The final instance can easily be done solo with any class. The only exception is if you run into any of the bugs that make it harder, or impossible, to do. In some cases, not even having a full group would help.

OK, so how do I select the “bugged story instance” vs the “no bug story instance”? I have been playing since a month after release, I didn’t realize you could choose bugged or not bugged. Do I dodge at the same time has entering the instance? I am such a dummy. Those 5 bugged attempts… a couple hours of completely wasted time… if I had only known…

And yes you can solo the final story instance. that is if you want spend at least an hour doing basically the same things over and over and over and over and over and over and over… First suck your bad friends into the void using the same mechanic, then do the same thing again with mordy and all his aoe condies, then hope your glider opens and continue to do the same thing until you drain the massive HP sponge that looks kinda like a small Godzilla aka Mordy the HP sponge. I did that instance solo ONCE. Never again, I wouldn’t wish that overly long very tedious repetitive garbage on ANYONE.

Always get friends or pugs to help do Hearts and Minds if you value your sanity and wish to avoid carpal tunnel syndrome.

It takes me about 30 minutes to solo the instance. I’ve done the story instance at least 15 times and only ran into bugs for 3 of them with one time being impossible to proceed. It’s random as to whether it will bug or not which is probably why it has taken so long for Anet to find a fix.

What is the purpose of precursor collections?

In my experience, the system is terrible. One of the many black marks against HoT.

I did the first tier for Dawn. Colossal waste of time. A lot of WP-ing around the world and standing around waiting for specific events to spawn. Events I’ve done dozens of times before. Often waiting 20-30 minutes for events that last no more than a minute, if that. It was one of the most boring things I’ve done in this game.

It would be a fine system at launch, in august 2012, when everything involved with it would’ve been new and exiting. Now? It’s a dreadful bore, waiting around to repeat content I’ve chewed all the flavor out of long ago.

And then I saw the materials required to continue. I laughed, and bought Dawn on the TP. 650 gold at the time.

What’s a good general rule for buying precursors off the TP? trying to help a friend craft twilight but debating on buying dusk or crafting it. And I mean putting up buy orders really.

Figure out how much it would take to craft the precursor using buy orders for the materials. Subtract that cost from the typical buy order price for the precursor. If the result is positive, divide it by how much gold you can typically earn within an hour. This gives you the number of hours you would need to complete the collections to break even. If it will take you more then you’re better off getting the precursor on a guy order.

Fewer Outfits More Clothes

The reason that you see more outfits than armor is probably because outfits are easier and quicker to make. Rather than designing 30 variations, they only need to do 10.

That said, I’m not against new armor skin sets.

Many of us warned on this forum about the scam that represented this dlc. Given the flop in all areas of the game and the poor sales, many chose to not buy it and to quit playing gw2.

It’s not a scam. All information was available weeks before the expansion went live. Those that pre-ordered well before then made the choice to purchase based on what information they had at the time. If what the expansion contained was worth the price to them then they bought it. If not, they didn’t. Nobody was forced or tricked into buying the expansion.

There’s also not enough information to call the expansion a flop or to say if there have been poor sales. The earliest that we would know would be in about two weeks.

Thank you for destroying the revenants profession aka thanks for nothing Arena Net

They had to and it was clear from the start. They have to take a lot from other classes as well but somehow hesitate – probably because of PvE players.
I have once been one as well and I don’t really like changes anyway – there was a lot I found stupid while I was a strict PvE player. Then I started wvw and started to understand why balance is neccessary. I have done dungeons and/or fractals on nearly any class there is, not Revenant but all other 8, and never had any problems although I barely smash buttons on most. that’s why I think that PvE doesn’t need balance that much. Of course no class should be unwelcome anywhere, so all of them have to be nearly equally strong. And revenant (and others) have been a bit too strong.

But I do agree that in least wvw power revenant isn’t that easy to play if you’re not a backliner in a zerg.

PvE needed (need?) balance though. You can see 5 rev in some raids video, I don’t think playing a class that much is called balance, and raids are PvE.

I saw a raid video with 10 guardians. Does that mean something needs to be done? Just because some people choose to run specific classes does not necessarily mean that there are balance issues.

Those 10 guardians did it to prove a point…but maybe you are not getting that.

What most are debating is that Pve and sPvP had certain classes represented more because of their lack of balance. Numbers are numbers. Who cares really about the fringe who do something just because. It doesn’t make it the norm. So no, we won’t be seeing 10 guardians clearing a wing becoming the new meta.

I know why they did it. You’re missing the point that I was making. Just because you see more people playing a particular class doesn’t necessarily mean that it is out of balance. A lot of people are playing Rev because it is new.

Rev is still more efficient than guardian in raids, even if it’s new. Why bother with a guardian that you have to clic X buttons when you can do way more support & damage with a rev doing almost nothing?
A lot of players play rev because it’s in the META for everything (before the balance patch at least). If rev was bad you will see not much rev during raids session, pretty much like thief and guardian.

And if blocks/reflects were needed, guardian would have a more prominent role in raids. Every class has its pros and cons. Just because the raids at the moment have an optimal configuration of classes, doesn’t mean that there are balance issues.

You can’t feasibly make every class balanced to the point that they’re all optimal in every situation. What matters is their viability which it has been demonstrated that every class is viable within raids. Meta builds at created by very few players and do not necessarily determine balance. One exception to that being with burnzerkers which got toned down to be on par with condi engineers more or less.

I don’t see how they are not understaffet. Most of the new legendary weapons arent even out. The legendary armor isn’t out. Look at WvW, it’s a mess. The new maps doesen’t even fit into the map design. Look’s like everthyng is rushed out without a 2nd look.

You saw the issues that they had with the precursor collections. They are likely making sure that the collections work properly and that there are no issues with the events involved (e.g. Being required to fail an event).

WvW wasn’t the main focus on the expansion as well as PvP. Yea, they added the stronghold and a new WvW map but that’s it. It’s not about being understaffed but making the choice not to work on them for the expansion but after.

How does the new maps not fit into the map design? Actually, what map design are you even talking about?

You will get new legendaries in next expansion late this year.

I assume you mean update, not expansion.

There will be no updates on gameplay, just gem shop updates and balances every 6 months(removing some amulets in pvp, giving new ones, buff or nerf 10% some abilities and some little change here and there). New legendaries are coming with new expansion eta q4 2016 till q4 2017 for 60€ (cause HoT was a big success).

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/looking-ahead-guild-wars-2-in-2013/

Seems like they are very understaffed, and has been for quite some time.

The change in plans didn’t have anything to do with staffing levels. I believe it was during one of their twitch feeds that they had been working on a system back in 2013 but scrapped it because it wasn’t what they wanted. They then introduced collections and that’s what we now have for precursor crafting.

It’s way less common to even see a guardian in a raid than a rev, I don’t really see your point.
Anyway, if you need another argument, when you can roll your face in raids as a rev doing high buffs and high damage, doing almost no button presses as rotation, I think balance is actually needed in such content that is intented to be hard.

The point that I was making was that just because you see people using more of a certain class doesn’t necessarily mean that that class is not balanced. Classes bring different things to the table.

pretty certain this is only meant to fix the CoR doubl-hitting people standing on the max range of it hitting. Multiple sources of people will still hit the person, just can’t double-hit yourself.

Well the test linked futher up in the thread suggests otherwise.

As of right now, no 2 or more revenants can hit a target with CoE within 0.5 seconds of each other.

That’s dumb. Does than mean they’ll do the same with other attacks? I’m sure doing that with Ele’s lava font would be “just awesome”. Why not just fix whatever it was that needed a change rather than practically remove its usefulness in large groups of players?

On my main account, most of my gold came from crafting and selling legendary weapons. There are plenty of other ways to make gold. You can do the T6 node farm in level 80 maps.

You can level up crafting so you can craft and sell the time-gated T7 mats. At the moment, damask is a loss but it may increase depending on the steps for legendary armor and the backpack. Deldrimor ingots provide you about 3G in profit after taxes and there’s the possible likelihood that that may increase when they release the next batch of legendary weapons and people decide they want it now rather than waiting the 70+ days.

There’s the Silverwastes chest farm although I do not know how it has been since ahoT released.

Until February 9th, you can by the Lucky Envelopes (or whatever they’re called) from the event merchant in DR. You can get up to 16 at 1G a piece. You can either open then for the chance at large profit or sell them on the TP for some profit.

Seems about the same. The extra 30 seconds is enough to let you get to 200. I got it with 3 seconds to spare on my first attempt. I suggest everyone give it a shot spamming the #2 skill while using the #5 to pull them together.

We see this with every single patch that has nerfs. Everyone claims that such and such class is now dead and no longer viable. A few days later, lo and behold that class isn’t. Just overreaction a fueled by exaggerations.

There is no such thing as an “Unlucky” account. Each roll of the dice is a completely separate event that is not dependent on anything that has happened before it.

That being said, I get your frustration. But the whole point of the MF is to remove gold from the economy which benefits everyone, and it does that bloody superbly (don’t talk to me about how many rares and exotics I’ve flushed chasing Dusk which I DO NOT EVEN WANT! lol)

I’ve never known a computer game that didn’t operate on RNG for loot.

Just stick with it, you never know, you might finish it off in the next stack!

P.S Luck is just what overly optimistic or pessimistic people call probability.

Your initial premise is wrong. Anet has acknowledged there are ‘outlier’ accounts on both the positive and negative side. They MAY be rare, but they do exist in this game. Anet just hasn’t figured out what to do with them.

There will likely be outlier accounts but no one account is more likely to fall under being labeled that. All accounts have an equal probability of being an outlier.

pick 1 MetaBoss to get the Shatter treatment

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ayrilana.1396

Ayrilana.1396

The meta bosses weren’t designed with Megaservers and boss timers in mind. They were supposed to be for people on that server and whoever was in the area when they showed up. I remember porting to LA to announce that Jormag was up or the Shatterer, to get enough people to show up. Before Megaservers and after timers, I showed up at a boss or two and I was the only one there, and no one else showed.

So pretty much all of those bosses need a rework to handle the number of people and give them new mechanics to keep people from autoattacking at afk spots.

They always had timers (they used to be instance-based, which is why they were standardized after the megaservers) and most servers had commanders who’d lead a zerg at reset to kill all the bosses, so nothing really changed (except that you can actually kill world bosses after their initial post-reset spawn now).

Also, Claw of Jormag, because mass CC isn’t terribly interesting, nor is standing around being unable to tell whether the golems are actually doing anything to it or not.

No they didn’t always have timers and they were never instance based. (Unless you mean server based). Claw of Jormag used to have something like a 1 hour cool down with a 2 hour spawn window. I remember FE having a much short cool down timer with no time limit. Timers were added when they revamped the bosses. If you had been around when they added those you would have remembered the complaints that players felt the timers were unnecessary.

If you want a challenge go to raids or fractals. Open world is meant to be fun for the casual player. Before it was not fun, not it is.

I’m going to have to disagree with you on this. It’s a difference of opinion so we likely will never agree. The one thing I do want to know is where it was stated that open world is meant to be for the casual player and that it must be easy. Casual does not equate to skill level.

It’s not stated and it doesn’t have to be. However, open world is far more accessible than instances and is the play area of choice for the widest array of players. Therefore, it needs to cater to the broadest skill level, which almost always sits at the less challenging skill level. Most MMO’s which have had hard and challenging open world areas, have had to nerf or de-clutter their maps to cater for a wider audience for sustainability.

Lotro did this as a classic example – it removed group zones and added soloable mobs as the game grew and the playerbase became split, it became less and less sustainable to have challenging open world areas, as the majority of players were being put off. They moved all their challenging content into instances – using a tiered difficulty system to break up the challenges further. Whilst I can see how the quality of the experience suffered, many embraced the changes as they felt less shut out from the areas of the game they shouldn’t have been.

So it’s not catering for casuals, since you are right, casuals is the wrong term and doesn’t equate to low skill, it’s catering to the widest possible audience.

But why must nearly all open world content cater to those of a lower skill set? Many people enjoy large scale encounters such as Teq, Marionette, vanilla Gerent, TT, etc.

Maybe Anet should create map-wide instances for those that want large group oriented challenges. They can then increase the rewards.

Unplayable Solo

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Ayrilana.1396

I’d just like to remind everyone that GuildWars 2 is an mmo. It’s a multiplayer game. Any mmo that allows you to play all content solo isn’t doing it right.

MMO simply indicated that lots of players are also playing on the same server/map as you. Not that a group-or-die mentality is required as you seem to wrongly imply. I see many players jumping mindlessly around in LA, so it’s also an MMO, even though they and I are not interacting with each other.

Besides, there are fractals, (group) PvP, and raids. They (mostly) need you to interact with others, i. e. not everything is soloable NOR is everyone asking that EVERYTHING should be, thus it’s an MMORPG.

With that, I guess, you can’t really argue that an MMO should have solo content either. You can make an argument that it would be nice to have solo content but can’t really make it out as a requirement.

Every single weapon that deals ANY damage is by definition a “dps weapon”, since they deal more or less DPS. Just fyi.

So by your definition, clerics armor is DPS armor?

I didn’t know armor deals damage? And you do know what dps stands for, right?

You do not know what it is meant by DPS. Anyone in clerics gear, whether it be weapons and/or armor, is not in DPS armor. In this game, DPS gear refers to gear where its primary purpose is to maximize damage. Clerics does not do this but berserker does.

Classes also have weapons that are more defensive or supportive. There are also weapons more designed to be used with condition builds rather than power builds.

Necro staff in damage build is actually the best config for WvW with a necro.
Necro staff is better with full zerkers build and certainly not condi. Your goal is to annoy zerg enemy phase with wells, skill 4 and shouts.

Staff is actually considered as a DPS weapon with negative conditions when you use it on a large scale of players (zerg) with full damage build. In 1vs1, of course the staff is not the best.

Staff necro is actually in the meta WvW anyway.

However, I agree with the fact that his build isn’t really good but his gear is fine. He just have to change specialization for more damage orientation.

Maybe something has changed in the past year with staff then. I’ve gone full glass on my necro before and only used staff for tagging. I guess I’ll have to check it out again with the reaper build.

Ok, so it is I that don’t know what dps stands for? Oookay…

There’s what DPS stands for and then there’s how it is used within the game. In GW2, it’s primarily used for power/condition builds that maximize their damage.

What have you done to TD meta?

If you want a challenge go to raids or fractals. Open world is meant to be fun for the casual player. Before it was not fun, not it is.

I’m going to have to disagree with you on this. It’s a difference of opinion so we likely will never agree. The one thing I do want to know is where it was stated that open world is meant to be for the casual player and that it must be easy. Casual does not equate to skill level.

Your old players payed $60-$80 for GW2 just for a misfire wolf or to simply own the game, and they ALREADY OWN GW2. You can not be surprised that they don’t want to re-purchase GW2 along with dlc just to acquire the DLC. If you ever feel like you’d enjoy not hemorrhaging old players out of your game with moronic sales pitches, as well as snarky and frankly hair-brained statements from Arena net staff (Don’t worry, im not bieng rude, i follow up my dicey statements with definitive proof.)

You rang?

, Don’t let your less intelligible staff respond to messages from the people who pay your bills, and just put a 4th option up for HOT at a $10-$20 discount for not having to re-purchase the base game again, or if you insist we do, give us heart of thorns on our original account AND the new one we are purchasing. we’ll count it as free storage.

Frankly i feel that your old players who payed more for the game and got considerably less for it have already spend enough money just buying the game, as well as the time spend in the game More likely than not spending money in the gem store have already MORE than payed the full price of the HOT DLC and should receive it already without paying in the first place, But im a reasonable person and im simply asking for an alternative to buying the game again, We should be able to buy the dlc ALONE without spending what we payed the first time for GW2 Especially for content that is considerably smaller than GW2 base game in the first place. This considering if you read in this thread that a guy bought GW2 1 month prior to the DLC coming out for roughly $45 and your currently selling base game + DLC for $50 this gives your DLC an approximately $5 Retail value. Maybe thats why you have a thread of 147 pages of your old and loyal and probably even a fair amount of new players calling you out on the fact that this is a problem. GGWP

Did you read the red posts in this thread including any of the news articles published by Anet before posting? You are not buying the core game again.

Looks like a bug that should be fixed then and explains what the OP is experiencing. Damage reduction modifiers have always been multiplicative and not additive.

Your build is also meh and staff is not a DPS weapon.

And your point is? Well i really dont know what you try to archiv here…

That what you’re claiming in your first post is wrong.

But i dont see this…

I said that WvW Guild start to stack -% dmg and they take almost 0 dmg permanent.
I told you what stats i had when i used Well of Suffering. (just one example)

Pls tell me where im “wrong”.

Ok maybe you dont get to 100% reduktion but they still take no dmg.

“staff is no dps weapon = well of suffering does no dmg” logic?

Damage reduction does not stack. They do not have 100% damage reduction unless there is a bug/exploit somewhere.

When I say something is not a DPS weapon, I’m not saying it does no damage. Mesmer staff is not a DPS weapon but it does damage. Not all weapons are DPS weapons on classes.

I’m just not seeing how you could be doing that little damage with what you claim that you have. Considering that you’d have to be in a group of players to maintain the buffs, you should have similar buffs as them if not the same.
