Hold off man until the Lost Shores update and I’m sure you’ll find something you’d want.
I highly anticipate that there will be new weapons/armor (just call it a gut instinct….)
Commander @ Tarnished Coast
There was a ‘one time event’ for the Mad King halloween thing… but it was actually just the opening/starting time for that particular event.
So I wouldn’t really worry too much about it
P.s I’m from QLD too.

Another good idea is to have an ‘ignore commander’ option because some people that do have commander icons don’t wish to lead at all and further contribute to confusion when there are multiple commanders playing that do wish to lead.
Community voting commanders is another option – as some people are natural leaders. With the community voting system – people who have earnt the right to be a commander would get the title due to their natural leadership ability (hence anyone can be a commander – not just the wealthy players)
Just some more food for thought.

Salvaged a lv78 exotic armor piece with Black Lion Salvage Kit the other day, and I got 0 ecto from it, just my luck.
It is this very reason why I would suggest that nobody salvages exotics. The reason being that even if you manage to get 1 ecto – it wasn’t worth more than the sale price of that particular exotic.
Salvage rare for ectos. Either use the exo or sell it. Heck even putting it into the Mystic Forge is better than salvaging it (just remember though that the MF is mostly unkind so keep that in mind)

From what I’ve noticed. It takes about an hour of farming to hit Diminished Returns (DR). The reset this, you gotta either; take a break, zone to another area etc.
Once the DR resets you can continue to farm if you like and the loot/rewards will return to normal.
DR can affect: Loot (both quality and quantity), Karma and possibly even Experience (although I never keep track of XP gains)
DR is highly annoying because it forces people to play a certain way or to do other activities they may not wish to do (or even forces them to take breaks when they don’t wish to)
Hopefully DR will be removed entirely some day. I think it was implemented to hamper bots (or as a way to control the economy) but all it does is annoy the legitimate players.
Commander @ Tarnished Coast
I like the idea – but I feel that 500 badges of honor is far too little. What will end up happening is that there will be heaps of people running around with blue icons and co-ordination would be difficult (and highly confusing)
My suggestion would be 5000-10,000 honor badges for the commander title would be more appropriate. This would mean you’re battle tested and you have the experience needed to do the job.
Also, on another related note. It would be good if the commander icon colours could be assigned by the commander. This allows multiple commanders to effectively co-ordinate groups without it confusing the players. Sometimes when there’s 3+ commanders playing at once it can confuse the heck out of people. Commander colours would solve this isssue.

No, that’s not true, might stack on intensity, not on duration. So, every stack of might has its own duration and will expire accordingly.
Example: as a Guardian i can stack might with:
- Empower (8s)
- Save Yourselves (10s)
- Empowering Might (5s)and all of them will expire at their duration even if stacked.
Oh dear lord how did I forget about the Might boon – when I’m a Guardian too? LOL
My brain = fried. Yes might stacks intensity.
Commander @ Tarnished Coast
Since you are the source of the boon it comes from your duration I believe (also if they’re wearing modifiers then that would further add to the overall duration)
Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong but this is my understanding of it
Commander @ Tarnished Coast
I haven’t noticed that Paradox so I think it may be fixed?
I love the ghastly weapons – they emit a cool smokey/ghostly effect that is very cool! I wish there was that same effect on the AC armor sets that would be awesome?
Commander @ Tarnished Coast
This is true. Also as a side note, anything “Explorer’s” will also include MF attribute bonus (weapons, armor, jewelry etc.).
Most commonly +3% (with the exception of certain crafted Jewelry which is usually more)
Commander @ Tarnished Coast
It’s probably not going to be that fun until you start unlocking most of your skill set and developing an effective fighting style.
It will take time – and it does get better!

These are my ideas on what might become available for Lost Shores:
- A crazy dungeon that’s going to reward a legendary precursor upon completion
- New unique craftable weapons and armor (as well as new weapons and armor in general)
- A new level 80 zone that’s going to be great for everyone
- New enemy mobs not yet seen before
- Improved chest rewards
- Improved drop rates on certain materials
- 1 or 2 new jumping puzzles
One can only hope I can’t wait!

Unless you need it to be portable… you’re wasting your money on buying a laptop.
The only advantage a ‘gaming’ laptop has is portability. Other then that, you’d want to spend the money building a beast PC rig. Which would probably set you back around $1.5k – $2k and is more future proof.
I can run GW2 on ultra high settings on my recently built PC rig and it cost me around $1.1k to build with plenty of headroom for overclocking (which makes it more future proof) do yourself a favour and listen to the sound advice given (unless you absolutely NEED portability – I would suggest going the PC route)
Commander @ Tarnished Coast
This is actually a good question.
When you mouse over the ectoplasm – it’s Glob of Ectoplasm (and the text is orange) which means that it would be considered an exotic crafting material.
Whether that counts as a ‘rare’ material I’m not too sure….
Also relevant to the question – the Black Lion Salvage kits give me the best salvage rates for ectoplasm and much more prochances @ salvaging 3 ectos from a higher level rare items (lvl 75+).
Yes you can use basic kits to salvage for ectos also but I’ve never checked if they give better or worse rates than say a mystic/master kit maybe someone can share their experience?

I just wanted to chime in on something I noticed this morning. On Gate of Madness, last night Spark’s highest listing was 280 gold, and there were 5 total listings. This morning there is only 1 listing for Spark and its priced at 400 gold. I realize that its entirely possible 4 individuals purchased Sparks before morning but I can’t help my suspicious mind from wondering if this isn’t obvious market manipulation.
It’s very possible that someone or a few people have bought up the last of the stock to just relist it at a much higher price. I have been paying attention to precursor prices and it does seem like some people are doing this.
This is another reason why there should be a more definitive way of obtaining the precursor because those that are super rich can easily monopolize the precursor market as there is nothing stopping them – making it pretty darn difficult for legit players to ever get a precursor (even if you had all the other gifts)
The problem is with such a small supply and the demand being where it is – it creates an easy opportunity for the rich to buy out all precursors and relist them at rediculous prices. In this instance, the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. The only people that benefit from the current system are the rich. Many of the hardcore players and the ultra dedicated players get the shaft with this type of arrangement.
I wish that there was a better way…. but only Anet can decide that..
Commander @ Tarnished Coast
This thing looks amazing
Commander @ Tarnished Coast
I agree – I hate hearing the word “retreat” because it’s not necessarily true when you’re using it to advance.
Anything else would be cooler I just don’t have any good idea to contribute right now though haha
Commander @ Tarnished Coast
I wouldn’t say get rid of invisibility altogether on the thief because that’s part of their core skills.
What I would like though, is to see that invisibility removed when killing a downed opponent (which is highly unbalanced in PVP/WVW).
Commander @ Tarnished Coast
Although having another ranged weapon for the Guardian would be cool. I don’t think it’s really necessary.
Back in the days – scepters were almost useless because of their slow firing rate but they’ve beefed them up somewhat; they’re not too bad these days.
The staff is a cool ranged guardian weapon as it is and you can set it up to do some pretty good ranged + AOE damage.
Commander @ Tarnished Coast
If you can be hit for 20k damage instantly, you’re doing something very, very wrong.
If you can’t react in two seconds, you’re very, very bad.
Try again.
I’ve been hit for about 15K damage by a thief before in 2-3 hits he killed me. Whilst being invisible (and it did take about 2-3 seconds – I truly couldn’t see him either).
Have you experienced that yourself yet?
Commander @ Tarnished Coast
To better learn how to effectively fight mobs it’s best to buddy up with people at first until you’re comfortable with your own fighting style.
Make use of dodge-rolling (assign dodge to an easy to access key, I use the shift key)
Experiment with different weapons (I would suggest you try out a Greatsword as it’s easier to learn with a GS than Hammer/Sword)
Once you learn the range of enemies, the type of attacks they have you will be able to become more comfortable with discovering how to counter-attack and how to chain up combos (also learn how to take advantage of combo fields as well)
Fighting in GW2 is very different in the sense that you can attack whilst being mobile – so don’t just stand there and spam attacks… keep moving, dodging and evading etc. stay mobile.
Learn when to use skills at the right time (timing is crucial) because with most attacks you will have a cool-down period where you can’t use that skill until the CD is off…. time your attacks to take advantage of your situation.
With these tips – and with perseverance you will improve. As with anything in life, the more you do something the better you’ll become. The more proficient you’ll be. Good luck!
Commander @ Tarnished Coast
Try this out:
Create a shortcut on your desktop for GW2.
Right click on the GW2 icon and go to properties:
In the TARGET area of the properties add the following string:
EXAMPLE: “C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\Gw2.exe” -testVerticalFov
Click OK – and run GW2 off that shortcut. Let us know if this helps your melee issue out the other tip that I can provide is to zoom out the camera a bit when you’re fighting in melee to better see more of your surroundings (mouse scroll).
In relations to question 2 – I use my peripheral vision to be aware of the red AOE circles. If you relax your gaze you’ll be able to see everything above and below you by using your peripheral vision. Try it out!
Commander @ Tarnished Coast
That’s an interesting looking weapon. I have not seen it yet – but let’s hope someone can help you out with the recipe (it’s also entirely possible that it’s a world drop too)
Maybe someone who’s encountered it before can better inform us
Commander @ Tarnished Coast
I don’t understand why people complain so hard for a skin. Getting a Legendary is part of something different to do at end-game, but the end result doesn’t need to be an absolute achievement for this MMO. Also, I want to add that the process of getting a Legendary should take much longer than 2 weeks to a month and I’d hazard a guess that it’s what ANet devs intended in the first place… Either way, it’s certainly not that ANet doesn’t care; it’s because the Legendary system and crafting don’t need to be changed whatsoever.
The system isn’t broken. The demand far outweighs the offer, since everybody wants to have a Legendary and don’t realize that it’s never going to happen. Heck, trying to find another skin than a Legendary may yield you interesting results…
Let’s face it. ANet doesn’t even need to give us an official response for complaints about something that isn’t broken, is entirely optional. People expecting for one are the ones with their heads in the sand.
I somewhat agree with your thought process but in relation to the point you made about the system not being broken….
(In my opinion) if it takes someone 1 combine and they get a precursor and it takes someone else 4000 combines and they don’t get a precursor. I would consider this a highly unbalanced/unfair and a broken system.
Why can’t they be made with the same amount of effort – that would be more fair, wouldn’t it? Why favour one player’s time more then anothers, are we not all equals?
Commander @ Tarnished Coast
ok, correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t there already a 100% guaranteed way to get a precursor?
From the trade post?
After seeing the R&D thread on precursor generation – I have decided to put 100 combines into the forge and if I get the precursor I would consider myself lucky. If I don’t get it within that many combines – I’m just going to get it from the TP.
The MF usually stings most but the TP is a sure fire way of getting the precursor. Minimize your risk folks and play it safe.
Commander @ Tarnished Coast
I do not want to see a legendary on every 2nd person I pass, that would completely undermine the whole point of a legendary.
You do realise in about 3-6 months this is going to happen anyway right? Legendaries are not legendary because they are rare. They’re probably called legendary due to all the materials required to make one…
Commander @ Tarnished Coast
The truth is that there’s a lot of bloody awesome ideas in this thread and even if only 1 or 2 of them get implemented then I’m sure the whole player base would benefit greatly.
It’s just hard to find every single great idea in the 16 pages of this thread hahaha
Anyway guys, just try to enjoy all the aspects of this game because there is another update happening very soon and I’m willing to bet there will be more unique content (unique items) will be making its way out of the wood work soon. Who knows – maybe there may even be more legendaries soon making an appearance?
Commander @ Tarnished Coast
Ozii it’s funny that you mention that because I actually am aiming for sunrise lol
Now with that being said. I am trying to farm for most of my ingredients (although not all). I acknowledge that some RNG is inevitably going to be apart of the legendary process (in particular the mystic clovers – which is totally OK since they are based upon luck which is highly relevant to their generation and I have no qualms about that part being completely RNG whatsoever)
It’s the precursor being RNG that I do not understand as it doesn’t really make any sense. The core concept behind the Mystic Forge is to control the economy by offering a way to sink items out. I ask you this, if there was a set precursor recipe – would that not achieve the same result? Items would still be leaving the economy via the Mystic Forge. People are still going to be using the MF to make weapons (more item sinking). Rares would still be leaving via salvaging due to ectos. So it doesn’t change the infrastructure of the Mystic Forge to implement it in this manner.
Anyway, I feel as if I’m repeating myself and talking in circles so I’m done with this topic…. I wish everyone the best of luck and perhaps Anet will listen and help implement a better system in the future onwards and upwards friends.
Commander @ Tarnished Coast
I appreciate the effort you’ve put forth in these these posts… I think of the Mystic Forge to be similar to a casino.
It’s been designed to take your money…. and in the long term you won’t be beating the house. If you win and leave it at that then perhaps you have…. but the allure is far too strong for most.
“There is no profit in the eternal alchemy” I believe this quote is a message from the developers, trying to subtly mention this to the players. Just my 2c worth.
Commander @ Tarnished Coast
Wow Delolith you’re quite lucky
Congrats on finally obtaining your precursor.
Commander @ Tarnished Coast
It’s not the difficulty that people are discussing. It’s the RNG aspect to the whole precursor generation…. that’s pretty much the crux of the whole discussion.
There’s nothing legendary about gambling. There’s also nothing legendary with buying gold either (and I’m not saying that’s what most people have done… but there would be some out there that have)
Legendaries should be made through in-game achievements… not tossing random items into the forge crossing your fingers and hoping for the best.
I don’t find that hard to understand. Why not make the process fun?
Heck make it 10 times harder and I would still be ok with that so long as they removed the randomness of it… back in GW1 days there was weapons/armor that took a hell of a lot of work to obtain and still people were ok with that because there was a sense of clear progression. GW2 should maintain that.
I’d rather see someone own a legendary and think “geez that person achieved everything worthwhile doing in this game and they rock!” instead of “geez that person farmed his butt off to get that weapon…”
At the moment – there’s nothing really epic or legendary about a legendary. It just takes gold – there’s really not much skill involved whatsoever (even the 500 wvw badges are super easy to get… dungeon tokens are easy to get) there’s nothing that’s hard about a legendary other than having enough gold to get it (and you can buy gold) so where does that leave the legendary status?
Commander @ Tarnished Coast
Yes you’re able to transmute as many times as you need – you just need the appropriate transmutation stones (basic for levels 1-79 / fine for level 80 items)
Commander @ Tarnished Coast
Out of curiousity, what does your progress % meter say?
Commander @ Tarnished Coast
obiemvy.5632 > I was actually referring to the salvage rates of gossamer and not the MF as the source of gossamer
I still find it to be close to 4 silks to 1 gossamer (attempts) from salvaging white and blue armor items (lvl 76+) and I have much more gossamer now than I can even use lol
Commander @ Tarnished Coast
hahahaha this is classic. I remember the day when I first picked up one of these and I thought …. “SCORED!”
A quick double click later and I was set back to reality.
4 copper! While it’s nice to have this in the loot table (and that’s being generous) I would prefer the name of it changed to something more appropriate.
“Bag of Coins” or “Light sack of coppers” would be more accurate.. perhaps?
Commander @ Tarnished Coast
There are many different play styles and you can set up your traits in a way that allows you to be effective in different areas.
You should ask yourself what type of play style you enjoy mostly and spec out your character in a synergistic way to support that type of play style.
Experimentation is key. You will soon find something you’ll enjoy as there are many different ways to build up your toon. Mix it up!
Commander @ Tarnished Coast
Most of the people that are against having the system changed have already gotten their legendary/precursor and would rather the system not change so they have exclusivity for as long as possible.
IMO this is a pretty poor way of thinking. Everyone who puts in the hard work has the right to a legendary. Legendary weapons don’t need to be rare to be legendary. The process involved in making a legendary SHOULD be legendary and not based upon luck (mystic clovers and the gift of fortune is excused because they are BASED upon luck)
Every other component in the legendary making process should be based upon skill and or achievements in-game. That should be the way it’s done.
Commander @ Tarnished Coast
(edited by Azelroth.6801)
There is profit to be made with crafting but you just need to think outside the square
I’d love to reveal exactly what to do but that would screw me over (and it has done so before in the past when I last revealed my ideas)
All that I can say is if you want to make money with crafting you really need to think outside the box…. I hope that somehow helps!
Commander @ Tarnished Coast
I don’t believe the 10x recipe to have a 30% chance. Most people report much lower odds of getting 10x to work (chances are probably closer to 10% from memory)
Use the 1x recipe all the way and you’ll thank me later, trust me
Commander @ Tarnished Coast
Cool idea man. I visited for a bit and you guys were playing League of Legends and I have no idea what’s going on (I’ve never played that game before haha)
Commander @ Tarnished Coast
You’re somewhat on the right track bombastinator
Magic Find (MF) increases the loot quality but not the quantity (ex. you will find more masterwork/rare loot than if you hadn’t of worn MF gear).
If you wish to improve your loot. The best way is to party up into a full group and go farming together. It will allow you to tag more mobs (AOE is good for farming) and improve your loot that way.
Wear as much MF as you can and hit up Cursed Shore in a full party – farm that way and report back your success then. Wish you luck!
Commander @ Tarnished Coast
Mira @ 10+ Hours of farming a day….. with 15-20G output that equates to about 1.5g – 2g per hour which is entirely possible farming plinx. Depends on your luck as well.
Your fingers are going to hurt like hell after 10+ hours and it will feel like one massive grind but it’s achievable (use MF)
Commander @ Tarnished Coast
This feature is something I’ve really wanted for a long time. I think the devs touched upon the topic and mentioned it was due to the current implementation that it’s not possible for them to do at the moment.
Perhaps in the future they will incorporate such a needed feature. Blind buying items is quite possibly the worst aspect of the TP.
I’m sure it’s technically possible – it’s just a matter of figuring out an effective way of including it within their design of the TP.
Commander @ Tarnished Coast
Inus whenever I farm I use some magic find (MF) and usually get gossamer scraps even when I’m not specifically looking for it. I find it quite common.
Silk you will get quite a bit of as that’s to be expected but occasionally you’ll get the gossamer as well (maybe in about a 4 – 1 ratio of Silk to Gossamer…. just going off memory)
Commander @ Tarnished Coast
I highly support this suggestion. It’s really unbalanced that a thief can finish someone in stealthed mode.
It goes against the very purpose of having the downed-state to begin with (having a second chance). Finishing an opponent whilst stealthed offers the downed player no 2nd chance whatsoever.
Highly unbalanced when you consider that no other profession can do this.
Commander @ Tarnished Coast
Ask yourself if you like the legendary greatswords – Sunrise or Twilight.
If the answer is yes, and your character can use it (even if you make an alt to make use of it) I would save it and turn it into the legendary.
If you can’t be bothered gathering the rest of the components – you could sell it.
IMO this is a win/win situation. You can’t really lose at this point hahaha
Commander @ Tarnished Coast
Are you both in the same guild? Why not try guild banking it?
Commander @ Tarnished Coast
XGhoul hit the nail on the head. That’s exactly what they’re used for and they don’t imitate what you’ve also put into the combination (ex. 3 GS + 1 stone does not equal 4 GS)
It just saves you from using an extra exotic/rare or whatever else you’re putting in.
Commander @ Tarnished Coast
