Why is this game called GUILD WARS 2?

The guild in Guild Wars isn’t the guild that you’re thinking of. This was actually the three nations (Orr, Kryta, Ascalon) which fought against each other prior to the events of GW1.

We never received Spirit Shards for leveling. We did, however, receive a Skill Point until those were split up into Spirit Shards and Hero Points. At that time, we received nothing for leveling past L80 until HoT was released.

Yep. We were told we would be receiving spirit shards, but that didn’t actually happen (and the xp bar kept advancing, even if it didn’t do anything). I guess that’s where this misconception comes in.

We were never told that we would be receiving spirit shards from leveling. We were told that they would drop from enemies which is true as I have seen it happen occasionally. They also still drop from containers.

I’m totaly agree with the author!

Classic GW2 – it’s a realy good game. But HoT – just terrible. for the same money I could buy new fallout and a half of witcher! But i spend it for HoT.
AND WHAT I GOT?
I’m even cant get new specializations, beacause i never liked jumping puzzles – so this crazy new maps just… unplayable for me.
I’m still sit in LA with my old build! I got nothin! even more than nothin – I got a headache. I want try new builds in a fractal, but i cant! I dont understand why.
Why annet force me to do stupid jumping puzzles. I just want play NORMAL PvE and PvP.
HoT – real waste of money…

If you’re on a US server, message me. I’ll show you how to unlock the elite specialization. It won’t take nearly as long as you think, particularly if you have some hero points in core Tyria already.

They likely already unlocked it. The person above you necro’d the thread.

How to balance Amalgamated Gemstones?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Ayrilana.1396

Ayrilana.1396

A stack of amalgamated now costs 250 more gold that it used when i created this topic, its becoming painful.

That’s because threads like these are creating a scare and causing people to buy them up. You also have those intentionally taking advantage of this to make a profit and could also be contributing by buying up large quantities in order to jack up the price. Some of those complaining and very vocal about this issue (purely speculation) could be the ones attempting to profit.

Edit: I just checked the prices. Back when this thread was created, the buy price for amalgamated gemstones was 2.74G and the sell price was 2.94G. Currently the crafting cost to make it is 2.96G. Just craft them.

5k AP requirement for level 32 fractal

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Ayrilana.1396

Ayrilana.1396

Judging by AP makes no sense. A player who has 7k AP but quit in 2013 and recently came back to play is just as inexperienced as someone with 200 AP. Or there’s me for example, I don’t give a crap about achievements in any game, I only have 5600 AP but I’ve been playing GW2 since beta and I’m an experienced player. I want to punch everyone in the face who uses AP to judge people. I always start my own parties and type “ALL welcome except for elitists!”

They’ll have a much lower learning curve when coming back compared to the brand new player.

As far as the difference, let me explain it this way. Let’s assume that we have Player A and Player B. Player A has played Elder Scrolls games for years and has even amazed a total of 2,000 hours playing both Morrowind and Oblivion. Player B has never played an Elder Scrolls game. Let’s also assume that this is the only difference between the two players. Skyrim comes out. Who do you think is going to player better?

Amassing 5K+ AP takes time regardless as to whether you get it strictly from dailies or not. During this time you would likely have done things in GW2. That’s kind of obvious. You’ll have gained a basic understanding of the game which is something that a new player may or may not have right away.

A drop in players?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Ayrilana.1396

Ayrilana.1396

IMHO: Season 1 temp content was a bad idea.

Changing the world slowly is cool like blowing up lions arch, but having a whole plot arch be temp was dumb. It was cool for players at the time, but terrible on the longterm, as anyone could have guessed.

Season 2 is just a way to prevent players from coming back by locking the interconnecting plot arch between Zhaitan and Mordremoth behind micro transactions. Still not as kitteneason 1 for long term game health.

Yes. If they should have just released 12 (or so) new PvE maps (based on the core game) and a continuation of the personal story line at about the 1 1/2" year mark, with more expansions to follow.

Changing the game to a platform-format took it in the wrong direction.

Edit: and killing Lions Arch for as long as they did was a huge mistake. That used to be a central meeting place to advertise your guild, recruit others, etc.

If they had done 12 maps like the core maps then we’d still be in the same situation we are now.

GW2 had platforming since release. Jumping puzzles required it as well as many many vistas. The new maps don’t require any more platforming than the old one. The only difference being that some HoT maps have multiple layers as opposed to just one.

Ayrilana.1396

We have a couple guild members that have over 15k AP who have never stepped foot in fractals. AP is in no way a judge of experience or skill.

It shows experience with the game in general. It is of course in no way a measure of skill.

It measures experience within the game. Does it measure skill level? No.

Some players try to filter out what they perceive would be bad players and AP is one such filter. To be honest, in most cases it doesn’t matter. The time spent trying to get the right players would likely outweigh any time saved. I can see the merits in filtering out players as I did spend 2 hours doing Arah P1 one night having to explain how to do it.

Generally, if you don’t like people filtering who they want in their groups, just ignore them. You can still create your own group that accepts anybody.

i agree with this, if i hit 15k limit and this is not changed I WILL QUIT, there will be literally NO REASON to continue playing if i cant get any more AP

And this is the other side of it. There will be some players that just stop playing when they can’t get more APs from dailies.
Since no new player can catch up to veterans (that still keep playing, and actually did the achievements for the removed content), theres no point in having the cap. And finishing the three dailies can take less than 5 minutes.

It does. It prevents the gap from getting larger. At the moment, the only gap is from achievements that are no longer available. As these veteran players stop playing, existing players will move up as they complete new, permanent achievements. If the cap were removed then new players starting out a year from now would be 3,660 AP further from active veteran players on top of the missed historical AP.

Crystalline Ore?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Ayrilana.1396

Ayrilana.1396

You won’t have enough keys to get 30-40 per run if you only play DS.
You have to play other 3 maps to get currency to buy more keys. So the total time you spent to acquire your leadership rune is still pretty much the same.

You can get more than 1 ore from a pod. The wiki lists quantities of 1, 3, 10, 14, and possibly 25. If you get 12 keys then the range you can get is from 12 to 168 (ignoring the 25) per run. Obviously average results will be skewed towards the lower end rather tha the higher.

As far as keys go, they’re 5 currency from each of the other three maps. AB and TD can net you 120 currency in the 15 min it takes to do the meta or 45 minutes total for both if you include the 15 min for challenges. You can get the same in VB during night cycle. It’s really no different than farming VW in SW for currency and converting it to keys to farm chests.

I do want to make one clarification as I may have been misleading. The 40 ore average is from all pods in the bonus areas. I want to say that I got close to 100 one time but it’s been so long since I actually farmed DS as I have no immediate use for ore.

Except Anet gave multiple reasons why they added the cap.

Which is subject to change based on feedback, like many decisions they make. Nothing is set in stone. I disagree with their conclusions, they after consideration/feedback might also believe the cap serves no purpose any more at this point.

And not having the cap would only make it worse.

I love this logic, having a cap means NEVER being able to catch up – exactly what is worse than NEVER? I’d love to see your explanation.

If there wasn’t a cap then the players that were ahead would continue to earn AP. New players would never be able to catch up to them as they could never make up for the gap in daily AP.

The daily AP cap and historical AP are two entirely separate issues.

No actually they aren’t. Without a cap a player has to keep playing to earn new APs and stay ahead otherwise other players catch up. On the current situation, Players who have “retired” remain ahead forever with all other things being the same.

I also note that you didn’t explain your logic on how something is worse than never.

A player that has retired will not stay ahead forever whether there is or isn’t a cap.

If the cap were removed, the gap will just get wider between existing players and new players. If you get 10 AP per day, that’s 300 AP per month. A player starting a month from today will now have an additional gap of 300 AP if there were no cap. This increases exponentially each month on top of any other AP that is seasonal.

For existing players, the gap will still exist. Among active players, the daily AP cap will create zero movement and the gap will remain unchanged. For “retired” players, that gap is going to shorten regardless to whether the cap was present or not.

1000th place, the lowest spot shown on the board, is currently over 25K points. The top is ~7K higher than that. There are over 5K “historical” points no longer available. Even with the cap, the only way you’re going to see any movement remotely close to the top of the board is if those players quit or ANet stops adding AP. Are we really worried about new players getting <10K points closer to the board, but never appearing?

All of which really have nothing to do with the cap. If the players do not quit, you’re not going to make any progress. If Anet keeps adding AP, the progress in reducing the gap isn’t going to happen.

However if people want to reach rewards quicker, just have Anet add more living story events like in season 1. Most of the content was through achievements. Everyone wins.

So what if they can’t catch them though? So few will care about that – players most just want the rewards. Let those at the top run away with the rewards or compete aginst themselves for the top of the table. Everyone else likely just wants shinies.

Cap or no cap, no one is ever going to catch those at the top unless they stop playing and if they do, only removing the cap will help shorten the gap.

For the other reasons that Anet gave which have been referenced in this thread. There was no singular reason why they capped daily AP.

Please never remove the daily AP limit. It is an important milestone for an account and serves as an upper threshold so that new players have something attainable with immense effort so that they can compete with other older veterans on the AP leaderboard.

See, you just proved one of my points, you can NEVER compete, because they have APs from events long retired that you can never get.

People don’t understand the necessity of Ascended gear. This grind is not optional IF, and a big if here.

If you play in WvW. Who in their right mind would want to play WvW at a disadvantage? You might think "wel it doesnt make much difference because people zerg etc etc.

No! it does make a difference especially if roam a lot. It’s like disgusting thinking that you could lose because of your gear. Now skill wins most of the time. But think about those close calls, think about those wars of attrition. Sooner or later ascended gives you an advantage. Maybe not in some mindless zerg train. But there are times.

If you have a single competitive bone in your body and you like playing WvW you have to get ascended.

For the rest of the pve wise, its not that important. Maybe if there were damage meters or something like that then maybe.

I have the blessing of only Playing one class Primarily, I hate to think of the poor guy who runs all the classes.

Luckily ascended trinkets and backpacks are easy to obtain. There’s a cost for ascended weapons but it’s not really that bad. Armor only provides about a 2% DPS boost so can easily be ignored.

I was expecting something within the next few weeks but looks like I may be wrong. The next major update won’t be until April. This is assuming that they’re only operating on one release schedule.

Just wanted to quickly pop in over lunch break and pass along while there are things we love about the HoT open world map experience; there are also things we felt either weren’t successful, or didn’t align with the over-all vision for Gw2.

We said this a week or two ago, but it’s always good to reinforce that cleaning up those areas is one of the major focuses for our spring seasonal update in April. Many of the things folks call out in this thread as areas we can improve are the kind of things we’re hoping to resolve. We’ll discuss more once we’re got a better idea of what will make it in, but I just wanted to quickly point out we’re also aware and working towards some resolutions.

Possible LFG improvement in April too in regards to additional channels (guess).

Love the short term problem solving – wish it was easier for us to to do a quick short term fix. (sadly nothing with LFG is easy or quick)

I did want to quickly point out the team is aware of the recent discussions around things that aren’t working (or missing) from LFG and have it included in the list of “resolving outstanding issues” that is our goal for the spring update in April.

Not entirely sure what will actually make it yet LFG wise since it’s all in development – we’ll give more details once we’re sure.

consider a bit time it was posted. A year ago. 6 months before HoT was released. Chance that they will actually do what they said about “having plans” is very low now.

Even though this will initially replace the existing Borderlands, we have plans to bring back the classic alpine Borderlands. More information on that will come in the future.

The plans were clearly about rotating the old maps when HoT maps were released, and those plans have been scrapped long ago.

Provide a source that those plans have been scrapped.

HoT has only been out for 3.5 months so whether this announcement was a year ago isn’t relevant. It doesn’t have an expiration date.

Revenue from pre-sales generally aren’t recorded as revenue until it is realized. It’s usually booked under an account such as deferred revenue since it’s technically a liability.

I agree, but these days ‘generally’ is a big subjective word.

Many companies will realize revenue when they want it to hit rather than when it should. Ethics in this area is very fluid these days. This is true particularly of larger companies.

And accounting regulations are quite strict to avoid exactly that situation and ensure the financial results are understandable to stakeholders.

And you believe companies adhere to those regulations? You believe they don’t find ways around them or ways to circumvent them? Curious.

I am in no ways saying ANet or NCSoft does that, but many companies do. To think otherwise is naive. Watch the news.

Suggest you read up on public companies and their requirements.

And I suggest you come to grips on how many of those public companies skirt or circumvent those requirements.

I am an accountant and have worked at two of those publicly traded companies. “Reporting Requirements” are many times up for interpretation and manipulated. I left both companies because of their unethical dealings with “requirements.”

So if some people mug other people then we should just assume that everyone will potentially mug each other? Just because some companies allegedly fudge numbers doesn’t mean that everyone else does. Unless you can provide proof that Anet/NCSoft are doing that, I see no point in you bringing up that accusation.

Apparently you didn’t read my quoted earlier post. I stated that I wasn’t saying I believed ANet or NCSoft were like that. I didn’t accuse anyone of anything. Maybe you should read everything involved before making accusations of your own.

Saw it after the post. Deleted my post as I didn’t want to get back into this argument.

And the legendarys are the only real high Goldsink for ANET since the start of the game.

If you haven’t noticed the problem with what your stating…you basing the dollar value which has long been weighted against the worth of gold to something that has no defined weight or value.

Hence your analogy is bunk.

I don’t remember having any issues there. The enemies should be on something like a two minute respawn timer. It’s likely that you’re set up to defensive and cannot kill them quick enough. I am confused those how a level 80 enemy could be there when it’s nowhere near that level of a zone.

For a game that "isn't grindy"...

I want to know where anyone got the idea Guild Wars wasn’t grindy?

Like any game, you can of course just arbitrarily stop trying to move forward and pretend the grind isn’t there waiting for you and beckoning to you, but if you’re after a fully empowered character you’re looking at an ocean of grind. May the Six Gods help you if you take it into your head that you want some particular and popular cosmetic frippery to go with that optimal set of stats. There’s 5 million accounts and every one of them is ready to pay more gold than you ever wanted to look at for that skin you thought might be nice, be it one of the 150,000-to-1 drops or the just the components you need for the most Legendaries. The competition is fierce and well funded.

I don’t think that anyone is arguing that there isn’t a grind. It seems more along the lines that it isn’t required and nowhere near as bad as many other games.

Deldrimor Ingots, Elonian Leather, and Spiritwood Planks still have good profit margins since you need them for precursors.

My take on the three different fractals for the daily was just to change it to three unique fractal maps rather than by fractal level. If they’ve done swamp then it won’t count again.

In the end it’s not that big of a deal to me as I can just create a LFG if I want to do something different that swamp. I actually did fractals (52-54) the other day because I wanted to do something different.

Make sure you include TP fees (both of them) when accounting for whether something is profitable. Damask bolts also have been fluctuating between being worth crafting and not.
