I mean sure… there isnt much to work with in terms of combinations anyways… but still. Oh well for now i just gonna say thanks for actually listening and really working with the community. Keep it coming.. the rev went from spoiled can food to tasty dinner real fast….maybe you guys get it up to 5 star menu at the end… and if not.. its still (for sure) 100 times more fun to play then last week

The weapons aren’t really tied into the legends. The only caveat is the condition legend requires the condition weapons.
But then again, Mallyx legend can be used by berserkers as an anti-condition role : lots of resistance, elite that gives base stat bonuses and application or non condition damage based conditions. All that can be used by a zerk player. So you use say a build of Shiro+Mallyx with Sword/Sword. And once the boss you fight enters it’s heavy condition usage phase, you switch to Mallyx.
Or you fight a boss that is far too hard in melee, just equip a hammer beforehand in Shiro stance.
Or you fight a heavy CC situation, Shiro + Dwarf for protection and stability.
Or the boss requires you to do a little bit of everything and then you are screwed. “Oh man, i wish i had the (fictional) block skill equipped, but i dont need the rest of the legend it comes with”. " oh come on ,now he goes ranged and i got my swords equipped". “Darn it i cant catch the thief running away cause i got the staff equipped, i also got the dwarf so i could get myself a speed buff to catch up but the staff got no blast finishers”
And so on. Yea… its a stupid example but thats what im afraid of the most at the revenant. No matter how you build, it always boils down to the same deal. There will be always something missing that any other class can fix with either skills, attuments, weapon kits , just a 2nd weapon set that might be used just for utility or a set of utility skills that can be choosen or replaced individually.
What if you get kited by a ranger and you cant really fight back without ranged combat? What if you are ranged with your hammer that gets weaker the closer the enemie is to you and a thief starts putting knives in your backside? You gonna ask him to occ to get your melee weapons equipped? What if you need a speed buff but dont got the dwarf equipped to get the stone road skill for the field? You got the ventari shield bubble up to protect some group members from a hail of ranged attacks while they rez a downed group member and you need to heal on the other side of the room? How you gonna do that? Either you move the tablet over and expose your vulnerable allies or change the legend and make the tablet vanish? Or get downed yourself and loose the tablet and so get them and yourself killed in the progress?
Thats how i see the rev… waaaay too many “what ifs”. But till they dont reveal the full class with all traitlines, mechanics and skills set in stone i gonna hold back with my negatives. I really dont want the class to suck, it would break my heart if it would be trash.

Along with all those that lordkrall pointed out, your own example (list of rev skills) points out that its not set. That picture includes dagger skills, along with the shield skills. So which does Revenant get? If dagger isn’t correct then shield may not be correct either. We don’t/won’t know till Anet get around to finally announcing all the rest of the elite specs.

Well how they gonna fix it… i dunno. How i would fix it?
- Adding a normal weapon swap for starters
- Adding either an “empty husk legend” that can be put together by hand or more skills for the legends we got to fine tune your build, maybe even just neutral skills that are
not tied to any specific legend… ya know just “mist shenanigans”
- Reworking all weapons to either change their skills slightly with the active legend
(sorta like ele attuments, just more arround buffs, heals or debuffs and condi
depending on the legend)
- or making the weapons fit atleast 2 or 3 legends by default with effects and skills
- making the traitlines less focused on one legend only cause that is exactly the
(back then) 6\6\rest wherever build stuff i predicted as they revealed the class
mechanic what restricts build diversity big time
-raising the damage drastically on all weapons to be on equal footing and only differ
with the buffs\debuffs\utility and range they bring
- adding a mobility\teleport skill or speed buff to each legend and\or to be mobile in battle and movement in general
- reworking the energy system to only affect utility, heal and elite skill

I like the Jade Wind mechanic, that’s a nice touch. I hope Shiro won’t make some of the other legends obsolete though. Or devalue them too much. That would be a wrong step for the class.

The only place where classes without weapon swap are truly range locked is underwater, so can we stop this pointless debate about range. Sure not all configs have optimal damage at all ranges, however, they certainly have better options than the Revenant as we know it.
If nothing else, then for them the utility skills that for Revenants are esentially kits with some flare can supplement that range. They have options right now, Revenant doesn’t. If it only used one handed weapons then we might have a bit more wiggle room. However, with only four one handed weapons (if we believe current rumors) some of them exclusively off-hand. There just won’t be enough skill combinations for either weapon skills or utility skills. As Revenant I feel like super locked down engi right now, only Revs kits happen to play with utilities and we can only bring two of them (or if you look at it differently we have to bring two of them).
well as (almost) full time engi i can tell you that you are anything but locked down with that class. Main weapons are all ranged, cept the shield..and even thats technically ranged if you count the secondary skill of 5 as an attack BUT you got a toolkit with melee attacks, block and pull, a bomb kit with ranged aoe attacks, a ground targeted nade kit that can be either your mid range or your melee solution (or both at the same time), an elixir gun with uses in all ranges and a strong evade and heal, a conic aoe flamethrower for short range AND a 1500 range mortar whenever you want em…if you have any of these equipped….or you use none of them and take elixirs or gadgets or turrets… or you do it like i do and mix it up (HT-BK-EG-EB-MK). Also rifle got skills to push the enemie away from you while also pushing you away AND clearing immob and chill in the process, deliver a painfull buckshot into the enemie´s face that gets stronger the closer you are to your foe and even an immob and a ground targeted jump that you can either use as gap closer OR to jump away from your enemie a bit…or you just jump directly onto the enemie from melee range for a double hit with a cherry of vun ontop…and a leap finisher. With engi you can make builds that prepare you for the most of whats ahead if you want to, or you specialise in a specific weapon\skill type and you still can make an amazing build. P\P condi? No issue. Cele\rifle? Sure go for it. Gadgeteer? Yea man suit yourself. HGH\potion? Yea why not, and while you are at it try the elixir gun with that, cause it benefits from the trait too or just dont, do what you want. With the rev you are locked down big time and i really dont like that. I dont think i need to mention the way of the ele…and how quickly a summon weapon can be pulled out (AND SHARED OMG HOW EPIC) or an attument can swapped. I mean sure.. sure its the beta, nothing is done 100% i get it… but something needs to be done with the rev´s mechanic and stats to either make the 2 legends\1 weapon stuff viable or there needs to be a weapon swap or an ele like addon to the weapon so that its attacks\playstyle change depending on the legend OR extra skills for the legends to swap em out like regular skills. Thats atleast my 2 cent on that theme.
edit: Also engi can use kits underwater… so thats that

We have not released all weapons and legends for the Revenant yet. Right now there is definitely a gap in the playstyles offered as we haven’t discussed the more pure DPS focused setup yet. soon tm.

I have a feeling though that the weapons are intentionally tied to a particular legend. Like an iconic weapon, in the sense of King Arthur and Excalibur. Which means making a weapon usable with a legend that doesn’t use that weapon breaks with the flavor of the class. can you see Arthur running around with a staff?
Well the issue is that you got your king arthur legend slotted and his excalibur equipped, sure it fits cause its his iconic sword…but you also got maybe robin hood as your second legend (yea a stupid example but whatever). Whats with him? His iconic weapon is a bow and lets assume for a moment robin cant really fight with a sword (what he technically can do but like i said its just an example) and especially not the legendary excalibur …so whats with him? Why is he even equipped? Why would you even swap to the “bow-less” robin in battle if arthur got his blade perfectly fine under controll? Yea sure.. the rev is a lore cyrclejerk class…but the rev just channels the legend´s powers and does not fully become it, thats how i see it.

Well in that case , I don’t think a legend focused on DPS will help a lot in regards to damage if it’s this low.
Here’s to hoping the glint legend has us turn into a huge dragon. Seems to be the only option to save Revenant at this point ;-p

I believe that currently there is no engineer build with no kits, maybe with the only exception of heavy turet builds.
Being struck with the same weapon is pretty bad in this game.

the staff looks just like i wanted a (melee) staff weapon to look, sure its still a bit clunky animation wise… but heh thats a beta, so to expect perfection wouldnt be fair. So far (purely animation and visual vise) a 9\10 from me
imo best heavy armor in game cause it
- got an interresting visual design
- looks for once good on all races AND genders and takes racial features in account
- combines pretty neat with existing sets
- actually completely changes the feel depending on the colours you use
- its not a stupid outfit and so can make people that just want certain parts very happy

Traits are not that interresting and many work against eachother
Skills cant be changed and limit the build diversity extremely
Certain weapons are almost mandatory for 1 legend and useless for the other
Lack of a weapon swap makes it hard to adjust to your foe cause the weapons are
way too much tied to the legends
Visual effects are top notch
Class mechanic is creative and i like it a lot
Is it fun to play? Yes and no… I played now for a few hours, gave a condi build a go, a (as good as possible) dps build a try, a cele build a chance and something along the lines of a healer build but i always had the feel i wasnt in controll. Silly example..but it felt like i would be sitting with a friend on his couch playing a console game and he hands me his controller in the middle of the game like “here take over i get some chips”. Know the feel? Its like its not my char that i play here, its a-nets char. Its not adjusted to my comfort and it feels weird to use it. Sure its a new class and all.. but i never had that before when i tested and made a new class, heck i even felt more comfortable with a thief and to this day i cant fight a vet with it without getting rekt. Even after a few hours that feeling didnt go away.
I however had a lot of fun with just goofing arround, the skill visuals are something to look at. You can clearly tell somebody got fun in the art department with that class… unlike engineer kits cough cough Anyways.. yea…imo the issues of the class lay in the details and some thing needs to get added either skill swapping, one legend that can be put together by hand with skills from other legends or a weapon swap.
nah, is beta time, if you pre-ordered the game you can beta test the rev the whole weekend everywhere

It might be a class more directed to new players. One weapon set, lack of complicated skill selection, specializations are fairly closely tied to legends and legends have ‘easy to understand’ playstyles behind them.
For example, you want condi damage and support, you pick mallyx and ventari. You pick the specializations tied to those legends, and invocation (I think) as your third specialization. You pick weapon based on whichever legend you plan to use more (staff if ventari, mace/axe if mallyx). And you’re pretty much set to go. For weapons and gear, just pick celestial for everything.
No complicated choices. Very streamlined.
Boring too, from my perspective, but then I’ve been around since launch. Of course if this is the case, then it’s a bit silly – since for new players every class is new, it’s the ‘veteran’ players that are more in need of a fresh class.. and for that I’d rather see it more complex than existing classes, instead of simplistic, ‘streamlined experience’.
That may be a selfish way of thinking though, since it can be argued that new players could also benefit from a class that’s easy to start with.
I wouldn’t say it’s aimed at new players. Resource management is pretty big barrier of entry.
And I simply don’t believd that Revenant won’t get some choice in utilities for each legend. There will be, I tell you.

Well op then gw2 isnt the right mmo for you. The timeline in the game is close to industrial times and firearms exist, so do airships, helicopters, submarines, tanks, “robots” (watchwork), mech suits (dredge tech) and much more. Also what makes these things less fantasy? Or do you count from plants grown pistols or from bones carved rifles as non fantasy? This game isnt your traditional medieval\fantasy setting.
Ellen ‘Boom Boom’ Kiel just likes to watch things burn. Gnashblade was the right choice. The logical choice. I suspect the ballot boxes were rigged.

so yea.. you get if you are lucky 1 armor set next year and as extra bonus if you play charr or asura its gonna be extra glitchy and clippy cause its technically free, so they most likely dont bother with anything but human females in quality. The days of nice things are long over…just hope that atleast in HoT are some sets that are worth it…thats what i do. After that i expect really not much anymore
i actually liked the ps MUCH more then i do the current sylvari cyrclejerk and watching the destiny edge v2 go on wacky adventures and getting new powers and do all sorts of things that i cant. In the ps i atleast had a choice what to do and atleast a part of it was racial. Now the story is watching the destiny edge v2 grow in character and blending in with the furniture…and a few mins of fighting… if even that cough cough party politics cough cough. In the ps i had a choice on what to do. (from a charr perspective): Wanna make turrets or a kitten cannon out of your anti ghost weapon? What about your dad, is he a traitor or a soldier who cares about his fellow men?…Or is he even alive anymore? What about the orders? Wanna join the whispers or the durmands? Or are you more of a vigil? How you wanna tackle the attack of orr? Wanna do this or do that? Up to you. Now its just watching chars who “forced” themselfes on me and sorta are a pretty lame replacement for rytlock, eir, logan, zoija and caithe…why cant i do more stuff with them? They are awesome…well cept logan i dont like him and caithe…ehhhhh she is on my watchlist for the egg theft. Atleast rytlock is coming back in HoT… so there is atleast a chance the coolness returns a little bit

I disagree, they didn’t use just a start zone rifle, they combined this rifle model with the old mortar model and I really like it. It is just what an engineer would do, using the parts of the old unviable stationary mortar and a rifle to tinker a new mobile mortar. This cannon wouldn’t fit for this theme.

Scarlet.. look at her stuff, look at the citadel, tanks, airships, siege weapons, watchwork guards, charrcopters, heck even golems and other asura shenanigans even if they are technically more magic then anything. I mean seriosly.. if i would be an engineer for real in this universe where i stand on the frontline to fight friggin dragons id take sure my equipment is TOP notch and up to par with the magical spells and armament or just the physical skills other classes bring to battle…and especially a frigging mobile siege weapon should well kitten look like one…not like a lvl 5 rifle. Im personally fed up with always (visually) looking like the weakest link in the chain and i very well hope that the devs keep their word and the current models are indeed just placeholders…Well, if I were an engineer in this universe and had to fight a dragon, I wouldn’t care about the design of my weapon. I would care to make sure it works as it is supposed to be and it does.
There is a difference between functional looking and plain bad looking imo man. The mortar’s current 3d model does not even got a _hole in the barrel, its just a black painted spot, its also pretty pathetic looking for a siege weapon. Imo something like that mokittenesign would be perfect for a grenade kit visual but not something that shoots siege ammo. Make that thing scarlet’s kiss sized and give it good textures then it should be fitting
