You’re not alone… I did the same dang thing lol. That was why I began my reply with heh heh.
Nope, have not found it, but I have been looking too. Till then I will keep my pirate hat.
Heh heh… go to where the hylek dude turns you into a pig. There are some hylek in the water that guard a tunnel. Swim down, through, and up the tunnel to find their village hidden in a cave within that island.
Try places like Lornar’s Pass… I believe i got some there off some elementals in the SE side of the map.
I would like to know as well. I am a leatherworker ankittenep seeing in the guides online that I can make “satchels of leather armor”.
It is part of the “Commando” medium armor set. I found it in BWE 1 as well, but have not been able to find it on live.
This link below shows what the full set looks like, and judging from where they placed it, sounds like it is a loot drop. I could be wrong though.
I play both, and I enjoy both. I consider my main my engineer though, but my ranger is leveling fast as well.
Both very fun professions.
Dim, rifle will be viable at all levels, as long as you keep upgrading to better rifles (I suggest taking huntsman as one of your crafting professions and make your own as you level every 5 levels).
I play an engineer as my main, and have not had any issues with our choices. As someone above said, yes our choices are limited, but they are invaluable in the right hands. Pistol / Shield in particular should not be sold short, since it has that wicked little AOE knockback.
It sounds like you have set on warrior, which I know you will enjoy. It really comes down to personal preference, but I have to say that engi and ranger have made me the happiest since I started playing in headstart.
If you do go engi, definitely learn your utilities. Elixir gun comes in handy for many many things (for example condition removal for your party mid fight); and of course grenades were mentioned earlier as a serious DPS based AOE attack. Bombs and the Tool kit are great if you want pseudo melee options. (Bombs can only be dropped where your character is, not tossed like grenades, so they are a great surprise for someone in your face).
And of course flamethrower… mmmmmmm flamethrower…
Whichever path you choose, welcome to Tyria, and I hope you enjoy it here!

The one you want is the Whispers rifle. It is my weapon of choice. Originally it was a random drop in the world but shortly into the life of the game they put it as an Order of Whispers only vendor item. IIRC it cost me about 3+ gold for it. You have to be level 80 to use it, and it is only considered a rare, not an exotic.
Still, coolest rifle in the game by far. I never leave home without it.
Player housing…… so I have a reason to go back to my home instance.
Oh yeah, and world peace.
Try it right now. This is usually our low time, as people are gone to work and school.
PvP tutorial or lobby area?
As the poster above said, yes there are two types of stones… the regular stones are yellow. The ones for level 80 (which of course will allow you to keep the look of something lvl 40 with the stats of something level 80) are white.
As you go through your personal story you will get some, but yeah the easiest way to get them is through the gem store. Black Lion chests are finicky…
Maybe you picked up some environmental weapons somewhere? (Only thing that comes to mind is the dredge sonic rifle in Bloodtide Coast)
Maybe the conjured greatsword counts as a sword?
Other than that… not sure.
I am usually online till about 1AM or 2AM EST. I notice the server clears out close to that timeframe. (Yes I am on Tarnished Coast). When you do get over here, welcome aboard! You’ll like it here.
I have been wondering this myself, as a leatherworker wanting to make full armor sets. Though the map says some vendors sell recipes, when I examine their wares, they have the same 3 or 4 food items for karma… nothing more.
As far as I know, if you are on an American server, your server time is Pacific. There are no “east coast servers”. All American servers are in the same place. European servers are also centrally located. I don’t know if their server time is set to Pacific or GMT though.
Don’t forget OP that since there are 5 races, there are 5 starting areas. Do not be afraid to visit other parts of the world since the content will scale you down to where it is not a cakewalk, but you get 5 times the xp by time you get back to your personal story.
I do that regularly with my characters and I often outlevel my story so much that I have to take an hour to JUST do story parts back to back to back.
This game rewards the explorer in you, and that in turn helps you grow.
I missed the final boss fight on account of this pesky birthday dinner and James bond movie I HAD to see… I was there in spirit though, because we had lobster tails stuffed with crab and shrimp! HAH!
I logged in afterwards and got this picture.
Cancel my last post… now for some reason it is working properly! I guess it just wanted a night off?
Well the bluescreens stopped, now I have where it either goes past password, then crashes on launch (with the crash window), or it does not go past the first download screen at all (pre password).
Either way, it is not letting me play :-(
First I was getting blue screen of death crashes (happened twice back to back in the last hour), now when I log in it crashes the “normal” way and gives me this stuff.

Need help!
The ONLY things I have updated today were windows (the auto updater, which is also popping up right now as I type this), and my nvidia drivers.
No black screen here but BLUE screen of death instead. Happened twice in a row tonight. I could play fine last night. Going to check my nvidia drivers next. I too have the 9600gt.
Yeah I have been all over the world, I have yet to find another version of the engineer pack. It looks like if you did not pick it, you may be without it. I still have mine, and after the halloween events, I upgraded it to take the stats of the flaming book we got (who wants to run around with a book on fire).
I run a norn engineer for my main. I do not feel it is at odds with the culture, and actually I have run into a lot of other norn engineers. (By the way, hidden pistol is not a racial skill, it is a skill you get because you are using rifle turret).
It’s really up to your choice OP, whichever race you “connect” with. There is certainly nothing wrong with making an engineer of any race, as they all have them, in their lore or even in the world as you travel.
Btw, supply drop is not useless. Especially if you add the trait point where you get tons of extra medpacks and turrets. It is a lifesaver!
Their forum may be empty, but do they have any info on there about what server they are located on? Once you know where to go it is just a matter of time to wait for him to log in. Use the time to get to know your skills (Usually the first few hours are spent gaining new skills anyway).
Well, you could wait till he is awake and ask him? Shoot him an email.
I’ve actually started saying “I’m the master of life” at work. People just look at me and shake their heads…
Your local time has adjusted to daylight saving time. As the poster above noted, server time remains the same, but I think most people like to put their in game clocks on their own local time.
Here’s mine…
You know it’s hard out here for a |P || |V| |P,
When he’s trying to get the money for the rent…
When the Cadillac and gas money’s spent…
Got a whole lot of kittens jumping ship.
What?
I’m the purple norn baby! I’m Silky™ smoooooth.
All you sucker MCs can call me Sire.
I told someone if my size bothers you, ZOOM OUT.
Lol.
42 and not going anywhere. Tyria is my home!
Yeah, without seeing a screenshot of it, we are all stabbing at the dark here. The next time you see one, please take a picture then upload it here for us to see, and I am sure someone will be able to identify it quickly.
f/u = forward / up… there are multiple branches to an exploratory dungeon… so they mean at the first branch the group has decided to go forward (as opposed to left or right), and the second branch they decided to go up.
Tarnished Coast is by and large a roleplaying server (unofficially), so if you want to find a group your best bet is to hang out where the RPers do… (pick a tavern, any tavern)
I have not seen any queues since I have been there, and I started headstart on this server. Dungeon groups are also relatively easy to come by. The longest I ever had to wait for a group was like 10 minutes, and they came to ME.
As a community, it is one of the best in the game, people are friendly and ready to help. As for WvW, well if we can get enough people interested in roleplaying there, we might have more of a presence. As it is now, I always see us lower on the list… which I assume is because most folks hang out in the regular world, rather than wvw.
As far as servers go though, I would not trade this bunch for anything. I love Tarnished Coast. No matter where I go, I can always find someone to pve with, and tell stories after our fun at the nearest bar.
As a person who does not like PvP, I have to admit… I always have a blast in WvWvW. The last time I was in there I claimed a keep for my guild and along with random people, we defended it for about 6 hours from all manners of assaults.
I have no problems going into WvWvW for exploration, or just a change of scenery. (Plus the harvestables cannot be beat). If I have to beat someone down in the process, I can get over it and get the job done. Engineers never travel without their bag of tricks.
Weapons scale according to race. No matter what size your norn is, the shield is going to be the same size, when compared to say… an asura.
I actually made my sylvari a guardian. My norns are engineer (my main), and thief.
Yeah there are a couple of hats I have not seen in a while (since beta weekend 1).
That was one of them, and the other is in the attachment below. I really really loved the hat below, and I am not sure why it is no longer there. The hat you get in the dungeons is a different style of hat with a feather in it. Not a bad hat at all, but it’s like the ONLY hat design you get. No variety :-(
Perhaps the devs moved it to a vendor like they did my whisperer rifle.
Dear Devs, can we have the cool hats back please, thanks!
By default the armor skins have shininess built into them. The dyes of course change the color, but if you were wearing that suit of armor that you posted a picture of, no matter what color you make it, it will look shiny.
My guardian has a couple pieces of early crafted armor that has that shine on it, though I have colored it an orange color.
If you are not seeing shininess, you may wanna check your graphical settings, since it should be automatic.
The only thing I remember that comes out of the wall so to speak, is Duke Barradin, in the charr tutorial. I have not seen the picture you are referring to.
Unless you mean the Iron Forge man, who is in the Sorrow’s Furnace dungeon (it’s definitely red in there.)
Now aren’t you glad there is no subscription model? No feeling “forced” to play because you are paying $15.00 a month?
I believe that is the idea here… ArenaNet expects that people will get bored and wander off, just as they do with other games out there. They also expect that when new content becomes available, those people will come rolling back in. That’s the beauty of it… It is your game. You bought it, you got a lifetime membership so to speak, and can play it whenever the mood strikes you.
Guild Wars 1 went through the same ebb and flow each time they added new content, and especially expansions. I suspect the same will happen here.
Want another example, look at what is going on over in Blizz-land. A few months of pandas and they’ll be back.
I, for one, intend on being here the whole time. I have way too much stuff to accomplish in Tyria… and I am taking my own sweet time to do it. If I need a breather, I will take a breather, but I do not have to worry about my “sub” running out. Neither do you.
Play it whenever you feel like.
I have yet to find anything that confirms a genetic relation between the two races, but there is certainly a LOT of speculatory evidence around.
Nevertheless, I love the Kodan. They can fight alongside this norn any day.
Fansy the Famous Bard, anyone?
YES! I was just thinking that… Those of us who remember EQ, remember Fansy… No one did it better! It makes me wonder if Fansy is here, and if he is a mesmer this time around?
But yeah, like the OP said, training = bad… try to avoid it please.
(ubiquitous golf clap)
Just kidding, ANet knows I love them… I am still waiting for my job application for the position of janitor… as long as it comes with access to the game on their uber super mega computers and a wide theater sized screen (don’t forget the surround sound).
What??
SOMEONE has to “test” the game out on that kind of setup to ensure it will run well on those kinds of setups… plus I push the broom for free afterwards.
Yes that is working as intended. Only items that can conceivably be shared with other guild members can be placed in there. It’s a good storage space for resources mainly in my guild.
With any luck, once expansion time comes around we may find our options to include Tengu and dare I say, Kodan?
Meh, I don’t like the term “thief”… I prefer the term “treasure hunter”. ;-)
It seemed like a good idea at the time?
Nah nah… seriously… I have had a love affair with the norn since I met Jora in GW1.
I hate to say it, but aesthetically I am not pleased with any of our racial attire. I am opting instead to go with the Order Of Whispers look (combined with the beetletun medium coat and the pirate hat). On my engineer, previewing the wolf face makes me look odd, especially since in my bio I chose bear as my totem.
Of course I also realize this is a highly subjective matter, and as such… cannot really advocate changing/removing it from the vendor, when I simply have the option of NOT wearing it.
