Why, do hot dogs come 10 to a package while the buns come in packages of 8?
And as others have pointed out, it’s better off to buy gems and convert them to gold and then use the gold to buy the skin you want. The chances of getting tickets and scraps of tickets are too low and not guaranteed.

Bring up WinAuth. There is a gear in the lower right, click on it. Select export and follow the instructions there which will dump out a plain text file with the game code in a format that is compatible for import with Google’s authenticator. Took me 2 seconds to find that.

Who the heck buys a game simply because of what version of Dx it supports? Gamers have gotten too brainwashed into thinking graphics and photo realism is more important than actual game play or enjoyment.

They tell you in no uncertain terms to write the code down and that it is important. The fault is completely on your shoulders.
I just set mine up this evening and I have it recorded in 4 different places including a small notebook I have by my PC just for codes and passwords like that in case both my drive and backup fails.

Whelp, set up an authenticator on my tablet and home PC. Hope that’s good enough once I set up my folk’s system on my trusted list.
And as for switching to a more “modern” phone plan, they all require you to sign up for a data plan which is sort of pointless with a basic flip phone, and more expensive overall than the plan I’m grandfathered in.

My issue is simple. I’m charged for every text message I receive. Yes, I do not have a phone plan that has unlimited text because I don’t and neither do any of my friends. It’s a generational thing, I’m in my 50s. I also do not freely distribute my home or mobile phone number in RL and especially online.

As I understand a quick read on AO, it seems to just be a more accurate way of doing contrast in lighting and soft shadows?
AO simply simulates the darkening caused by objects blocking ambient, indirect lighting. The effect is usually quite subtle which always surprises me when people clamor for it.

Rare prices are related, those above level 68, to ectos. If the ecto supply goes up, prices drop and the salvage value of these rares drop. It’s one of the factors that influences the price of rares.

The notable line from the description is
“The role is about API design that bridges gameplay needs and low-level graphics libraries, and exposes functionality at the appropriate level of abstraction for multiple kinds of game systems.”
Game systems does NOT mean game platforms. Chat is a game system. UI overlay is a game system. The renderer is a game system. They are looking for someone who can help develop a better game engine, at least one that could handle additional graphic APIs.
“Expert knowledge of current-gen graphics APIs (DirectX 9/10/11/OpenGL 4.X and DirectX12/Metal/Vulkan).”

I decided to perform the experiment and purchase a mining pick. So far my impression is that the suspicions regarding convenience are confirmed: Even if it seems like a trivial task it’s definitely cumbersome to transfer it between alts when you’re switching characters.
Also, I noticed there was a mining pick that yielded extra materials. This seemed weird considering there are no axes or sickles with comparable functionality. It also seemed strange to introduce the item given that many people would be stuck with a “lesser” item that doesn’t harvest anything unique. In looking around at old posts it seems many were in agreement with this when it was introduced (I took a long break), but I did not stumble over any response as to whether old tools will be updated with extra material options, or if new axes or sickles will be introduced with special features. In the latter case I presume the population might feel bitter.
Does any of you know if a response was ever given to this? Given the sentiments already put in this thread, I’m more reluctant to complete an infinite set beyond the mining pick.
The Watchwork pick was, I think the third unlimited mining pick that came out during Chapter 13 of the first Living World story. I believe the chance to drop watchwork sprockets was an attempt to provide a source of spockets as watchwork creatures were slowly being phased out. But there was an uproar over a gem store item providing scarce materials with cries of “pay to win”. I think because of that ANet backed down from any other plan for other gem store gathering tools doing the same. But they weren’t going to change the item because that would create a return situation that they didn’t want to deal with. But since it’s part of a themed set, they couldn’t pull it forever.
I think what they did during the Dragon Festival which was to drop charged tools that could drop snowflakes. Of course the event itself dropped a metric ton of snowflakes which simply made the lower tiers virtually worthless and therefore the additional snowflakes dropped by these tools worthless as well. They need a new snowflake recipe or a trading event to drain the excessive supply.

Salvaging items is different from opening containers, that’s all I was getting at.
RIP City of Heroes
The main reason is to get linin scrap from salvaged light armor.
But that doesn’t work does it? The salvage is based on the level of the item, not the level on the salvager I thought.

While I imagine there will be more balance changes I believe the structure of three standard trait lines or 2 standard and 1 specialization will be with us for a long while. It allows ANet to extend professions without the need to design a new one from scratch by making a variation on the existing 8 soon to be 9.
RIP City of Heroes
You have 10 possible combinations of 3 trait lines but each trait line has 27 combinations of adept/master/grandmaster traits, you choose from 1 of 3 in each category per trait line.
The expansion will add another trait line to the five for specialization which alters your profession extensively with added weapon and other skills. You can have only one specialization trait line but the “plan” is additional specializations will be added in the future for each profession. This yields an additional 10 combination of trait lines for each specialization.
RIP City of Heroes
1) I think the default answer you will see is Warrior because hitting things with a sharp or blunt object is rather straightforward. And you don’t have to worry about pet mechanics.
2) Level up. I may be wrong but I believe the expansion is level 80 territory and I’m unsure if you’ll be leveled up there.
3) There’s no penalty. You can only rep one guild at a time and therefore only get bonuses from that guild. But a lot of players have set up personal guilds to get more private storage and I could imagine belonging to several guilds with each specializing in an aspect of the game experience like a WvW/PvP guild or a Dungeon/Fractal guild.
4) The game downscales your HP and stats for a level 5 event but rewards and XP are based on your actual level. There are exceptions if the reward, like from a renown heart are based on the level of the event.
Tips? Read the sticky posts on this board. Sell on the Trading Post rather than NPC vendors in most cases. Explore. The PvE portion of the game is designed to be extremely co-op, you aren’t punishing players by helping them. Everyone gets the same XP and loot rolls as long as you do some threshold of damage. Nearly all activities grant some XP from mat gathering to rezing fallen players or NPCs to visiting activating waypoints and visiting POIs and Vistas. Oh and you do get more XP from critters who have lasted a while since spawning so owns off the beaten path will grant you bonus XP, sometimes a lot.
Learn to dodge, it’s the number one, two and three survival mechanic in the game. Most skills can be used on the move so keep moving. This isn’t a game where you can stand still, face tank and rely only on your armor and hit points to keep you upright.
And don’t rush to 80. Since all events are valid no matter what level you are there isn’t anything really special currently that only a level 80 can do. It’s a very pretty world so spend time exploring it and enjoying the sights.

Where did they say bi-weekly? “Couple of” definition is more than one but a small number.
Fixed that for you. Yep, that’s the definition. However, there’s also the definition of couple, which is: two items of the same kind; a pair. I’d be willing to bet that most people don’t look up “couple of” when they read “couple of weeks.” I’d bet ANet staff didn’t look it up either.
Wrong.

If he meant two weeks he would have said two weeks. He realized he can’t promise that so he used “a couple of” as it would be less upsetting than saying the more realistic “monthly” or “every month or so”.

Both the, “couple of weeks,” and the, “intention,” give them some wiggle room. Hopefully updates on those intentions are in the works.

So what was a statement of intent of releasing multiple balance patches until HoT ships gets “translated” to a promise of balance patches every two weeks.
And players wonder why ANet prefers to say nothing. Because It’s darn tough to misinterpret nothing except then that’s used as an example of the devs not being communicative to us.
Dial it back people.
RIP City of Heroes
@Ayrilana.1396 thank you
the key word people are missing is “intention” 1.a thing intended; an aim or plan:
If a merchant announces to its customers, whose use of their product is affected by recent changes, that they intend to make bi-weekly adjustments in light of those changes, it would be a good idea to also announce when/if they decide to not follow through on those intentions.
“After that our intention is to make balance and bug fix changes to this stuff every couple of weeks leading up to the release of HoT.”
Where did they say bi-weekly? “Couple of” definition is more than two but a small number. This whole kerfuffle is once again players leaving out or misinterpreting meaning of words. Intention does not mean promise and “couple of” most definitely doesn’t mean two.
So we went from “planning on several balance patches between now and HoT’s release” to “promised a balance patch every two week”. Why do people actively misread statements like this?
Also Golem Rush was not for active WvW players but an attempt to attract other players to WvW but letting players have the game’s equivalent of armor cavalry that for this week had zero build costs, double hitpoints and speed as well as change up the game for the regulars. For a week. All it took was tweaking a couple a values and they got a “cheap” event as I imagine that HoT is consuming a sizable portion of the development staff.

So you’re encouraging a moratorium on ANet’s current primary source of income because you hold a grudge that GW2 isn’t exactly like GW in terms of rapid, large expansions.
Technically, Factions and Nightfall ARE NOT expansions. EoTN was the only true expansion for GW1. The other two were fully independent standalone games. That just happened to be linkable to all the others.
I know that but I have a problem with that poster who in other threads insist that ANet would have been making oodles more money if they simply held the line with rapid paid content releases and given up on the evil ways of cash shops. I strongly disagree that the development pace of GW could be maintained with an open world MMO like GW2 VS the hub/instance structure of GW.

38k quartz vanished in 10 minutes Tuesday around 6p EDT and another 25k vanished in 10 minutes some 9 hours later. It wasn’t long afterward that the price shot up to 9s each, at least until supply recovered that 25k some 9 hours later. By then there were bids high enough to hold the sell price above 5s.

So I don’t run into players who need their ego stroked by “schooling” players in PvP. PvP/WvW is fun when neither group takes it overly seriously but there are enough players out there who take it way, way too seriously.
That’s not an issue in PvE. In PvE we are just rowdy adventurers who fight the good fight, saving NPCs for a thanks and maybe some loot.

- They said they would do a patch every two weeks to adjust balance in light of the huge balance patch. Have they? Nope. Have they even mentioned anything about it? Nope.

It’s not the community in general, it’s just already disgruntle players with grudges against the company/devs. They are exceptionally bored at the moment so any little thing sets them off on a rant. Just remember those who post on the forums are a tiny portion of the player base and it’s human nature that it’s easier to complain than praise.
RIP City of Heroes
It’s simple, Anet making money with gems means they will try to get you to buy gems. ?That results them putting the most fun items (items people like) in the cash-shop, or behind a gold-grind (as you can buy gold with gems). So for the game it’s not good. Playing directly for an item (other than grinding gold) is almost not possible for most items in GW2. While personally I think it’s one of the most fun game-elements of an MMO.
That also means you can’t say you support the game by buying gems, imho you hurt the game by buying gems.
You want to support the game, buy the game. Many people complained about a €50,- price, but for a B2P game (what GW2 has not behaved like the last two years) it’s a normal price and I rather have to pay €50,- for an expansion every year then have items locked in a cash-shop. But maybe with HoT Anet wants to turn back to B2P again, as that justifies the €50,- and also Anet must have seen that the Expansion is already doing more for the game then the LS did.
So you’re encouraging a moratorium on ANet’s current primary source of income because you hold a grudge that GW2 isn’t exactly like GW in terms of rapid, large expansions. So you rather see the game fail and the company close up shop than suffer with a gem shop and 2 to 4 year expansion cycles?
Because that’s what you are saying. “Don’t buy gems because that just encourages them to maintain their blasphemous (to GW) ways. We need to punish them financially to force them to return to the true faith of similar size paid content releases every 6-12 months.” And while we’re at it lets force them to reverse all of their misguided ways like trying to simplify the game with fewer skills and traits.
Just let it go …
RIP City of Heroes
Upgrade from what you have for other games, not this one as you have a pretty top notch gaming system there.
Be aware in six months or less Skylake CPUs will by out in quantity and that’s a shift from socket, chipset and RAM type.
RIP City of Heroes
I’ve seen this tack used several times as “suggestions” here.
“Hey ANet, allow us to do this thing that goes against your philosophy because you can make money.” And that’s usually done as a push back because someone got upset that some sweet skin appears in the gem shop or they don’t like the reasons behind the cycle of item removal and return or even the price of the expansion. So the push back to “ANet isn’t a charity but a business” with “ANet, yet us do this game breaking thing, there’s money.”
RIP City of Heroes
They said they would do balance patch every 2 weeks right after specialization changes.. A patch should be yesterday. How i can take them serious at this point?
oh did not know about that, maybe the balancing just isnt ready to release yet? you cant force it.
Well as I said I don’t think that’s true but a rumor started with hope it’ll get repeated enough that people like you would assume it’s true and possibly join them in bad mouthing the company. One of the oldest tactics to sway public opinion.
RIP City of Heroes
This is a policy, explained in the links that JT provided, and in the quote that AP added to this thread.
This is not a matter to take to support, because unless you meet the very narrow requirements (read the threads for those details) your display name will not be changed. By creating tickets to ask for services not offered, or to protest policy, you slow service for others.
I will take the suggestion to offer display name changes to the team, but at this time and for the foreseeable future, that is not a service that will be offered. If it is offered, we will make you aware of it.
Thanks for understanding.
Hi Gaile,
I see this as a business opportunity for the company. I hear you that it takes some time to do so you could charge for the service to match the labour cost + margin. I know people who would happily pay $35 to have this done. $ 25 an hour to pay your customer service rep, I see a profit there
And when will players learn that it’s not all about profits. What you are suggesting is essentially a bribe to ANet to allow those with spare cash to escape any bad rep their previous name acquired. I’m all for ANet sticking to their guns on this subject.
For those who are unhappy with a name that they chose themselves (or are now stuck with an anagram of their name) … you chose poorly.

Well it’s Wednesday now so they missed Tuesday which it the OPs point.
Now I didn’t hear they would release a balance patch every two weeks. That sounds more like an excuse that players with a grudge use so others think their complaints are warranted.

Aion and Lineage II numbers are small in NA and NCSOFT decide that the EU wasn’t worth running the servers themselves and provide support so they licensed the games to 3rd parties and merely collect a royalty. And then there’s WildStar.
The last reported quarter GW2 was 77.8% of NA/EU income and WildStar with 10.1%. That meant AION and L2 in NA (and what GW income that is still being generated) had an awesome 12.1% of income between them. So the bulk of any NA (sorry EU) NCSOFT event would pretty much be a GW2 event.

The first version of RealPlayer was introduced in April 1995 as “RealAudio Player” and was one of the first media players capable of streaming media over the Internet. Then, version 4.01 of RealPlayer was included as a selectable Internet tool in Windows 98’s installation package
Content has overtaken capacity now.
Ha! RealPlayer? Yeah, 192×144 15fps streams at 28.8/33.6 Kb/ss dial-up speeds could really clog a network backbone. Oh those halcyon days rich content of Geocities, CompuServe and AOL. First it’s a gold sink to maintain some control over the growth of they money supply which helps slow inflation due to players having more and more money. It only costs you 250 g to post a 5K g item for sale but I can understand being annoyed if you get a fortuitous drop and not having the coin to sell it for it’s going rate. There is only one item on the TP that goes for 5K so I think you are overpricing whatever you are trying to sell.

So I’ve been doing it wrong all along…
I just rejoined GW2 last week or two after not having played since launch (for a couple weeks) and am enjoying the game much more this time around. I took the time to read the tips for new player forums, player to player advice, etc – and the advice I saw in those posts were to decon EVERYTHING. Is that not the best thing to do? I’m better off selling greens & blues on the TP?
Thanks for any input.
Decon? Oh salvage. Yes that’s another option. It doesn’t guarantee more coin Vs the TP as much as it’s a simply way to deal with loot out in the field because it does take a bit longer to check every item to see if there’s an immediate buyer for it on the TP.
I had a friend (he just started playing in earnest) recently ask me why someone would buy a trophy, metal scrap, for 2s 60c and I pointed out it that the wiki says it could be salvaged into 1-3 iron/gold/silver ore and that buyer was playing the odds that when they salvage enough of them they would end up ahead. My friend didn’t even notice it was salvageable.
