BECAUSE WoW HAS DUELING AND “I” DON’T WANT THIS GAME TO BE A WOW CLONE".2. Players being just bad at this game and don’t like being beat along with being selfish honestly this is the only valid reason I can think of along with 1.
Or you could go with #3: Some players tire of the PVP idea and want a cooperative play game where the idea isn’t to beat down fellow players but explore and enjoy a world with them.
I play other games with PvP and PvE, for me PvE wins out every time. I want to explore stories and the world developers have created. If I want to bash someone in then I have PvP specific games that serve this purpose. The stories may suck or be non-existent but I’m not there for that.
GW2 already has a PvP area and I don’t mind dueling being there. In fact they should give you the ability to duel in areas much like Black Citadel or the Grove, but it doesn’t make sense to muddle PvP in PvE areas when we already have spots for them.
So my question for PvP’ers is why this demand to PvP in a area which isn’t built for PvP? Why have this desire to push that form of gameplay like that? If you want bigger maps or a different WvWvW field that’s fine, but it isn’t like the PvE players are suddenly demanding open limits on exploring a PvP area. There’s no need. So there’s no need for PvP in PvE areas.
I loved their intro for GW2, but mainly because I finally found a profession I loved (Guardian) and my main character was going to continue the tradition of my GW1 character.
So he was made human. Same name, similar looks, but overall a good descendant of the first character I made in the earlier game.
Althea, Rurik’s fiancée, was killed by the Charr in GW1 and her body was used for some ritual sacrifice. She could have been eaten, but overall it hasn’t been flat out answered that they do.
Considering the attitude of the Charr though, it leans towards the possibility.
As for the Asura they didn’t eat any Sylvari. Malomedies was the first Sylvari to meet with the Asura. Since the Asura saw them initially as just plants they experimented on him. He survived, but to this day there’s been some distrust to the Asura by certain Sylvari because of that moment.
I’ve been playing since BWE2 and I still enjoy it.
:)
I’m not giving you weird looks. I’m a girl and I think my female Sylvari is the sexiest PC I have.
Caithe and Trahearne are also pretty sexy. I think that the Sylvari are pretty kitten hot.
Treahearne
Get outTreahearne is a massive stud.
If you mean a boring stiff piece of wood used to support something then yes he is.
And you get your numbers from where? Just curious.
From my guilds, they’re already dead.
Oh well that just explains everything!
Arenanet pack it up, this guy’s guilds are dead.
Never mind it could be the player, or the fact that other players have different schedules and tastes.
Nope all Arenanet’s problem!
You sure did settle us straight, thank you. :P
I remember helping out a newbie level for a while, next thing I know I’m showing him the way to the Hall of Monuments to collect his GW1 legacy.
I smiled when I got the following question: “All this stuff is mine?!!!!!” Indeed it is friend.
:)
Two Norns were arguing who was the best.
They boasted, they drank, and they kept trying to top each other’s stories.
All the Norn around them listened as one drunkenly said, “I’m trying to prove my point: I’m better than you!”
Finally the leader of the lodge walks up, takes their mugs away, and demands they sleep this off.
The two drunken Norn asked her, “HEY Who do you think is better between the two of us?!”
The Lodge Leader shrugs and says, “I don’t know nor care. It would be a Moot point.”
I read the original link’s post.
I don’t necessarily agree with him, but I could understand the frustrations.
When you play a game with a rigid structure like the trinity you expect to have certain responsibilities and stick to them only. The idea of a class that can do it all somewhat, let alone all classes, that’s downright terrifying to some.
So it might cause them to pause and get lost, thus the “What’s the point?” lamentations.
However people who didn’t agree with the trinity, seeing it as a dusty old system where very little imagination is allowed for your character, will at least entertain the notion of GW2’s gameplay a bit more.
Our classes aren’t about what pigeonhole they fit in, but rather what build you can enjoy the most. The OP’s thought about power and not really feeling the difference happened to me too a bit. My Guardian was powerful, but not really doing the damage I liked.
After reviewing my trait lines and even some of my gear I saw that I was all over the place and not in a good way. So after refocusing my traits I now use spirit weapons like crazy and enjoy every minute of it.
Yes in a sense I still pigeonholed myself with my traits, but they are flexible enough for me to switch to something else if I want. That’s what makes this game my favorite If I want to have a trinity-like feel to it I can, but I’m not forced to be in that specific role forever.
As a full PVE player I’m actually glad PVP is getting a few updates dedicated to them.
Both sides should, theoretically, be supported equally. There might be one month where one side gets more tweaks than the other, but at the core both sides are needed for this game and the community to grow.
Humans can become gods. Asuras can’t.
Asurans have the tech to become greater than gods.
He’s rich you know, that’s what I can get from all the times I chatted with him. :P
He’s okay, but sometimes comes off too much like Maverick on the Charr side.
“I’m just that good, so good.” Yeah we get it buddy.
From an RP pov, not really because my lineage was in the Shiverpeaks and near Kryta region. Addlebrain—-er I mean Adelbern did a stupid thing, much like the Vizier of Orr did because of the Charr. I’m glad the Queen is doing a smart thing by making peace.
Besides we held them off with Ebonhawke and gave them a ruffling of fur because of it. I say let them have the former Ascalon territories while we deal with the Dragons.
We humans must reclaim Orr at least!
Isle of Janthir! We may not be the best, but we are helpful and the veterans from the BWE are determined to make this place awesome.
we should call them the Nornhills!
All I see is an argument that basically sums up to “If I can’t have it then no one can.” All I am asking for is something akin to dungeoning/raiding with tier gear that is associated with difficulty. The more difficult the dungeon the better the items and the better they look.
Where you see these arguments as sum up to “If I can’t have it…” I see them sum up to “Why aren’t you copying (Insert title here)?” ArenaNet wants to try something different with GW2. So far they are attracting people and if they want they will change things again.
Right now they are set on this path and the game hasn’t lost enough players to warrant a change so they must be doing something right.
Now I’ve read through this thread and for certain parts I don’t mind some of your suggestions: Harder zones and such. I’m not a PvP’er so I’ll let more experienced minds discuss that little event. Though it seems that with the Suncove area and with Flame and Frost that ArenaNet is giving us different and sometimes tough areas to play in.
On a completely different note, I’m glad this game gets away from the traditional Skinner-box of certain level designs. Plus it completely pulls away from the codependent relationship marker that is subscriptions.
This makes me, as a player, feel rather good that I could come back if they have done something I don’t really agree with and check up on them later on.
Interesting, I could see how guilds will use this for their recruitment pitches.
Technically after the tutorial (for the Norn that would be the big moot hunt and taking down Isomir) you can go to any of the starting areas for any of the races.
When you start off as a Norn you’ll be in Wayfayer Foothills, all you need to do is go to the city Hoelbraek and in there is a gate to Lion’s Arch.
Lion’s Arch has a set of rings for every starting area for every race.
Just pick the one for Divinity’s Reach and you’ll be in the Human city before you know it.
If they are creating Humans chances are they’ll be leveling in Shaemoor, the area close to the city. Go and have fun!
And the point of an MMO is to get epic loot and pwn some noobs right? (Come on, you used to talk like that back in 2003-2004, don’t lie x3)
I thought the point was just to have fun. Also I’ve never talked like that.
Now if you are really interested in knowing I tended to rant like Doctor Doom when attempting something in game (PvP and PvE).
Me and my friends have our own personal guild for bank space. I mean, I’m the only member of my own guild and I worked on it since launch to cultivate enough points to buy a bank. That took a long, long time on my own, lemme tell ya.
Hmm a guild of one, I don’t know why this thought hasn’t come to me before.
I could use the influence items still for myself instead of randomly giving them to guilds and leaving.
I’ll get more bank space for myself.
At the very least it will reduce the guild invite spam I constantly decline.Thank you for this idea!
In a lone guild, every single time you do a dynamic event, you’ll get 2 influence.
It’ll be a long time before you unlock the necessary stuff to get bank space. A really long time.
I tend to buy some keys for my BLCs, I’m constantly cursed with those influence items that clog up my inventory space. It probably won’t solve all my influence problems, but it is a nice start.

Dyes: Celestial, Illumination & Midnight Ice
Feathered Headpices
CoE Vest
CoE Gloves
CoE Pants
Embroidered SandalsIf your skintone was darker I would totally believe you for an elonian survivor
Kinda don’t know what that is hehe
Someone who survived Palawa Joko’s assault on the land of Elona and came to Tyria.
Overall I can see it as well if you did have darker skintone.
I must now make a meme pic of Logan: “I must go, my peo—-queen needs me!”
Here’s my Guardian, went for a futuristic look that really fits well with the newly released 8 bit weapons.
That is actually flippin’ cool!
To contribute to this thread here’s mine.
Purchase the items to make The Flameseeker Prophecies or buy it outright.
The purchase The Dreamer and offer it as a prize if someone could spam the Nyan Cat lyrics (10 hour version) on the map chat.
Level up the remaining 6 crafts to 80.
Finally drift around offering free silvers and golds to small or struggling guilds just for the heck of it.
With the remaining money I drift around Tyria like Simon from the end of TTGL.
Besides the things I really want cost karma.
I don’t want to ruin the game’s trading post economy, I don’t want to destroy the world, I just want to be “that strange nice man who helped” and now disappeared just as quickly.
and screw Zojja,
I wish—-er I mean yeah what this poster said!
To quote a golem I once knew “I’m going to form my own Inquest. One with blackjack, dancers, and booze! On second thought forget the blackjack and dancers.”
Agreed, I know that some fans will no doubt record this but I want Arenanet to provide us a copy in which I can throw money at them.
I must acquire this!
I watched the video and immediately thought.
“What…what did I ingest before seeing this?”
Then Rytlock’s eyes glowed and now I can’t sleep with the lights off.
lol
Koss got sick of them?
Or some Priory guy named Jones hated them too much.
Somewhere out in the net a person furiously draws up Rytlock in a Quaggan suit and I feel like I’ve helped contribute to some little bit of insanity.
Well Braham’s dad was named Sunchaser and was described having darker skin in the recent online story. A dark skinned Norn is possible with that.
Basically famous daddy takes son from famous mommy to raise… Because famous daddy loves her so much he wants nothing to get in the way of her growing into a truly legendary figure among the norn. (though we all know she ends up surpassing that and becomes famous among all races.) He goes so far as to ask his friends to raise his boy when he passes and even demands that no one tell her he is dead. Out of fear she will be tempted to go there and raise her so, rather then become the great and heroic figure she is now… Kind of romantic if you think of it like a norn.
Seconding this, it screams “norn” and is a good example of my norn culture =/= human culture post.
Norn aren’t Klingons, no matter how badly you want to fanfic it. Legend could not supplant everything else in a functunal culture, maternalism, compassion, responsibility, care for a child you bore. I will still see Eir as more than some ego driven opportunist not wanting a child dragging her down, in spite of this story, and these contrived explanations.
Norns aren’t Klingons, you are correct. So your idea is to cram them in a box made from Human ideals that compassion, maternalism, and other human factors you value?
That’s not a solid plan. Norns aren’t Klingons, but they aren’t Humans either.
I wonder if ArenaNet intended for Eir to have a son all along or if they are kind of “expanding her story” (retconning) to fit him in.
Technically its not a retcon. Based on what I’ve read there’s no evidence to established she never had a kid nor she never had a relationship. All we knew, before this, was she is a tall redheaded Norn Ranger (kinda hot) with a pet wolf who is possibly the oldest member of the guild that fought dragons. She was the tactician of the group, a sculptor, and lost her father to the Icebrood (I think). This is just another thing added to her history, not a retcon really.
A good example of a retcon would be she was in a relationship with someone and he/she was the only person they ever loved, no others came before them or could come after…..except for this one guy who pops into the story and says “yeah we hooked up before that guy”. That would be a retcon, or establishing she had a kid and then later on in a story say she never had a kid.

Cutie Pie Kitty Cat.
Then perhaps Chauncey Von Snuffles III will be the inspiration for the Male version.
Mountain Lion cubs are cute. Lion cubs are cute. They somehow manage it without the cutesy anime crap.
My Charr would not follow a Charr with a bowler hat and monocle.
Now a pimp cane….maybe.
No, but would’ve loved to be a watcher.
@ Haters : you think E-Sports are boring, I get it. I think watching other people playing golf is 3 times as boring, yet it exists as a sport. Conclusion?
The definition of sport is whether you can drink beer to watching it or not?
Because that’s the only excuse I can see for golf!
Dang, poor kid.
I must agree: Watching other people play video games is by and large as fun as watching paint dry.
watch this
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=74HhIS-TS10
By the Gods I was so bored I slept so long I think there’s a new patch now.
I better go check.
Let’s Play videos and such things like that are only entertaing to me if the back and forth between two or more players is hilarious. At that point I’m not even watching the thing, but rather listening like a radio station. The only time I tend to watch is when the discussion they have relates to the game (Sonic ’06 bugs on Game Grumps being a fun example).
To all the people who say that doing the world bosses are “fun” and " I do them because they are designed so well, lulz" Would you still do them if there were no chest at all?
Yes because I’ll even fight rune troll or champ boar repeatedly.
I kill things, I get XP, even at lvl 80 I can still get some skill points out of this leveling.
That helps with my mystic forge.
Plus I probably helped a lowbie player and that brings a smile to my face.
The guy was in Destiny’s Edge. I’d let him wear whatever color armor he wants.
In fact if he wanted to wear a quaggan outfit the only thing I would comment is, “I think that eye button is coming loose sir.”
There is the ice dragon lieutenant still available:

When playing as your warrior one night, hitting F1 and wondering why stuff isn’t on fire yet. Then you realise you just wasted Arcing Slice.
This living story event affects both Norn (frost) and Charr (flame), the combination of the Dredge (usually found in the colder climates) with the Flame Legion is probably where the term originates.
It’s funny that the norn shelters are under contruction, barely started, but the huge ale kegs are already in place.
When the keg is drained the children can sleep in one.
Either that or they’re already sleeping it it and drinking, thus causing the drain in the first place.
