Are you looking for why the GW1 or GW2 version was created?
First of all these is RNG.
Second of all there are rumours of lucky accounts.I think these lucky accounts are due to the fact that RNG, isnt really RNG, because how can you get a program to randomly select a number.
You cant you use an algorithm. The problem with algorithms is that there is a pattern, even if you cannot see one.So these lucky accounts could be set within account IDs which put then in a group of accounts which are more favoured in the RNG system anet uses.
Hence why you have some players who have played since launch and not seen a single precursor, whilst a trail account might have got one within minutes.
There isn’t such thing is some accounts getting stuck lucky. Yes there’s an RNG, yes it’s random and there are streaks and outliers and an even aggregate distribution.

Can you confirm whether it is an RNG that uses some sort of value from the user’s account or whether it is purely random/session based? I have a friend who swears that smack-talking an anet dev during a beta weekend pvp match doomed his account to poor rng for life.
Absolutely it does not use anything to do with a user.

Magic Find’s usefulness is debatable. I personal see no value in it for very rare drops as 400% MF on something that has a 0.00001% drop rate won’t be noticeable.
I have been playing since launch on my main account, i got 300% mf and recently started a ftp account with no account mf. The difference in droprate of rare items and mats is huge in my opinion, i get more rare gear than white gear on my main account, not so much on my ftp account.
I wasn’t specifically referring to the rarity category but rather the actual rarity of the items themselves such as precursors. Having maxed MF will make very little difference for something that has a very low drop rate compared to something that has a much higher rate.
A percentual increase in drop rate raises a low droprate as much as a high one, thats basic math.
Take a drop rate of 0.01% and increase it five fold. So you’re telling me that it’s basic math that the increase is significant and noticeable?
Yes, because on average, it would give me a drop 5 times faster.
So a drop rate of 0.000000000000000000000000000000001% increasing by five fold is still significant and noticeable because it will get you the drop five times faster?

I think a lot of this is generalization.
But the butterfly inspiration would be interesting to hear about. It’s my favorite animation for my Mesmer. ^.^
I’ve seen people bring up the butterfly effect but I haven’t seen anything specifically from Anet.
Hello Tyrians,
I was wondering where did the inspiration for the Mesmer start? Why are Mesmers ( Human Mesmers mostly), so into high fashion, the arts, and beauty? Who designed the concept, from the combat style, to the lore? Who had such a vision? Why the butterflies?
If anyone at Arena Net ( Cough Cough, Robert Gee) or anyone else could answer this post for me that would be great. I’am a huge fan of the Mesmer, and I’ve mained the profession since GW2 began!

Mesmers have been around since GW1.

I’m not sure if there’s anything dedicated specifically to their lore.

In general, voice actors in video games do not get royalties. I personally find it a little ridiculous that they’re demanding it considering what they contribute compared to everyone else involved in making games such as, you know, those that work directly for the game companies and have a personal stake in the end product.
You both make excellent points. Armor and such is a item thing so it would be nice but not necessary its mainly STORY is what i want it for, im still undecided on HoT but i have been playing with friends (and kitten engineer is a hard class to learn)
So i might get it but i guess with that red exclamation mark on it i have very little time to decide to get it on special
Be aware that you can do the story instances if you’re in a party with someone that has those episodes unlocked. You don’t need to pay if that’s all that you want and you have someone that would run you through the episodes.
I’m pretty sure everything has already been completed for HoT so this won’t impact it.
It’s a beta, not a demo. They have us test various things that can then be applied to the other maps.
Hasn’t worked for me either, however over recent months I have been practically living in spvp because I have played the base game aspects so much without reward that it just doesn’t seem worth it. I would rather have fun and be challenged by other players.
To your point, people are farming Silverwastes, doing fractals and WvW and skipping PVE completely because of this loot problem.
Silverwastes and fractals are PvE.
Silverwastes are in fact PVE that behaves more like a dungeon. Fractals are dungeons. I think you missed the larger point though.
They’re still PvE. Maybe you should be more specific in regards to whatever point you were trying to make.
That doesn’t even take into account how they intentionally took a lot of the goodies (like dyes and black lion keys) out to favor the gem store.
You keep saying this, but it’s still not true. Keys still drop, just at an extremely low rate.
As a side note, dyes don’t drop from plants or anything anymore, but they do still drop from PS/LS reward bags (Bags of Loot).
I don’t know for certain if there’s an infinitesimal chance at a black lion key. As far as I am concerned, I’ll believe it when I see it. I’ve seen zero and I play quite a bit.
Drop rate for keys hasn’t changed since launch unless you count the supposed increase they announced recently. While you can’t get dyes from drops, you can get them from laurel merchants more reliably although you’re still better off selling T6 you get from laurels and buying the specific dye directly.
I had expeceted to see some kind of roadmap with PAX but apparently that was not the plan. A shame really but hey the better for us to speculate a bit.
They may not do that again because of the last time they had done that and people flipped out when plans changed. They also like to minimize spoilers.
It doesn’t look random to me. I do regular tutorial dungeon runs. My loot is probably worse that it was when I started out around lvl 50.
At the same time two separate relative noobs have walked away with precursors.
I’ve invested obscene amounts in Mystic Forge. On one occasion I spent 30K dungeon tokens on weapons and dumped them in, getting primarily yellows back.
I want to know if my drops have been inhibited and if so, why.
It is random. The reason it doesn’t appear that way is because you’re taking your own observations and applying it towards what some other people have also seen. Not to mention that the same size you’re using is very small.
You need to realize that the drop rate is very very low for precursors. Every player has the same chance of getting a precursor to drop as the next person. This isn’t taking into account whatever benefit MF hapoens to give which is fairly minimal towards very rare drops. When determining if something is random, you have to apply it across the entire playerbase otherwise your results or conclusion is unreliable.

I have the same computer for the last 2 years… I also have more then enough knowledge to know it’s not me, it’s Arenanet. Please stop bullcrapping me. I don’t want your opinions, I just hope someone from the development team reads this so they can look back and analyze what’s wrong, not me. I am also serious about Arenanet to stop with HOT and fix the core game first (dungeon bugs, PvP mmr, lags, etc).
-.-
Why do you keep dodging the question then? The problem can very well be on your end. If you’re unwilling to provide info then how can you expect to receive help?
Anet doesn’t punish players by reducing drops unless they hit DR. It’s been stated by Anet that players rarely hit that.
Magic Find’s usefulness is debatable. I personal see no value in it for very rare drops as 400% MF on something that has a 0.00001% drop rate won’t be noticeable.
The entire system is working as intended. Sure there will be those outliers that have multiple amazing drops back to back or those players that get a rare drop with minimal time invested in the game. All of which is very probable when taking into account the entire player base. One thing you’ll have to realize is that the amount of AP that you have, or how many hours that you have played, have no direct correlation with your chance to get a very rare drop such as a precursor.
They have access to minions. The elite specialization just doesn’t use them.
I recently did world completion on 3 characters. I never had an issue. One time the assault event was just starting. The other two I got it completed by doing the defend event which starts every 8-9 min. I can’t remember exactly but it’s around that interval. I completed it in 1-2 defense events.
Has anyone noted any third party articles yet today? It could be they won’t be following the usual reveal pattern because they want people watching TwitchCon, but there’s still a chance one of the sites will have a Wednesday article with screenshots etc.
I certainly hope we get a blog tomorrow.
Just wait for IGN to leak something.
Problem:
Huge lag since F2P patch (mostly in PvP).
Solution:
Stop with HOT and fix the core game instead.
PS: No I don’t have a bad connection neither a computer from the stone age…
What are the stats for your computer?
What settings do you have enabled?
No just No
Why you want to give every company all your personal IDs and more
creepy world
im not really against companies having my personal info, they cant really do much to me by having all my information
If i have nothing to hide , i dont mind them having my info
You’re assuming that those companies’ systems are secure. If they’re hacked, your info is likely compromised.
Not everyone has access to credit cards. Anet can’t see credit card info. A lot of people do not want their info stored. Pre-paid credit cards don’t really show up any differently from what I have seen compared to regular credit cards.
I know, other than it proves it’s still there and the rumor that it broke due to an updated physics engine is likely false.
I thought it did the opposite and proved it to be true.
Seeing this blue box on the upper level of Rata Sum.

The blue color is likely caused by a distortion as it appears that the screenshot was taken from a camera phone from what looks like a downward angle.
plenty of food feast and armor box recipes have not been made yet, or at least not been on the TP yet and i dont think all transformation potions have been discovered either.
I’m going to go out on a limb and say all armor box recipes have been discovered.
personally, I have every single one unlocked (346 of them).Does 1 armor profession have 1 more than the other 2?
lol! good catch. that number was just counting how many recipes in the api I found. ummm, looks like armorsmith has 116 while tailor and leatherworker each have 115. I’ll look for what extra item armorsmith has…
Maybe undiscovered recipes arent in the API? That focus that JS made a scavenger hunt for wasnt in the API either before it was discovered….
You sure? People found posts about it as early as 2012.
Here’s one from 2013.

About Reaper of Sould or Eternal Sands, which I was talking about?
The question was directed at you asking whether undiscovered recipes are in the API.
Considering I asked the same question in the post you quoted I dont know what kind of answer you expect…
The question I had before the edit. I had missed the question mark and read it as if you were stating it as a fact.

I provided the link because it was in the API since at least 2013; before John did the scavenger hunt. Eternal Sands was a new item from the living story as the one item could only be obtained from the SW chests.

This is like asking Anet to add features or whatever for my difficulty using the game controls because my fingers are stiff since it’s 0 degrees in my house and I do not have the heat turned on.
Accessibility issues are important to address, or at least consider, but only if they’re something the player themselves cannot resolve or if it’s something the player is not causing to themselves.

What I would love is for the 20 and 30 scrolls be usable at any time to get those levels. Levels 1-10 go fast anyway, but why should it be worth more to a level 2 than a level 19?
They should award no more than the amount of XP that it would take to get to whatever level they are listed to do. It takes about 116K XP to get to level 20 so those level 20 scrolls should give no more than that. They also of course should remain useable only by those below level 80.

3. The second picture in this thread looks nothing like the thing in the initial post either.
The text above that second image says to look at the textures. The actual weapon models themselves may not be the same between the two games.
This change was months ago. Some people brought it up, Anet explained why they did it, and no points have been reset since then.
Do you remember what the explanation was or have a link to it ?
I’m curious why they went with trying to match a players build instead of giving everyone a reset.
Finally found it.

How do you know it’s really not celestial as it looks similar to those from GW1?
You know, maybe that was the plan all along with removing the key farm. Celestial was a very popular set. I’m sure people will be lining up to buy keys to get their hands on one of those skins.
This change was months ago. Some people brought it up, Anet explained why they did it, and no points have been reset since then.
Once you get to level 80, the problem disappears.
But between now and then, there’s a big problem.
You can do hero challenges to get more hero points to buy the traits/abilities that you do not have.
Unfortunately they won’t reset your hero points. Out of all of the people that complained about it last time, I don’t remember seeing a single one say that Anet reset their points for them.

I figured that if they’d release the remaining crafts to 500, they wouldn’t tell us. I have a suspicion they they won’t use jeweler for trinkets and such but maybe for legendary armor. Just speculation.
There’s only one title per class and that’s the Champion title.
Yep, you’re right. For some reason I was registering achievements and titles as the same thing.
What could you possibly fill 12 bank tabs with?
Anything and everything that doesn’t allow stacking.
The question was more along the line of how and why someone would need that much space unless they were a serious hoarder (ignoring items being held as investments).
Investing is a major impact on this. So are items like Black Lion Salvage kits. You get even more than 1 of these and you are losing space somewhere. Get 50+ and then its even worse. Let alone if you are acquiring material for mas crafting or other activities. And yes then there is the junk or siege or boosters…fills up fast.
There are people that hold onto items that they’ll likely never use.
My guess is that it’s a mentality brought over from other games, to some extent.
GW1 for example- you’d have plenty more bank panes/slots as standard than in GW2, which allowed for such hoarding. Moreover, other games may not have such a quick and efficient trading post. So if you merched that stuff, it might be really difficult to buy back what I sold previously.
The TP is the reason why I don’t hoard too much tradeable stuff. I know that it doesn’t matter if I sell it now, as I can just re-buy it and get it almost instantaneously. I might lose out on a small % of gold, but for me that’s worth de-cluttering my bank. In addition to this, there might be a chance that I won’t need that stuff again, which means I’ve de-cluttered AND netted some useful gold.
Of course, I wouldn’t sell anything that I believed to have some kind of investment value.
Guild Wars 1 only has 160 slots (8 panes x 20slots) and 36 material slots. They did release one more pane for the 4th year anniversary, but I don’t think you can get it now.
They made it so you can get it during the annual anniversary event.
You can expect two titles for Revenant though.
Two?
One for wins in general and the other for wins in rated matches.
Correction: Only one title

There are a few obscure weapon skins that aren’t available (or only available through weird ways).
E.g. there are two versions of the Etched Shortbow (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Etched_Short_Bow_ ) and the staves “Primitive Pillar” and “Destroyer Staff” aren’t available in game.
But then Tribal Armour was also a discontinued PvP set, too… and I highly doubt that that one would be available through the mystic forge :P
There’s also whatever is listed below where you did name a couple. I doubt anyone would care about the underwater skins so perhaps the only other one could be that shield assuming there was an option to have it in PvE before rather than only PvP. .
1) No. The restriction is there for a reason. Removing it will just exacerbate the problem.
Sure there are reasons but as the OP points out it isn’t actually doing its job.
2) You pull them away from their spawn point and fight them near the edge of their leash range. That’s your own fault. There is a certain abomination boss in Arah where I have seen people do exactly this and cause it to leash back. None of the bosses will reset when you’re fighting well within their leash range unless you do something to lose aggro such as stealth or on somewhere that it cannot path to.
1) Attempt to commune for a skill challenge
2) champion risen knight teleports on top
3) attempt to kill the champion risen knight
4) knight uses charge attack that leaves trail of fire
5) knight leashes itself and resets to full HPmy fault for trying to solve the problem with violence?
3) It’s been awhile since I’ve run Arah but some enemies do have long leashes with blink skills. Just look at nobles.
What I have in mind involves mobs walking through walls …
Then it should be fixed so it does do its job properly. We have laws that don’t always work as effectively as intended so should they just be removed because of that (out of game example)? And how do you know it’s not doing its job? There may be some cases where it needs to be adjusted to compensate for what the code misses.
I’ve never had that issue in Malchor’s Leap.
Walking through walls is a new one and not something I personally have seen. It sounds more like a bug that should be reported as the enemies should follow their pathing. .
(edited by Ayrilana.1396)
The instances will be the story but they will likely do something similar to what they did with Drytop and SW so there’s things to do in the open world.
