Skill pools for revenant

If you guys can’t see how Rev utilities are stronger then other classes just think about the fact that we have access to 5 sec of Quickness every 10-15 sec what other class has a Utility, Buff, Ability that gives 5 sec of quickness every 10-15 sec…. I’ll wait.

Revenant’s utilities are not stronger than other classes utilities. The fact they have low or no cd is heavily compensated by their dependence on energy. Sure, you can have Impossible Odds active for a few more seconds, but prepare to deal with the fact that you will be soon out of energy, because you will probably want to use some other skills to make any benefit from this one. And Rev without energy = dead Rev.

While I agree that Legend Swapping on cooldown is not the best solution for the overall feel of the class it is still “A” solution. If you have watched any of the videos of players with a decent understanding of the class you will see that they pretty much blow through their energy then swap to get 50 more. You only need to make that 50 energy last 10 sec before you can get 50 more for free so that isn’t that hard to do.

Ok, even if this makes rev utilities ‘stronger’, as you wrote, still I don’t understand how is it related to your opinion that Revenant shouldn’t get more utilities to choose from. I don’t know why would it be so bad if he gets more ways to customize his right side of bar.
If Rev get 1 more utility per legend, then:
+ More customization (150 more combinations)
+ Less predictability
+ New interesting skills
+ More happy players (I am sure many will appreciate this)
+ Chance to not slot utilities we don’t want = Not wasting utility slots
- A little harder balancing

Those utilities shouldn’t be here to make Rev stronger, but to create more ways how to play him. 5 more skills is not so much, but they can add that feel of free choice that some players are still missing in Rev.

Guardian’s “Feel My Wrath!” provides 5 sec of quickness, yeah, it’s 30 sec, but it’s AoE, + 10 sec of Fury and doesn’t punish your other skills (viz Energy)
EDIT: Yeah, sorry, this one is Elite skill. But still, I don’t think that overall rev’s utilities are stronger, they are as strong as other classes utilities

What do you guys think about this, if (just if) warhorn gets replaced with a sword:

Sword skills:

  • Fire
-chain AA, slashing with fiery animations, last AA will throw fiery sword at your foe, burning him – 150 range, 3rd AA 600 range
-Throw fire projectiles at your foes, dealing huge dmg (animation similar to guard’s Zealot’s Defense, but with fiery projectiles and without that barrier) – 600 range
-spin around (just 1x, not 100x like an idiot with fire overload), creating wave of fire that burns foes, gain 1 sec of retalation for each foe struck – radius 240
  • Water
-chain AA, slashing with ice animations, each hit heals you, last one launches small water wave, which heals nearby allies and inflicts weakness to enemies. – 150 range, 3rd AA 180 radius
-Leap to target area, which grants regeneration and cures 1 condition from nearby allies, deals little damage to enemies – 600 range, 200 radius, leap finisher
-Thrust your sword into the ground, creating ice blade in target location (similar animation to mesmer’s gs skill 3), damaging and chilling enemies – 900 range, 240 radius, blast finisher
  • Air
-chain AA, slashing with lightning (or windy) animations, last one sends a lightning bolt to nearby foes (acts like ele’s staff air 1, but weaker, similar to the one Mai Trin is doing) – 150 range, 3rd AA 400 range
-Strike your foes with flurry of lightning (or windy) strikes, each strike applies 1 stack of vulnerability (Animation similar to war’s Flurry or mesmer’s Blurred frenzy, but with lightning or windy theme) – 150 range
-Throw lightning sword at your foe, blinding him. If the sword successfully hits, teleport to that foe and gain swiftness – 900 range
  • Earth
-chain AA, slashing with dust/rocky themed strikes, 2nd and 3rd strike bleeds your foe, 3rd one also cripples for 1 sec – 150 range
-Surround your sword with rocks and use it to block next attack. If attack is blocked, you can throw remains of that rocks to your the attacker, blinding him and foes around – throwing 900 range, projectile finisher
-Send out a wave of rock spikes ahead of you, crippling and bleeding foes – 900 range

I think something like this can work, it is a melee range, but also provides some mid range abilities and mobility (still they should fix scepter too)
PS: this is just to the weapon issue, not the rest issues

Still have yet to say how tempest is worst then ele as supporting i think you seem to think staff is an ele only wepon and tempest cant use a staff?
Mostly in this video a staff would of most likely just been sniped down and the necro would be killed after. I think d/wh was the best chose for the fight. I would still love to know what build this tempest was running.

Omg, I wrote so many reasons why it is not worth taking Tempest. And you wrote this… LOL
1 thing: Staff is far BETTER SUPPORT weapon than warhorn. Why? Because it’s long range weapon, have more fields (that are also stronger), have more CCs, have more damage, etc. BUT there are no good traits in tempest traitline which can rly help staff ele with support. So why to pick up tempest? (Other aspects of tempest are useless because of reasons I mentioned above).
So YES, tempest is making staff ele worse. You HAVE TO sacrifice so many superior traits for really bad traits.

To your point that staff would be sniped down: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qSezIHteaPc
If solo staff ele almost in full berserk can survive (also he doesn’t have earth traitline) why not that one in the 1st video?

One can smile when recalling how people here were defending warhorn pick, that it would be used to summon storms.

Yeah, I remember when teaser appeared, 1/2 of ele community got in rage because of warhorn. The rest defended warhorn, saying that because on other classes it is a support weapon, doesn’t mean it will be on tempest too, and it will certainly bring some amazing storm calling skills. Tempest Outnumbered Roaming Video!

Avador.8934

So why to pick up Tempest, when:

  • For best support you will use staff (warhorn out)
  • Overloads are useless and do nothing for your support (New mechanic out)
  • You will most likely not replace SoR or ER by Wash the Pain Away (heal out)
  • Rebound is far far worse than our other elites. (Elite out)
  • Shouts are only useful on melee/close range, but as I said, you will not survive here without cantrips. As a staff ele you are also staying on long range. Also cantrips are useful for support too thanks to easier ressing/finishing by Armor of Earth/Mist form. I can’t imagine ele running without Lightning Flash. So I can see filling max 1 slot by shout. (Utilities half out)
  • Traits are really bad, that little support they provide is far less noticeable than support from water/arcane. Even fire traitline can be more helpful for support build than tempest thanks to blind on burning, longer lasting fire fields, fury on blasting fire fields and some personal damage increase. With earth traitline you are almost immortal if running support, means you are able to stay longer in fight and decreasing chances that you will be downed, saving your non-support based allies from ressing you. Support from water/arcane is more than excellent and I am sure many peope will prefer adding fire or earth to it. (Traits out = Tempest out)

So would you like to pick up Tempest for 1 shout? That’s it? Sacrificing powerful traitlines for 1 shout?

Hope you understand now. If not, then you are probably this:

Tempest Outnumbered Roaming Video!

Avador.8934

Yes, I’m sure dropping Earth is worth the ability to drop all your defensive utilities and a chance to kill yourself with Overloads. /sarcasm

Because ele is only able to have def in earth line that why all the ele are running earth fire air d/d?

Also you avoid the question what SUPPORT do you lose not def. Earth is a good def line but you mostly need to be in earth to get use out of it cutting a lot of your abitly to support other ppl when your simply trying to stay alive. Having def skills and effect in more of a gen atument such as seen in water, arcain and tempest line allows you to stay alive over all atuments better and support at the same time. It may not seem like it by tempest line is a very def aimed one with counter soft cc a stun brake an abitly to make protection stronger.

Though i would like to know what the build of the OP was. (trying to bring it back to the video)

  • 1. Staff is far better in support that warhorn + you can cast it in a long range = you are better protected.
  • 2. Overloads are crap and only water can provide some “support”, but it is just so weak and not worth it. It is also close range, means you are more in danger. It is also easily interruptable. It also locks you out of this important element (Or force you to stay in it while your major skills are on cd, you can choose).
  • 3. Elite skill is even worse crap. You can support your ally far better with Glyph of Elementals thanks to water elemental’s big heal, air elemental’s stun or prot/cripple/living shield from earth one. Or by taxi gs for easy escape.
  • 4. Healing skill is interesting, but I am not sure if some ele would like to give up SoR or ER.
  • 5. Other shouts can see some usage but their long cd hurts a lot. Also again you need to be in close range to make them useful. And in pvp/wvw you will not survive in close range/melee without cantrips/dagger mobility/focus defense for a long time.
  • 6. For support, water+arcane are mandatory. In Tempest traitline, minor traits are all about overloads, so they aren’t useful for us. (Note: 1 more thing working against overloads: Arcane traitline. EA and EAtt + many other traits are so strong because of constantly swapping attunements) The rest.. ehm.. Let’s take it from that point of supporting others. Half of them are, again, for overloads, which as I said are crap. Then, there’s Earthen Proxy, that provide something little for you without overloads. This trait is not even so powerful as it looks like. So 5 traits remains that can maybe do something for support:
    1. Gale Song – Maybe it works, in the case that both you and your ally are disabled at the same time and close enough to each other (This usually only happens if both you and him are fighting in melee/close range. As I said above, this distance have many cons for you).
    2. Latent Stamina – This trait should be in water traitline. Even that, the vigor bonus is not so big and again you need to be really close to your ally to make it work. (Again, overloads are working against this, because camping att causes this trait to be triggered far less)
    3. Tempestuous Aria – Not such a big bonus for shouts with so long cd. Force you to use shouts, but as I said above, without some cantrips you will not survive. Even in that video he’s using just 1 shout. Taking this trait for 1 shout is not worth it I think.
    4. Element Bastion – Probably the only good trait. Healing on aura is pretty nice. But again forcing you to close range.
    5. Imbued Melodies – This is a bad trait. If you are running staff, which is far better for support than warhorn, this trait does nothing for you. If you really take that warhorn, chance that you will be able to use it, is low. Your ally will usually not wait for you to stun break him, but instead use his own stun break. If he doesn’t have stunbreak or it’s on cd, still before you get close to him and use it, stun will be probably over. No reason to pick this over Element Bastion.

The biggest reason I love the tempest is the new play-style that it brings to the table. The risk/reward mechanic involved in overloading attunements locking you out of them for an extended period of time for a surge in power is a very interesting new mechanic that the elementalist currently has unavailable to them.

New play style? Haha, good one bro, good one. Risk/Reward mechanic doesn’t work here because of lack of good reward.

As I posted here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/revenant/Revenant-changes-wishlist/first#post5376128 I think these changes will solve almost every problem Rev currently has:

My Revenant changes wishlist:

General

  • Add 2 more utilities to each legend (The most important thing to me).

Sword MH + OH

  • skill 2: Increase dmg a lot and radius.
  • skill 3: Make it evade during attack.
  • skill 5: Decrease energy cost to 10.

Mace

  • skill 2: Make it deal 2 stacks of burning instead of 1.

Axe

  • skill 5: Increase radius a little.

Staff

  • skill 2: Instead of using skill, enemy just need to be struck to unlock 2nd skill.
  • skill 5: Make it also evade during attack

Hammer

  • skill 3: Make it evade during attack. (Maybe give it a 2nd skill that can be activated during channeling this skill, which causes you to stay in targeted location instead of returning. Not sure if that wouldn’t be op)

Jalis

  • Forced Engagement: Decrease energy cost to 30.
  • Vengeful Hammers: Give it a chance to destroy projectiles while active. (30% chance maybe?)
  • Rite of the Great Dwarf (elite): Make it 1 sec casting time. Also grants retalation.

Ventari

  • Ventari’s Will ( healing 2nd skill): Make it instant cast.
  • Energy Expulsion: Make it 1 sec casting time.

Shiro

  • Enchanted Daggers(Heal skill): Remove or decrease icd of daggers. Increase initial heal a little.
  • Impossible Odds: Decrease upkeep energy cost to 8.

Mallyx

  • No changes needed.

Traits

  • No changes needed.

Also for my 1st wish (2 more utilities per legend), there are some ideas:
Jalis

  • 1. skill – Block next 2 attacks, gain protection when expires.
  • 2. skill – Summon dwarf ghost from the mists to attack your target. (Upkeep skill)

Mallyx

  • 1. skill – Enchant your weapon with Mallyx’s power, your next few attacks with that weapon inflict randomly torment, poison or bleeding.
  • 2. skill – Teleport to target location, cripple nearby foes and inflict stack of bleeding on them for each type of condition you have.

Ventari

  • 1. skill – Summon energy barrier around the tablet for a few seconds, foes cannot cross the energy borders. (Similar to guard’s wards or ele earth staff 4)
  • 2. skill – Give regeneration to allies and blind foes near tablet.

Shiro

  • 1. skill – Grants swiftness, your and your allies next attack deal 25% more damage.
  • 2. skill – Remove conditions, damaging nearby foes. Damage incerases per condition removed.

Roy,

for the long term health of Revenant, we need more utilities

You cant counter situations without entirely changing your legend, which is disappointing. We’re too limited on our skill customization.

please do NOT rush rev or HoT

+1 to this. There are lots of little things needed like balancing numbers and adding a swiftness source, but this is the one big thing that needs to be addressed.

Yeah, I hope someone will read this. They really should add 2 more utilities per legend, then Rev will have the same number of them as other classes and the problem with lack of customization will be solved completely.

Well at least i hope you can keep at least one permanently with still a low but positive energy regen

Some are cheap, some are expensive. You’ll be able to keep multiple up at the same time. A lot of the inspiration for the skills came from what you might find a bard style class doing in other games.

I’ll be showing it all off plus some extra things on the POI this Friday which will give a much better idea of how everything works.

Please work on this Anet along with the elite Spec. I don’t want my Rev to be helpless when going up against Kraits and whatnot.

We still don’t know how will Revenant work underwater, but I am sure devs will make it amazing

I wanted some kind of personal projectile reflection. Maybe a trait to make sword 4 reflect, or have axe 5 leave behind a small reflection where the tear was.

Hammer projectile block and ventari tablet block are nice, but the revenant is supposed to be a very mobile profession in combat, I want a way to deal with projectiles while in melee without locking myself down to the Ventari tablet.

I am not sure if Rev needs projectile reflection, but if yes, then I think they should add this to staff skill 3. It suits that.

The Shiro heal feels a bit weak, I found I got more healing from the GM trait to steal life when hitting from behind or the sides.

Yeah, but that’s because of icd between dagger attacks and low initial heal. As I wrote above, removing icd and buffing inital heal can help a lot.

What? Childlish? Because we don’t like Tempest? So what, that are our opinions. As you can see most people don’t like Tempest, because of many reasons. Not just warhorn. You can’t force us to like it.
PS: Warhorn (skills) is probably the best thing on Tempest, which is sad, because it still need a lot of work.

My suggestions about overloads animations, as I play main ele charr female:
- fire overload: runing on 4legs in circle chasing own tail.
- water overload: lay on levitating disc made from water, playing with that bubble like cat,
- air overload: make hairs on tail stand up,
- earth overload: stand on four legs, being turned side to front of where we move, with only head turned in front, watching calmly things from above with interests, sometimes try to grab someting below in front, cats looks nice when they try to grab someting that is far away that they can’t grab.

For norn:
- water overload: running on top of that bubble like in comedy when people run on top of wood tossed into river.

Lol, really want to see this, at least Tempest will be fun to watch then.

GLINT TEASER

Wow, really excited. It’s definitely a surprise because everyone expected Rev elite spec to be the last.

We have tank, condi, heal, dmg. So what could it be? Maybe some aoe dmg? Boon sharing? Hope it provides some ranged options.

Anyway.. that thing in his chest… is a heart..?

Returning after a long time- class to play?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Avador.8934

Avador.8934

It will take time but one thing is for sure the most over powered and easy class will always be warrior. PS warrior is always wanted in dungeons/fractals.

Maybe for PvE, but now it looks that in PvP war is not so strong as it was.

Mesmer:

Not the best DPS but I think the clones are good for survivability, al least in low levels I can kill strong mobs. The bad part

-People is saying they were nerf with the last patch
-No place or no the best alternative for dungeon party

And yes, mesmer was nerfed, but still it is a really powefull class in PvP and I am sure when chronomancer comes out, it will also be for PvE.

my wishlist: scrap tempest and add a sword duellist with stances. problems solved.

Yeah, this is in my wishlist too. But sadly it’s too late for this. But who knows, maybe we’ll see this in some future elite spec…

Tempest Changes Wishlist

in Elementalist

Avador.8934

My changes wishlist. I have some things like you because I think they are pretty good ideas:

Overloads:

  • Change animations for Fire (rediculous whirling), Water and Air overload. Make Earth overload final part better (Now it looks like you are flying, make it like that you are actually thrusting that rock back into the ground by you hands)
  • Overload Fire – increase final damage, increase radius, grants aoe retalation at the end of casting
  • Overload Water – increase final healing, convert 2 conditions into boons on nearby allies at the end of casting
  • Overload Air – increase radius, increase damage, daze foes at the end of casting
  • Overload Earth – now also pulses aoe bleeding

Shouts:

  • “Wash the Pain Away!” – now also heals you for an additional 2000 health after finishing the cast
  • “Feel the Burn!” – now inflicts 2 stacks of burning
  • “Eye of the Storm!” – now also grants shocking aura
  • “Shock and Aftershock!” – decrease cd to 45 sec, split the “Aftershock” to 2nd skill available after the “Shock”. Recharging starts at the moment “Shock” is used. “Shock” grants that magnetic aura. “Aftershock” is instant and deals bleeding
  • “Flash-Freeze!” – make it instant cast, increase damage a little, reduce cd to 30 sec
  • “Rebound.” – Complete rework: Reduces recharge of your attunements by 50%, daze nearby enemies for 1/2 sec, damage and inflict weakness on them, you and nearby allies gain aura based on your attunement. Increase cd to 100 sec. Instant cast.

Warhorn:

  • Change warhorn casting animations and sound (Effect animations are good)
  • Wildfire – reduce cd to 25 sec
  • Water Globe – decrease speed of the field
  • Lightning Orb – decrease speed of the orb, increase attack radius of the orb
  • Sandsquall – now also blast finisher
  • Make some cool warhorn skins

Traits:

  • Minor 1: Added Overloads granting superspeed while channeling.
  • Minor 2: Now instead grants protection when you gain swiftness or superspeed. 10 sec cd.
  • Minor 3: Now instead heals you (for a minor amount) whenever you gain a boon.
  • Unstable Conduit: Now grants the aura when you start overloading instead of when you finish the cast. Now also reduces Overload cooldowns by 20%.
  • Latent Stamina: Reworked – Now you gain a boon and some heal if your overload is interrupted: Fire: Retalation, Water: Vigor, Air: Fury, Earth: Aegis.
  • Gale song: No change.
  • Tempestuous Aria – Now also reduces the recharge of shouts by 20%.
  • Harmonious Conduit: Reworked – Now gain stacking bonus to you stats each 2 (or 3 maybe?) sec when you stay in an attunement. Maximum 5 stacks. Resets on changing attunement. Fire – power, water – healing, air – precision, earth – toughness
  • Earthen Proxy: Reworked – Now instead gives you retaliation when you gain protection.
  • Elemental Bastion: Now casts an instant Flash-Freeze when hit below 75% instead of giving a frost aura. 30 seconds cd. Auras still heals allies.
  • Lucid Singularity: Reworked – Now instead grants you retaliation, aegis and protection after staying in an attunement for 10 seconds. 20ish second cooldown, per attunement. Remove the 1st movement-impeding condition while overloading.
  • Imbued Melodies: Now also gain 1 stack of might per ally stun breaked by you.

1. Tempest (Overall): 2
2. Traits: 2
3. Warhorn: 3
4. Overloads: 1
5. Healing Skill: 3
6. Utilities: 2
7. Elite Skill: 1 (The worst skill ever, hope it’s a joke )
8. Animations & sound effects: 2-3 (Not the worst, but chrono wells or reaper’s shroud + gs are far far better)
Edit: for animations 2 rather than 3. Sorry, but overloads are just too rediculous

Fire Island Chain, Crystall Desert and GW1

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Avador.8934

We will possibly see places like the Fire Islands, Crystal Desert, etc, in future expansions, though I expect it’ll be years before we get them all.
Just think, so far from what we’ve seen the first expack is bringing Verdant Brink.
Not the whole maguuma jungle, just the Verdant Brink (whose name indicates its the edge or beginning of the jungle)
Could there be more zones they haven’t even hinted at? sure, but I don’t consider it likely at this point.

So if it’s going to take multiple expansions (or an expansion and a year or two of Living Story) to maybe finish opening up a single new complete area (maguuma), it’s going to take a long time to build out to Crystal Desert, Fire Island, Elona, sniff Cantha…

I am sure we’ll get more than 1 new zone in HoT

Race for a revenant?

in Revenant

Avador.8934

I currently have 2 sylvari (necro, ranger), 1 norn (war), 1 asura (ele main), 1 charr (engi) and 3 humans (mesmer, thief and guard). I am sure I don’t want more salads or norns, and Rytlock as rev is enough for me, so it’s battle between asura and human. If I decide for human I’ll probably replace my guard human with asura. Result will depends on asura’s animations. But I am 100% sure it’ll be male.

Ele down state/skills balance suggestions

in Elementalist

Posted by: Avador.8934

Avador.8934

downed build incoming

note: I think that ele’s downed state is ok (maybe needs more dmg at skill 1, but nothing else) Actually ability to move while downed can help you a lot. In teamfights it is really useful because your allies, as stated above, can ress you much easier. Also there’s almost 100% chance that you succesfully evade 1st stomp attempt, which professions like War, Guard, Ranger etc. can’t say because of stability, blocks, invulnerability, etc.

Future X-Pacs and Specializations

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Avador.8934

Avador.8934

I am really excited about HoT (exept the Tempest). So I am curious what next specializations and other things will offer.

Hoewer if there’s something I want to come later, it’s this:
- New playable race (I really want to play Tengu)
- New large parts of world to explore. Really want to see how Crystal desert, lands above Divinity’s Reach, Blood Legion Homelands, etc. looks like. Or how Cantha/Elona changed. (I am a type of person who wants to explore everything)
- New weapon types
- New elite specializations
- New great story (Like LS season 2 which was great)
- Better underwater combat
- New dungeons (Or reworked old dungeons)

I am just used to think far to the future. For that specializations I also really want to see Ele getting new attunement or something I posted here (down, if it’s till there).

Eye of the storm needs extra effects because kitten cd stunbreak and super speed is terrible.

Eye of the Storm is actually one of the very few things that is not terrible.

A sad truth suddenly hit me.......

I really hope that this new break will not be again 2 months.

Maybe they are reworking Tempest after that fiasco.

Or maybe we’ll get new elite spec this week, just without teaser. (They decided to not make videos, so maybe they decided to not make teasers too). Who knows.
