I think her death just proves that some people never grow when it count to others.
Tybalt and Fogel, they learned and grew and even Fogel said at one point to the player that he considers them a child of his.
Sieran, though I love her attitude, just didn’t learn that final lesson because she’s an optimist even to the end.
I’m going to die possibly? Wow that sounds like a new exciting thing! When the doors closed she probably thought By the Pale Tree how am I getting out of this one? but unlike her other misadventures there was no way out.
Sometimes the reckless person goes out with the realization of responsibility, while others just die without thinking of that final consequence.
The only character I had any care for at all was Hiroki. She is cute :p
Hioki, Seiran, Ifwyn, and Batanga
happy sigh
You sir have gall.
I like gall.

Let’s play with the idea that the races couldn’t beat the dragons.
Due to some strange circumstance, you get to fight and then become corrupted by one of the Dragons.
Which would you choose?
I’d rather be Risen than Branded or Icebrood. In the Orr areas it seems like the farmers, servants, and other Risen there tend to their old lives before being disturbed by the living. Almost akin to recent zombie films where they regain some automatic reactions based on what they last did in life.
Plus I don’t want to be rock nor ice, even though I may look like a version of the Deep Ones after my corruption considering my choice.
I’m not really sure if this does belong in the Lore section, but it should be a fun thread for some
So which Dragon minion would you be?
Fancy cat, some material bags, and that’s about it.
Saved it as well. Couldn’t stand the thought of destroying it for a few Karma after the wee one worked so hard on it.
They are being mass produced in chinese child sweat shops.
The factories are underground.
They exploded and caused ruptures in the land.
Refugees are running away from these ruptures.
Oh my gods of Tyria this has come full circle!
My character ripped it up and consumed the delicious karma inside.
Considering how he still runs around and helps them out regardless of reaching that tier, its a fair thing to do.
Oh hey there’s a backpack! lol
But in GW1, I did everything already and then eventually my character passed away. Finding out now that no one remembers me, not one single person, but instead everyone thinks Gwen did it, that’s a dagger to heart. There is even nothing I can do. My new character can run around with some stuff of the HoM, but even that, even there, no one ever explained who the hero was, that owned the HoM. It’s just some random kitten, who was probably one of Gwen’s disciples.
Sadly we’ll never get the reverence in legends the way we should, because we are the muscle behind the hero proxies.
Like Orion and Renya said in Drok’s at the end of the Prophecies campaign:
Orion: Claude is right. To answer your question, Shadow, some of us left voluntarily, some not.
Reyna: And in the end, we all played our part; that is what is important.
I think the only game I can remember where my character’s legend lived on was KOTOR 2 and they had the ability for you to build up what your character did and what gender they were in conversation. That was a neat trick of them.
Hopefully one day we’ll get some ability to go into a Create Character screen and the result becomes the statue of our hero from GW1 sitting proudly in our home instance.
Thinks about that for a minute, then decides to run to the Suggestion forum
reads the article New Rewards and the Achievements System
sees a cat with a bowler hat
Never have I wanted a digital thing more than now.
Thanks for the map Curuniel, holy heck I forgot how much the Charr took back.
I hope we get a few expansions that let us see the Blood Legion’s old home. I liked that place in EoTN.
“Yeah, you say the sky is blue, but that isn’t my sky. My sky is coloured pink due to the pink fecal matter left there by floating unicorns!”
O.O
Can…can I live in your world?
Because that would be awesome and scary at the same time!
Then the war is averted because the Asurans finally invented shiny keys and jingled them at the last minute.
But you know what, I was annoyed by Gwen, but I did not hate her… yet. It wasn’t until I read Ghost of Ascalon that I developed a burning hatred for that witch, that can never be extinguished. In that book, I think it’s either Riona or Dougal who said it, it is mentioned that Gwen is the greatest hero of humanity.
Wham! What a lie! What a freaking lie! Gwen did nothing! Nothing, that is even remotely close to what my character did. Or Togo, or Kormir or 50% of the human NPCs in GW1. Not only did Gwen just take a big steaming pile of kitten on my legacy, no she also sealed all hope that I will get a Kryta in GW2. Instead I get Ascalon 2.0. Because that’s the only thing most krytans seem to care about, what Ascalon did in the past. Heck, they even look more like ascalonians than krytans.
But back to Gwen. You think Trahearne stealing the show in your personal story is bad? How about Gwen stealing everything you did in 4 campaigns and various smaller add-ons from you? I think this is much worse. I’d say, we dig up that hag from her grave and hack her into pieces, burn those pieces and erase her name from history. She does not deserve to have a legacy.
In a sick way I can forgive that due to revisionist history.
From the viewpoint of Riona or Dougal (I think it was Riona not sure) they lived in Ebonhawke which would color their perceptions. It is one thing for history to focus on a few key heroes and glorify them over the centuries, but it is another to have the whole kitten Pact raise Asparagus Neck up on their shoulders while you have to clean up the region and he doesn’t inspire squat.
At least with Gwen we could get ticked off or annoyed. With this guy I feel nothing and yet he’s the star of the hour?! Not on my watch!
Yeah Gwen and Thackaway shafted us in glory from the historical perspective. That burns, but it was also more than a century of people probably glorifying her in Ebonhawke that caused those characters from the novel to see her as the next coming of the gods. They are misinformed idiots who don’t realise how awesome we were back in the day friend
So I do understand where your opinion is on this, but for me it burns more that this glorification is happening right in my face for someone who doesn’t even have a personality.
Make a shiny god and you might get the two races to work together.
Okay so Humans show them Lyssa!
Get to it! No excuses!
I love how the link was filtered with kitten lol
The Hiiiiilllllsss are alliiiivveee with the souunnnddd of “Accelerating!”
Though romances are still possible, no breeding is possible.
“Literally how could you do it? The sheer mechanics of it are mind boggling….”
Its just like jumping into a river in GW2.
Look down, estimate, then leap.
It will hurt still. :P
I would not mind a ship to ship combat PVP area.
Making it along the lines of kegbrawl, have team versus team.
The coding would be difficult I guess, but wow it would be a fun thought!
I just spent 10 minutes making a post about Treehurt, whatever his real name is, and came to the conclusion Kormir is a better hero proxy than him.
I defended Kormir.
Think about that for a second, nobody loves you Kormir! GAH I need a drink! You clearly need to watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DxmkAoLC6_4
(you only understand it if you played original Guild Wars Nightfall)
I’ve watched it plenty of times.
In fact I kind of referenced this video (a slight rant that I should have the godhood) with my rant in the post defending her over Salad boy.
Here lies “Kan Cornelius”
Who’s last words were
“Mannn, that is deep”
That’s what you get for dating Norn women as a Human.
Badumptish
Unless you cranked out a lot of effort to get the achievements for Hall of Heroes in GW1? Not really, it was mostly vanity items if I remember right, like minipets and such.

Do I need the possible materials if I salvage it?
Yes: then do it
No: Move on to step 2
Step 2: is it worth at least a couple of silver on trading post or merchants?
Yes: Then sell it
No: Move on to step 3
Step 3: Do I have nearby friends who are within the levels of using it and could need it?
Yes: Mail it to them free of charge, I’m just that nice. Seriously I give out rings I craft ‘just because’
No: Step 4!
Step 4: Do I have enough junk to throw into the Mystic Forge?
Yes: In the Forge you go!
No: Get more stuff and repeat steps until satisfied.
That’s my flowchart for items.
(For one of my alts)
Here lies Sivarson Greyfur,
Charr need no Gods, but still must respect gravity.
The expectations, the trailers, and the Destiny’s Edge
This is where I pity Trahearne, because outside a few mentions in the game I never remembered him being hyped up. Who was hyped up? The guild Destiny’s Edge. You have them in the trailers, you had them discussed in various videos and behind the scenes stuff, and you even have a book about them!
That’s where my expectations were kepted for this game’s plot.
I wanted to see the Edge be rebuilt and then we stick it to the Elder Dragons!
Yes I know you can see THAT story in the story missions for the Dungeons, but that’s a tease!
Why not flip it around? Make the main story based on your Edge mentor and have Salad boy play Indiana Jones in the Dungeons looking for something to use against Orr? That way when he shows up at the end and rejuvinates it his Wild Hunt was established and finished, but he wasn’t put completely into the spotlight?
This NPC, this leafy guy, has to compete with five freaking awesome characters you propped up and somehow he’s supposed to do it? No, not going to happen with me. I was teased by the concept of races grouping together on EoTN and I was salivating for it in GW2. Take back the salad, I want the real meat of the story on my plate!
Now on reflection of his character do I hate him? No, but I still pity how he was supposed to be this hero proxy when in reality he shouldn’t have been. Would he be a decent secondary character like Soulkeeper or Fogel? Yeah and in fact that’s how I treated him.
The Future of Trahearne
If he is used for future purposes keep him in Orr. Don’t kill him, don’t wound him horribly, but rather have him stay with Orr and be a developing focus there so maybe he can gain more of a personality instead of being just a loaded weapon to kill Risen. He served a purpose, but didn’t really match or exceed the expectations that I had. (what expectations? I barely knew who he was!)
I have more thoughts on the matter, but this was the most I could condense everything.
post concluded, the forum system couldn’t handle ramble of my magnitude
Part 2:
GW Eye of the North
Here we don’t just have 1 or 2 but a whole team!
Gwen: She came back, she was also shown in the ads, and it even hinted she was back when you think of the title acronym (GW:EotN). She hates the Charr, she’s filled with anger, and eventually she stops fearing them. Yeah she was a little annoying but I did like how this company took someone we thought was dead and bring them back to show that sometimes war is a huge kitten in the kitten (no real curses there, I just wanted to type kitten).
I liked her development, for the most part, and she too has a little cheat I’ll get to later.
Jora: Our first Norn and by the Gods she left an impression. She was powerful, pretty, and needed help killing her brother who is now corrupted…wait what?! She was able to put aside her pain of killing a family member to balance out the world and gain forgiveness by the Bear Spirit. Hers was a story of redemption and blood washing blood. She was willing to stoop to asking humans for help, which for a Norn was a hurdle considering how proud they are.
Ogden Stonehealer: He was the scholar of our group, what Trahearne tries to be, but he was established better in the short time I played this game. He had an empathy with his kin that was also a curse if you think about it. This dwarf was determined to see the Destroyers put away for good and believed in the Great Dwarf feverently.
Vekk: The thinker, the grouch, and yet my favorite out of this group with Pyre being close second. He was a brilliant mind and able to conjure up answers to any problem if pushed. We also see a touching moment when Gadd, his father, dies and Vekk actually does seem to have feelings. This was a good moment for Arenanet to do considering this was also the first time we’ve ever seen Asura.
Pyre Fierceshot: The outcast, the warrior poet (of sorts), and the Teal’c of the group. This was the first Charr we ever encountered and befriended who didn’t like his own bretheren. He showed us that some Charr don’t need gods nor do they want them. In some twisted way he mentored Gwen, showing some pride when she said “I hate you but I no longer fear you.” Honestly when I heard that we could play Charr in GW2 I thought of this guy and yelled out “Heck yeah! I’m kicking some butt!”
The cheats and my confession
Now earlier in Togo and Gwen I said they had cheats and they did. The Bonus mission packs helped us learn more about these guys than most other hero proxies. That does cloud my judgement a bit when comparing to Trahearne. We see moments that were history unfold and overall that was enjoyable.
So with that long winded assessemnt these were the previous hero proxies and you see something in common with them: they were with us from nearly the beginning.
Now I do have a Sylvari character and I do know that he shows up more there than the other races, so I’m basing most of my postings on my Human Guardian because he was my first character.
More to come in part 3
Trahearne is a mixed bag for me, but overall I don’t hate him. I rather pity him.
I’ll see if this can be expanded on clearly.
In nearly every chapter or expansion to Guild Wars (EOTN being a slight exception) every one of them had a hero proxy. That’s okay, because it allows dialogue and conversations to go smoother. However the main differences between the earlier hero proxies and Salad Tongs—er I mean Trahearne is they had personalities I can remember.
GW Prophecies
Rurik: He cared about his people, defied his father, and went to Kryta because Ascalon was in trouble.
Yes he went Kilroy Stonekin in stupidity at times, but you could see he was a passionate leader.
We eventually had to have an old Yeller moment and put him down after being turned into the Vizier’s champion.
GW Factions
Mhenlo: A contemplative monk henchman who is established in the lore earlier, a member of the main GW cast.
He has a firey Elementalist girlfriend who is jealous of his friendships with other women in Cantha.
Apparently he was a ladies man of sorts back there and was returning to Cantha upon request by Master Togo
Master Togo: This guy was what I wanted instead of Treehurt. He established a friendship with the Tengu, a teacher to students, and overall a well rounded individual as NPCs go. Yes he had a somewhat annoying voice, but his story was so much more entertaining. I liked him, but he had a slight cheat which I’ll get to later.
GW Nightfall
Kormir: No one likes you dear, but at least you trained the Sunspear recruits and suffered some pain before taking over the godhood mantle…which I should have taken but I’m putting that behind me.
She was a warrior, a leader, and believed in the principles of the Sunspears. She failed a mission and was presumed dead only to pull a John Sheridan (Babylon 5) and come back to help lead, or just sit in the background, and help us to the end.
Oh dear Six Gods Kormir is a better hero proxy than Cabbage Patch man, but I must move on to the odd duck of this series.
More to come in part two of my post
Because of Steve Blum. :-)
Imagine if they gave one of the Charr Crispin Freeman’s voice.
If they do this I want Morgan Freeman to voice Sylvari.
Oh wow him as Treehurt…Tryptophan..what’s his name—oh Trahearne! Morgan Freeman as Trahearne would actually be tolerable.
The UAV skill is totally getting nerfed with AoE.
BOO! Next you’ll be saying Club Strike or Tango Down! is getting a nerf.
GAH! This game is dying now! :P
My poor engie charr, with his mask displayed its like looking at my pet cat with a sock on its nose.
So funny yet pathetic at the same time.
Am I the only one who uses the transmutation stones if I don’t like a skin -.-
I use them constantly. The look I have is a mix of Invader armor and the legging of Plated armor. Now I’m just looking for better stats which reflect my playstyle and I transmute the look over my new armor piece.
I think the perspective of this thread is backwards. We need more male armor to make them look like strippers.
My charr needs more sex appeal :P
Don’t we have the Pit Fighter armor already? lol
I’m no longer in guilds.
The last two I had either were based in other countries, which that was a shame I liked them, or had zero activity to begin with.
Of course to put context into this I did join small guilds (less than 20 people).
Whenever I joined I represented constantly and happily dumped my Influence earned into those guilds.
So…let me get this straight. We have teleportation. Instantaneous teleportation that is perfectly safe and harmless. But we can’t make a zepplin that can travel to Cantha? I just…it kind of takes away from the world for me. Come on Asura fairy rainbow magic technology, WORK!
Now…getting Cantha to talk or trade with us and not just shoot ships down…that is the challenge. They are rather xenophobic.
Well the magical Asura rainbow makers have to get to their destination in order to create the Stargates for Guardian Jack O’Neill to use. :P
The crafting criers in town, especially the Norn one.
“I have not taken leave of my senses…” with the way you keep ranting? I think you have dear.
I want Rytlock to hold out his fingers in a gun-style and say “….Bang.” :P
I too want the instrumental.
There are no vocals for the other tracks in my CDs, but then this pops up in my playlist.
It is rather jarring, the instrumental itself would be far prettier.
I’ll find a zone I haven’t completed, look around to help someone, and before I know it that area is cleared.
It doesn’t take too long for me.
Here lies Carth,
Guardian until the end, sword in his hand, defending those who cannot fight.
Last words “Stand your ground!”
For the ghosts as a whole? Yes
But for Adelbern? Dear god no, I hated everything about him in GW1 and I am glad he is suffering. I just wish he did not take Ascalon along with him.
Thank you!
Granted Rurik was a Kilroy Stoneskin idiot at times, but at least he knew the humans needed to get allies or die alone.
Adelbern’s folly cost all those good men and women their lives and afterlife. I do feel sorry for them and if possible I’d have my character help them rest finally, but they draw their swords at me. They become a threat at this point to which I have to smite them.
I’m happy enough with my Charr choosing them for racial sympathy. Let’s just say he feels a need to educate them on not needing to worship something to have a sense of purpose in their lives.
They worship your Norn now, don’t they? ;P
Well, her… “attributes” are rather divine. XD
Must be the jiggly rear during the Carlton’s dance. It mesmerizes everyone.
grumbles
Lousy mesmerizing Norn women, I can’t properly fight with all that dancing.
I’m hoping that the Branded get some loving attention here, by which I mean slaughtered wholesale.
This is more of a fanboyish hope but maybe one day we could get statues or tapestries to display the big achievements in our Home District or player housing.
Stuff like finding your sister, solving your personal regrets, forging the pact, taking down the Dragon leutenants for the first time, etc. I know that certain NPCs show up in our home instance at the moment and that’s a good first step towards my dream.
Though there is one thing I really hope they do.
Allow us to transport back to our home instance at 0 cost
Even a very reduced cost (barely a copper or two) would be appreciated for us higher level folks so far away from home. There would be an actual reason to come back home given that kind convenience.
For Class I’d love a combination of Rit/Monk/Engineer and call it Alchemist or something.
Basically give it the support role of a Engineer but more melee and poisons.
It could throw out bottles like a Skritt Lobber and buff allies or hurt enemies. The focus on melee over technological items, like guns, would give it a more fluid form of combat compared to the Engineer’s “plop down turret” style of fighting, which is still fun in its own right.
You should take another gander at the Engineer its everything your talking about.
……In short if you want it, the Engineer has it. Being the MOST versatile and fluid class in the game. You don’t have to be a turret camper if you don’t want. I personally rarely use the turrets except for the Healing turret. I hope this helped you out. If not I’m sorry I couldn’t be of assistance.
I’ve played every profession so far and my Engineer is working its way to being a TF2 Engineer/Gordon Freeman with the Tool kit
The problem I have with the Engineer is the weapons set at the moment.
At the moment, the profession is a bit too much “back line” for my tastes.
I don’t mind the rifles and pistols but when those are the only land weapons you can use that aren’t kits or packs it becomes a bother for me sometimes.
I guess what I’m trying to convey in my earlier post is bring in some of the utilities for a Engie with the weapons flexibility of a Thief. Maybe that would be a better fusion to look into.
The Thief has the maneuverability I like in a more midline direct fighter, but most of his skills from what I’ve been able to play with are traps, poison, or blinding powders of a sort.
Weapons-wise I adore the combinations they have considering their role.
So with my earlier post, we could have a profession that could support people with limited alchemy, still do various types of damage with different weapons, but won’t be as fast as a Thief in terms of fighting.
Instead of being a single target killer or a utility jack-of-all trades, the result would be a swift fighter who could still maintain some assistance for the group while being able to handle more than one target if need be.
(edited by Atlas.9704)
I used to play CoH/CoV off and on when they went F2P. I was so glad that I could dust off my Trial characters and resume play when it was possible.
Then I decided to delete them (they were around level 15 or so) and restart with Tesla Man!
Then the axe fell
I’m glad to see other CoH players in this game!

I’d do it because I want to kill a Dragon!
That’s all there is to it.
